If I wasn't temporarily working close, I never would have stopped in Southside family restaurant and I wouldn't have missed too much. The specials are cheap but are lackluster. The food, while not bad, is unremarkable in any way, shape, or form. The service is dependent on the waitstaff who usually are busy talking to each other rather than taking care of customers. With so many choices available in the area, don't waste your time on this place.

I ate breakfast here a few weeks ago. We got the sausage gravy and biscuits, french toast, and a breakfast platter. Overall the food was pretty good and reasonably priced. They overcooked the scrambled eggs and even though the sausage gravy was good we did see on the way out all these huge cans of food... including sausage gravy. So the food is not all home made which made me feel a little cheated.

I really like this local, small establishment. This place is perfect for Breakfast food at breakfast or for lunch. I entered the door and asked if they are still serving breakfast at 1 pm and she confirmed they were. My whole family was joyous as we all ordered breakfast food. 3 Western omelets, 2 Biscuits & Gravy, 2 sides of Hash brown casserole, and 2 coffees please. Yes, we are family so we tend to like to order the same thing, also I had a waffle for breakfast so I wanted something hearty with sweets included. This cost us the total of about $34 which is pretty good price for 5 people. Good cheap deals with solid, not overly mouthwatering, but satisfying food. I am from out of town so this place has fallen in to a possible return for Breakfast because the Biscuits and Gravy was a huge portion and with plenty of sausage. It was not drenched in salt like some places try to do to make it tasty. I won't say it is the best Sausage & gravy but better then Bob Evans by far. The eggs were freshly cooked without any rubbery texture. The Hash brown Casserole was ok as I am not a huge fan of potatoes. My sister and wife liked it. The coffee is old people's coffee (Folgers) but it is only .99 so I didn't feel like I wasted money after 3-4 cups. Service was friendly and very quick. She actually cracked me up. This place is probably geared to an older crowd but I would try it again. My whole Family was doubting me when we pulled up because it looks like a house and the inside is antiquated. I would recommend going up and looking at the salad bar before ordering as it was minimal amount of toppings and not worth getting. This place is the epitome of little local Midwestern eateries so don't expect greatness but expect solid food. I am glad they don't over-salt like too many little eateries tend to do to overcompensate blandness of American comfort food.

**LOCAL BUSINESS** This establishment is so far south of town, I forget of its existence. It's quite easy to access though, as it is the last building on the right heading southbound on 68 (aka South Main Street). Its previous incarnations were Cliff's Country Cooking, the Wagon Wheel and Misamore's many moons before that. However, I can only say I've heard about the last second hand. The atmosphere is in the same vein as other Midwestern, rural eateries that were around here before the population buildup of the 1990's, such as Straley's (currently Chef Bart's), Rose Villa, the Pilgrim, and even the Woodland to some extent. It appears one of the waitresses from the Woodland took up employment here after it shut down. I miss that place, but I digress. The food is OK. I had the "Country Bumpkin" (snicker) breakfast, but didn't find it anything spectacular. One of my pancakes was a bit burnt and the rest wasn't much to write home about. Don't get me wrong. I did have a decent time, but it's not a killer breakfast. They do have lunch and dinner offerings with a salad/soup bar in the far corner of the building, but I'm definitely a breakfast person in this light.

Daily special on Thursdays at $1 tacos. Really pretty good. Better than Taco Bell Supremes. But can't get past the interior, rather old you wonder if is clean. I was there around 5:30 and there were a number of full tables. Close to highway and easy to get to for a quick bite.
