I decided my previous review was insanely long and I must have been in a manic phase at the time. The fact is that this place is splendifferous - friendly, creative and distinctively local - and I'm going to go there whenever I want my sorbet-style-gelato. I look forward to seeing new flavors and hoping they add to the ambiance a bit to bring in the kids - cuz it seems like a place where kids and grown-up kids can mingle in harmony. Yum.

It wasn't the worst, the boys working were friendly enough. The gelato just wasn't for me. It was too sweet and my husbands gelato was soup when he got it. I appreciate the hard work that goes into making a homemade locally sourced product. Just not my cup of tea.

The gelato is yummy. They have a very interesting flavors and each one that I have tried has been very flavorful.

This place is fantastic. With all the great ice cream / frozen treat shops in Cleveland, this one stands in a class of it's own. Awesome service. Great product. Bring back the Ginger Snap!!!

Amazing place with an awesome selection of homemade gelatos!!! The pistachio gelato is by far the best ice cream/gelato/frozen treat I've ever had, to die for!!!

3 words... Irish Cream Gelato. Whoa.

Best gelato ever! Everything is made from scratch, all natural! They even hand pick the fruit that they use for the gelato and use local products to make their gelato. The workers and owners are friendly and down to earth. They have wide variety of choices and the gelato is flavorful! A++++++++

Yum! I didn't know what gelato was before I ate here to be honest. I mean, I had a general idea, but I didn't know how it was different from ice cream. Luckily, they have an explanation on every table. Gelato contains less air than ice cream so it is denser and it is made with milk rather than cream. I had the Jack's Bourbon Caramel and it was delicious! I tried the Beeramisu which was interesting, but not really what I was in the mood for. I tried some of my boyfriend's Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Cinnamon Swirl which was equally delicious. The place has a very chill vibe and was rather quiet on a Friday night. It has a cute ice cream parlor atmosphere and the staff was very helpful. I would say they need to change up their artwork though. I would recommend that they get reusable containers for those dining in. They give you real spoons to taste test flavors, but then disposables once you place your order which doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe they don't have the kitchen facilities to wash them, but I think this would be a good investment. Then again, maybe the server thought we were leaving and gave us to-go containers.

Watched a segment about The Sweet Spot on New Day Cleveland and decided to give it a shot after eating at Angelo's Pizza. My wife got the mint chocolate chip that I found to be objectionable, but she thought was the greatest thing in the world. I got the Tahitian Vanilla and loved it. My daughter got Turtle something or other and really enjoyed it. We were just about the only people here on a Saturday afternoon. Inside is about as cute as it gets, but an INSANELY loud compressor on a refrigeration unit ruined our dine-in experience. The owner (I think?) did advise us that it was going to be fixed the following week. Definitely a very good experience minus the noise. We will definitely be back.

First time here and I still need to go back and catch them when they have the coffee flavored ice cream. So I pretty much settled for raspberry sorbet and my fiance tried the vegan peanut butter!!! I wish my sorbet was seedless and it would definitely be five stars. I usually can't handle ice cream when it has so much heavy cream and milk. I did not get an upset stomach with this place. It was delicious and the small little cup was plenty. We will return to try out more flavors!!

This is a very unique Ice Cream Shop! There is Vegan Ice Cream, Non- Dairy Ice Cream as well as the typical Ice Cream! Has many unique flavors! I savored Coconut Lemongrass and it was excellent! It is a vegan style ice cream which is best consumed in a bowl. As I had it on a cone and it fell apart! Still tasted great and staff were quick to assist! Fun for all ages. Has children toys and table /chairs. Very simple but quaint! Will go back again! Prices are a bit high but you are paying for a very unique product!

This is by far our favorite gelato/frozen treat of all time! We moved to Columbus but still make trips back to Lakewood just for this gelato! The pistachio flavor is absolutely amazing!!! The butter pecan and cookies n milk are also faves! Love this place.

I love The Sweet Spot. It's the kind of local business you want to support- they make a great product, are great people, support local farms and businesses and are active in the community. One of the reasons I love The Sweet Spot is that they come up with fun and different flavors in addition to the standards that one would expect from a gelateria: Beeramisu (a riff on Tiramisu), Chocolate Mint Cayenne, Lemon Ginger and on and on. My faves are Key Lime Pie, Lemon Ginger and Pistachio. Seriously, it's the best pistachio gelato or ice cream I've ever had. It's made with crushed salted pecans so it's slightly salty and sweet. I dream of it. The place is owned by a family and I'm a fan of all of them. The mom, Becky, has always been incredibly patient when I've been in with my nephews who are always eager to try too many flavors before they make a decision. I adore Celeste (the daughter and the one who makes the gelato). She's fun and funny and who could not love someone who makes such a wonderful product. Price is appropriate for the quality of the product. Servings are appropriate gelato servings. They pack pints to go too. I try to always have a pint of the Key Lime Pie in my freezer and am kind of bummed that I'm out of it right now as I would really like some after writing this review!

I've been in twice- the staff is as sweet as the gelato! The Cashew Butter White Chocolate is a thing of tasty, tasty beauty. I'm so glad I moved back to the neighborhood and found this gem.

I love ice cream and my jean size reflects my ice cream/frozen confection enthusiasm. We went here on Saturday night and were surprised to see a line, given it was a rather chilly night. I sampled the vanilla and key lime, and settled on a half scoop of Coconut Almond Fudge and a half scoop of Chocolate Peanut Butter. Bf had Butter Pecan and Coconut Almond Fudge. Coconut Almond Fudge had a great flavor but had plenty of ice crystals throughout. It really ruined the texture and lended a mildly freezer burned taste. Chocolate Peanut Butter had a very mild peanut taste and very waxy chunks of chocolate. More ice crystals. I sampled the Butter Pecan (which my boyfriend couldn't even finish) and was completely overwhelmed with the taste of cheap vanilla extract and more ice crystals. It was horrible. I would not recommend- go to Honey Hut or Mitchell's instead.

I have been in here many times, and their gelato is always so good. The mint chocolate chip and the chocolate with sea salt are my favorite flavors. I've never encountered any bad service here, and while they do seem a little empty at times, I get the impression that a lot of people take their gelato to-go in bigger sizes for at home.

Oy vey! Enough already, I can't take it. Like Peter W said ... We are all going to die a slow and delicious death. In fact, I wish there were FEWER places like this within spitting distance, because now I'm really torn about where to go. But: a sincere and classy woman behind the counter; bold, fresh flavors made with local ingredients; and other assorted sweets and treats make this yet another standout in the Lakewood area.

My 4 year old ate up all of the blueberry sorbet and my 2 year old (amazingly) devoured his vegan snickerdoodle ice cream. Had a fun time.

I live down the street from this place and had been wanting to try it for awhile. The place was completely dead when I walked in, and it usually is when I drive by. No one was out to greet us, which I guess was okay because we had time to look at the flavors and decide without being stared down. When I ordered, the girl behind the counter didn't ask me if I wanted a cone or a cup, and she just put it in a cup. I then asked her if she had any cones-- I didn't want a cup. She said no, she hadn't had time to go get more cones and she had run out of them. At that point, I was ready to leave and not get anything from there--the girl was not friendly, she didn't care to tell me beforehand she was out of cones...I didn't want a cup of ice cream, I wanted a cone, and she was very rude in telling me that she didn't have any. My boyfriend is much nicer than I am, so he gave me a look that said, "just take it" and we stayed. My boyfriend and I had no idea the place was a vegan ice cream shop until after we ordered. Maybe it's because I eat vegan food items pretty much never that I didn't really care for it. I ordered some type of chocolate flavor, and it did not taste...good. I ordered chocolate because I wanted a chocolately flavor, and it just wasn't what I was looking for. It was definitely not worth the price, especially since I'm not vegan.

Found mention of this place in a Newschannel 5 article online. Free scoops for the first day of Spring! Aside from the amazing deal, this place is a must-visit. The gelato is delicious and the prices are extremely reasonable. We sampled a few different flavors: caramel tasted amazing, but should've been labeled "salted caramel". Butter pecan was very good, but had a slight citrusy flavor. It was actually a pleasant surprise and helped lighten up the flavor a bit. The ginger snap flavor was well-balanced, with just enough ginger to complement the creamy sweetness of the gelato. The wait staff was extremely friendly, and despite being only 30 minutes from closing time, they seemed genuinely happy to have us there. They enthusiastically told us about their ingredients (fresh, local, organic when possible and vegan at times as well) and offered up suggestions on what to try. One final note: the flavor selection featured a surprisingly large number of chocolate variations. Chocoholics take note!

This place really does have good gelato, but it's very pricey for me and my girlfriend it costs is 10 bucks for 2 little dinky cups of gelato. Yes it was very good, but honestly the pricing completely turned me off. Not to be a complete cheapskate or anything... But $10 is allot for just mediocre.

What a great little hidden gem! If you haven't checked this place out yet you need to GO NOW.,They make their gelato in house, and they have tiny spoons that they will let you sample all the flavors with. Some of my favorites include the dark chocolate salted caramel, the Jack Daniels, coffee and cookie, I could go on. And they also have vegan gelatos and sorbets. And it's all done up to look like a cute 1950's ice cream shop. SO awesome!

It's good. The cookies and milk was good, it just needed more cookies! I think I got maybe two bites with cookie pieces. The pistachio ice cream was way too salty. Would not get that again.

Tried this place out last week - it was a hot day and a cold treat sounded great. My boyfriend and I probably won't go back...I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, just so underwhelming that there wouldn't be much point. I don't mind paying boutique prices for things, but I want to be rewarded with something special. Neither of our gelatos had much flavor to them (I got the Irish Cream, which tasted more like a chocolate milkshake than anything), and they had this strange, slightly-crunchy crystalized texture to them, which I've never experienced in gelato before. I will probably go back again and try out the sorbets, because I am a big sorbet fan and the blueberry looked good, but I don't know if I'll be making it a habit. It's a cute place, I just wish the product had more flavor to justify the price!

Jack & Zachary Rock! Just had the best experience at the Sweet Spot, not to mention the BEST butter pecan gelato EVER. Thanks a bunch

Went there tonight for the first time for their free one scoop to celebrate spring. Extremely good gelato made from local and organic sources. Generous scoops and free samples. Staff was extremely friendly, we'll be back soon!

Update: We have consistently tried to support this business, but I'm starting to take their employees' treatment personally. So many people who post here rave about the service, so why is it any time my husband and I go here, the young men working at the counter are so unfriendly and lethargic? We try to be cheerful and make conversation, and they just roll their eyes and then sigh when we don't put something in the tip jar. This has been a real turnoff for us, no matter how good the gelato is. And it's always dead in here, so we feel uncomfortable being the only people there and having to whisper, because the place has such an echo. I recently tried their "drinking chocolate," which I expected to be amazing, but it was no better than what I can make at home in my Keurig machine, plus it had canned whipped cream on top. It was lukewarm and not even mixed well, because it was grainy at the bottom of the cup. We might give them another shot, but I won't continue to spend money here if this continues. So disappointed.

The gelato was great! I had cheesecake & strawberry to make my own strawberry cheesecake! Loved that combination. The atmosphere was great- we were the only ones in there for most of our stay but that's OK. Prices were very reasonable for the amount and quality that we received! Will come back again for sure!

You can't go wrong here- I've tried almost every flavor (thanks to the patient woman behind the counter) and left with 2 scoops of butter pecan and carmel crunch... Seriously delicious! Another great reason to visit The Sweet Spot is because they support and use local produce! Something other local ice cream parlors are seriously lacking. BTW- had to find reasonable excuses to visit here more often: nieces were in town, went to the gym 4 days in a row, and helped a friend move her appartment... hopefully I can come up with another excuse sometime soon!

Beeramisu! Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like: tiramisu flavor, but instead of soaking the lady fingers in espresso, they soak them in Great Lakes beer. Unbelievably tasty. The other flavors are great as well, and there's a huge, huge selection. The mint chocolate cayenne is delicious, as is the coffee and cookies, and the butter pecan, and the caramel crunch, and the...you know what? Just go. I don't think you can go wrong with any choice. Throw in the fact that they're locally owned and use fresh, locally sourced ingredients and it just gets better. It kinda blows my mind that I'll drive by and Menchies will be packed while this place sits empty. I know this is gelato and the other's frozen yogurt, but really? If you're in the mood for something cold and sweet, do yourself a favor and go a little further west on Detroit and treat yourself to something different. You won't regret it!

  • Jessica C.

Everything here is yummy. Just everything. My personal favorite is the coffee cookie. The fact that they use all locally sourced ingredients makes them that much better. I'm always happy to support a small local business that supports other small local businesses, especially when it means better ingredients that are all natural. I think the best part of this place is that you can sample everything there until you find what hits your taste buds....wait for it....in the sweet spot! The family who owns the place is super friendly and fun to interact with as well.

I'm starting to think the city of Lakewood is trying to kill me. Not in a "stab you in the face" quick kind of way, but rather in a "slowly develop weight-related health issues" kind of way. I guess I probably need to take some responsibility in all of this, but to be honest it's getting harder and harder with wonderful places like this opening up within waddling distance from home. We've been to the Sweet Spot several times since they opened earlier this month, and every time it's been great. There is certainly no shortage of great ice cream in this area, but the Sweet Spot's gelato offers a different take on frozen creamy goodness, offering both tried and true favorite flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry) as well as some more adventurous ones (mint chocolate cayenne, peppered blackberry, earl grey, and more). Each time we've visited, it seemed like the number of flavors had doubled since the last time, making the already difficult decision choosing a flavor even tougher. They also offer some vegan friendly flavors which is probably a welcome treat for those who forego the ways of the flesh. They've also got some locally produced pastries (cookies, pies, cupcakes) for those who aren't in the mood for something cold, or for those who are but want to take it home, they will happily hand pack a pint or quart for you. On top of all of this, the owners and staff are super-friendly and genuinely enthusiastic about their products. Before you can finish asking a question about a flavor, you'll have a sample spoon in your hand. Sweet Spot is yet ANOTHER great place to visit in Lakewood, you should go. Really, I mean it. NO. Stop reading this and go. NOW!

Excellent gelato, big servings here. Some very interesting flavors, my favorite was dark chocolate with a cinnamon caramel ribbon. There are rotating sorbet flavors that are apparently awesome according to my friend (she had piña colada and a grapefruit), though her hubby's vegan gelato was lacking the right consistency. Still, they have vegan gelato, which is more than you can say for most places. They seem to promote local ingredients and organic when they can. Yummy.

I grew up in Lakewood but live on the east side now. It's places like this that make me alternately sad and happy that I don't live in Lakewood. I have been wanting to try this place for months, but for one reason or another, haven't. Last night, after taking my grandma to dinner and visiting my parents, I decided to reward myself for being such a lovely family member. Because it was my first time, I decided to go for two scoops, figuring I could get two flavors, take it home, and have it two nights. The flavors I chose were the cheesecake and the coffee cookie. After my first spoonful I realized that saving some for the next day just was not in the cards. This was actually my first gelato experience, and I must say....I'm a huge fan! The texture is wonderful, and the flavors I got were excellent. There were so many choices it was hard to choose, and the employees are all too happy to let you sample the different ones, even when you come in 5 minutes before they close. I tried the key lime which was great, but there were at least a dozen others I'd like to try. Overall, great experience, love the variety of flavors, the cute little shop, and the good service. I'll be back!

Mmmmmmm, WoW! What can I say about The Sweet Spot other than it hit my sweet spot. I can't remember that name of the first flavor I tried other than "Fig .......", however I can't forget the flavor. It was my favorite! I also tried the Lemon Ginger which was great too. I'll definitively be back.

Amazing gelato. Family owned and operated, and they served us even though they had just closed at 11pm. Local and organic ingredients when necessary. Creative flavors like wasabi-ginger, chocolate-mint-cayenne, chai-tea-honey, grapefruit-avocado, along with the standard favorites. I ha the lemon-ginger, which was amazing, but Illl have to come back to try the rest. YUM!

In fairness, I went to the Sweet Spot web site after experiencing their gelato to see how they describe it. I guess I am used to creamier, fuller flavor Italian style gelato. The Sweet Spot says they have, "American Gelato." To me this translates into almost ice milk texture (if you remember that stuff). A previous poster referred to it as sorbet-style gelato and that is a close description, too. The reason for the 3 star review is I felt the flavors weren't as bold as they could have been, with some of the combination flavors over-delivering on one flavor and falling short on the other (see: Coffee cookie and the Ginger something or other). The best surprise and delight of the Sweet Spot experience? Having your gelato served in a metal cup. It keeps the gelato nice and chilled...awesome. Sweet Spot has A LOT of flavors to choose from (Beeramisu) and everything is sourced locally which I totally dig. Will I return? Probably. This place sits in a 'weird middle' for me. If I want ice cream I'll go to Ohio City ice cream every time (over Sweet Moses), and if I need to scratch a gelato itch I'll shimmy over to Little Italy for the real deal.

Consistency is a bit different than previous gelatos I've tried (maybe the display cooler needs to be set colder) but nice, distinct flavors, and very friendly staff!

We love the sweet spot! We have been there three times since they opened a few weeks ago. Delicious, refreshing homemade gelato. The staff are very friendly and I love that they are completely happy to give you a sample of any and all of their flavors. My faves so far are cookies and milk, bailey's, chocolate peanut butter, coffee cookie, and the watermelon and cucumber sorbet (made from local ingredients!). They have quite a variety and also have a number of vegan flavors. Another nice plus is that they don't seem to use any disposable products whatsoever - all of the spoons are regular tableware and the dishes are washable plastic so you're not wasting disposable plastic! They have nice tables to enjoy your gelato and it is very accessible- right across from the beck center. There is plenty of street parking which is free after 6pm. All in all, a great new place to get gelato on the west side!

  • chris b.

live down the street and decided to give it a try. I'll say that I am not a big ice cream guy, but this is amazing. I have had gelato a lot of places. It's better because it's smoother than normal ice cream, it's made from milk instead of cream. It's not hard to make good gelato, but it's difficult to make excellent gelato. This stuff takes like it's homemade...not sure if it is or not. They have a lot of great flavors from peanut butter to earl gray tea. Try it, this place is great.
