My first time here and the staff were very friendly and everything was wonderful. I got the banana split and my mother got the lemon meringue and we both loved it!

Let's be honest, it's pretty hard to screw up ice cream...but you can tell Honey Hut definitely is good quality. But beyond that, this place is definitely a staple of the Old Brooklyn area and a legend in it's own right. I only go once every couple of years but it definitely never disappoints. Best part about this particular location is it's outdoor seating area.

Absolutely amazing. Their ice cream is to die for. I had the banana split and it was a great portion. I got mine with butter pecan (my favorite), honey Graham, and vanilla... All three flavors were amazing. If this place was in my city i would be going all the time.

People that I know are from the Cleveland area tell me they've never been here and I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. Yes, there are a ton of other ice cream spots in the Cle area that are also really good, but Honey Hut is a tried and true standby. No gimmicks, no funky flavors, just sweet, delicious ice cream. If there is a particular season flavor you like you have to get there at the beginning of the month, otherwise it will be gone. That's my one complaint about this place, and the sole reason I'm giving it four stars. There have been many times we have come even on the second WEEK of the month, and they are sold out for good of the monthly flavor...and those flavors only come around once a year. When I asked why they don't just make more to last throughout the entire month, they just said they make a limited amount of each flavor. Seems a little counterintuitive to me, especially since people come specifically to try those particular flavors. All criticism about limited flavor availability aside, this place is great. I absolutely love coming here in the summer and sitting out on the "patio" to eat my ice cream, and this place will always have a special place in my heart.

I really like their ice cream but, ice cream has gotten to be very expensive. Not long ago what used to be a medium size became the large and the price went up. If you don't care about the price then this is a great place.

The Best Ice cream, in town! Great place to bring the kids, and have a good time. The staff is very kid friendly.

Amazing local ice cream chain in the greater Cleveland area. They have some signature flavors (orange blossom, chocolate pecan) as well as the familiar flavors. They also have sundaes and other sweet concoctions. The line is usually long, but they generally have enough staff so I've never waited too long. The main downside is that there is no indoor seating area, but ice cream is best on a hot day anyway! Also, sometimes people smoke in the area where you wait in line and sit which I just find to be rude but I guess it's allowed. If they could put a no smoking sign, I'd give it a fifth star!

Great little place. I recommend the honey pecan with an extra side of their perfectly roasted pecans. Yum!

Simply the best strawberry ice cream around! I'm usually a mint chocolate kind of guy, but at this place I always go for the strawberry! I've had a few other flavors here but they just don't compare. The strawberry ice cream is unbelievably smooth and creamy. It has just the right amount of sweetness and tartness from the frozen bits of strawberry. Best of all, this place is very reasonably priced compared to Sweet Moses or Mitchell's. I recently found out that they offer an even smaller portion than the junior, dubbed the "golf ball" for only $1! Great for days where you want dessert but still full from dinner/lunch/breakfast.

I went here many times when I was little, but hadn't been back for awhile. I'm now too lactose-intolerant to eat non-fermented dairy and they don't have frozen yogurt :( However, if you are in my boat or you are a vegan, they have a few alternatives! I got a fruit smoothie which, yeah, was just a fruit smoothie, but it was really good. They also have a couple Italian flavors. I had a little of my friend's ice cream and it was as great as I remembered. Bringing some Lactaid next time.

Best ice cream ever. The only bad thing is that they close for the winter. Their chocolate peanut butter ice cream and pumpkin ice cream are to die for.

I'm not much of an ice cream person. Actually, I could probably do just as well without it. My wife, however, falls a wee bit toward the other end of the spectrum. This is how we found our way to the Honey Hut in Cleveland's Old Brooklyn neighborhood on an unseasonably warm early May evening. The smiling bee, staring at two scoops, finger on his chin, ponderous, beckoned us closer. It's small. Not really much bigger than a two-car garage. And it's wracked with Cleveland character. From its beginnings as a cobbler's shop to their use of honey as the ice cream's sweetener there's no denying the Honey Hut's got it. A testament to their success can be seen in their multiple locations around northeast Ohio, 5 to be exact with a sixth on the way in Brunswick. I've only been to a couple of them but the Old Brooklyn shoppe, the original, should be your first stop. But what about the product? As I said before, when it comes to ice cream I can take it or leave it but even I have to give them credit. This stuff is fantastic. Smooth, creamy, sweet, fattening and flavorful. It has everything you could ever want in a homemade ice cream. The honey definitely adds depth and the unique flavors (coconut banana cream anyone?) push them over the top. Banana splits, sundaes, shakes, malts, and monthly seasonal flavors ( honeyhut.com/pdfs/Flavor… ). We sat on one of the benches just around the corner and watched the people. Cleveland's roly-poly population, aware but not caring that there's a junior size cone, waddling up to the windows, black yoga pants stretched to their limits, screaming kids dressed in soccer uniforms dragging their dads, dogs licking little vanilla bowls, tiny picnic tables for the toddlers (or adults that want to feel like giants), outrageously loud Harley Davidsons rumbling down State Road. The cold, melty ice cream, so sweet my teeth scream, mingles with the atmosphere and makes for lasting Cleveland memories. It's no wonder so many people are in love with Honey Hut. I think I've got a bit of a crush myself.

Deliciously unique flavors of ice cream, with a facade that is a throw back to the 1960's. If your visiting cleveland this place is a must.

Solid tasty ice cream with such pleasant customer service. Somehow coming here feels like being in the late 1980s. It's so clear that this place is about the ice cream. No gimmicks or frills. No "hip" additions like kale sprinkles. It's the excellence of ice cream.

Full disclosure: I used to work at Honey Hut years ago. I love Honey Hut, the owners, the company atmosphere, everything. I could probably ramble on for days, but I'll cut it short. In summary: HONEY PECAN IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, THE LIFE.

Delicious as the last few times! I can't get enough of Honey Hut. Whenever I am in the area, I MUST stop by! Believe all the 5 star reviews. This place is so worth it!

Here I am sitting, sitting in my living room in San Diego, when I notice that my father has just checked in at Honey Hut. I literally gasped out loud in jealousy. I grew up going to Honey Hut. My family lived in Hudson, and would make the 40 minute drive on a pretty regular basis during season. Even after they started opening other locations, like the one in Brecksville, the State Rd location remained our favorite spot. There's just something about the walk up counter, the old picnic tables out front, even the brick road in front of the parking lot. What a perfect way to spend a summer evening. Honey Hut is more of a comfort food to me than a bowl of soup is to a sick person. A couple times when I was home from college visiting my parents, I actually loaded a cooler full of ice and Honey Hut and then drove as fast as my car would let me to get back to North Carolina before it all melted completely. Whenever I bring out-of-towners to Cleveland, a stop at Honey Hut is always on the agenda. I've even been known to wait a week before flying out to Cleveland, just to make sure Honey Hut was open. If they ever decide to expand their franchise, I'd be happy to open a location wherever I happen to be living at the time :)

Holy crap. I'm hesitant to declare anything the best, but this is seriously the best ice cream I've ever had. I ordered one scoop Chocolate Pecan, one scoop Banana on a waffle cone. I love waffle cones, but they're also the more structurally sound choice here--the scoops are really too large to be adequately supported on the regular sugar cone. Flavor: full and with real ingredients. The banana scoop had actual bits of banana and tasted like real banana. The chocolate pecan had entire salted pecan halves embedded throughout creamy, rich semisweet chocolate. Sweetness: not cloying or overwhelming--honey really does give just the right amount of sweetness. Texture: not too hard but not too soft, didn't melt easily, refreshing, creamy with slightly icy texture without inducing brain freeze Price: one order comes with 2 generous scoops for under $4. Crowd: I went on a Sunday night; the lines were pretty long but it moved fairly quickly. This is a real mom-and-pop gem no chain can ever replicate. The quality even tops my all-time store-bought favorites, Ben and Jerry's and Mövenpick. I only wish there were a way to send a couple quarts back to my peeps in LA! I'll definitely be back to try the monthly special flavors--can't wait till October to try their cinnamon, pumpkin, and coffee scoops!

Honey Hut is good stuff. It's perfect for the beach! Their ice cream is so creamy and delicious and cheap but not overly sweet. I could tell that they used pretty good ingredients. I tried the fresh banana and mint with some friends... delish! Orange blossom sounds good too. Read Lin's review :)

    (5)
  • Funglin W.

Best ice cream I've ever had! The orange blossom and fresh banana flavors are to die for! It's $2.60 for a "small" but they give you a huuuuugeee 2 scoops of ice cream! Honey Hut seems to be known for their honey pecan flavor which was a bit sweet for me but everybody LOVED it. They have a honey hut location at Edgewater Park which is where I tried it and all my friends and I got different flavors. I'm definitely impressed to know that such good ice cream shop exists in Cleveland!!

I grew up eating Honey Hut Ice Cream and for my high school years was honored to scoop up cones in blue and red Polos. That being said I think that my love HH Ice Cream is completely unbiased and totally true to the customer service and amazing taste. Best tip to know is that a single scoop is two scoops and a double is four. You can always mix two flavors and to be honest its easiest to eat in a cup, but if you prefer the crunch get a cone in a cup. Have a big group or want to try yourself out for man vs. food get the destroyer. It is basically Godzilla's banana split and unless you can eat it fast will turn into soup on a hot summer day. I remember coming to Honey Hut on the last day of school every year with my friends and devouring the destroyer in minutes. My favorite creation is honey pecan with red raspberries and hot Carmel.

Another old time Cleveland classic!! Brings back so many great memories of childhood. As a kid my church was right down the street. And every Sunday we'd end up there after service. As great as their honey pecan is (THE BEST) I don't think their strawberry shortcake gets enough love. It's the perfect mix of strawberries and vanilla ice cream. And that nice surprise of the cake on the bottom. M m m. Sooooo goooood.

MMM-- So good!! I asked John S. for places to go while I was in Cleveland, and he suggested going to Honey Hut. So when my friends and I had some time on Saturday night, I insisted we try Honey Hut. When we got there around 9pm, there were a lot of people lined up for ice cream! I asked one of the workers what is the most popular flavor, and she said Honey Pecan. That settled it-- I ordered Honey Pecan in a cone. For $2.35, you get two big scoops of ice cream! The ice cream was sweet, creamy and decadent, with lots of big pecan halves. They use honey instead of sugar, and you can tell. They probably use whole milk and tons of cream, but hey-- it tastes delicious! You could tell it was quality ice cream. If Honey Hut was in California, I know I'd gain 20 pounds or so. Big props to John S. for the recommendation!

Honey Hut: a staple of my child that I blame for my ice cream addiction to this day. 10-15 flavors of 'hard' ice cream (by hard, I mean that the ice cream can be packed into a cup, unlike a frozen soft-serve), my favorite is orange blossom. The ice cream is good and has a different taste because it's made with honey (it's a positive taste). Plus, there's 'special' ones that rotate each month [graham cracker ! pumpkin !] My only complaint on the ice cream is that the mint has chocolate chips in it :( The lines can be long...My sisters complained the cashiers have become slower over the years (they used to work there) but I haven't noticed although they were flighty my last time there. The prices are reasonable. A 'single' is actually two (large) scoops for 2.65 or so and increase every summer. (full disclosure: I worked there for one summer making the ice cream, almost 10 years ago. I realize reviewing such a place is technically against yelp rules, but I want to add this place to my list of Old Brooklyn places !) (This review is only for the Old Brooklyn location).

I'm not even a little ashamed to admit that I've flown 3,000 miles primarily just to get some Honey Hut. Unlike most things from my childhood, the Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream is just as good as it is in my memory. The Honey Pecan and Mint Chocolate Chip are also favorites, but the Chocolate Peanut Butter is my no-brainer death row last meal (well, the desert at least). The strongest praise I can imagine is this: Every time I eat Honey Hut ice cream, I seriously consider moving back to Cleveland from San Francisco.

Now that it is Fall, give the seasonal flavors a try. The pumpkin and pumpkin pecan are scrumptious.

Another Yelper find! Loved the chocolate pecan. A little on the sweet side though. One cup is good enough for me and my wife to share. .. again the whole neighborhood feel is here. Cleveland Rocks!

Grew up with this absolute hidden gem of Cleveland food. I can't really say much more than whats been said before. I mean, if every review is basically the same so far... well its basically true. It was made even MORE 5-star worthy with the inception of the Original May Company malt, aka quite possibly the greatest malt in the history of malt-dom, What flavor is it? Vanilla? Chocolate? NO. Just malt. Honey Hut is a bit of a "locals only" kind of place, but once you try it... You'll be back enough times to be an honorary Brooklyner. Sorry, Mitchell's. Honey Hut still has my heart.

Good stuff: This place has the best ice cream in all of the Cleveland area. Awesome hard serve homemade flavors......honey pecan, cinnamon, pumpkin, all great. Huge portions (get the kiddo size unless you want to be stuffed or split the single with someone else). Surprisingly inexpensive compared to other ice cream places. Bad stuff: The area can be a bit shady. But this location is by far the best I think. Cost: Cheap. Especially for the quality of ice cream they serve and the size of the portions. Overall: My favorite place for ice cream in the Cleveland area. If you like hard serve ice cream check this place out- they beat all the rest.

What can I say? We mark Honey Hut's opening day on our calendars. We like all of their flavors.

The best ice cream period! I grew up on Honey Hut -- we used to walk there on many a summer night. Now when I visit home it's a must go to treat. My favorites are Orange Blossom and Chocolate Peanut Butter (although not together). They have so many great flavors it's hard to decide.

Based on the plethora of 5 star reviews, I really wanted to be blown away. What I got was a solid homemade ice cream experience. Better than Dairy Queen, but not the finest ice cream I have ever had. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? (Butter Pecan sundae). Regardless, it's solid.

Simply put, the best ice cream in Cleveland or anywhere else.

    (5)
  • Alter K.

Great homemade tasting ice cream - a bunch of locations around the Cleveland area. If you just want some honestly good ice cream - vanilla that tastes like vanilla, honey pecan where the pecans are still crispy, strawberry that takes like real strawberries - this is the place to go. So hard to find naturally good ice cream ... we wait all winter after downing overly processed and engineered ice cream for Honey Hut to open!

    (5)
  • John S.

There's nothing like small-town ice cream on a hot summer day in Cleveland, and there's nothing like Honey Hut, whose ice cream is flavored with honey, not sugar. If you like ice cream, check this place out.

  • Barb S.

I'm going to Honey Hut in Brecksville later this evening and if you are a peanut butter chocoholic you have to try the peanut butter fudgie sundae! It's the best chocolate peanut butter ice cream topped with hot fudge and the best peanut butter sauce. Decadent and delicious. I have never had anything bad here and if you're going to splurge on some high fat ice cream this is the place!!

    (5)
  • Johnny A.

Great ice cream can indeed be found here! Their honey pecan has become a weekly staple for me now. The blueberry sundae is also off the hook crazy good.

  • Jordan T.

It's ice cream. Definetly ice cream. Same stuff that comes out of the carton at any supermarket. Great place to grab a malt, float, or shake, but with all the places serving home-made signature recipe ice cream in Cleveland Honey Hut just doesn't top the list.

where do I start...... in Ohio all that is passed of for Ice Cream is basically 2 percent milk frozen....NOW...Ice Scream...I scream, we All Scream for ICE CREAM..LOL..... there is no other...in Philly you have Ginos as a landmark philly steak sandwich, in Wisconsin CHEESE RULES....in new York Hot Dogs..in CLEVELAND OHIO ... old Brooklyn to be exact, which in itself takes your mind bac to 1900s... many brick streets still here, old ladies with babushkas sweeping the curb in front of there house.. a place where folks actually use the thing called a porch, sit outside and gab with the neighbors...THEN GOD DECIDED TO BLESS US EVEN MORE! Hoey Hut was born on the 8th day!!... I always get the strawberry shortcake...2 soft cakes on the bottom huge scoops of heaven..er I mean ice cream and plenty of strawberries..also, the occasional celebrity drops in...Indian baseball players, Browns...and DREW CARREY..a native old brookliner, he still owns his moms house and stay there when in town...so Hipsters, Jocks, red necks and hillbillies... you will be impressed!

In the midst of the cutthroat competition of the restaurant business, if a place is around for years and years, it must be doing something right. Honey Hut certainly fits this description, serving up some delicious, affordable ice cream. Coming back to Cleveland for a visit, a quick stop at Honey Hut is just the thing I need to relive fond memories. They still make some excellent Strawberry and Honey Pecan ice cream. And the servings are still just as generous--and the prices not much higher. I'm not a huge fan of their cones as the massive mounds of ice cream have a tough time not falling. There's ample outdoor seating, but it's a walk-up counter, so the weather needs to be nice. I guess that's why Honey Hut's closed in the winter--though I wish they weren't so I could get my ice cream fix anytime of the year. And if you've never been here, you better start going now so you can relive the good memories later!

Honey Hut is simply the best. This place has the best honey pecan. Order scoops with a waffle cone and absorb the frozen nectar of the gods. True story, I once had a dream that Jesus and I went to the Honey Hut. after we ordered everyone followed us down the brick road street starting at the corner. Amazing. This place is great for milkshakes too. Truly a can't miss opportunity for you. This place is very good and therefore a common sighting place for obese Clevelanders in perspired tanktops. Doesn't bother me at all, it's that good. I am filled with peace after I eat the ice cream. We can talk philosophy at the picnic table and have a great time. I miss you let's go get some ice cream.
