Get ready for a good old fashioned grease fest! The "go to" dish here is Food Network featured Barberton Chicken. It is modestly if at all seasoned, cut unusually creating a 9th piece... the back, breaded and deep fried. Served with french fries, hot sauce (Hungary's version of Spanish rice), and sweet and sour style cole slaw. The chicken's always good and moist, but requires a shake or two of salt, as do the fries, that my wife finds among the better she has had, the hot sauce is good, but the heat factor is a true roulette wheel hot, not hot, in between there is just no consistency due to the lack of same in the hot peppers they use. When it has a bit of zip to it, it becomes a wonderful agent into which one can dip bites of chicken and the odd fry or two. When it isn't hot, it isn't worth the calories to consume it unless you carry your own hot sauce or get take out so you can "shake it up" at home. These folks are in the Entertainment Book, and the good news is that while it is printed for specific dinner types, one can apply the value of those dinners to one that one finds more palatable, just ask.

Joke. Seriously the worst service imaginable. Waitress was in the room not being used talking on her phone. Only came to the table a couple times. Other waitresses were talking rudely about the other customers. My potatoes came out cold. Weren't even warm. Waitress gave me attitude about anything I asked for. Chicken was rubber like. Never in my life have I seen chicken with this texture. Forgot my dipping sauce. This place is nothing short of a joke. Please avoid this place.

I have to give all of the chicken houses in Barberton 5 stars because their food is amazing! You can't go wrong with Hopocan Gardens' fried chicken, French fries, hot sauce and cole slaw! You won't be disappointed!

If you like fried chicken then you must try "Barberton Fried Chicken"! And Hopocon Gardens is one of the famous "Barberton Chicken Houses". They are Hopocon Gardens, Whitehouse Chicken, Milich's Village Inn, and Belgrade Gardens. If you like rib sticking chicken and "greasy" but excellent french fries then this is you place. Not a place for people trying to lower their cholesterol, but the food is fantastic. And did I mention the hot sauce? Hopocon has hot hot sauce that will warm you up on a cold winter night. And very affordable, even for a large family.

first of all... let me state that our family loves Barberton chicken. Last few trips we ended up at Belgrades so this trip we ventured over to "hoppys" Our last visit there was a couple years ago and everything went as expected... this trip.. not so much. when you enter the restaurant there is a picture hanging over the hostess stand... smashed between the photo and the glass is a large dead spider. my stepdaughter pointed out the spider to the hostess and she replied that it's been there longer than she has... and she's been there almost 2 years. beyond that the atmosphere is a bit beat up and wore out. but that's all overlooked if the food is on par. while waiting for service we noticed more dead insects on window ledges... obviously the cleaning is being overlooked.. now onto the food. one member of our party ordered a thigh dinner and it was clear that the cook had pulled out a thigh and cut it to see if it was done.. it was then dropped back in the fryer.. obviously this piece was severely overcooked inside. the fries were fresh, hot and perfectly cooked. the hot rice was good ...may not quite hot enough for me but fine for most. Cole slaw was as expected. our table also ordered two orders of dumplings... these were very disappointing. they were very doughy and bland. had no taste and appeared to be served in red water. these were a huge letdown. dumplings at Belgrade are far above these. for the rest of the diners the chicken was just barely warm while the fries were very hot and fresh. one note to mention.. if you like the hot rice you better ration your beverage as you are only afforded 1 refill of soda or tea before you she'll out another 1.89. our waitress was spot on and very friendly and courteous. all in all we wished we had stuck with a competitor as this trip didn't fair near as well as previous trips..

I grew up with "Barberton Chicken" as a treat. Going back to one of the remaining places that serve it was a bit of a let down. The chicken was very good as we're the sides. The service was terrible. Our waitress spent most of the time talking to customers about the Chrysler she is trying to sell instead of taking and then checking on our orders. The orders were wrong for 3 out of the 5 of us and had go back to be corrected. Hopocan's had the flavor of the food right, but the delivery of the service and the worn out and dinged up atmosphere and shoddy service offset it.

I have been going here since I was a baby. This is Yugoslavian inspired Chicken dinners. This is one of the best chicken houses in America! The homemade chicken, fries, rice hot sauce, and coleslaw are so good. They do have other dishes available on the menu such as Chicken paprikash, ham, and some traditional menu items. They also serve beer. If you have not experienced this wonderful tradition of chicken houses in Barberton, Ohio you need to make sure this is on your to do list.

The portions are huge and the quality of food is great. Anytime I've had had an issue carryout or other they have always made it right. I will continue to give them my business for years to come.

Making our way through barberton chicken.. can't believe waited this long for Hopocan Gardens place is packed .. the portions are huge you get white or mixed or dark chicken and pick 3 sides the chicken is so moist and the coating is so crisp. Homemade fries and of course delish coleslaw. The bread was the only disappointment 4 slices of store bread. But the overall meal was excellent enough food for 2nd meal the next day.
