Perfect after church lunch! SO yummy! Classic American BBQ. I was so excited to see they had beef brisket, they also had sweet bbq sauce that made it even better! The Mac N Cheese was good and I was surprised to see they serve fair fries...can it get any better? Oh yeah Sweet Tea :)

Damn good BBQ I was pleasantly surprised!! I have been smoking my own pork shoulder now for quite a few years, and I think I can make some really nice BBQ. I have to say, on this day I think i had some of the best BBQ I have ever had - including my own! When i found out this was a small chain i almost fell out of my chair. Buy stock in this place, if they keep their quality up they are going to take off!

Top of the line BBQ... We've been in this area a few times over the past 3 years & we always stop here... Great food... Great price... Great service... Clean... Great atmosphere... The hardest decision to make is which 2 sides to choose with your meal... Drinks are on ice... A few TV's so you can catch up on the latest sporting events as well... If you don't eat here, it's your loss!!!

My greatest challenge is resisting those delicious fries covered in cheese and bacon. The sides are on point and the meat- don't get me started! Definitely the best brisket in the city. Cool, laid back, and always good.

I have been a fan of BBQ for ages and have eaten at places all over the country, I have to say City BBQ is awesome. First thing one notices when they arrive is the great service. Everyone here is as friendly as one can get, the ONLY place I have ever had such good customer service has been in the Apple stores. They take pride in service and if something is not right, they will make it right guaranteed. The next thing you notice is the food. I have a hard time deciding and usually end up with a City Sampler. They have raised prices recently and even on a budget we go at least two to three times every pay period just for the excellent food. The ribs are fall off the bone, the brisket is great (I aways ask for lean cut to avoid any fat) and my son loves the banana pudding and chocolate cake.

Have always really liked City BBQ, but today I tried ordering online and was really disappointed. They messed up my side (potato salad instead of corn pudding) and gave me a small drink when I ordered a large (I didn't realize because my wife made the order and I didn't pay attention to the drink size she ordered). Also, they didn't put any plastic wear in the bag..I know it's small, and I could have grabbed some myself..but still.

Out of towner, and would drive there just to have their food! Experience was great! Had the bbq chicken and sampled a few sides which were all delicious. Liked the idea of the different sauces too. Went back to get a piece of chocolate cake and was told it was on the house! Nice touch and the cake rocked!! Definitely be back, for sure!!

We went when it had first opened and it was packed but still the service was quick and the food was good. The mac and cheese was my favorite part. Lots of different BBQ sauces to try and choose! We will be back.

Saturday night, one register open very slow service.. Food good but won't be back

Best BBQ

City Barbeque doesn't put out the best BBQ you'll find, but it's a decent meal and you get it quickly. The various sauces are decent, but nothing spectacular. I'll be back, but mostly because I'm not sure where else I can find BBQ in the area.

Best BBQ place in the Midwest...period. I travel a ton for business and I LOVE pit BBQ! I have worked in all the Mecca's of BBQ...North Carolina, South Carolina, Kansas City and all over Texas. In the Midwest I am usually forced to the chains like Smokey Bones and Famous Dave's. They are OK but that's about it. I haven't tried the other City BBQ locations but this one in Newark is the best BBQ place I have seen north of a line from Kansas City to North Carolina end of story I got the City Sampler which came with Smoked Turkey Breast, Smoked Summer Sausage, Smoked Pulled Pork and Smoked Brisket. I got the sampler so I could figure out what my favorite(s) would be if I was to come back. It didn't help me...because they all were GREAT! Brisket was lean, fell apart like it was pulled pork but not died out. Pulled pork was great too. Not fatty and not dry like leather. Smoked Turkey breast was flavorful and juicy. Smoked Sausage was lean and moist but cooked through. Across the board it was all just perfectly executed pit smoked meat. The City Sampler was $15.99 with 2 sides and Texas Toast. Add in a soda and it was just under $20 w tax.. The portions were large. I was by myself and got two meals out of my platter but had I been with my wife we could have gotten by with one City Sampler easy. For my two sides I chose Gumbo and Mac&Cheese. The Gumbo was real good. Thick Served over rice, the meat was smoked turkey breast instead of Seafood like you would expect in Louisiana. It had a kick to it but was not overly hot to the point it was overwhelming. The Mac&Cheese...real good. Probably the best basic dinner style M&C I have ever eaten in a restaurant. Nothing fancy, just executed perfectly. The cheese was creamy not clumpy and taste good. Better than moms (don't tell my mom) I can honestly say it was great BBQ and sides for a fair price considering the quality of the meats and size of the portion. Yes....it's more expensive than Arby's or Wendy's but it is worth every penny. I have been working here in Newark for two weeks and kicking myself for not trying this place before now! Oh, it is cafeteria style and quick service by super friendly people!

Very good barbecue selection with multiple sauces to choose from. I had their special sandwich, "More Cowbell" which was their brisket topped with pepper, onions, and cheese. They had good sides as well - fries and beans.

Sub par ribs--Noting but fat and gristle it seemed. Brisket nothing like the slow cooked stuff in Texas. Fries are good though.

First visit to this location, but not first to City. It looks pretty new: clean, well-organized, and full of smoky meat smells. The service was excellent; friendly and efficient, and though there was a problem with the order it was resolved well. The food was typical City- decent meat, excellent sides, and great sweet tea.

Great place to eat. The beef brisket is amazing. The have great lunch special that are great size portions for a reasonable price.

It's not the best BBQ but its still very good. The service is the real gem here though as everyone is polite and engaging. I enjoy the atmosphere. The beans are the best thing on the menu and they have pieces of brisket mixed in. The pulled pork is very good as well.

Ate here while visiting my bro at Denison. Alas, if only BBQ revue would open a restaurant here instead - sorry City BBQ, but this experience paled in comparison. Service - very nice. Best part of the meal, unfortunately Food - BBQ was pretty good. I like that they have 3 sauces, altho personally I prefer that pulled pork be cooked in the sauce - I think it ends up more flavorful that way. The mac and cheese was not at all tasty - the cheese tasted bland and fake, a la Easy Mac. Added a bunch of salt and pepper and still found it totally unappetizing. I did like the cornbread altho it was not stellar. No complaints on the sweet tea. Misc - they do not recycle!! This blew my mind. I was visiting from Seattle where recycling is practiced with almost religious fervor, so the sight of plastic cups and glass bottles getting thrown in the trash totally turned my stomach. Sorry but that is totally retrograde and barbaric. Maybe that seems harsh, but c'mon! (I took mine home to recycle.) Maybe if you are unable to trek far from campus you would make this a haunt, but I would do so begrudgingly. I feel kind of bad rating 3 stars since the people seemed nice and I like to eat local, but there is definitely room for improvement.

This is the second City BBQ I've been to. And let me say....it was just as lip-smackin', finger-lickin' good as the first time! Both times I had the City BBQ which comes with a sampler of all the meats, garlic bread and two sides. You WILL be stuffed after that....no matter how hungry you were as you came through the front door! Also, the sweet tea is like crack......for real! It's perfectly sweet, but not TOO sweet! Anyway, two thumbs up!

Excellent; really surprised and delighted. Great food, great service.

The staff here are super cool. Everyone remembers us and we are treated like friends. The food is always served piping hot and fresh :) I love the brisket, my husband loves the pork, my son loves the chicken! I just started eating their salads and OmG they are fantastic. The tea is always fresh, and every time we go there, we see people cleaning!! This is the best spot in town. I give it my highest recommendation!!

I was in town for business and somewhat skeptical about bbq in the middle of Ohio. I've lived and enjoyed bbq in Texas, Memphis, and KC and the food at City BBQ definitely stacks up. I had the sampler of mini-sandwiches - one brisket, one pork, and one sausage. Important note: There's nothing mini about these sandwiches. All three meats were moist and flavorful and could have been enjoyed without any sauce at all. However, I tried both the sweet and the spicy sauces and they were great compliments to the meat. The bread on the sandwiches was great as were the sides (mac n cheese) and beans. The service also was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend City BBQ and I can't wait to go back again!

Still the best BBQ ever! Quality everything and fast. Yummy! Friendly service. You must get brisket. And fries. Mac n cheese decent great tea and pickles are free! Get the hot BBQ sauce

I was sent to Newark, OH for a business trip and was looking for a place to eat. Right next to my hotel was a Texas Roadhouse, and across the street was City BBQ. I opted to give City BBQ a try. I am so glad that I did. After finding the menu online, I called in my order for pickup. After reading some reviews I decided on the City Sampler with fries and baked beans as sides. The peach cobbler sounded really good, but I am only one person and can only eat so much....but, given that I was on a business trip (and had a refrigerator in my room for leftovers) I decided to splurge and give it a go. My order was ready 20 minutes after I called, so I walked across the street to pick it up. I told the girl at the counter I had a pickup order and she knew right away who I was (remembered my name from my phone order). She called into the kitchen that she needed an order of fries for my take out. I payed $21 for everything, and took my food back to the hotel. When I got to the hotel and unpacked everything, I saw that the fries were not in the bag. I had to go back out and walk back to the restaurant. I walked in and told a new girl that the fries were missing from my order. She said "sorry" and called into the back that she needed a fry asap. 1 minute later she bagged up my fries and was just about to hand me the bag when she says, "here...have a piece of cake" and she put a huge piece of chocolate cake in my bag. I said thank you and went back to my hotel. As I sat in my room looking at the mammoth amount of food in front of me, I wondered how I was going to eat it all. Needless to say, when I was done eating, it barely looked like I touched it and I was stuffed! The Sampler of pulled pork, brisket, turkey and summer sausage was amazing. The summer sausage was a bit salty for my taste, but that is just the nature of summer sausage. Everything was great. I had enough food for dinner that night, and breakfast, lunch and dinner the next day. I took the huge piece of chocolate cake back home with me to Chicago the next day. To sum it up, City BBQ is great food. They had great customer service and were very nice about fixing their mistake...I have no complaints. The value for your dollar is amazing. Even the to go containers were top quality. They were plastic containers...none of the cheap Styrofoam stuff. If I ever get sent back to Newark for work, I know where I'm going to go for dinner! Just as a side note: When I walked in the restaurant to get my order of fries, 2 state police officers walked in behind me. I guess the saying is true...eat where the cops eat because it is usually good!

We get food here for home about once a month. Last night, the cashier was a person we've never seen there before. She couldn't even pretend to be happy while taking the order before us, a large happy family. She never smiled ONCE while with them, or us. We always enjoyed the friendly faces there, but last night was an exception. She needs a lesson in customer service. Hope she's not the manager. The rest of the crew seemed a little on edge.

Food is great and service is with a smile! We came in pretty close to closing time, and yet they didn't rush us out. The fries are of course fantastic, but better in house than later AT your house. Take it from me. Also, for a healthier choice, the black bean corn salad is awesome! Finally, get your brisket w/ extra bark! You won't regret it!
