If you like thin crust, this IS the place. Great old school style at a great price and always fast.

I've heard you either love Rubino's or you hate Rubino's. I fall in the "love" category. My husband grew up eating Rubino's... would have it every visit to his grandma's in Bexley. He's been raving about it the past 6 years we've been together and I finally got to try it. Thin crust. Easy sauce. Easy cheese. Nothing fancy. Just delicious pizza. We picked up a ton of pizzas for a dinner, and even when room-temp, they were delish. The only knock is that the crust got a little soggy ... but only bc it is so thin. I would be willing to be that eating it fresh out of the oven is AMAZING! I'll have to try that the next time we're in Columbus.

This place is your typical college town pizza joint. They have been doing it the same way sine they opened and probably won't change and shouldn't. They serve soda in a can and their cracker crust on a cardboard circle and probably have for decades... This is a great place to come to to relive the experience of a pizza dive from your college days!

This unassuming pizzeria lived up to the hype. We ordered two pies: a pepperoni and mushroom & sausage. The thin crust was perfect. Each of the cross hatched pieces of pizzas was filled with meat. No holding back on toppings or taste. The place holds on to the past & it's unique style of graciousness. The owner's daughter was friendly & eager to answer all our questions. They still have a rotary phone & take orders on a yellow legal pad. I will def return.

I grew up in Bexley. Rubino's Pizza was the local hangout after football games .It looked like an old school mom and pops joint. Years later I had stepped inside to visit the ladies room. It was disgusting, and filthy. This dingy room reminded me of a mechanics bathroom. It looked, as if, it hadn't been cleaned since 1960! This came, as a major disappointment. Rubino's had the best tasting thin style pizza I have tasted. The kitchen's proximity, to the lavatory, places this old hop, off the menu.

Amazing thin crust pizza. Best i've had in columbus. I highly recommend the pep, sausage, pickle combo. Absolutely fantastic. Go to this place.

I was raised on rubinos and love love love it. My daughter is always happy if I get rubinos when she comes over

The pasta is good and the big hit is the pizza. It is a family restaurant to. And this is my son texting

Great place if you're not hungry because the crust is super thin, and I mean SUPER-OOBER THIN!! The cheese pizza was great, but the vegetable was a big disappointment. It only had onions and green peppers and not enough cheese. It barely covered half of the pizza. If I had choices, I probably wouldn't go here again. I'm all for good pizza, but for the price, it was too thin and not enough topping. Oh, and they're CASH ONLY!!

Classic pizza joint that's been around for 60 years!! They don't even have pizza boxes for takeout/delivery! If your order's to go, they wrap the pie in Saran Wrap. Nothing spectacular about this establishment. You walk in, a few tables spread and a couple of booths line the wall. A server will come to your table, or you head up to a small counter to place your order. Pizzas are made behind the counter so you can watch it you desire. Oh, and no alcohol served here. Several friends and I decided on Rubino's after a day of hiking. I made my own concoction: sausage, extra mushrooms, green pepper, lite onion, oil/garlic "sauce". And the verdict? I loved the taste! Fresh out if the oven. The crust is super thin, thus the dough didn't take away, or mask, the toppings. I am glad a friend picked this place for dinner - I will absolutely be back, in time!!

Always a fan of the "mom and pop" pizza joints. There's always something charming and rustic about one of these places. This place keeps it simple and old school by only accepting cash. Instead of pizza boxes, they make this little "tent" out of a white paper bag. My large pizza was only $12. And the sauce was tangy and had a slight bite to it. The crust was thin and slightly crisp with just a hint of some well-done spots. The toppings were plentiful and you could tell a lot of care went into making my pizza "package".

Had lunch her the other day, good times! It is what it is... A pizza place, and let me tell you the pizza is great! The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was because the bathrooms were a little messy. Hey it is what it is

  • Ashley R.

This pizza is da bomb.com ! My husband and I always order this pizza for our out of town guests as it's so tasty & did I mention CHEAP?! While it only takes cash, you can easily take out $20, get a large pizza, 2 salads, & 2 drinks and still have change left over. This is a Bexley Institution! The pizza is really thin with a tasty sauce and if you're a fan of old world pepperoni, then you'll love Rubinos! They also do a thinly sliced sausage which is excellent. I'm not even a sausage fan, but I also do the sausage here. Also, make sure you go extra cheese, otherwise it's lightly cheesed.

If you love thin crust pizza, this little cash-only pizza joint is the best in town. I'm obsessed. I work nearby and go at least once a month. Inexpensive and so delicious.

Heard this was the best pizza in Ohio. I was curious so I thought I would try. My astonishment on the taste was a surprise. This place has my personal recommendation. I would only prefer it if they were to take a debit or credit card instead of cash only.

After reading an article about Rubino's being the best place in Ohio, I decided to come try it. It's the best pizza in Columbus that I've tried as of the day of this review. My other favorite pizza places are Nidovi in Dublin and Carlucci's in Powell. This place reminded me of the typical old school pizza shop. It's 60 years old and they use the brick ovens instead of conveyor ovens that the major chains use. No employees wear uniforms or hats to try to improve "the image" of each company. They focus on the quality of the pizza and nothing else. They don't accept credit cards so make sure that you have cash. This was an ultra thin crust pizza. By far the thinnest I've ever seen. Probably 1/4 as thin as your typical thincrust pizza. Everything was handmade. The pepperonis and sauce were delicious and plentiful. The cheese was great too, but they don't put a lot of it on the pizza. They use sliced cheese instead of the shredded cheese. If it's your first time, the person at the cash register will explain all of this to you. Price of the pizza was only $11 (totally underpriced) and they sold canned pops for $.75 / can. You have to try it at least once. I live off 161 / Sawmill and don't usually drive further than Polaris and OSU Campus but this was definitely worth the drive and will go again. Finally, if you live far away from here you should eat in the shop. They have about 8 booths and 3 tables for you to sit at and the staff is friendly. They don't have pizza boxes. They just put it on the tray and put a bag over it so it will most likely be cold when you get home.

The best pizza in the world. Hands down. When I come to Columbus it's my favorite place! The salads and spaghetti are also fantastic.

I've been going to Rubino's for over 10 years now and, even with my tastes evolving over the years, it still is my absolute favorite Columbus pizza joint for cheese and pepperoni. People have different preferences for pizza and mine range from the ultra gourmet (Nataile's Coal Fired, Harvest, Bono) to the classic casual (Houndogs, Jets, Adriaticos). Even with all of the great pizza Columbus has to offer, the texture created by a Rubino's pie is unparalleled. The sauce and cheese are spot on. But it's the crust... Oh, that crust: Roman-style thin; cooked to perfection; air pockets that seem like an ingredient in themselves; so light that you can eat entire large in one sitting; balanced mixture of crisp, cracker crunch with softened doughy top. There really is nothing else like it.

Love Rubino's pep & mushrooms. The thin crust is perfect. Great family restaurant too!

Have always loved the old school signage of this place so put it on my list of places to try. I thought it would be like an old pizza restaurant with booths and such...the atmosphere was a step down from that...not that that's a bad thing. It's smaller than I expected and the menu is super limited. Spaghetti, Pizza and Ravioli. It opened in the 1950s and it doesn't look like much has changed since then. The crust is super thin and crunchy which I love. The price was right and everyone was really nice. I only gave it 3 stars because Columbus has some kick ass pizza. Granddads, Anges...and others that you can get delivered. Rubinos doesn't deliver but that's probably good as I don't know that the crust would hold up unless eaten right away.

Extra cheese, extra pepperoni. There is nothing better. Simple as that. This pizza is a true classic. Rubino's had been a Bexley staple for a long time; I can't even guess the number of years. They also have salads...the best iceberg lettuce salad you'll ever have. But why would you eat a salad when you can eat more pizza instead?

    (5)
  • John G.

Great pizza. I used to eat here in 1964 when I was a high school kid. Looks pretty much like it did 50 years agol

  • Corbin L.

WOW, is all I can really say. Thin crispy crust, homemade sauce thats perfect and pepperoni that curls up on the edges. I got pizza here after multiple people recommended Rubinos and really glad it was delicious. This will be my new place, its old school and best pizza I have had in Columbus.

I am not from around here. So every once in a while I miss the tastes of home. I lived in a small town where my family brought the same pizza since I was a child. Ive been to several different pizza places and could never find a pizza I loved...Well not any more!! This pizza is great. If you love thin crust you will love them.

  • William W.

Pizza recipe tastes good, and good size for the price, however the ingredients are sliced extremely thin so you hardly get anything on it. They dont take credit or debit card which in this day and age is completely ridiculous for an established business. Guy at the front counter was very rude when I presented my card not knowing I needed to carry checks with me to eat here. Went straight home (a 5 minute drive) and found the pizza I had ordered only 15 minutes earlier was cold because they dont use pizza boxes. Very dissapointing, wont be back sadly.

  • Missy F.

Old school and DEFINITELY not fancy. This pizza is cracker thin and is a gastric bypass patient's dream. I can have pizza without the pain of all the bread. Make sure you get the sausage. It is made in house (along with the crust and the sauce). It is cut really thin and about the size of a saltine. Sounds weird but try it.

Just looking at it from the outside, Rubino's is everything you think it is. In my mind, the fine people of Bexley first discovered this new fangled dish called "pizza" a couple two-three generations ago at Rubino's. The menu is simple: pizza, spaghetti, ravioli, and one salad with one kind of dressing. How great is that? Your Coke comes in a can, your pizza comes on a cracker. Or at least that's how the crust is. Reminds me an awful lot of the pizza I was exposed to growing up in St. Louis. Only at Rubino's, they use slices of cheese. I think it's provolone. I think it's the same stuff they put on the salad. Whatever it is, it blends perfectly with the subtly sweet but tangy sauce and the pepperoni that's anything but pretentious. Rubino's is not trying to be something it's not. It is not gourmet. It is not old-school irony. It's not a place that every pizza lover is going to love. It is living history. It is a family restaurant with a 50 pound telephone that can be heard from a block away and a pinball machine that's clearly been there since before video games were even invented. I love Rubino's and everything it stands for: super cheap, super fresh, super hot pizza that's been filling the bellies and warming the souls of its patrons for a long, long time.

Tuesday night pizza quest continues ........... I had very high hopes for Rubino's. I know a number of people who live in Bexley and love the place. I don't live in Bexley. I do not have any fond childhood memories of eating this pizza. So I'm left to judge the place not on nostalgia, but on the food. As to all the comments on the cash only/run down facilities - if you do not appreciate small mom and pop places with a ton of history (I happen to gravitate towards them) then this place is definitely not for you. While I love the smaller shops with some history, they have to have the food to back it up. The wife and I ordered our traditional pepperoni and mushroom. Given the thickness of the crust, it was cold in a matter of minutes. I can eat cold pizza with the most hung-over of college freshmen, but this was icy. The crust was too thin for my tastes and there was nothing special about the sauce or toppings. Cheese to sauce ratio (a biggie for me) was good, but not enough to save the day. If you want a recommendation based on childhood memories and nostalgia, for me it would be Tostino's frozen pizza with the small, square bits of pepperoni (or what they called "pepperoni"). If it's purely about the pizza, scrap the Tostino's and scrap Rubino's.

Several years ago a friend and I had a tradition of going to Rubino's once a month. We almost always ordered the exact same order: Spaghetti to start us off, and a large pizza each. It was really cool that the waitress knew our order after just a couple of months. My friend moved away to Japan for a while...but even after he came back, our waitress still knew our order (amazing!). So, anyway...Rubino's never really changes. The pizza is always fantastic, crispy, with spicy pepperoni. They never remodel or change the look of the place over the years. Really, there's no reason to change anything....it's good stuff.

We went to check this place out last night before heading to the Drexel to see a movie. We walked in and found the place to be charming in a divey/80s arcade game sort of way. It was super-crowded, so we were thinking it had to be good. The prices were great, but the menu selection was small (no wings, no appetizers)--just pizza, pasta, and pop. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, as it was our first time there. It took a while to get our food because of the sheer volume of eat-in and carry-out orders, but I kind of enjoyed watching all the families that were there, and watching the kids at the pinball and Ms. Pac-Man games. The pizza itself was just ok, nothing stand-out-ish about it. They said they make their own sausage and meatballs; we ordered the combo pizza, so it had the sausage on it. The sausage seemed strange--it was lighter in color than other sausages I've seen, and also it was pressed very thin. The crust was thin, so it had a good crispiness to it. It was hard to tell how much cheese was on the pizza; it may have been buried under the toppings, but it just didn't seem to be that cheesy. Important things to know: - Cash only - Carry out, but not delivery - They don't do pizza boxes--just thin cardboard plates I suspect this place is highly rated simply for its nostalgic factor; it's located on Main St. in Bexley, close to the theater and is probably a neighborhood pizza joint that many families take their kids to because of its affordability and fun pinball and arcade games. However, there was no "wow" factor that made this a destination point while visiting Bexley.

This is my favorite pizza place. Their pepperoni pizza with extra cheese and sauce is amazing. I love the spice in their pepperoni and even their sausage. I try to stop by every time I'm in Columbus.

  • Liz M.

Rubino's style doesn't really work for me. I love the nostalgic feel of the place and the friendly atmosphere, but the pizza just doesn't cut it. They have an interesting approach with ingredients. They use tiny slices of provalone for the pizza. That's how the cheese layer is so thin. I'd probably recommend double cheese = regular cheese. Overall I feel their pizzas are over cooked and the crust doesn't have much flavor or chew. Definitely avoid this place if you see kids in any type of sports uniforms. It's a common stop after little league type games and can get crazy with kids. But stop in if you like a little nostalgia with your pizza!

  • Ed B.

I'm not sure how this place got the award of best pizza in Ohio. My crust was burnt is so thin that it's hard to pick it up without it bending. The toppings are ok but not out of this world. The sausage is kinda weird because it's very thin strips. The sauce is mediocre at best. The cheese is very light even with getting extra. They only take cash or checks too. I probably won't be back.

I'd worked in Columbus for two years and hadn't discovered this place until the last month I was there. Boy, was I pissed. I'm a pizza connoisseur and absolutely love a crackery-thin crusted pie. This place does not disappoint. There are no frills here, unless you consider Ms. Pac-Man a frill (it's a fair argument). You walk in, and either have a seat, or just tell the cashier what you want. Soda? She'll open the massive fridge behind the register to 'display her cans'. Have a seat and ten minutes later, you're staring into a cheesy disc of heaven. I usually go for the sausage and pepperoni. Yeah, it's greasy, but good-God man, it's delectable. A 10-inch pie is a perfect lunch size for a growing boy due to its cracker-like crust. My pizza and a can of soda ran me about $8.50. Crap, I gotta stop writing this, I'm getting hunger pangs just thinking about this. Seriously, go to this place.

Great Pizza. Old school all around. Thin crispy, loaded with toppings. Sweet and spicy sauce. Great experience highly recommend.

This long time local old school gem rocks !! Clean, bright, stuck with its roots Pizza joint. Love the thin crust, minimalistic toppings but full of flavor. This is the real deal !!! Not trendy and doesn't need to be, because the food is genuine Visited 1/12/2013

Bexley's pride and joy. Great pies in a down to earth atmosphere. I'm originally from the East side of Cleveland and Geraci's is the call when there. This is the Geraci's of Columbus. Enjoy!

The BEST pizza on the entire planet!!! Seriously, this pizza is so AWESOME, my brother-in-law drives up from Atlanta just to indulge in this slice of heaven.

What I've tried: Pepperoni pizza, Combo pizza I think this place deserves about 3 stars. One for making good pizza. One for charging a fair price. One for being unique (thinnest crust I've ever eaten). It loses a star for looking outdated inside, and it loses a star for not taking credit cards.

  • Tom N.

I really loved this pizza. I wouldn't go as far as saying that Rubino's is my favorite Columbus area pizza, but it's pretty damn good. I'm not usually a thin crust person, but Rubino's crackery crust is delicious and is what makes their pies so unique. The sauce, cheese, and toppings are all top notch, but their crust is why I'll drive 30 minutes to get this pizza again. Yes, I really loved this pizza.

  • Ashley J.

I like pizza. While this place had decent pizza, the building itself is in need of an horrible upgrade. I understand how some establishments love to keep the "vintage" and "traditional" feel, but this place needs to get with the times. Seriously. I went with my boyfriend one day after we walked around Bexley, just trying to get familiar with the area since I had just moved there. We were in the mood for pizza, so we hit this place up. Keep in mind it was a warm, summer evening. Once we walked inside, it was like a damn sauna. No proper air conditioning and it was a pretty crowded place. Staff was very friendly and down to earth, but if you ever plan to eat in here, don't. I'm not kidding. You'll end up sweating pounds off before you even get to eat. Do yourself a favor and call ahead like some people and leave. Take out is better.

  • Nicole F.

My parents raved about how great this pizza was back in the day, so we ordered two large pies, one with pepperoni and mushrooms and the other with extra cheese and 1/2 pepperoni. The crust was extremely thin. I was going to write that it was as thin as a cracker, but crackers are actually thicker. The pizzas had very little sauce and the pepperoni was a bit spicy. The extra cheese on the one pizza wasn't noticeable and the bottom was burned. In summary, not a lot of flavor and definitely not worth the trip. It was the worst thing that had been in my mouth all weekend. If you're feeling adventurous and decide to try it, it's true that they don't accept credit cards.

I grew up on this pizza, my mom grew up on this pizza, it is just a family tradition. Before I decided to go vegan, this was it, the one place I had to go when I came home. This place has been my pizza equivalent to Cheers! Yes, it is thin, THIN, crust pizza, that some of my friends would try and pass off as matzah pizza during Passover. But it is packed with flavor, cooked to perfection, and the prices are great too. I love their salad, their spaghetti, the fact that they have grape soda, and that I can play pinball while I wait for my pizza. Try the veggie or pepperoni pizza, both are great! Get over the fact that it's cash only and stop hatin' on my hometown joint. Sheesh.

Great pizza and spaghetti cheap soft drinks and quick service! One of the few pizzerias that still bag your pizza. A neat trick to watch and keeps the prices down! But ---- if its a hot summer night you may want to get the food to go- The a/c does not work worth a darn and they have fans blowing the air but its still hot as you kno what in the place. Hope they fix this some day!!

  • David M.

Why do I feel like I'm back at home whenever I come here? This place is all pizza, pasta, and arcade games. Small town pizzeria in a city that has outlasted everyone else and for good reason. Ever go to a place that offers something it can't do? You won't get that here. They do thin crusted (more) traditional pizza and a few options like pasta and salad. Service is folksy and fast. This place reminds me (sometimes annoyingly) that pizza existed before credit cards and pretentious and overdone decorations. They do it cheaply too. I wouldn't go across town for it, but since I live nearby I need to keep my checkbook handy for this place. If you're in the area you have to go.

  • Amy L.

This pizza is the best pizza I have ever had. Every ingredient is excellent--truly high quality, unassuming, old-fashioned, and in the deepest sense of the word--DELICIOUS. It is the kind of food you take small bites of and roll your eyes in ecstasy, a-la 'What About Bob'.

  • Julie H.

Just when I thought I was sick of pizza, I tried Rubinoes and it was amazing. The thin crust was just the change I was looking for. The place was very low key so I felt right at home in my shorts and t shirt. A fun casual night out!

  • Sanford R.

Rubinos is a tradition. The pizza and customers have happily grown together over many generations. The secret to Rubinos is knowing how to order your pizza. My way is with double cheese, pepperoni & sausage, well done and cut small. I always suggest to the newbies to order your pie with double cheese.

  • Heather B.

Husband and I tried this place on date night not too long ago. He ordered a pizza and I had spaghetti. Only a quarter of his pizza had cheese on it, and it was dry. My spaghetti was okay, the sauce very very soupy and lacking in flavor, and the meatball was tough and pretty much flavorless. I'll stick with Ange's, thank you!

Being from NY originally any time I can get my hands on a thin crust I MUST TRY IT...so I heard about Rubino's and figured I would give it a try. They have a very basic and simple menu, which for someone like myself who cant make decissions easily is the best! I decided on the small combo with mushrooms, added some hot peppers for a bit of a kick. When I walked in to pick up my order you really get that feeling of a small town pizza joint. What really kicked that feeling into full gear was sitting down at a table and talking to an elderly lady who mentioned how her and her husband had gone there on one of their first dates about 30 years back. She said not much has changed, and thats one of the biggest reasons she comes back. They do not accept plastic here, but thats A-OK with me...i figure it helps keep prices low and $10 for a large pep and cheese or $9 for my small combo pizza you really cant beat that. The small was large enough for one person...I would say that the large would be kosher for about 2 people.

Not bad, not bad at all. There is just a lot of competition out there. What I like about the pizza is that its cracker thin. Nice blend of cheese, sauce and herbs/spices. I wish the size of the pizzas were bigger for the price

Fantastic, old school, ultra thin crust pizza at it's best. Seems like all the original fixtures and machinery is still in use, too: mixer, dough roller, ovens, etc. Seating is also old school which means it's not overly comfortable, which keeps that fifth star from appearing on my rating. Update the booths a bit and this place would be PERFECT. Best sauce I've had outside of Youngstown. I will definitely go back!

When I was in college in Bexley, this was my go-to for pizza dinners with friends. Yes, the building is nothing to look at...it may even fall in the "hole in the wall" category for most...but the pizza is delicious. I normally don't even like thin crust pizzas...but these I love. When recently back in town we stopped in and reminisced over a pizza...hasn't changed a bit in the 5 years I've been gone. Plus it's reasonably priced for a college budget. Four friends + 1 topping Rubino's pizza = good deal :)

  • Tony F.

Rubinos is great, sometimes. Let me say that if it comes down to just pizza Rubinos is great. Thin crust, delicious toppings and quick service. Unfortunately more goes into a business than just the food, overall experience I would say is what makes people choose a restaurant. And in some ways Robinos can't keep up. I was planning on picking up pizza for my last Junior Achievement class today when I realized I am not loyal to a single pizza place in town. I went to Twitter and after a suggestion called Rubinos and ordered two large pies. So the building is old school, and I mean very old school. What seems like 50's paintings line the walls and one of the old medal cash registers sits on the counter. Its endearing really- then you find out they don't take cash. Well that sucks, run across the traffic and wait for the ATM and go 90 to get to JA on time. The pizzas weren't in boxes, carrying was a challenge. If you are going to Rubino's sit down, take your time, and bring cash. Otherwise you are in for a mess. T

Love this place! Pizza crust and sauce is excellent! They also have great spaghetti and meatballs! They have canned soda which includes cream soda and ginger ale! Service is fast and with a smile. Check this place out you won't be disappointed.

ZING! POW! WHAM! I'm pretty sure this is what my mouth experienced when I had the pepperoni and sausage pizza. In this day of crumbly tasteless sausage and bland pepperoni, it's refreshing to go to a place that uses such great and flavorful toppings. I'm assuming it's locally owned, and that's another reason to support them. This place is old school all the way, and it works. If you want a pizza that your mouth won't soon forget, definitely try this place!

We were in Columbus for business and liked the looks of Rubino's. Glad we made that choice, we arrived around 3:30 pm. We were pleased that the owner waited on us and we let her know it was our first time, she told us about the pizza before we ordered. They make the thinnest crust I ever ate on a pizza and it was awesome! They make the pizza sauce and the sausage. The sausage is baked in a loaf, sliced thin and is very good. They were in business before the pizza box was invented, they use a cardboard bottom and a clever bag to cover the pizza. We will return! Let them know it is your first visit, you will be pleased!

We recently moved neighborhoods and were checking out replacements for our old favorites, Tommy's and Hound Dogs. I definitely agree with the suggestion to get a large, the pizza is so thin crust that it's not very filling. Following another suggestion, we got half double cheese and half regular cheese, green pepper and onion. The veggies were fresh and the oven didn't really cook them like on a normal pizza, so they were still crisp and fresh tasting, which I really enjoyed. They have a limited topping selection, I think it was onion, green pepper and mushroom as vegetables (we're not meat eaters so I forgot to pay attention to the meat offerings). We also got a side salad, which I would recommend passing on. Of course ordering a salad at a pizza joint is almost always a mistake, and here it was just iceberg with slices of provolone and their house Italian, which was so-so as far as homemade dressings go. Soda comes by the can. They have a good selection (ginger ale, cream soda, ect) and it's appropriately priced $0.60, but some people are picky about their pizza drinks or only drink soda with pizza, so this could be a disappointment. We got out with a large salad, a large pizza, and a can of soda for $20 including a decent tip. Overall, a good pizza, but not really what we were looking for. Also, on atmosphere, for some reason from the outside and the reviews on it being classic and having memorabilia, I was expecting a somewhat intimate atmosphere, or at least the classic booths and low lighting type of deal. On the contrary, they are cafeteria style booths and florescent lights. Oh, and the employees were watching some reality show trash (literally, it had to be a reality show on white trash, lots of boobs and cursing and mullets). I'd recommend taking it to go, it's not quite the relaxing experience eating in!

A Bexley insitution and written about extensively by Bob Greene. I've been going almost since they opened in 1952. The yelpers are right, if you want thin cracker crust, this is it, but get it with extra cheese. Their salad is great too, and so is the old tyme oil/vinegar house dressing. When you're done with Rubino's, go east on Main and head to Johnson's Ice Cream. You will have one heck of a high calorie meal!

What can be said about this Bexley institution? The place literally hasn't changed in 50 years. The pizza is thin and delicious. Crispy crust and always cooked to perfection. The pizza is made with provolone cheese instead of mozzarella. They like to go light on the cheese, i personally recommend getting double cheese. I'd like to write more, but this place is just such a gem. Hound dogs no, Rotolos no, Donatos uh uh. If you want thin pizza in columbus, its Rubinos. No other options.

I saw online that this was a very old-school, family-friendly, hole-in-the-wall pizza place that basically sells three things: thin-crust pizza, ravioli, and pasta. It was indeed all of those things, and we enjoyed it. We are about 40 years old, have two daughters, aged 8 and 10, and we were in the midst of a cross-country road trip. We stayed in Columbus for two nights, mainly to see the Columbus Zoo (which is awesome), and tried really hard to find really good, family-friendly local businesses, so that we aren't just eating at Applebee's every night or something. This was a good choice: the pizza is very thin crust, St. Louis style pizza. Ask for extra cheese, and keep the toppings beyond that to a minimum. If a family of four like mine orders two pizzas, you'll have a little bit left over. The pizzas are pretty cheap - between $9 and $12 apiece, The sodas are 60 cents each, canned soda. The pasta and ravioli is $6 to $8 each. They have a pinball machine and a Ms. Pac Man game, which the kids loved. It is a 60-year-old family-owned diner, only takes cash, very old school feel, which the kids really liked. My only dings would be that you have to remember to bring cash, which many people no longer really do; that the style of pizza is sufficiently unique that some kids might be confused, ands that could be a problem with little kids (my kids enjoyed it, though); and it is a little out of the way, if you are staying in downtown Columbus. It is in a good neighborhood, but you will have to go through a sketchy neighborhood to get there. The clientele was a lot of fun - a mix of young professionals and older people who you know have been going there for decades. On balance, I would definitely recommend it, and I did love the pizza and the kid-friendliness of it!

I grew up on Rubino's pizza and, when I returned to Columbus recently (from D.C.), I picked up one of the famous pies with the twisted paper hat. There will never, ever (in my view) be pizza that beats Rubino's. The crust and the sauce are etched in my soul. It is beyond delicious. It is divinely inspired.

Although Rubino's doesn't look like much from the outside, the pizza that is created inside is like no other - yes, I said NO OTHER, in Central, Ohio. Before trying this fabulously, thin crust pizza about 5 years ago, I thought for sure all of the talk and comments that I had heard about this pizza were all hype. How could a simple pizza be that d*mn good, according to all of the regulars - and there are many, many Rubino's regulars. I must admit, after trying it I completely understood what everyone was talking about. I never order pizza form anywhere else, at least when I'm at home in Bexley. The crust is thin and crisp, the sauce is made from scratch every day, and all of the toppings are fresh and plentiful. It is also my understanding that the spaghetti is really good, but I can't get past the pizza to try anything else. This is "The Place" that my husband and I take anyone from out of town, and it has yet to disappoint. In fact, when my parents visit us from FL, this is always the first place where my mom and dad ask to go. My dad loves Rubino's so much he orders his own pizza for himself. If you are ever in the Bexley area and you want to try a pizza that is seriously like no other, do yourself a favor and go to Rubino's. You won't regret it and you will thank me later! :o)

I worship Rubino's pizza and I didn't grow up in Bexley. Don't get me wrong, I have been eating Rubino's most of my life, but, it was only when I stayed at my friends houses in Bexley growing up that I was able to get my Rubino's fix as a kid... Thank god I am closer and mobile now! I love the double cheese or double cheese with pepperoni... finish it off with a salad (ask for extra dressing) and you will be in heaven! It is honestly my favorite Sunday night treat. There is something about their oil and vinegar dressing too... there is nothing special about it, it is just amazing.... I like to dip my pizza in it. Rubino's is pretty reasonably priced, although, I usually order the same thing and it often varies by a dollar or so depending on who is running the register. The interior and exterior haven't changed since I was a kid (which unfortunately was a long time ago). For some reason it just ads to the charm... The register is seriously from 1978 and they manage all of their takeout orders on a yellow legal pad... which makes things tricky sometimes when you have an unusual name. The "to go" packaging is large white sheets of paper made into a perfect little tent. Classic old school pizzeria! I LOVE Rubino's... especially the character and charm. Dine in, take out or have it shipped!

I have to say, we're not fans of thin crust pizza at all but this is defintely a pizza we'll be coming back for! Great sauce with a wee bit of a kick to it, good pepperoni and the crust was really crispy and held up to the sauce. We did get some spaghetti and meatball to try something other than the pizza and didn't care for it. The meatball tasted weird and the sauce didn't work well on the overcooked pasta but we didn't come there for pasta. The pizza was excellent and the guy behind the counter was a jokester and very friendly which sadly is so rare these days. Will go back for sure! (Only downer was they don't open til 4pm on the weekend and we would've preferred it for lunch.)

This place is awesome!!! Thin Crust pizza that has the perfect amount of crunch. Get the big salad too, A large with Pep, much and green peppers with a big salad was under $15! worth the 15 trip from German Village!

do yourself a favor and stop reading the reviews and get over and try this pizza! Ultra thin, try the sausage, get it well done. Reasonably priced too. If you are in search of dough pizza to fill up the neighbors kids this isn't it. This is all about the flavor and it's the best!

Upon walking in, you are immediatly caught up in the family atmosphere between the customers and the staff. A cozy dining area next to the open kitchen area, gave the holiday feel of sitting at the kitchen table while the family prepared a meal. It was obvious that the place was seeing lots of repeat business (always a good sign). Even though there was no delivery, the line of pick up orders was un-ending. We had Pizza and salad. The large salad was big enough for four, with fresh sliced cheese. The pizza was the thinnest I have ever had. In times of heatlth and diet, it was a welcome change. We found it crisp and evenly cooked without the extra dough filler. Toppings were plentiful. No tomato topping however. We saw others getting pasta. The single portions looked huge. I think the regulars knew something that we didn't. To see two pizza restaurants right next to each other, tells me that we made the right choice. Pros: FOOD,SERVICE, VALUE Cons: Small parking

4 star pizza minus 1 for the consistent attitude. Everytime I come here they are rude to me in some way or another. Whether its notifying me they only accept cash or that I am too early for pick up. They act like they are doing me a favor for selling pizza.

Best paper thin pizza! The atmosphere lends itself to kids and grandparents out for pizza vibe, so not a good place for brews and fun, but the pizza is Fantabulous! Take it home in one of their TP top pizza bags and make your own fun. YUM!

One of the best thin crust pizza places in Columbus. Been eating Rubino's since I was a kid and my parents ate there when they were growing up. The place has been there a long time. I dig it cause its kinda old school. Its been the same since I was kid.

Almost the same as it was when I was little. I have grown up going to Rubino's. It is a family tradition. Love the sausage pizza and the salad dressing.

The Best Pizza on the Planet. Seriously, no question, hands down, the best. My father grew up eating this pizza and in turn, so did the rest of our family. The crust is extremely crispy and thin with just the right amount of sauce and cheese. My father claims that he got the owner to start slicing the pie's with small pieces, "cut small". But you can also get the vertical strips, if thats your style. As for toppings, I stick with the pepperoni, which are small and curl up with crispy edges once cooked. Other folks like to order double cheese or the sausage, which is actually paper thin slices, instead of the typical ground sausage balls. I inhale a large pepperoni by myself, but a small should be enough for the lighter eaters. They also have pasta and other italian dishes, but I've never considered ordering anything else besides the pizza. The unfortunate thing about Rubino's is that there is only one store, with no delivery. Fortunately, my parents were nice enough to FedEx two large pepperoni pizzas all the way to California for my birthday this past year. (You can buy a pizza half-baked and then cook it in your oven at 500 degrees for about 3 minutes, almost as good as being there)

This is an old-time family pizza parlor -- REALLY THIN CRUST. I love it -- but if you don't like cracker thin crust then you won't like this. You need to eat it there because it cools quickly. Soda is in cans. Salad is mediocre. Ravioli is good. But the pizza is the best darn thin crust in a 75 mile radius. This ain't chain pizza -- it has real character. The dining room is simple and plain. I don't care and if you really love thin crust pizza, you will forgive them for the decor.

Relatively inexpensive thin crust pizzas, bread and butter, hearty sauce-covered meatballs and other Italian menu options like spaghetti. Kind of dingy dive-type dining area but not bad. Average service and average food in my opinion.

Traveling through Ohio and saw the Yelp reviews on this place, so stopped to give it a try. I love thin crust pizza and have tried it all over the place, but this place was really incredible. Ordered mine well done and pizza came out like a delicious pepperoni and cheese cracker almost. Prices were very affordable. Location and setup is nothing fancy, but the it doesn't need to be with pizza this good.

  • Paul R.

This place is nothing fancy, we have eaten here several times for lunch, the pizza is a very very thin crispy crust with a good sauce. Make sure to order extra cheese. The Salads are big enough for a meal or to split. They don't take cards so make sure to bring cash, there is a bank next door

Great pizza, great people. Family owned. Personally, I think this is the best pizza in Bexley. Thin crust, crunchy and delicious. Bring cash (or check). If you order plain cheese, I recommend asking for extra, it's a little light on cheese!

  • Susan R.

Rubino's is definitely not the worst pizza in Bexley--in fact, so far, it's the best I've had (though I have not had all the Bexley pizza). It has a lot going for it: it's inexpensive, it's super-casual, and for the most part, the pizza is not bad. Also, that rad neon sign, amirite? We got good service, too, even though there was a group also eating at the same time; our server was friendly and made sure she didn't ignore us. But I'm not won over to fandom yet. I actually would like to go back and try a pizza that doesn't have onions on it; we got our pizza with pepperoni and veg (peppers and onions) and... their veg doesn't work for me. It comes out almost like it was steamed and kind of weighs down the pizza. I think a simple pepperoni pizza might do the trick. I would also like to try the pasta. My jury is still out. I'm not won over, but I'm also not put off by it. Will try again.

I stopped into Rubinos on the way to the airport. I devoured the pepperoni pizza out of the bag before I arrived at the terminal in 15 minutes - it was delicious. Cooked to perfection. I personally think Rubinos makes the best pizza on the planet. It's super thin, cracker like crust, dusted with corn meal, and unique pepperoni blend that curls up when cooked, is surreal. Rubinos rekindles my love for pizza every time. Love it!

  • Carly W.

Rubino's is a solid pizza choice in the Bexley area. As others have noted, the crust is very, very thin, but that's awesome if you like to let the toppings shine--you're not just filling up on dough, so it doesn't feel like a total gut bomb afterwards. The pizza is kept hot and delicious atop the oven until you arrive (carry-out or dine-in only). I would give 5 stars, but recently tried their ravioli and was completely underwhelmed by how bland it was. I'd say stick to the pizza, because it's 5 star all around! And a final tip: they only accept cash or check, no plastic.

I love this pizza it's the best pizza in this whole country I remember when uncle frank use to slap the phone when he answered it and it would pop up in his hand that was so cool me and my brother would go home and do for like a hour every time we left I couldn't wait to do it lol. My dad would take me atlest 3 to 4 times a month now I take my kids and they love it when we go they play the same game I did when I was a kid.

People please stop drinking the Kool-Aid... The employees are short and unfriendly... I understand sticking to your roots but cash only?!?! It's 2015... I was blown away by their lack of toppings (no ham or jalapeño)? I know pizza my mother was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY (she's Italian)... The cardboard the pizza came on had more flavor than the actual pizza. Huge letdown and unfortunately the pizza has very little flavor. My wife said it's like eating a cracker... Needless to say you couldn't pay me to ever go back...

Saw the article about best in ohio. It's not even best in Bexley. Not even close. Crust is prefabbed and tasted frozen. Absolutely terrible pie. Very limited toppings and not fresh. Did I mention it was terrible?

Just can't get enough of the pep, sausage, onion and pickle! Oh I love this pizza, but as I'm trying to be more health conscious , I chose a different pizza, dbl cheese , veg with mushroom and olive. I didn't even miss the meat! Totally surprised me. Now I can still have the best pizza without the calories!

This has got to be some of the best pizza I have had in a long time! It's a small, family style shop that does a limited number of toppings on a super good, super thin crust. I've been in once, and done pickup from them once as well. As long as you know what you're walking into it is a wonderful experience. Things to know about Rubino's 1) The parking is limited. If you go during a rush period you'll be looking for street parking nearby. Trust me, it's worth the wait to find a spot so you can get in here. 2) It's thin crust. Don't go in looking for super deep dish, it's just not what they do. 3) This is a big one, cash or check only. That's right- no credit cards. So hit the ATM before you show up. I know this is a big stumbling block for some people these days, but deal with it, again, it's worth it! 4) If you are doing carry out you need to order like four or five pizzas to get boxes for each. Don't ask me why, if I do carry out I'm getting at least that many. I went here with a good friend of mine and the two of us unashamedly destroyed a large by ourselves. You'll probably do the same. It's good stuff! Try it, if you like thin crust, probably if you didn't before, you'll enjoy it. Just sit down, take in the atmosphere, and enjoy the friendly service.

Just drove up from Cincinnati yesterday to check out what was named Ohio's Best Pizza. It's pretty fantastic. It very much brings to mind Cassano's with a better crust. Super tasty homemade sauce and generous with the toppings. Super affordable. Well worth the 2 hour drive! Cash only!!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Their Pizza! Went here for lunch today and had to come back and write a review afterwards! This place in a simple place. Has a large sign that you can't miss, especially if you are looking for it. Just tables and booths, small place, nothing special inside.... but their pizza was great! It's a thin crust style, which brought back a little of my Italy trip to me. Not Italy, but it is definitely good and I plan to bring my Husband here soon! This has been a style of pizza we have been looking for and so happy to know I've found it! Everyone was nice and friendly. Beware, they do not take credit cards! Only Cash and Checks! Can't wait to go back!!

Rubino's is located right in yhe heart of downtown Bexley. I'd passed by the sign many times but today it was time to stop in and have a look around. It's not real fancy on the inside; as a matter of fact it looks like a pizza shop. ;) But pizza isn't what I came for, it was pasta! So I got the full order of spaghetti with meat sauce and one meatball. An that reminded me of a song from my childhood; "You get no bread with one meatball." I just googled that and it was by the Andrews Sisters circa the end of WWII. Anyway that song got me off track. The spaghetti was good, the meatball was tough and I DID get some Italian bread with it. Made it worth three stars!

A chunk of my family hails from Ohio. They're incredibly wealthy, inhabiting the mansions of Bexley when they aren't at their homes in Aspen, Manhattan and Miami. Yet despite the boundless options afforded them, the family cherishes and often returns to Rubino's. So ingrained in our family's history is Rubino's that a photo of my mom's cousin and his best friends adorns the wall in Rubino's. I remember my first visit, escorted in a brand-new DeLorean by my mom's uncle, who at the time owned the entire remaining fleet. And Rubino's itself? A little brick box with a red neon sign reading PIZZA, red and white checkered draperies, yellowed walls, an old wall menu where the prices probably haven't changed in many years, well-kept booths, wobbly tables, and an analog plug-into-the-wall telephone that rings off the hook, with a real bell inside it. The signature of the Rubino's pizza is how thin the crust is. In years past, the staff would toss the dough repeatedly to get it that thin, and nowadays they run it through a mechanical roller to get it just right. It's thin and crispy. There aren't too many high-falutin' options when it comes to toppings. They keep it real with the tried and true stuff. Ask for double-cheese, since the default is pretty light. And if you're in-the-know, which you are as of now, ask for the pizza to be Shenk'ed (prounounced "shanked") and they will bake the pizza a little bit longer, giving you a little bit of char on the bottom, really crisping up the crust and making the pepperoni a little more crispy as well. And if you order your pizza that way, they might even think you're part of my family. Which is part of the Rubino's family. And really, everyone is part of the Rubino's family.

I have eaten here for over 41 years and i still can find any pizza even close to theirs. My mouth waters at the mere thought of this pizza - especially when i eat it. I have green peppers, mushrooms and pepperoni and its absolutely intoxicating. Being stuck is Chicago its worth the 400 mile trip just for the taste and i make sure i do. Thank God that they ship fedex - will be enjoying some soon as i just cant wait till this summer.
