Cool little bar. Great beer selection. The food was okay - nothing to write home about, but not much to complain about wither. Had the pork nachos, which were good, but were the same as I might put together at home. Nothing homemade or special about them. The bartender was new, a bit clueless, and a lot tackless. He made some comments about the servers that he thought were funny, but were not in good taste. Really cool location and good vibe.m

Boom. Deliciousness!! Bar food, but classy! We got tired of a bunch of the bar food places in downtown Akron and decided to try Baxter's and it was really good. Good beer on draft, my girl had a delicious martini and the flatbreads are amazing!! Really impressed with this place, nice patio / open seating and really casually enjoyable environment!!

Can't wait to go back. Great beer, street side outdoor seating, generous portions of great menu options

Every time I come here I fall in love all over again! They changed their menu but omg it's just as amazing as the old one. Their flatbread pizzas are amazing. We tried the sweet Hawaiian and bruschetta de Napoli and they were so good we got the bbq chicken which was amazing too. Add that to their large on tap selection as well as huge bottle list and this place is definitely a little Akron gem! Would definitely recommend this place to anybody! I love this place!

The only thing saving this place is the flat breads. I came here with two friends on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch around 3:00. We picked a booth near the door and had no greeting or acknowledgment. After sitting there for around 6 minutes my friend got up and got our menus and silverware. There was only one bartender working and maybe 5 patrons at the bar. The bartender finally noticed our hungry gazes and came to take out beer & food order. The food came out fantastic but we waited about 5 minutes to get our beers. The bartender just didn't seem concerned of out long wait times. She didn't seem to be rushed at all for us to be waiting around so much.
(1)Asa G.
No one waited on us... I had to get two different people to at least get our table drinks. After we order food. The food did not come over an hour. They told me somebody didn't show up... Really not my problem. Somebody could still wait the table but nobody did!

I came in to get out of the heat on the 4th and was surprised at how nice it was. Roomy booths, great beer choices. We didn't eat, but the food looked good. And our server was quick and on point. All in all, it was solid.

Very cool bar with a great atmosphere! It's especially nice in the summer when they can roll up the front doors. A fantastic beer selection, both bottles and draft. They have live music on some nights. Food is also decent, but they don't have a full kitchen.
(4)Marco A.
The Food Is not that great , taco Tuesday sucks , poor service and what's wrong with the music selection ? Backstreet boys ? Nsync? And other boy bands ? Felt like I was hanging out at my 5 year old niece party !! GET IT TOGETHER GUYS !
(1)Michael G.
I like this place. Friendly staff and atmosphere. Good food for a bar/pub. Good selection of drink. It's clean. Sometimes they have live music, which has been pretty decent. The front opens up like a garage in the warmer months to allow for a nice fresh air seating area. No complaints at all.

The ambiance is nice in the building. Everything is nice to look at and the servers and bartenders are all very polite. Their beer selection is great, as well as their bottled beer options. I have noticed some inconsistencies at the bar though. One day I went in and ordered a Manhattan and it tasted like gasoline. I have no problem drinking bourbon on the rocks, so I'm not trying to be picky. The taste that went with it was not vermouth. When I mentioned it to the bartender she took my drink and added sour mix to it. Which makes me think they weren't sure what a manhattan was. The food is just ok. I ordered the root beer braised beef tacos. It wasn't horrible, but the shell was half stale. I understand they are trying to do as much home made as possible, and I respect that, and I also understand that means more difficulties in consistency. But still. Anyways, it's a great place to sit and grab a beer, but I would recommend venturing somewhere else for cocktails or dinner.

Love this place. Great assortment of beer. Incredible beer Bison Chili. Great service. Classy decor. My favorite Akron Bar

First, I don't drink. So why did I go to a bar? I heard they had fantastic food. Boy, they sure do!! We were greeted by our very friendly server who didn't rush us when taking our drink order or appetizer order, or our dinner order. I was very happy to learn that in addition to a large selection of beer, Baxters has root beer, and it was quite good. My fiancee and I, along with our friend George, split an appetizer bowl of chili (but we all agreed that it was some of the best we've ever had and should have each gotten our own bowls), Each of us decided on Brew Dogs for our dinner. I got mine with chili, as did our friend George, while my fiancee got hers with ketchup, mustard and pickles. Given how much I loved the chili, it was even better on the hot dog, and was one of the best I've had in Akron, or anywhere else. We took the time to talk to our server about the food, who gave us his full undivided attention, answering all of our questions about food, beverages, and even the restaurant. He also talked to us about the restaurant's new facebook page which they said has helped their business grow greatly.....and I mentioned on there how much I enjoyed my meal as well, in hopes that others will see it and give the place a try. As I said, I don't drink, but they have a HUGE selection of brews to sample if that's your thing.... clearly there is something for everyone here.... and you're missing out on what is eventually going to be an Akron institution if you don't check this place out! I expect that within a year, I will come back and find this place with a line out the door waiting to be seated and a bar full of people...and I would be shocked if that doesn't happen. If they had no alcohol here at all, it would still make a fantastic restaurant! I was hooked from the minute I walked in and everything just kept getting better from there. I left completely satisfied. I forgot to mention, the prices were VERY reasonable. Our meal, with one appetizer shared plus sodas for each of us averaged out to be about $10 a person. For a place I commented had the feel of a mid-upscale bar, that was a very reasonable price. I can't eat that cheaply too many other places in the area!

Loved this place. Right in downtown akron.. nice ambience, great selection of drinks (especially if you are a beer person, which I am not, but there are a huge number of options and choices) .. and great appetizers. We had the cheese platter with crackers and it was awesome! Also tried the hummus appetizer - delicious! Cool place to hang out for drinks and appetizers!
(5)Valerie W.
Love this place to get a beer and just relax, great craft choices- a must go for a beer lover! Great food as well especially the sandwiches.
(5)James T.
Stopped in there yesterday for the first time. Staff was very friendly place was clean. We had the great lakes Erie monster pulled pork flat bread. It was delicious. I will be back to partake in their large selection of beers.
(5)Dustin J.
Fast service so far
(3)Aaron S.
Great options for everyone and ALL GOOD. Huge beer list! How do you make a turkey club that good? I mean its just a regular sandwich, right? No. To Baxter's, it's an opportunity to go next level with flavor. I wish I had one of these in my hometown!

I really need to stop being stubborn about trying new places. *sigh* I know that Baxters hasn't been open too long but my husband and I decided to finally try it out this past weekend. We went in around 9:30 on a Friday evening and were able to grab a seat at the bar. Service was really great and the bartender was wonderful, funny, outgoing and seemed to actually be having fun at his job! Draft selection is pretty decent and I can foresee it having an amazing selection in the future as they've been open a bit longer. Their bottle selection is also excellent and dare I say better than Lockview. SO many good selections and when I asked the bartender to pair a beer with my dinner he didn't hesitate and picked a great wheat beer. Food is also amazing. I love the nuts which are from next door and I think Baxters puts their own twist on them. It's really hard to only keep to 1 order. Tacos were the meal of choice and I LOVE these. I decided to try 1 shrimp, 1 root beer beef, 1 chicken and the rootbeer and shrimp were amazing. Chicken was still good but compared to the others was kind of boring. Either way, best tacos I have had in a long time and the shells were delic. Will be back....probably tonight ;)
(5)Brian H.
Really simple but seriously good. You don't have to be master chef to melt something on flatbread. But they don't skimp. Cheese is creamy delishhhh. Note those extra "h"'s. It means I'm serious. Prices are fair even though initial impression seemed pretentious. Give it a shot!
(4)Russell R.
Nice bar. Great vibe. Good service. Worst pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. (Sorry!)
(2)Jeanie S.
Awesome beer list! The menu is limited, just apps, salads & flatbreads, but they are good at those things. You must get the nuts! They are made next door at the Nut Shop(I think it's called) and they are worth the trip there. Not really a place I'd bring my kids but as a fun lunch date for the hubby and I, perfect.
(4)Ed H.
The beef tacos are the best!
(4)Ashton S.
All good. Nice and quick for lunch. Wedge salad is very good.

I stumbled (literally) into Baxter's one night when the neighboring bar started to die down and I'm REALLY glad I did. This place is a gem in downtown Akron. I can't comment on the food because I've yet to eat here however I can comment on the drinks, atmosphere, service. The first person I encountered here was I believe Jen (?). She is now a manager and I can honestly see why. She was a blast, friendly, and helpful. I love trying new things and everyone there is knowledgeable and wanting to help you find new drinks. She especially got me hooked on the breakfast shot. If you haven't tried it you MUST. It's amazing. My only complaint is that it's too small! Sometimes when you go in there's no where to sit and it can get a little confusing because earlier in the night they seat you and then later you seat yourself - but if that's my only complaint I'll take it! The prices are average however they always offer a "330" drink for $3.30 which is nice! I'd come here over most places downtown any day!
(4)Colleen F.
Great drafts - always something new. The same goes with their menu! Great food and they are always updating the menu - I wouldn't call it 'bar food'
(4)Wesley S.
Taco Tuesdays! I have only been here a few times with friends for Taco Tuesdays, and don't know much about the rest of the food, but the tacos are really good! They are $2 each and you can choose from chicken, beef, pork or veggie. Have a great tap list also.
(3)Jennifer W.
I have only been here once and it's a crying shame. I popped in for lunch so I can't rate the martinis (yet) but if the tini's are anything like the tacos, I am in for a treat. I mixed it up and tried the trio of shrimp, chicken and beef and while they were all good, the beef BLEW MY SOCKS OFF! Consider it cow only from here on out. I will have a difficult time trying anything else to be honest. What a refreshing take on tacos! I love the bar too. It's like a crossroads between townie bar and upscale dining. Perfect for those of us who don't feel like going to Rays/Franks/Brubakers or Crave/Bricco/DBA. And you get the best of both worlds. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try happy hour tini's!
(4)Bryan P.
Food is garabge but the beer selection is phenomenal. I love eating real quick next door and then rushing over for the beer and scotch selection. Furthermore I love their jazz night. It's the only reason to go down that way.

Had planned to hit up Lockview during our Saturday excursion to Akron but forgot it didn't open until 4. Figured we'd checked out Baxter's, as he heard some decent reviews. The decor was nice, the drink and food selection was top notch. The service, however, was atrocious. I know it was Saturday afternoon at 12:30 and only was server was working, but one server should be enough to cover two tables. It took forever to get our drinks, refills were few and far between and our appetizer came out AFTER our entrees (which the waitress blamed on the cook ... it looked on the bill as if she just rang it in late). Luckily, the food was good. We're vegetarians, and the pretzel bites, vegetarian sandwich and quesadillas were quite tasty. I'm sure I'll be back. Hopefully the service is a little better.
(2)Dan R.
Nice looking bar. Great tacos and taco deals on Tuesday. Service seems hit or miss, either excellent or no body ever comes back to the table. They have a nice beer selection but are the only bar I frequent that is out of many beers on their menu all the time.
(3)Derek D.
Great service. Food was alright. A little put off that the seasonal sangria tasted like saltwater. Apparently they had a bad batch but continued to serve it anyway. Also disappointed that the vent in the ceiling leaks water onto the seats of the booth and after my guest sat in it nothing was done about it. We changed seats and watched as someone else sat in the puddle right after us.
(2)Megan K.
I went into Baxter's during the weekday and found myself in an awesome setting that was filled with friendly staff. Literally every staff member asked if I needed anything and seemed to really have a great overall energy about them. Great Customer Service!! I ordered the seasonal salad with chicken and oh my golly it was giant, good and super fresh. I can not say one bad thing about this place and can not wait to go back! Get the salad!
(5)Mark Z.
Very fine draft beer selection! Prices are a little high, but you do get what you pay for here. A very classy atmosphere with excellent food can definitely begin to rival with Bricco for the downtown clientele-
(4)Mark T.
Great tacos and lots of beer choices on tap. Wait staff was excellent
(4)Ryan I.
Went once for biz meeting, once for dinner. Both times the service couldn't have been better. Very ambitious without being pretentious. we here in Akron have a Peanut Shop, probably been around since the Eisenhower administration, and someone finally put their products on the menu, very cool. Antipatso plate awesome, Cuban sando is classic as it should be. Tacos are great in theory but with homemade tortillas u gotta be able to actually fill them without breaking into pieces, but no need to nitpick( is that really a word:)) that being said, a win for Akron. However, I'm not beer guy but I did look at their list. This isn't the Upper East Side kids, might wanna check your drink prices. Just sayin. All in all definate thumbs up, but it's early yet, we'll see.

Stopped in last night..I was served wine in the filthiest glass I have ever seen..Gross..a nd my boyfriend ordered a shot whhich he was charged $9.00 for (Crown Royal) he is lucky if she poured an ounce...just terrible...would not recommend the place to anyone..they were packed simply because of the location..right across from the Civic Theater..if they were located elsewhere they would be out of business..I have been in the business for years..the place sucked

I'm an out of towner, from Baltimore and we do eclectic bars. This place was awesome. Great drinks, cool atmosphere and nice staff. Post up at the bar and order a stiff drink. Everything looks like it's always been there which adds to the great feel. I will definitely be returning when we come to town again.
(5)Lindsey S.
This was a great place for after dinner drinks. They have a great list of beer and the service plus atmosphere was fun. By happy accident we got an awesome dessert in their house made baked cinnamon sugar pretzel bites with maple vanilla sauce.
(5)Jessica D.
This place has a pretty neat feel. The beer selection was great although our waitress didn't deliver anyone the right drink. None of the food we had was better or even up to par with what you could make at home. The pretzel "bites", aka a pretzel stick cut into pieces were probably the star. The burnt pork nachos were edible but not a bit of flavor. The pork was cooked nicely though. As for the entrees, i can't remember the last time I was served food that I'd rather just not eat. The Tuna "melt" was not melted or toasted. Yummy----warm tuna on soft bread with a piece of American cheese. We also got the philly "pizza". By pizza" I mean the 6 inch tortilla passed off as crust that couldn't hold all the mayo that was slathered on here, if you like mayo with a little bread, this is for you! A total bust unless you're looking for beer and a wedge salad.
(2)Nino C.
The number one place for drink selection in Akron. Menu isn't the same as it used to be but the drink list and atmosphere is top notch.
(5)Matt S.
Overall, nice place. I like the openness of the bar. The prices of the drinks and food are reasonable. I got a side salad and a pepperoni flat beard, both were good but I was starving so anything would have been good. I enjoying go here, and will continue going in the future.
(4)Damon B.
Just had drinks and appetizers but service was great and the wife loved the Bloody Mary. The pretzel bites were really good.
(5)Jennifer W.
I liked it better when it was the porn store. My friends and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, looking for a cocktail and food before a baseball game. We were surprised by the limited menu - only salads and flatbreads and a couple different appetizers to choose from. We ended up getting a BBQ chicken flatbread. It was pretty meh. But it was also only $5. The service was not great but not bad, but our server disappeared when it came time to track down our check, which drives me crazy. The interior of the restaurant is nice - the front is open to the street, and it felt pretty summery. The beer list is long and has something for everyone.
(3)Melissa M.
First time at baxter's... Not bad, not great. Out server/bartender was great. She was fun, educated about the beers, and gave good suggestions...even gave me a sample of the sour ale to try before i bought a glass (which I didn't, eww). The bar us cool and had great decor. The bottled beer list was pretty good. As for the food... It was OK. The nuts were awesome. The hummus was OK. The ceasar salad was pretty average. The bbq chicken flatbread was decent (but not good enough to bother taking home the leftovers). However the Sam Smith chocolate stout mouse was amazing! I wanted to lick the martini glass it was served in. I would go back for the beer and the mouse!
(4)Chris K.
Interesting place... Good location across from the theater drove us there. Wide selection of libations, interesting menu. Worth driving out of your way to try.
(4)Katrina V.
The manager here is very professional, well dressed, and put together. Very distinguished gentleman. Family friendly atmosphere. The Flatbread selection is great. We especially enjoyed paddling each other with the boards afterwards. Will be back soon!
(4)Nancy D.
Wonderful place for happy hour who called. Beat 1/2 price appetizers and bonus yummy love pretzel bites .
(3)Kevin G.
terrible service and weak drinks. the waitress we had with tats was the best tho but the manager wouldn't fix our drinks. and then when they did fix the drinks they charged us for extra alcohol and then then used low shelf alcohol! I would not spend a dime there however the waitress deserves much better employment .
(1)Olivia T.
Salad was delicious! Wings were oven baked instead of fried and were soooooo good!!! Sandwich was great as well!! Would definitely go back!
(5)Carol T.
Avoid this place at all costs. Unless you enjoy bugs in your drink. The first time I had Blanton's bourbon was several years ago at this bar. So, on this occasion, I asked the waitress for a double. She clearly had never heard of Blanton's and had to doublecheck with the bartender. After confirming they indeed had some, she confessed that, in the entire time she had worked there, no one had ever ordered a Blanton's. That was the first red flag . But they had it, so why not? The bourbon tasted odd to me. Second red flag. As I neared the end of the glass, I noticed about 5-6 black specks floating at the bottom. I didn't look too carefully as the lighting was dim and I assumed that it was backwash from the chips and dip I was eating. (That was the third red flag as I never get backwash into my drinks.) I downed the rest of it. Then, I requested a double of the Macallan 18. Same routine as above. It eventually came out. I took a sip, and then as the glass was held up to my face, I looked in. And there they were, about 6 dead black gnats, complete with wings and hairy legs, swirling around the bottom of the glass. As the gross factor started kicking in, I realized, to my horror, what the specks had been at the bottom of my Blanton's and were currently floating in my stomach. I am not one to throw a big fit. I realized that no one comes to Baxter's for a whiskey and so the state of their bottles and contents are probably rarely monitored. I also knew it wasn't the waitress' fault. So, I mustered up what dignity I could, and pointed out what had occurred to the waitress. As expected, she was extremely apologetic and went and talked to the supervisor. But here is where I was deeply offended and surprised: they decided to only comp the Blanton's (full of bugs), the Macallan (of which I had only taken a sip of, and full of bugs), and my next drink. I thought they would at least throw in the chips and dip I had ordered (maybe $7), and my boyfriend's hot dog and beer (maybe another $10). I would have gotten up and left at this point, if it weren't for the fact that we had invited friends to meet up with us here and they were already on the way. I didn't want to ruin their experience, considering my experience may have been unique to the liquor, and so had to feign a smile while I watched them drink their bug-free beers (and drank several of my own in an attempt to forget). However, this is the last time I am going to Baxter's. The food was never that good, especially for the price they charge. I've had the tacos before, but the tortilla shells become mush from the liquids in the filling before you can finish it. The tortilla chips are the ones that come out of the bag. While the beers may be safe from contamination because of the volume they go through, the utter insufficiency of the apology and remediation in the face of a disgusting, unsanitary experience is what truly did it in. I've seen a couple of reviewers mention "beer selection." But, their selection is really not that good (maybe impressive to an entry-level craft beer drinker), and there are much better bar options in Akron, with a bigger and more unique beer selection.
(1)Jamie L.
Fun atmosphere, good beer... Never impressed with their food. I would eat some where else and come here for drinks only.
(3)Rob T.
Great food with an enormous beer selection. Love the live music. Can't wait to drink on the their patio this summer
