I had been hearing about A Tavola for a long time and unfortunately they are not open for lunch so it took me awhile to get there. But I am so glad I did. My husband and I went for our anniversary a few months ago and it was some of the best food we've had in the city, certainly our favorite pizza. We had the arancini and the bacon tapenade for appetizers, the fig and prosciutto pizza for our entree and the seasonal streusel for dessert. Everything was amazing. They also have a full bar with some very unique cocktails (ask the bartender for their suggestion- you won't be sorry).

Mmm A Tavola... This place is so good! On the authority of our waiter, it is pronounced ah TAH-vo-la. We trust him. This is the best pizza in Cincinnati. The crust is baked in a big wood burning kiln-like oven. It comes out smokey and crunchy on the bottom, nice and chewy throughout. And the smell is intoxicating. Fresh bread, old world style. Mmm. And it's all about the bread! They don't really sauce the pizza--that would just cover up the taste of that amazing crust. And that's why you're there, really, for the crust. The toppings on the specialty pizzas are the stuff dreams are made of. I have actually had dreams about the Fig and Prosciutto pizza (prosciutto slices over fig jam is the best salty sweet combo). The sweet pea and bacon is also über delicious and often there is a war of wills to decide between them. If you would like to ask for your own toppings, you can do that too. We have gotten one with their crumbled sausage before (really good, a little sweet, a little spicy, lots of fennel). But trust me. Just order off the menu, you won't be sorry. I've actually never had anything here but pizza. I don't foresee not ordering pizza in the future. Just get the pizza.

An A for creativity in pizza ingredients but an F in the actual pizza. Decided to try this place after walking by it day after day and drooling over the yelp reviews. Came to realize that this was worse than little caesars. All I could taste was the burnt crust not to mention it became soggy after maybe ten minutes. Salted caramel gelato was mediocre.

I've been wanting to go to A Tavola since it opened and only recently made it there. Every other time I thought about going it was a weekend night and I knew I'd be in for a long wait. That might be the only downside to A Tavola- it's so popular that it's pretty much full any evening it's open. I can't dock it for being well-loved! My friend and I finally had the forethought to plan a weeknight dinner instead and I am so glad we made it happen. So, go on a weeknight- you'll get your food fast and you won't have to wait. The pizza is basically a combination of two of my favorite pizza's ever: Dewey's and Marco's Coal Fired Pizza (Denver). I love the crust. It's perfectly chewy and crunchy to my liking. Loved the artichoke pizza and the fig and arugula is a really surprising party in your mouth. I like the interesting mixed drinks (enjoyed the ginger beer). I also sampled my friend's watermelon salad- another surprisingly delicious combination. Love it so very much!

Delish! Love this place. Went here with a group of 6 on Labor Day, and service and food were excellent, as were wines and cocktails.

Gourmet pizza with an urban twist! Located in the Gateway District of OTR, A Tavola serves up a delectable pizza pie. Hand-tossed dough which turns into a golden, buttery crust, topped with any and every combination imaginable. A Tavola is not the place to go if you're craving something quick and greasy. Instead, consider this a culinary experience. First, the restaurant gets my respect being one of the only eateries in OTR that doesn't have a massive queue at supper time. Don't get me wrong - there are plenty of folks eating here. The restaurant is just laid out very well to maximize seating and not have customers sitting on top of each other. It's hard for me to pick a favorite pizza. I've had several different kinds and they all get my mouth watering each time I visit. Soppressata: salami, banana peppers, provolone Margherita: tomato sauce, mozzarella, oregano Fig: fig jam, prosciutto, fontina, arugula Eggplant: fried eggplant, mozzarella, roma tomato, pesto Brussel Sprout: brussel sprouts, caramelized onion, fontina Squash: yellow squash, caramelized onion, fontina A Tavola pours up a variety of wines as well, with most costing around $8.00 per glass or $35.00 for a bottle. A perfect compliment for a fancy pizza. Perfect for a night on the town or a precursor to the theatre, A Tavola is one of the dining highlights of Vine Street. Price per person: $25.00 TIP: Each pizza serves two people.

So noisy you can't hear yourself think. Family style pizzas arrived in waves and so my companions never got the options they ordered with all the confusing noise. Word to the wise --- go when they first open to enjoy a barely civil din for the first half hour, or takeout as the best option for saving your hearing from premature deafness.

I cannot conceive a better pizza place. This was our second visit to the Madeira location. The two crust choices are amazing. The quality of the toppings is superb. Just truly a fantastic pizza. Many vegetarian choices. The beer choices alone are worth a visit. It's our first choice for pizza in Cincinnati.

Great wood-fired pizza joint in OTR. We bring the kids here all the time for great pizza, salads, and their world famous Salted Caramel Soft-Serve Gelato! Service is great, hip and super accommodating. (Dudes have "Mumford and Sons" beards, which you can't go wrong with.) Good meal is pretty inexpensive and the setting is great with a good thirst-quenching mix of wine, spirits and craft beers.

I have a theory about pizza. A lot like French fries, I believe that all pizza is good (albeit on a spectrum). So when I first heard of A TAVOLA and its wood-fired pies, I knew I had to try it. I met a couple of friends at this bar + trattoria, which is an open, inviting space that appeals to all minimalists such as myself. For appetizers, we opted for the daily special, Pizza Fritta, and the Slider Sampler. You can't do much wrong with deep frying anything carb- and cheese-related, so it is a given that the Pizza Fritta was fabulous. The Slider Sampler was also good, and my personal favorite of the three was the Chicken Meatball Slider (the Blue Oven english muffins were a great touch). For our entrees, we decided on two pizzas. Previously a pretty picky child, I've vowed to myself to make a point to try new things as I've grown up (literally, not figuratively). First was the Fig + Prosciutto. The sweet fig jam contrasted the cheese, prosciutto, and arugula quite perfectly, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this particular pizza. And not to totally neglect my love for semi-plain fare, we also opted for the Margherita pie, which was also outstanding. The only meh item I had this particular evening was the gelato, but I'm not much one for sweets anyhow. And to be fair, I was all but forced to try it, so my opinion here isn't all that discerning. Our server was extremely personable and knowledgeable, and engaged in plenty of culinary- and beer-related conversation (there's where I check out, seeing as I know next to nothing about either) with one of my dinnermates, so that added to our casual and pleasurable dining experience. This gourmet pizza, ladies and gentleman, is on the 'fantastic' end of the spectrum, and I will most certainly be back in the future.

A Tavola is great! Excellent bar menu. Really good pizza, really good salads and sides. The meatballs with Blue Oven bread are a favorite. The asparagus salad might be one of the favorite that I've had. The ambience is fun.

With the warmth of a Sunday afternoon family meal in Italy, A Tavola brings a bit of the "boot" to Cincinnati. The pizzas are the best in the city. I know, because I grew up in New York City. (CASE CLOSED!) The staff hugs you like Grandma, making you feel welcome and wanted. The bar is happening and you are a friend as soon as you sit down. While the menu is not Michelin star fancy, the food is delicious and will put a big smile on your face. Every city should have an A Tavola. I just wish it was next door.

  • Scott M.

A Tavola roughly translates to "In Table" or "To Table" Though some of their literature I've seen says "to the table", which would be Alla Tavola. Semantics aside, this place has some pretty great traditional Italian style pizza including the classic Margherita which you will find basically anywhere in Italy. Margherita pizza is known for having a rather tart sauce. Additionally, traditional Italian pizzas are thin, not thick. If that's not your thing, too bad, you should try this stuff anyway. Definitely one of the better pizzas in the city. Though, as echoed by some other reviewers, the bar for great pizza in this town is so low that it rests on the floor. For starters, you absolutely must have the bacon-wrapped dates, they are heavenly, though for your money ($6), you only get four. My UC math skills tell me that's a dollar and a half a date (cheapest date I've ever been on, hahahaha, I'm hilarious). Your date will want the Fig Jam and Prosciutto because it's that popular pizza that everyone is talking about. Caution though, it is covered in Arugula which kind of has a bland taste. This could be a good combination with the fig jam, but last I had this pizza I thought more fig jam was in order and less arugula. Guess I like my pizza like I like my women, sweet and covered in bacon. Funny I should mention that, you might want to give the Sweet Pea and Bacon a try. My friends all nay-sayed me when I ordered this on my last trip, but it ended up being a favorite amongst most in the group. It may not sound like a great combo, but it totally is. My favorite pizza though has to be the Artichoke. The artichoke is a big deal back in the old country, and the folks at "A Tavola" struck gold with this one. I didn't expect this to be a great pizza, as I am not typically a fan of goat cheese and try to avoid going vegetarian as often as possible (if we don't eat the animals they will steal all our oxygen). I thought this pizza would outclass me, but instead it totally hit the spot. Fair warning though, it does not reheat well so you're best off killing it while you're there. Some things you should check out while you're here: (1) The big wood-fired oven near the back has to be one of the coolest things I've seen. It is as big as the entire kitchen in my house. (2) The lacquered tree trunk tables up front. They can be a bit awkward to sit at because of their unusual shape, but they are still really cool. This place can get busy in a hurry and I definitely suggest going a little before the typical dinner rush and during the week. It is kind of awkward to hang out there when it's busy. The bar fills up fast as well leaving patrons to hang in the path of every server in the joint. Aside from the aforementioned Margherita, all pizzas are between $14-$16. I think it's a little pricey for what you get, but keep in mind that this is a nice dine-in location and that Papa John's pizzas typically end up in that same range. Mangia!

Super pizza in a great space. Inspiring to see what they have built down in the OTR neighborhood. Creative pizzas and loved the meatballs. Don't miss either of those. Totally fresh and lovely ingredients go into their food. Wine list is both nice and reasonable, which is a rarity anymore. The place is super loud, so can be hard to talk unless you are sitting right next to each other, but that's the only criticism. A great addition to the scene in Cinci.

Atavola is one of the best restaurants in the city in my opinion. Everything is so delicious and it is incredibly affordable. The chicken meatballs and the fig and prosciutto pizza are particularly great.

Hands down the best pizza in Cincinnati. No offense, Cincinnati, but the bar is incredibly low on that one. Ridiculously low. Seriously, Larosas? Donatos? Papa Johns? Anyway, I'd be willing to stack these pizzas up against any gourmet pizza in America. They're really that good. The fig jam is likely the signature pizza and its phenomenal. The prosciutto is less than it should be (this is thick, weird stuff that tastes ok but isn't really prosciutto), but the whole dish comes together so well. The butternut squash pizza was out of this world. The brussell sprout pizza was out of this world. The artichoke pizza was out of this world. The stuffed date appetizer was out of this world. The cocktails are out of this world (well, on prime nights. I've been there on slower nights, ordered the same cocktails and had them be far less enjoyable. B squad bartender?) For the price I'd love to see them up the cured meat quality significantly, but as a whole I'm very happy with this place. As is anyone I've brought (and I'm here 3 times a month, so I've brought many people.)

We've been to A Tavola twice and have loved everything we've tasted! As a vegetarian, I was partial to the sweet corn and ricotta bruschetta which is served on grilled bread. The first time I tried a vegetarian pizza with leeks and mushrooms and it was good but I found I preferred the plain margherita better. My husband really enjoyed the sauced-stuffed and bacon-wrapped dates and talked about them for days after. Both he and his friend got the margherita pizza with the house sausage and house bacon and they said it was amazing. The grilled peaches dessert was perfect and the affogato was perfectly done. It can be loud and a bit crowded here, but the crowd is diverse, the staff friendly, and the pizza amazing!

This is a trendy, cool, hip place. They make flavorful, unique pizzas that were cooked just right. The open bistro/industrial feel is really nice. Being in a trendy area, there were an overwhelming amount of beautiful people. Just don't drive too far past this place to look for parking.

We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and seated immediately. The waitress was nice and drinks were filled promptly. The food left us wanting though. We got the bacon wrapped dates, wagyu meatballs, and the fig and prosciutto pizza. The dates were good but the meatballs were nothing special and the pizza had an almost soggy crust, charred on the ends but almost undercooked on the bottom.

I'm baffled by all the rave reviews and lines out the door of this place. I read the reviews and saw many complaining about how loud the place is but nothing could have prepared me for the reality. I've eaten at thousands of restaurants around the world and have never heard one with such amplified sound. You literally cannot hear anything. The seating is extremely cramped and leaves no room for even the slightest movement. The service was mediocre and the food was a joke. I am not sure if Cincinnati is just so desperate for something different that we praise anybody who makes an effort but I just cannot figure this one out. My entire group of four was completely disappointed. If you want real brick oven pizza, I recommend Pizellis's or Strong's.

I do not understand all of the great reviews for this place. This has to be the worst experience I have had at a restaurant. They will not take reservations even for a big group . We waited an hour and a half for a table. It was soooooo loud in the restaurant that I literally had to scream at the person sitting next to me so they could hear me. The patio was available for our hour and a half wait (which would be quiet) but they had all of the chairs chained up. We had to ask them to unchain the chairs. Once the pizza came the others in our group who were served first were done with their food so they watched us eat. The pizza was under cooked and soggy. The waitress was not really all that good. One person in the group was charged $10.00 for her first glass of wine and $11.00 for the second glass. If you like dining in an extremely loud place with a lot of kids screaming then this slightly up scale Chucky Cheese pizza parlor is for you. I'm sure the parents love it because their kids can scream and yell as loud as they want and no one notices because it is so loud in there. If you want to talk to anybody you go out to eat with don't go here.

  • Jessica D.

A friend and I went here on Friday night. The wait was a bit long (about 45 minutes) and there's no place to wait. I felt more-than-usual- awkward hanging out next to people's tables while waiting and drinking. The bar was being used to serve dinner, so there wasn't room to wait at the bar. The fig and prosciutto pizza was delicious, as was the bruschetta.

Pretty great food - nice ambiance! Ate well for gluten free in an establishment that specializes in pizza! :) The only tiny issue was a slack in customer service but, we will be back to see if it gets better! The food overshadowed the service :)

OTR is the hip place to be. Vine street is the hip street. A Tavola is the hip pizza place. The pizza at A Tavola Bar and Trattoria is COWABUNGA! But not the TMNT cowabunga eat a pizza in a sewer, but more of a hand made, wood-fired Neapolitan cowabunga eat a pizza in a trendy space paired with your favorite craft beer or wine. One warning about A Tavola and every other restaurant on Vine in OTR, prepar to wait as wait list are long and reservations are not permitted.

Hands down the best Pizza in Cincinnati. My wife and I have been around 7 or 8 times. Favorite Pizza - Fig and Prosciutto Ap - Meatballs (ask for extra bread - worth the additional cost - for sopping up sauce They also have the best dessert in OTR. Housemade Gellato with Salted Carmel sauce.

Fascinated by the "Ron Swanson" review, we ordered a Margherita base with house made bacon and a farm fresh egg. My husband toyed with the idea of ordering a second pizza, but we ultimately decided on getting the Asparagus Salad so we wouldn't have to roll ourselves to the Aronoff afterwards. The salad: Sprinkled with crispy prosciutto, pine nuts, cooked asparagus and vinaigrette. Good combination of flavors and fresh bib lettuce (none of that wilt-y stuff you see at other places). Like bacon, you can't go wrong with prosciutto. Ever. The pizza: I'm always wary about thin crusts because so many pizza places like to serve it as a very dry, very brittle cracker that tears up your mouth when you try to eat it. Not the case here! The crust was crisp with a good kind of chewy - like a freshly made bread. Add some good tomato sauce and you've already got a good pizza. But add some bacon? You know where I'm going with this - phenomenal! The only thing that I wasn't a big fan of was the egg. I mistakenly assumed it would be a semi-runny fried egg but it was added post-oven and was lightly cooked (good portion was still translucent) by the heat of the pizza. I should have asked - my fault. The service: A+ Friendly and attentive. The moment a plate was emptied, someone popped by and politely asked if they could help us take it away. The server was knowledgeable and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we had a good experience. We'll be back!

We ordered the fig jam pizza. Loved the dough. Its soft and relatively thin. Toppings weren't over done, and the sauce wasn't poured on. There was a good contrast of sweet and savory with the ingredients. I'm not a huge pizza person, I fall in the lines of gourmet/ flat bread fan. Highly recommend. Food was brought put quite fast for how busy it was. My friend got a wine, not very good wine. Wrong pick apparently. After we finished our meal we went to the bar across the street.

In my opinion, it's pretty difficult to create an inedible pizza. Even just the basics of bread, sauce, and cheese, fresh from the oven, make for a delicious meal. So you can imagine, if you've been to A Tavola, what a pleasant surprise I was in for upon my first visit. To begin, the atmosphere is rather enjoyable. The staff is incredibly friendly and the space was alive with a busy bar, pizza bar, and plenty of full tables that made for great energy in the space. Our server, Stephen, was excellent. He was very enthusiastic about showing me what A Tavola is all about. He recommended their house made ginger beer, which was incredible, and he told us that their entire menu includes items made in house. O right, I should probably include a review of their wonderful pizza, cooked in 90 seconds in their 1,000 degree oven. My friend and I shared the artichoke pizza, which included my favorite cheese, goat cheese. The sauce was accompanied with pesto, and I appreciated that they left the pizza at that. We also shared the asparagus salad-the vegetarian version. It was a great starter, and allowed room for their excellent caramel gelato at the end of the meal. The gelato was a generous portion, and came with torched marshmallows. I would most likely go to the restaurant again if the service was bad, because the food was so wonderful, or visa versa. But, there was no aspect of the experience that was negative! I will certainly be taking my family and friends her when they visit.

I have been there a few times and have had probably every item on the menu. It is fantastic and priced very well. Service is always amazing. The only downfall is the acoustics are AWFUL and makes it hard to hear someone sitting next to you.

The Next Generation in Pizza Places No, I'm not channeling my inner Star Trek nerd. In fact, I'm not a Trekkie at all. What I am referring to is the future of pizza joints. And the future looks bright (no, I'm not finishing that sentence with "i've got to wear shades". Sheesh.) The thing I like the most is that is has something for everyone. This is something I have found that is rare in a pizzerias. Organic kind of person? Their ingredients are picked fresh everyday with a mind for local and organic. Vegetarian? Have a go at the Margherita, Brussel Sprout or Artichoke pizza. The redhead, who is a vegetarian, preferred the Artichoke the last time we stopped in. She wasn't disappointed. But you're a meat lover, you say? Or in my case, a hard core meat lover (get your mind out of the gutter people!). They have plenty of options to choose from, with all the classic like sausage, prosciutto, and pepperoni. I ate an entire Sausage + Sage pizza when I was there last time. No lie, the entire freaking thing. What if you don't like the combinations that the A Tavola folks already have on the menu? No worries, they allow a make your own combination starting at only $9 for the base. Stop talking about food and let me know about the drinks, you say? Alright. If you're a craft beer fan like myself, they have you covered with Bells, Troeg's, and Founders' crafts. If you're not into that you can grab the Budweiser, Miller Lite and even Yuengling's of the world as well. All beers are reasonably priced from $3-6. If you're a wine lover (which I'm not, so won't pretend to review the quality here), they have a large selection and you can purchase by the glass or the bottle. You might be asking yourself why, if I have effused about the place so glowingly, did I not grant the full five-star rating? Simple. Space. A Tavola is in the ever refurbishing Over the Rhine, which means they aren't going to have a lot of space. And that's the downside. I enjoy a meal without having to rub elbows with a complete stranger. On busy nights, which is almost every night, that is virtually impossible. So in hindsight, I suppose they don't have something for everyone. If you are claustrophobic, they won't have the space you need.

We just discovered this A Tavola and LOVE it! The appetizers are cool and different and super yummy! I usually get beer with pizza, but got some fizzy girly drink that was crazy good. We were sat at the bar since it was a busy weekend night, and to me, with just me and the hubs, the bar was the best place! We got to watch them make the food, and cook the pizzas in the giant stone oven. Our waitress was very friendly, knew the menu well, and the host was also friendly, and chatty, and very knowledgable about the menu. We ordered the fig jam and prosciutto pizza, holy cow, SO fabulous! The guy at the oven, whose name i don't remember, was very friendly. We struck up a convo over his green bay hat and found he was from Wi. and we shared a little Green Bay crazy talk, but he also know the menu, and the place, and told us all about it, and how they got the oven in, and how the oven works, it was just really fun to talk to him. Overall, if you like trying new stuff, and a fun atmosphere, and crazy good food, you have to try this place!

A Tavola is one of the first places I visited in Cincinnati, when I came over for the very first time in September. What I remembered was: very strong cocktails, amazing dates starters and a suprisingly yummy Brussels sprouts pizza. So when friends of our suggested that we go there for dinner I was all up for it! I wanted to show my husband this amazing place!! So I definitely went in with a 5 stars rating in mind. However... there is one thing that just isn't that cool and that is the waiting time. Our friends tried to book a table but that isn't possible. So we showed up at 7h30 on a Friday night and were told that the wait would be more or less 1,5 hours. No worries, we would just go for a drink in Lackman's and then go back. We did exactly that, but the 1,5 turned into a 2 hours wait and by that time we were starving. The most frustrating thing was that we could just see 2 tables of 4 chatting away, without eating or drinking anything. My strong recommendation would be: 1) Allow reservations 2) Work in slots (e.g. when you get a 7h30 reservation, you know you need to finish at 9 - of course you can continue talking at the bar) Even when I can understand that it adds to the buzz about this place to have people waiting, I'm pretty sure I'll go somewhere else for dinner on a Friday night. The food though was just as a remembered, the dates are my absolute favorite starter ever, the combination with the bacon is perfect! The Brussels sprout pizza was also exactly as I remembered! So in general the food is amazing, but the extremely long wait makes it a little less attractive destination for me on a Friday or Saturday night.

Neat little pizza place. I like the different stuff on their menu and that they have gelato. We went around 8:00 on a thursday and had to wait a few minutes, the place was busy. Horrible side effect of this: cramped and Very Loud. We had to almost yell to each other and the server. Had a bacon and bruschetta app, which was good. The pizza was very good (don't try to make changes, they know their pizza).

So, I have written two other reviews of pizza places around the city. I believ I have claimed they were both the best in town and intend to do so once again with A Tavola. Damn is this good pizza, like really really good pizza. I have been twice in a week. My first visit my group ordered two pies. The margarita, the best way to tell how good it really is, and a custom pizza I call the "Ron Swanson" with house bacon and a farm fresh egg. First the margarita, it was awesome. the crust was crispy and slightly chewy and a little soggy (in good way) in the middle. The sauce was super fresh tasting with a minimal amount of herbs and spices. The quality of the tomatoes really shined through. With a perfectly melty and salty motz, and a lightly dusting of a very tangy parm, this pizza wasn't messing around. What I am really excited to write about is the "Ron Swanson" we created. The house bacon plus an egg cracked right in the middle is my new, all time favorite pizza. Seriously, it changed my life. The air seems fresher, the sky seems brighter now that this pie is in my life. The house bacon renders perfectly in the oven to become almost butter like when eaten. Bust the yoke and dip the slices to visit a level of dining nirvana that I am surprised isn't illegal. Please, do yourself a favor and order this pizza, the "Ron Swanson" My second experience with A Tavola was equally great. My wife and I had enjoyed the experience so much we decided to call in a carry-out order on our way home from work. The ten minute drive from work was enough time for them to make our margarita, box it up and hand it to my wife in exchange for only, get ready best part, 10 DOLLARS!!!!. What a steal! Seriously. The garbage they serve at dominos costs more than that and they wont deliver to my apartment in OTR. A Tavola is officially my favorite pizza in Cincinnati. With the quality of the pies, the proximity to my house and the price, A Tavola creates the perfect pizza experience. P.S. Get the "Ron Swanson", bacon and an egg. If we all work together we can get it put on the menu!

It should be noted that this place is not really Americanized pizza like LaRosa's or Papa John's. It is gourmet, oven-fired pizza. You have to accept that in the upswing of quality you will pay more for a better experience and pizza here. If you are used to fast food pizza or your favorite is "cheese and pepperoni," you're going to be disappointed. I eat gluten free. Therefore, I come here for the wine, short wait and rotating appetizers. This is a good place for larger parties too because they set aside a fair bit of space for those types of accommodations. I wish there was a gluten free pizza option. Until then, I probably won't be having the full experience. Otherwise, A Tavola is an excellent place to explore, especially if you have never tried dining in OTR. Parking is very close at the 12th/Vine lot and the Kroger lot that is just across the street on 12th. You can also park at Washington Park and just walk 3 mins across. Basically, this place is easily to find and access.

We came here for a work party on a Saturday night; they don't take reservations, but we were able to get a table for 14 in 30-40 minutes. The staff was really good about managing our table, coming back frequently for people who hadn't made their minds up about drink/app choices and splitting the bill for each party (a huge act of kindness for a party that big). Big hits in our party included the arancini (miniature versions of the real thing, deep fried rice balls stuffed with meat/vegetable filing), the fig and prosciutto pizza, the artichoke and feta pizza, the asparagus salad and the meatball trio. Appetizers are excellent but definitely on the small side considering their pricing. There's an excellent selection of wine and cocktails, but I'm especially partial to the old fashioned. It's a super fun environment with an open kitchen and a great view of the brick oven for the pizzas. Always busy and a tad on the loud side, I'm definitely taking out of town guests back here to show them that Cincinnati knows food.

Arguably my favorite pizza in Cincinnati! It's cooked in a stone oven and comes out to your table piping hot with the perfect mixture of crispiness and chewiness. Wine selection is a bit short but reasonably priced and with some solid selections. I'm not very familiar with Italian varietals so I usually leave it up to the waitstaff/bartenders, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Asparagus salad was a nice way to start the meal and large enough to share between two people. I felt healthy while eating it - ie. wasn't slathered with creamy dressing. One of the best spots in OTR. I'd like to give this 4.5 stars but don't feel right labeling it a 5 star joint. Yelp needs to add the half star option!

Apparently this place has a Jeckyll and Hyde polarizing effect with people. Some seem to really love this place and I went in wanting to be in that group. However, after one failed attempt to get a table and then finally returning a week later for a successful table procurement, I find myself asking, "What's the big deal?" Our sever Alice, was very nice and great with descriptions and advice. We had a glass of the Schlinkhaus Reisling, two house salads, and the artichoke pizza. The bill was just under $30 before tip. The salad was fine, good size and flavor. The pizza though, was just so-so. The artichokes were nothing special. The cheese was decent but didn't really elevate the pizza to "yummy" status. I've had better pizza at Papa John's. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong pizza but I really don't need to return. Besides that, as others have mentioned, if you plan on eating here on a weekend, plan to wait for a very very long time. The first time I tried to eat here, I eventually threw in the towel after over an hour wait, and went to Senate. If you do plan on coming here, plan on waiting, keep your group small or split them, and have a backup restaurant.

My wife and I have been here twice now and both times were great! It seems to be the only place we can get into in OTR lately (after being met with a 2 1/2 hour estimated wait at Bakersfield). The pizzas are imaginative and delicious. We split the sweet pea and bacon and sausage and sage signature pizzas with another couple and loved both. As an appetizer, I highly recommend the wagyu beef meatballs. Service is always great and it's always packed. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic spot - this isn't it. The atmosphere is loud and full of energy, which I find fun. They pack 'em in like sardines, but once you get a seat and the food and beer starts coming, you'll no longer care how close your neighbors are. Good stuff :

Best pizza in Cincinnati. We came here on a Saturday afternoon and just happened to hit happy hour. Sweet! No wait for a table (cruised right in before the dinner crowd) and cheap drinks! Plus we even found decent street parking since it was early enough in the day. The drinks are awesome and the pizza is super great too. We were lucky enough to sit at the pizza bar and watch them make the pizza and stick it in the 1000 degree oven. Seriously, the pizza cooks in under 2 minutes! Amazing to watch. We tried the seasonal pizza which had white beans, sweet corn and a few other fall type things on it. Delicious. Crust was ever so soft in the middle, instead of thin and crispy like other wood fire pizzas I have tried but the taste truly made up for it. The homemade gelato comes out looking like soft-serve but we tried the toasted marshmallows with it and omg so good. Not the cheapest place around, but not terrible either. 2 apps, 3 drinks, 1 pizza and desert, $65 for the two of us.

The prosciutto and fig pizza was really good. The wagyu sliders were nothing special, but I really liked the aperol spritzer. It is super loud in there- so not a great place to catch up.

Over-the-Rhine is in a wonderful state of flux, business-wise. There are new places popping up everyday, but there's none I've been more excited for than A Tavola. Long before my time in Cincinnati, these guys used to do secret pizza night at Take the Cake in Northside. They would come in and cook these gourmet pizzas that would go almost immediately. I heard legends of these nights but never got to try one of their creations myself ... until last night. A Tavola (which I've been told is pronounce ah tav-ah-lah) is the new gourmet pizza shop on Vine and it is beautiful. You walk in and are stopped by the sheek prettiness of it all - beautiful paintings on the wall, black wood on the floors, funky tables, a great bar. As my date said, "this place would be very easy to photograph." However, this modern-style did create a little bit of awkwardness during our meal. We sat at a wooden table near the front - and when I say wood, I mean it was literally a jagged section of a tree turned into a table. It was really funky and I loved it ... until we tried to fit two pizzas on it and had to rearrange everything to awkwardly make it work. Our waiter looked at it as he brought out our second pizza and went, "Ummmmmmmmmm..." Ha. Not the most space on that thing, but oh well. Still very cool. There are plenty of non-tree tables too, either at the bar or other tables in the back, so you should be fine wherever you sit. When we went at 5:30 (we were trying to make a 7:30 event), it was almost empty and our food came very quickly. We were told they just bring things out when they're ready and don't wait for everything to be done before serving it all together. I'd recommend getting a few pizzas and sharing them with everyone at the table, otherwise you will look sadly across the table as your friend eats and makes happy noises while you wait for yours. And ... my god. The pizzas! The pizzas! They were delicious from every bite on. I got the margarita with homemade bacon (yes, in-house cured giant chunks of bacon) and it was amazing. I didn't think it could be topped until my date got the fig and prosciutto pizza which was equally as good, if not better! We finished out night with a pistachio whoopee pie (basically like an upscale chip wheelie), which was tasty but not as mind blowing as the pizza. Everything is reasonably priced (pizzas are about $10 to $14 depending on what you get and are about a "medium" size.) They've got a great selection of craft beer and wine and I was very happy with my glass. They're still working out some kinks (like when our second pizza came, it hadn't actually been cut into slices yet. Ha! They took it right back and sliced it good) and because it's a new OtR stop, expect it to be packed for weeks. Still, it will be packed for good reason - it really is delicious enough to wait for.

Tried the Arancini tonight, along with the chicken meatballs which were all tasty. For Pizza, we had the Fig & Prosciutto and a Pepperoni for the kids. This place is just solid. Good service and good food.

OTR...the new gastro Mecca of Cincinnati. A Tavola has a number of elements that make it super special. The first being the pizza. It's just good. Thin, high quality crust seared to perfection (blows a local place that starts with D out of the water) in an oven they imported from Italy (I hear they needed to use a special crane to get it in). Just like all other OTR places, it is super busy just about all of the time. I have to believe that at some point, these places are going to have to start taking limited reservations but my guess is that they had to sign an agreement in blood with the king of OTR that they wouldn't take reservations. Speaking of the king of OTR...any votes? So, back to the place. Pizza is superb and the beer selection is solid. Tons of similarities with a few places I have frequented in Portland, OR (that's who we are trying to be right??). Few suggestions...the chairs have to go. Just not comfortable at all. Two...nope, that's it. Well done all around except the chairs. Oh...and thanks for not getting snobby because OTR is a hoping place now. Treat your guests like family and they will give back 100-fold.

Let's start off by saying pizza is one of my favorite foods, and A Tavola does it just right! The atmosphere of the place is open/spacious but crowded with people - a sure sign that the food is fabulous. The variety of pizzas you can have on their menu is pretty awesome. You really can't go wrong with the fig or white anchovy. If you're feeling something more traditional, just make your own, and definitely don't forget to get the chicken meatballs too! Super tasty. Another plus about this place is their awesome wood fire grill. It takes no time at all to get your food and it's warm and toasty when it gets to your table. Definitely a place worth checking out multiple times!!!

Eaten in twice, had takeout twice. Every time the pizza has been tasty, tasty, tasty. Tonight I had the dates and the bacon tapenade. The bacon tapenade was $5, well-portioned, and amazing (I mean it's a piece of bread covered with bacon, cheese, and balsamic glaze; how can you go wrong). The dates were ok, not the best. I also ordered the ginger beer. It tasted like a limeade with a little ginger; it wasn't what I was expecting but it was still good! Service was great! We'll be back :)

My new best pizza in Cincy; in fact, some of the best food in Cincy. The menu is inspired with fresh, interesting ingredient combinations. It's not the cheapest joint in town, but the quality of food is well worth it. Also, that oven burns pretty hot (900F+) and the pizza comes out quickly as a result. Be sure to get here early on a weekend night or you'll be waiting for a table. Bottom Line: I'll definitely be back for the best pizza in Cincy.

Great innovative trattoria in OTR Pros: 1. The food is delicious, really creative pizza options and if you are feeling particularly creative you can make your own 2. Reasonably priced for the quality of your meal 3. The service staff is very friendly and knowledgeable Cons: 1. The wait time can definitely be long, we waited over an hour and a half for a party of four, however it was a friday night and the place was packed 2. The cocktails were not as good as I had hoped/expected when compared to the other OTR restaurant/bars Overall a great place and definitely worth the wait, just leave your cell phone number with the hostess and explore OTR!

If you're looking for an authentic Italian pizza experience, A Tavola is the place to go. Coming from an Italian family (my Mom was born and raised in Rome), I was brought up with an Italian "palette." When my Mom came to visit me in Cincinnati last week, we decided to try A Tavola. I have to say even she was impressed. Everything from the types of pizza (we had the white anchovy with arugula) to the salad (simple, light and tasty just like in Italy) and the wine list is authentic and prepared perfectly. The service was great too. Can't wait to go back!

I loved A Tavola. It's my new favorite restaurant in OTR! The day we went (opening day) was very hot outside, and I was concerned that it would be simply roasting inside, what with the massive pizza oven and crowded dining room. Happily, it wasn't! The space is large, especially by OTR standards and though full, I didn't feel crammed or uncomfortable. I mention this first because in the summer, it's something to think about in every restaurant. The food was just lovely. We had a sausage pizza (they were out of the bacon, I can't wait to try that). I don't love sausage, and I wasn't very hungry, but I still ate half a pizza! I also tried the asparagus salad, which is something I'd never order--and loved it. I've been dreaming about this place ever since, and am dying to go back! If you are alone or with just one more person, I suggest sitting at the bar so you can watch stuff being made. I'm doing that next! They try to use fresh, local ingredients wherever possible, and somehow after eating here I felt fairly healthy (even for pizza) and also satisfied. Yay A Tavola!!

I finally got the chance to visit a restaurant that has been at the top of my list since it's opening earlier this year, A Tavola. I brought my wife to this trendy Over-the-Rhine eatery for her birthday a couple of weekends ago. We had heard that the line for a table was often long, and they do not take reservations, so we found ourselves lucky to talk in around 6:30 and find just a twenty-minute wait. We could have been seated immediately at the pizza counter, but decided to wait for a more spacious table. While waiting for our table, we found a couple of seats at the nearly packed bar and enjoyed a drink. I was impressed by the selection of draft beer and my wife found new love in a glass of red wine. She loved it so much that she took down the name so she could try to find a whole bottle later. Before we could get too far into our drinks, our table was ready. After being seated pretty much in the center of the dining area, we glanced through the menu filled with a wide variety of pizzas along with a selection of salads and appetizers. Our server gave us a nice introduction to the restaurant after finding out it was our first time. He also suggested ordering a couple of appetizers and then splitting a pizza. He said that the pizzas are too large to be considered a personal dish. Following our servers advice we decided to split the house salad and one of the items on the seasonal menu, the chicken meatballs. The house salad was a basic mix of greens, shaved parmigiano, and a delicious balsamic vinaigrette. The salad greens were very fresh and tasty, in fact some of the best I have ever had. As good as the salad was, the chicken meatballs stole the show for me. The mix of tomato sauce and salsa verde was delicious and the meatball itself was perfectly seasoned. I wish that this would become a permanent item on the menu. As for our pizza we went with the artichoke, goat cheese, salsa verde, tomato sauce, and mozzarella. With such good results with our appetizers I was expecting to be blown away. Unfortunately I was a little let down. The combination of ingredients tasted great, but I had a problem with the crust. I felt that it was too flimsy in the middle. When I picked up a slice with my hands nearly the entire slice would flop down toward the ground. I would have liked for it to be a bit crisper on the outside but still chewy on the inside. Other reviews seem to indicate a better cooked pizza so I hope for better results on a future visit. Even with this mistake, A Tavola is definitely worth a visit and I hope to be back soon.

I had high expectations because I want to open my own wood fired oven restaurants but I was pleasantly surprised by the service it was excellent. The ambiance was delicate with a light roar of people enjoying themselves. The pizza was good but not something that I have to have again this week. The wagoo beef slider was saucy, filled with herbs and finished with a splash of pesto aioli. Plan on spending 30-50$ for two.

A Tavola is one of the bright spots of the Cincinnati pizza scene. It boasts a unique line-up of Neopolitan pizzas that is highlighted by the delicious Fig + Prociutto. Seriously, if you don't order it, you're making a big mistake. I also recommend giving the dates a try as an appetizer. They have Bell's on tap, which is always a bonus in my book. Plus, they offer the option of ordering a pitcher, which is rare from restaurants of this caliber. I was not impressed with their Soft Serve Gelato. I know some people like it, but to me it was not on par with the quality of the rest of their food. As you can tell by the reviews, this place is very popular, and it get quite crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. Personally, I would just plan on grabbing some drinks at any one of the great bars in OTR after you give the hostess your name. She will also take your cell phone number, and call you when your table is ready, which I think is nice. Overall, the combination of ambiance, beer, and of course pizza, make A Tavola an excellent choice.

Tasty Neapolitan style pizzas with quality toppings from a massive wood fired, black tiled oven in the back. You can grab a front row seat at the "pizza bar' and watch the cooks assemble your pie before shoveling it into the oven to cook. The meatballs and bacon covered dates were solid, but nothing special, split a couple of pizzas instead. The staff was every friendly, attentive, and ready to volunteer their favorites on the menu.

Came here on a recent visit to the 'Nati from Chicago. With Chicago being the land of pizza you think I'd need not look for a pie in Cincinnati but I heard good things about A Tavola and wanted to see how the Queen City could compare to the Second City. A Tavola isn't all about the pizza though, a thoughtful selection of Italian wines and local craft beers pairs excellently with the food. I also tried the eggplant slider appetizer which comes adopt a Blue Oven Bakery English muffin and is absolutely amazing. The slider is apparently so popular it inspired a pizza (the eggplant pizza, if you can't figure that one out yourself). The space is small and vibrant and the service is warm and friendly. And what about the pizza? I ordered the margherita, the lightest of the offerings, which allowed me to partake in appetizers and dessert. The crust is a soft, chewy Neapolitan crust with the perfect amount of char. The sauce was sweet, which I'm a huge fan of, and delicious. For dessert we had the salted caramel gelato with caramel sauce and toasted marshmallows. It was an awesome combination of sweet meets salty with campfire nostalgia coming from the toasted marshmallows. Great place from start to finish.

Beef meatballs, fig & prosciutto pizza, salted caramel gelato with toasted marshmallows... all incredible! Absolutely one of my favorite spots in Cinci, and out-of-town friends enjoyed it so much they ate there twice in one long-weekend visit.

I love it so much that I'm always looking for an occasion to go. The bacon wrapped dates are to die for, and the pizza is one of the best slices you can get in Cincy. A+ food and drinks without the unnecessary pretention!

So. Delicious! The staff is very well-informed and will take the time to explain the beers/wines and the food so you know what you're getting yourself into. My husband laughed at me because he said it looked like I was figuring out the national budget with our waiter the way I was negotiating what I wanted on my pizza. Which brings us to -- the pizza! So amazingly delicious. They make their own sausage and bacon, and their own tomato sauce. The pizza cooks in 90 seconds in a specialty pizza oven from Naples. The crust is thin, the sauce is not overpowering, the fontina cheese is amazing, and the whole pizza experience is out of this world. I am a big fan of pizza, and this is among the best I've ever had. The waiter recommended the arancini as an appetizer, and I'm so glad he did. Fried risotto with fontina cheese and homemade tomato sauce?!! Do I even need to say anything more, other than it is every bit as good as it sounds. 4 beers, an appetizer, and a pizza for under $50. For gourmet food and good tap beer, I would call this a win. If I'm ever back in the area, I will absolutely be back.

Terrific pizza and vibe here. Our waiter was excellent. Had the brussels sprout pizza & added prosciutto - yum! Busy place around 6pm. The only weird thing was that the bathroom was out of soap and had freezing cold water!

We kind of ate at the restaurant last night. I say kind of because when we arrived we sat for 15 minutes for someone to come to the table and no one did. My son-in-law had to go up to a server and tell them we hadn't been waited on. She said she was not our server, our server had not arrived to work yet, but she would get our drink order and appetizer. Those came out fairly quickly (10 minutes). After that, nothing, no server, no nothing. Empty beer and dirty plates. For the second time after waiting another 30 minutes after the initial 15 minute wait my son-in-law had to go up to the same server and ask that our order be taken. Finally the server who was supposed to serve us from the beginning showed but did not come to the table for another 10 minutes. When he did, he took our order and we sat there another 30 minutes. We had had enough and went up to the server and asked to have our pizzas to go as we had a 6 month old and he was not happy sitting there for such a long time and needed to go home. Well, we finally got our pizzas and by the time we got home they were cold and we discovered, so burnt on the bottom so that all you tasted was burnt. We will NEVER go this the restaurant again.

I had been wanting to try this, but never got around to doing so before I left Cincinnati. So, while I was home, me and two girlfriends went here. We came on a Final Friday - which meant the restaurant was jam packed. We parked a bit away and gave our name. The wait was quote to us at 1.5 - 2 hours, which since I wanted it so bad, we agreed to. The waitress took our cell phone number so she could call us, and we went off to have drinks. About an hour later we get a call that our table is ready and run over (literally). We were seated at what was probably normally a two person table, and I was seated off at the end. It was a pretty large table though, and I was not uncomfortable, but I felt bad as the waitstaff kept having to squeeze past me, and my purse violently swung at them as they always ended up hitting it where it was. Anyhow, got a bottle of Riesling, the eggplant sliders, and the pizza with artichoke, goat cheese, tomato sauce, carmelized onions, and mozzarella. The eggplant sliders were so delicious - they were flavorful and well cooked - the breading was perfect. The english muffins that they were sandwiched in between were super fresh and tasty. The salsa verde was delicious on it as well. The pizza really drove the meal home - super delicious crust that soft and airy, amazing cheese, and well cooked artichokes. I only wish there were more artichokes and onions on the pizza - we had two slices with no artichoke and a few with maybe one onion on it. We finished with the salted caramel "gelato". It is definitely soft serve texture - not gelato - but the taste was amazing so I don't really care. I really did enjoy it. Overall a great night, even if I did spill my entire glass of water all over myself while trying to manage the small table with food everywhere.

The upside: Delicious meatballs! Salted caramel ice cream + shot of bourbon = perfect dessert combo The downside: Overpriced for italian fare (quite overpriced IMO) Our pizza's dough was very undercooked & chewy Crowded seating - maybe we had a bad spot, but I was continually bumped into Too many good options now in OTR to spend this kind of $$ for what you get. If it were more reasonable, I'd be a fan. But it's not, so be it.

One thing that makes this place is that it's a one-of-a-kind. Obviously, it's not a chain, but it' unique menu is something you can't find in many places in the city, and its continuously evolving from what I hear; Its fancy look & yet casual feel makes it a desirable venue during a night on the town; and the servers, bar tenders and mangers are a group of people that give a fair representation of the Over the Rhine community who are passionate about the restaurant and the area. I love pizza, and I have to say this place definitely knows how to make it. This pizzeria is unique compared to your run-of-the-mill pizza delivery chain. A Tavola offers a nice selection of pizza toppings and typical combinations that you can't find other places. Two items that stand out are the Soppressata Pizza & the Sausage-stuffed, Bacon-wrapped Dates. The service was fine. One time I went, the server was an old roommate of mine, so commenting on that would be unfair. The second time, the server (female) was good. It wasn't great, but she was not bad by any means + we had a table of like 8-10 (can't remember the exact amount) so, that always adds some added pressure. It's a little bit pricier than the average pizza place, so I don't go there on a regular basis, but I will be back again sometime, and I suggest it for everyone to try!

This was the first place I visited when I moved to Cincinnati (before I moved actually) cause it was recommended by the bartender at Japps. Since then I've eaten here about a total of three or four times, and each time I left completely satisfied. The service here was great (which sadly can't be said of most Cincinnati locations I've been to) but at the same time I've always sat at the bar/counter in front of the kitchen, which I highly recommended, and was always dining alone. This place is great for pizza. They seriously know what they're doing. I timed their cook time on my margherita once and it clocked in at just a tad bit north of 1 minute. That's GOOD. Plus if you sit at the counter you see one of the people meticulously check each and every pizza underneath for crusting which is a very nice touch and attention to detail. The only bad thing about the margherita is the tiny basil leaves that they use instead of bigger ones, but it's whatever. I've never had any other pizza here to talk about. The bad thing though: I always see people ordering sliders so the last time I went I decided to try one too. I got the wagyu slider which was pretty bad. I've had wagyu steaks and wagyu burgers before so I know what it should taste like. Their wagyu sliders just tasted like ground beef and whatever sauce they top the burger with just completely overpowers it. Bottom line: come for the pizza, stay for the drinks, try the sliders out of curiosity but really just enjoy the pizza.

I'm not really a pizza person. I suppose that's why it took me so long to dine here. My mistake! I nearly got the sliders because they are served on BLUE OVEN ENGLISH FREAKIN MUFFINS, but I opted to create a pizza for the husband and I to feast upon. And feasting we did indeed. I created a pesto sauce, house bacon, caramelized onions, brussel sprouts, feta and mozzarella and after the bake...lemon arugula. I done good!! It was wonderful! So light and full of flavor and the pie was CHEAP! Our bill totaled 40 odd dollars with two cocktails and a caprese salad. Most definitely will be going back for the sliders.

I have nothing but love for A Tavola. We have been there a dozen or so times, it's always packed, there's a bit of a wait, and yet we have never second guess our decision to chill at the bar or take a walk around the block before dining here. The hype seems to be spreading, and I'm thrilled to find a great pizza place and dining experience in Cincinnati. We usually get a salad to start and bruschetta or another appetizer to sample, finishing things off with the plain cheese pizza adding an egg, or opt for the various daily specials. I learned about egg (over easy essentially, added at the last minute), eating pizza in Naples; I thought it sounded awful at first, but the tuna, egg, and veg pizza I had there ranks among my top ten favorite things I've ever eaten. The combination and experience of eating pizza in Naples can probably only be matched by going back to Naples, but A Tavola, honestly, is a great approximation of the Italian pizza experience I had. If you're at all suspicious or reluctant to add egg to your creations, I offer up my very puzzled boyfriend, the egg-on-pizza-loving-convert, as proof that it's worth the try. I'm pretty sure every meal is met with a bit of contention over who get the eggier piece and who is going to use their crust to sop up the yolk on the plate. I wish I were kidding. The drinks are downtown spendy ($8-10) a pop, not usually something I indulge in (I'd much rather spend money of food than drink), but the ginger beer mixed drinks and Italian sodas I've had, have always been worthy of the splurge. Our bill is always surprisingly affordable for the quality of food, atmosphere, and overall experience. We get out for around $30, with two starters, pizza, and even a dessert. As can be assumed, the drinks make it a bit more expensive, but I couldn't be more thrilled to have such a quality establishment in Cincinnati. It's great for a date, great with friends, and some place that I'm always excited to go back to.

Waited it out for a table with friends at A Tavola last night. Nice service at the bar while waiting and wait was about what was promised. A friend and I split the Wagyu meatballs for an appetizer: 3 large meatballs in tomato sauce with pesto and optional goat cheese and 3 small, grilled slices of bread. Really tender beef and lots of flavor in the accompaniments as well. I got the pizza special with butternut squash, panna (a thick cream), walnuts, and red onions ($16). It was kind of like butternut squash soup on a pizza--while I liked the creamy texture, there wasn't enough contrast to excite my taste buds. While red pepper flakes didn't really go with the other flavors, I added some just to bump up the flavor. The crust was very light, thin, and fluffy. I think one of previous reviewers compared it to naan, which isn't a bad description. While I wasn't completely bowled over by my pizza toppings, and the wait is no joke, I still liked this place and think it's an overall winner. With the dining choices in OTR expanding by the minute, hopefully the wait will even out a bit over time, but the warm service and reasonable prices will stay.

This place is excellent as both a restaurant and a bar. With regards to the restaurant, there is much to offer vegetarians and nonvegetarians alike with a diverse and constantly changing menu. The pizza is light, flavorful, and original. This place has great and unique pizza options as well as the traditional ones. Appetizers are also very good and available for both vegetarians and nonvegetarians. My personal favorite is the arancini while I've heard the sliders are also excellent. With regards to the bar, this restaurant has a pretty big bar alongside a great drink menu with some very unique drinks. They also have a beers on tap, which tend to change seasonally. This restaurant is definitely a go to place for me when I need a quick pizza six. I've heard great things about take-out as well.

I've dined here so many times, I know the majority of the staff by-name--service has never been anything-less-than excellent, and were I a hipster Ninja Turtle with a more refined palate, A Tavola would be my pizza place of-choice, bar-none. The wait can seem formidable but I've found that it's often way less than they project. Whether you're just looking for damn-good pizza or a truly awesome dining experience all-around, you've got it at A Tavola, unequivocally my favorite OTR restaurant among a crowded field of greats.

Delicious Neapolitan style pizza done right! Thin crust, soft and chewy in the middle and crispy crusts - we tried the fig and prosciutto, which was a pretty good combination of sweet and savory flavors - next time I might try a little something more traditional though - I was missed the tang of tomato sauce. We also had the bacon wrapped dates, four dates looked tiny but packed a ton of flavor. To balance the meal we had the roasted cauliflower which was a nice balance with its light lemon flavor. We finished the meal with the salted caramel gelato with toasted marshmallows - OMG, my new favorite topping on ice cream - or anything - mini toasted marshmallows, I think I'm going to go out and buy a torch for some now!

My favorite pizza place in Cincinnati. The owners learned to make pizza in Naples, Italy and even went far enough to order their oven from there. If you try only two things here make sure to order the fig and prosciutto pizza and the bacon wrapped dates as a appetizer. If you're vegetarian - get the eggplant slider as a appetizer and any of their vegetarian pizzas as a entree (all of them are great choices - vegetarian or not).

Man, I really don't get out much anymore. So when I do, the pressure is on for my choice to be great. A Tavola was a winning pick. I think other Yelpers have already written enough about the pizza (although I didn't see much about the crust being more naan-like than anything else. It even has an almost buttery scent to it). So I'll write about my favorite drink... The Bambino! That is a tasty, tasty beverage. Bulleit Bourbon, campari, riesling and club soda make a refreshing and surprisingly light and dry cocktail. I also highly recommend the meatballs and cauliflower salad. And I also recommend arriving early or being prepared to wait.

Prob our 5th time here over the past 1-2 years. Usually pretty good but this time was different. We got the meatball trio and fig pizza which is usually exceptional but not today... It was not cooked all the way thru and had way too much arugula on top. What made the experience worse was the service. In the past I've always recognized a few employees from my previous experiences. Our server must have been new bc they were unsure about a few things on the menu. The person who dropped our meatballs off didn't tell us which meatball was which. We figured it out ( at least we think we did) but it would have been nice. The 2 stars are bc this place used to be great.... It used to feel authentic. It seems as though this place found success then stopped trying. It might be time I stpp trying to go there.

AMAZING! Everything I have tried on the menu has been fantastic. This is authentic wood fired pizza at it's finest. They have some great drinks as well. They have great service and the staff is awesome. They are always knowledgable about the foods and happy to offer suggestions. It has a boutique like restaurant feel and is a great place to meet up with friends. It's always a fun experience!

We tried to go to the Eagle last night and it was a 3 hour wait. We decided to walk down the street to A Tavola and that was probably the best decision we made all night! From the minute we walked in the door, the hostesses were very friendly and accommodating for my group of 5. I love the ambience of the place including the fancy bound menus. They had Bell's Hopslam beer on tap, so that makes me extra happy. Our waiter was wonderful and suggested that we order 5 pizzas for 5 people. That was a little too much, but we all went home with leftovers. Again, wonderful experience and I will definitely be back in the future.

My boyfriend and I went here just intending to get drinks before going to Bakersfield for tacos, we sat at the bar and the bartenders were both very nice and helpful with explaining cocktails and menu items. I had something called a copper rum (not sure if that is correct) but it was by far the best tasting mixed drink I've ever had. My bf opted for an old fashioned and a Manhattan. The smoke that was added and all the "extra" preparation that the bartender did for these drinks really made them stand out. We shared a slider and ricotta ball both were delicious. Can't wait to come back to try more yummy drinks and a pizza!

Here's how I would rank the pizza places in town: Never mind, it doesn't matter - A Tavola is head-and-shoulders above all. Sure, there are flaws in the experience, but there are no flaws in the food. Let's break down both, do the math, and then give you directions: The Bad 1) There's always a long wait. But when a place is delicious, other people are going to notice too. 2) The Arugula salad is an artistic entry into the minimalist movement, and I don't want any food that I'm paying top-dollar for to be prettier than it is tasty. Also, I only ordered this because my two friends did and I didn't want to get jewed out of food when we split the bill three ways. Also, salads are stupid. 3) There are large speakers, but low-volume music. It's like the sound is using its six-inch voice in a nightclub. The Good 1) The eggplant pizza is so so so ....so good. The eggplant itself is of a flavor that I've never tasted before, but now want to taste always and forever. 2) Sausage + Panna is also so so so so good, especially if you like sausage on your pizza. And not liking sausage on your pizza is like not liking ketchup with your fries. Hey, it's yo' life. 3) The bill was separated amongst who ordered what instead of just splitting it evenly. This means I didn't have to order that stupid salad after all. When I go again, I'll definitely make sure to put down a name after work then wander about Washington Park and the like before going in for the kiln kill (so the wait doesn't feel as long). The wait is certainly a negative, but that doesn't negate the fact that the food is so freaking delicious. If you don't like delicious things, don't come here. Maybe then I can get a table quicker.

We were pointed to this restaurant by Symphony Hotel manager/chef David. Located just a block or two from Washington Park, we Yelped it on our walk over. A lot of reviews mentioned long wait times, but we were seated right away in front of the window! We were there for dinner around 5 or 6pm. My boyfriend ordered a ginger beer, which is like ginger ale with a stronger flavor. He enjoyed it, but it didn't mesh well with the pizza. For appetizers, we got the bacon-wrapped dates and the fried risotto balls. The risotto was good, but not great - the breading was a little mealy, but the cheese was all melty and delicious, and the house-made tomato sauce was awesome. The bacon-wrapped dates, though, were phenomenal. If I could eat a bucket of those, I would. As per recommendation, we ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza to share. It was cut into 8 slices - perfect for two. The fig jam/prosciutto/arugula combination was amazing, but I thought that there was a little too much prosciutto and that made the slice overall salty. We were too full for dessert, but I heard they have salted caramel gelato and I look forward to trying that the next time we're in town. All in all, an excellent meal - we'll definitely be back.

I hereby fling down the gauntlet. This is the best Pizza in the world. Let those of you who want to argue try it first and then let me know where to find better. I will proceed immediately in that direction. Not for one minute would I claim to have eaten in even a small portion of the world's great pizzeria but that's not to say there haven't been a bunch of them over the past decades. For example I never made it to Totonno's before the storm and now that it is open back up I'm headed there the next time I'm in the city. I can hear all you New Yorkers now scoffing at my assertion that this relatively new place in Cincinnati dares to claim a place in the pantheon of great parlors but I am telling you this is it. Small pies made fresh and fired up within a few seconds in the brick oven, I have eaten here several times and each time come away more impressed. This last time we had a simple pie of sage and house made pork sausage that was perfect. Don't forget to try the appetizers either. We usually get a couple of small plates of the stuffed dates and we had a bruschetta made with something that they called a bacon tapenade that was extraordinary. Cinci is a great place to eat pork, a point well proven by our experience last week. I am not afraid to be proven wrong but I'll have to taste it before I believe there is better pizza between here and heaven.

Up front, yes, it's all true: the food is great, the crowd is borderline-pretentious and the wait is long. Very long. Such is life with anything good and new. But if you're willing to look past this or, God forbid, come on a weekday and/or limit your party to two or three people, a dinner at A Tavola will be well worth a possible 30-40 minute wait. Me and a friend shared the pizza with radicchio, caramelized onion and wagyu meatballs (a substitute for bacon and my non-pork eating friend), the eggplant sliders (a seasonal item) and the fried risotto cakes. The pizza crust was crisp and had a beautiful char on it that played well with the radicchio, sweet onions and oily meatballs, though, I could probably care less for the superfluous wagyu tag. In truth, what good is well-marbled, tender meat if it's going to be ground and mixed with spices to drown out the beef flavors? It could have easily been substituted with a less expensive short rib or flank and tendons and I probably would not have noticed a difference. On the other hand, there was nothing superfluous with the eggplant sliders; they even looked plain as they came out of the kitchen. But make no mistake, they are devine. The toasted english muffin held up nicely as a bun, and you could still taste a beautifully balanced eggplant under the crisp, lightly-salted breading. A bright mayo/olive oil based sauce rounded out the simple slider. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was that made the sauce pair so well. All I know is that it worked. All in all, as the new kid on the block in ever-gentrifying OTR, A Tavola fills the void of places that aren't too heavy on the stomach or the wallet (and I do mean this relatively). Me and my friend managed to keep it at about 15 dollars a person and we also left very satisfied. Finally, a trendy non-New American place, and finally a place where I can embrace gluttony and not acutely feel it in my gut as I exit out the door.

I've eaten here a few times, the food is so fresh. Highly recommend the artichoke, goat cheese, salsa verde, tomato pizza, one of the best I've ever tasted. Plus if you sit at the pizza bar you can see all of the savory creations at this new Gateway Quarter addition.

Neat location, great food, good service. One complaint: Really weak wine selection. They have 4-5 red wines and 4-5 whites. Granted the house Chianti was really good and a great price, we'd like more choice. Definitely going back.

Ok this is my third time here. I don't normally rate multiple times but this place is just that good. Came here on a Saturday evening with my son...did need to wait about 30 minutes for a table but well worth it. This time we had the arancini for an appetizer. So good....perfectly fried on the outside and melted to perfection on the inside. The tomato sauce accompanied with it is perfectly simple. Cincinnati far out seasons it's sauce to a point where it is not even tomato sauce any more. Not here. We ordered two pies. One simple Margherita and a sausage and sage pie. The sausage pie was amazing. Made with fontina cheese and house made sausage. So tasty, spicy and creamy all at the same time. The Margherita was good as well....that is the staple for good italian pizza and they deliver. Best pizza joint in Cincinnati if you don't like the chain, over seasoned and terrible crust Cincinnati places. Don't come here if that is what you are expecting. Don't come here if you don't like brick oven Neapolitan style. Don't come here if you don't know what that is. Kudos to the owners!

Life can be a cruel joke sometimes. You can wait and wait and wait for a neopolitan style pizza place to open in your city and when it finally does, you move 600 miles away. Such is the heart-wrenching tale of Mike and A Tavola. The good news is I moved to a place where there are literally 10 places like this, but that doesn't take away from how good A Tavola is. I managed to get 2 trips in before I left and both times I enjoyed myself immensely, with a couple of rough spots. The food is untouchable. The homemade ginger beer makes an amazing Dark n Stormy. The appetizers are incredible. Bacon wrapped dates, sweet corn & ricotta bruschetta and arancini are all winners. The pizza is cooked in a proper wood-fired italian built stone oven, and you get the awesome blistering and soft dough that you just cant get with gas ovens. They do their own charcuterie (house cured bacon? why the hell not). Its great. The pizzas i had in order of preference: fig & proscuitto - brussels sprouts with bacon - diavola. All are top notch. Though I dont quite understand the use of fontina rather than mozzarella on some of their pizzas. I dont disagree with it, but its just interesting. The two bad marks I have to mention are just new restaurant things, its very very loud. im sure they'll, get around to fixing that eventually i hope. The other was the service. The first time, the bartender purposely ignored us because she knew and didnt like the person I was with. The second go-round, the pacing of the food was rushed, our pizzas were out less than a minute after our appetizers. Im sure on busier nights this isnt an issue, and its a small issue at that. Either way, the food was amazing, and whenever I make it home, A Tavola will be on my list of places to get to.

I was seeing a lot of hype regarding this eatery. I finally stopped in on a weekday evening to see what it was all about. We were immediately greeted by a kind host and led to a table. They have a good selection of both wine and beer. We spoke with our attentive server to determine the popular choices for pizza. We went for the fig and arugula. It arrived amazingly fast. I later learned the pizzas actually are only in the oven for about 75 seconds. Needless to say, it's a really hot oven! And it did a fabulous job imparting a brick oven flavor in the crust. The arugula was prime - not bitter at all. I give this pizza two thumbs up. While still looking over the menu after placing our pizza ordered, I noticed they had arancini. Wow! You don't see that often in these parts, so I had to partake. We placed our arancini order as the pizza arrived. The arancini were good, but not fabulous. They were served on a shallow pool of pesto. I felt the pesto overwhelmed the delicate cheese, rice, and crunchy crust flavor of the rice balls. The atmosphere was warm and seemed like a great place to share a meal with those special to you. I look forward to a return visit to try another amazing variety of pizza.

Worth the HYPE?! Definitely not. Full disclosure here, I partake not in the flesh, ovum, or breast milk of any creature, with a face. On that note a Trattoria may not have been the wisest choise, but given the places' "authenticity" I was sure there would be dishes served sans cheese. After all almost every other pizza spot in Cincinnati provides the vegans with options. Here is where John Travolta's (my nickname for the place since day 1) actually delivered . . . kind of . . . Breaking my experience down chronologically: The WAIT: If when my party arrives at 6pm on a Saturday and we put our name in 40 minutes wait time seems more than reasonable. 60 minutes even, but 2 hours is excessive. Then upon receiving the call that our table is ready, being told to wait another 20 minutes is definitely over the line. But at 8:20pm with 2 beers from the Lackman in everyone's system, trying to plan and search for food is a bit difficult. So we endured. The AMBIANCE: Bring earplugs and plan on enjoying silence. Whoever planned the restaurant may have been a bit over-zealous. With perhaps 2x too many tables and chairs it is almost like navigating Pan's Labrynth to find your seat. Combined with the deafening noise level of too many people trying to shout over each other to be heard, your only solace may be to head directly to the bar and try signing your drink order to the bar staff. Tables and chairs felt adequate, though they obviously did not plan on parties of 5+ coming in often as it was an uncomfortable squeeze for 4 pizzas, water, a few salads, and beers. FOOD: Indian style curry tomato sauce pizza with roasted cauliflower - Very meh. I could have mixed jar sauce with curry seasoning and roasted some cauliflower at home, put on a crust from Trader Joes, and BOOM, PIzza Authentico! Artichoke Pesto Bruschetta - again meh, and 2 bites for $5-6 seems a bit of a reach Cauliflower salad - THE BLUNDER! If something has cheese on it, even as garnish, perhaps it should be listed as one of the 3 ingredients. Militant vegan speaking? Or simple mistake by JTs? I vote for the latter. Would not recommend to anyone, given the already established pizza spots in this city. Yes it is in the heart of OTR, walkable, hip, and full of artisanal pork products. But given my experience and the consistent crowds of people spilling onto Vine St. when I ride past, it does not seem like John Travolta's will be focusing on guest comfort anytime soon.

YUM! Everything we had- arancini rice balls, eggplant sliders, and the Brussel sprout/fontina/onion pizza was amazing. The pizza crust is fantastic, I almost felt like I was back in Perugia, Italy where the pizza is to die for! If its busy you can try to grab a spot at the bar and enjoy your meal there! I'll be back !

The pizza is INCREDIBLE. I mean, it's basically cooked in a volcano, so there's that. Service is great. Their staff is very knowledgable and had many suggestions for our group that was visiting for the first time. It's a little pricey, so don't be surprised. If you split a pizza, it's more than enough and it will bring the per person cost down.

where to begin? we had a fantastic saturday double-date lunch here. +1 for decor. wooden tables, but not cut to standard sizes. knots and notches visible. neat. +1 for great service. our drinks were refilled every few minutes. +1 for great bacon-wrapped dates, served with their (very tasty) house tomato sauce. excellent. +0 for fair bacon tapenade. +1 for good chicken meatballs. +2 for amazing fig & proscuitto pizza. "is this what heaven tastes like?" i'd go back just for this pizza. +1 for good sausage & sage pizza as well. just not as good as the fig & proscuitto. :) tip: if you'd like to try more than one pizza, come with friends and split them. all pizzas are 14". recommended!

I really like the simplicity of this place. It's so cool. It can be a little congested in the evening of course, but it's worth the wait. I'm a fan of the Artichoke Pizza, delicious. The Egg Plant Sliders are pretty freakin yummy too. This is my second favorite place for great pizza... 1st place is across the river in Newport.

A group of friends and I decided to go to Bakersfield on a Friday night and we're given a 2-3 hour wait. Yikes! I know, what were we thinking?! It was freezing that night so the bars were packed and the idea of waiting that long didn't really appeal to us. After a short debate we decided to check out A Tavola. 45 minute wait! Sold! Once we were seated we were greeted shortly by our amazing waiter and quickly got our drink orders in. I got ginger beer with rum (can't remember the name for the life of me) and it was delicious. I got to try some of their roasted cauliflower appetizer and it was so good. Kind of sweet and salty and garlicy. Yum! For my entree I got the most boring thing on the menu. Yes, the cheese pizza. I even made my husband split it with me. I was quite pleased but I could tell he longed for something a little more unusual. If you're boring like me get it! It really was good. So yeah, service was good. Drinks were good. Food was good. A+++ Just as a note, their oven is so hot that they have to run the A/C even the winter. It was like 5 degrees outside and they were seriously running the air conditioner. Cray-cray.

Say it with me now, everyone: "Ah-TAH-vo-la" There isn't a food on the menu I am not a fan of, and trust me, I've tried everything! The fig and eggplant and artichoke pizzas are my favorites, though. Oh wait, and the brussel sprout, with bacon. Not to mention the cauliflower, bacon tapenade, aranchini and asparagus salad. Nom nom nom! It's not the cheapest food around, but it's not meant to be cheap. It's an upscale trattoria with a legit wood-fire oven imported from Italy (you should come inside just to check it out!) The staff are exceptional people (Though I may be a little biased) who genuinely care about the customers and are passionate about what they do. And the owners are phenomenal human beings who genuinely care about the community and people they serve. Yes, there are long waits sometimes and limited seating -- but trust me, it's worth it! Also, friendly insider-tip: Much less crowded during the weekday evenings than a Friday or Saturday :)

The pizza is getting sloppy. I go here often and the quality is on the wane. What I mean by that is that when the pizza arrives the toppings are soup so when you lift a slice all you're getting is dough and leaving the toppings on the platter. Come on guys, more heat, less time in the oven.

    (3)
  • Adam P.

I wanted to like this, but every bite of pizza was bitter because it was burned. It was fast though and the toppings delicious. The manager also just gave us a blank stare when we said the pizza was burned. An apology would have been nice. Oh well, first and last.

AMAZING! I am not the biggest fan of pizza so when my friend recommended that we go there for dinner before a show, I wasn't too interested. It was a chilly night and walking into a nice warm restaurant was very inviting. We sat right at the pizza bar which was a fun aspect to get to see all of the work that they put into each of their pizzas. We started with a few cocktails which are always enjoyable and the fried spinach appetizer. It came out quick and was very good. The light tomato sauce that was on top was perfect. We split the Fig & Prosciutto pizza and it was such a unique taste, definitely check it out. It is one of the house favorites. The fig jam really pops against the saltiness of the prosciutto. All in all, a very good experience for a non-pizza lover :) I will definitely go back.

The best pizza I have ever eaten. A little pricey, but definitely worth it. Great place for a date. They also serve late night pizza and drinks which is definitely something that was needed in OTR. If you haven't been do yourself a favor and get your name on the waiting list at about 5:30 on a Friday night and head over to Lackman for a few drinks or grab drinks at A Tavola's bar. Their bar tenders are always friendly and very knowledgable.

This place is a little pricey and little light on meat toppings, but the pizza in general is very good and the salted caramel gelato is suprisingly cheap compared to the rest of the menu and some of the best gelato I've ever had. It has a somewhat trendy feel to it but I saw all age groups eating inside. My waitress was very nice and helpful with the menu too.

Great fire-baked pizza!! Each Pizza is 14", thin crust, wood baked - truly artisan and classic. Bacon Tapenade Bruschette was amazing... We sat at the pizza bar, and got to watch everything get expedited form the kitchen - it was great to see all the appetizers and sliders come out of the kitchen, along with some amazing looking pizzas. Definitely a spot to hit up.

Of course in OTR this Saturday night we had to wait for our table even though we arrived at 5:45. But we knew that going in, that's par for the course arrving so late (!!), so we swooped on a couple of stools at the bar when hey opened up (well done Fiona), and settled in to pass the time before a table opened up. At the bar I started with a glass of Barbera (Thanks for stocking my favorite Piemonte reds). Whle we chatted we watched the bar staff making up cocktails so for round 2 I had the ginger beer + dark rum. Delicious. When served it is not mixed, so you have ginger beer on the bottom and rum on the top in separate layers. With the help of a straw I was able to get the unadulterated ginger beer from the bottom...definitely homemade, yummy. After about 45 min a table opened up. We were not in the mood for a pizza, being only 2 of us and they are only one size (quite large). We were going on somewhere else and not able to take a box home. We had a couple of appetizers (Arancini: fried risotto balls in flavorful tomato sauce, excellent; and Roasted Cauliflower: Tasty but a little on the cool side). For our entrees I had the meatball trio: Chicken, Beef, Chingiale; each in its own sauce; and added goat cheese and banana peppers (upcharge). Fiona had the Eggplant Slider which se rated tasty but could have used its own sauce on the side. I had another Ginger Beer and Fiona had a Pinot Grigio (crisp, not sweet, very good) and followed by the driest white she could find , Sanno Falanghina, a new one on me, cold and dry, worth tracking down again. All in all we loved the industrial chic atmosphere, noisy, fun, and we remarked that with the food , drinks and surroundings, we could easily be in Europe (except for the time of day!). Definitely worth a visit: As with all OTR hotspots, time your arrival or be prepared to wait.

My first experience at A Tavola was just OK. I went with a group of 6 on Saturday afternoon and we had to wait for 1.5 hours to get a table. I would have been fine with that if they didn't keep promising us a table "very soon". We sat at the bar, one bartender was helpful, but the other was rude, not attentive, kept forgetting to give us our drinks, and got incredibly angry when we asked to have individual checks for our drinks (since they don't transfer bills from the bar to the tables). The food was very good, but the service was sub par.

My love affair with pizza and everything that goes with its crusty territory recently brought me to A Tavola with friends. I had been by this establishment many an evening and never had the opportunity to try their offerings due to the large influx of patrons that were occupying every seat in the restaurant. Luckily on this evening at the zero hour for restaurants (7:00PM Saturday) we were able to have a party of five seated rather quickly. What ensued was an evening of face time with some of the most delicious pizza this side of the Atlantic (or Appalachians if you count NYC, or Indy if you count Chicago). Anyways, I ordered a pizza with house made bacon, goat cheese, and Fontina, stuffed dates (sausage, wrapped in bacon and topped with marinara) and a mixology inspired drank from the bar. The pizza at A Tavola is cooked in a wood-fired oven imported from Italy which cooks a pizza faster than a Tony's pizza in the microwave with much better results. The food was delicious and the service was very speedy and attentive even with the restaurant being crowded. A Tavola also offers up very good house wines that your very knowledgeable waiter can help you decide upon. Overall A Tavola is a great restaurant with delicious food and good spirits. It can be crowded and it is a bit pricier than your average pizza, but in my opinion it is completely worth rubbing elbows with friends during dinner if it means I can have pizza this good!

A party of seven on a Saturday night around 8 meant a two hour wait. BUT the pizza here is worth it. Stephan was our friendly attentive waiter and took our drink orders right away. Our group ordered from a great selection of (local) craft beer and spirits that were offered. On this visit we only ordered pizzas, but I have heard the meatballs are pretty phenomenal. Between the eight of us we had the Fig Jam Prosciutto (their signature pizza), Gorgonzola Piccante, Margherita, and Sausage & Sage pizzas. The size of the pizzas are medium and have eight slices, enough for two people. The prices were VERY reasonable. The Margherita pizza was only $10 and the others were $16. Everyone liked all the pizzas but the Margarita and the fig Jam Prosciutto slices flew off the pan. There were no to go boxes needed because we gobbled every last morsel. The atmosphere was great, very crowded, which is comforting to see in a local OTR establishment. My favorite part of the restaurant was the huge pizza oven in the back by the bar. It looked like it had been there for centuries and had cool shiny little tiles all over it. I would not recommend going on a Friday or Saturday unless you're willing to wait quite a while. Try this place on a week day for lunch and you'll be dreaming about figs and prosciutto!

Always an excellent idea! This place is amazing. They have unique and delicious food and drinks. Their servers and bartenders are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is relaxed. The tables are close together, but they make it work. You can't go wrong with any of their fire-grilled pizzas, but their fig and prosciutto is my favorite. They also have wonderful drinks. I love getting a glass of wine and sitting on their small but ideally placed patio. - Although don't leave your cell phone out on the table, the cops warned me one night people can walk by and steal it.- They also have their own recipe for ginger beer which makes their dark and stormy awesome. This is a must stop in OTR.

Wow, I walked into A Tavola with hesitation because of all of the awful reviews I've read... but I was blown away in a GOOD way! We arrived at about 5:45pm so that may be why we had absolutely zero waiting time and an abundance of seating to choose from. We chose to sit at one of the small tables at the window, which was fun because the four tables there are slices of tree trunks... bark and all! Pretty neat. Our waitress was quick and attentive to all of our needs. Three beers, an appetizer, a pizza, and gelato for just over $40 was a steal for the service and great quality of the food we were served! I don't eat much meat, but I indulged in the meatballs... which are INCREDIBLE. Get them with goat cheese - you will thank me. Also, dip your pizza crusts in the leftover sauce - you will thank me once more. The house-made soft-serve gelato was out of this world and a great way to end our night. Everything is local, fresh, and well-made. The staff was so friendly and eager to please without being fake about it. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

Great attentive service with fantastic pizza and drinks. The cocktails, while pricey, are delicious and very robust and from the looks of it they had a good selection of beer as well. We got the fig and arugula pizza. Its a bit sweet and almost taste like a desert pizza but the arugula with a light dusting of cheese off sets that to give it a sweet yet salty taste. Highly recommended!

I stopped in during Happy Hour on a Thursday evening with a friend who gushed over the place and their great beef meatball appetizer. He was absolutely spot on as we grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered up. Aaron, the bartender, is a true mixologist and very friendly. He fixed us a delicous A Tavola Old Fashioned as well as a Strasser Wassall which included Buliet Rye Bourbon, laird's applejack, strasser and cinnamon santiago. The owner, Nick, was seated at the end of the bar as well and my friend introduced me to him. He was an extremely nice guy and encouraged us to bring our wives back for a nice meal. Once the wagyu beef meatballs arrived they lasted maybe 2 minutes as we devoured them. Best meatballs I have ever had. We also ordered the eggplant sliders and they did not disappoint. I cant wait to take my wife back to enjoy a nice brick oven pizza.

I really enjoyed the pizza here. I got the brussels sprouts/fontina pizza and added balsamic arugula and it was really tasty and fresh. We also ordered the warm toasted olives - it was love at first bite - nicely seasoned. Service was great too. It was a Wednesday night and this place was hopping so they are clearly doing something right.

Out-Freakin'-Standing pizza! and if you get Steve as your waiter, just let him order for you. You can't go wrong with that formula... trust me... 6 years in the Marine Corps... everything I do is for the good of the country... I wouldn't steer you wrong... lol

Meatball slider was awesome, a great start. also had teh watermelon salad, i liked it, but my wife didn't care for the mint. finished with Fig and prosciutto pizza, it was killer. crust had a great char on it and was super billowy, just outstanding. a couple of bites i thought were really salty, but it didn't decrease my enjoyment. If you have kids with you, or someone who wouldnt enjoy the killer char on the crust, i'd ask them to take it out a minute or two early.

I never, ever do this, but I was so impressed with A Tavola that I just got a piece of paper out to write down what we ate so that I could recall it again here in this lovely review. First of all, it's taken me forever to actually eat here. They don't take reservations, so it's always crowded and there's almost always a wait (like 2+ hours)! So I was very excited that a friend was able to get us a table last night. We started out with several bottles of wine (how else?) and the following appetizers: Bacon tapenade + goat cheese Artichoke bruschetta Chicken meatballs Beef meatballs -and let me tell you... the beef meatballs were so good with a touch of pesto sauce and all the spices just combined perfectly. But the true winner goes to the bacon tapenade + goat cheese. Holy crap! No words... just yum. For dinner we got three pizzas: Margherita (for the less adventurous) Artichoke, goat cheese, salsa verde Margherita + bacon + egg -everything was great, and I really appreciated the creative touch of the fresh cracked egg on top of the pizza. How cool is that? It was really tasty, too. Like a breakfast pizza. The crusts were authentic, hand-tossed, bubbled, and blackish-brown in parts (that's NOT a bad thing-yummm). All in all, I really mean it when I give this place 5 stars. It is so delicious and so cozy inside (all the wood is hand carved) - a really great atmosphere. The kitchen is exposed, the staff is friendly, and the food is amazing. What more could you ask for? I have also discovered that I eat better when other people order for me. I also eat better when other people pay for me!

The pizza was really great! The atmosphere was fun and the staff was really nice. Risotto balls for appetizer - a little underwhelming. Their pizza is really unique and yummy though. If I went again I'd probably skip the appetizer and get 2 pizzas. Downsides: the wait is ridiculously long on Friday and Saturday nights if you don't go early enough. Also- if you go later in the night the place smells sort of funky... Maybe it's the cheese?

quick tip: they don't take reservations, and on a Friday night they have a 1.5 hr wait for a table. They will call you though so just show up, ask for a table, and then expect a call around when they said a table may be available. Now onto the review, 2 stars. I've never given such a poor rating but this is what goes into it. -1 PRICE, -1 gross appetizer, -1 very, very, very loud atmosphere. In Italy, I can order 2 pizzas, 2 appetizers, and a bottle of wine for 20-30 euro. At a tavola it was 78 bucks and in the US you then tip! the gross appetizer: yellow fin tuna bruschetta. I thought there would be a piece of tuna, maybe with olive oil, salt, garnish, on a toasted piece of french bread. OK, they did the bread right but on top of it was a disgusting puree of fish and who knows what. it tasted kind of like sardines? alright maybe not that awful but definitely not worth even a dog dare. maybe a double dog dare and I'd eat it again. The other app was arancini. I like to see authentic appetizers like this in the US. it was done really well. i've bought better ones in Napoli 2 for one euro but It's much cheaper to by them on vine street than pay for the plane ticket. so they were good and price was fine. Pizza: 16 dollars for a tiny pizza. this is getting out of control, guys. I'd pay that if the atmosphere was nice, at least i'd know the money was going into my experience not just the couple of dollars worth of ingredients. For having imported their oven from italy, why can't they put authentic pizzas on the menu. there are all sorts of strange pizzas. thankfully they have the margherita. to really judge a pizza place for authenticity you have to try the margherita. sorry, but I don't think even Queen Margherita would approve of 14-16 dollar tomato sauce and mozzarella pizza. hence the reason for not ordering it. I had the fig + prosciutto pizza and it was strange at first but then actually kind of nice. a little too sweet and what kind of prosciutto do they use? it's basically like thin canadian bacon. The other pizza was a anchovie pie and eh. The oven gives the pizzas a nice texture and flavor but for the reputation of this place, I was severely disappointed in my night. The restaurant is like a big hallway with two bathrooms and 1 toilet per bathroom. the lighting is strange, you sit a foot away from a neighboring table, and we had to yell to talk to each other. By the end of the night we were so tired from yelling and so sad from losing 90 + dollars to A tavola for a couple of pizzas and apps. Why is this place so popular? why is this hip? I thought hip/trendy people go to authentic+well priced places with good acoustics and hang out with friends. whatever. I guess i'm not that cool.

Closest thing to a true italian pizza.... You can easily get spoiled when you had the REAL thing in ITALY. It must be because the brick oven was shipped right from Italy. I don't give them 5 stars because they don't take reservations. I don't have time to waste in a restaurant. Forgot to add that the hostess treat you like they are doing you a favor. Just found out they open in Madeira and can't wait to go to a less crowded location.

I would move to Cinci just so I could eat at this place more often. In one sentence: It's an uber hipster, loud and crowded joint that's open late, has amazing pizza, and is home to THE BEST MEATBALLS ON THE PLANET. That is all.

My partner and I very much enjoyed our experience at A Tavola. The meatballs and dates were excellent but the best thing we ate was the eggplant slider - and neither of us care much for eggplant. The pizza crust was terrific although when I go back I would not order the prosciutto and fig jam pizza with Arugula. The proscuitto was top notch and the arugula on top reminded me of Italy, however, the jam is incredibly sweet (surprised I ddin't see that mentioned in other reviews I read) and we both were kind of over it after the second slice. Great cocktails (I had the Stefano which ranks up there with my favorite bourbon cocktails - (the Liberal Liberal at Local 127 and the Side Car at the Five Spot in Seattle) and a nice affordable wine list with most offered by the glass. We arrived at around 6:00 and our wait was the 30 minutes promised. I probably would not go here with a big group unless I planned to arrive at opening time (4:00) or some time closer to opening time. The overall service was excellent - we will definitely go back and would definitely recommend A Tavola to anyone. Couple additonal notes: 1. There were several tables where groups (and families) lingered for a long time after they were finished eating. I've read some complaints about that but for us it was rather nice to see people in Cincinnati enjoying their evening with each other rather than just going to eat at the trendy restaurant. 2. We sat at the pizza bar. The experience of seeing the different pizzas and appetizers was great (we ended up being offered an eggplant slider for free) . Even though there is a small glass barrier we both end up with a little bit of splatter and flour on our clothes and we smelled like we had been in the kitchen cooking when we left. It was part of the experience and we didn't mind but for those who might not enjoy that type of thing you may want to opt for a table.

Fig jam pizza and the meatballs! Can't go wrong. Pretty loud, but great food and great wait staff.

A Tavlola had a wonderful atmosphere, but not that unique - especially given its competition in OTR. I found the pizza to be nothing special - they will grab you with their random assortments of toppings...brussels sprouts, candied yams...whatever. If you get anything, go with the fig and prosciutto pizza.

When it comes to pizza I get all bombastic -- tossing rockets like "pizza is a beacon for community and the best communal dining experience." There it is... an elevated round circle in the middle of a table where all reach toward and from. It's like a Pompatus of Love. Speaking of love... the guy's smile that greeted us is forever embedded in my mind. We walked in late after rounds of suds at Japp's (cue applause for Over-the-Rhine becoming one of the finest nabes in the states), and after being told the kitchen was wrapping up... *boom!* Smiling heart steps up to let us know he'd love to see if he can have them open the kitchen back up to have us take in their prized pizza. I hate being the folks that ask for this, but sometimes it's really-really rewarding for all. He made it happen. I now love this man, and I'm not ashamed. *Stone IPA on draft. *Deep fried risotto balls on a bed of pesto *Margherita pizza *Nibbles off of tablemates' prosciutto-situation pizza. This was an ideal meal. Ideal-ideal-ideal. The crust is blackened and cracks just enough when you fold the slice. Yes, when *you* fold the slice -- go. now.

You know, I tried to give this place only 4 stars, but I went back and thought about it and realized, after the description I gave the server of how I felt about the pizza, I had to go ahead and give it the five. My sister and I went on a Thursday night, and were seated right away, in the front window, no less. We shared the special, a fried eggplant pizza- and each ordered a house salad, hers with cheese, mine without. The prices were decent, we got Guinness on draught, special...$3! Okay, I was already in love with this place. The salad came out right- No cheese! You'd be surprised how many restaurants have trouble with that simple request. What, I have texture issues?! The salad was simple, but delicious. Then came the pizza. It was one of the most glorious things I have tasted in a while. I told our server later, when we ran into him at Neon's- "It tasted like it descended from heaven on angels' wings." I meant it. Go to this place. Eat this pizza. Thank me later.

i like this place a lot. and it gets 5 stars because you can actually get a seat in here. and not because folks don't wanna be here, it's just laid out better than most places on vine these days. the staff is uber friendly and gracious. the pizza is expertly made. the poors are nice and big. it ain't no venice on vine, but it's pretty dang good.

Amazing! We went around dinner time on a Wednesday and it was just picking up customer wise. Our pizza was ready in about 10 minutes and was delicious. We got the eggplant pizza as well as the fig & prosciutto, both of which were amazing but I preferred the eggplant. They give a free dessert for my friend's birthday (your choice off of the dessert menu) which was an amazing plus! I will definitely be back!!

Upon arriving at 5:15 on a Wednesday afternoon, the restaurant was pretty much empty (athough it filled up within 45 minutes of my seating.) The hostess was lovely and offered me a seat by the window at a tree trunk style high top table, the bar, or the pizza bar. The wooden tables intrigued me, so I sat by the window where I could people watch. They have a good wine selection and i tried the Italian Nero d'Avola at $7. I was dining with my brother that evening, and being a very picky eater, was happy that he could make his own pizza. He ordered mozzarella and house made sausage on his and ate the whole thing! I ordered the bacon wrapped, sausage stuffed dates. ($6) They looked a bit burnt, as did the table next to ours. The flavor was actually really good, but the doneness of the them made for some really chewy dates. I also had the Wagyu beef meatballs.($10) Everything in it was perfect. The sauce, pesto, crusty bread, and the flavor of them left something on your palate. I also got the asparagus salad.($7) There wasn't that much asparagus. It did have pecorino, pine nuts, bibb lettuce, and a really tasty vinaigrette. It wasn't really that special. Our server did a good job, but I had this weird feeling that I was being more friendly than he was. We both did not see him smile once, not that that's the most important thing. I would like to see more of a dessert selection than just the 2 gelato selections, though these obviously aren't their specialties. I will go back to try other things for sure.

As a vegan, I love having so many options. I am OBSESSED with their roasted cauliflower. The staff is aways amazing and their beer selection is always the bomb. I love it here. I just wish they took reservations!

A Tavola is a great little pizza place stuck right in the middle of the OTR action. It's usually impossible to get in on the most popular nights of the week, but if you're yearning for some delicious handmade pizza you gotta make the effort. And, it's not only pizza, in case you're on a low carb diet. It's filled with young professionals, so don't expect to find a pizza "joint". The food and ingredients are all top drawer. It's not Pizza Hut.

The pizza crust is perfect with the right amount of char and unctuous chew. I love the unique and trendy toppings. The arroncini balls were really good as well the fresh salads. Their cocktails are hip and fun. The vibe is strong with a lot of energy. Even when it's busy, they get the pizzas out quick. Can't wait to got back.

Great wood fires pizza and more! We had the trio sampler of 1 beef, 1 chicken and 1 wild boat meatballs. Each was very unique, even the sauces they were served in. The bacon wrapped figs were outstanding, but they did have bacon.... We ordered a pesto pizza and a pepperoni with sausage pizza. We liked the pesto, but the pepperoni and sausage was fabulous! The sausage was spicy and each was cooked to perfection! We didn't order the roasted cauliflower. But after seeing it walk by, we will be sure to next time. We loved the food, the atmosphere, out waitress. I highly recommend!!

Hands down the best pizza around. The fig and prosciutto pizza is by far the best item on their menu. The stuffed dates are phenomenal too. I've been to both locations and if you dont want to wait head to the Madeira location.

I'm not a huge pizza lover, but when I do eat pizza.. this is my favorite. They have a unique pizza menu, quality ingredients, you can customize your own from the sauce to the cheese, and they also have an assortment of yummy appetizers. I would highly recommend the prociutto, arugula, and fig pizza and their sliders are pretty delicious too. And of course, the salted caramel gelato.. which DOES live up to all of its hype. They have a wait almost every time I come here, so shoot for a week day if you can. Keep in mind that their pizza is more "upscale", so unless you're more into thicker crusts and loads of sauce and oil and bleh... then you should appreciate this place : )

It was ok the service was iffy our waitress was a bit of a space cadet and i personally was not impressed with the food. Lots of other places to eat including little vince prices are better and so is the food. I am not a pizza fan so take my review with a grain of salt. Speaking of salt the Margaretta was way to salty

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
