Stopped in here a week or so ago on recommendation of coworker. So I picked up a half dozen filled, and mentioned to the older gentleman behind the counter that I drove this route to work frequently, but had never stopped before...just hadnt noticed the sign or shop since it sits back from the road in a tiny strip mall. So he gives me a smile, and says "Here, try one of our apple fritters". I offered to pay for it, but he said it was "on the house". Smart guy...because I have been raving about that fritter ever since! The filled donuts were just as good too, and everyone at work loved them & wanted to know where I got them. Went back today and had another fritter and coffee (also good) at the counter while reading the house copy of the local newspaper. The young lady who worked the counter today was very nice and attentive, kept my cup full, and kept up with working the counter, tables, and donut sales too. Shared the paper with an older gentleman at the counter....reminded me of Mayberry RFD....LOL Just what I expect from a local mom & pop donut shop....

I ate lunch next door and noticed this business while leaving. I wasn't sure if it was even still in business, it was that shabby from the angle I was approaching from, but they were indeed operating and open. The shop is tiny, cramped even, but bursting with non-chain charm. A colored drawing of several donuts in the front window declared it the source of 'Dayton's best donuts.' I ordered five donuts and an apple fritter, paying just shy of eight dollars, and after my coworker and I sampled what we'd come away with in the car I immediately wished I'd emptied my wallet at the place. Their yeast donuts are supremely fluffy, and while the filling in one was imprecisely placed, and perhaps not as generous as some donut purveyors', it was very tasty. The apple fritter was so delicious it ought to be illegal. It was enormous, my coworker and I splitting it. I had a generous piece, and I still left enough to share with my parents later to help proselytize them. The cake donuts are delightfully soft, fluffy, and moist. Mine tasted like it was made 30 minutes before, but I bought it at 12:30. If they're like many donut shops, they make their donuts the night before, or early in the morning. This did NOT taste like a donut that had been sitting on a shelf for hours. If you're a donut aficionado, give this place a try. Dunkin's and Tim Hortons are places we go out of desperation, not knowing any other source for our delicious halos of sugary fried delight. Now you know there is an alternative, and they do not take credit cards.

Pretty darn good donuts. Nothing fancy or trendy but just good donuts. You can tell they are homemade because they taste fresh. Also the prices are amazing! I deducted one star because when I arrived around 730 am their selection, which did seem large, was almost completely gone. I hope I am able to try some of their other selections. The apple fritter is huge and really really good. I usually don't like regular glazed donuts but theirs had a nice balance and texture to it. I would definitely come back.

Been driving by this shop for years. Have never stopped for various reasons, usually because I wasn't making a doughnut run at the time. Besides that, one of the best doughnut shops in the area is maybe 5 minutes from the house. Today somebody at work brought in a couple of dozens of these - glazed. They were VERY good, at least as good as others in the area, including the ones in our neighborhood. I generally don't buy much beyond glazed, so by my tastes these were quite good. I'd stop for some next time I'm by there.

A diamond in the rough... I have been stopping in to American Classic Donuts for several years now. There are not many better places for donuts in the Dayton area. From the outside it doesn't look like much...even a little run down. As you walk in you are immediately met with a large case of donuts, a small counter section and two booths, usually containing the "usuals". They are friendly and usually sitting quietly drinking coffee and having good conversations. The ladies behind the counter are always friendly and smiling! But keep in mind they do not take credit cards. The donut selection is good. Not wide, but good. And what they do make, they make very well. My usual selection is an apple fritter which has a great chew to it and plenty of frosting! Their cream filled long johns, nut rolls, and glazed donuts are excellent choices as well. Do yourself a favor and give them a try some day, you won't be disappointed...

Stopped in on a whim for coffee and donuts. This is a small shop with a counter to sit & hang out and chat with the locals. Ordered one each of the coconut, apple spice and glazed donuts. All were very good. The dough was perfectly moist. Each donut was 85 cents and they charge a bit more for the creme filled ones. The coffee was weak, though. But then again, I prefer darker, stronger coffee. I'd definitely go back for the donuts.

I got one of the best doughnuts I have ever had in my life (and I love doughnuts) at this little shop. Don't let the modest appearance fool you. I asked for a chocolate frosted doughnut with nuts and the owner went in the back, frosted it and brought it out to me. I also bought a strawberry one and a Devils food one. All excellent and soooooooooo fresh!! If you are in or are passing through Dayton be sure to stop and support this business. You will not regret it. I give them 5 stars even though the decor and lack of coffee technology was disheartening. The niceness of the owner and the quality of the doughnuts makes up for it all.

Yup--this is the place! Old fashioned, no-bullshit donut shop. I was in Dayton (from Boston) visiting friends and I stumbled upon this hole-in-the-wall. The donut I got was one of the best and freshest I've ever had. If you're in the Dayton area, this place is worth a visit.

This is the anti-Krispy-Kreme joint that still lives on. The donuts were good, and fairly priced. The people working, as well as other patrons were exactly what you'd expect in an old-school donut shop. With that said, the place is kind of hard to see unless you know what you are looking for. It is unassuming, but maybe that is because I've lived in Arizona too long where places are so clearly marked that only the legally blind can't find where they are going.
