This is my favorite neighborhood bar. The bartenders are attentive and the beer is cheap. There's plenty of space for darts or seating in the booth area, depending on what you're in the mood for. The TVs are good for watching games and there's a great selection on the Touch Tunes. It's my go-to spot for ending a night out or grabbing a casual drink and catching up with my neighborhood pals.

Wow- what a cool little dive bar in the heart of the German neighborhood of Columbus. I visited a friend who lived downtown and we decided to walk the four blocks to this place after looking it up on Yelp (thanks!). A very old, more traditional neighborhood place, I really enjoyed the vibe and had a great time at the dart boards with our group. After having a couple of good local beers and chatting up with the other patrons (who all seem from the neighborhood and were really helpful in recommending a close a good dinner place), I didn't want to leave! Our group almost stopped in again after dinner, but decided to crash for the night. If I ever find myself in Columbus again, I'll make a point to stop in again. The two small complaints I had about this place is that they didn't serve any food (other than the beef jerky they offered us!), and the quality of the bathrooms is.... not so good. But overall, a really cool little place.

Keep your manicured nails and your purse dog at home. Low Beck is a salt of the earth neighborhood bar. Call it a dive, call it a hole in the wall...it's really not either. This is just a bar that is well...a bar. This is exactly what you're supposed to walk into when you want to have a couple beers and laughs with the boys. This is exactly the type of place that you take your girl to knock back a few. This is the type of place that doesn't feel contrived or fake. The inside is old, wooden, dank and bristling with welcoming regulars. We were actually waved in from one of the regulars while we were looking for a watering hole (Thanks Steve...enjoyed meeting you!). We enjoyed conversation with a few regulars and got to learn a little about Tom, our bartender (wicked glasses by the way!). This place has cheap drinks, great conversation, a great atmosphere, and televisions tuned to sports. I'm not really sure what you could dislike about this place unless your nose is pointed past 9 O'Clock. Try: Bellying up to the bar and conversing with the regulars Avoid: Using the restrooms if you brought your purse dog

I don't want to say it because word will get out, but this is my favorite dive bar in Columbus. My go to place to play darts.

Was assaulted for saying the wrong thing(:() to a bartender. Great dive, the ambiance isn't complete until you're physically removed. Would come back again and again.

Beck Tavern (colloquially 'Low Beck') is my favorite go-to bar in Columbus. This place is the perfect example of a straight-up dive hovering satisfactorily above hole-in-the-wall. There's a smell, but only sometimes. It's cheap, but the selection is good. The bathrooms are a bit rickety, but they are always clean and I never have to wait. Low Beck has a consistent regular crowd, but there is also a good mix during the peak bar-going nights. The jukebox is one of those mega search online digital numbers, so there is always a wide variety of tunes playing. TVs for sports, excellent and non-annoying service, dart boards, and enough seating all make for the best of low key bar experiences. Hope to see you there - I'll be the one with the Maker's Mark, straight up.

What a great place! Local bar. No pretentiousness. We were from out of town and were made very welcome by Shifty. Came two days in a row. If you want to get away from it all, this is your place. Neighborhood is beautiful. There's a nice quiet little park just blocks away.

Oh Beck Tavern, If only.... When I was a younger man this was the kind of place I would have loved. Too bad I am 59 and struggling with gout or I would load up on the food and beer and - well - you get the picture. The people are nice here. If you go alone and try to talk to the women, they can be a bit standoffish but there's always someone who will talk with you there and thats what makes it so cool. Get a Yuengling and just mingle with the patrons. A polite "Hello, ladies!" will get you farther than some line you used back when you were young. I try to be patient and stand by a group of gals until they feel comfortable enough to say hello or move away. There's plenty on tap if you are with the missus, she can get a wine or something. It isn't much of a talk kind of place but you can have a conversation if it isn't too loud.

Looking for a nice "cheers" style dive bar? Look no further! Becks or "low Beck" is a great beer and shot kind of place. They have a decent sized bottle selection and around 8 taps. Don't expect anything fancy, but do exepect to not have to spend an arm and a leg to have a good time.

Low beck is a hole-in-the-wall bar that looks rough on the outside, but packs a great atmosphere on the inside! With multiple TVs, 3 dart boards and a cool jukebox, this place has a very welcoming feel. If that's not what gets you, then go visit Mike the bartender! He's a great guy that makes the bar that much more appealing. Prices are really good ($2 for some domestics; at least on weeknights), seating is decent (bar stools and some extra seating) and street parking (could be limited around GV on a busy night). Definitely going back!

Loved the feel and friendliness of this bar. The $1.50 Yeunglings didn't hurt either! Jukebox had all kinds of good music. I wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood.

New to Columbus and this is one of the reasons I'm starting it like it here. This is the sort of bar you wish you lived within walking distance of especially on a snowy Saturday. Very low-key and very warm. friendly layout inside and great staff. Just a great place to unwind and have a drink.

I have been going to the Beck Tavern since the mid 90's and now I live around the corner. I am not entirely certain why we started frequenting the Beck, but, I am pretty sure it has something to do with the fact that it is the quintessential dive bar. All through College this was where we all knew to meet the night before Thanksgiving... It was and is a tradition! Everything from the sign outside screams dive bar! When I walk in the bar it feels as if I am walking back into 1995... Absolutely nothing has changed (aside from the new Juke box, Mega Touch machine and newish dart boards). The bar hasn't changed in over 15 years.... the oddly shaped booths in the front and the back are favorite spots for meeting a group. I can sit at the Beck Tavern for hours playing PhotoHunt or playing a heated game of darts. If you are looking for ultra friendly service.... this is not the place. If you squirm in a less than clean bathroom... Go somewhere else. If you are looking for fruity drinks, a wine list or micro brews... I also suggest looking elsewhere. The fact that it is equipped with cold beers, Darts, Mega Touch and a great Juke Box keeps me coming back. The Beck Tavern is a German Village staple!

First stop in C-town for bar life. Been going there with our small town 'click' for years, '80's on. We were known and treated like friends. You like diversity, any one or anything? Live here. I need to get over there. Been a while.

Love this bar. It is very divey but is a great place to have a beer and relax. Never been there for a Buckeye Game, but it seems to have enough TVs to watch one there. Three Dart boards and always some good micro beers on tap, which is not usually expected at a place like this. Great feel and atmosphere, a bar you can actually hang out at and speak with those you are with.

I spent last night at Beck Tavern with a group of friends (including the famous Cheryl H. from our very own Yelp community) drinking and soaking in Beck's ambience. Despite my confusion between High Beck (at High and Beck) and Low Beck (this Beck), I managed to find the right place. I was thrilled to see some old favorites on tap--like Bell's Two Hearted Ale--and a new favorite, Abita Turbodog. It's a little dark and a little grungy like all dive bars should be, but perfectly comfortable and ideal for a Wednesday evening in the company of friends. Tucked away in the heart of German Village, you should stop in and settle in for a drink or two some evening soon.

if i lived in german village, i think i would make it a point to become an institution at this bar. it is a dive. the table in the front was obviously custom cut for the space its in, yet it constantly feels like its going to tip over. there's darts, pool, and a jukebox. we went on st patricks day, there were maybe 2 other people there, and there was an announcement on the jukebox about how no one was allowed to play any irish music. THIS is the kind of bar i want to hang out in, not the kind with weird signature cocktails, holier than thou attitudes, and popped collars.

Let me tell you about Beck tavern. It is AWESOME!!!! Mike behind the bar is the most personable bartender I have met... Beers are cheap, environment is great, and free darts. Overall the place is great. Plus the bartenders are from the neighborhood which makes for a more homey feel...
(5)Lydia J.
Best dive bar in the neighborhood. Such a warm, cozy, rowdy place to be! Big Buck Hunter, darts, a reasonable craft beer selection on tap, and walking distance from home make the "Low Beck" my go-to spot.
(5)Doug O.
I've lived in German Village for 6 years before finally coming in here. What a huge waste of 6 years! Cold beer, friendly bar tenders, Golden Tee Live, real dart boards, and TVs to watch a game. No food, bummer, but a few snacks of chips and such.

Ah, Beck's. You're A-OK, for sure. This place is ridiculously close to my house, so I've ended up here with friends when we're not quite ready to go home yet (but probably should), or have already been imbibing at my house and feel the urge to go out but not far (but we probably shouldn't). The vibe: Divey, which is funny considering the multi-million dollar homes it neighbors (not my house). The clientele: Regulars; old German Village Rats. The booze: Bell's Two Hearted on tap!!! One time I locked myself out of my apartment and had to go to Beck's to wait for a friend with a spare key. I think if I hadn't had this experience there, I probably would've given it an extra star. First, there were just a bunch of dudes there by themselves. It was clearly a stop off before these dudes went home to their wives, girlfriends, kids, or... maybe they just didn't want to go home and be alone yet. But it was pretty weird and sad. One guy had just come from a hockey game and just wanted to talk about hockey, but no one else did, so he just started shouting stats at the TV. Another dude was asking every other patron for a cigarette, and then overly talking to them afterwards. The bartender and another patron exchanged glances while the dude went outside for a minute, and said "I don't think he's really after a cigarette." I'm kind of dumb when it comes to these underbelly affairs... so I wonder what this guy wanted. Sexual favors? Drugs? Even though I was the only lady in the place, and it was extremely weird and depressing, I still feel like this is a safe environment (rest assured). Anyway, I think I'll continue to enjoy chilling here with friends, preferably under the influence of an adult beverage or two *before* I walk in. Also, if you're meeting friends here, be sure to clarify that it's the Beck Tavern at Beck and 6th, not High-Beck at, well, High and Beck (which is slightly more well-known). I have friends who differentiate the two by calling the Beck Tavern Lo-Beck. Finally, as the weather gets nicer, I'll probably find myself at the Lo-Beck a little less often as I opt for patios. It's a great den of warmth in the winter, though.

I've been here once and I'm officially in love. What can I say, I'm a romantic - I fall fast. I think I knew I had serious feelings about Beck when an old, overweight patron entered without a shirt and surgical tape over his nipples acting as pasties. Yup, that was the moment. I don't go out on the weekend usually, because even the dives tend to draw a bigger, more irritating crowd, but I came here on a Saturday night from 9-12ish and found myself with a small crowd of folks who left my rowdy party of 5 in peace. - Two Hearted on tap. Always a must for any place I'm going to call my own. (Also spotted a Goose Island tap... 2 more I didn't take stock of) - Readily available nearby street parking, unlike the rest of German Village. - 100% dive vibes, without the smelly, stickiness that often accompanies that I'll be back, Beck.

My favorite "dive" bar in all of Columbus just try it out, you will be hooked after the first time you go, great date spot, that is if you want to be able to hear everything your date is saying while enjoying a nice old jukebox and possibly a game of darts.

This is the very first bar I went into upon moving to Columbus. How could I not? It's a few blocks away and came highly recommended by my parents from when they lived here 30 years ago. Following a bar recommendation from my parents was my first mistake. This bar probably looks the same as it did 30 years ago, but I didn't find that to be an advantage. It seems run down in the middle of gorgeous surroundings. I don't think they serve food at all. The night we went and asked if they served food, they pointed to a tub of hot dogs in one of the booths that were free. No, thank you. The regulars that were there were crazy loud with really cringe-inducing conversations that I would prefer not to overhear. It is super dark and kind of gloomy on the inside. I should probably give this place another try. After all, they do have a ridiculously long happy hour from 2-8pm with $1.50 domestics if that's your thing. The service was friendly as well. There is clearly a reason this place has stayed in business for this long I just need to figure it out...

Shh is a cute little hole in the wall bar. Good drinks and a juke box is never a bad thing. However $1 charge for credit usage is. I wasn't ready for that one.
(3)Joel C.
Not bad, not great. This is a nice place that just needs at least one more person at the bar to make it great.
(4)Nate R.
Great place to chill and super low key. Becks also has cheap drink prices and a decent selection of craft brews. Full of cool people on weekends and the regulars on week nights. For me, this is a true hidden gem in German Village. One of the regular bartenders even looks a little like Stephen Segal. He's fun to talk with.
(4)Craig L.
Yes, it is a good thing that the bartender looked at me funny when I asked for a Rusty Nail. He knew what it was, he just wasn't sure they had Drambuie. Once he found it he was sure when it had last been opened. After he got it open he gave it the ole smell test to make sure it was still good. Somehow, all of these things help Beck Tavern. Well, that and the $3 price tag. Other perks? They have a great juke box and just enough light to play a game of euchre while you drink. Beck Tavern, Divey, just the way I like it.
(4)Heather T.
The Beck Tavern is delightfully divey and cheap. Dark with a smell but it's a great place to get a cheap drink. The only food is pretzels and chips. Bummer.
