Casual. Great New York style pizza. Pepperoni is great!

Grew up in Queens and it's amazing to have finally found Good pizza in the Cincinnati area. Their regular pizza is so good it makes me wish they had some more options but I understand the market is quite limited out here. The decor cracked me up the first time I went in because they nailed "New York" pizzeria down to the style of tables/booths. As soon as I walked in I knew I was home and the pizza would be great!

Born in Brooklyn; raised on Long Island; lived in Manhattan; live now in Cincinnati. If you want pizza that really looks, smells, and tastes like one from NYC, this is it. And I can tell you an objective reason why this is so. The ovens. "Fly pie" uses real pizza stainless steel gas pizza ovens like pizzerias in NYC. The only thing that makes it "NY style" and not all NY is they don't import NYC water to make the dough like some places in Miami, FL do. The NYC water is what makes NY pizza and bagels NY pizza and bagels. But water aside, Fly Pie's pizza rocks. Cheese is low moisture mozzarella and is plentiful as it should be. Crust is independently tasty and foldable, just the right level of crispness (ovens again). The oil (pizza juice) has the right orange hue and should not be dried with a napkin before consuming. Also, they serve pizza by the slice as in NYC's finer pizzerias. I love that-for lunch or for dinner if you do t need the classic 8 slice pie. You'll never go back to LaRosas. Promise!

Finally real New York pizza in Cincinnati! Reasonably priced, great food I would crawl to this place for the pizza.

New to area, have been here twice. Sicilian style is no joke. Very thick crust, fills you up faster than you think! The New York style pie much more my speed. Thin, bendable, east coast for sure! The best part this place was the father and son running it. Hand tossing dough in the window and helping me carry pizza to my car in the rain!! This is why I like family owned places, service means more to people vested in the place. It's not fancy, but it's a good place, we'll be back.

This place is really good if you are in the mood for this type of pizza. I like their pizza and I will be back.

the best in Cincinnati hands down. All you need is a cheese pie. Family ran. Rob is the man

This is the real deal. Authentic NY style pizza. Not a fancy place but a true place. Highly recommended for those looking for a good, real NY pizza.

Amazing pizza, authentic NY style. Owners are fantastic and remember their customers. We stop in frequently for a take out slice, always cooked to perfection, hot and cheesy. You can't go wrong here. Best pizza in Cincinnati

This is the best pie in the city, and it's not close. We actually prefer to have them make our NY style a little light on the cheese which causes the crust to crisp up really nicely. You don't go for atmosphere. It's hard booths, vinyl tile, and fluorescents. But it just doesn't matter. Get sliced meatballs on your pie.

This is as close to NYC pizza as you can get when you consider ambience and pizza together. The pizza is authentic and they also offer Sicilian style thick crust, which I have not seen in Cincy before. Single slices are available. They have a small menu but the sausage, pepper & onion sandwich is next on my list. The storefront is typical for a NY pizza joint. Hard booths and no frills. About $20 for a 9 slice traditional Sicilian pie with no additional toppings. Make sure you consult their hours before considering placing an order as they tend to close earlier than most places. A diamond in the rough for re/dis-located East Coasters looking for a taste of home.

I came to this place with high expectations...when you hear of lots of cherries bring a small basket. Lets start with the positives: good sauce, good crust (very good crust--nice crisp outer with a good amount of chewiness. The negatives were its downfall--too much doughiness internal to the pie (not a very thin crust at all), the toppings were awful (canned mushrooms, pepperoni didn't have the crispness you'd expect), and there was a bit too much grease atop the pie.

Flying Pizza has a very authentic NY pizza joint feel. Small, hard booths, lots of families, and an old Italian grandpa stretching out pies behind the counter. The smell of pizza permeates the dining area with a welcome aroma. It's just a very, very comfortable atmosphere. FYI, this is an order at the counter, clear your own table place. For dinner, we ordered a Sicilian & NY style pie to sample, both with the old reliable cheese and pepperoni. The NY Style crust was amazing, but don't expect a thin, foldable crust. This is a more homestyle, hand-tossed pie. The crust alone was actually some of the tastiest hand-tossed I've ever had. In contrast, the Sicilian's crust was overdone--hard bottom, hard edges, and a dense, tough interior. My mom would kill me, but we tossed almost the whole pie. The cheese on both was fine. Neutral and served its purpose. It was the pepperoni though that really bugged me. It tasted like ham! I know that it wasn't, but none of could get past that flavor, especially on the Sicilian where the toppings weren't very cooked. Boiled ham? Eww. Overall, I'd definitely go back and get the "NY Style" again...sans pepperoni. Other points of note? Well, it's on Fields Ertel. Not close for us downtown folk and a street that is a known traffic nightmare. Also, for "soda snobs," this is a Pepsi establishment. However, they have all the major Brooklyn Brewery beers in bottles, so why drink pop anyhow?

This place is near my office - when i show up ;-) it is ideal for lunch since they serve pizza by the slice (large slices = 2 papa john's). The pizza has a thin crust and in the Classic New York style. I have been to 3 locations (OSU Campus, Bethel (CBus), and this one). They are all consistent and I believe that is because all 3 owners are related. If you want to close your eyes and pretend you are in New York - have this pizza (Okay that may be a stretch - but it is really good pie).

Great NY Style pizza. The kind u need to fold taco style to eat. Great sauce with ample cheese. Breadsticks were not impressive but pizza is certain to rank in your top 5 in the area.

Oh, how I missed my Flying Pizza. I talked my wife into bringing it home tonight, and I was in heaven. It's just as I remembered, and full of flavor. Unlike several of the other reviewers, my favorite is the Sicilian pizza. Skip the thin stuff and get it thick and tasty. The crust and toppings were perfect. Since my wife was bringing it home, they even undercooked it so we could finish the baking at home and have a perfect za. I may not know authentic NY pizza, but I know what I like, and this is absolutely one of my favorite pizzas. How I wish I had known they were in Cincinnati earlier.

Holy crap this pizza is awesome!!!! One of the best New York styles in Cinci! I only gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because I feel like they close too early and it's not that convenient. But the actual pizza is amazing!

Great slice of pizza. Cooked when I ordered not pre cooked.

We have had both carryout and eat-in meals from the Flying Pizza on several occasions. First I'll start with the food: the pizza is good, and huge. If you order a large, it's bigger than what you will likely be expecting. Lots of cheese, good crust. The meatball hoagies are excellent! I get mine with cheese & banana peppers, and they're delicious. The carryout is quick. My big complaint is the hours! They have always been closed on Sundays, and I can honestly say that in my home, we have pizza at least every other Sunday, if not every single Sunday. With football, busy weekends, hangovers, etc, isn't it the perfect pizza day? So we are always disappointed when we remember the Flying Pizza is closed. Now, they are also closed on Mondays! Ummm... Monday Night Football?!? Anyone? On the days they are open, they close very early as well, I want to think it's at least 8:00 p.m. So you better be ready for the early bird special, because after 8:00, no dice. If you can get there on their schedule then you will enjoy it!

There are times when I literally crave Flying Pizza. NYC PIZZA BY THE SLICE!! The thin crust has just the right amount of crispy outside and soft, chewy middle. They have a great deal for lunch special that's a pretty good value. Both the sausage & pepperoni and the mushroom and pepperoni are great slices. The owner is straight up. No frills, WYSIWYG. I've been going in for years, so he'll BS with me a LITTLE. But he's there to sell you pizza, not make friends. Fine by me... he's a good guy who knows his craft well. The place is simple. You're there for the food. Get in. Get your food. Get out. Also, don't ask for grated parm... it's an insult. But you can shake some extra garlic powder on top, but take the daggone shaker back to the counter pronto. If I have to go hunting it down all over the place to use on my own, someone is gonna' be sorry. I'll pay double for Flying Pizza over half price at La Rosa's. Is that enough of an endorsement?

There are three Dayton area locations, and two in Columbus, but there is just one Flying Pizza in the Cincinnati area: off Fields Ertel Road and across the street from Sam's Club and Meijer. Flying Pizza is a New York Style pizza place, not something you see too often in Cincinnati. I've driven by it many times before, but tired of subs/sandwiches, Skyline, and Wendy's I decided I would check out "Fly Pi." I wasn't all that hungry so I just ordered one $2.70 NY style slice of pepperoni (employee recommended that instead of a Sicilian square pizza slice being a first-timer). I enjoyed the slice which was very hot and fresh, and it wasn't "slimy" with the cheese falling off or anything like that. It's definitely a nice alternative for lunch if you are in a hurry and don't want to wait 15 minutes for a small pizza at Larosa's or pay for a more expensive Dewey's pizza. Instead you can you grab a quick slice or two from Flying Pizza for a good price, while you can also order whole pizzas too. Flying Pizza isn't one dimensional and also offers the aforementioned Sicilian slices, hot Italian sandwiches, calzones, and breadsticks, as well as some bags of chips and there is a freezer full of ice cream too. They also serve some beer and wine in addition to the typical "sodas" (insert your preferred name for soft drinks here). The set up is nice too with booths and a television near the front, while the walls have several New York City photos on them. It wasn't busy when I went in, but they are a lot busier on Friday and Saturday nights I was told. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Flying Pizza and I'm definitely interested in coming back. The service was also great. Even though they weren't busy and I was the only customer by the time I ordered, they were very friendly and answered all my questions.

I'm a huge fan of NY style pizza. and as far as pizza goes this place is darn good. while some people tend to focus on toppings, my gauge for how good a pizza is is the crust, this one is perfect. a bit chewy, NOT BUTTERED, and amazingly tasty. I had two slices of cheese, then i went back for one more! it is the best NY style pizza i've had in town. Read reviews on how fountain drinks refills were not free.. i had no idea! not that it's a deal breaker for me since the cup isn't exactly tiny. I chatted with the owner and was kinda happy that he's actually Italian from Sicily (and even knows how to speak it.. i tried.. lol) The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is the ambiance, the decor looked like a cheap chain.. i tend to like the homey feel which this place doesn't have.. but hey, that's just me.. and again.. THE PIZZA IS GREAT!

Good New York Style pizza. I think it is one of the better pizzas in the Cincinnati area. I personally like thinner but bigger slices. I also personally like the combination of peperoni, mushroom, and olives. Hope that someday makes their lunch special.

  • Mike K.

it was good. I mean, the crust was a bit chew-ier and tougher than NY pizza...but I guess its as close as i'm going to get over here. If I had this place when I first moved here I probably wouldve been harsher, because I was ignorant and how terribley Cincinnati does pizza but after being here awhile i realize its as close as i'm going to get. I am very interested in trying the scillian one day. Why can't it just be exactly NY pizza? Why can every street corner in Long Island do it right but no place in Cincinnati can even come close? Guess it really is the NY tap water

As a former New Yorker (the Bronx), I always want to know if "New York style" food places actually remind me of home. I am happy to report that Flying Pizza (not just this one but the Dayton ones, too) is as good as some of the better pizza places I grew up enjoying. Excellent cheese slices, and not only do they have genuine Sicilian slices (square cheese slices, not those weird meat-bearing things other pizza places serve), the Sicilian pieces are as good as almost any from NYC! I don't often have reason to go to Fields-Ertel, but I am always willing to take a detour if it means I can eat at Flying Pizza. It's not just New York-style; this is the real thing! Soda refills are 40 cents, but consider that the pizza is cheaper than slices at a (far inferior) Sbarro's, and it's a wash.

Flying Pizza gets good marks in my book. While there, we saw some flying pizza dough. Very cool. We had slices and some calzone. Both were good. The only con was charging for fountain drink refills - ($0.40). Not that bad but it adds up for a family. First refill could be complimentary IMHO. I guess this will be our first time to NYC. LOL

Flying Pizza is my favorite pizza place in all of Cincinnati. The restaurant itself is a little hole in the wall in a stripmall but it is perfect for a quick lunch by yourself or friends at the office. This is the best New York style pizza that I've found. I grew up on the east cost and have missed a true New York pie since moving to Ohio. This is both authentic (bubbles in the crust! foldable slices!) and affordable. Their lunch special is 2 slices and a drink for $6, which is a much better deal than places like Sbarro. Give it a try the next time you're in the area!

Love love love this place! It really is the perfect New York style pizza. Loved when I walked in for the first time I could immediately tell it was a very family oriented place. I would hope to see this place catch it's big break as it provides the best pizza I have had in Cincinnati.

Yes, in theory pizza could be lumped together in an "Italian" category. But since pizza plays such an important part in keeping my tummy happy - it gets its own spot. If you want New York Style pizza in Cincinnati (or in the Columbus area for that matter), Flying Pizza is the place to go. The owners are direct imports from New York and have opened a bunch of these flying pizzas (visit their site for all locations). There is another New York Style pizza place - Fratelli's out in Tylersville, but I like Flying Pizza better. The sauce is better here. I always get the regular cheese pie ($14.20 for a large) well done for a crispy crust, and top it off with some red pepper flakes and oregano. Of course, garlic is available - i just don't eat it. The slices are large enough to fold in half (most of the time), and i've heard that they'll even serve it to you on a slice on wax paper (to catch the drippings) in true new york style if you really wanted. Occasionally, i'll stray from the cheese pie, and sample some other items (see menu). The spinach and cheese calzone is quite tasty, but nothing's as good here as the pizza pie. Tidbit: the amount of dough used in a calzone is equal to 1/4 the dough used in a large pizza.

A small chain pizza place (Columbus and Dayton I know of). You will find New York style pizza. Excellent Pizza. I took off a star since they charge for refills off the pop machine. Try the scillian when you are there.

I still miss my favorite NY pizza place, but this is the best NY pizza place in the area. Chewy, cheesy and a tangy sauce. Service can be spotty depending on if you get a HS kid or the owner.

Not as good as the "real thing" in NYC but definitely the best NY style pizza in SW Ohio.

Great Pizza and they even know what a Sicilian slice is! Recommend.
