I have been here 3 times. Each time has been better than the last. I admit that I am put off by the old fashioned decor. Crooked pictures, weird nautical vinyl tablecloths. It made me think of somewhere the seniors go for an early bird special. Besides that, lunch prices are reasonable, service has always been friendly. Today, though, was exceptional. Food was piping hot and fresh. Perch dinner was generous for a lunch price and twice baked mash with Monterey Jack cheese - omg. This is a gem here in Ashtabula County.

How anyone can give this place a bad review is beyond me. Yes.....I haven't been to the restaurant in a long time but come on the market on 5th is so AWESOME and those girls behind the counter are wonderful. I went down there this afternoon for shrimp and was turned on to a wonderful saving's deal. Hey.....I bet we can eat another pound of breaded shrimp! Thank's Patsy!!!!!!! Steve & I Love The Market!!

I had the broiled scallops that were delicious. My friends had the perch and they said theirs was wonderful. The waitress was very friendly. She recommended the twice baked potato and it was a good choice. If I lived in the area I would be a regular.

Awesome awesome food! I had the crab legs and what a big portion and absolutely delicious! It was our first time there and Karen was awesome! We will be back!

For a small town, the quality of the food isn't bad but isn't great. My mom got the surf and turf and I got the shrimp enchiladas. To start off they give you really basic dinner rolls that are kind of hard and cold. The salads are okay although I do like their dressing (raspberry balsamic). The steak was well cooked and the lobster was fresh. I wasn't a huge fan of the enchiladas since the layers of cheese masked any flavor of shrimp. Overall, you could definitely get your monies worth elsewhere but for Ashtabula, it's not bad if you want seafood

Horrible. First time I've ever written a bad review on Yelp. The food is okay but the customer service stinks!!! Just attempted to get "carry out" - curt, unfriendly hostess said that they won't do it! (My Dad said it was one of the owners - that makes it even worse!) Who has ever heard of a restaurant NOT doing carry out?! Even high-end places do it. Next time I'll skip Hil-mak and go to Red Lobster.

The restaurant reminds me of the former Captain Frank's in Cleveland. They have a fabulous fresh seafood selection daily. Our fried shrimp is cleaned and battered every single day. I am a coleslaw snob and their's is a 10 plus! The place is small but great for a family. The lunch and dinners prices are very reasonable and the quality of the food and service was a 10. Carry on folks! You serve seafood right!

As has been observed, this place is a throwback in decor, but in my experience, the food and service were both outstanding. Friendly and casual atmosphere with a wide selection of seafood and steaks. Reasonably priced. Just visited again last night...one year later. Nothing has changed. Another very good experience.

They've been at this for 40 years and it is fun to see that some things probably haven't changed much since they first started serving fish on Lake Erie. With no reservation on a Saturday night, we were lucky to get a table after one drink in the small lobby entrance. Our swordfish and Salmon were excellent. The salads were above average and our waitress was very sweet. The single large dining area was cramped, loud and very dated which cost them a star. You may not remember this as a great meal, but you won't be disappointed here either.
