Good atmosphere and menu selection. Outside seating area is nice. Service was decent the few times I've been here. One of the few above average restaurants in Cambridge.

Friendly service, nice atmosphere, decent prices, extensive menu. Had the fish taco & the hubs had a pizza burger with fries, of course I sampled his. The burger & fries were good, not amazing, just OK. My fish taco looked amazing but that's it. There was hardly any fish in it; it was supposed to be Mahi Mahi but I could not confirm that because the piece of fish was so minuscule. In my reviews there are many a fish taco.... I love, love, love Mahi fish and if it's delivered in a soft taco, my day will get 1000x better. The fish taco here made me sad, very sad. This place is OK, food is OK, just don't try the fish taco if your craving fish.

We arrived in Cambridge in random fashion. After an intense adventure at Adventure Creek in St. Clairsville, we decided to crash in a location somewhere closer to our home base in Columbus. Intense exercise on an empty stomach. Need food. So we cruise the Internet to find a place to get our staple foods: steak, potatoes, fish, wine. At this point, cost is not a concern. We're so hungry, we'll pay anything to get a decent meal. Important note: we (my loving partner and I) are both gluten-allergic. Not anti-gluten as some fad. The genetics are detailed in blood tests from the Mayo Clinic. Chromosome 6. It's a real condition. Restaurants need to learn to deal with this and Central Station Steak and Ale clearly has not. Here's what happened. We asked for the seared scallops as an appetizer--without the rice pilaf. Just the scallops. In butter. Real butter. No garlic butter or whatever. Because this is actually an entrée, we got a couple of sides. Both decent. All good, so far. Next, we then ordered the 18 oz. porterhouse, rare, with a baked potato and the mahi mahi with mango salsa. One of the sides, included with the mahi mahi, was a side salad, no croutons (obviously, of course, but we specified to our server, just to be clear). Within the side salad we discovered two tiny croutons. Now, if this were a peanut allergy where anaphylaxis and the possibility of death were involved, perhaps people would take note. In our case, the consequences for such a misstep is not for polite conversation. Skin lesions. Inability to evacuate bowels properly. Narcolepsy (in my girlfriend's case). Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO, in my case...requires a ridiculous antibiotic regimen, antibiotics that, with the benefit of good insurance, cost over $200). Our server seemed nice enough. These things happen. We ask to speak with the manager. Not to demand a free meal or anything. No harm was done. We're careful people and we discovered the croutons before eating any of that salad. Still, any restaurant manager needs to be aware of these issues. So we feel the need to have that conversation. Anyway, the manager pretends to care about our issue but, incredibly, mentions that, "yeah, the spices in those croutons are unreliable." Uhh...true, I suppose, but the immediate problem here is a couple of croutons teeming with wheat proteins. The manager then graciously (sarcasm alert) offered up the great peace pipe of not charging us for the salad. Does the manager not know that the side salad was free, included with the meal? We ordered three entrees. Lots of sides involved (six to be precise). And one of them, cottage cheese, never even got delivered. Not that we cared by that point. The "rare" porterhouse? Medium. At best. No pink. Smallest 18 oz. porterhouse I've ever seen. Sorry, that's not a $40 steak. More like $10 at Sizzler. To conclude this story of ludicrous culinary and customer service ineptitude, I ask for a seal for our second, not fully consumed bottle of wine. The server's response: "You don't need one. If you get pulled over with an open bottle, just show them the receipt from this restaurant." That is NOT my understanding of Ohio law. And, frankly, that was a half-full second bottle of wine, which puts us both (whomever drives us back to the hotel, me or partner) on the edge of 0.08 and a DUI. So I'm supposed to show law enforcement evidence that I'm trotting the line and invite a field sobriety test? I'm a patient and gracious person, but this low rating here reflects a series of failures on the part of this establishment--any one of which is not befitting of a professionally-run restaurant. I will say that the patio was nice and if you're not celiac, it's probably a good place to enjoy some nachos and a beer. Our tab was $140. But, hey, the poison-filled salad was "free." Thanks Central Station Steak and Ale!

After seeing some good reviews we decided to give Central Station Steak and Ale a shot for 15 (7 adults 8 children) after a swim meet. We got there about 6 PM on a Saturday evening and we were seated quickly. The menu was large with many choices including steak, seafood, salads, chicken and pasta. The Cajun shrimp fettuccini Alfredo was awesome. It had 8 large grilled Cajun shrimp cooked perfectly with a creamy sauce that we tasty but not too rich. It was the best pasta dish I've had in some time and in Cambridge, OH! Service was friendly, fast and not rushed, even though we had a large group on a Saturday night. We'll definitely be back next time in Cambridge.
