This charming sushi bar/Chinese restaurant opened near my home a few months ago and after eating dinner there last night, I'm MAD at myself for not going there sooner! I normally have to drive MILES to get to any decent sushi place and now there's an excellent place just a mile from me. When we got to the restaurant it wasn't crowded and seemed slow, but they had many take-out orders walk through the door. (Plus it was a Wed night and raining.) The server was very polite and was eager to take our order, tell us about the menu and suggest a Japanese beer we might like. The menu is split into 2 sections: one for Chinese food and one for Japanese. I wondered if this might be a bad sign since you either find one or the other. The menu was filled with all the items I like to see at an Asian restaurant and the sushi menu was VERY large. We each pick two different types of sushi....I got the Las Vegas roll and the salmon roll. I also ordered the fried dumplings. The dumplings came out first and were wonderful. There were 6 of them and only priced at $4.95. Such a deal!!! My sisters soft shell crap was amazing too! The sushi looked beautiful and tasted like a dream!! We were both thrilled at what we got. At the end of dinner the sushi chef (a darling older Asian man) came over to the table and was pleased to see how full and happy we were. He sliced up an orange (very creatively) and served it to us as a "sweet bite" at the end of the meal. It was very nice. The only thing better than the sushi was the prices!! SO much lower then what I'm used to paying. I ordered 2 beers, 2 sushi rolls & an appetizer and my bill came to $26. I was VERY pleased! I will be going back and ordering take out again and again!!!

I would have given this place 4 stars if they would have had good service. To start with, we waited ten minutes to be greeted and asked what we would like to drink. By this time, we had our drinks and food picked out so we ordered both at the same time. The disappointing thing was, it took 10 more minutes to get our drinks and our Sushi never came out. The food finally came after what seemed like a long wait. Probably because our appetizer never came. The dinners for all 3 of us were spectacular. There is nothing I can say bad about our meals. Once we were half done with our meal, our sushi came out. It was a pacific roll that was spectacularly crafted but we were already full from our meal, it was pretty much wasted. Hopefully next time they will have more than the husband and wife working.

For Newark this place is 4 stars. Compared to places like Little Dragon in Columbus I give it 3 stars. Mostly on the quality and food flavor. Presentation and restaurant environment are 5 stars. It is big and clean and very new looking, one of the best in the area. Bathrooms are pretty clean. They are One holers which might be a problem when busy. Sink in the men's room sprays so hard it got my shirt and pants wet. To start I had the Crab Rangoon which had great breading. Felt less greasy than most I've had. Didn't detect any crab at all and what was there was probably imitation. Mostly cream cheese. Excellent presentation and the sweet and sour sauce was spot on. Slightly above average. $3.95 for 4 Lunch special was General Tso's with fried rice and hot and sour soup for a bargain at $5.95. Soup was peppery with big hard chunks of chicken instead of being tender. Extreme pepper taste to the point you can't taste much else. Has very little egg in it. I couldn't finish it due to how much black pepper was in it and I use a lot of pepper on things. Fried rice was the least fried I've had anywhere. It was mostly rice with a tiny bit of egg, however the rice seemed to be higher quality than most places. General Tso's was a little weak on flavor and extremely salty. The quality was just about average on the chicken and breading. The broccoli was pretty tender and crisp aka perfect. Service was excellent. And it should have been seeing as I was the only patron at 1p on a Wednesday. The guy would seriously run to my table when a plate was empty. I will definitely give this place a few more tries. I want to try the Mongolian steak, the phad Thai and some of the sushi to thoroughly judge this restaurant.

Fabulous sushi & always a pleasant server. The owner always comes around to check on us & ask how food tastes. The Columbus roll & Las Vegas roll are my faves.

I dined here on a whim with my boyfriend after running an errand nearby, so I had no expectations going in. When we first saw "Asian Fusion" we thought it would be some interesting combination of Asian dishes and another type of food. We were surprised to find that the restaurant that calls itself a "fusion" restaurant has only two independent menus, Japanese and Chinese. And while the food was alright, the atmosphere was bizzare. There was American classical music playing, and ornate decorations that belong more in an old movie theater than an Asian restaurant. The most disappointing part of the experience was the service. Our waitress would not leave us alone and the place was so empty and quiet that we felt like we couldn't have a private conversation without our waitress butting in. She asked us how our meal was three or four times and would linger until she was satisfied with our answers. At the table behind us she literally asked a man how much he weighed before he lost weight, an anecdote he told her when the restaurant messed up his vegan Phad Thai. Another bizarre addition, the bus boy took away my full glass of water at least four times to refill it. Even though it was completely full. Towards the end of my meal I had to concentrate so much on not laughing that I couldn't carry on with eating. The most annoying thing though, our waitress kept raving about the 5 star rating the restaurant got on 'the internet' and instructed us to write a review for her restaurant.

My wife and I took our three younger children to dinner here tonight, and will never be back. The food was tasty enough - not outstanding, but good. But the service was lackluster at best... our server was clearly not thrilled to be there. We had a few inexpensive appetizers, 1 sweet/sour chicken dinner, 1 bowl of pho, 1 California and 1 rainbow sushi roll, and a few plain shrimp on a plate for my daughter (for which they charged us $9.50 for a "shrimp dinner") - and our bill was $70 with (an admittedly smaller than normal) tip. With those prices and service, it's no wonder we were the ONLY customers in the restaurant the entire time we were there - from around 5:30p - 7:00p

The basil chicken picture was my lunch. It was nicely prepared with crunchy vegetables and very good sauce. Everything tasted fresh. I started with the hot and sour soup which was more of a broth as opposed to a starch thickened goo served by most others. I will return.

I have given Chili Pepper two more chances and now I am done. I went back the second time and ordered Kung Pao tofu. I asked for it extra spicy. What I got was something that would not even register as spicy to a newborn baby. It was pretty much flavorless, actually. Usually Chinese sauces are very sweet and/or very salty, if nothing else. I also ordered vegetable spring rolls. They were ok, but extremely greasy. The waiter was very nice and tried hard to do a good job, but he was constantly being yelled at by this guy who I assume is the owner. That waiter is the ONLY reason I went back a third time. But, again, the food was lousy and the boss just kept yelling at the waiter and I think at the people working in the back. It was very unprofessional and quite disturbing. I especially hated to see my waiter being treated poorly because he was doing a good job from what I could tell. I will not be back, rather, I will wait for the next restaurant that opens up in this location, because nothing seems to stick around there for very long.

I explained to our lovely Caucasian waitress that I wanted my food extremely spicy. I ordered Basil Chicken and it was bland. It was also green beans, onions and chicken in a brown sauce...if there was basil it was dried flakes. I found the waitress and asked for some red pepper. I got about two tablespoons of flaked peppers in oil and then asked for more. So my bland food and the annoying television made me sorry I hadn't heeded Zeph's warning. My husband's Pad Thai was good. The hot and sour soup was ok.

Another craving for Phad Thai, another disappointing meal. Why do we go back?? because it's never the same dish twice? THIS time our to go containers had 30% tough onion slices (no exaggeration) 35% rice noodles, 20% chicken (a good thing) and the rest was Pak Choy, or some other sort of celery-like green. NOT anything like a Phad Thai. We'll give them one more chance. The Egg Drop Soup was above average.
