Went to lunch at the EYE OPENER in West Akron today and had a HORRIBLE experience-no, the WORST restaurant experience! Waited 45 minutes for a grilled cheese sandwich, chips, and a pickle. Also had an unforgiving and inattentive server. When I said something to the manager upon checkout she actually YELLED at me and said they "weren't ready for a 10 person table". When I said "It wasn't even busy and I tried to tell the server and she wasn't polite either" she replied with "I don't know what you call busy but it WAS!" Then continued to give me a nasty attitude when she said, "I told you I would comp your meal but you just kept going on and on! I don't know what else you want me to do to make you happy!" I can assure you I was trying to quietly speak to her as to not cause a scene but she caused a scene all by herself. She comped my $6 sandwich but with no apologies from her (blonde hair) or the server (2 nose rings) just lots of attitude, yelling, and finger pointing (yes finger pointing). I really didn't even know what to say??? The grilled cheese wasn't even good either. Won't EVER return. I hope others don't either so to avoid this type of treatment from the wait staff and manager. It definitely was an EYE OPENING experience!

This down the road breakfast/brunch establishment is a new fave of mine...why did it take me so long to try this place?!?!?! Bloody Mary's, awesome and different breakfast specials (again not your typical eggs, bacon, toast - though that's available). The first time we went I had a lobster omelette topped with many different, amazing goodies with a side of breakfast potatoes (amazing too) and toast. This was for $9.99! I told my husband that Bob Evans or any other breakfast chain can stick it! The next time we went it was a week later for brunch. I ordered a custom omelette with crab and he ordered a chicken salad. Of course, each time I ordered a Bloody Mary...when in Rome, right?!?! (If you don't know my reviews you should...if there's alcohol I usually order). The service each time we've went was quick, helpful and while there is usually a wait, it usually goes quite quick. We have 2 little ones, and though we haven't taken them there yet its perfectly acceptable for them to join as there are many families that are dining there the few times we've been there. A staple in our breakfast routine for sure! And what's great, we can walk there...but if you do drive I suggest just parking in the rear of the building and using the back entrance...easier than trying to dodge a one-way parking lot.

I have eaten here many times. The menu is solid and highlighted by daily specials. They use real maple syrup. If it's crowded when you enter the wait usually doesn't take that long.

One of the best breakfast places in Akron. Belgian waffle is better than Wally Waffle. I got the red eye hash which was ok. I'm not really a potato type of person but it was filling. They have the best sweet potato fries and you have to get the Huckleberry Vodka lemonade. Super refreshing. Ask for Dontae. He was a great waiter!!!!

Great local gem. Atmosphere is laid back, you'll find an homage to Akron's history decorating the walls. Prices are fair, it's good quality for your money. I took off one star because they seem to have outgrown their space. I don't mind the 15-25 minute wait but it gets uncomfortable when you're packed like sardines with other waiting customers in a very small space. It doesn't bother me enough to avoid eating there, though.

Vegetarian Eggs Benedict with Homemade Hollandaise!!! Dynamic atmosphere. Great service. Our favorite breakfast place when we don't want to pay for the Blue Door.

A wonderful place to get delicious breakfast food any time of the day. Great service, good food, local owners. In the mornings on weekends you may be waiting 20 minutes, it's a pretty popular hang out. Prices are more than reasonable and where else can you get a mimosa and a bloody Mary with your eggs Benedict? Great place and I'll definitely be back!

Had Red Eye Hash would have been amazing if there had been more meat. I could count the tiny pieces of cut up corned beef that was delicious. I was more than disappointed that the potatoes were overwhelming the dish. My husband said his pancakes were the worst. Coffee was great atmosphere nice servers and manager nice. May be a while before we go again. But glad we tried it!

I've been to The Eye Opener a number of times and have always been satisfied. Overall, the food is above average, and the only reason I don't give them a 5 star is because nothing has really wowed me. I got the Thin Lizzy with crab meat just yesterday and it was pretty good. I will continue to go The Eye Opener, and continue my search for that "slap me in the face" entree.

The breakfast here was always very good! I went here about once/weekly and the food was always consistently good. Probably my favorite place to eat in Akron, Ohio.

I never give a review after just one visit, so I held off even though my first experience was terrible. Food was just OK, but the service was non-existent. Last Sunday went there about 10:00am. Waited about 10 minutes to be seated. Actually, was offered a seat at a high top after 5 but decided to wait for a table. After we were seated a server came and took our drink order. We got it right away. That was the last time we saw our server. 20 minutes later, we decided to move on. When we walked to the register to pay for our drinks, we were met by someone that was probably an owner. She offered to comp our drinks and apologized. The problem is, why didn't we see her anytime during the first 30 minutes. If she only stays in the back, she has no idea what goes on out front. I notice this is a consistent complaint on Yelp. Take heed. If it's crowded, find somewhere else to go.

Very tasty fresh coffee. Great Breakfast this Monday morning, Texas size French toast! Yum! Very attentive staff!

  • Keith B.

Quaint lil spot food is not bad but not to die for either. Other than the great service and posh atmosphere the French toast was the best. Also tried the build your own omelette and the potato rounds. Mhm Not trying to be negative at all as it was a little better than ok. But the impeccable service made it worth while. You can have breakfast anywhere but great service is HARD to find!!!

The place is a staple around Akron. Everyone knows about it. Food is good, but how hard can making breakfast be. I've been in this industry for sometime now and they do a fine job as far as service and presentation. There could be a couple health violation such as hair nets but that's not much of an issue. The Eye Opener is in need of revitalization. The chairs, coffee mugs and menus all need updated. Get with the times people. Your stuff is breaking down. Other than that, I'm pleased. Great business.

I came here for a breakfast on 26th December and I think the kitchen staff must have had a Christmas hangover because they were terrible. After a short ten minute wait to be seated, it took over 35 minutes for our food to come after ordering it. It was only two of us, and our food order was pancakes, eggs and a side of hash. The blueberry pancakes I ordered came out with cold, loose blueberry layered between two plain pancakes and the hash was the worst hash I have ever had. It was large chunks corn-beef and even larger chunks of barely cooked potatoes. The fact that it took so long to make short order breakfast food and it left a lot to be desired, made this a disappointing culinary experience for someone who has relatively low expectations when it comes to breakfast. Overall, We came for a simple quick breakfast that took nearly an hour before we even saw any food, and left unsatisfied. I will not be coming back anytime soon.

Found myself here with the husband and friends for Sunday brunch for the first time (which is slightly embarrassing because it's so close to my house). In addition to the smaller front parking there is a back more spacious lot with another entrance. The place was packed, which I heard was pretty normal, so be prepared for a little wait. The food was good (great French toast says my husband) and I got the customizable croissant sandwich and potato browns. I did not experience slow service at all as some other reviews indicated. Overall a pretty good little spot. Would definitely return.

  • Janelle S.

Food was ok. And on multiple occasions we pointed out that it looked like the waitress seriously hated her job. The food took almost an hour to come out, and as a server, I tried not to complain, because the server can't control the kitchen speed. But it would have been nice to hear that our waitress knew we were waiting. Food was ok, but nothing to write home about. All in all a mediocre meal.

This is such a cute place not too far from the cool Highland Square area. The decor is bright & vibrant with nostalgic photos of Akron. Our service was great and the menu had lots to offer. The prices are fair plus you can get a bloody mary with breakfast! I had the corn beef hash, which I have never ordered, or had, anywhere so I didn't have much to compare it to. It was pretty good- not much corn beef and some of it was chewy, but the overall taste was good with the pepperjack cheese & hot sauce. Loved the flavors! Too much for me to eat and a great value. I would recommend this to anyone!

  • Patti W.

Loved the Scottish salmon crepes this morning. Not my usual breakfast habit but a great change of pace. The portions were a little big for my appetite so I have the rest to enjoy later with some wine. My husband enjoyed his 3 crepes served with cream cheese, capers, olives, egg and onion. Delightful!

  • Tessa R.

This place is kind of disappointing. Their foods are just okay, the service are slow and borderline much to be expected. Will not return again.... I really want to like them, since they are closer to me than other places...

Horrible service & I had a hair in my food . Our waitress came to the table twice, the guy who was seating people practicality waited on us since he was the only one to notice we weren't receiving any service. Food was just ok, over priced for the quality & $6 for a bloody mary is ridiculous. I will not be returning.

It's hard to imagine a "Unique" breakfast place, but this place has it. Maybe it's because it is opposite the famous West Point Market, but the owners of Arnie's bar have branched-out (just a few doors down) and created an interesting menu. I had french toast, and a side of potatoes with a fried egg over them. Both of them had great names, but for the life of me, I cannot remember what they are called. Service was attentive and the place has lots of Akron memorabilia on the walls.

  • Lindsey D.

This place has a pretty good atmosphere, but the service is SERIOUSLY lacking. Not only is it hard to get seated, it's hard to get a response from the hostess most days. If it weren't for the good food and option for a great bloody mary, I'm sure they would not be so busy. Parking is usually a bit difficult; I would suggest parking in the back. However, if you want their food with a bit better service, but a slightly less appealing atmosphere, go two doors down to Arnie's yelp.com/biz/arnies-sro-… This bar is owned by the same couple, has great service AND you can order Eye Opener food! (same crappy parking situation though)

I just moved back to the Akron area after three years in Washington, D.C., where I fancied myself quite the brunch connoisseur. I met with a friend for brunch on a Tuesday, & she suggested The Eye Opener, where I'd never been. I was so pleased with it! It reminded me of D.C., where quaint places like this abound & Bob Evans is non-existent. I got three sides - French toast, a fruit salad, & potatoes - & they were all delicious. And inexpensive! The whole meal was only $8.25! The potatoes were just like I like them - crispy but not greasy - & the French toast had a hint of vanilla. The one downside was the service, which was a bit slow (particularly when it came to the check), but our server was friendly & was, for the most part, attentive to refilling our coffee & water. I'm so glad I discovered The Eye Opener. I'll be back!

Okay, so I'm just now leaving Akron for greener pastures-- and I'm so disappointed that this place wasn't around while I was suffering through Akron's restaurants! Don't be fooled by the strip-mall locale. This place is great. The menu had a lot of unique items for a diner, but also all the usual classics. I forget the cute name of the omelet I ordered, but it was delicious: packed with veggies and crab. All of their jams and jellies are from a local farm, so you won't get bored by the usual caddy of Smucker's. The staff was friendly and efficient, and the decor was more hip than I'd expect to see in (a) Akron or (b) a diner. If I were staying, I'd want to be a regular here.

  • Dave C.

I have to agree with many of the recent reviews. I really want to like this place - there are so few real diners in the area. The location is nice and the menu is exactly what you're looking for in a local diner. You can even get a Bloody Mary with your breakfast! Unfortunately, it goes downhill from there. The food is just so-so. The "potato rounds" are just sliced baby redskins and too many times they are more skin than potato. The service is what's gone downhill for me. Lot of other reviewers have mentioned how good it is, that just hasn't been my experience. Not that it's bad, just "off". The other day I walked in and the busboy (I've seen him before), was seating. Do I go there - yes, from time to time. It's not awful. But if I'm forced to rate it, it's below average for me.

I'm rarely awake in time to eat brunch, but luckily this morning I was hung over and ready to eat with friends. I had a breakfast sandwich. The ingredients were fresh, and the sandwich was good. I opted for sweet potato fries instead of the potato browns, because I saw them on another person's plate and they looked pretty scary. I saw a lot of complaints about service on here, and am happy to report that our waitress was friendly, and kept the refills and the bloody marys coming. I gave three stars simply because my food was good, but nothing remarkable. I wouldn't make a special trip to The Eye Opener, but if invited, sure, i'd go eat there.

Visited this week and place really hasn't improved much from my last stay which I also rated a 3 star. But hey, at least it didn't get worse. Service is still awful even when slow. We had to stare down our waitress for a good 10 minutes even before being acknowledged. Saving grace is the food- it's always been delicious.

I began coming here when the restaurant opened. The food was always good and it still is; however, as time went on the service went downhill. I stopped coming here for the last year I lived in the area and went to Freds instead for breakfast. Two years ago I moved to Chicago but I've recently found myself back in the area on a weekly basis. I have given the eye opener two more chances to redeem itself, both times it failed. The first time I came in for 2 hours to do some work and grab an omelette. I never got a refill on my coffee and the waitress took my plate away while I was still eating. The second time I didn't have any issues with the food but found it impossible to get a coffee refill. Come on! You're a breakfast joint! You charge 2 bucks for coffee. Give me a damn refill already. Looks like I'll be going back to Fred's.

I go here often because I live close. Best breakfast option in West Akron. I normally order the wake up call (it's huge, you can totally split it) really good. They serve alcohol which is awesome, I recommend the cajun bloody. If you go during a rush just have patience, service can be slow. Also might have to park around side or back.

This is one of the better breakfast places in Akron. The food is good, and their Bloody Mary's are excellent- esp. the curry one. The service is friendly even though the wait time for the food can sometimes be on the long side.

I go here for brunch - primarily spicy hash browns! Nice and cheap brunch location. They will be happy to modify your order for you. Packed on weekends. Recommended :) PS you can get crepes here.

We were seated in the corner and I almost thought we were forgotten about for a moment, but the place was packed and once our server got to us, she was attentive and the service was good. Our food was great and hit the spot on a cold rainy morning. I hope to go back on another occasion when it's not so busy. Be sure to ask for the special complimentary jam!!!

I heard some decent reviews of The Eye Opener so I decided to stop in for breakfast. Although I had read some reviews about poor service, I can't attest to them because we went on a Sunday, arrived at 1pm and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. Our server was attentive, made sure our glasses were always filled and recommended some decent items on the menu. I ended up getting The Eye Opener with potato browns and toast, which was delicious. The portion sizes are fairly large and the prices are definitely cheap; I think the most expensive meal on the menu is $7. If you want a mimosa, coffee and Baileys or a bloody mary, they are kind of expensive ($6.50/ea). Overall, I was impressed with the food and prices and will be going back sometime in the near future.

Fantastic food, atmosphere, and service. Little busy on a Sunday morning, but they get you seated quickly. The food has the home cooked, country taste. Going to make this a regular spot!

I suck with names, so be patient with me. If you get the thin fellow with dark hair (and usually the biggest grin), you'll get amazing service. If you get anyone else....I pity you. I eat here a fair amount, just because their omelets are kick-ass. Where else can I get an omelet with spinach, mushrooms, chorizo, and crabmeat (that's not my own kitchen)? The burgers are also pretty darn delicious. And they have sweet potato fries. Epic. Win. (Yes, I love and adore sweet potato fries...don't judge) Parking can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but there's parking around back too (as well as a back entrance), so it's not a big deal. Don't expect primo parking (unless you're like me and seem to always luck out with princess parking). I believe they're owned by the same folks who own Arnie's SRO, but don't quote me on that. If they are, I wonder if you can get food from there, then snag some booze from Arnie's SRO, and hang out on their patio seating..... This sounds like an awesome idea.

We get our grub on here nearly every Sunday morning. The food is great and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. Give the "wake up call" omelet a try if you want a hearty and spicy breakfast!

Finally a great neighborhood place! Love the ambiance. Good food and the coffee is fab. The best part? It's not a corporate chain! Definitely love supporting small local businesses. We'll absolutely be back!

Oy. I desperately want to love this place. It's super close to my house, the coffee is good, and it does serve up good breakfast and veggie burgers. For those reasons, I always forget about my sub-par experiences here and, whenever someone suggests breakfasty food, I suggest this place. The food is probably the only really good thing about this place. Parking is awkward -- just skip the cluster%&^ out front and park in the back. The restaraunt itself is just...weird. I don't know quite how to describe it - it feels very unwelcoming and packed together. Breakfast restaraunts are supposed to be sunny and bright, and it is SO dark in here. Dislike. Onward to the things people actually care about: the food, as I've mentioned before, is good. Nothing amazing that you'll dream about and crave, but decent; and priced accordingly. The service, however, is absolutely horrible. Like, we waited 10 minutes to order and almost 45 minutes for our food. If you're coming here on a weekend morning for a "quick bite to eat", be prepared for it to become a very, very slow bite. Turtle slow. No one was very personable. Usually I don't care, but it was definitely noticeable enough here to keep me from coming back for some time. Meh.

I had passed this place a few times and finally decided to drop in for brunch with my boyfriend. Let me preface this by saying, you don't just "drop in" at this place. We got there around 11:30, so they weren't quite as busy as I'm sure they would have been even an hour earlier. However, my boyfriend still probably played about 20 games of Fruit Ninja before we were seated (and he's pretty good...just sayin'). So, the service was sub-par, but the food was delicious! I got the corned beef hash with poached eggs and it was superb. I love that they added green chiles! I thought that was a really interesting twist.

I was very pleased with my recent brunch at The Eye Opener. I tried both the Red Eye Hash, which I thought was an awesome twist on a breakfast classic, and The Dutch, a grilled panini with dill havarti and pear slices. I almost never choose to eat veggie friendly food, as I think meat is an important part of a full meal, however, once in a while a place offers a menu item that sounds so delicious that I can forgo the meat and be quite pleased. This was very much the case. I noticed the comments below talk about the service being shoddy or spotty or other adverbs, but I felt as though I was attended to in a timely manner, our coffee refreshed twice without flagging our waitress, and our food cooked and on the table soon after ordering. I was given the service I ought to have gotten, especially with the price I paid, as breakfast for 2 was under $20 and the food was of very good quality. The menu options are inventive and various, they offer a wide variety of bloody mary's even at breakfast (which I respect. Some places seem to frown on the early nip), and the atmosphere is very pleasant, which overall puts this place up in the top of my breakfast places. I will recommend, and I will return.

I would love, and I do mean LOVE to love this place. It is stylish, clean, well-situated, all those things most bre'fuss places miss. Some great old Rubber City pictures and memorabilia hanging on the walls mark this as unique, and home-grown, and not a chain. They do miss the mark on quite a few other things, though. Spotty service. Some food great, some not so great, some hot stuff served cold, and on, and on. I do think they are really trying, though, so we'll be back in the next month or so to give it another whirl. (The tough decision is always: do we drive past a couple "sure things" to try The Eye Opener, again? You guys are about THIS close to getting it right. I wonder if it isn't another case of, "Okay, we're better than the guy around the corner, that's good enough." Nope. It ain't. Train those table-hoppers. Get the orders and the cooks and the waiters on the same page. Until then, the Three Star A-OK is appropriate. I do wonder if those four- and five-star reviews were "neighborhood biased," that is, locals really wanting the place to make it. We'll see.)

i met some friends for brunch last sunday at the eye opener and was pleasantly surprised. very tasty! i loved the assortment of bloody marys (an extra horseradishy one? yes please!) and the food was quite good. i had an omelet with fried potatoes and sour dough toast. they also had some great local, homemade jam to choose from. i don't eat out for breakfast very often but the next time i'm thinking about it i'll probably hit the eye opener!

A hidden local gem located in a small plaza. I dig the ambiance and decor. Love the use of jam/jelly from local farm and its creative menu. I had "Wake Up Call" omelette which was great and the potatoes were not greasy but could have been better. The food was pretty cheap too! What more can you ask for? For Akron area, this is probably the most friendly breakfast/brunch place around.

  • Amelia D.

I've eaten here three times now. The food is pretty good. Omlettes are cooked pretty well, although the cheese is never really melted enough. The potato browns are really good and so are their pancake. Downside, the service is AWFUL. You pretty much have to chase your waitress down for a refill on your drink, and even then, they usually just take your cup back for a refill even if everyone else at your table needs one as well. Place is fairly clean, although the carpet looks filthy. I'd come back if the service improved.

  • Sue S.

This is place is just ok. We tried it for the second time this morning. On the positive side, we've been lucky enough to get a seat instantly on both visits. But the food is really a mixed bag. My eggs benedict was pretty good although the potatoes were not hot. My husband's omelette wasn't great and he didn't enjoy the corned beef hash last time. My omelette last time was pretty good. The service is lacking and I really need to share what I witnessed at another table. The server approached a table with two plates of food. For some reason which I didn't see, the one breakfast hit the ground. She actually tried to serve the other breakfast. And she didn't even apologize for dropping the breakfast. The diner was stunned and just looked at the server. The diner flagged down another server and asked for her breakfast to be kept warm while she awaited her husband's breakfast to be remade. She really shouldn't have had to ask for that. It should have been a given! Bad service. I may return and I may not. Who knows.

This is a nice little breakfast/ brunch spot around Highland Square. I stopped by with my son after a long overnight train ride and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, the decor is quirky (love the fridge outside the kitchen), and the service was pleasant. I was weary of stopping by because of some of the reviews I read, however in the end, I am happy I did. Note: I came right when it opened on a Tuesday, so it was not very busy at the time. By looks of it, the negative service reviews might be because they are probably understaffed on the weekends.

  • Lauren H.

I want to love this place. I mean, I want this to be the place I take all of my out-of-town friends to eat for breakfast, but the service here is awful. It's such a shame. The hostess has the skills of a wet noodle and does nothing to make you feel welcome. The waitstaff is slow (even when it's not busy), they rarely check back with you after you've gotten your meal, and the cooks usually have no idea what's going on. I took my dad here a while ago and we literally waited 10 minutes to order then 45 minutes for our food and none of the staff seemed to care. The owner (I presume) who stands at the register made no attempt to ask about our meal and the waitress made no offer to lessen the price. I get the feeling every time I go in here that, once you walk in the door, you're playing by their rules. While the food is decent, I will no longer go here based on the lame service. If I'm going to eat out, I want to pay the people who are interested in making me feel good about my choice in restaurants, not regret it 15 minutes in. I'm not saying they have to get all Bob Evans up in here, just acknowledging the customer's presence at the door is a start. PS. 4 out of the 5 times I've been here, the radio is playing but is full of STATIC. It's a horrible sound and one I find impossible to ignore...ugh, invest in a decent stereo system, or better yet, just turn it off.

So, I'm a fan of this place, but not for the food - which causes my system stress every time I go there - it's the atmosphere. Some mornings you need a bloody mary and a PB&J waffle, and this is a cool spot for that. The staff is friendly, too, and they keep the coffee coming. The food is better-than-average diner food, but I'm not a diner food guy. They have some interesting omelette choices and a daily crepe (at least on the weekends). We'll continue to be regulars.

I'm really about how my eggs are cook, they cook them perfectly. The first time i went there the service need some improvement. everytime since has been great. I most recently ordered a burger, i like it cook med. rare, which is hard to find. the burger was really close to the way i like it.

Went there twice and each experience was the same. Food is pretty good (breakfast). Service was terrible. Server never came to the table to check and see how things were. Took over 30 minutes to get a simple order. When the food arrived, it wasn't even hot. The staff there does not seem to have any concern for customer satisfaction.

This place has average food with lackluster service. Althou gh I carried a small child in the server never offered a high chair. I specifically had to ask 20 min in to service for seating for the child. Food Was slow being prepared and then we were informed that part of my husbands meal could not be prepared because they ran out. When the food was delivered it left a lot to be desired. The Canadian bacon was shriveled, thin, and mangled. The pancakes were good and the turkey burger I had was delicious. The fruits cost and additional 1.00 to substitute instead of their house potatoes. The pricing is decent. And the decor is different. I wasnt a fan of how close you are seated to other patrons because it does get pretty busy on a Saturday morning. All in all I wouldn't make any extra effort to eat here but I may stop in if I was in the neighborhood and it wasnt a Saturday and I was coming without my children.

The Eye Opener is a diner owned by the same people who own Arnie's --http://www.yelp.com/biz/arnies-sro-akron -- which is a pretty mediocre bar about 2 doors down in the same strip. I totally admire their logic. Hit up Arnie's on a Saturday night and get completely hammered, stagger to your car 'round closing time and pass out in your back seat. Wake up to a full bladder, a face caked with dried-up drool, and a serious hankerin' for some greasy-ass breakfast fare. Walk 40 feet from your car to the Eye Opener and begin to recover the brain cells you lost last night. The place is always hoppin' on the weekend, so your drunk ass may have to wait a few minutes, but in your state it's probably for the better. Besides, you can use this time to admire the relaxed, hip interior or even ruminate on just what a wreck your life has become. If you're feeling bold, you can try and hit on one of the many attractive Highland Square girls that flock there, but remember, you probably look like a bar rag and they're probably with their boyfriends. Once you get seated, the coffee flows freely and a tasty selection of omelettes, eggs, toast, hash, pancakes, burgers, corned beef, and all that good stuff is available to help you soak up the dregs of last night's blues. And if you feel like continuing where you left off, you're in luck: they do serve alcohol. Hell. Yes.

I went to this place a couple of times because the food was good until I learned that you you had to get in line the night before in order to get seated for breakfast. The last time I was there we just walked out because the service is so slow.... No thanks... There are too many places to go to for breakfast to wait that long. I can't believe the are still open

Out of this world breakfast, great unique food, good portions. Homemade potato chips were fantastic, as are the grilled cheeses!

Slow service on a Sunday?? Really? Waited for our order for about 45 minutes and we weren't the only ones. Everyone around us was waiting. That day's special: mediocre - pancakes with bacon (cooked in the batter) with scrambled eggs on the side. The pancakes had no whatsoever texture and a flat flavor. Eggs were not warm at all. Bacon was the only thing I liked on the plate - actually it pretty damn good, chewy and crispy. Waffle with chocolate chips, just ok - nothing extraordinary or unique. Good selection of teas, polite staff

Used to love to go here to support local businesses but the service sucks. The normal hostess has no personality and the wait for food is atrocious. Last time I waited 35 minutes for my order to be taken when the place was almost empty. Oh and the cheese wasn't melted just thrown on. Piss poor service.

t's hard to believe I've been driving past a great breakfast place daily, clueless to its very existence, but that's the story with the Eye Opener in Westgate Plaza across from West Point Market. Breakfast served all day, although there are plenty of other items on the menu. It's owned by the Arnie's Standing Room Only people so this belongs to true Akron investors and believers. Nifty old photos of the city are on the walls. The food was fresh - breakfast potatoes made from scratch, orange juice was not from concentrate, flavorful bacon, nice selection of teas (always important to me and so often an afterthought for restaurants), nice bread and jam from a local purveyor. Prices are extremely reasonable, and service was attentive. Not open in the evenings, but there is a selection of beer available as well, including some craft beers! Yippee!

Great food! I'm a huge breakfast lover and I really enjoyed the food. Very busy place on the weekends! Prices were also great! Server wasn't the greatest though. You could easily tell that she didn't want to be there. We never seen a smile on her face or any sign of expression. We will definitely be back though!

The location is great as it is right around the corner in our neighborhood. We went on a busy Sunday morning with the church crowds so it was jumping. Our server was good for being that busy and offered to take our order before some of the bigger parties got theirs in. All in all, decent food and prices. The place is a bit loud with as a previous reviewer said, static and not music. We loved the historical Akron photo prints on the walls. The food will keep us coming back but tweak the atmosphere and you'll have a keeper.

No wait to get a booth. Variety of great breakfast choices. Grilled havarti cheese panini with pears did not have dill sauce available today. Had to ask for Ranch. Too bad.

My party of 6 just left breakfast at the Eye Opener. We were quoted a 10 minute wait, and were seated 45 minutes later. Each of us ordered an omelet, then we proceeded to wait 45 more minutes to get our food in a pretty empty dining room. Once our food arrived, one omelet was burned badly and we found 3 hairs on 6 plates of food. When we received our bill, we were aghast at how expensive it was. We spent $20/person for hairy, burned, and exceptionally slow omelets. Obviously, we will not be returning. This was one of the poorest dining experiences I've ever had.

Arrived about 1030 and waited 30 minutes. Food wasn't bad, just waited for table and waited longer than others who came after us for food.

This is probably my favorite breakfast place!!! So so so good, and great Bloody Mary's! Same owners as Arnie's, always present, walking around helping and saying hello!

Food was wonderful, prices were not. Our waitress, Liz, filled our drinks and brought us our food and we never saw her again. 8-10 empty tables in the place and she was too busy chit chatting with other staff members to bring us a refill or a check. We waited for 15 minutes after we were done eating and at that point I had to go ask for my check. Horrible service. We won't be back.

This is the only way I "Open My Eyes" on the weekends! We've been exploring the breakfast joints locally, and I have to say I've found some solids. However this is the one I constantly return to, to the frequency of weekly in most cases. Now not only do they boast a perfect AM drink menu, after all the name is the "Eye (O) Opener" and they do well in that area. From a wide range of bloody marry's, mimosas, and other cocktails; this is a great local spot to pick up your first meal, and Drink ... hehee... of the day. Menu wise, I have to admit I've not gotten to deep, mainly because I am beyond happy with what I've tried and it is really hard to move me past some of the "classics", 1. Eggs Benedict - A simple breakfast dish which is often murdered and butchered by most places. Eye Opener has a pretty damn good one. 2. Croissant Sandwich - It's big, full of egg, and likely to put your to sleep! It is also simple. Sometimes simple is best. Specials: 1. When Avl, you must try the "Chicken and Waffles" - They don't mess around here, chicken is seasoned very strongly (nice blend of salt and pepper) with real maple syrup drizzled over a A Belgium waffler stuffed with bacon bits... i mean, it is dayum good. Sadly I've only encountered this once... 2. Crab Benedict - It amazes me how people can jack this one up, but like a normal Benedict, it is often jacked and introducing crab in to the picture typically puts the nail in that coffin. However here, surprisingly, the crab proportion was perfect. The crab isn't too fishy, which is a common theme with Crab Bene... and to boot they throw in a nice side salad with grapefruit, onions, olives, and more.. trust me, get it if this pops up again! So there you have it, it a nut shell this is a great spot to grab a breakfast! I've yet to try anything else here but my thoughts are I doubt I will be too disappointed. A Note Of Caution: On weekends, this place will get packed and I'm talking to the point of waiting 30+ mins. My advice to all, arrive before 10AM. It seems 10AM is the queuing nightmare for this place.
