Great food, terrible service. Forgot about our appetizers, slow to refill drinks, never asked me if I wanted another beer, and the best part is when he told us he would go check on our food, my date passed him standing by the restrooms texting. Completely rude, you are at work, focus on your job and you won't be so terrible at it. I can't even remember his name, but he did have an anchor tattoo on his right forearm. If you get that server, expect no service.

I know there is a bunch of hype surrounding this new place and I was the first to want in on it! I was hoping it would be the best place in town... Unfortunately I don't believe that after eating there three times lol. Kept trying to find a burger I really liked but just wasn't too impressed. Had to send the burger back because it was too salty the first go round and the waiter says to me"oh, we've had this same complaint a few times already tonight" well then why are you still serving the same salty meat? LOL!!! Um, sorry but. What the heck. After this experience, I felt like giving it another chance. I really wanted to like it. Still wasn't impressed with the burgers, fries or the portions of the appetizers. I have been to the original Thurman's and had a great time before too so I kind of knew what to compare it to. I will say, The Carolina gold wings are definitely worth trying...but were better and Hotter (temp wise) the first time I ordered them. Inconsistent!

Arrived at 15 before opening on a Sunday morning. Stood outside in a line for it to open. Once inside waited another 20-25 minutes because they didn't want to overwhelm their staff. Once seated, our server, Caitlin, came by and was AWESOMELY fabulous!! Atmosphere is definitely not the same as GV. Burgers were still great. Greatly disappointed that they didn't have the sloppy fries. Overall, from the time we arrived and stood outside to cashing out, we were there for two hours. Considering the wait to get seated at Thurman's Cafe in GV is sometimes two hours, Son of Thurman's was a good alternative. Would have been even better if they had sloppy fries!

Since I have been to the original Thurman's I was happy to find out one would be closer to my place. So the Wife and I decided to give it a chance on 6/10. Once we walked in first thing we noticed is the size of the place. Its more then double the size of the original. Noticing the dining room was almost full we decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender Max was friendly and quick to get our drinks. After attempting to decide on food. We ordered the Pickle Chips to buy us some time to decide on dinner. I ordered the Thurmandelphia and Wife ordered Blue Cheese Burger. The pickle came out crisp and hot. The Blue Burger came out perfectly cooked the way requested and tasted great. The Thurmandelphia is twice the size of the burgers for a couple dollars less. My trip to Son of Thurman was just as good as the original. Yes the prices are a little bit higher but not having to deal with the traffic mess in German Village this is a huge plus for me. I will be returning to Son of Thurman.

A nice surprise in Del Co! Discovered deep fried pepperoni for the first time here! The atmosphere is very similar to the German Village's Thurman's. Menu is very similar too! There's the 'Thurmanator', the classic hot wings, and plenty of nice cold beers on tap. Friendly bartenders, great atmosphere, consistent food. You can't go wrong.

Been meaning to get into this place ever since we moved to Ohio and when a friend told me about this location and the odds of getting in being greater than the original - had to scratch it off my bucket list. It was raining like crazy and we came in hoping maybe the rain had kept folks at home on that Saturday afternoon - no such luck. Our wait for a table would've been 20mins or so but there was a spot at the bar so we went for it. The bartender while overworked was attentive enough but the wait for our food? Sheesh! Now was this indicative of Thurman's or was it because it was elbow to elbow in there with people...I don't know. When our food finally came (we ordered the bacon burger and the pacer burger with some slaw) those things were HUGE! They were pretty tasty but they were over cooked to my liking and the bottom of my bun was cold while the top was warm. Huh??? And we shouldn't have ordered the slaw; wasn't feeling it, not all that tasty. But the fries and chips were great. We were pretty hungry having skipped breakfast so we pretty much ate all of our burgers but plenty of folks were taking half of theirs home in boxes. Our bill for two big burgers, a slaw and two Cokes was around $36.00. A bit much perhaps for burgers but I had to try the place. It's probably going to be a one and done though.

The food is delicious and the portions are huge. The facility has two sides - a bar area and a more family friendly side. You can also eat outside on the patio when it is nice out.

I've never really been a fan of this place as the food isn't anything special and the service is usually (not always) terrible. BUT, they recently kicked one of my friends and her service dog out because she wasn't blind. Apparently they believe that is the only reason someone would need a service dog. The restaurant was empty, the dog was laying down, no reason to treat someone with ANY disability that way. My family will never step foot in this place again.

Ok I've eaten at Thurmans Cafe like some five years ago and had to wait two and a half hours before we got a seat. Soo yes I had high expectations when I came here for lunch on Monday. I thought this day was probably my best shot to get a coveted table here. I went here with one of my best friends and we were able to just walk in and get a booth with no problem. It was prime lunchtime too so I'm guessing it's because it was Monday. This place is much like the original and has dollar bills all over the place. Our server was pretty good but she never once offered up what her name was. I'm kinda freaky about stuff like that I want to know who my server is. Anyhow since I'm making stuffed peppers for dinner I opt out of having any ground beef and decide on the Italian sub with kettle potato chips. My friend gets the fish sandwich with French fries. We get our order in a timely manner but after my first potato chip I regret that I didn't upgrade to the French fries. Man oh man their chips took chunks out of the roof of my mouth they are that hard and I love kettle potato chips. Yikes beware on the other hand my friend shared her fries with me and they were very tasty. I'd give more stars but my chips sucked. I loved my sub it was crazy big and I only could eat half and it was super tasty but the cops were yuck. I'd go back but I'd never get the chips again fo sho!

We stopped by on Sunday afternoon. The weather was nice, there were people seated on the patio and we found a parking space right out front, perfect! This was my first visit to either the original Thurman's or the new "Son of" and I finally understand why these places are so popular. Their burgers are as big as my fist! After being seated and placing a drink order, I watched a waiter carry a burger over to a table and I think he limped away with a sports hernia. It totally looked more like a small meatloaf between two buns than a regular hamburger. Five minutes later I saw a waitress dragging an even bigger plate over to a different customer...It took me a while, but I finally figured out that the wait staff here is in training for the next Olympic Decathlon. Even with this knowledge, I went ahead and ordered the Thurmanator, if only to say that yes, I once tried to digest that much food in one sitting. When our waitress wheeled over my plate and had it lifted/placed in front of me, I swear that visions of the old Flintstones cartoon whirled through my head and I started worrying about the steadiness of our table. Needless to say, my wife had to help me eat this burger and when all was said and done, we were able to actually walk out of the place on our own power. Before we head this way again, we will make sure we've not eaten anything for at least two full days and only then will we venture back into this restaurant to try a few other selections from their menu. We did have an enjoyable time and really look forward to seeing the wait staff compete in the next Olympic games. GO USA!

Sometimes the apple falls a little too far from the tree. Visited SOT for lunch on a Monday. There was no wait and the hostess (who also ended up our server) was very hospitable. Drinks were served promptly and I really enjoyed the decor. It had a dive bar, hole-in-the-wall feel to it, but with nice touches to the bar and seating area. For an appetizer we ordered cheese sticks, which were fine because they were pre-packaged, frozen and fried. Served with the usual marinara sauce. For entrées, BF and I went with burgers because we were hoping for the original Thurman Cafe quality. What we received was vastly different. I ordered the Mushroom Burger and BF the Son of a Bacon burger. Both of us ordered medium rare burgers but was told by our server that medium was the best they could do. The burgers were served in a decent time frame and they were gargantuan. But the size of the burgers is where the "wow" factor ended. The mushrooms on my burger were so obviously heated up, canned mushrooms that their gray, limp, tasteless appearance made the burger inedible. The bottom bun was heaped with so much watered down mayo and packaged shredded lettuce that the bread was too soggy to eat. The burger itself was dry and over cooked. Not an ounce of seasoning was added to the over-sized patty. My BF also said his bacon burger was way too big and felt gimmicky. He said he liked the fries he ordered with his burger but if it hadn't been for the cheese and bacon on his burger, the rest was bland and under seasoned. If you're going to associate yourself with an icon like The Thurman Cafe, at least come close to it's standards. In the meantime, I'll be across the street at the Hamburger Inn Diner.

If you place a carry out order, multiply the estimated time by two. However, the burger was huge, and delicious.

Good beer choices (but hopsters is next door for the real deal) you're here for the burgers. Big. Juicy, cooked to your liking (if you don't want less than medium) and some served with surprisingly good hand cut, skin on fries. I can't see a bad thing here. Food is well priced. Menu is not extensive but it's exactly what you expect. A wide variety of burgers. A normal bar sort of pizza menu and a varying degree of insanity when it comes to heat on the chicken wings. Service was good. Friendly enough. Free wifi for the solo visitor....happy,

It wasn't all that. Might go back and sit in the bar and have their fried pretzel bites and a beer but that's it. If we want a REAL FANTASTIC burger well just go across the street to Hamburger Inn and pay HALF the price for a FAR superior burger. In my opinion, you shouldn't make people wait 25 minutes to order their entrees then charge $12.99 for a way too big, mediocre burger. We are extremely easy going people so for us to get frustrated with the service means it was bad. NO good review from us! I don't know, maybe have more than 2 servers working the entire place. Seems very disorganized. The manager actually finally came over to take our entree order after we already waited 10 min. to order drinks and pretzel bites. The bites arrived at our table before we even ordered our food! Terrible, terrible service! I'm a long time server, I know good service!

Next time I want a Thurman burger, I'll make the trek to German Village. This place was overpriced, mediocre, and had bad service. We went in for a late lunch one weekend. It was like pulling teeth to get the server to pay attention to us, and we were one of two tables in the entire restaurant. My burger was so-so, overcooked, and pretty flavorless. The atmosphere inside was dark and dingy. Also, on a separate occasion I tried to order take-out and was told (quite rudely) that they only offer take-out on Mondays. I don't really get it? Is it a special? You either offer take-out, or you don't. Nevertheless, I will not be returning or recommending.

  • Matt W.

This place was overpriced and not very good. Our server was clueless on how to wait on a table with children and rarely visited us. Food took about 40 minutes to be prepared and I gave them the benefit of the doubt until it was fucking terrible. I won't be back to this place. Just not worth the wait or the money.

Got here at 8pm, didn't see a server until 8:15, ordered immediately. Appetizers and burgers. It's 8:50pm right now and we haven't received anything. The place is 70% empty. I'll update when we at least get our appetizer. BTW we've yet to be checked on, or apologized to. Great job guys. Great job. 9pm, still no food. Been sitting in this chair for an hour. 9:08 appetizers arrived. 9:13.....we have food. Final update. Right as the alarm I set on my phone that said "we've been here an hour" (9pm) went off we finally saw our server for the first time since he took our orders. Said the order never made it from his computer to the kitchen. He just now noticed and would he putting in our order right now. He said we'd get the apps free and half off the burgers. We ended up only getting half off apps and half off burgers so NOT what we were told. Place is a Shhhhhsss show. Beware.

Not ideal for family's, been here three times in Delaware each with unique service not horrible but not good. Hamburgers overcooked and dry, $2.25 for a kids drink? 50 cents for miracle whip? Not worth going when you have smash burger and five guys down the road.

Some of the food is okay. Wings and flatbreads are good. Everything else is just obscene portions of greasy crap. What's really bad is the atmosphere and staff. I've read reviews on here about having to wait and not a single employee looks busy. This is 100% true. They sit and chat and text. They also SIT DOWN AND EAT AT THE BAR. Its a small bar with maybe twenty seats and three workers sat down and had a meal. One was even my bartender. So many better places to eat in delaware.

I loved Thurman's when living in Columbus. I spoke of it as the "best burger" I have ever had. My Thurman experiences were pre-marriage, so I was excited for my wife to try this legendary burger. We were staying with friends who have two small children, so the German Village location was out. My friend suggested Son of Thurman as a great option! We were excited. Last Monday evening, my friend called to gauge the potential wait of the evening so we might prepare. The female on the line actually informed him that we could make a reservation. What a wonderful surprise! Reservation made for 6:15pm, party of 6. Upon arriving, just a few minutes after 6:15, we informed the hostess that we had a reservation. She stated that they did not take reservations for less than 8, that the wait would be around 25 minutes. My friend requested a manager, but she said we could have the party booth. (For a brief moment, we were led into the dining room for a table that had just opened, but it was given to another party-back to the party booth!) Once seated at the party booth, our server (Max-according to the receipt), said we could't sit there with a party of less than 8. My friend stated that we were seated there. Max ran back and forth a couple times, eventually coming back to take drink orders. He was clearly displeased with the arrangement, making several comments like "yeah, I heard you," when asking for clarification about an additional water. We also sat without utensils until after an appetizer (fried-pickle spears) was delivered, then eating on napkins while no small plates were delivered. (Utensils were requested from more than one employee.) We ordered 3 Thurman burgers and 1 Son of Bacon burger (& a small burger for one of the children). 3 of the 4 burgers were ordered "medium," the last the standard "med-well." Burgers: The burgers are tremendously large. My wife and I should have shared one, because we each only finished half. All 4 burgers were well-done. Sadly, my enjoyment of the burger was well below what I remember. I acknowledge that perhaps my memory of the burger is different from when I last had it nearly 8 years ago, or that I have had many great burgers in that time. I'm going to blame it on being overcooked, which resulted in a slightly dry burger. (The potential was definitely there.) To end on a positive note, Max's attitude seemed to improve near the end of our meal. The hostess was also very friendly in all interactions. 3 stars for potential of the burger I remember, but less for the service.

No wait to get a table at 6:00 PM on a Wednesday (packed when we left). Restaurant is something to see with hundreds of dollar bills pasted to the walls, etc. Each with an inscription by a prior patron. Charged us happy hour price for beer and wine even though it was a bit after six when we ordered. How the heck do they cook 3/4 lbs of meat so perfectly? Fries were also delicious. We took home half of both burgers we ordered. Waitress was great. $38 tax and tip included for two large burgers, fries a beer and a glass of wine. I'd say it rates five stars!

Loved the pepperoni fried chips and we ate the whole basket. Liked my HUGE burger with chips. Prices are good for the quantity and quality of the food we received. Throw away the top bun and eat the rest with a knife and fork unless you have a mouth the size of a hippo.

Our first visit as we kept reading and hearing about how long the wait is and how slow the service is. Arrived at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. They told us there would be a 20 minute wait for the dining room (it was not full) so we went to the bar. Bartender had the whole bar, service bar and a party of 12 people. I overheard her say how understaffed they were, but we can be patient. The person washing the bar glasses never turned their back to say hello when we sat down. Took 10 minutes for the bartender to say hello. Waited over an hour for a burger and a sub. Not once did anyone stop by to apologize for the long wait or even look like they cared. In fact no one even looked busy! No sense of urgency whatsoever. Servers and someone that looked like they may have been a manager walked around like there was nothing going on. I manged Cooker Restaurants for 15 years and can tell you that because of that I am a little spoiled - service is just not the same anymore and that is sad. Too bad as Delaware needs a place like this. Food was ok. Both sandwiches were very greasy, Fries were hot and fresh. Won't go back until we know that someone has gotten a handle on customer service and ticket times. An hour is ridiculous no matter how big the burgers are.

Went on a Friday, after the lunch rush, about 1:30 during March Madness. Walked in and sat right down at the bar. Bartender was friendly and took my order for an iced tea. Not busy, many open tables and no wait for those wishing to be seated. I made my decision from the menu prior to receiving my drink and promptly ordered the Jack Burger and a side of cole slaw. I waited..... And waited.....and waited for my food to arrive. Just shy of an hour after ordering, my food arrived. Burger was good, with a crispy char on it, but a bit dry, the accompanying chips were basic potato chips- nothing special, and their home made cole slaw was acceptable and very coarsely chopped. All in all, an acceptable lunch. But at nearly $18 for lunch, without tip, I think I'll go across the street to my old stand-by next time, eat for less than half that and get fresh hot fries and dessert to boot in a third of the time.

Loved the original after a few visits several years ago. This one lacks. Atmosphere leaves alot to be desired. Food is just eh. Not a fan of meat wads on a bun. Would love to have a downsized version available....1/4 lb of meat is plenty. We also ordered the buffalo pizza...and I cannot recommend.

Because everyone needs a gigantic burger...not. Anyway that's not why I'm giving a two star. It was bland and the French fries were undercooked.

Son of Thurman is owned and operated by the grandson of the founder of Columbus's famous Thurman Cafe. The food was delicious and just like the offerings at the original. Cozy and friendly atmosphere, nice bar and a super staff.

This is actually 3.5 stars I dropped a half star for parking. I ordered a Thurman burger and it was awesome. Great flavor and enough toppings for 2 sandwiches. I will certainly return to try the other items but rest assured the Thurman burger is worth the gourmet price.

  • Nicole F.

Son of Thurman does not disappoint! It's got the same menu as its parent company, Thurman's, in German Village, and it's got the same reliable taste and giant burgers (really, giant everything!). I've had everything on the menu from burgers to sandwiches, fish to pizza, apps and entrees.. really just about everything except dessert, because there's never room! You are FULL when you leave. Son of Thurman is new to the Delaware community, so there may still be a bit of a wait on a Friday or Saturday night, but that's ok. Just put your name in, give the hostess your cell phone number and take a walk around beautiful downtown Delaware and wait for your phone call. Also, the burgers are prepared and made fresh for EVERY order. It will take about 20 minutes for a burger to cook. It's a pound of meat people, give it time. Let them do their artistry. It will be delicious. Patience, pet, you can do it. :) Order some fried pickle chips or pepperoni bites in the mean time. DO NOT order the wings as an "appetizer" these are the full wing of a chicken -- upper and lower. I mean if you're going to share an order with 6 people, sure it's a good thing to do as an app, but if it's just for you.. you'll be full before your entree even makes its way out. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I ordered their pizza. I got a meat-lovers version and this thing was PACKED with toppings. They're thin crust, and they do not skimp on the toppings. I have nothing bad to say about Son of Thurman. I'm so happy they're in the Big D. Make the trip, eat the food, enjoy the experience. Pin a dollar on the wall and say you were there.

I decided to give Son of Thurman another chance, thinking it might be better than the first time I visited right after they opened. But once again, the deluxe burger just failed to impress. The meat isn't seasoned (??), the prices are high and service was slow. Go across the street if you want a good burger in downtown Delaware.

Came in from out of town to see this place. Walked in and immediately thought it was going to be a cool experience. Hostess sat out party of 5 at a booth, we all started to look at the menu. This was about 1:30pm. Waiter walks up 20 minutes later and said "sorry I am slow". We all ignore his smart ass comment and continue to order drinks and our meal. 2:32pm the hostess comes out with our food. We had to ask for it to go because we were heading to the airport. Not only was the food out extremely slow but we were never checked on. No refills, no updates.... Thank god we checked the boxes before we left because our order was wrong. Worst experience I have had in a long time. And to top this experience the rude waiter yelled "yall are awesome" throughout the restaurant as we were leaving. It took everything in us not to turn around and tell back. My family and myself will never be back. Horrible horrible horrible.

Our server Morgan was cool. The burgers were HUGE!!! We got to try 'Not your fathers root beer' and we liked it. We will go again for sure.

Tried this place on a recommendation. Food was pretty good, service could be better. As long as you're not on a tight schedule I'd say check it out at least once.

So, here's the deal - if it has "Thurman" in the name, expect a wait, a VERY LONG wait. If you go in with that mindset, you can have a great time at SoT (ha ha ha) and really enjoy the food. We hit SoT up on a Saturday night, so we expected the two and a half hour wait for a table. We were there with friends and expected to make a whole night of it, enjoying the company, etc. SoT's setup works well for the long wait. They have a very large bar area (yes, you can order the full menu at the bar). One gripe - for such a large bar in this day and age, I expected more on tap selection. We managed to get some barstools and ordered our appetizers at the bar. I went for the pepperoni bites, which are nothing more than deep-fried pepperoni . . no breading (totally Atkins friendly). Man were those crispy, crunchy pepperoni discs delightful. Everyone truly enjoyed (even the "vegetarian" in the group took a nibble for taste!) We finally got a table after the expected wait. Our service was fantastic, but the wait for the food was very long. While the Thurman burger was awesome, it seemed just a slight notch below the original down in GV (maybe with time the grill will get more seasoned). Everyone enjoyed the food and the owner came around to make sure that everything was satisfactory. Mr. SoT himself is clearly into the traditions and history of Thurman's and his family's role in that hamburger icon. The traditions continue at SoT, with the family photos on the wall, the dollar bills . . .and the new tradition of the wondering sneakers (you'll have to ask him about it). So, if you're geared up for the wait, you will thoroughly enjoy SoT as we did. If you have no patience, you'll miss out.

We went on a Saturday night and there was an hour wait. Not a big deal, we walked around downtown and then came back and got our seat. My wife and I both ordered the Jack burger. I have never been to the original Thurmons restaurant so I don't have that as a comparison, but the burger was pretty good. I have to say, with all the hype, I was expecting a better flavor to the burger and a better taste. The burger was large and overcooked on the bottom (strangely they didn't ask how we would like our burger cooked), but I don't feel it was even near the top 5 of burgers I have had before. The fries with my meal were high quality. I was disappointed with a couple things. First off, fries should be included with every meal. Half the meals included them, others didn't and there was no rhyme or reason for this. It just felt cheap of them to try and get you to pay up for fries. The second thing is, when I order a hamburger, it shouldn't take 55 minutes to get my food. You aren't inventing the wheel, you are making a hamburger. The fact that we didn't hear from the waitress for the entire wait leads me to believe this is considered a "normal" wait at this place. Anyways, good value for the money, great fries, but overall, save your money and go across the street to the Hamburger Inn for a burger comparable in value and taste for half the price and 1/4 the waiting time.

BURGERS AND WINGS. Thurman burger- delicious! and loaded to the max, this is a knife and for burger unless you like to get dirty. Onion rings- so crispy so good Wings- you can't split wings to be tossed in 2 different sauces but you can get sauces on the side

This review is for my 2nd visit here. First visit was really good service-wise but the burger I had was smothered in what they said was mayo but was really foul tasting. Scraped it off and ate the rest of it. The most recent visit we were seated immediately. The waitress however was nowhere to be found. The seating hostess came over several times to check on us and say that she would be with us shortly. We each got burgers that were hot, fresh, juicy, and huge!! I got the mushroom burger with no mayo. Did not realize i could get A1 on it so will request this next time. Onion straws were delish. Got 2 spots of the scrumptious sauce on my shirt. May even get extra sauce to put on my burger, also.

Frequent readers of my reviews know I'm on a mission to visit every bar, grill, pub and restaurant in the quaint, little city of Delaware. I love the ambiance of this town which I've found to be full of friendly people and so far great food! The food culture here, albeit small, rivals any city in Ohio including Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. Son of Thurman (SOT) reminds me of many of the spots I grew up with. A fun, divey atmosphere with lots and lots of people and HUGE tasty burgers. So when my partner in crime and I stopped in on an early Friday evening, we were greeted with a slight wait (not the norm I'm told) and were seated promptly. After perusing the menu we decided to try some of their monstrous burgers which are advertised as "Fresh, Hand-made, and 3/4 Pound"! I ordered "The Son Of A Bacon Burger", which features "a fist full of bacon", (their words), provolone, lettuce, tomato and onion served with chips. The burger was huge and maybe just a tad dry, but I ate every darn bite! My partner in crime ordered "The Johnny Burger", which featured bleu cheese, bacon, horseradish cheese and a splash of tequila served with an order of very tasty "Thurman Fries". Again, the burger was huge and made a nice lunch for her the following day. They also have a very cool "Johnny's Option" which pairs with the burger. It's a "sidecar" shot of 1800 tequila. Yes, rather cool indeed AND not to feel outdone, gave me a perfect excuse to accompany my burger with a smooth shot of Jameson .. All is good in the world! I would say that besides the very good burgers, the fun atmosphere and the tugging of my memory strings, I would really recommend SOT to anyone living here or coming into town. Is it the best burger joint in Columbus area? No, B-Spot holds that honor .. but for a bar with a very good burger and plenty of fun times .. It's the best in Delaware ...so far ;)

I too was curious after seeing the Man vs Food show so a few years ago my wife and I went to the original and it was the Best burger ever. So my brother came in from Texas and we took him to Son of Thurman's, so of course I was bragging how good the burgers were and he is a burger lover. Service was good, twenty minute wait, burgers came out and total disappointment they were dry as the Sahara! I was embarrassed after bragging about how good they were. Haven't been back since! The original one here I come!

After I posted my review, I received a really angry message here on Yelp! from the server/manager that waited on us. I think her name was Leslie, but I'm not positive. The message was in all CAPS. Literally will never be back.

Taste Great-Terrible service. Decided to give SOT a second visit last night, after our first was during the first month of opening and we thought service issues were because it was new. As always, the Hostesses were friendly and very hospitable. It was prime time, so understood a 40 minute wait and happily grabbed a cold drink at the bar. Bartenders were very attentive and friendly. Very relaxing and fun. We received a great table in their dining room that is high energy and you will love the dollar bills with great comments written on them. Our waitress was super nice and greeted us promptly. We were all so hungry and excited to get one of their delicious burgers. We ordered two appetizers and four burgers. Then we received appetizers and then proceeded to wait 1 hr with no food. The waitress finally came back, after 45 minutes and apologized that it was a computer glitch, but by that time, we watched multiple tables come and go, and we were exhausted and frustrated. The burgers finally arrived, and yes they are big, and yes they tasted amazing, but the poor service just takes all the wind out of your sails!!!!!! For us, paying $12-15 for a burger is not worth a 2.5 hr adventure. Decide for yourself, but experience is nothing like the original downtown.

It was recommended to us maybe for beer but not for the food. We were not able to eat our expensive and as described 'famous' hamburgers. I still do not think that it was 100% beef maybe meatloaf!

Son of Thurman is SO much better than Thurman's in German Village. Son's is larger, cleaner, friendlier staff, faster service and not nearly as crowded and busy. Son's is just a totally different (better!) experience than the 'original' but with the added bonus of the still great food. We got the jalapeno bottecaps for an app which we loved because it packed a little bit of heat and was something different. The burgers were huge! And as always, very tasty. I love a good burger and beer place, and this is it. We'll definitely be stopping in again on our way through town. I was honestly relieved that it was nothing like the original Thurman's, and was hesitant to try it, but I'm glad that we did!

A very good American burger! I was hungry and just happened to be at the stop light and smelled the aroma coming from this restaurant so I decide to pull over and stop in. I am so glad I did! The food was excellent! I got a burger with mushrooms, bacon, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise with toasted bread. My burger was so delicious my only complaint is that I asked for the junior burger to be substituted for their normal 3/4 pound burger but apparently the kitchen did not get the memo. Let me just say that their french fries are awesome, awesome, awesome! They were salted perfectly and they were thick so they stayed warm and crisp. I ate them all. I was very happy I stopped in and I would highly recommend anyone who's in this area and looking for a great burger and fries joint. This is your spot, you must go - also the wait staff was great and I like the atmosphere very friendly and fun!

The original Thurman's is divey and tiny and makes one hell of a burger. Part of its appeal is the long wait. Now to sonofa (as I call it) bigger, large bar, same awesome food. If you've ever looked up in Thurman's and noticed all the caked on grease, dust and cigarette residue you will be grateful for a location that feels pristine. At least my inner-clean freak is. We arrived on a chilly sun 15 min before open. We were the 5th party in line and they opened the doors we skipped ahead to bar seating. They were holding seating a little to not slam the kitchen. We placed a carry out order (they are taking these on a limited basis) so we ordered a couple beers for our short wait. I may been freezing outside but was happy to have my first summer shandy of the season. Ordered the: Bleu burger with added mushrooms The garden burger (this isn't vegetarian) The Thurman burger Onion straws All were happy and 2 split the Bleu burger and were more than full. Even the kiddie burger is 5oz. This a great addition for Delaware and what has been for many years a declining downtown. Hamburger Inn even had a facelift and is getting overflow. If you aren't up for the wait, don't do it. But I believe it is worth it.

Great spot! Their pizza has more flavor than it looks like. Super thin crust but whoa, does it have a lot of flavor. For being so thin!! And they have dollar bills on the beams of their bar & a few walls. Love it. Cocktails are boss status too. Nice.

Been here a number number of times over the summer. Sometimes just by myself, sometimes with large groups. Each time has been excellent service and great food. The one time I did not like an appetizer the server offered up a replacement without my asking. I usually never send anything back but they made it seem like it was not an issue. We will continue to return and enjoy the wings, burgers, sandwiches, etc.. never had a bad experience

I am giving SOT a 4 star based on the quality of food, beer and service. While the timing has to be improved I also realize SOT is bringing in customers from more than just Delaware and as a result they are getting slammed from open to close with no breaks. Having worked hospitality I know SOT employees are taking a beating. Now for the review. I went in on Wednesday with my wife and three sons. The wait was two hours so I told the hostess I was going next door to Barley Hopsters and would be back on 1.5 hours. She told me she can take my number and she would call when our table was ready, nice touch. Apparently I did not hear my phone ring, so she came to Barley Hopsters and got us. I could tell the staff has had the importance of customer service pounded into them and they have taken it to heart. Once back at Son of Thurman we were seated and we got our drinks and ordered. My wife and two of or sons got burgers and my third son ordered an Italian sub. We also ordered chicken wings, pretzel bites, and pizza rolls. I got no entree since I knew there would be left overs and that's where daddy shines The appetizers came out in about 30 minutes. During that time our server stopped at the table three times and filled our drinks. Again, excellent service. The wings were huge and fully intact with drummy, flapper, and little tip. The pizza roll was huge, fresh and cheesy, and the pretzel bites were the surprise of the night. The bites were warm with a crispy shell and doughy center. They were the first pretzel bites I have ever enjoyed in a restaurant. After more rounds of drinks our food came. The Italian sub was freakishly huge. The Jake burger (kids burger) was the size of any adult burger in town. My other son'a burger was dripping with juices and he had to study it and develop a plan of attack to eat it. My wife ate around the edges until she was full and passed her burger to me (she likes well done, with zero tolerance for pink). I took a bite and schmutz dropped onto my shirt, as should be. The burger was juicy, perfectly seasoned, the cheese was gooey. Perfectly cooked. Beer wise I had a Session lager from a bottle and a Deschutes Red Chair on draught. They have a nice beer selection. So, to wrap this up, service was 5 stars, food was 5 stars, beer selection was 5 stars, the wait was 2 stars. I also realize this is their first full week and they need to work on some issues but I am not willing to let a long wait ruin my experience. Also, regarding the kindergarten tables, they are two top tables for two people, they are inherently small. Quit acting like toddlers.

Absolutely horrible experience! Waited an hour and a half for our food when it wasn't even busy. My daughter's grilled cheese was so black from being burnt we had to send it back. Our waiter, the bartender, was very rude to our table at times. Granted he had to work the bar and our table but they should have given him more help.

Hands down amazing. Sure its not as good as its famous older brother up in columbus, but the food is right on par. Everything on their menu is a very large portion. The chicken wings are like chicken arms. The burgers are the best in town. Any negative review you see on here is just poppycock! Come hungry leave happy!!!!

I always go to the one down town but since we were in delaware we knew we must try Sons. This resturant/bar did not disappoint. Holy smokes. Delish. i did a 3 cheese burger and split with my daughter (those burgers are sooo big). It was juicy, had flavor, sooo good. Few weeks ago I tried BSpot in Gahanna and thought the hamburger was bland. i thought it was me not them. Now I know it was their burger. Sons is just as good as dads.

Neat spot. HUGE menu with everything from gigantic burgers to pizza. With Thurman's in Columbus & Son of Thurman in Delaware, maybe you could continue heading north with "Bride of Thurman" Mansfield?

Don't go to this restaurant expecting any food. Stopped by tonight at 9:30 and was told that the kitchen closed at 9:00. Posted hours were till 10:00. Nowhere was it posted that food was not available at this restaurant during open hours. One star is generous.

If you've eaten at the Thurman's in German Village then you know what to expect. Best part was virtually no wait. Lots of seats at the bar. Took a while for the burgers to come out, but gave us time for a couple of cold ones. Would definitely recommend!

This place has an easy atmosphere, a bit of a mix between a bar & family restaurant. They've got basic beers such as Bud, MIller, & PBR. Their burgers are huge but delicious, I split the Thurman burger with my fiance and we both loved it. Their wings are also good, but watch out because they are huge. I think this will be a go to place for me in Delaware.

First off, if ownership reads this, take out the red chairs from NOVA that are bolted to the floor in the bar area and burn them. After they are burned, have someone piss on them and then dump them into a open, active volcano. They will then contribute something of value back to the earth in the form of iron ore, carbon and minerals. Second thing 'environment' - i listened to the waiter/waitress drama show go on for a good chunk of one visit. My god it was annoying! "He said... she said... they said... I am a good worker... she is not that good... " OMG!!!!!!! And the wait staff with their phones on the floor, wow... the phones should be locked up during the shifts or better yet, no cells phones on the staff. Ever. One visit, we had a very soft spoken Asian waiter with barely a command of English, and is that a game to talk as softly as you can to the customers to have them scream "WHAT?!?!?!" every other word, in a loud restaurant...? After a handful of visits the dust has settled and 'new place kinks' worked out. I/we had burgers of course, it is Son of Thurman's... So far, i've got; over cooked on one side, unseasoned a few times, "big to the point of distraction" and hard to eat and very wet/sloppy. There is a good amount of sandwich, that is for sure. One visit, the side appeared to be "a plate of soaked lettuce and wet potato chips". I get "a big juicy burger" but to have almost 1/8 for a cup of 'juice' all over everything, yuck. That burger should have rested after it came off flat top... In fairness, SOT is not Thurman's in the Village. These are two different beasts and a comparison is unfounded like in some reviews. I will try a few more times and see if 'the systems' get up to speed... Let's face it, at $20 a plate, burger, beer and side - i want things pretty polished - the food to be great/tasty/seasoned/DRIER (much drier), and a PRO wait staff. That is not too much to ask based on the outlay.

So heard the hype and went to Son of Thurman's last weekend during the dog fest. We had to call our server over to get drinks and overall I was not impressed with the decor or service. We got our food and everything was overcooked. I honestly would have enjoyed a burger from Wendy's more than this place. The best thing this place had going for it was the pretzel's mustard sauce. Save your money and go somewhere else to get a burger.

This place is amazing and so much like the original (but bigger, which is just what it needed)! The food is amazing! Although it is bigger, still expect a wait, but for the wait to be worth it!!

Best chow down burgers in the region hands down! My favorite burger is the Alpha-1 (A-1) burger. So good! Big natural cut fries are a bonus (some burgers come with fries some come with chips) and I suggest the fried pickle slices as an appetizer if your really hungry. Try the wings too (I prefer Cajun 151 sauce) but be careful they are huge and you are likely to have some to take home.

Since I have moved to Central Ohio I have heard about Thurman's. Man vs. Food? Thurman's. So I have been curious. Last weekend my wife and I were bombing around Delaware kinda exploring the place and I saw it. Son of Thurman's. I thought well let's give it a try. We are right there. So in we went.. There wasn't much of a wait compared to what I have heard it is at the original. We were taken to our table and given menu's. Then poof. She was gone. It wasn't that busy at all. I didn't really pay any attention to it since I like to talk over diner. Looking over the menu there are some interesting burger choices so I was excited. I love a good burger and it seemed like I might have found a good spot. I figure if your in for a penny your in for a pound so I went for broke with the signature Thurman Burger. I thought about the Thurminator but thought better of my digestive system. My wife got the Garden Burger. The appetizers reminded me of what I would get at a Chilli's. Nothing looked really interesting or unique. We tried the Provolone Sticks and Cordon Bleu Balls just for kicks and were not impressed. Then came the burgers. They looked awesome. The size. But..and this is a big but...flavorless and just bland. The meat didn't seem to shine through and it seemed over cooked. My wife agreed and was surprised at the slapdash way the her burger seemed to be thrown together. And not one bit of melted gooey cheese to be found. Nope just slices on a burger high school style. The burgers were huge I will give them that but that isn't worth the price of admission. They are the right size of a good hand patted burger is all. A good tasty crispy crunch to show for it the time one the griddle would have been nice. So needless to say I did not like my burger. We both got sides of coleslaw and even it was pretty good. So that's something. The location isn't bad. The atmosphere is cool. I like a little more divey but that is just me. It was comfortable and that is the main thing for me. The waitresses and waiter seemed to be pre-occupied with gossip and talking. The only reason I noticed this was we were close to the station. While it didn't effect our experience there was obviously a feeling that they really couldn't care about the customers. I have worked retail and food industry and the job would be great if it wasn't for the customers at times. Just don't let them know you feel that way. Both of us were disappointed. I wish we would have gone home because my wife makes the best home-burger of all time . Usually I have a rule of three about restaurants. I will try a place three times before I say pass or fail. But after one shot that was so bad I doubt I will rush to try the Son of Thurman's anytime to soon.

We're OWU alumni in town visiting a friend. Hambo was packed so we headed across the street per a friend's and my mother's suggestion. My boyfriend liked the wings, but that's really all I can say for this place. Wait staff was not great, and the food...the food was disgusting. Absolutely no visual appeal. I doesn't say, 'Eat me, you know I'm bad but oh-so-good.' It says, 'Danger, Will Robinson. Eat me and you'll quite possibly contract diabetes.' The boyfriend got the Thurman, and it was nothing special, just gross. He said it was okay for the first bite or two , but after that only continued to eat because he was so hungry. (Same for me.). I got a sub and it looked like a supersize version of the sub you get out of a vending machine. Will never go back.

I've been here a few times since they have opened. We sat at the bar every time. I love the pizza thins! Super crisp crust and very tasty. The wings are really good too. I must say that the bartender that works happy hour is not good. He isn't personable. He has to be flagged down for service. Maybe they should have two bartenders during the dinner rush! So glad they came to Delaware.

Stopped in for lunch for the first time over the weekend. We felt we had to order one of the huge burgers they are known for....we ordered the mushroom burger and a side of the wide fried onion rings (they also have the skinny straw type). The three-quarter pound burger was as advertised and it's a good thing we decided to split it. It was cooked perfectly. Our only issues with it were that it had a pale tasteless tomato slice on it and rubbery canned mushrooms. We think that since it's the height of tomato season and the feature ingredients are mushrooms that it should have had a nice red ripe tomato and fresh mushrooms on it. The onion rings not freshly made - tasted like a frozen product that had been deep fried. The service and the draft beer were awesome

Just king of ok. I have heard about The original so I wanted to go try this one and it's nothing special. Long wait for food and the fries are just a bunch of tiny burnt pieces. Burger was ok but nothing I would go out of my way to eat. Maybe I just went on a bad day.

We got there at 8:58. They said the kitchen was already closed. It would be nice if they advertised that better, and possibly tried to be more accommodating.

Terrible. Checked in with host. Told there would be a 10 minute wait. Party of 3 came in and was seated right away. Then party of 4 came and was seated right away. After 20 minute wait I asked what was up. Host acted like it was his first time seeing us. I complained to manager. We were seated at one of the "kindergarten" tables. Then ordered and waited and waited and waited. After 1.5 hour wait I asked for check for the 2 drinks and appetizer we had. Burgers came as we were leaving. They boxed them up and covered the bill. I've enjoyed the original location many times. And would go back there. 1.5 hour wait for a hamburger is unacceptable. I won't be back to Son of Thurman.

Hands down the best restaurant in the Downtown Delaware area. The food never disappoints and the service is pretty good. Thankful to have a decent place to go finally.

Went to give them a second try. Was disappointed again. Can't get a kid burger? Seriously?. So sorry you got me to order a $4.00 salad. And my not recommending you to any one. Sorry yelp if a short review the place isn't worth more than this pan

Love this place! Working my way through their menu. Burgers are HUGE and always great.

Great Burger! There was a slight wait to be seated which wasn't bad but it did take quite a long time to get our food. We waited about 45 minutes to get our burger. Overall it was great.

Would love to give it 5 stars, but the bar stools were way uncomfortable, the service was a bit slow. This is a 5 star burger, but the staff and place need to catch up.

After waiting an hour to get in, waited another hour after ordering our food. Burgers were ok, chicken sandwich was warm and tough. First and last time we stop here.

Darned good burgers! Fries are awesome, so are the Onion Straws. You might have to wait a bit, but worth the wait, and you really get your money's worth!

  • Maria D.

Beware.

Not ideal for family's, been here three times in Delaware each with unique service not horrible but not good. Hamburgers overcooked and dry, $2.25 for a kids drink? 50 cents for miracle whip? Not worth going when you have smash burger and five guys down the road.

I've tried very hard to love this place but the food is average and the service has been below average every time I've been.

Nice.

The biggest best hamburgers by far. They are so big I have to cut it into sections to eat it. The wings are great too. They're huge. Prices are very reasonable.
