Lately I've been going to Grand China in Hilliard for take-out, ever since the Asian Express place went 'off the reservation'; the extra drive time seems worth it to me. Items labeled spicy are just that (have pulled 4 red chilies out of my Szechuan Chicken just now as I eat); lots of assorted veggies in my dinner, which is a plus as other places are cutting back on what they put in a dish. Sauce is a bit on the sweet side. The hot & sour soup is as I expect it; peppery, bit of vinegar, lots to it. Modest wait for take-out orders; you can dine in too, but the dining room is kind of a dump. Prices are fairly standard (dinner chicken entree and soup cost me $9). Worth a look if you're in the area and need Chinese to go.

I would have to say hands down this is the best chinese food I have had since moving to Columbus, dont let the size of this place fool you! The food is always very hot and fresh and I love the hot and sour soup, crab rangoons and scechuan chicken and my wife loves the lowmein!

Going to stop going here because their quality of meat especially Chicken is poor The server is very rude. I think most people come from the DMV next door.

When I was busy and hungry, I use this restaurant for to go order because it is very convenient location for me. From my experience, their food tends to be sweeter than other Chinese restaurants'. I like their BBQ ribs, hot sour soup, and house special mei fun. ...but, I think they use too much MSG. Even though I'm not picky about MSG, I felt strong MSG aftereffect in my mouth after I had their food. I hope they could reduce MSG usage.

We have been going to Grand China for at least a decade. The current owners have maintained the same high quality that we came to love. For larger parties, they will bring you free donuts for dessert. Always ask for the hot tea instead of buying a cola. Our recommendation, try the General Tso Chicken or the Spicy Green Beans. The dinner portions are huge and easily shared between two people.

Good. Cheap. Chinese Food. This place isn't much of a looker but it certainly delivers in the food department. I tried it out the other day for lunch and was pleasantly surprised when my bill was under $5. I was even more pleasantly surprised when the food was good. Was it the best Chinese food in town? No. Not even the best in the vicinity. But it also cost half as much as some other places... I had the General Tso's which I found satisfying in that cheap Chinese food kind of way. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

I've liked everything I've tried, and I've tried a lot here. There was one dish that was a bit surprising. I can't recall the name. I order things randomly sometimes, and I expected this to be a normal Chinese-food dish. It ended up being a soupy concoction of mushrooms and onions; it was still tasty, just not what I expected. I judge a Chinese restaurant based on certain qualities. Here's where Grand China Stands. Is the restaurant clean?: Yes. Are the dishes nice and warm?: Yes. Is the rice sticky?: Yes. Does the fried rice have enough veggies?: No. Are the chicken pieces chewy?: No. Is the food bland?: No. Are the Rangoon dumplings adequately stuffed?: No. Are the fortune cookies crispy with a hint of vanilla?: Yes. Are the fortunes lame?: No. That's a 77% pass! I recommend any of the crispy chicken dishes or the veggie plates. The seafood is decent, but the scallops are rubbery, and, while the smaller shrimp are absolutely fine, the jumbo shrimp have a strange texture.

This is another unassuming-looking restaurant in a stripmall location. Inside, it is bright and clean but a little bit dull decor-wise. Similarly, the menu isn't going to win any awards for uniqueness nor creativity, offering the usual General Tso's/sweet and sour/Mongolian/garlic/cashew etc etc chicken/beef/pork/shrimp combinations. There are a few Thai dishes too. The food is decent, however, and $5 gets you a more than adequate lunch of soup (the egg drop isn't bad at all; the hot and sour is pretty meh), spring roll (crispy, flavorful, not at all greasy), steamed rice (fluffy) and entree. The restaurant has never been very busy when we've eaten there but the phone is usually ringing off the hook, with a steady stream of people picking up take-out. Service is excellent. Like I say, you aren't in for any surprises if you eat here, but you can be sure you'll be getting something hot, fresh, tasty, and extremely good value for your moneys.

I like to visit a place at least twice before putting in a Review. My husband works near this restaurant and has raved about it so I thought we would give it a try. We ordered take out both times so I cannot review the service while dining in. The take out service was excellent though. When I placed my order via phone the woman who took my information was friendly and willing to take time to answer my questions. My payment was processed quickly and she was very appreciative of my business. When I went to pick up my order on my second visit, she informed me right away that my order would be a few minutes. When everything was packed up, she added some free donuts and a Chinese calendar. Our first order was Egg Drop Soup, Crab Rangoon, Sesame Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Shrimp Cashew. We got some orders w/steamed rice and some with fried. The Egg Drop Soup was thick, rich, and very flavorful. The Crab Rangoon was some of the best I have ever tasted. Lots of crab flavor. The Sesame Beef came with two broccoli spears. It was a great flavor. The General Tso's also came with two broccoli spears and had a nice bite to it. Not too spicy, not too mild. Perfect for me. The breading was very light and the chicken was moist. The Shrimp Cashew was some of the best I have had. Generous portion of shrimp, vegetables that remained slightly crisp, and a nice honey ginger type sauce. Both rices were perfectly cooked. Our second order consisted of Egg Drop Soup and Crab Ragoon again. (We loved them that much.) Our entrees were Beef Chow Mein, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, and Orange Chicken. The Beef Chow Mein was really good. Very flavorful. Lots of veggies and beef. The Shrimp with Lobster Sauce was not as thick as some restaurants may serve. It was almost a soup. I poured it over white rice. Delicious. The Orange Chicken generally comes with two broccoli spears. I asked for extra broccoli and they complied. Nice flavor. Perfect bite of spice. Light breading and generous pieces. We really enjoyed this restaurant and will definitely go again. The only downside is I wished some of the dishes had more veggies, but they are willing to add more if you ask. I wish more rice came with the dishes. We ran out of rice before we finished the entrees. The restaurant itself is in a little strip mall and doesn't have much ambiance, but it is clean and servicable.

We had a large order for carry out. The girl that took our order repeated it back correctly. Nice touch that she cares. Food was ready when I arrived for pickup. The sesame chicken, sweet sour pork, happy family, and chicken lo mien were perfectly prepared, my spicy green beans was a little salty, just the chicken, the shrimp and beef are good. Egg rolls were crispy, and chicken soup was good. This is quickly becoming our go to Chinese food place. Good food in Hilliard.

Good white rice. I typically get the General's Tso's chicken and the pieces are crispy and the sauce is really good. I wish they'd give you more rice, the portion is a little small but for an extra 50 cents, you get the right amount. I've hit most of the quick Chinese in Hilliard and this place is my top choice.

Favorite Chinese place in all of Ohio. Food is amazing and prices are fair. Its family owned so everything on the menu has been perfected. And the service is great. My boyfriend and I eat here all the time, we are never disapointed. Get the crab rangoon!!

Another decent Chinese restaurant. In a strip mall, of course. The service was great, and the place is a little fancier than most. The lunch prices and portions were great. The crab rangoon was typical- good, not great. The pad thai was okay. Lots of noodles plenty of shrimp, wish there'd been a few more veggies, etc. And flavor- kinda bland. Still, I'm sure I'll be back.

This is just a quicky review. Went with the fam after church last Sunday. First Chinese food since our horrible visit to Joey Chang's. I had an eggroll. Fine. Normal. Not great...but exactly what I was expecting. David had steamed dumplings. Ate them up. Didn't complain. Husband enjoyed his egg drop soup. Now, really, almost a week later, I can't remember our entrees. Sorry. But, here's what I do remember: We all ate. We all liked it. We spent a ridiculously little amount of money. We were all much happier leaving than when we dined at the more "upscale" Joey Changs. We will go back.

This place was pretty good considering the portions and price. I came during lunch, so a meal under $5.00 included moo goo gai pan, rice, hot tea and a fortune cookie. I paid $1.00 extra for a bowl of egg drop soup, too. The soup was decent, the rice was OK, but I'm happy to say that the moo goo gai pan was the silver lining of the mediocre food. It had a lot of veggies and pretty developed flavor. I would definitely come back here for lunch on a very regular basis.

Once upon a time, i lived in Hilliard within a prison camp type apartment complex right behind the strip mall where Grand China resides. The restaurant was in easy walking distance, served up very tasty food at a decent price, and soon became my standby Chinese eatery. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that that was almost ten years ago and i haven't been back since. I don't crave Chinese cuisine very often these days. I vaguely remember some stir fried chicken dish that was sweet and hot and really hit the spot. I remember something a little more exotic that contained perhaps paddy straw mushrooms and was savory. I also remember the help being pleasant. Grand China's longevity attests to how it's been doing things right over the years. Maybe i'll stop in there for old time's sake sometime soon.

Sooo, this is a Chinese restaurant with a good section of the menu dedicated to Thai dishes. The service was great as you got your own pot of tea and everything came out pretty fast. The server even packed additional rice with my left over! Definitely an "A" for service. Honestly, I almost shot for 2 stars.... couple of picky things. Grand China communally use Jasmine rice (typically reserved for Thai dishes) for Chinese dishes. You can tell because Jasmine rice naturally has a nutty aroma, which can clash with traditional Chinese flavors. Also, they used flower pepper in the pork dish I got, which has great flavor, but you don't leave it in when you serve it.... not fun to eat. The service was a pleasant +1!

I am absolutely addicted to their steamed dumplins and minced chicken lettuce wraps! This is the best chinese takeout in hilliard. I only wish they delivered!

There is not much too say about this place other then they have lunch under $5 for decent Chinese Food. I ordered the Gai Pad Krang (Chicken)- a Thai dish that was suppose to be spicy. I bit into one Chili that was hot but the overall flavor lacked spice. The dish didn't have a ton of taste and the fried rice seemed a little greasy. The dish came with a decent amount of veggies but it had no wow factor. The lunch portion cost $4 and you can add an egg roll for $1.25. I also ate some crab ragoon which was ok but again not spectacular. They have a decent little dining area which sets it apart from the other local Chinese places. They also advertise a selection of Thai dishes. I would not drive past the other Chinese place just to get here but it is inexpensive.

Merely okay. I could actually taste the sour in the hot & sour soup, which was a pleasant change from many other places. For my main I had the Szechuan chicken. It was mildly spicy but not extraordinarily so, even though I requested extra, extra spicy. My main gripe, though, was that the sauce was far too sweet. It's almost like someone told them to add sugar to appeal to the American palate and they went overboard. The fried rice was disappointing as it was rather dry and flavorless. Considering the portion size and the price, it was a good value, but I don't think I'll be going back.

Is this gourmet food? No, and they do not claim to be. Is this Chinese food fresh and delicious? It sure is! Grand China is so affordable that I felt bad for not paying more! The food really is incredible! I had the General Tso's Chicken which was crispy with a little spicy kick! The sweet and sour shrimp was also great! The fried rice (veggie and beef) were tasty as well. They give you massive portions, we had left overs to take home! The staff is also very friendly, kind and quick! I will be back Grand China!

This is our go to quick meal restaurant. Good Quality food, Fast service whether we do pickup or have it delivered. We have not dined in the restaurant yet. I have tried quite a few of the dishes and have not been disappointed yet. My favorites are the Garlic Chicken and the Happy Family. I have also found that if I ask for it prepared a special way (either mild or extra sauce), they always prepare it the way i asked for it.

The General Tso's chicken was nearly the best I've had, and the fried rice was great too. The egg rolls were just ok...just "run of the mill." It's the best carryout Chinese I've had in the Hilliard area so far, so I will definitely be coming back.

This used to be a decent, small neighborhood Chinese joint; I've been eating there occasionally for over a decade. Sadly, the quality has declined as the years have gone by. I'm not sure if this is due to new management, new cooks,. or some other reason. Today's order was takeout. I ordered the Ma La Chicken, marked as a "House Special", but the quality was far from special. The dish was overcooked, including overdone small bits of dark-meat chicken, mushy broccoli, and green bell peppers that were a bit slimy and simply overpowered the rest of the dish. No balance, little flavor, and overcooked. One of my companions had chicken fried rice, which he described as "bland, but edible. I could have made it myself." Another had beef lo mein, which was "all right". The steamed dumplings seemed to have been the only food that was decent. The staff is friendly and even offered some fried donuts gratis with the meal. The prices are quite reasonable. But none of these are enough to convince me to return without some serious changes. I'm a repeat customer who will repeat no more. It's not that the food is bad; it just isn't *good*.

Theyre cheap, have lots of options, bold flavors, but a bit greasy. Their pot stickers are great (although the dough was a bit soggy), their general tso has a kick and is juicy with a thick sauce, their veggies are crisp and fresh, the pad thai (which i normally hate) is quite good w/ fresh shrimp and spicy (the shrimp are larger then ive seen in chinese cooking and not over cooked), their house special lo mein was above average and had tons of juicy meat & shrimp, not to mention that we got a free app sampler and free chinese donuts without asking. The sampler had 2 ribs, 2 egg rolls (greasy), 2 crab ragoons (greasy), 2 chicken teriaki (little dry but good), 2 chicken wings (juicy but fatty), and i think that was it. Overall it was good. Id go back for the general tso and dumplings for sure.

About what you would expect for Asian fare from a strip mall restaurant. We took advantage of their family dinner takeout, which is really a good deal: a combo appetizer, wonton soup, and a choice of entree for less than $10. The friendly staff even tossed in 12 donuts for dessert! The food was about what you would expect, your typical assortment of sauces, meats, and vegetables. The beef was pretty flavorless and in small quantities. The vegetables were cooked nicely though, with a nice crunch. My initial rating was 2 stars, but I upped it to 3 because of the value of the family meal and the friendly staff.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
