BAH, We went back again, and it took forever for the waitress to come around, my hot dog was prepared wrong, twice, and my tator tots were TERRIBLE. Apparently, there is no consistency. This was my worst experience yet. I am not even sure if I want to go back. :( Very disappointing.

Dirty Frank's West is the downtown DF's location's little sister, if that little sister was bigger, badder, and just as cool as her older counterpart. It is a bit difficult to find if you're looking for something splashy on the exterior. There is a sign for Mr. Wang's karate on the eastern exterior of a plain building - see that and you've found it. There is on street and some off street parking (we've parked at Hilltop Medical after 5pm with no issues). Rock and roll art decorates the walls, naturally, but local kid done good Michael Redd gets a big spot, too. There is a great bar area with tables AND a large dining room. I was close to dizzy with all the space to enjoy DF's unique hot dog offerings. Ok, I have tried all non-beef-containing iterations of DF's, and varied the types of dogs and preparations on several. (The Nicola with a ripped veggie dog - *finger kiss*) Most recent trip was for the Planned Parenthood fundraiser and we joined a group to nosh on: onion rings, French fries, pretzels (salty and spicy mustard and cheese and oh, baby), tater totchos deeelux, and Crew, Pittsburgh Princess, Chicago, Puff the Magic Popper and Real Man dogs. Oh, and beer to wash it all down smooth. Ok, I want to go back again, like right now.

It's solid good food. If you're expecting gourmet, you're in the wrong spot. If you want pretty good hot dogs (of the meat, veggie or vegan variety) with various side dishes and good beer for fairly cheap, then this is your place. IN RESPONSE: Also, I see that your place is hosting a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood on August 10, 2015. Because of political, as well as moral reasons, I will DEFINITELY be coming and giving so many of my hard-earned dimes and dollars for your services. I'll be sure to pass this on to family and friends in Columbus because I'm proud to support a business that supports women.

I gave them another shot and it was much better. My son, granddaughters, and I had a pretty good dinner last night. The girls each got the very cool octopus hot dog served on a little bowl of mac 'n cheese. The tots were not overcooked this time (score!). The service was decent. The girls' lemonade was served in compostable cups (I love that); see photo. I've tried different dogs from their menu in the past and I think I found my favorite. The veggie dog with slaw and crushed potato chips was great. Bottom line: Good food, nice beer selection and a cool place to bring the kids.

I wasn' t too sure about this place at first. I was hungry, it was close so I thought why not. I am glad I wonder that direction. The host dog wasn't too bad but the other toppings made it so much better. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. I enjoyed hanging out there for the hour I was there. It was a good choice......next time I will try it by replacing the hot dog with sausage.

Since moving to Columbus, Dirty Frank's has become a household favorite. The fact that they offer more than one vegan hotdog option alone is amazing but most of their menu is vegan optional. I have had their vegan Chicago dog and it is delicious! It comes with all of the condiments you expect with just the right dash of celery salt along with fresh tomatoes, crisp pickles and a couple of spicy peppers for kick. When it comes to fried foods, they are my absolute favorite. They have great french fries but their tator tots and fried leeks are my favorite. They also make deep fried soft pretzels that come with a tasty spicy mustard. I recommend saving the cup for when your meal comes out so you can have some with your tots. The prices are great and service is friendly. It is a bar and the art is kitsch but it is still family friendly. Definitely give them a try!

Wow... I really wanted to try this location out because I have always been a loyal fan and patron of the original Dirty Franks. First thing: the only sign is right on the front of the building, so you can probably expect to drive past it. Next: the floors here are slippery and buckling like there is a water leak or something. The floor is made out of the lowest quality wood laminate flooring I've ever seen, and has a fake wood grain that makes it slippery. It's almost like this location was opened in a hurry and without a lot of planning. The walls are bare compared to the other location and the whole vibe is different. It was pretty empty in here at 9 PM on a Saturday. My drink was supposed to have lemonade and 7 up in it (ride the lightning $6) but instead it seemed like a glass of liquor with some ice in it. It was undrinkable. The other people in my party thought it was a glass of water. There doesn't seem to be a consistent dress code, so it's hard to tell who is a server and who isn't, especially since the servers and hostess were sitting at the bar the whole time. The food was not up to the same standard as the downtown location. Just because this is the west side, doesn't mean that people don't expect a certain quality of food and a certain vibe. The whole experience was pretty unacceptable and I love me some dirty franks. Someone in our dining party (7 of us) compared the taste of the chili on their chili dog to paper. Yes, paper. The root beer floats ($6) were halfway full and absolutely not worth the price. I think that if some changes aren't made, this place won't be able to last. perk up the interior, the staff, the food, and then let me know. I'll be willing to give it another shot. I'm not hating on the location of this spot, I actually work on the west side, so I spend A LOT of time in this area and I love it, but I think it could be a lot better than it is. I'm not expecting it to be Cameron Mitchell, I realize that it's just hot dogs, but I don't want to be left with the feeling that I should have just taken my friends from out of town to McDonald's instead.

Who knew you could have the joy of dirty frank's without going downtown?! I discovered this location for a Saturday lunch spot with some friends. The space is at least three times the size of the downtown locale, but much of the feel of art on the wall remains the same. This is a great spot if you don't have an hour to wait in line or have a big group. That being said, this dirty franks location missed the mark of their big brother downtown. I order a "classy lady" which includes chips and cheese sauce. Downtown it is overflowing with chips, while here was a very thin layer and the bun fell apart mid way through. It was still good, but I will still prefer the downtown version - even if I have to wait.

Dirty Frank's West is unequivocally and unapologetically Westgate. I love it. I like the food at the downtown location, but I haven't been there in years. Have you seen the omnipresent line? It's a buzz kill, man. No hate if it's your jam--it's just not mine. If you're coming to DFW (not the airport) expecting it to be exactly like the DT store, you're not setting yourself up for the best time possible. The west side is a bit gritty, and Dirty Frank's reflects that. The building is pretty nondescript, and parking is either street or in the lot across Broad. The inside is huge! It's much, much bigger than DT, so that means less wait. The servers are all these cool ladies who have a vibe unlike any other part of the city. They're friendly and helpful, but not in a kiss-ass way. I'm down with that. As for the food, it's the same amazing, greasy deliciousness that the DT location offers. This isn't what I eat on the regular, but when you want a treat--this'll do the trick. I love that they offer GF buns, so I can actually eat a hot dog like a real person! My personal favorite weiner is the polish sausage. I'm also a huge fan of the beanie weanie and the tots. The decor reminds me a lot of the downtown Dirty Frank's--maybe a bit more sparse? Lots of people seem to note how loud it is and the hard surfaces... IDK... that kind of stuff just isn't all that important to me. Although the original Dirty Frank's is much closer to me, I will drive out of my way to DFW. A bigger space, cool people, and same delicious food? Yes, yes, and yes.

Lucky for me, I like a good hole in the wall. This place is a bit of a disaster, but kind of in that I-can-talk-shit-about-my-sister-but-you-can't kind of way. This place is my hot mess of a sister. Unlike downtown, there is never a line and plenty of seating. I will not wait in line for a hotdog. It is not going to happen. Also unlike downtown, no one is in a hurry and they always appear slightly understaffed. Plus, I am familiar enough around there now that they don't make much of an effort anymore- they know I'll be back. The food is just as good as downtown (IMO better). It is cheap. There is parking. Really, what are you other options at 8pm on a Wednesday night on the west side?

I always liked the downtown location but since DFW opened up I probably consume too many hotdogs. My recent discovery of the Dirty Sancho is a nice alternative to the hotdog menu. Of the hot dogs the Tatcho, Ohioana, and Picnic Table are my favorites. Tots are always Alex Style. Don't be afraid to bring a group to this "new" location as it has double the seating of the 4th street shop. Finally, there are a few more taps here, 14. Come get your drink on.

Who cares that this place is a dive in the middle of the ghetto... the food is the bomb. I get the "Dogs From Hell" or "Zippity Zam" bratwursts. They're amazing. The fresh cut fries are greasy and good. I'm a fan.

If I had to summarize this review, I'd say that this location seems mismanaged. It needs a serious overhaul. My friends from Cincinnati came to visit, and have all been to the original Dirty Frank's. Every one of us loves the downtown location, and every one of us was disappointed with the Westgate location. We went this past Saturday with a party of seven. I had to make a loop around the block, because I drove right past this place. The building it's in has a large sign for a martial arts class on the East side, so it's unclear that there might be a restaurant next door. Our party walked in, and the hostess told us to sit anywhere. Once she realized there were many of us, she changed her mind. "I guess I can get some tables together." Wow. That didn't seem very professional. While we were waiting, I took a look around. The art is a similar style to the downtown location, but much more sparsely laid out. The walls feel a bit empty, even though they aren't. Is this still Dirty Frank's? It felt a bit loud inside, especially considering that the place wasn't that busy. The music was a bit overwhelming because our server had trouble hearing us, and vice versa. Also, the floor was very slick and seemed cheaply made. In a few spots it was buckling. Instead of our server bringing our food, the hostess brought it. This is fine, except she only recognized about half of the dogs, and asked us what certain plates were. You work here, not us! Maybe she didn't, actually, because she spent most of the night at the bar chatting. The food was a mixed bag. My Hot Bollywood was perfect, and exactly the quality I'd expect. Things were looking better, until I tried the Westgate dog. Topped with soft pretzels that were very stale and chewy. Gross. However, the actual soft pretzels my wife and I ordered were awesome. Just like downtown. The tater tachos (deluxe) seemed normal, until we realized the cheese was underneath everything. Is that normal? All toppings on top, except cheese. That's weird. My friends didn't have a good time, and now I feel like a fool for not vetting this place before taking them. I will do due diligence and give it another shot sometime, but not until it's received a management shakeup. I want this place to do well, but can't rate it better than 2 stars.

I am trilled to see a trendy place in Hilltop! I think its hilarious that when I read about Dirty Frank's new location online it was referred to as Westgate instead of Hilltop... I tried two different all vegetarian dogs and split some nacho tots with my date. I would probably suggest one dog with that big of a side, even when we split it I had too much! I thought it was ok, nothing too fabulous but how wonderful that they even had vegetarian options! The only bad part of our meal was the funnel fries and I'm sure that's because we tried to do a take out order. Our waitress suggested it would travel well but I really wouldn't recommend it. By the time we ate them (30 min later) they were really chewy. Side note, I'd love to go back and try the slushy with added vodka! Seems like their bar menu was pretty good.

Love the food! I was excited to have Dirty Franks move to the Westside, and I wasn't disappointed! The service can be spotty at times, but the food comes out quickly, and is delicious!

Ok, let's just say this location to me is far better than the cattle herding, claustrophobic location downtown. So.. Could it be? A location not filled to the brim with hipsters, but ACTUAL working class families? Yes, Ways. And seeing that this side of town's main drag of broad street has seen much better days in a galaxy far away... it's honestly a breath of fresh air. I totally commend Liz Lessner for this. The dogs for me here though are really hit or miss. I think it's all about establishing your faves and holding tight to them. I loved the Westgate Dog. I loved the Slappy Pappy Dog. I HATED the Tatcho dog. Someone was being lazy on prep here, because the jalapenos were chopped extremely chunky, and it basically ruined it. Nobody wants to eat large chunks of raw jalapenos... NOBODY. The drink selections here are rather large, which was kind of cool. I mean, they carry Frostop Rootbeer, which is absolutely delicious, and Slurpies? Woah! This is one of those places that kind of make you feel like a kid again. Get down with your bad self, and order that dog with everything possibly unhealthy plus the kitchen sink. Don't forget the tots. I totally put myself into a food coma after eating here. It was absolutely and painfully delicious. 3.5 teetering 4 stars.

We were craving some hot dogs on Sunday, so my buddy and I took a trip to Dirty Frank's new location. Although I'm surrounded on all sides by Daredevil Dogs, Jailhouse Rock, and Loops, I hadn't been to the new Dirty Frank's, and every time I go to the original, it's impossible to get a table. Plus, my friend had never been to either. The place itself isn't in the greatest area, and if you didn't know what you were looking for, you'd probably drive right on by and not give the location a second glance. I actually really love the fact that it's hidden in plain sight. This space is much more spacious than the original and doesn't have nearly the amount of crowd, so it was super easy getting a table. Really, there was hardly anyone in there. The service was a bit slow, especially with refilling drinks. We ended up having to walk up to the bar in order to get our sodas refilled, so that was kind of annoying. Dirty Frank's is really hit or miss for me, and I ended up picking some solid dogs: the Chicago, the Slappy Pappy, and the Dog From Hell. Slappy Pappy's Super Sloppy, or the SPSS (not to be confused with the software), was by far my favorite, and my buddy tried it as well and agreed. The other two dogs were pretty good as well. My friend had the Picnic Table, Razzle Dazzle, The Nicola, which is a Greek style hot dog. The Razzle Dazzle was his favorite, and he thought the other two were just okay. Dirty Frank's puts out some good hot dogs, but to me, they're really just a Columbus staple more than anything. I don't think they have the best in town, especially with new places like Daredevil Dogs and Jailhouse Rock opened up, but they still have some great combinations you can't get anywhere else. If I'm in the area, I may head over for a quick bite, but there's just too many other great options near me to make the trip out to the Hilltop.

Went here for opening night just a tad later than your typical dinner rush. To my surprise, there was no line, and neither the dining room nor bar were full. We took a couple of seats at the end of the bar. There was some food gunk on the bar from the previous customer to sit here, and the bartender made no effort to clean it, even though I wiped away some food scraps from the armrest part of the bar while they watched. So I proceeded to clean the rest of the bar in front of me too. This was the only notch I'd knock points off of for the visit. Everything else went a-ok. The bartender was otherwise friendly, attentive, yadda yadda. We ordered some Alex style tator tatchos, which came out rapidly fast. They could have used a tad more cheese, but otherwise just what you'd expect from the og location. I perused the menu looking for differences between the two locations. One thing I noticed was the Westgate Stagger, a Burger Beer and a shot of Old Crow for $4. This is the brother to the Greyhound special at the 4th St. location. Additionally, there was a Westgate dog and some drinks I didn't recognize that I think were probably exclusive to the new spot. Also, some dogs you might remember or want from the downtown store are missing from the menu. They intend to eventually add some Westgate exclusives here, once they determine what the people want. We ordered some dogs to boot, just old favorites for me, and they came out fast as well and were on point taste-wise. Now for the ambiance/decor. First of all, one of my favorite things about Lessner's efforts is that she opens up shop in neighborhoods that could use a good lift. This is no exception. In fact, it might be the best location she's chosen since the original Dirty Frank's opened in terms of pushing the boundaries. This is not without it's inherent drawbacks. An intoxicated, bothersome townie tried to snatch my lady friend's iPhone off the bar next to her. He then interrupted our meal several times to make slurry, unwanted small talk. When he and two less-disruptive townies left, the bartender asked "did he leave?" We replied that yes, he had. The barkeep said "thank god; future banned person right there." We chuckled. I had been thinking the same thing, having watched any number of wandering drunks get thrown out of the 4th and Main shop. After I informed them of the phone incident, it was clear the guy would not be welcome back. Now, while that might sound bad, and it certainly would have been worse had he successfully snagged the phone, this just comes with the territory and I'll take it over this place opening somewhere like Grandview or even Franklinton, which I heard rumors would house this location before details emerged. On to the intended ambiance. The bar is very 70s/early 80s feeling. I imagine it was original to the location. It looks well maintained nonetheless and I enjoyed it. Despite a much larger dining area, there is much less art adorning the walls, although it is of the same vein. Speaking of that large dining area, there is a wall dividing the bar and some bar tables from a bigger main dining area. It has these cutouts that totally remind me of a Mexican restaurant. Wondered if the location housed one at some point. A few more things: - Unlike downtown, there is also free guest wi-fi, although it kept disabling on me and wouldn't work. - Has at least two TVs, more than downtown. - Tons of adjacent parking in vacant lot. - Currently only open 5-11, but will eventually be open for lunch and until midnight S-Th and 1am Fr/Sat Ah, one final detail....there is no sign out front! I wonder if one is coming, but currently there is just a nondescript metal door that you open and see a sign that says "hotdogs" with a picture of a hotdog. There are handwritten pieces of paper that say "Enter." I imagine there will be upgrades here. For now, it's kinda cool. Overall, a fine experience and I'll remind readers that three is a perfectly fine rating. Actually, I may go ahead and give it a four just based on location. I have no doubt that the two vacant storefronts next door will feature bars, restaurants or shops of some kind within three years thanks to Ms. Lessner. And for that, I thank her. But don't push out Yang and his Tae Kwan Do shop!

I feel like everyone I know has been to Dirty Franks...which has caused a problem. The original location is always packed to the gills. Good for them, bad for me and my friends who just want to gorge on hot dogs and tots. One evening my friend and I wanted some Franks before we went to the movies. We went to the original location and find that it was closed for an employee party. Again, good for them, bad for me. We took a gamble and drove the 15 minutes over to the West location. We REALLY wanted some hotdogs! It was just like the Franks we know and love but so much bigger and with NO WAIT. We we astounded. I got the Westgate dog, the only unique dog to that location. I've been back since the inital visit and I've gotten all my other favorites with good results. I love Franks to the moon and back--I'm not sure where people say that the quality has changed. I just wish that there was more dogs/other menu items unique to the West location that would bring me back for more. Either way, I'll mostly like make the West location my go-to now, since feeling like I'm being hustled out by the staring eyes of everyone waiting at the front has never been my thing.

I came here for an early dinner today. It's a little closer for me to go downtown but this is a lot handier. No worries about parking for one thing. I had a sauerkraut dog and a hot hollywood dog. I ordered the jumbo dog for both. I also got a lime slush. This is really good but it'll freeze your pipes if you drink it too fast. ;)

So, I currently live in the Hilltop and was waiting with baited breath for this location to open. I'm hoping that this restaurant will help to usher more bars/restaurants into the area. Anyway, I've been to this location three times since it has opened, and all three times I was a little disappointed. One time my hot dog was buried in 'slaw' that was almost completely dry and had no flavor whatsoever. All three times I had tator tots (because I'm borderline obsessed with them) that were way overcooked. Each time, the food came out to the table very quickly, but it seems like the quality of the food is slightly less than the original location. I can't speak to the other reviews I've seen that have complained about the service. At all of my visits I had different waitstaff, and all were attentive and accurate. The art and decorations are very similar to the downtown location, but there is ample seating space and a really cool old bar area. As far as parking goes, I believe you can now park on the street or use the hardware store lot across the street (check the facebook page for updates) but I normally walk there so I'm not entirely certain. I will continue to frequent this establishment, as it's still the coolest bar/restaurant within a mile of me. It's always affordable and has great drink options. I hope I have the opportunity to upgrade my rating in the next few visits!

I have just had a totally wonderful experience at Dirty Franks West. My last visit I bashed this place, but this time it reminded me of a real Chicago hotdog. The bun was properly steamed, the Vienna brand hot dog was snapped when you bit into it and the fresh cut fries were perfect. Cudos to the management for changing my mind.

I've only got carry out from here, as I work nearby. Food is just as good as expected, and always ready very quickly. I may or may not have grabbed a beer or two while I've waited. Bartenders have always been prompt and friendly. I'll continue to swing by on my lunch hour from time to time!

I can say I've finally tried this place. I probably won't go back, but it wasn't horrible. We walked in and the sign said to seat ourselves. First three tables without customers were dirty and/or had dishes on them. Got seated and our waiter was nice enough, just not personable. No smile, no chatting, no suggestions or asking if it was our first time to explain how it works. Not a big deal, he took care of what we needed. Ordered three different dogs and the kids had the octodogs. Food was warm, closer to room temp than hot. The mac and cheese was the worst I've ever had. It didn't seem like the dogs were high quality to me. I've had my share of good dogs and these just didn't compare. I like the variety of ingredients and the fact that you can choose how the dog is cooked. It was interesting. Just not somewhere I would go often.

Ah, more lunch meet-ups to catch up on! Dirty Franks is one of those places that Columbus folks rave about, and my reaction is just "ehhhh" (like Thurmans). I figured I should at least give the place a try, so I had a late lunch meet-up here earlier this week. I drove past once before realizing where the place was. Apparently you can no longer park in the vacant lot adjacent to the building, so I ended up parking on one of the residential streets. It was past 1PM on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded at all. I had a ginger ale, the brisket and slaw dog, and a side of the fried leeks. I was pleasantly surprised by the leeks, which were cooked soft on the inside and with a nice crispy exterior -- though my tolerance for fried food wore off about a third of the way through. The brisket and slaw dog was a bit of an odd combination. The brisket was a bit mealy and the coleslaw was more like cabbage confetti, so the textures weren't exactly what I was expecting. All in all, it's kind of a cool place and the concept is neat, but not my style.

I really like this new location. The place is much larger and easier to get a seat as opposed to the downtown location. The parking, while sketchy, is still better than having to pay. You still get the weird, wild, wonderful decor and ambiance. As for the food, it tastes like Dirty Frank's Downtown. The menu is a little smaller, but I didn't notice any favorites missing. Very good beer selection as well, which I would expect. It was too early for a beer, so I ordered a soda which came in a giant cup. I found this to be AWESOME because I can really suck down the soda and don't like waiting for refills. All in all, you really can't beat the value and uniqueness of this place. I rarely went to the Downtown location because it is too far and I don't like the big city. I will definitely be back to DF West more often.

Even though this Dirty Frank's is a little bit off the beaten path for me from where I live near the university, it's still easier to get to, easier to park at, and easier to find a table at than the downtown location, and so I've gone a few times since it opened. So regarding the dogs... your mileage may vary, as they say. I've had outstandingly delicious and decent-but-not-standout, but never half-bad. It balances out for me to "they're always good, sometimes great, and the prices make the gamble worth it." My favorite so far has been the Hot Bollywood, the only premium dog that comes with a veggie option. I also loved the Tater Tot-chos (deluxe style) I got with a plain veggie brat (The Glenn Beck) once. The bratwurst and Polish sausage options are well worth trying in place of the ordinary dog, whether you're opting for meat or veg. They seem a bit more -- how to put it? -- substantial to me. I order one dog and one side when I go and have always either struggled to finish it or taken a bunch home, and still the only time I've had a bill over $10 is when I've ordered alcohol with my meal. Really, there's no reason not to come here at least once. They're accommodating of dietary restrictions, tasty, and cheap.

I have been here once and I'm in love!! it's great because I am on a low-carb diet and they have a lettuce leaf option in replace of a bun!! So many options and they open up your culinary mind to all sorts of recipes! Great setting and very laid back atmosphere. Glad to find a place that plays decent music for once instead of the same thing as everyone else! Prices aren't too shabby either. Just wish there was better parking, but I still feel it earned 5 stars! Can't wait to go again!

Sat down and waited for 15 minutes to be approached. After placing drink and brunch orders (because the brunch menu was in the table) we waited another 15 minutes for further attention from the wait staff. The next thing we heard from anyone was that they were no longer doing brunch and "would we like to place a drink order?" Essentially the first server did not inform us brunch was no longer being served (or the second server lied because they didn't want to make the food) and ignored our drink orders. We walked out at this point. If you want terrible service and hotdogs you could make at home with a little effort, go here.

I'm waffling between three and four stars, here. YELP, HALF-STARS PLEASE OK. Went during dinner to meet hubs on his lunch break. Got seated and served a drink quickly while I waited for him. It was packed and loud, so loud. Both locations of DF are full of hard, sound-reflecting surfaces, which is part of why I only rarely go. It sounds like eating in a school cafeteria full of people who are so drunk that their threshold of what is considered interesting conversation has dropped considerably. Our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered (hubs sat there for awhile, ten or fifteen minutes, before our server noticed he'd gotten there, which would normally have been whatever but he was on a break so, time was running down). My food was so-so, under-seasoned and toppings were under-sauteed. His was better. The fries were good. Service was quick considering how busy it was, but I just don't see myself coming back here a lot, unless it's during off-hours and I want a cheap meal and drink, and my other cheap meal go-tos aren't open.

We love Dirty Frank's at there original spot and tried out the West side location in the Hilltop. Parking is either on Broad or outback. Vibe is different, fewer hipsters more grown ups. Can't say I love the location but I can say that I love the food! I will bring family here because this location has interior room and can swallow up the seating area of the 4th Street location 3 times over and have room to spare. Not hating on the hipsters, but my skinny jean days (if ever) are long since over, so I will be back to this location, the new D.F.W.! The walls are hanging in artwork of hair metal rock gods of the 80's, the food comes to you quickly and they have daily specials. Now if they could just get 16 bit to move in next store...

I had lunch here today. Second time being here. This place rocks! I ordered Puff the Magic Popper and fried leeks. Soooo good. I had to tell them light jalapeños though on my hot dog. The service here was way better than what I've had at the downtown location. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very welcoming from the moment I walked in, even giving my partner and I a heads up on the happy hour specials. We ordered a few autumnal Ohio drafts on the cheap, as well as a dog and a side each. Food came out super speedy and piping hot. There's also tons of space at this location. Even though I live much closer to the downtown location, I think it'll be worth the trip to come back West next time I need to satisfy a DF craving.

This is a great option to going all the way downtown for Dirty Franks!! Same great food, NO wait, larger area, less cramped eating area. It has the cool feel of an old bar, with a heavy old "bar door" and separated restaurant, bar set up. I am so happy I tried this place, it's amazing!!

I'd like to give this place a higher rating as I believe in Liz's concepts but this location falls far short of expectations in living up to the original. I've been here 5 times and its been fairly constantly bad. The Good: New foodie expansion trying to jump start an area of town forgotten by the city. Conceptually great. Has Booze. Clean bathrooms. The bad: Parking - used to be able to park in the empty lot but now the city has closed that off. Trying to find a spot on broad is iffy since the employees park in front. (I drive by this location several times a day an see the same cars there all day almost every day) Food - doesn't live up to the original location. Food is slow to come out and is either wayyyy over cooked (tater tots) or way undercooked (fries and dogs). It's a crapshoot if the bun is soggy and cold or stale. The Ugly: Service - entire staff needs lessons in service industry. They aren't rude per se (expect when they blame you for them not putting the order in right) but are basically bad. Employees and cook staff in and out constantly to go smoke outside or chat on their cells (and not washing their hands after smoking), ignoring tables, forgetting orders, look unwashed or unprofessional (tats and piercing are cool but put on a clean shirt or better yet get matching shirts so we can tell who is actually working there). I went In once and sat for 45minutes with no offer of food and drink (after about 10 mins of being ignored I wanted to test how long it would go) . Finally got up and left meaning the 4 of us walked out without spending the $100 or so on drinks and food that we normally drop. The floor/decor - super super cheap faux flooring is falling apart due to moisture. Guessing there is a water leak underneath that is causing the floor to buckle, bow, and feel like a wet sponge. It's really bad as in some spots someone is going to trip and fall it has buckled so bad. The art is cool and creepy but really for as long as it took to open they could have actually done something more than paint. Hopefully money will be reinvested to upgrade the bartop, tables, and bring in some natural light. I've lived in the westside for near 8 years and while I appreciate someone finally taking an interest here, doing it like this doesn't help much. It perpetuates the "just the west side" mentality from other people and the city.

Very happy with my first visit here. The staff was warm and friendly, the artwork intriguing and humorous, and the music playing was really nice, Marvin Gaye and the like. Let's not forget the food. Everything was quite delicious and even my kids who are horribly judgmental and picky gave it their approval. The only thing I would change is the coffee could be a little hotter. I appreciate the vegetarian and vegan options as well. Definitely coming back here.

Friendly staff, never as crowded as the main location downtown, and has a funky West-side feel to it! The paintings are fascinating to look at. It's easy to get your fill without spending too much. The only problem is parking, if street front is available there is no lot and you might have to park down one of the side streets!

So not a fan that I might just be considered an unfan. Last night was my second visit to DFWS. The first time I was super underwhelmed with Chicago dog. Some friends who adamantly love DF said that wasn't one of their best so I gave it another go. On that first Chicago- The relish on it was so, so sickeningly sweet. This coming from an NC born and bred southern gal. I do love sweet pickle relish, but damn. Last night I was also completely underwhelmed as well. With lowered expectations I went to DFWS again to give it another go. Fryer, totally not hot enough. Our tater tot/potato barrels were more like tiny little vessels for fryer oil. I ordered the chili mac (which lead to heart burn, but that's to be expected) and a dog with sirracha slaw. First off, sirracha slaw would be slaw goodness mixed in with the sweet chili goodness not drizzled on top. Nope, a line of it in the middle of the slaw dollop. Which, like the relish, too sweet even for the southerner. The kicker though was my dog. Was meant to be beef but it didn't taste like my friends dogs. Oh, it smelled like straight up spam. Like a school cafeteria 'mystery meat special' (Yes, I know and embrace what hot dogs are but damn, get some Hebrew Nationals, etc etc). I don't really get the love for this place, food cart hotdogs are better.

What a change in service :-/ Each time we visit this place there is nothing that is consistent. This evening service was terrible. Customers had to track down the server to pay and after waiting 25 minutes for our food and having others who arrived after us be served their food, we left. Highly doubt we will return and it's a shame because we were excited when we heard DF was coming to the West side.

To start off I have been to their location downtown and was much more satisfied. In this places defense, it's a new location and the staff seemed like it was still learning. Even though the menu said ask your server about daily specials, nobody knew about any specials. I had the Puff The Magic Popper and the Cowgirl Carmen. They both would have been very good but they seemed to be at room temperature. I am picky about the temperature of my food so this bothered me. The beer was cold and the tator tots were hot so no complaints there. I will be giving it another chance after they have been open longer.

We love DFW. We loved the original too, but once our family expanded to "2 adults and a high chair" status we never went back. I was over the moon with the new location to the west side area. I've read some of the poorer reviews and, although I can kind of see some of what they're saying to have a point, I just don't think it's enough to drop my rating. I'm vegetarian so I've never had the "real" dogs or brats. Seriously though. Do people actually go to DF/DFW for the quality of a hot dog? Do people not realize what goes in a hot dog? I go and I drag my family and visiting out-of-towners for the ambience, the cool factor, and the fact that we FINALLY have a family-friendly-don't-have-to-wait-forever-and-Âthey-have-a-bar-and-you-don't-have-to-go-downtown atmosphere. And I'll continue to do so. I have no major qualms about the wait staff. They seem to be about the same as the staff from any of Liz's other establishments and, if I'm not mistaken, some of them actually are from the other locations. If you are honestly going to DFW and expect Cracker Barrel service, THEN GO TO FREAKING CRACKER BARREL. My one and only complaint is the parking. And I know that's something that is being worked on. In my mind, I blame the karate place adjacent. All I've heard from everyone is that the studio complained about the parking lot suddenly being packed full of DFW customers, so the city came in and shut it down. I could be wrong, but I don't think DFW has all that much control over that situation. We have only gone in the evening and we're always able to find alternative parking (if we drive) across the street or around the corner. We'll keep going back!

Always yummy and friendly. Love the larger seating areas and staff. Once in a blue moon I will get a slightly cold dog but it's 1 out of 10 times. The Mac n cheese side is great minute the pepper garnish, not a fan. Tots are great too! Still need to try the fries. Polish dog is the way to go. Classy lady always fresh potato chips that are crunchy, same with cowgirl, love the razzel dazzle and slappy pappys. The bacon wrapped and lettuce wrap are also amazing and mouth watering. Awesome drink selection! Who has red soda, still? Dirty Franks! Great draft beer and bottle beer selection too. Parking sometimes is a bit of a challenge but worth it when you find a spot. Or just go at an off time, it's that tasty. Btw, ladies bathroom is always clean!!!!

Hot dog was nothing special; french fries were greasy and undercooked; cole slaw uninspired. Dirty Frank's West is the downtown DF's location's little sister, if that little sister was bigger, badder, and just as cool as her older counterpart. It is a bit difficult to find if you're looking for something splashy on the exterior. There is a sign for Mr. Wang's karate on the eastern exterior of a plain building - see that and you've found it. There is on street and some off street parking (we've parked at Hilltop Medical after 5pm with no issues). Rock and roll art decorates the walls, naturally, but local kid done good Michael Redd gets a big spot, too. There is a great bar area with tables AND a large dining room. I was close to dizzy with all the space to enjoy DF's unique hot dog offerings. Ok, I have tried all non-beef-containing iterations of DF's, and varied the types of dogs and preparations on several. (The Nicola with a ripped veggie dog - *finger kiss*) Most recent trip was for the Planned Parenthood fundraiser and we joined a group to nosh on: onion rings, French fries, pretzels (salty and spicy mustard and cheese and oh, baby), tater totchos deeelux, and Crew, Pittsburgh Princess, Chicago, Puff the Magic Popper and Real Man dogs. Oh, and beer to wash it all down smooth. Ok, I want to go back again, like right now.

It's solid good food. If you're expecting gourmet, you're in the wrong spot. Even though this Dirty Frank's is a little bit off the beaten path for me from where I live near the university, it's still easier to get to, easier to park at, and easier to find a table at than the downtown location, and so I've gone a few times since it opened. So regarding the dogs... your mileage may vary, as they say. I've had outstandingly delicious and decent-but-not-standout, but never half-bad. It balances out for me to "they're always good, sometimes great, and the prices make the gamble worth it." My favorite so far has been the Hot Bollywood, the only premium dog that comes with a veggie option. I also loved the Tater Tot-chos (deluxe style) I got with a plain veggie brat (The Glenn Beck) once. The bratwurst and Polish sausage options are well worth trying in place of the ordinary dog, whether you're opting for meat or veg. They seem a bit more -- how to put it? -- substantial to me. The bun was properly steamed, the Vienna brand hot dog was snapped when you bit into it and the fresh cut fries were perfect. Cudos to the management for changing my mind.

LOVED IT!! Everything about this place is awesome! The atmosphere, the music, the service, (too young for the alcohol, but the selection seemed amazing), and the fooood! There are sooo many types of dogs you can try or make yourself, the sides were great as well. I had the Fire on the Rhine(split and charred). Its topped with delicious spicy sauerkraut and just tastes god like. Its a great addition to the Hilltop/Westgate area and I think its going to do great. My family and I will be back soon!

Judging from a few of the earlier reviews it seems it was a good thing it took me awhile to get into this place, I am new to Dirty Franks in general I have visited the other location 3 times and this new location just once. Pros: Free parking, nice bar, lots of seating, friendly staff, cheap prices, great selection of beer and dogs so much that it takes me forever to make up my mind, lol. Cons: Floor was dirty where we sat, I found the food to not be as good, the front door slams very loud every time someone enters which is unsettling. Server was prompt to get to us. My guy ordered pop and then realized he meant to get the beer of the week and when he told the server this he was more then happy to get the beer and told us to just keep the pop. Granted the pop is already poured, but he was nice about it and handled it nicely. We always get the French fried with cheese and bacon (best I have ever had as I love the cheese they use) you can't beat the price I think it's $3. This time when they came out first thing I noticed was it was a smaller portion then in the past and it wasn't done very well and flopped to one side of the basket. It was covered in tasty bacon, but the cheese was not as saucy and that made me sad. I told the server I was torn between the West Virginia dog or the Slappy Pappy sloppy dog and he said the slappy pappy was the best so I went with it. I also tried it ripped which means fried, and I went with a normal dog when I usually get a brat. So while I wasn't happy with this slappy pappy I am not sure if it is because I changed the way I order or if it really is that deceptively flavorless, I mean it has chili, cheddar, fries, and sour cream, but I couldn't even taste the chili. It sounded awesome, but turned out a dud I didn't even eat it all. My guy always gets normal hot dog in the chili dog, but this time he went with a brat and had it ripped. He was happy with it. The art is great, the staff is great, the local music only is great, the atmosphere is great, and usually the food is great (at least at the original location), and the prices are totally awesome. This is closer to me so I will keep trying as I know they are still new and people are still learning.

While I have lobed dirty franks since before I moved to Columbus, this location didn't do it for me. Went with a group of five, to the other location and there was a wait so we all decided to dove to this one. Took a long time for service and we had about three different waitresses. I understand they just opened recently so that makes sense. But they also messed up the tables order. One person don't get their food until after everyone was completely done eating, and then it was even the wrong dog. Another friend received a veggie dog and did not order it. Took a very long time to get the checks and even did not receive change from one waitress. Really terrible experience this time around. Disappointed.

I've seen and heard mixed reviews about this place but every time I've been the service is friendly and prompt. I can see how on busier nights some can get lost in the mix. I tend to have "go to's" on menus at various restaurants and Dirty Franks is no different, I enjoy the "Classy Lady" which is a dog covered in cheese sauce and potato chips and "True Love Always," a dog topped with cream cheese and green olives. Two sides I enjoy are the tater totchoes and the Mac and cheese. My soda of choice is grape soda with free refills. They have a full service bar that features adult slushes, draft micro beers and retro cans like Burger and Schlitz. The music at this particular location seems to be a feed like pandora featuring top 40 and it clashes with the rap emanating from the kitchen, the parking could be better and the wieners could stand to be a bit hotter. Some balk at the decor, folk style portraits of rock stars and the antique bar original to the building. Given this neighborhood you'd think the clients would look past the decor and be grateful Dirty Franks is trying to improve the area.

We are so excited to see Dirty Frank's come to The Hilltop!! We had a friend in town and we usually have to drive to another part of the city for a unique dining experience, so it was nice to drive right up the street for a change. We went on Friday and the place was packed! Several folks were crowded in the doorway waiting for a table to open up and every seat at the bar was full. That was awesome to see! We only waited about 5-10 minutes to be seated. The menu has so many combos .. some familiar and some wild. We ordered some beers while we looked over the menu. The beer selection is really good! We ordered three different dogs - West Virgina Slaw Dog, Westgate Dog and a Sauerkraut Dog. YUM. They were all delicious. We ordered the salty pretzels, fried leeks and tots. The tots and pretzels were standard - hot and yummy. The leeks were AMAZING.. like a crispy, delicate onion ring. I highly recommend the leeks! We ordered some baklava to go, too and it was just right. The service was the best. I was worried since they were so busy and so new that the service might be lacking, but it was super in every way. So, we had ice cold beers, sloppy dogs, hot and crispy sides and some sticky sweet baklava for three for under $40. The decor alone is worth that!

I won't go back. We walk in sat at the bar and there was this awful noise coming from the kitchen. I asked my husband if it was a kitchen machine or music? The server heard us and said she hated it too and told the kitchen to turn it off because it was upsetting customers. The main guy said NO! She said YES and for a moment he did but then he spitefully turned it back on even worse. The noise was so awful and the guy in the kitchen was so RUDE we decided to leave. I really wanted Dirty Franks West to be awesome but all three times has just been awful. It's been dirty, the music painful and the dining room is like a Chucky Cheese on a bad day. Again, I won't go back.

I gave them another shot and it was much better. My son, granddaughters, and I had a pretty good dinner last night. The girls each got the very cool octopus hot dog served on a little bowl of mac 'n cheese. The tots were not overcooked this time (score!). The service was decent. The girls' lemonade was served in compostable cups (I love that); see photo. I've tried different dogs from their menu in the past and I think I found my favorite. The veggie dog with slaw and crushed potato chips was great. Bottom line: Good food, nice beer selection and a cool place to bring the kids.

Ok, let's just say this location to me is far better than the cattle herding, claustrophobic location downtown. So.. Could it be? A location not filled to the brim with hipsters, but ACTUAL working class families? Yes, Ways. And seeing that this side of town's main drag of broad street has seen much better days in a galaxy far away... it's honestly a breath of fresh air. I totally commend Liz Lessner for this. The dogs for me here though are really hit or miss. I think it's all about establishing your faves and holding tight to them. I loved the Westgate Dog. I loved the Slappy Pappy Dog. I HATED the Tatcho dog. Someone was being lazy on prep here, because the jalapenos were chopped extremely chunky, and it basically ruined it. Nobody wants to eat large chunks of raw jalapenos... NOBODY. The drink selections here are rather large, which was kind of cool. I mean, they carry Frostop Rootbeer, which is absolutely delicious, and Slurpies? Woah! This is one of those places that kind of make you feel like a kid again. Get down with your bad self, and order that dog with everything possibly unhealthy plus the kitchen sink. Don't forget the tots. I totally put myself into a food coma after eating here. It was absolutely and painfully delicious. 3.5 teetering 4 stars.

We were craving some hot dogs on Sunday, so my buddy and I took a trip to Dirty Frank's new location. Although I'm surrounded on all sides by Daredevil Dogs, Jailhouse Rock, and Loops, I hadn't been to the new Dirty Frank's, and every time I go to the original, it's impossible to get a table. Plus, my friend had never been to either. The place itself isn't in the greatest area, and if you didn't know what you were looking for, you'd probably drive right on by and not give the location a second glance. I actually really love the fact that it's hidden in plain sight. This space is much more spacious than the original and doesn't have nearly the amount of crowd, so it was super easy getting a table. Really, there was hardly anyone in there. The service was a bit slow, especially with refilling drinks. We ended up having to walk up to the bar in order to get our sodas refilled, so that was kind of annoying. Dirty Frank's is really hit or miss for me, and I ended up picking some solid dogs: the Chicago, the Slappy Pappy, and the Dog From Hell. Slappy Pappy's Super Sloppy, or the SPSS (not to be confused with the software), was by far my favorite, and my buddy tried it as well and agreed. The other two dogs were pretty good as well. My friend had the Picnic Table, Razzle Dazzle, The Nicola, which is a Greek style hot dog. The Razzle Dazzle was his favorite, and he thought the other two were just okay. Dirty Frank's puts out some good hot dogs, but to me, they're really just a Columbus staple more than anything. I don't think they have the best in town, especially with new places like Daredevil Dogs and Jailhouse Rock opened up, but they still have some great combinations you can't get anywhere else. If I'm in the area, I may head over for a quick bite, but there's just too many other great options near me to make the trip out to the Hilltop.

Since moving to Columbus, Dirty Frank's has become a household favorite. The fact that they offer more than one vegan hotdog option alone is amazing but most of their menu is vegan optional. I have had their vegan Chicago dog and it is delicious! It comes with all of the condiments you expect with just the right dash of celery salt along with fresh tomatoes, crisp pickles and a couple of spicy peppers for kick. When it comes to fried foods, they are my absolute favorite. They have great french fries but their tator tots and fried leeks are my favorite. They also make deep fried soft pretzels that come with a tasty spicy mustard. I recommend saving the cup for when your meal comes out so you can have some with your tots. The prices are great and service is friendly. It is a bar and the art is kitsch but it is still family friendly. Definitely give them a try!

Wow... I really wanted to try this location out because I have always been a loyal fan and patron of the original Dirty Franks. First thing: the only sign is right on the front of the building, so you can probably expect to drive past it. Next: the floors here are slippery and buckling like there is a water leak or something. The floor is made out of the lowest quality wood laminate flooring I've ever seen, and has a fake wood grain that makes it slippery. It's almost like this location was opened in a hurry and without a lot of planning. The walls are bare compared to the other location and the whole vibe is different. It was pretty empty in here at 9 PM on a Saturday. My drink was supposed to have lemonade and 7 up in it (ride the lightning $6) but instead it seemed like a glass of liquor with some ice in it. It was undrinkable. The other people in my party thought it was a glass of water. There doesn't seem to be a consistent dress code, so it's hard to tell who is a server and who isn't, especially since the servers and hostess were sitting at the bar the whole time. The food was not up to the same standard as the downtown location. Just because this is the west side, doesn't mean that people don't expect a certain quality of food and a certain vibe. The whole experience was pretty unacceptable and I love me some dirty franks. Someone in our dining party (7 of us) compared the taste of the chili on their chili dog to paper. Yes, paper. The root beer floats ($6) were halfway full and absolutely not worth the price. I think that if some changes aren't made, this place won't be able to last. perk up the interior, the staff, the food, and then let me know. I'll be willing to give it another shot. I'm not hating on the location of this spot, I actually work on the west side, so I spend A LOT of time in this area and I love it, but I think it could be a lot better than it is. I'm not expecting it to be Cameron Mitchell, I realize that it's just hot dogs, but I don't want to be left with the feeling that I should have just taken my friends from out of town to McDonald's instead.

Who knew you could have the joy of dirty frank's without going downtown?! I discovered this location for a Saturday lunch spot with some friends. The space is at least three times the size of the downtown locale, but much of the feel of art on the wall remains the same. This is a great spot if you don't have an hour to wait in line or have a big group. That being said, this dirty franks location missed the mark of their big brother downtown. I order a "classy lady" which includes chips and cheese sauce. Downtown it is overflowing with chips, while here was a very thin layer and the bun fell apart mid way through. It was still good, but I will still prefer the downtown version - even if I have to wait.

Dirty Frank's West is unequivocally and unapologetically Westgate. I love it. I like the food at the downtown location, but I haven't been there in years. Have you seen the omnipresent line? It's a buzz kill, man. No hate if it's your jam--it's just not mine. If you're coming to DFW (not the airport) expecting it to be exactly like the DT store, you're not setting yourself up for the best time possible. The west side is a bit gritty, and Dirty Frank's reflects that. The building is pretty nondescript, and parking is either street or in the lot across Broad. The inside is huge! It's much, much bigger than DT, so that means less wait. The servers are all these cool ladies who have a vibe unlike any other part of the city. They're friendly and helpful, but not in a kiss-ass way. I'm down with that. As for the food, it's the same amazing, greasy deliciousness that the DT location offers. This isn't what I eat on the regular, but when you want a treat--this'll do the trick. I love that they offer GF buns, so I can actually eat a hot dog like a real person! My personal favorite weiner is the polish sausage. I'm also a huge fan of the beanie weanie and the tots. The decor reminds me a lot of the downtown Dirty Frank's--maybe a bit more sparse? Lots of people seem to note how loud it is and the hard surfaces... IDK... that kind of stuff just isn't all that important to me. Although the original Dirty Frank's is much closer to me, I will drive out of my way to DFW. A bigger space, cool people, and same delicious food? Yes, yes, and yes.

Lucky for me, I like a good hole in the wall. This place is a bit of a disaster, but kind of in that I-can-talk-shit-about-my-sister-but-you-can't kind of way. This place is my hot mess of a sister. Unlike downtown, there is never a line and plenty of seating. I will not wait in line for a hotdog. It is not going to happen. Also unlike downtown, no one is in a hurry and they always appear slightly understaffed. Plus, I am familiar enough around there now that they don't make much of an effort anymore- they know I'll be back. The food is just as good as downtown (IMO better). It is cheap. There is parking. Really, what are you other options at 8pm on a Wednesday night on the west side?

Went here for opening night just a tad later than your typical dinner rush. To my surprise, there was no line, and neither the dining room nor bar were full. We took a couple of seats at the end of the bar. There was some food gunk on the bar from the previous customer to sit here, and the bartender made no effort to clean it, even though I wiped away some food scraps from the armrest part of the bar while they watched. So I proceeded to clean the rest of the bar in front of me too. This was the only notch I'd knock points off of for the visit. Everything else went a-ok. The bartender was otherwise friendly, attentive, yadda yadda. We ordered some Alex style tator tatchos, which came out rapidly fast. They could have used a tad more cheese, but otherwise just what you'd expect from the og location. I perused the menu looking for differences between the two locations. One thing I noticed was the Westgate Stagger, a Burger Beer and a shot of Old Crow for $4. This is the brother to the Greyhound special at the 4th St. location. Additionally, there was a Westgate dog and some drinks I didn't recognize that I think were probably exclusive to the new spot. Also, some dogs you might remember or want from the downtown store are missing from the menu. They intend to eventually add some Westgate exclusives here, once they determine what the people want. We ordered some dogs to boot, just old favorites for me, and they came out fast as well and were on point taste-wise. Now for the ambiance/decor. First of all, one of my favorite things about Lessner's efforts is that she opens up shop in neighborhoods that could use a good lift. This is no exception. In fact, it might be the best location she's chosen since the original Dirty Frank's opened in terms of pushing the boundaries. This is not without it's inherent drawbacks. An intoxicated, bothersome townie tried to snatch my lady friend's iPhone off the bar next to her. He then interrupted our meal several times to make slurry, unwanted small talk. When he and two less-disruptive townies left, the bartender asked "did he leave?" We replied that yes, he had. The barkeep said "thank god; future banned person right there." We chuckled. I had been thinking the same thing, having watched any number of wandering drunks get thrown out of the 4th and Main shop. After I informed them of the phone incident, it was clear the guy would not be welcome back. Now, while that might sound bad, and it certainly would have been worse had he successfully snagged the phone, this just comes with the territory and I'll take it over this place opening somewhere like Grandview or even Franklinton, which I heard rumors would house this location before details emerged. On to the intended ambiance. The bar is very 70s/early 80s feeling. I imagine it was original to the location. It looks well maintained nonetheless and I enjoyed it. Despite a much larger dining area, there is much less art adorning the walls, although it is of the same vein. Speaking of that large dining area, there is a wall dividing the bar and some bar tables from a bigger main dining area. It has these cutouts that totally remind me of a Mexican restaurant. Wondered if the location housed one at some point. A few more things: - Unlike downtown, there is also free guest wi-fi, although it kept disabling on me and wouldn't work. - Has at least two TVs, more than downtown. - Tons of adjacent parking in vacant lot. - Currently only open 5-11, but will eventually be open for lunch and until midnight S-Th and 1am Fr/Sat Ah, one final detail....there is no sign out front! I wonder if one is coming, but currently there is just a nondescript metal door that you open and see a sign that says "hotdogs" with a picture of a hotdog. There are handwritten pieces of paper that say "Enter." I imagine there will be upgrades here. For now, it's kinda cool. Overall, a fine experience and I'll remind readers that three is a perfectly fine rating. Actually, I may go ahead and give it a four just based on location. I have no doubt that the two vacant storefronts next door will feature bars, restaurants or shops of some kind within three years thanks to Ms. Lessner. And for that, I thank her. But don't push out Yang and his Tae Kwan Do shop!

I always liked the downtown location but since DFW opened up I probably consume too many hotdogs. My recent discovery of the Dirty Sancho is a nice alternative to the hotdog menu. Of the hot dogs the Tatcho, Ohioana, and Picnic Table are my favorites. Tots are always Alex Style. Don't be afraid to bring a group to this "new" location as it has double the seating of the 4th street shop. Finally, there are a few more taps here, 14. Come get your drink on.

If I had to summarize this review, I'd say that this location seems mismanaged. It needs a serious overhaul. My friends from Cincinnati came to visit, and have all been to the original Dirty Frank's. Every one of us loves the downtown location, and every one of us was disappointed with the Westgate location. We went this past Saturday with a party of seven. I had to make a loop around the block, because I drove right past this place. The building it's in has a large sign for a martial arts class on the East side, so it's unclear that there might be a restaurant next door. Our party walked in, and the hostess told us to sit anywhere. Once she realized there were many of us, she changed her mind. "I guess I can get some tables together." Wow. That didn't seem very professional. While we were waiting, I took a look around. The art is a similar style to the downtown location, but much more sparsely laid out. The walls feel a bit empty, even though they aren't. Is this still Dirty Frank's? It felt a bit loud inside, especially considering that the place wasn't that busy. The music was a bit overwhelming because our server had trouble hearing us, and vice versa. Also, the floor was very slick and seemed cheaply made. In a few spots it was buckling. Instead of our server bringing our food, the hostess brought it. This is fine, except she only recognized about half of the dogs, and asked us what certain plates were. You work here, not us! Maybe she didn't, actually, because she spent most of the night at the bar chatting. The food was a mixed bag. My Hot Bollywood was perfect, and exactly the quality I'd expect. Things were looking better, until I tried the Westgate dog. Topped with soft pretzels that were very stale and chewy. Gross. However, the actual soft pretzels my wife and I ordered were awesome. Just like downtown. The tater tachos (deluxe) seemed normal, until we realized the cheese was underneath everything. Is that normal? All toppings on top, except cheese. That's weird. My friends didn't have a good time, and now I feel like a fool for not vetting this place before taking them. I will do due diligence and give it another shot sometime, but not until it's received a management shakeup. I want this place to do well, but can't rate it better than 2 stars.

I am trilled to see a trendy place in Hilltop! I think its hilarious that when I read about Dirty Frank's new location online it was referred to as Westgate instead of Hilltop... I tried two different all vegetarian dogs and split some nacho tots with my date. I would probably suggest one dog with that big of a side, even when we split it I had too much! I thought it was ok, nothing too fabulous but how wonderful that they even had vegetarian options! The only bad part of our meal was the funnel fries and I'm sure that's because we tried to do a take out order. Our waitress suggested it would travel well but I really wouldn't recommend it. By the time we ate them (30 min later) they were really chewy. Side note, I'd love to go back and try the slushy with added vodka! Seems like their bar menu was pretty good.

I feel like everyone I know has been to Dirty Franks...which has caused a problem. The original location is always packed to the gills. Good for them, bad for me and my friends who just want to gorge on hot dogs and tots. One evening my friend and I wanted some Franks before we went to the movies. We went to the original location and find that it was closed for an employee party. Again, good for them, bad for me. We took a gamble and drove the 15 minutes over to the West location. We REALLY wanted some hotdogs! It was just like the Franks we know and love but so much bigger and with NO WAIT. We we astounded. I got the Westgate dog, the only unique dog to that location. I've been back since the inital visit and I've gotten all my other favorites with good results. I love Franks to the moon and back--I'm not sure where people say that the quality has changed. I just wish that there was more dogs/other menu items unique to the West location that would bring me back for more. Either way, I'll mostly like make the West location my go-to now, since feeling like I'm being hustled out by the staring eyes of everyone waiting at the front has never been my thing.

I came here for an early dinner today. It's a little closer for me to go downtown but this is a lot handier. No worries about parking for one thing. I had a sauerkraut dog and a hot hollywood dog. I ordered the jumbo dog for both. I also got a lime slush. This is really good but it'll freeze your pipes if you drink it too fast. ;)

Folks who review this place seem to graviatate to one extreme or the other: either they love it or they won't ever go back. Count me in the latter category. Hot dog was nothing special; french fries were greasy and undercooked; cole slaw uninspired. Waitress was good, and prices weren't bad, but one goes to this kind of place for the food, and it's not good. Don't believe the hype.

So, I currently live in the Hilltop and was waiting with baited breath for this location to open. I'm hoping that this restaurant will help to usher more bars/restaurants into the area. Anyway, I've been to this location three times since it has opened, and all three times I was a little disappointed. One time my hot dog was buried in 'slaw' that was almost completely dry and had no flavor whatsoever. All three times I had tator tots (because I'm borderline obsessed with them) that were way overcooked. Each time, the food came out to the table very quickly, but it seems like the quality of the food is slightly less than the original location. I can't speak to the other reviews I've seen that have complained about the service. At all of my visits I had different waitstaff, and all were attentive and accurate. The art and decorations are very similar to the downtown location, but there is ample seating space and a really cool old bar area. As far as parking goes, I believe you can now park on the street or use the hardware store lot across the street (check the facebook page for updates) but I normally walk there so I'm not entirely certain. I will continue to frequent this establishment, as it's still the coolest bar/restaurant within a mile of me. It's always affordable and has great drink options. I hope I have the opportunity to upgrade my rating in the next few visits!

I can say I've finally tried this place. I probably won't go back, but it wasn't horrible. We walked in and the sign said to seat ourselves. First three tables without customers were dirty and/or had dishes on them. Got seated and our waiter was nice enough, just not personable. No smile, no chatting, no suggestions or asking if it was our first time to explain how it works. Not a big deal, he took care of what we needed. Ordered three different dogs and the kids had the octodogs. Food was warm, closer to room temp than hot. The mac and cheese was the worst I've ever had. It didn't seem like the dogs were high quality to me. I've had my share of good dogs and these just didn't compare. I like the variety of ingredients and the fact that you can choose how the dog is cooked. It was interesting. Just not somewhere I would go often.

Ah, more lunch meet-ups to catch up on! Dirty Franks is one of those places that Columbus folks rave about, and my reaction is just "ehhhh" (like Thurmans). I figured I should at least give the place a try, so I had a late lunch meet-up here earlier this week. I drove past once before realizing where the place was. Apparently you can no longer park in the vacant lot adjacent to the building, so I ended up parking on one of the residential streets. It was past 1PM on a weekday, so it wasn't crowded at all. I had a ginger ale, the brisket and slaw dog, and a side of the fried leeks. I was pleasantly surprised by the leeks, which were cooked soft on the inside and with a nice crispy exterior -- though my tolerance for fried food wore off about a third of the way through. The brisket and slaw dog was a bit of an odd combination. The brisket was a bit mealy and the coleslaw was more like cabbage confetti, so the textures weren't exactly what I was expecting. All in all, it's kind of a cool place and the concept is neat, but not my style.

I really like this new location. The place is much larger and easier to get a seat as opposed to the downtown location. The parking, while sketchy, is still better than having to pay. You still get the weird, wild, wonderful decor and ambiance. As for the food, it tastes like Dirty Frank's Downtown. The menu is a little smaller, but I didn't notice any favorites missing. Very good beer selection as well, which I would expect. It was too early for a beer, so I ordered a soda which came in a giant cup. I found this to be AWESOME because I can really suck down the soda and don't like waiting for refills. All in all, you really can't beat the value and uniqueness of this place. I rarely went to the Downtown location because it is too far and I don't like the big city. I will definitely be back to DF West more often.

I'm waffling between three and four stars, here. YELP, HALF-STARS PLEASE OK. Went during dinner to meet hubs on his lunch break. Got seated and served a drink quickly while I waited for him. It was packed and loud, so loud. Both locations of DF are full of hard, sound-reflecting surfaces, which is part of why I only rarely go. It sounds like eating in a school cafeteria full of people who are so drunk that their threshold of what is considered interesting conversation has dropped considerably. Our food came out pretty quickly after we ordered (hubs sat there for awhile, ten or fifteen minutes, before our server noticed he'd gotten there, which would normally have been whatever but he was on a break so, time was running down). My food was so-so, under-seasoned and toppings were under-sauteed. His was better. The fries were good. Service was quick considering how busy it was, but I just don't see myself coming back here a lot, unless it's during off-hours and I want a cheap meal and drink, and my other cheap meal go-tos aren't open.

We love Dirty Frank's at there original spot and tried out the West side location in the Hilltop. Parking is either on Broad or outback. Vibe is different, fewer hipsters more grown ups. Can't say I love the location but I can say that I love the food! I will bring family here because this location has interior room and can swallow up the seating area of the 4th Street location 3 times over and have room to spare. Not hating on the hipsters, but my skinny jean days (if ever) are long since over, so I will be back to this location, the new D.F.W.! The walls are hanging in artwork of hair metal rock gods of the 80's, the food comes to you quickly and they have daily specials. Now if they could just get 16 bit to move in next store...

I have been here once and I'm in love!! it's great because I am on a low-carb diet and they have a lettuce leaf option in replace of a bun!! So many options and they open up your culinary mind to all sorts of recipes! Great setting and very laid back atmosphere. Glad to find a place that plays decent music for once instead of the same thing as everyone else! Prices aren't too shabby either. Just wish there was better parking, but I still feel it earned 5 stars! Can't wait to go again!

The service here was way better than what I've had at the downtown location. I sat at the bar and the bartender was very welcoming from the moment I walked in, even giving my partner and I a heads up on the happy hour specials. We ordered a few autumnal Ohio drafts on the cheap, as well as a dog and a side each. Food came out super speedy and piping hot. There's also tons of space at this location. Even though I live much closer to the downtown location, I think it'll be worth the trip to come back West next time I need to satisfy a DF craving.

I'd like to give this place a higher rating as I believe in Liz's concepts but this location falls far short of expectations in living up to the original. I've been here 5 times and its been fairly constantly bad. The Good: New foodie expansion trying to jump start an area of town forgotten by the city. Conceptually great. Has Booze. Clean bathrooms. The bad: Parking - used to be able to park in the empty lot but now the city has closed that off. Trying to find a spot on broad is iffy since the employees park in front. (I drive by this location several times a day an see the same cars there all day almost every day) Food - doesn't live up to the original location. Food is slow to come out and is either wayyyy over cooked (tater tots) or way undercooked (fries and dogs). It's a crapshoot if the bun is soggy and cold or stale. The Ugly: Service - entire staff needs lessons in service industry. They aren't rude per se (expect when they blame you for them not putting the order in right) but are basically bad. Employees and cook staff in and out constantly to go smoke outside or chat on their cells (and not washing their hands after smoking), ignoring tables, forgetting orders, look unwashed or unprofessional (tats and piercing are cool but put on a clean shirt or better yet get matching shirts so we can tell who is actually working there). I went In once and sat for 45minutes with no offer of food and drink (after about 10 mins of being ignored I wanted to test how long it would go) . Finally got up and left meaning the 4 of us walked out without spending the $100 or so on drinks and food that we normally drop. The floor/decor - super super cheap faux flooring is falling apart due to moisture. Guessing there is a water leak underneath that is causing the floor to buckle, bow, and feel like a wet sponge. It's really bad as in some spots someone is going to trip and fall it has buckled so bad. The art is cool and creepy but really for as long as it took to open they could have actually done something more than paint. Hopefully money will be reinvested to upgrade the bartop, tables, and bring in some natural light. I've lived in the westside for near 8 years and while I appreciate someone finally taking an interest here, doing it like this doesn't help much. It perpetuates the "just the west side" mentality from other people and the city.

This is a great option to going all the way downtown for Dirty Franks!! Same great food, NO wait, larger area, less cramped eating area. It has the cool feel of an old bar, with a heavy old "bar door" and separated restaurant, bar set up. I am so happy I tried this place, it's amazing!!

Very happy with my first visit here. The staff was warm and friendly, the artwork intriguing and humorous, and the music playing was really nice, Marvin Gaye and the like. Let's not forget the food. Everything was quite delicious and even my kids who are horribly judgmental and picky gave it their approval. The only thing I would change is the coffee could be a little hotter. I appreciate the vegetarian and vegan options as well. Definitely coming back here.

Friendly staff, never as crowded as the main location downtown, and has a funky West-side feel to it! The paintings are fascinating to look at. It's easy to get your fill without spending too much. The only problem is parking, if street front is available there is no lot and you might have to park down one of the side streets!

So not a fan that I might just be considered an unfan. Last night was my second visit to DFWS. The first time I was super underwhelmed with Chicago dog. Some friends who adamantly love DF said that wasn't one of their best so I gave it another go. On that first Chicago- The relish on it was so, so sickeningly sweet. This coming from an NC born and bred southern gal. I do love sweet pickle relish, but damn. Last night I was also completely underwhelmed as well. With lowered expectations I went to DFWS again to give it another go. Fryer, totally not hot enough. Our tater tot/potato barrels were more like tiny little vessels for fryer oil. I ordered the chili mac (which lead to heart burn, but that's to be expected) and a dog with sirracha slaw. First off, sirracha slaw would be slaw goodness mixed in with the sweet chili goodness not drizzled on top. Nope, a line of it in the middle of the slaw dollop. Which, like the relish, too sweet even for the southerner. The kicker though was my dog. Was meant to be beef but it didn't taste like my friends dogs. Oh, it smelled like straight up spam. Like a school cafeteria 'mystery meat special' (Yes, I know and embrace what hot dogs are but damn, get some Hebrew Nationals, etc etc). I don't really get the love for this place, food cart hotdogs are better.

What a change in service :-/ Each time we visit this place there is nothing that is consistent. This evening service was terrible. Customers had to track down the server to pay and after waiting 25 minutes for our food and having others who arrived after us be served their food, we left. Highly doubt we will return and it's a shame because we were excited when we heard DF was coming to the West side.

Vegan vegan vegan vegaaaaaan. Yeah it's maaad vegan!! The menu is plainly listed and never endingly vegan. Also it's cheap. Like 2.50 for a dog? Yes please. The tater tots were a little bleh, but whatever, I totally ate them all. Duh. Plus, theres a waiter, so don't get confused about what to do. Just pour over that whacky menu til someone pulls an order out of you. This location rules. Lots of street parking, totally warm and huge inside. You might as well make an adventure out of it. I did.

We love DFW. We loved the original too, but once our family expanded to "2 adults and a high chair" status we never went back. I was over the moon with the new location to the west side area. I've read some of the poorer reviews and, although I can kind of see some of what they're saying to have a point, I just don't think it's enough to drop my rating. I'm vegetarian so I've never had the "real" dogs or brats. Seriously though. Do people actually go to DF/DFW for the quality of a hot dog? Do people not realize what goes in a hot dog? I go and I drag my family and visiting out-of-towners for the ambience, the cool factor, and the fact that we FINALLY have a family-friendly-don't-have-to-wait-forever-and-Âthey-have-a-bar-and-you-don't-have-to-go-downtown atmosphere. And I'll continue to do so. I have no major qualms about the wait staff. They seem to be about the same as the staff from any of Liz's other establishments and, if I'm not mistaken, some of them actually are from the other locations. If you are honestly going to DFW and expect Cracker Barrel service, THEN GO TO FREAKING CRACKER BARREL. My one and only complaint is the parking. And I know that's something that is being worked on. In my mind, I blame the karate place adjacent. All I've heard from everyone is that the studio complained about the parking lot suddenly being packed full of DFW customers, so the city came in and shut it down. I could be wrong, but I don't think DFW has all that much control over that situation. We have only gone in the evening and we're always able to find alternative parking (if we drive) across the street or around the corner. We'll keep going back!

Always yummy and friendly. Love the larger seating areas and staff. Once in a blue moon I will get a slightly cold dog but it's 1 out of 10 times. The Mac n cheese side is great minute the pepper garnish, not a fan. Tots are great too! Still need to try the fries. Polish dog is the way to go. Classy lady always fresh potato chips that are crunchy, same with cowgirl, love the razzel dazzle and slappy pappys. The bacon wrapped and lettuce wrap are also amazing and mouth watering. Awesome drink selection! Who has red soda, still? Dirty Franks! Great draft beer and bottle beer selection too. Parking sometimes is a bit of a challenge but worth it when you find a spot. Or just go at an off time, it's that tasty. Btw, ladies bathroom is always clean!!!!

To start off I have been to their location downtown and was much more satisfied. In this places defense, it's a new location and the staff seemed like it was still learning. Even though the menu said ask your server about daily specials, nobody knew about any specials. I had the Puff The Magic Popper and the Cowgirl Carmen. They both would have been very good but they seemed to be at room temperature. I am picky about the temperature of my food so this bothered me. The beer was cold and the tator tots were hot so no complaints there. I will be giving it another chance after they have been open longer.

I love Dirty Frank's downtown - on the very few occasions I could get in to the place. Imagine how thrilled I was, as a Hilltop resident, to find out they opened a location a mere 5 minute walk from my home! Thank you for picking the Hilltop as your location. I certainly appreciate having a fun place to go for Happy Hour or dinner in my own neighborhood. We certainly need some quality businesses up here! Most of the downtown favorites are on the menu with some new, neighborhood-inspired favorites. Additionally, they have some more options for side dishes and desserts, including a gluten-free brownie. The beer selection is outstanding and cheap! I had the best chocolate stout! And they had a beer from Deschutes Brewery, from my former home, Oregon. The staff is very nice. The place is much larger, but it was crowded the entire time we were there (6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.). That's great to see. Unfortunately, parking is an issue, but you are now allowed to park across the street in the Dominos/Children's Hospital/Buckeye Ranch/Post Office lot. Thank you to those entities for allowing free parking for the time being. There is still street parking, as well. Our group of three each had 2 dogs, so six different varieties, and each had a different fried side. All were tasty, fresh, hot and cheap! Our group of 3 ate and drank for $25, excluding tip. Great price for 2 hours of friendship, food and fermented beverages! Thanks for coming to the Hilltop. I look forward to my next visit!

One of the best hotdog joint I've been to in columbus. Went there with my son. We sat at the bar while waiting for our carry-out. I didn't even get to order a drink they were already done with our order. The food were delicious. I've order a few dogs in the menu but particularly for me was the Chicago dog. Also my boyfriend and I went to the one on S. 4th Street and they never fail us. Everything were great and they had a good mix drink selection. Happy customers here

Very disappointed. This was our first visit to this location. They had one person working both the bar and tables and she had only been there for 2 days. So needless to say the service was very slow , was never offered refills on our drinks and took forever to get our check. I really blame management for that. However the food was also disappointing, nowhere near as good as what we had at the other location. Doubtful that we will ever go back to that location.

Went for lunch. Had two "the real man" vegan brats and an order of fries. The veggie chili was bland and the sauerkraut didn't really pair well with it. I must've got a bad batch of fries. They were way overcooked, brown colored, and had an off taste. Think they forgot to salt them too. Side note: there were pieces of brisket on the brats. It was like they made a brisket dog and then made my vegan ones wearing the same gloves. Not sure how they wouldn't notice. Eaten at the fourth st location maybe like 10 times. It's usually alright. Every couple of times though it's a real miss and I think to myself "I'll never come back here." I think people like the idea of this place better than the food. The bloody Mary's are good.

My husband and I used to really love this place and went practically every week when they first opened. The last several months the food has been consistently below average. Generally it comes out cold and you never know what you're going to get. Tonight my surprise was the jalapeños cut in pieces so large no one could possibly eat them, and onions cut into big chucks as well. I had to ask for a knife to cut the toppings into edible pieces, and this is what was sent out after asking for them to make it "light on the jalapeños". The cheese sauce on my dog was so dark my husband thought it was spicy brown mustard. I order the same thing each time, and sadly it never seems to come out the same. This was the last try for Dirty Frank's West. I gave it five or six chances to redeem itself and it just keeps disappointing. The servers are nice, but it's not worth it.

My boyfriend and I ate there for the first time the other night. Love the atmosphere & decor. The food was food was pretty good too. Love the location because it's in walking distance from my house.

I love the downtown location and was happy to venture to the West Side to try this one. It was a Saturday afternoon and it was dead - which was fine by me. The vibe was different. Not much in the line of customer service....and the food arrived ice cold. Not understanding that since there were only 3 tables of people including us. It was still tasty...but a cold hot dog...ehh. I almost said something...but the staff was borderline unapproachable....I'll stick to the downtown location for now

Larger space then the downtown location. Free Parking lot. Great for the family. Hot dogs that rock (of course) make sure you try the Westgate Dog.. It's like a baseball game in your month, and RC cola to drink!!!

Service wasn't great on a busy night. And my food came out cold. When it was fixed, the food was excellent. I had the Westgate Dog with a brat and charred, as was recommended by the server. It was a great recommendation. The food was great when they got it right and the beer selection is very good. Prices are very fair and I think once the kinks are worked out of this new location, I will be a frequent patron.
