It is what it is -- a local bar/burger joint - and it does it very, very well. Went there for lunch today. The remodel is great. There are tables outside and it is really bright inside. But, they did retain the "no menu" policy and you have to be able to read the sign on the wall to order. The prices are really reasonable. Burger, fries and drink are about $7. There were three of us and we all ordered the mock turtle soup. It was the real deal. Good stuff! Two of us ordered the burgers. Mine was just perfect - juicy, well done, cheese, big onion, tomato and lettuce. I also got the fries. They were pretty good, too. Not great, but good. The other one ordered "the best Reuben I've had in years". Here's the complaint. The have a new, big, beautiful parking lot. Unfortunately, they also have a landscape feature that makes it difficult for the two rows closest to the restaurant to exit. And, it is not helped by the fact that people are parking in the driveway. I was able to exit only because a space opened up to get to the back of the lot. I lucked out. Otherwise, I'd probably still be there waiting to exit. Will I go back? Definitely. Will I drive? Probably not.

Relatively a new resident of Pleasant Ridge, during my food ventures in the neighborhood I gave Quatman Cafe a try. I had been craving a good burger for a while and what better night to go to Quatman's than on a Thursday - Burger night! A Burger, fries, and drink for about $7.. and man, did it hit the spot! The burger was flavorful, cooked well, and was juicy, without all of the grease. It was traditionally dressed with fresh, lettuce, onion, and tomato with plenty of pickles on the side. The fries were ok, nothing special.. but were good enough to compliment the burger well. I also had the mock turtle soup (first time I ever had it) and it was delicious! Flavorful with a pleasant tart bite to it. I am so happy that I live so close to this place and will make this my go-to for when I'm next craving a classic burger. The staff were also super friendly and treat you just like family.

I had a good feeling about this place. It was as cheap as fast food but in a much nicer environment. They have a lot of tvs and would be a great place to watch Xavier basketball. The options are pretty simple - chicken sandwich, cheeseburger, etc. Their daily specials were really on spot. I got a cheeseburger, fries, and drink for $6.58! The refills are not free but the price is great. The service was fast. The portions were large, and the renovation was really welcoming.

Classic fun place to grab a burger and a beer. Old school style (even though they did just move to a new location with a larger and swankier dining area), they still have the bowling alley-esque menu board and coolers of soda and beers. A simple, fun place to grab a great burger and classic crinkle cut fries for a great price.

Oh no. Quatman's, you went and got all famous on me! What used to be the dingiest dive bar in town (no windows) and burgs served on greasy paper plates has now transformed to a hip spot for families and the lot. I miss the charm of the old Quatman's and I am sad to say that my boyfriend will never no the true experience of what used to be. It's stale. And still resembles a church mess hall but with a fresh coat of paint, a completely new bar, tv's, chairs etc. I guess I can't be *too* upset that they are moving up in the world, but rather disappointed that they eliminated the historic character of the place entirely. But even with all the new upgrades (parking lot & even an outdoor patio) the true meaning of a thriving local business rings true. As we sat there eating our delicious burgers I almost started crying and I said to my boyfriend, "this is where I want to spend my money, right here." It was a beautiful thing to see this family maneuver around the dining room floor. With a line out the door, even the most panicked servers greeted you with a smile and a "Hang on a sec, hun. We're werkin' our tails off to get you seated." At one point a lady said anxiously: "Have you been here before?" We said, "Oh, yes." She replied with a huge grin in the middle of the crazed dining room, "Well then you know Quatmans!" And that I do. This is a place where no one judges. Where all walks of life congregate. Whether you're grabbing a pitcher after a softball game, or heading to a gala you are treated like family. This is a place where you can get a damn good burger, fries, and a HUDY for $7.04. Don't come here expecting the world or you will be disappointed. It's a simple burger done right with a humble atmosphere and some of the friendliest service you will ever encounter. Next time you're headed to the drive thru, take a second to mosey on over to Quatman's. For the same price you can experience something really special.

Love their new renovation! I was so glad to see a ton of parking available, and a lot of people using the patio on a Saturday night. They kept the same system for ordering- one big menu on the wall to select from and you pay when you're ready to leave. Great basic burger and fries that always remind me of McDonald's (just need a little extra salt). The bottom line: Great Cincinnati hole in the wall, always a good burger and fries for a low price- now an even better environment to enjoy them in.

I unfortunately never had the oppurtunity to go to the original Quatman Cafe right next door which I understand was the hole in the wall to rule all hole in the wall's. We only discovered the new space after making a trip for lunch on a Saturday and coming to the realization that the restaurant had moved. The new space is really nice, a far cry from the original. It's open, airy, and spacious. We ran into a problem immediately though. There is no waiting area, and no waiting list. So, if you want a table you are going to have wait inside standing on top of other tables. And it got crowded, so a lot of people were just meandering around the restaurant standing next to seated tables. The second problem is there are two entrances and no hostess, so the waiters never know who was there first and who is waiting on what, etc. etc. BUT. Once you get seated all that hassle is forgotten and you are rushed into a world that seems more like the old school Quatman Cafe. That is, the dirt cheap food, delicious burgers, and appropriate paper plates. Yes, paper plates adds to this experience. The burgers are just the kind I like. No frills. Burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese. That's it. And it is glorious. There is something to be said about a simple burger. My party and I opted for the special which was the burger, fries and a PBR for I wanna say $6. Don't hold me on that. Regardless, it's no more than $8, and no less than $5. I know, I'm really helping you out here but you get the point. This new Quatman seems more like a hang out spot compared to Quatman Sr. The bar area is large, there are several TV's on the walls, and they have beer on tap with specials. By the way, you don't get a check at the end of the meal. It's your responsibility to go up to the bar and tell them what you had afterwards. Doesn't seem to be the best way to do it, but it's their thing and they own it, I guess. Regardless of the downfalls of this place, the positives that I was looking for were there. Which was a damn good burger, for a damn good price. I will be back Quatman, I will be back.

I love Quatman Cafe. It's a great little neighborhood spot with excellent food and prices. They recently remodeled, and now have a nice bar inside and a great patio outside. Service is friendly, albeit a bit on the slow side when they're busy. But no matter... their burgers are worth waiting for. Nothing fancy, just delicious. Get a Coke, burger and fries... and you're good to go!

Love that Quatman's is very low key - don't expect anything fancy here. But, what you CAN expect is one of the best burgers (1/2 pound, too!) that you'll ever have in your life. Basic cheeseburger, just done to absolute juicy perfection. (and, at an amazing price) The fries are just average but, they're forgiven because of how good the burgers are!

Quatman's got a major update. The space is very nice, but almost too nice for this dive burger joint. The burgers were delicious and the piece you can't bear. I would recommend ordering the turtle soup, which is like chili but more delish!

I was driving from Nashville to Cleveland all by myself and nearly fell asleep at the wheel. I decided to stop near Cincinnati for a bite to eat. My boyfriend suggested stopping at Quatman Cafe and told me that it was a divey spot that has been around for years and serve great burgers on paper plates. The paper plates intrigued me enough and I wanted to know if these burgers were really THAT good. Sat down at the bar (the bar stools have seen better days, however I feel that it adds to the divey charm). They had a couple drafts on tap, but I was driving so I got an iced tea instead. I asked for a menu and the bartender pointed to a sign far off in the distance. I knew what I was going to order, but I wanted to see what they had to offer....they don't offer much, just a few specialties....like the burger. After placing my order I noticed that everyone around me were also eating a burger....must be pretty good! I got my burger really quickly and I wasn't disappointed, they served it on a paper plate and not the flimsy cheap kind either. This one had some sturdiness to it. The burger looked like your average burger, something you'd make at home. However, after the first bite I understood what my boyfriend was telling me. The beef patty that they use tasted like farm fresh ground beef. I would know, my friend Jill brings back fresh ground beef from her dad's own farm every now and then and it tasted similar to the Quatman Café burgers. If you are a pickle fan you will appreciate the pickles that come on the burger. The fries that came with burger were also really good and plentiful. The cost was not bad either, I believe it was $7.99. By the way, the tshirts they sell are really cute, I picked up two of them as souvenirs

Absolutely amazing burgers! Beer was cheap and so was the food. This is definitely one of the best burgers in Cincinnati

This cafe was on my YELP! bucket list of places to eat in Cincinnati this year.I'm sorry folks - Quatman Cafe moved next door to a new physical location. I may be reviewing this during their move and which explains the poor experience today. We arrived later at lunch time and the majority of the tables were not cleaned. Our choice was to sit at a table and wait for 1 of 2 waitresses to come and clear the table. When our waitress finally came over, she cleared the table by brushing her hands over the table surface. She immediately asked what we wanted and we told her we did not have any menus. Then she told us that everyone gets the Cheeseburgers. Our food came out on paper plates and with plastic forks. The fries were bland and needed salt. The cheeseburgers were OK and I've definitely experienced better. For kids - no kids meals. My 4 year old ate the adult portion chicken fingers and drank water from a beer glass. I suggest Quatman Cafe is an established bar for the locals. I did not understand the aurora of the food. The place is not great for kids. The presentation was not good. The taste of the food, OK.

I grew up on Quatman burgers. Tonight's burger was a poor showing. I waited 20-25minutes for the burger to go and it was just mediocre. Tiny little onion and tiny little tomato.

If you're looking for great neighborhood dive bar with cold beer, juicy cheeseburger and fries look no further than Quatman's in Norwood. Quatrain features old local favorites on draft Hudy, Christian Moerlein plus they're now serving Rhinegeist cans. Just pony up to the bar or seat yourself at one of the checkerboard covered tables, their friendly & seasoned staff are ready to take care of you. Where can you have a great burger, fries & drink for $7.50? At Quatman's you can! Plus they have Hellman's mayo, the only mayo for my burger. Stop by anytime lunch or dinner and enjoy a Norwood classic!

A buddy of mine was in town and he asked if I had heard of this place. I consider myself very in touch with the Cincinnati food landscape and was shocked to tell him I had never been here. Tucked away, this Inconspicuous building was at capacity when we popped in for lunch. Everybody was laid back, talking at their tables or watching golf on TV. I am not sure if the patrons knew one another, or if the atmosphere of the place just gave off that vibe that you could talk to your neighbor whether you knew them or not. The menu is short, and posted on the wall behind the bar. Since I was told they are known for their burgers, my mind was made up before I went in that I was going to have a burger. I was not disappointed! The burger was substantial in size, cooked to perfection, and paired with crispy french fries. I would expect to write about their seasoning, or special sauce, but there was nothing "special" about this burger, other than to say it was cooked perfectly. Anytime I can enjoy a big burger and fries for less than the cost of fast food is also a bonus.

As a frequent diner at Quatmans since 1985 I have experienced some of the best burgers in the CIncnnati area. Having said that the recent remodel leaves a lot to be desired from a customer experience point of view. Gone is the Dive that had great employees that complimented great burgers. The burgers are still good, but the remodel has created an echo chamber where the only way you can talk to anyone at the table is by having to be louder than the diners sitting at the next table. The newer employees need some Tender Loving Training and follow up to live up to those who proceeded them

I've lived in Norwood for most of my life and only recently have I started eating at Quatmans. I can't believe I waited so long to try it. While it's not the best burger I've ever had, its a damn good one and for the price it's absolutely fantastic. This is a very basic burger, if you're looking for something crazy try Terry's turf club (or gordos in Norwood), but if you're looking for good food, good service, and a great atmosphere at a fair price.... This is your spot.

Although I enjoyed the old Quatman since 1999 with the feeling of old school neighborhood bar, the new Quatman shines through. Their signature cheeseburger (although not grilled on an open fire) will put you in a beef coma for about 4 hours.

This place doesn't do it for me. I have been 3x's now, and nothing really popped out. They have a mediocre hamburger, not sure why some rave about it. I get this place has been around for years, and has a local following, but that doesn't give a license for crappy service. Each time we have visited, they come by the table once when you sit down, and rush you to order drinks and food. After you do that, you have to get up and flag down whoever you can to get another beer or a water for that matter. The burgers are big, but bland, and lack flavor. Seriously, you could go to Kroger and get a lb of ground chuck and do better and be HALF the price! They do have $1.50 PBR's and that is really all they have going for them. Maybe if we were known locals it would be different, who knows. I get it's not a 4 star restaurant, but to have a server stop by once, and never been seen again is bad service. Maybe they should go to counter service only, or maybe that is what it is? I don't know. I do know when we were done eating, we didn't receive a check. We had to walk up to the register and recite everything we had ate and drank. I dunno Quatmans, not sure I will be back.

I always love to seek out new restaurants in the area, and somehow Quatman's flew under my radar. My typical stop for a burger in the part of town is The Gaslight in Pleasant Ridge --- self-proclaimed "home of the 4th best burger in Cincinnati." While the Gaslight makes an OK burger, I have yet to Yelp about them, so draw from that what you will. But on a recent trip down Montgomery road, my trusty Yelp app led me to Quatman's. First off, it was strangely non-divey. It seems that just moved from their original dive bar next door into a brand spankin' new location with a patio! Now I see that some of the patrons of the old location have taken to Yelp to air their grievances. While Charlie may complain that it's become an echo chamber or that the employees have lost a step during the move next door, THIS review of the place isn't tainted by longing for what was. Sorry Charlie. I live in the moment baby! SO what did I get you ask? The server approached our table in the most disarming way and raddled off their menu. Some may complain about their lack of physical menus on the table, but I actually see this as a plus: They know what they do well and encourage you to get it. On this day, like most, the special was the cheeseburger with fries and a drink (you can get a 12 ounce draft as a drink for no additional charge) for $7.50. My friend asked if they had bacon and the server answered back: "we sell good beef." Direct. I like it. When the burgers arrived they were well-appointed with a nice thick beef patty, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion. The generous portion of "McDonald's sized" fries were hot and tasty --better than McD's in my opinion. And the small beer was a nice touch. My only minor complaint was the bun which was nice and dense, but not my preferred bun, but still good. I'm more of a sesame seed bun guy. For $7.50, you really cannot ask for much more and Quatman's may stand as my favorite Cincy burger joint. Bravo guys! Keep up the good work!

As I continue on my search for the best burger in Cincinnati, of course I had to hit up Quatman Cafe. Prior to getting there, I had heard all sorts of wonders about the "perfectness" of the unadulterated burger in this "hole-in-the-wall" "joint". I went on a beautiful day with the bf for a late lunch. It wasn't very crowded, but everyone there was indeed eating the special of the day: cheeseburger, fries, drink for $6.99. I got the special and the burger was fantastic. It's a classic cheeseburger: chesse, onion, tomato, lettuce, pickles. No fancy dressing, no avacado, no bacon, no chipotle, etc. But it was great. I wouldn't say the best in the world, but definitely a top contender for the best quality for the price!! The bf is not a huge fan of burgers, so he got the reuben. It was large enough for him not to complain (he always complains about insufficient meat in the sandwiches, but not here). It was a little too salty for my preference, but reubens often are. Came with a side of potato chips. And he agreed after a bite of my burger that it was indeed a great burger, if you want to get a burger. =P (That's supposed to be a compliment, lol) ----------------------------------- Explanation of my rating system - 5*: Epitome of something, the best I've had, would LOVE to go back 4*: Great food and happy to go back regularly, but not the best of the category 3*: Food is fine. I may spontaneously decide to go there based on convenience. But no need to go back either. 2*: If you insist, I guess I'll come along. I'll find something to eat. But I wouldn't have picked it. 1*: No plans to come back. I'll try to talk companions out of going.

Come to Quatman for a low-key meal. Nestled right off of Montgomery Road in Norwood, it can be easy to miss, but don't let the lack of pizzazz fool you. The food here is delicious! Some of the best burgers in the city, served with only the basics (lettuce, onion, and tomato) and that's all you need. Come on Mondays, Thursdays, or Saturdays and get a cheeseburger, fries and a drink (yes, this includes a beer too) for under $7. Can you really beat that? If you're not a burger person, they've got plenty of other great options too. The fish on Fridays is amazing and their deli sandwiches are so big, you'll have hard time finishing it all in one sitting. Overall, it's a great hole-in-the-wall that never disappoints.

Quatman Cafe is a great straight forward burger joint. Location - located in Norwood as well as Mason Ohio. Parking can be a bit dicey depending on the time you go. Both have lots but when full have to search for street parking. Food - have always gone with the special: cheeseburger (now with lettuce, tomato, onion), lots of fries, and a beer (draft no less!). Portions are generous. Very delicious! Beverages - soda, beer, water. Price - cheap! The special is around 6 bucks, can't beat it! Ambiance - typical diner, the Norwood location has a bit more character than Mason. Lots if tvs to watch whatever sports are going on that day. Service - have never had an issue. Very friendly and attentive. If your looking for a quick burger at a great price in a laid back environment you can't beat Quatman!

Quatman Cafe is a dive. It's been said before, it will be said again. And I'm saying it now. Except all the awesome and simplicity and no-fuss ways of a dive and you'll be on the mark. You know it's a dive from the start. Tucked down a side-street in Norwood, you'll find an old, almost falling down sign hanging above a wooden door. The shades are almost always pulled down on the windows in this place, so opening the door shines in a lot of light. Otherwise, it's dark. Not creepy dark, but dive dark. That dark where you know people like to eat in piece. Quatman is separated into two sections. To your left, the ordering counter to go. To your right, a long wooden bar and tables with classic red and white checkered tablecloths on them. Never been here before? Go to the ordering counter first, since that's where the menu is. Yes, there are no menus given to you when you sit down, since it's a place where people tend to know what they want. I told you, dive. Your basic option of a $5 cheeseburger, with $1.75 more for fries. It comes out on a paper plate and it is hot and juicy and delicious. Nothing fancy, nothing special, just a really well cooked hot awesome burger. Our waiter, a really nice guy, came and took our orders without asking how we'd like the burger cooked. He felt bad and came back 10 minutes later to ask. I just thought this was amusing for some reason. You pay up at the counter when you are done. No fuss, no waiting around. You come in, you eat, you leave. Good service, good food, good divey joint. Enjoy.

Quatman's is my favorite place to get a burger. This isn't a fancy $12 burger joint, in fact you can get their cheeseburger fries and a drink for $6.58 on Monday, Thursday and Saturday as their special. (The drink can be a draft beer!) The trick is to enjoy it for what it is, a good burger without any frills. These burgers come with onion and pickle only, personally I skip on the onion. If you want lettuce and tomato the Mason location will accommodate you but not in Norwood. For the best experience remember a few things 1. Make yourself at home, seat yourself and be friendly with the staff and they'll treat you right. 2. Do not ask for lettuce or tomato on your burger at this location, the burger really doesn't even need it. 3. Come on a burger special day, but know it does get crowded, enjoy a drink at the bar until a table opens up 4. Don't wait for a check, Quatmans trusts you to come up to the register and let them know what you had, you can also buy deli items at the register. I hope you enjoy Quatman's as much as I do

Yes, I gave this place four stars because when it comes to a cheeseburger, fries and a beer this is the place. A simple menu, good at what they do and just a place to come and hangout and grab a bite without the attitude.

Excellent cheap burgers and beer. Was able to enjoy a can of Hudy Delight and Bitburger beers! We got two burgers with fries, 2 beers a piece and even took a 6 pack home! All for $25.00! Can't beat that! Staff was extra friendly and great atmosphere!

There are actually folks who say that Quatman Cafe has the best burger in the Cincinnati area. Those folks are very much wrong, and they're doing a disservice to this little old-school bar and grill by raising expectations like this. Quatman Cafe is a humble place, and its charms are simple and basic and understated. You're going to miss them if you go in looking for some knock-it-out-of-the-park gourmet burger. In short, it's a little bit like Norwood's version of Zip's, minus some bells and whistles. It is a classic neighborhood institution that thankfully makes few concessions to the 21st century, a dim, spartan cafe and barroom with red-and-white checkered tablecloths, a TV over the wooden bar, and some Cincinnati-related wall-hangings. It's one of those all-American artifacts that you hope stays around forever. (Jean L. properly corrects those who would deem the Quatman Cafe a "dive." It is in fact totally family-friendly and apparently clean and even wholesome, for lack of a better word, even if there might be a couple of older guys having lunchtime beers at the bar.) Food came out really fast, and the servers could not have been friendlier or more welcoming. In short, a really pleasant place for a burger and beer. The burgers? They're perfectly edible and filling and all right. They're pretty big, too. Quatman does not cook to order, however, so you'll have to be satisfied with medium-well or well-done, because that's what you'll get. And they come on an ungriddled bun with only a big slice of onion and a little pile of hamburger dill slices. That said, they're still a little juicy and have decent flavor, thank goodness. And by 2013 standards, they are really cheap. As others have noted, Quatman Cafe has its cheeseburger special on Saturdays. For $6.58, you get their big cheeseburger, a mound of shoestring fries, and a soda. You can't beat that with a baseball bat. A tip for newbies in the bar area, like we were: When you're done eating, the server apparently won't bring you a check. Instead, go pay at the cash register, which is sort of hidden in the back of the adjoining room with a meat-and-cheese counter.

4 Stars for Old school ambiance - 3 stars for food. I've been to Quatman's ~3 times. My brother-in-law grew up in Norwood and every time he is in town with my sister we meet up with them and some of his old buddies that he grew up with. As others have noted, this is not the best burger in the city but it is good, like the hamburgers my mom used to make as a a kid. Thick, hand formed and pan fried with good old american cheese. My only gripe is that I wish is was served with lettuce and tomato. As it is the burger was served with onion and pickles. My wife was disappointed with her turkey sandwich and I can't blame her. While there was 2.5 inches of thin sliced turkey it was just turkey, two slices of bread and a 1/4 inc thick piece of american cheese. Again if it was served on toasted bread with shredded lettuce and tomato it would be so much better (maybe it can be had that way) Overall I like this place, it's a cool little corner bar with a grill. As long as you don't set your expectations too high you won't be disappointed. Cheap food, cheap drinks what more do you want? Tip: I'm not sure if it is how things always work here, but you order, they bring your food and then when you want to leave the waitress will ask you what you had. I don't think they write it down and they trust their customers to be honest.

stopped by to satisfy a burger craving, and we left happy. i can definitely understand all the hype, but i'm not ready to deem it the best burger in cinci--yet. +1 for plenty of street parking, even right in front +1 for a non-presumptuous burger/bar atmosphere. we didn't feel out of place even though the place was clearly full of regulars. +0 for a bit of confusion whether we were supposed to seat ourselves or order at the register. if there were signs, we missed them. +1 for great prices. we both had the saturday special, which consisted of a 1/2-ish pound (cheese)burger, fries, and a can of soda. with tax, comes to $7 exactly. not bad. (tip is additional.) +1 for a REALLY GOOD BURGER. lots of meat. maybe a 1/2-pound? +0 for pretty good fries. plain, but still tasty. nothing to call home about. +0 for a bit of confusion whether to wait for our check or to go up to the register to pay. after waiting to watch someone else, it's the latter. +1 for friendly staff. again, not presumptuous at all. on our way home, we seriously debated whether this place is better than five guys. we were divided on the issue. but, to even have that discussion at all says something. have a hankering for a good burger? check it out. you won't be disappointed. you might see us there again.

Great little hole in the wall that keeps it simple. Beers on tap and sandwiches served on paper plates. Service is speedy. there will be a wait if you go during lunch hours. You can't go wrong with the daily cheeseburger special or anyone of their freshly sliced deli sandwiches. I highly recommend a bowl of mock turtle soup, one of the best in Cincy.

The Quatman is currently under a remodel/expansion. It's brighter and cleaner, thus losing some of it's charm. Burger is above average, fries are average, beer is cold and prices are excellent.

I don't know how the burgers were, because the staff wouldn't serve us. No clue why! We sat down, ordered water and soda, and the man... never came back. Served the next table drinks... took their order... brought their food... We were enjoying our company, so it was a while before we realized we were being frozen out. The woman waiting on other tables looked uncomfortable as she avoided looking at us, the man avoided our eyes as we waved, called... and as we stood up and left. It was the most bizarre dining experience I have ever had! We were a very normal group, 3 youth and one adult, dressed normal, acting normal. Totally unbelievable.

At Quatman, you won't get any of the frills or special toppings you choose at other burger joints. It is simply the best burger I have ever eaten.

Waited to be seated for 10 minutes. Staff walked right by us 3 times as if we were invisible. So we walked out. Why bother?

Super cheap dinner! Around 6$ for a burger, fries and a drink. Burger was good.. Not the best I have ever had.. but worth the try!

Best burger in Cincinnati? Seriously? It's pretty good for a plain Jane burger, but I wouldn't go much further than that. The chili was served boiling hot... Literally boiling. I had it for five minutes before my burger came and wasn't able to take more than a couple regrettable bites. The service was okay although she probably should have removed the chili from the bill.

$6.58 can buy you a lot these days. A couple of gallons of gas. A 4 pack of D batteries. A 6 pack of Magnums (that's right ladies). A blowup donut cushion to ease hemorrhoid pain (I heard this from a "friend"). But my favorite way to spend $6.58 is on the cheeseburger special at the Quatman Cafe in the heart of Norwood. The cheeseburger special barely makes its way onto my top 5 Queen City burger list but in the end I had to add it for the value alone. Sure the burger is great but it's only great because of its simplicity. It's a hearty half pound burger that's topped with a slice of American cheese, a sliver of raw onion, and some pickles on the side. It's served with shoestring fries and a drink all for $7 after tax. You really can't beat it for the price. I'm pretty sure I've spent seven bucks on a combo meal at Burger King and it wasn't half this good. A couple things to keep in mind if you go here. This is a bar in the middle of Norwood (Norwood means slummy in Cincinnatian). The crowd here is varied (pretty sure I saw a nun with some school kids and a few real life bikers straight out of Sons of Anarchy eating here today). They serve Hudy on tap which is great if you like crappy beers (sorry Hudy, I can only conclude that people get excited because you never see Hudy on tap and that makes it cool. For me, I'd rather have some Milwaukee's Beast on tap). Also, they only have the cheeseburger special on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday but of course offer the burgers every day at full price (which is $6.75 for a burger and fries, no drink). In the end, this is not a place for a gourmet burger like you'd find at Gordo's. But if you're in the mood for a legit bombass burger at a cheap price then Quatman Cafe is the place.

Want a delicious, flavorful, no-frills burger? Look no further! Quatman Cafe delivers, and the fries are good too. The service is attentive, and they don't rush you out. This place is definitely worth a try!

Great place to get a simple, delicious burger for a great price. The cheeseburger comes with just onion and pickes (although I ask for no onion). I love that it's within walking distance of my house. The service is great, the atmosphere is very small-town and homey. Carry-out orders usually come out in five minutes or less. I would definitely recommend Quatman's to anyone who is looking for a good, old-fashioned, inexpensive burger without a bunch of frills.

I've only been twice and both times for the cheeseburger special. It is a burger, cheese, onion on a bun with fries and a drink for $6.19 and your drink can be a Hudy Delight. The food is served on a paper plate and the atmosphere isn't fancy, but the service is quick and friendly. Since my friend lives in the area and frequently the place, she was greeted but I was made to feel just as welcome. You don't get a bill, you just walk over to the cash register and pay up. It's a little different than every other burger joint and I like it.

The Quatman burger and dining experience are worth the trip into the heart of the 'Wood. Don't expect anything fancy or a deep selection.....just good juicy burgers with limited toppings. Actually, you should go to Quatman's just to ground yourself. Paper plates, canned beer, checkered table cloths, fat burgers and fries done right....'nuff said!

No pretensions about this place. It's a genuine blue-collar 1950s style dive--not in the nostalgic or fun sense of the word like Terry's, but a dive that's been preserved in formaldehyde for a half century--that serves very fresh, very cheap, very basic burgers. The food is seasoned (or rather, NOT seasoned) exactly the same way it was when your parents were young, when anything beyond salt and pepper was exotic. The staff here doesn't know what truffles are, much less put them on their burgers. Perfect if this is exactly what you're looking for, and severely disappointing if you expect anything more.

I love Quatman's, and I'm not even a burger fan. This is a low key, no frills, casual place, that also happens to be very affordable. It has a small menu, and they are not big on substitutions. During lent, they offer a fish fry special on friday's that is one of the best fish sandwhiches I have ever had! The chili is also great.

  • Linsey G.

When it comes to burger joints, I am not one to discriminate because of its atmosphere. Sure it can help the overall grade, but if the burger's right, then you can't do much to detract from the grade either. I've only eaten at Quatman's once, and a co-worker and I went simply because we heard it has great burgers. There were TVs showing an afternoon Reds game, which was nice. The service was outstanding and the man (I presume management or ownership of some sort) waiting on us was super friendly. Upon receiving our burgers, we got them on paper plates (which is cool because the tablecloths make it appear is though you'd be on a picnic anyhow). I delved into my burger and learned that it was dry and overcooked. I love my burgers to have some pink in the middle with plenty of juice and flavor, but--despite its OK taste--it was a bit of a disappointment. I was, however, very excited to see that they had Diet Dr. Pepper (albeit in cans), because it is my favorite pop and a rarity when eating out. Because of that fact alone I will make it a point to go back and try it again. Maybe this time they'll get the temperature just right.

Quatman Cafe saves the day! I tried to go to Gordo's for lunch, but didn't realize it was closed until 4... Enter Quatman Cafe - a short jaunt north on Montgomery. A great place to grab a burger. I was surprised they have a website because they don't even really have a menu! You have to read off the board by the cash register. I went on a Saturday and got the Daily Special - Cheeseburger, Fries and Drink for $6.19. This was a good deal because the burgers usually come with chips... and I love the fries! They're slightly thicker than a shoestring fry - but just as addicting. The drinks are from a can, but they have a large selection and are served alongside nostalgia-inducing diner style glasses. They also had Gold Peak unsweetened iced tea! Don't see that as an option too often. And I'm not sure I'm ok with the TTC-loving-yelpers who try to compare these two places. They're not comparable -- they're just different, ok? If you want some sauced-up-jazz-cramped-waiting-area-smell-like-grease-for-the-rest-of-the-day then go to Terry's. If you want something lower key - check out Quatman.

Quatman's definitely has one of the best burgers in Cincy. It's a straight up no frills burger for sure, so don't expect fancy sauces or toppings. The burger is dense and larger than a typical beef patty cooked on a griddle. The fries are nothing special, but they are good and perfect alongside the burger. The beer couldn't be cheaper. My husband and I can get out of there, both of us having a burger, fries, cups of chili, and beers for $20 (incl. tip). Now, that's just crazy! It's a Cincinnati classic and a must-try.

I am upping Quatman Cafe to 4 stars. Having them grill the onions for you makes all the difference!

  • Tom W.

I'll keep it short and concise - cheap, clean, basic, basic bar food, good enough for the price, not worth a special trip, Fish sandwich was a tad fishy, burger was cooked well done, no questions asked, reminded me of my mom's burger (can't be too careful about salmonella!!) Homemade soup was, again, basic. Don't look for micro brews. The people working there were super. They do a great business, and they should, there's a decent market for quality food and great service, basic or not.

Another crappy burger place in Norwood. No thanks. Why does it seem like everything in Norwood is exactly like this joint?

    (1)
  • Scott G.

I agree with other reviews that it's ridiculous to name this place 'best burger' in the city. It's a low-key cheap deli/bar feel place that has a tasty hamburger with minimal presentation. If you go, expect very gruff customer service if you get any.

I've reviewed the Quatman Cafe in Mason, but this was the first time I'd been to the original in Norwood (In business about 45 years longer than the one in Mason, to my Yelp "compliment"er that didn't appreciate my other review) They have the same special on most evenings, $6.19 for a cheeseburger, fries and drink (Hudy on tap!). They food was just as delicious as the Mason location, but the service was not as good. It is obviously a very "local" joint, with people being greeted by name as they walk in the door. As a non-local, we had to wait at our table for quite a while before a waiter came to take our order. When our first round of drinks were finished, we had a bit of a wait for a refill as well. Regardless, the delicious burger will keep me coming back, and the $20 total bill (including tip) for a Saturday dinner for two ain't bad either :)

Great little burger shop in Norwood. It's a simple concept with absolutely no pretense. Friendly staff to boot. The fries are superb. The burgers are absolutely basic; nothing fancy and simply good. Juicy patties with a hint of seasoning, so it's not drowned in 10 flavors that kill the taste of beef. The menu is sparse but that is a good thing. They stick to what they know best and it works.

3 stars only because: 1) it is already considered a dive (and fully lives up to that reputation) and 2) I ate during a price special that was a pretty good value. Otherwise, I would give less stars. The pros: go on a Saturday night (though I think they may offer it other days also) to get the cheeseburger, fries and Hudy special for $6.19. The burger was a pretty good size. But not all that big in flavor. The cons: though this is a pretty good price, the fries are just average, the burger only comes with a slice of onion, and it's all served on paper plates which don't handle all the grease very well. The place gets crowded and cramped and is dirty (if you're going to use tablecloths, please wash them once in a while!). Final tip: go with someone who has been before. The serving staff was pretty much non-existent, so if not for my friend I'd have no idea they don't give you a bill, but that you have to walk up to the cash register and tell them what you ordered to pay. Overall: I would probably go back if asked by friends, but only during the $6.19 special.

This place is awesome, I had the luxury to discover it through a local friend. The atmospher is great, very local. The beers are good. As starter I suggest the a pot of chili with crackers, then a couple of traditional cheeseburger. I try to have dinner there each time I am in town.

Simple. Delicious. Hands down the best burger in Cincinnati. You can go to Zips and Terry's and those are all fine but if you want a simple burger done right with great service, Quatman Cafe is it. Our office went on a burger tour in 2010 visiting places like Zip's, Arthur's, Gordo's among many...Quatman was voted the best. They know how to do it.

One of the most unassuming little joints you'll ever visit has some the best burgers around. No fancy toppings, just a big slab of onion and thin slices of sweet pickles. It can be a bit crowded on Friday night after local basketball games, but you can call ahead and see if they'll save a spot for you. Most times I've been there they've taken money off the bill at checkout for no reason other then they're nice people. It's the perfect example of what Midwestern dining should be: no nonsense deliciousness blended with honest-to-goodness hospitality. *Don't miss out on Hudepohl Beer on tap with frosty mugs.

Quatman Cafe was the latest Cincy institution that the husband took me to in the "making up for his going to these places without me before I moved to Cincinnati" tour. This place looks like your average neighborhood spot and despite its legendary status, for many people it really is their neighborhood spot. During our visit, there were a number of regulars chatting and catching up. Places like this always have a special place in my heart because you know that these are people who care about the place and have for years. We went on one of the Cheeseburger Special days...which is a cheeseburger, fries, and drink (including Hudy) for $6.19. This isn't the best burger I've ever had but it was definitely delicious and juicy. The fries were also good, but not the star of the show. Considering that we got in and out with a fantastic meal on the cheap - I would consider this spot a winner. One thing to note: customers go up to the counter to pay once they are finished. It was a great time...although we did turn down the nice gentleman who offered to sell us a speaker set for "only $20 bucks" on the way in. We decided to pass on his offer, although I can only assume that this was a reputable traveling speaker salesman, so our loss was someone else's gain.

More than just a burger joint, Quatman Café(or Quatman's ) is a part of the neighborhood. Located right on the corner of Montgomery Road and (wait for it) Quatman Avenue, Quatman's is half local watering hole and half back-yard grill-out. You can come by for a beer at the end of the day or drop in for a bite to eat during your lunch break (done 'em both). The greatest appeal about Quatman's is that it doesn't pretend to be something that it isn't. There's no attempt to be fancy or pretentious. The tables and chairs are a smorgasbord of cheap furniture. The bar is just a bar, nothing at all fancy about it. The wall is filled with pictures of neighborhood residents as well as plaques from local little league teams. You walk in and you feel like you're in an extension of your own home. I've gone in with friends who happen to live in Norwood and have been visiting Quatman's their whole life. The staff and owners know them by name and say hello. It's a great feeling. The food is surprisingly fresh for a burger/sandwich joint. You can tell that quality is very important to the owners. I've tried most items on the menu and I would recommend the Cheeseburger, Corned Beef, and Chicken Salad sandwich. Fries are a great add on. I would avoid the chili though. Way to runny for my taste. Although you may want to consider dipping your fries in the chili. After placing your order, the wait is quite miniscule. Every time I've been to Quatman's the place was full to the brim. I am always shocked to see how quickly my food gets out to me. I love that the orders are delivered on paper plates (chili and the soup get a real dish). Every day a different special is offered, but quite honestly you don't really need it. The prices are very pretty cheap and you get a lot for what you pay for. One of the characteristics that gives Quatman's its charm is settling the bill. It is done completely by the honor system. After eating your meal, you head up to the register and tell them what you ordered. You can easily lie and the staff would never question you. They assume the best in people and as such have gained the trust and respect of their customers, both new and old. This is truly a family-owned, family-friendly restaurant. Go with your family or a group of friends. You won't regret it. Mahalo, and enjoy.

I FINALLY got to visit the famous Quatman's and I can't really complain, you just have to go in with the right expectations. This is like a great example of the perfect burger from 1987. No fancy breads, no fancy cheeses, no fancy anything really. What they do, and do exceptionally well, is make a no-frills hearty, juicy, burger with melting dripping cheese and an onion slice at a good price (6.25 or so for a cheeseburger, fries, pickle wedge, and drink). I'm also not a fan of their fries, they're too small to make good use of ketchup individually and too many of them are too short to not end up eating them by the fist by the end of the plate. So if you'd like an excellent classic burger at a good price, this is your place, just don't ask for much more.

Wow... seriously... if you are just looking for a simple delicious amazing burger Quatman Cafe is a great place. People that consider Quatman's the best burger in Cincinnati are in denial. I have tried to love their burgers but it is just a plain dry overcooked burger with little toppings. I can see the local appeal to this place. There are some locals that grew up in the area and love this place like they love Pete Rose. It is a working class establishment that prides itself on the honor system when paying the bill and the staff have probably worked at Quatman's for the last twenty years so they know many of the regular's and their grandparents. If you are plain person that likes things simple, you might like Quatman's but if you have gotten spoiled by the latest burger joints in Cincinnati to catch all the buzz like Terry's, Gordo's & Mayberry's then you will be disappointed. If you like a juicy burger where the meat is of such good quality that you can order it at a temperature of medium or medium-rare than Quatman's is not for you. Local burger institutions like Arthur's, Zip's & Oakley Pub & Grill make a much better burger and Terry's & Gordo's (also located in Norwood) are tops right now.

Hands down my favorite burger in Cincinnati! I've been going here for years, and it never gets old. It's simple, but I've learned that sometimes simple is better. The burgers come with pickles and onions on the side, and ketchup and mustard on the tables (mayo is available, but you have to ask). That's it. I usually like lettuce and tomato on my burgers, but something about this one goes just perfectly with the pickles and onion. I've brought many out of towners here when visiting, and all of them have loved it. Sometimes the service is short and sweet, but don't mistake that for rude. They usually only have a couple people working and if it gets packed, they need to keep moving. I highly recommend Quatman's if you're in the mood for a burger (or like me, a cheeseburger). You should not be disappointed.

  • John M.

Its not a bad place and the staff is friendly but the burger is nothing more than you or I could create in our backyard on a summer day. Don't get me wrong, its good, but its not something I crave and not something I feel as thought I need to go out to a restaurant to enjoy. Feel free to give them a shot and make your own opinion, I don't think you will walk away disappointed, but you may not walk away impressed either. They're good people and deliver a decent product, so giv'em a shot.

Quatman's is my favorite burger place in Cincinnati. It's a little neighborhood bar in the heart of Norwood, right off Montgomery. They serve huge hamburgers with almost no fixin's. Normal beer slection served in frosty mugs. Pretty much full of locals and families all the time. One of my favorite places to go.

The best basic burger in Cincinnati...and it's in Norwood. For the uninitiated, your request to "run it through the garden" here will get you a scary scowl and an irritated education on what's in "the garden"(ketchup and onion). Just order the cheeseburger with fries or chips and walk away, my favorite!

This place has been a favorite of mine for years. One of the things that make it a favorite is that it hasn't changed a lick since I first stepped inside with some co-workers 17 years ago. Another is the fact that the menu is small and what they do serve is really well done. The four things that I've tried are the cheeseburger, the chili, the fish sandwich and on a couple of occasions I've tried the turtle soup. I've been very satisfied with all of these dishes espacially the cheesburger served with a slive of onion, on a paper plate. The service is fast, no-nonsense but friendly. Because this is a bar, you can have a mug of beer which many lunch patrons opt for (mostly the retired guys) and soft drinks are sold by the can with a glass of ice (not good for the folks like me who try to get their money's worth from the free-refill soft drinks available from most restaurants. There are no checks, just the honor system which seems to work for them (honest customers are in good supply here). I hear there is another Quatman Cafe in Mason which was recently opened but haven't been there yet.

Awesome. The place hasn't changed maybe ever. To some it may be hole in the wall, to others it is pure character. Nobody questions how outstanding the food is.
