Never been a gigantic fan of their brews but a recent trip to the brewery has changed my snobbery. Loved how you enter through the stainless steel vats, the brewing process and how the tasting room was setup in the warehouse with the brick walls the way a beer tasting room should be, not some glitzy wannabe wine bar. (I do enjoy those too). Would have given it 5 out of 5 if it was open a little later on a Saturday, but even that gave it a little flavor as though you stumbled upon something that you could only have for a little bit. Great place to have a beer. I'll be back.

The service is great except on Thursdays because it's growler discount night. Their 12 Dogs beer are better than Great Lakes Christmas ale for sure. Try the Cerberus Belgian Tripel.which is my favorite. Niña is a great bartender too. Fun place! Beware that there is only parking on one side of the alley since David Binnie is a ARSE!

Super cool place. The way you enter the pub is like you're in on a secret, walking through the brew works. Most of their beers on tap plus a beer engine that has a variation of of one of their beers and a cask beer. they also have a few high end whiskys. Just a cool place to have a beer.

Went on a Saturday so that we could hit the 3 PM brewery tour. Nice informative short tour. It's a pretty cool little microbrewery with a bar on the side. I would call it a tasting room but it could fit a lot more than a traditional tasting room can and had a decent amount of seating and tables. Tried their pumpkin beer and it was decent, but very light for a pumpkin. Boyfriend had the Barktoberfest and said it was very average, nothing special. The major problem was horrible horrible service at the bar. Bartender could have cared less that we were there. And the hops smell was very strong. Yes, you should expect to smell hops at a brewery but i've been to many a microbrewery and have never smelled it that strong. Doubt we'll be back.

Be sure to stop at the brewery to get a tour and enjoy the beers of this local Akron brewery. Staff is very friendly and willing to answer all your questions. We actually were given the tour by the Thirsty Dog owner, which was great to learn about all the history of the brewery and to hear his philosophies in brewing. $8 Growlers on Thursdays

Pretty cool little brewery with its own tasting room/bar. Award-winning beer, cheap growler refills on Thursday, tours at 3 pm every saturday. Try a tasting glass of each. Then order a pint of your favorite.

HOLY FREAKING AMAZING, IS THIS FOR REAL??? Ok, enough screaming but seriously, WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS SOONER? ARGH! Thirsty Dog has apparently had a tasting room open for over a year now. Over a year and less than 4 miles from my house AND I live for some good beer. Wow, I feel I got ripped off for not finding this sooner. The tasting room is right in all the action. Walk around and check some things out, all the old beer bottles, pictures, etc. Its a nice bar as well, nothing fancy but it does the trick. Anyways, it's the beer than matters. Tastings are $1 and pints $4. Bartender was wonderful, explaining beers, mixing beers and more. I wish I had found this sooner, it'll definitely be a stopping spot for us time and time again.

I stopped by on a Saturday but not in time for the 3pm tour. The tasting room, while not very big, did offer way more options than I expected. I don't think I even realized before this stop how many different beers Thirsty Dog had. For a couple bucks, you can try a sample or for a few bucks more get a pint. Pretty cool, but there were definitely some regulars who got preferential treatment. One definite plus: nice bathroom!

I'll start off by saying I love that the bar is in the middle of the brewery, I've been to a couple breweries that have their bar off to the side of the brewery but this is right dead center. Not a local, but I've had a couple of their beers and I liked what I had tried before. I was very excited to finally go see the actual brewery. Bad luck on my part since it was Thirsty Thursday which gets all beer nerds to show up to save 2$ on a growler. Now I'm a beer nerd myself, but upon arriving it took about 20 minutes just to find a spot to order since everyone was getting growler fills...including a group of 5 larger people who weren't drinking at all and taking up half the bar space for a good 30 minutes. Finally found a spot in the corner, which lead to a creepy old man looking over his shoulder at us over 20 times acting like we were cramping his space...while he sat there drinking a massive growler all alone. Ordered samples, none were labeled so I had no clue what I was drinking. Most the beers were good...but I've ordered over 60 samplers from breweries and this is the first time they didn't give me a list. Lastly, the bartender was good but over worked. I was planning on spending more money on six packs and merchandise, but she couldn't even help me due to 50 growler fills. Not sure who called in sick that night, but Thirsty needs some more bartenders on Thirsty Thursdays unless their goal is to chase away customers who want to spend money and please the customers who don't drink anything and just stare at non locals creepily.

I fell in love with Thirsty Dog about the same time I fell in love with my husband. He's from the Akron area and introduced us. I'm no beer connoisseur but every beer I have ever tried from Thirsty Dog is delicious. I finally made it to the tap room, after years of talking about it, for a tasting for our summer wedding in Stow, Ohio. Their keg selection is great and are reasonably priced for a microbrewery. We went with the Whippet Wheat. It was a perfect light crispy Hefeweizen, for what ended up being a warmish summer day. Each tasting we did cost a buck and you get a good 3-4oz pour. The guy working the tap room was friendly and knowledgable. I can't wait until their 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale is back. That is by far my favorite brew by them. Go check it out! CASH ONLY!! Even for keg purchases and tap rentals, plus a $100 deposit on each keg and $20 deposit for a tap rental.

Awesome space inside a brewery to taste their beers. The 7 beers we tried ranged from delicious to pretty good to very flavorful, but not my speed. Overall, impressed with the beers. I'm just deducting a star bc it's cash only and also bc there wasn't a menu or any description of the beers offered. The Cerasus sour ale is fantastic!

This was my first time at Thirsty Dog and I will not go back. The service was terrible and unwelcoming.

This is a really cool tasting room. No frills, no credit cards, so be sure to bring cash. Samples range from $1-3 and pints from 4-9 depending on the abv/style. Really nice beer and very knowledgable bartender. A must in Akron.

Cool local brewery/tasting room. Good selection of craft beers. Some negatives are that it is CASH ONLY and they don't serve food (although at times they have some food trucks outside).

I loved it! Great beers and great fun. Had the Bourbon Barrel wee heavy and it was wonderful. The atmosphere is....well the tasting room is carved out of the brewery and it looks it. Pluses are the beer (of course) and the knowledgeable staff. But be warned! It is CASH ONLY! .....and although the popcorn is free....there is NO food. This is a tasting room for the brewery....NOT a pub or restaurant

Absolutely worth the trip. Stopping into Thirsty Dog was an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I'd say that is the best time to go since you can pick up a free tour at 3, which is well worth it. There are a bunch more beers available on tap here than anywhere else. The staff is unsurprisingly knowledgeable, and it shows in ever delicious beer. It is obvious that they are passionate about their work, and who wouldn't be with a product like this. Sample a sour beer while you are there, they are outrageous. Pricing is beyond reasonable, but bring cash. My only hope is that their hours can be expanded.

Always have a ton of their beers on tap. Everyone at the brewery is awesome and will stop whatever they're doing to answer any and all questions you have.
(5)Mike T.
Nice space with a cellar feel, right in the midst of the brewery. Good service and good beer. Only reason I'm not here more is because of the location. Not the best beer in NE Ohio, but it is very good.

Not much of a beer drinker personally but took a tour of the place with some friends who are serious beer hounds (get it? Har har) who absolutely love the place and the tasting room. It was interesting to me to see the machinery needed to brew this stuff. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby!

What a great beer selection I really like hitting a brewery which offers a good selection of beers that are all quite good. Food trucks in parking lot good parking great service and incredible tasting beer. Highly recommend a visit if your in the area. Cash only so bring green....

Four stars because of the quality beer on tap and the always friendly bartender at the helm. The bar is nice enough, but don't expect luxurious surroundings - it's their brewing facility after all. They're not open late, so get there early and thirsty. For cell phone users, the bar area is a virtual Faraday cage. Thankfully they added free wifi. Tours on most Saturdays that are heavy on the information. If you're going on a hot and humid summer day, be warned that the area, including bar, will be uncomfortably hot. Luckily they sell beer. Growlers available for sale ($5) and refill. Thursdays are Thirsty Thursdays with discounts on refills. Nothing available to eat except periodic popcorn. Luckily they sell beer. Favored brews: Twisted Kilt (Scottish ale), Siberian Night (Russian Imperial stout), Pumpkin Ale and Old Leghumper (Porter). Fill your belly or growler, you'll be glad you did. Akron is lucky to have such a quality business in their downtown.

Thirsty dog brewery is a super cool place to grab a beer.... The bar area is literally in the middle of the brewery, inside a massive 100 year old warehouse building in downown akr. You walk thru the brewery operation to get to the bar. All of thirsty dogs brews are on tap at 4.00 per pint. If you dont know what to order, samples are 1.00 each. Right now 12 dogs of xmas is in, and imo is the best xmas ale around. Service is also great, the bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. Note it is cash- only.

I have always been a fan of Thirsty Dog beers and this is a fun place place to pop in for a couple of really nice craft beers. Not much for ambiance, you are actually drinking in the brewery and I really liked it! There's not a lot of space, so it's not for large groups but great fr a couple of low-key after work brews. No food, so don't go for beers and apps but they always have their standard selection with a couple of specialties peppered in for good measure. If you like beer you should give it a try.

This brewery is quite diverse for a small microbrewery. Located in the former location of the Burkhardt Brewery, Thirsty Dog has plans to increase production at their current site (source: a tour I got). Yes, they do give tours (as I just said). You have to contact them to receive one. They also have a tasting room, but their hours are quite odd. They're open Wednesday-Saturday, and close at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. However, this is a brewery and not a brew-pub, so you've been warned (translation: no food). Pints are $4, while samples are $1. Many of their beers are strong, so unless you think yellow license plates are a cool thing, you're better off getting a designated driver. Their seasonal beers are better than Great Lakes, although I think that Bell's makes better seasonals. Their other beers are varied, and what I like might not be what others would, so I won't review those. I personally enjoy Siberian Night and Cerberus Belgian Tripel. This is one of Akron's hidden gems.

Beer is good but I felt very uncomfortable everyone stared at me & the 1 waitress on "thirsty Thursday" seemed overwhelmed. Yes 1 bartender & she kept talking about how bad she wanted to go home. Needless to say since the entire place stared & me I felt awkward & couldn't wait to leave.
