Great classic diner, and cheap. If I want a big greasy omelette, this is the only place to go. Never eaten lunch or dinner, but I'm pretty sure it's decent diner fare.

this is a review of the new aladdin restaurant which opened several months ago. i tried it once the first week, expensive and not memorable, a snack with a friend a week later, soup from gfs, iceburg lettuce and not much else and bottled dressing for the salad. finally just last week one more try, took my dad, his breakfast of two eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, toast and coffee plus one junior pancake totalled a whopping 12.04 plus tip......the price of one breakfast. typical of what goes on in granville. there are several much better friendlier estabishments only minutes away that do not insult the patron by emptying the wallet. it makes me so angry just thinking about the nerve of charging such outlandish prices. to sum it up dont bother.

What happened to the Merry Muffin?? We would order those by the dozen when I was in school. My beautiful wife and I were in Granville and excited to indulge in a couple of Merry Muffins and Merry Croissants at our favorite diner, Aladdin's. When the waitress asked "what is that?" I was floored. It is a shame that the Denidoo kids of today cannot enjoy what used to be the most popular item on the menu....Discontinued? Preposterous!! I promise if you brought back the Merry Muffin and Merry Croissant at least on the weekends your earnings would almost double.

Set on the main drag of Granville, Ohio. From the outside it does not look like much, but a greasy spoon-style joint. Opening the door you walk into an intimate elbow hitting arrangement of counter and table seating ( max ppl 63). Sit yourself down when a table or spot at the counter opens up. PPL this is a local place not ur run of the mill franchise. If ur looking for that get back on STRT 16 head east you will bob Evans about two miles on ur right. I had the western omelette and sour dough toast (grilled) it was amazing. I tried to convince myself I needed another order.

Food was good. Don't wear anything that you don't want to collect the airborne grease. You're going to smell like this place for awhile afterwards. But...it's a greasy spoon and doesn't pretend to be anything different. The reviewers that seem shocked by the atmosphere (literally) in this place must be quite sheltered. Don't expect service beyond what you need, have some good fried potatoes and go home and wash your hair.

Cheap breakfast spot. It is what it is. Nothing fancy, so wear casual clothing. This is a great spot to stop while you are uptown for the farmers market. Pick an empty spot when you walk in and enjoy a western omelet. My personal favorite!

I don't know I'm usually very picky so when I read the other reviews, I was surprised! Of course, we knew we weren't looking for healthy food! We had cheeseburgers and the hand cut fries!!! They were delicious and just the way I wanted it! My granddaughters had the smiley face pancake from the kids menu!! I could tell they were delicious when cutting up their pancakes! The waitress was very nice to the girls and took care of our special requests!! Had a pleasant experience!! People kept coming the whole time we were there!! Was it the best food ever, no, but the burgers were darn good!! The fries were just right!!!

7 WORDS: GREASY SPOON / CLEAN / 50s DECOR / CHEAP / DELICIOUS DECEMBER 11TH: A MILD BUT COLD MORNING Time for a road trip: we head east and ended up in Granville. We weren't sure if the Buxton was open for early lunch, so we headed into the City Center. When we reached Aladdin, we wondered if it was Middle Eastern Cuisine, but when we looked in, it was obviously a Greasy Spoon, so we decided to give it a try. I ordered the Monte Cristo and my breakfast companion ordered a standard eggs over easy, hash browns, and bacon breakfast. . Our orders came quick: within 5-6 minutes, so I'll appropriately start with the food.. . My Monte Cristo was "exactly what you'd expect" - but then again, it was really good. I don't know if I was hungry or not, but I quickly devoured my sandwich and chips (Ruffles Standard Deli/Restaurant Style). I snagged the waitress and ordered their version of the Fried Bologna Sandwich. I nearly inhaled it, too. . All three sandwiches were BETTER THAN Average. They were really good. - Sure, it's greasy spoon, but that seems like that would be easy to Give a bad yelp to - just to be pretentious. The total bill (three decent-sized sandwiches, two sodas: 19.50.. . Can you even beat that at Wendy's? I mean, honestly, if you're giving this two stars because it's bologna or fried egg sandwiches - you have to take it for what it is and measure it on that scale, too. That said, this is 4-Stars. Not the best, but definitely a place I'd come back to again and again and again if I lived in Granville and DIDN"T Want to eat in EVERY OHIO Restaurant before I die.. . As for the decor, it's pretty standard fare: black and white checkerboard floors, the old sparkly-red and chromed steel 50s-ear Soda Stand decor with a shotgun-style seating arrangement. The Grill is on the other side of the counter, so if that's going to bother you - go somewhere else. Your loss. / If you're into off-the-beaten path or quick/cheap/good grub, this place is DEFINITELY FOR YOU. And *THAT* is why I'm already a big fan. .

Stop off visiting family and wanted Sunday breakfast at a local eatery. Ordered a veggie omelette with hash browns and wheat toast. YUM!

This place is awesome...been going there for years....they have always done a great job...the BEST bacon possible...personable and efficient...lots of villagey character in the heart of. .. beautiful downtown Granville...highly recommend as this is a real, authentic find.

Great breakfast. Takes me back to simpler times. Small seating selection but that's what you get with some if the best dives .

We took my mother-in-law here for Mother's Day breakfast. The prices and portions were good, and everyone enjoyed the food. It might be worth noting that everyone in our party enjoys good unpretentious food. I think this may be a factor in some of the negative reviews.

Decent atmosphere for a greasy spoon diner but service lacking quite a bit on top of wait. Also crowded and loud. Food is what you would expect.

This place could be great... but it's on the lower-end of OK. The food is average so I'll just list what could be done to make eating here a better experience for the customers. 1) At the end of each day, wipe down the salt and pepper shakers, ketchup and mustard containers and everything else on the tables and counter that customers regularly pick up. It is clear this is never done. 2) Put a swinging door on the kitchen entrance. That's gross in there. 3) Mop the floors with grease-cutting solvent a couple times a day -- maybe one with a nice lemony smell. 4) Limit the times each hour employees working in the kitchen come into the dinning area. That's just nuts. 5) Connect with local farmers for your eggs, bacon, meat, fruit and veggies. We grow/raise it all in the area so why not use it? Owners, listen to the inner Gordon Ramsay in you. I want to love this place so dish out some tough love to yourselves and your staff. Then you'll be great!

This place serves breakfast and lunch all day. They serve sandwiches, omelettes, hotcakes, toast - very classic and traditional American cuisine. Their food has a lot of grease like what the other Yelp users said. The place itself has a dirty feeling. The floor feels greasy and tables aren't completely wiped down clean prior to seating new customers. Ingredients for the food they make are definitely mass-produced and processed, such as eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. The food is also hastily made. The quality of the food doesn't justify the prices here. Service is scatterbrained. Waiters don't check up on patrons (at least for my table). Not being a snobby New Yorker but being a normal diner, that's unprofessional for any restaurant establishment. Perhaps they're only like that to college kids, I don't know. Since there are only a few businesses in Granville, Aladdin is part of an oligopoly. No competition and nowhere else for Granville townies and Denison students to go which means that however shoddy the service and food are, they will still get business. And if they have good business, they have no incentive to improve.

Was terrible for breakfast today, it has always been terrible. I have never seen hash browns quite like mine today. They truly looked like pan scrapings. Toast wasn't buttered. Eggs were over cooked. Bacon fried to a crisp. To make it worse, I was over charged. I tried to explain it to the waitress but she was adamant about being right. So, I had a $12 breakfast that is normally $5. Some things just aren't worth spending the time to argue. I will regret the next time I am invited out for breakfast and my breakfast companions chose this dive.

I recently stopped in for my first visit for breakfast after a 10-mile run. I love diner breakfasts and this one did not disappoint. Huge portion sizes for the price and you can watch it being made while you wait at your table or at the counter. I will definitely visit this place again for breakfast.

What a disappointment. My family and I rode our bicycles from Alexandria to have a nice afternoon in Granville. We looked at the menus for a couple different places and decided the simplicity of Aladdin's menu appealed to us. The service was less than exemplary. We had to ask for straws, silverware and napkins. Whenever we wanted something we had to wave over a waitress as they never visited our table on their own. The food was okay. I had. Grilled chicken salad which consisted of bagged iceberg lettuce, chopped dry chicken and bottled Italian dressing. Not too thrilling. My fiancé had a chili dog and fries, it is what it is. My daughter had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and chips. In short, I could have made all of this stuff at home for pennies instead of paying twenty dollars to have it half heartedly served to me here.

Sometimes a "hole in the wall" has the best food in town. This is not one of those times. We went inside (there were 6 of us) on a Monday morning to find the place nearly deserted. We seated ourselves at large booth near the front, and a waitress took our drink and food orders. I had the vegetable and cheese omelette. It was terrible! It looked OK on the outside, but it was extremely runny on the inside. I picked at the omelette, eating the edible parts around the outside, but when I was finished, there was a big pile of vegetables sitting in a puddle of runny egg and runny cheese. The vegetables---or at least the mushrooms---tasted like canned vegetables. Someone else in my group had pancakes, and they looked all right, or at least not as greasy as everyone else's food. Our service was all right, but the revolting food tarnished my overall experience. P.S. What's with the name, Aladdin? This restaurant has nothing to do with Arabian food or culture.

Fond greasy memories... too bad they're closed! I recall eating here before I left Denison for winter break every year and those burgers have never let me down. Ladies and gentlemen, this is a diner so don't come in expecting 5 star service and food. If you are in the mood for a greasy spoon, this will hit the spot. The breakfasts here are the definition of grease and comfort. Nothing to soothe the soul after a 9:30 final than a heaping of eggs, sausage, grits. Overall, Aladdin, while not the finest eating establishment, holds a special place my heart. A new place will open, but it'll never be Aladdin. UPDATE: A new place did open and it was Aladdins again. Oops.

This is probably my favorite place in Granville. It has such a great diner feel to it and I have so many memories coming here while growing up. To the people complaining how it feels dirty going in It really isn't that bad.

Aladdin's"s is open again, and as they say "under new management". I was passing thru town last week and seeing that it was open again I stopped to see what has changed. Just ordered a grilled ham and cheese. Very good and the wait service was very friendly. It is just to place NOT to be seen in Granville. Just ask any one of the pretentious sidewalk diner's.

True. The old Aladdin Restaurant closed on New Year's Eve 2010, but has since reopened in March 2011 as The Aladdin Diner under new ownership, new and improved food, and new and much improved decor. Please see reviews for The Aladdin Diner not to be confused with the reviews on this page for Aladdin Restaurant

If you're looking for classic, greasy spoon, guilty pleasure American food, this is the place to get it. Come starving, then expect to be full for a while as this is heavy food, that will hit the spot, then stick around for a while. I came here once a year after getting my Christmas tree for quite a few years, and will miss it now that I need to find a new farm to do business with. Bottom line is, this is a classic, GREASY spoon diner, so don't come expecting anything else, and you will enjoy yourself.

Aladdin is the ultimate greasy-spoon...emphasis on the greasy. If you're looking for a restaurant that will serve you a plateful of grease, fat, and salt, then Aladdin might be the perfect place for you. However, if you're looking for food that tastes like something other than grease and salt, I would advise strongly against it. I have eaten there four times, and every time I have felt extremely ill for a few hours after eating. The place just feels dirty on the inside; the booths are small and often sticky and the lighting is dim in a way that is not at all romantic. While I usually enjoy being able to see the cook making the food, watching the Aladdin chef frying everything on the same greasy, blackened skillet always makes me remember why I try to avoid it. There is a huge pile of bacon sitting on the counter that shines with grease in what little light there is. They even make the toast greasy and gross by using a huge barbecue brush to slop salty margarine onto the defenseless piece of mediocre bread. Yuck yuck yuck! In short: Aladdin is greasy, salty, dingy, and is likely to make you feel sick to your stomach. Unless you are extremely hungry and have absolutely no other option (which happens more often than it should in Granville) I would suggest avoiding Aladdin at all cost. ALADDIN RESTAURANT: IT'S JUST GROSS.
