Tried the Tempest and it was amazing. The quality of the dog itself is way up there, and all the toppings tasted fresh. Great little kitschy concept they pulled together. Love the atmosphere. My only complaint here is size. Pretty cramped space.

It's ok but the hype of this place doesn't match the food. Everything tasted fine but none of it was special. The casings on the redhots were extremely tough, biting through those things was a bit of a task. The girl asked us if we wanted ketchup when she brought us our fries and then we never saw her again. I guess for $4 per dog (I believe the ones I had were called The Dixie) I was expecting more. I could go to any random dairy shack type place and probably enjoy my food more.

Not the best place I have ever eaten and not the worst. Fries are almost always cold and the workers are sometimes not friendly. The hot dogs are good though and good quality. Wide variety of toppings and you can build what you like on them.

Let me start off by saying that I'm from Columbus, and a big fan of Dirty Frank's. When my cousin suggested we go here, I was looking forward to seeing how they measured up. O'Betty's 1 - Dirty Frank's 0. This may be one of the smallest restaurant's I've ever been in. They have seating for maybe 15-20 people. It wasn't busy at all when we stopped in, but I imagine at prime hours, you better plan on getting it to go. The decor of this place reminds me of something out of a Tarantino movie. Lots of burlesque photos, odd lighting, beaded curtain and hot dog memorabilia. The music that was playing added to the feeling that some crazy shit was about to go down any second. All that being said, it's kind of a cool vibe going on. On to the food. I had a Dixie and a Gypsy. I wanted to keep it fairly simple my first time to really taste the dogs. That was an excellent decision. The dogs themselves are fantastic. They've got a great snap, juicy and just delicious. The toppings were good as well, they were a great compliment to the the flavor of the dog. I also got a small order of fries. They were also fresh & delicious. I loved O'Betty's and think you will too! I can't wait to get back!

Great little hotdog place with wonderful brats and sausage sammies Check out their museum. .

I was very impressed with the hotdog itself but, they over top it and the bacon was burnt. I would definitely try them again but, would probably build my own dog instead of getting one of their signature dogs.

Flat out, best hot dog joint I've been to. The diversity here is amazing - there is a dog for anyone here. I got a special for the day, the mighty Aphrodite, and as you can imagine it was Greek themed. The toppings were plentiful and delicious. The hot dog was made from chicken, and it was very flavorful with great snap. I also got the cole slaw and it was nice and crunchy with good flavor. Nothing fancy, but house made and fresh. Chili cheese fries were ridiculous, and no fake cheese sauce here. All real stuff. The chili was a touch spicy with good cinnamon flavor all topping fresh made fries. Whenever I am in Athens, I will make every effort to support this local hot dog spot.

It's been a long time since I ate at a dog stand. When you walk into the stand you immediately are by the kitchen, menu and ordering. Take a moment to look over the menu on the wall. Sausages, hot dogs, and tofu sausages are the main selection and fries, beans and slaw are the sides. The music is eclectic and the decor from the 40s and 50s. About a dozen seats are available. At your table there is salt ketchup and malt vinegar. Or you can order from the dozen or two mustards ketchup or mustards. If you love garlic the garlic fries are for you. I made the 'mistake ' of ordering two sandwishes... the lupe daily special and the Sophie which had onions kraut and whole grain mustard along with the small garlic fries. Too much food. It pained however not to get a taste of the signature chilli. Guess another stop is needed.

I don't even like hot dogs and I would eat at O'Bettys. I highly recommend their cheesy fries. They are to die for.

Ok.... The place is REALLY cute..... The food is awesome! But this guy on the grill is the rudest person I have run into in Ohio yet! Our friends who are from here were so excited to take us to this place and now with this guy, everyone is just upset. Costumer service, no good!

Love this place. I've been to Athens a few time to visit the in laws and finally decided to scan Yelp for what's hot. O'Betty's came up, so we decided to give it a try. I couldn't resist a hot dog with chili on it, so I had the Dixie. My husband and FIL had the Syra. The MIL had a Tiara Lee. I really enjoyed the Dixie, even though it was a bit different from the chili dogs I've had in Texas. Since it was the chili sauce and not the chili itself, the hot dog had the flavor of a chili dog, but I didn't have to battle messy fingers and catching bits of meat falling. The husband really enjoyed the mushrooms and white cheese on his hot dog. I really think the high quality beef dogs make this place amazing. I could have eaten 3 plain hot dogs in one sitting. The Tiara Lee was pretty good too. The cheese was very melty, almost like cream cheese. We also ordered fries and garlic fries. I really enjoyed that they were hand cut and crispy. When I get garlic fries, I really want my mouth to stink. Unfortunately, it was more like crushed garlic bits on top of the fries. The garlic didn't really stick, when it would have been really easy to mince the garlic and tossed the fries with the minced garlic and a bit of salt and olive oil. That would have made it even better. The atmosphere is a mix of kitschy burlesque and hot dog memorabilia. Kinda odd but it works (going to have to trust me on that). The staff is nice and delivers the hot dogs and drinks to your table.

Very cool little hot dog joint tucked away down one of the side streets off of Court St. in downtown Athens. I have to admit that, while I'm not much of a hot dog fan, I loved this place for its style. It's a hole in the wall that is totally charming. It's all done up in 1950s kitsch, with pictures of Bettie Page and other vintage pin-ups everywhere. The dogs are all named after 50s and 60s pin-ups. There's a great, fun, sexy, tongue-in-cheek feel to the whole place. Imagine a hot dog stand run by John Waters or Russ Meyer, and you get the idea. Think "Faster, Pussycat, Kill, Kill" + hot dogs. (Amazing, right?) Definitely worth a look. If you're not in the mood for a hot dog, try their fries--they're great too. A good late-night (read: after bar) option.

I came from columbus to visit a friend and I saw this place. Hands down its the best hot dog I ever ate in whole OHIO. The people who works there they are very good. I tried their chicago styl ehot dog it has a name though. it's amazing and so delicious the seating area is very nice and causal as I like it for hotdog places. Thiis place is good for bites. Dont miss it out!

You know you're in a college town when you enter a tiny hot dog restaurant that has 60's big band music playing with 75 frames of some white guy with long wavy hair and a goatee who is supposed to be Jesus and one brown guy of a similar description, lining the walls. My wife ordered the Salome and I ordered the Dixie along with one order of chili cheese fries. This is why O'Betty's gets a 4-star rating from me......for the simple fact that we could eat here. Neither of us eat beef or pork and that usually limits the things we can order at various places we want to try out. However, O'Betty's offers every one of their dogs with a vegetarian option and even offers veggie chili so we could have the chill cheese fries. The dogs and fries were ok, two-and-a-half to three stars, however, the cheese fries portions were huge and again, that was another plus. There was the distinct taste of sage or some other spice in the dogs and chili which I didn't too much care for, but that wasn't a deal breaker. The service was excellent as the young woman who took our order was very nice and attentive.

Hot dogs and burlesque! What's not to love? My significant otter and I stopped in Athens on the way back home from C-Bus. This place came up with 5 stars on Yelp so we thought we'd give it a go ... and Yelpers did not steer us wrong. I wasn't very hungry so I got a side of slaw - it's most excellent! - and garlic fries - very garlicky so they're most excellent, too. The otter got a Blaze and a Mata Hari and liked them both though he preferred the MH as it's closest to a WV dog (minus the onions and mustard). I tried a bite of this and their chili is very good, too. The interior is decorated with lots of pix of burlesque artists, as well as photos of the lovely Bettie Page. The back room houses the hot dog museum which includes all sorts of kitschy hot dog items. I'll be going back, for sure.

Everything in life happens for a reason (more or less). Moving to Athens years ago & being in such close proximity to O'Betty's is one of the reasons I feel that sentiment holds any weight. I've never had a bad experience at O'Betty's...best hot dogs I can find in Ohio. Everything is ridiculously good! Lately I've been on a Tempest kick; the sweat pouring down my forehead lets me know I've made the right choice. Really dig their made-to-order fries but sometimes wish they had a little more variety as far as beverages go. They brew their own tea (organic?) and they have soda in cans/root beer in bottles.

Stopped on our way to Columbus, had the Dixie and the Sally along with cole slaw and baked beans. Everything was fantastic. The Sally, with bacon, tomatoes, romaine and mayo, would not always be first choice, but it was a good change-of-pace dog. The chili on the Dixie was a nearly perfect sauce. Hot dogs were the kind with snappy cases, yum. Will be back.

I heart O' Betty's! Oh how I love and miss O' Betty's. This place truly is one of THE BEST places to get a the all American tasty treat that is, the hot dog. Now, I'm really big on hot dogs and try them wherever I can, in whatever city I may roam, but none from my past or present have compared to the dogs at O'Betty's. My absolute favorite is the Blaze. I even named my stuffed dragon after the dog, which incidentally, the dog was named after the burlesque star, Blaze Star. Actually, I believe all the dogs on the menu are named after a burlesque beauty. Hence the tag "weenie with a wiggle". :o Not only are the dogs good at O'Betty's but the cheese fries are something else! I'm not even a fan of cheese fries but these are grrrreeeeat! They put this sauce type cheese with shredded cheese over it...and somehow the fries stay crispy. Ohhhhh...I'm melting at the thought of O'Betty's even as I type. I guess I should stop at this point, if not I will simply go on and on and gush even more over how fabulous O' Betty is. I tell every hot dog place I visit about you. I feel like they must know of your greatness and attempt to match your awesomeness. And last but not least, I must make mention of their hot dog museum that is housed in the little restaurant. I love quirky things and this fits the bill. Try O'Betty's if you are ever in S. east Ohio or at the very least plan to make a visit at some point in your life. You won't be disappointed.

Known for their hot dogs but once I looked over the menu, I was intrigued by their "spent grain" pizza dough and thought I'd try it. It's the grain that's left over after their brewing process for their micro-brew. I had the Pesto pizza and it was fantastic. I hope to be able to got there again some time!

We found this spot after a 2.5 mile hike. We were hungry and needed something filling and delicious. OBetty's was perfect. The hotdogs were delicious and the toppings perfect. Fries were fresh and very cheesy as the name implies. The decor is kitschy and silly. And the prices were good too! This place is crazy good. You can't go wrong here. I've been to other hot dog joints, including dirty franks in Columbus. They just don't compare. Love this place!!

Best hotdogs in Athens! Everything is house made and just taste the best. And they have a great atmosphere

Really enjoyed this place. They use a local brand of all beef hot dog that cooked up very nicely, skin had a nice snap. Had I known they had veggie dogs, I'd like to have tried them too. All of the dogs seemed to be burlesque themed. There's two tables outside to sit at and 5 or 6 inside. We sat back by the hot dog museum. It's pretty cool to see. It's a bunch of hot dog related things. The fries were excellent. I had mine with two types of cheese and fresh garlic. On my trip I tried Skyline and Blue Ash. The chili here may have been my favorite out of the three. Between this and Blue Ash it was close.

O'Betty's is Awesome. The hot dogs are top notch. You can even order your dog 'shy' if you'd prefer a veggie dog, and they are THE BEST veggie dogs I have ever had. I hear their all Beef dogs are killer, too. The Hot Dog Museum in the back is captivating. Yes, there is a Hot Dog Museum. The service is great. Always friendly and fast. I am especially fond of the little guy with the red "henna" on his arm. Whatta Hottie!

I'm from the Columbus area and am a big fan of dirty Franks, so I had to try o'bettys. Like dirty Franks it's kinda divey in a fun way. The dogs were great. Wonderful casing with a great snap when you bite in. The chili was a touch sweet but had a nice heat to it. I had the go man go. A bacon wrapped dog (cause anyone who knows me will tell you I love bacon) with their child, a house made sweet mango salsa and cheddar. Man it was good. Beautiful mix of sweet and hot. My wife had the Mata hari. Same chili and a wonderful house made slaw. Their version of a West Virginia slaw dog. Also great. Next trip I'm skipping the great fries and getting a side of the slaw. Speaking of the fries tried the cajun and regular. Both were well done. They say that they double fry them. What I know is they bring the out as soon as they are done, hot and crispy. A small was enough for two people, maybe even three if you're trying more than one dog. The collection of hot dog history adorning the walls just completed the whole experience

A wonderful location right in the middle of everything with great food and a rather eclectic (read "fun") atmosphere. I met a friend there for lunch with our kids (both around 10). They have a multitude of hot dog topping options from the ordinary to the downright strange. My son and friend had the Dixie (chili, cheese, onions and mustard) minus the onions and mustard, while I went for the option the guy at the counter called "the BLT on a hot dog" - with lettuce, tomato, bacon and mayo. Everything was great! We got 2 orders of fries for the table - one with cheese and one plain and the overall consensus was that their fries are really great whatever way you eat them. My friend remarked on how good the chili was on her hot dog, so all in all a great time was had by all! We will return again, and next time I'll bring my chili and slaw hot dog loving husband!

Normally I'm really disappointed with the whole hot dog culture. I think a Hot Dog is a gross food creation. And FLIPPIN leave it to O'Betty's to change my mind... You wont find a dog here that is just simply dressed in mustard and ketchup, no no my friend your getting bacon and coleslaw, or chili and cheese, and call me when you've had their dog with peppers, relish, a pickle spear and other veggies. HA HA! yeah that's what I'm talking about! The shop has a window so you can order to go, or sit into their unique shop have a coke and some fries with your order. It's the best hot dog experience I've had, these wieners are winners.
(4)
Jessi S.
Great hotdogs and chili cheese fries. However, worst service ever! It is a great late night spot, but you'll be waiting outside the window for a good half hour while you wait for your delicious dog.

Alexandra C.
I fell in love with soy dogs here, and their Cajun fries are the best in town. They don't have as large a menu as their cousin Dirty Franks in Columbus, and the menu gets even smaller during late night hours, but everything on it is delicious. The burlesque theme may not make it the best place to bring conservative people, but the food is great and the service is great.

Stopped in on my last trip to Athens to see what all of the fuss was about. Glad I did, because they serve one of the best dogs I've ever had. I got the Dixie and the Salome. Both were delicious. I would like try some of the other menu items, but not living in the area, it makes it tough. Definitely plan on making a return in the future. The place itself is quite small, but they manage to fill that space well with vintage pin-up girl pics and memorabilia. Not much room, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a large group. The employees were a hip bunch and they were super helpful and polite. Definitely give them a visit. If you like hot dogs and vintage pin-up culture, this place is for you. .

I have to say this is a close rival to Dirty Franks in Columbus, OH. While the menu isn't as elaborate, it certainly captivates. Every dog can be done carnivorously or vegetarian, down to a delish veggie chili sauce. The real-meat dogs are sourced from Cleveland (my hometown) - I think it comes from one of the people who have a stand in the West Side Market. My S.O. really enjoyed the authentic snap to the dog. We both ordered the Dixie 'Hubba-Hubba' "Everbody's Favorite, Dixie delights using Homemade O'Betty's Chili Sauce, Fresh Diced Onions, Aged sharp Cheddar Cheese, and Stadium Mustard! $2.95" We grabbed our dogs and consumed them at Lucky's just up the street. O'Betty's has an almost old fashioned type walk up window. Peeking in the door was fun though, and we'll need to stop back for a dine-in. We need to try the fries everyone has been raving about.

As good as O'Betty's is sober, it may be the best "drunk food" I've ever had. Easy walk up order window that is open late into the night, as well as their interesting hot dog museum dining room open during the day. Seating is cramped, and at night the line can get long, but these don't really detract from the delicious experience --- it comes with the territory of being one of the most popular eats on campus. The cajun fries are incredible.

Soooo good! Loved the dogs and the chili cheese fries. I had a Lily - great taste. The dogs were perfectly cooked & snap when you bite them. Great decor too

I have eaten here both late at night and at normal dinner hours and it was delicious both times! Also, the inside is filled with cute, kitschy hot dog stuff. Their french fries are amazing and they have a vegetarian chili they put on the fries that is super good!
(4)
Patrick C.
If you look up tacky decor in the dictionary you will see a picture of O'Betty's and that is 5 stars. Had the Lily and fries and was in love with O'Betty's. The place is soooo small that you can taste what the table next to you ordered. My only recommendation is 50's rock and roll and then you get 6 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(5)
Jonathan O.
I dare you to show me a tastier hot dog. This place has a 'hot dog' museum, as well. Love and miss ya, baby.

As far as hot dog places go, O'Betty's has no peers. The vibe and concept of this place cannot be beat, and neither can the food. All the dogs are named after burlesque stars, and the place's decor is essentially a mini-hot dog museum. Here's all you need to know: Even after I stopped being a vegetarian, I STILL ordered the vegetarian dog here because they're that good. I can't imagine a stronger endorsement that that. Add to the amazing dogs, the fries. They make them fresh throughout the day and are easily in the top 3 fries I've had in my entire life. O'Betty's is one of Athens Ohio's most valuable hidden gems, and if they were in a larger city like New York, they'd be featured regularly on Food Network shows, no question.

This is such a local charm!!! The fries are out of this world!!! Yum!! Tried two dogs on the suggestion of the employees!!! Not disappointed!!!! Definitely want to come back!!! So good!!!

Dear woman working the grill 1pm Saturday, Thank you. Thank you for the best hot dogs I have ever had in my entire life. I love hot dogs. I have had many good ones, but these were AMAZING. The habanero salsa on the Tempest was hot and delicious, and the crisp lettuce and crunchy bacon on the Sally was the perfect contrast. I cried tears of joy. It's two days later. I can still taste them. I am so sad that I live in Texas, and that it will be awhile before I can come back to Athens. But the first place in town I go to will be O'Betty's.

Oh O'Betty's. My friends have been at OU for three years and when I was there with a different friend, he introduced me to O'Betty's the other week! Some friends, huh! Wow! I got the hot dog that had chili and cheese on top and the fries that had chili and cheese on top... I was a little pricy, but it was delicious! This is probably the best late night food I have had in Athens. I will have to go there again to get a good taste of some of the other dogs they have to offer during Halloween.

Absolutely delicious, best hot dogs in Ohio! Spicy Fries are delicious as well. Open til 3am or later, this was a great stop on the way home from Court St.

This is a fun little hot dog place on West State Street in Athens, just off Court. They have vegetarian and regular dogs catering to all tastes, which go great after spending a couple hours Uptown. Simple enough: Walk up to the window, order up and wait for them to hand it out. This particular evening, the Mrs. and I had the vegetarian and regular versions (respectively) of the "Dixie." This tasty concoction consists of a really tasty beef dog topped with coney sauce, shredded cheese, onion and a spicy brown mustard. Deeeee-lish, kids. Incredibly friendly staff, and fast service, even at 2AM. Good food stop.

We found this place on the Road Food website and stopped here on our way from the East Coast to Hocking Hills. It's a tiny hole-in the wall; in fact when we came in there were three people at the bar in front and some OSU student filming them, plus the two employees behind the counter. Thought we couldn't eat there until I discovered the dining room in the back. Dogs were good, with nice fries. I had the spicy German brat with 'kraut. Everyone else had a dog - well, the kids had regular dogs, wife had a veggie dog. We ordered two specials and two dogs ala carte, with a couple drinks, and it was about $18 bucks. Can't beat that. Plus we got to browse the hot dog museum!

Bettie Page and hot dogs!? It couldn't get any better for me. Fantastic burlesque names. Fantastic hot dogs and fries. Fantastic decor. Fantastic hot dog museum wall. Fantastic book: "The Pigeon Finds A Hot Dog!" Fantastic prices. Awesome.
(5)
Rachel L.
AMAZING! Every hotdog I've had from this place was completely delicious. The regular fries, cheese fries, and chili-cheese fries all rock, too! It really doesn't matter what you order- you can't go wrong! All the dogs are under $5 and fries are $3.50-ish (if I remember correctly), so it's a great price for a lunch or dinner.

While O'Betty's is well known for catering to the drunken masses at late hours, this is not your typical drunk food in the slightest. O'Betty's is still as delicious even when your hangover has faded. The Matinee special is one of the best deals in town (dog of your choice, small fry, and a drink for around 6 bucks), so O'Betty's is a perfect spot for lunch as well as for your midnight cravings. The fries are perfection--hand cut and made to order. The dogs are sourced from Cleveland and are always deliciously browned, served on a toasted bun, and served with various toppings, some conventional and some not. I particularly enjoy the Mata Hari, the Tempest, and the Dixie, but I've enjoyed everything I've ordered. If none of the speciality dogs sound appealing (if that's true, there's probably something wrong with you), you can always build your own dog. The daily specials are always unusual and always tasty. Please don't dismiss O'Betty's as mere "drunk food;" it's easily one of the most affordable, quirky, and quality places in Athens.
(5)
Jason F.
The best place in Athens. If you are a vegetarian this is the place to go! Their tofu dogs are the best tasting tofu dogs I have ever had. Also it is pretty inexpensive and it is just a great place to hangout. If I could recommend anything it would have to be a Tempest shy (Tofu dog) with a side of Cajun fries.

"The Weenie with the Wiggle," says the tagline of O'Betty's ... No stop in Athens is complete without a visit (or two or three) to this locally owned and operated burlesque show-themed hot dog joint. Deservingly, it's been voted "best hot dog" in Athens consistently since 2004 (it opened in 2003). They serve 5 Star hot dogs, which are all-beef, natural-casing hot dogs from Cleveland, Ohio. The menu features twelve hot dog "varietease" named after burlesque dancers, such as Salome "Dance the 7 Veils", Lilly "The Cat", and my favorite Blaze "The Queen" which includes homemade creamy sweet Cole slaw with smoked bacon. Tofu dogs are also available. Bob, the owner, formerly worked at Casa Nueva, the worker-owned gem across the street. He's the visionary behind all the creativity that makes O'Betty's so special. And, to boot, he's just the most easy going and kind man. Be sure to explore the hot dog museum in the dining area of the restaurant. Yes - they have a shrine to all things wiener-related!

I just ordered a hot dog from O'Betty's for lunch and I'm already thinking about going back for dinner. This place is great, I can't wait to try everything on the menu.

Great food, great building and atmosphere in the great little town of Athens, Ohio. I get the "Dixie" every time I go and it's delicious. The chili cheese fries are also very good. The staff is super nice and get you your food quickly. Best hot dog i've ever had. Make sure to stop by if you are in Athens, visiting Ohio University, or in nearby Southeast Ohio.

Wicked. Stopped in here, with help from Yelp, totally by accident while we're traveling through OH. Worth the detour. Dogs and fries were both great - especially liked the crack of the skin you get from these well-cooked hot dogs.

O'Betty's knows good dogs. Their service is also red hot.

I'd say some of the best hotdogs I've had. It's hard to find a good hot dog loaded with tons of toppings that work well together, and the service was really good, it may look like a small hole in the wall that you aren't so sure about at first, but it turned out great and I'd go back for lunch any day.

O'Betty's is fantastic is pretty much every way. Great prices, great location, and great food. I am partial to the Cajun chili cheese fires. It's hard to find a really good hot dog place. Most cities you're pretty much relegated to a stand here and there. O'Betty's takes hot dogs and makes it into an art form and their vegetarian friendly to boot (it's hard getting a vegertian to agree to a hot dog restaurant). Also the late night window service is amazing after a night out at the many bars that Athens has to offer. There is some limited seating inside and its a pretty funky space filled with hot dog collectables from around the world. I'd highly recommend stopping by here if you're in Athens. There is something on the menu for everyone even non-hot dog fans.

Awesome hotdogs and service !!
(5)
Amy B.
The food is consistently good and vegetarian-friendly. Any regular hot dog can be switched out for a veggie dog, and the same goes for the chili on the chili cheese fries. I'm a picky eater, so I usually just get a veggie dog with ketchup and stadium mustard (or two). The veggie chili cheese fries are THE BOMB.

o'betty's - i dream of you every day and night and brag to my friends in chicago about you. i'm not exaggerating when i say everything is delicious. hands down the best hot dog place ever - and i've been around - hot doug's in chicago, pink's in LA - nothing compares! the cheese fries are also a must - they're hand cut with a little bit of skin on them. besides the food, the staff is always nice and the place is stocked with wonderful hot dog memorbilia. they're open late too! the only downside is it's a one-and-only in athens, ohio. :(

I cannot believe I am the first to review O'Betty's! O'Betty's may be the most unique restaurant or business I have ever seen. It is a hot dog stand, but it really is so much more. If John Waters were to open a fast food chain, I imagine it would be quite a bit like this. All the hot dogs are named after burlesque stars, and the restaurant is decorated like a bordello. No, I am not making this up. There is also a museum of hot dog memorabilia. During Christmas, there was a display of vintage Jesus artwork, and every year, O'Betty's hosts a local hot dog eating contest. If all this were not enough, the food is really out of this world. The hot dogs are imported from Cleveland, and give a hearty snap when bitten into. The tofu dogs are arguably just as good. But the real star may be the hand cut fries, which can be smothered with all sorts of goodness, including fresh garlic and cheese. If you pull into Athens and can only do one quick thing, I suggest going to O'Betty's. I do not think you will soon forget it.

Visited the niece & nephew over an extended weekend trip, and of course I yelp up my list of places to eat. :) And Oh Shoot, I really enjoyed myself. Now I'm a huge fan of Top Dog in Berkeley. Last time I went to Norcal, I went twice in a day trip (spent the rest of the days in the City). This place is different, but in a good way! Ordered "Sophie 'Last of the Red Hot Mommas'". For some reason, the dog seemed huge! I had about 2 bites leftover. :) The bun was toasted, but the sauce was a bit overloaded (creative) so it got soggy at the end. Man, it was spicy. Also got garlic fries with the garlic mayo (extra), and it was DELICIOUS. The boys behind the counter were incredibly sweet. I don't know what it was but they were charming as heck. :) Athens is a pretty and quiet town. I would come back for the kids & O'betty's.

Just when I was about to give up hope of finding not just good fries but edible fries in this area along came O'Betty's. Once I clicked on the website and saw how they made their fries I drove there within 10 minutes. The fries are 5-Star all the way. I have tried the garlic and plain and they are so good I did not even insult them with ketchup. As far as the dogs go they are good but lack some flavor and spices but they do have a good snap. I have tried the Salome which is a Chicago style dog and while it had all the condiments as that dog it lacked the visual appeal and the taste was also off, not enough garlic in the dog I think and the pickles and relish are also different and not as good. The Dixie is a chili dog and I did not care for the chili, seemed like a Cincinnati based chili that is to sweet for me. I will go back for the fries and there are other dogs I want to try that sound very good so I will be back if for no other reason than the fries. The theme is also very cool and it is the perfect size unless it is busy.

It would be hard to write something new about O'Betty's, but it's such a great place that I had to add my two cents. The hot dogs are the big attraction. With a variety of topping combinations, it has something for everyone. Of particular note are the Salome (their version of a Chicago dog which my son says is better than any he had there), the Dixie (chili cheese dog), and the garlic fries. The original location has great character with its burlesque motif, but either will serve you a good meal.

I have to ditto everything below me but I will add- the very first bite I took I thought: THIS PLACE WILL BE DANGEROUSLY ADDICTIVE. I have tried not to eat there every day of my stay here in Athens - but OMG - it's sooo enticing! Especially since it would be so fun to go thru each burlesque dog one by one....I had the Sophia - with saurkraut, jalapenos, a jalapeno bratwurst, mozzarella and a toasted whole grain bun....heaven in my hands. I have 3 more meals left in Athens....I'm sure one will be there....love this place - it's a must do while in Athens!

WOW! From New England, had 'Tempest' local salsa Casa Nueva habanero, jalapeño peppers, cheese....also vegan dogs & buns!! MUST try the fries, even better yet garlic fries with wasabi mayo dipping sauce! 2 locations & had breakfast on weekend at union street location great also. Will come back next time in Athens

Yeah, it's yet another rave review for O'betty's. It's such an easy formula, but they do it so well. The burlesque-themed menu and space (including their lilliputian hot dog museum) are really fun. The service is fast. And, last and most importantly, the food is exquisite. They use Five Star dogs from Cleveland with a natural casing. That's a better start than most hot dog joints (I'm looking at you, Happy Dog). Then they top them inventively, making liberal use of the bounty in and around Athens. The fresh-cut fries are twice dipped and splendid, particularly with fresh garlic. They have vegan stuff if for some reason eating random animal parts disturbs you. If you need beer with your dog, they offer BYOB, but I recommend taking it next door to Tony's where they'll welcome you and serve you a nice cold one. Note for people who reverse the O'betty's/bar order: The menu is limited and served from a window late at night, but it's still great.

Enjoyed the atmosphere, the presentation of it all. I think I would say they go a little easy on the toppings. If they have to increase the price, okay, but I think I would want my hot dog overflowing with toppings. Also, I wasn't told about condiments, so I think my hot dog was a little dry in a way. That said, I love that a place like this exists in Athens OH and that all of the ingredients were fresh and local.

I only ordered one dog and wish I had ordered two. After browsing the menu and wanting everything on it, I decided on Salome - "Dance of the 7 Veils." Basically, it was a Chicago dog: celery salt, relish, sport peppers, mustard, onions. What made this baby even more beautiful was the lightly toasted bun and superb quality frankfurter. Everyone knows Hot Doug's is the best hot dog shop in America, but O'betty's is a very close second. And it doesn't have the massive wait time. If you go, take plenty of cash. They don't accept credit cards.

(2)Meredith C.

Great little hotdog place with wonderful brats and sausage sammies Check out their museum. .
(4)Heather S.
I was very impressed with the hotdog itself but, they over top it and the bacon was burnt. I would definitely try them again but, would probably build my own dog instead of getting one of their signature dogs.
(4)Tim S.

(4)Katy S.
I don't even like hot dogs and I would eat at O'Bettys. I highly recommend their cheesy fries. They are to die for.
(5)Chrissy R.

(4)Riri A.

(5)B. L.

(5)Shannon G.
(5)Nikki O.
(5)Otis R.
Best hotdogs in Athens! Everything is house made and just taste the best. And they have a great atmosphere
(5)Yuppi C.
(5)Danielle A.
(5)Dawn Michelle W.
Love, Love, Love this place! All the hotdogs are named for pin-up models. They are all unique and all are fantastic!
(5)Nancy B.
Amazing and awesome and the best bacon, lettuce and tomato dog around. Get the Sally and fresh fries and you won't be disappointed!
(5)James H.
(5)Esther H.
(4)Patrick C.
(4)Jessi S.
Great hotdogs and chili cheese fries. However, worst service ever! It is a great late night spot, but you'll be waiting outside the window for a good half hour while you wait for your delicious dog.
(3)Alexandra C.
(5)Jason A.
If you like hot dogs and vintage pin-up culture, this place is for you. .
(5)Jessica H.
(5)Corey P.
(5)Joan B.
Soooo good! Loved the dogs and the chili cheese fries. I had a Lily - great taste. The dogs were perfectly cooked & snap when you bite them. Great decor too
(5)Sarah T.
I have eaten here both late at night and at normal dinner hours and it was delicious both times! Also, the inside is filled with cute, kitschy hot dog stuff. Their french fries are amazing and they have a vegetarian chili they put on the fries that is super good!
(4)Patrick C.
(5)Jonathan O.
I dare you to show me a tastier hot dog. This place has a 'hot dog' museum, as well. Love and miss ya, baby.
(5)Marshall L.
(5)Susan C.
This is such a local charm!!! The fries are out of this world!!! Yum!! Tried two dogs on the suggestion of the employees!!! Not disappointed!!!! Definitely want to come back!!! So good!!!
(5)Alex C.
(5)Ryan L.
(5)Robert S.
Absolutely delicious, best hot dogs in Ohio! Spicy Fries are delicious as well. Open til 3am or later, this was a great stop on the way home from Court St.
(5)Martin P.
(5)Mike B.
Great tasting! Excellent variety of yummy hot dogs & veggie chili dogs for my love!
(4)Modibo S.
(4)Laura N.
Awesome.
(5)Rachel L.
(5)Kat S.
(5)Jason F.
(5)Scott H.

The blaze might be the best hotdog of all time!
