Dear Emilines, I know that you are currently undergoing renovations. I respect it and I selfishly would like to request that you hurry the process because I miss you! With that being said, everything on the menu is deliciously prepared with love. The energy in the restaurant gave me exactly what I needed. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place because consistently I enjoy good food, good service, good conversation, smiles and I walk home with a full content belly. Love, Tatiana

What a great gem in bedstuy! First off, pleasant wait staff, nice outdoor seating and quick service. Secondly, the BEST coconut French toast with citrus Vanilla syrup my boyfriend and I have ever tasted. Mouth Orgasms were had by all. I also had the curried potato salad with two eggs on top. Very flavorful and large portion. I would say to go a little lighter on the dressing but it was delicious. My boyfriend had the two eggs, cooked perfectly, crispy thick cut bacon and two home made biscuits. All around DELICIOUS brunch.

I visited about a week ago for the first time with my sister. I've never heard of the restaurant before, but was close by and hungry, so we decided to try it out. The staff was very friendly and personable. We went on a Saturday and brunch was served until around 5pm, I think, which I thought was cool, since it seems like most places stop serving brunch way earlier. We ordered the crab cakes and home fries and expected to get 1 small lump of crab and a small amount of home fries. Instead, we got 2 huge crab cakes, side salad, and (in my opinion) the best tasting home fries with peppers I ever had. And all for like $15 bucks. The place is kid friendly with paper and crayons on each table, and I believe they also have events for kids there, though nothing was happening at the time we went. The restaurant is clean and spacious, and the atmosphere was very cozy. Conversations buzzed around us at a comfortable level, so I did not have to "shout-talk", nor did I feel the need to whisper. The rest of menu looked appetizing. The waitresses and waiters were kind and courteous, and we never felt rushed to finish our meal and leave. It's a family owned establishment and we got some of the history from our waitress. There's also a nice sized seating area outside. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here and I'm looking forward to going back often. Side note: I got the rest of my (and my sister's) home fries to go, put them in the fridge, and the next day, they were STILL so. freaking. tasty!

From the moment we walked into Emeline's we were punched in the face with the amazing scent of a home cooked meal, topped with the warm morning greeting from the staff. Needless to say this is my new favorite Brooklyn eatery. Order the Chicken & Waffles ... You can thank me later

I give Emeline's a strong 3.5. Very cozy establishment that may not be able to accommodate its guest the more popular they become and if they start to sell alcohol. While waiting I watched several people of all ages and ethnicities pop in to check out the excitement as the band sat at the window. The food was good but our waitress needed a little help. She was a little forgetful and was not well versed on what we needed at our table - that's pretty much the basics of serving that will quickly annoy a customer. The greens (salad) was very tasty and lightly flavored. You can tell the ingredients of the food are fresh and distinctly crafted. The floor plan is an open set up that gives it a commune feeling while the large windows invite the sunlight in. I would definitely come back but with a smaller party. My party of 5 took a while to be seated, and there is nothing worse that watching folks that arrive after you cheerfully walk to a table while your stomach grumbles in anger grrrrr. I am very proud that this business is thriving, Bed Stuy "do-ing" and far from dying!

I should have been the first to review this place, but alas. I first stopped in months ago when a neighborhood friend was going to eat there. I found the service to be really genial then and it remains so. I've only ever gotten breakfast and/or brunch here, and both are very worthwhile. I can only comment on the omelets then, as well as the potatoes, salad, and the like, all of which are pretty tasty; the sweetie ordered the Chicken n' Belgian Waffles and she ate 'em up! Perhaps what I like best is the charm. At Sunday brunch they provide these mini-biscuits and honey...what a great touch. I realized on my last visit that it feels like an authentic southern restaurant, with a touch of NYC style. Its relaxed in here, a bit serene, and even when somewhat full not hectic like their neighbor down the street. I love that.
(4)Reshard R.
They should work on consistent hours and service. I was seated and had to wait 10 minutes to get a menu because the waitress thought it was more important to text on her cell phone and chat with her friend behind the counter. It would seem that with that long wait...and then the subsequent additional wait for my utensils that I would just be knocking down the door to go there again. Had the food been noteworthy it might have afforded me an opportunity to overcome such poor service, but alas it was not. It was bland and tasteless with regard to the grits and the coffee was lukewarm. Get it together guys because you are not the only brunch spot around in this neighborhood. And for goodness sake calibrate the hot water in the bathroom sink because I'm surprised you don't have a burn victim lawsuit against you.

So I live right down the block and decide to give this place a try... I ordered pancakes turkey sausage and egg whites.. I must say the syrup and the sausage were great but the pancakes where burnt it has a dry taste to it.. No matter how much syrup I put on it it was the same... Let a alone the whole plate was $17... Just for those three items... Who the hell made it to be so pricey Oprah???? And they don't deliver... I gave them another try another time just to see if they had a bad day or something and to me they just have bass everyday...

I'm giving a 1 star on the food the service was cool.I ordered two basic meals egg and cheese and buttermilk pancakes.I received eggs with too much pepper and the pancakes tats like a whole bunch of cinnamon and it wasn't cooked all the way. Will I return I don't think so.That was basic things that couldn't be executed
(2)Nicholas C.
The food is good! I had a bacon kale and tomato sandwich and it slayed. I don't have the patience to eat here though. You know that sinking feeling when you look around and realize that everyone who came in after you already has their food? And then you ask the person at the counter to check on your order and the chef hasn't started yet? That just happened to me, and it sucked.
(2)Jerome T.
This is a tuff review, because as soon as I walked past this place I wanted to LOVE it. Off the bat, you should know that there is no adult beverages here and it usually has a lot of kids in strollers parked at tables. The interior is basic, nothing special. But, somehow, in this large rectangular space, coziness still oozes from here. I love southern comfort food. I grew up eating it because my mother was a horrible cook, so my friend's mom took pity on me and pretty much fed me until my early 20s. She was from Mississippi. Now, that doesn't make me an authority, but it does give me a point of view. When I go to a restaurant, it's because I can't make the dishes as good as they can. Whether it's McDonald's or Peter Luger, the dishes have to be something I either can't be bothered with or can't replicate. I have been here twice now. Food: The coconut french toast is very good. I love coconut and I can eat this everyday. I don't make french toast. + The waffles arent super crunchy. It's tasty enough and you get a nice portion. It's better then diner waffles, but not by much. I can't be bothered with making waffles. + The fried chicken is very, very average. I've had it twice now and it's been overcooked and a tad greasy each time. It wasn't on the bone and came in strips. Really? If I wanted that, I'd go to Williamsburg. It's also not seasoned very well. I can make better tasting fried chicken in my own kitchen. - The grits were good. Buttery and silky smooth. I can't be bothered making grits, so I give it a thumbs up. + The service and vibe: Very attentive and friendly staff. That said, the food is very slow to get to your table. Patience is key here, so don't come here if you are in a rush. You feel like you are in someone's home. I love that and it's a hard thing to do. + In the end, is it better then the food at Peaches down the street? It's apples and oranges. Judging from the chicken and waffles, no; but, you can't judge an entire restauant on this dish. It's for families with kids and older people who don't want adult beverages with their meal. It's a warmer/cozy diner type of place; they are making classics with a slight twist, but not reinventing it. If you don't need an adult drink with your meal and are looking for a decent breakfast place, this is it. Have that in your mindset before coming here and you will be ok.
(3)Andrew K.
Food: The breakfast was delicious. I had chicken and waffles and my wife had a western omelette with a biscuit. I was very impressed with the flavors of both and would particularly recommend the chicken and waffles. Service: I would not disagree with most of what has already been stated on here w/r/t the service. I would recommend to potential diners that they not try to hop in and hop out of Emeline's - plan for a leisurely meal - there's a sign on the wall about good things taking time--in this case I would agree: definitely worth checking out but not if you have a plane to catch.
(4)Victoria F.
Very bright open happy space. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The live music was just the right atmosphere. I found that the brunch menu was a touch limited but whatever I ate or tasted was wonderful. (The two eggs any style platter and the coconut french toast were AMAZING!!!) I will definitely be returning!!
(4)Samita W.
It's been a loooong time since I've been supremely satisfied with a meal eaten out. Brunch here was fantastic. Friendly service, good coffee, fluffy omelet, creamy grits, and buttery biscuits. This southern girl is quite happy to have this place so close to home.

UPDATE: I went back the following day with full confidence that my experience the day prior was an anomaly. It was. The experience turned out to be what I had hoped for the day before. Moreover, the coconut French toast was unique and delectable. Needless to say, I'll be back and hope to see you there. I'm sure the food here is worth the wait. I'm confident about that. I observed the staff, and my assessment is that service is on par with the menu. I may have to give this place another chance, because I left a bit disappointed without having my meal. I waited at least 45 minutes for a meal that did not get served. When I asked the kind bus gentleman how much longer would it be before my meal arrived, he innocently responded, "...you didn't eat yet?" Go figure...I sat and waited maybe 3 more minutes and realized, this is not the best experience for a first time patron. I left. Mind you, the two adorable church ladies that arrived after me; though received their menu and placed their order before myself...left just as frustrated as I became. Next time.

Came here on a rainy Sunday for brunch. The food is excellent! There was no wait and a 2 person band was playing. The crowd was racially mixed, couples families, and friends. The staff is friendly and slow. Expect a slow paced leisurely meal. My sister waited for 5 minutes for some packaged butter and warm syrup for her then cold pancakes. The wait for the waitresses attention seems like forever. The food is excellent! I had an everything omelet (sautéed onions and peppers, mushrooms, spinach, ham and cheese) with bacon and grits. There was no need for additional salt or pepper. The complimentary mini biscuits with honey are delicious. The live music is a great touch. But in between sets the 2 men walk around soliciting donations. I had to explain to each man, on different occasions that when I finish eating my food in front of me, I will gladly leave a tip. That was a big turn off for me. I don't need a strange man leering over me while I'm trying to put a piece of bacon in my mouth. I would definitely go back again and recommend this place.

Decided on this place after reading reviews for a girlfriend and I to have brunch. Atmosphere was cozy and the chicken & waffles was good. My friend and I both said we would come back!
(5)Sarah M.
Glad to see a new restaurant in the area. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and loved it. I ordered the coconut French toast, it was good but they served it with some weird syrup which they happily gave me maple syrup for instead. Gave us biscuits in the start which was tasty, but we did watch them give the table next to us biscuits as well, which were 5x the size as the ones we received -- interesting. However: The decor needs a lot of work. The sound acoustics is horrible in here, you can barely hold a conversation because the place is so empty design wise, that the sound is bouncing all over the place, super echo-y. They need to really do better interior design in this place or it's not going to survive. They should want the Peaches and Saraghina's customers, but in order to do that they really need a better atmosphere because the vibe is less than desirable. We could barely hear our waitress because of all of the noise of people talking and sound bouncing everywhere. If they don't pay more attention to how the interior looks and really making this place stand out and look amazing, it's going to fail. And I would hate to see that because there's tons of potential here! Also, background music!! And LIQUOR.

On 6/7/15 I bypassed my regular spot to have brunch at Emeline with a friend from out of town. The atmosphere was nice and a nice band was playing. We waited 45 minutes to be served. After I inquired about my order we were served but the forgot half of my order in the kitchen. I had to ask on two separate occasions for my home fries and toast. The staff was however courteous. I will not return to this place.

This review is strictly about delivery, which I was happy to see Emeline's offers though seamless. I ordered brunch on a Sunday. Two entrees and a side. I received the confirmation from the restaurant right away, at 11:30, saying 30 -45 min wait time. Fine. After an hour I called just to check. I'm patient enough, just wanted to make sure we weren't lost in the shuffle. The first time I called the restaurant I got an answering machine. I called back and got a woman, who was obviously swamped but trying to keep it together. Unfortunately that meant that she was just rude. And unapologetic. I explained I was checking on my delivery order and that I ordered an hour ago. She asked for my name, found my order and said, 'oh yeah that'll be another hour.' I explained my email confirmation had a wait time of 30 -45 min, and did she know that? She said 'well that won't happen, we are not fast food.' I asked how much longer and she said another hour and a half, and did I want to cancel my order, which was obviously what she was hoping for. So I said sure, cancel it. Then before I could ask her how to get a refund (again Seamless already charged my card), she hung up on me. The food may be great, I don't know. But I do know that it's of no use to offer delivery (in a neighborhood in desperate need of some delivery options) if you are wildly incapable of handling it. It just pisses people off, in this case me. Not that the woman answering the phone at Emiline's noticed, or cared. Too bad.

Great new spot in the Stuy! We were in desperate need of a new cafe spot in our part of the neighborhood. My first visit was on a quiet Wednesday afternoon so it was easy to get decent service. I had a veggie omelette that came with a schmorgesborg of sides: bacon, biscuits, grits, and salad. The omelette was very flavorful which isn't easy to find in a personalized omelette. The space is bright & airy and I look forward to seeing them utilize the patio space in front when the weather finally turns. Best part? They are one of the TWO restaurants that deliver via Seamless in Stuyvesant Heights! Finally! Also love the fact they have Crayons so you can doodle on the table paper. Can't wait to try lunch next visit
(4)Zee E.
Great brunch time. Live band playing... Good food, friendly staff... The deliver now.. Yippee
(5)Hank S.
This is a great neighborhood place -- staff is super friendly, it's all family-run, and the food is delicious. Good weekend brunch spot, had some great pancakes w. bacon. Tasty and well-priced sandwiches during the week, too. Feels like eating in the breakfast room of a BnB.
(4)Walt L.
Finally a great Breakfast spot in Bed-Stuy! Fresh vegetable omelet, grits and biscuits all delicious as were the pancakes. Appropriately sized portions that leave you full but not stuffed. Outside seating a plus. A bit slow on service but as its a new spot will give it time.
(4)Daniela B.
The layout is very nice. Came on a lunch break. Sat outside. Waited 5minutes still no menus. We shifted inside and sat ourselves. Given menus but nobody took our order until I had to call out and say we were ready to order. 30minutes later still no food. We order a burger medium and a Reuben sandwich. I had to call out to the waiter again. How much longer? He said five minutes. I asked for the check. He was on the other side of the counter and I was at a table. He waved it and left it sitting on the counter and proceeded to go check on the other tables. Really. I was a waiter for 7years it takes minimal effort to at least place the check on the table. We paid and continued to wait more than five minutes. I asked the waiter if he could see if the food was ready. It was and it was just sitting there. He packed it and we left. Once I got back to work and began to eat the sandwich it was good a little salty. The salad dressing was extremely spicy. Overall it's a nice layout but speed and service need to be improved. Having one more person on the floor and one more cook will help increase productivity. There is no reason a sandwich and a medium burger should take longer than 20 minutes.

A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO SPEND YOUR SUNDAY FOR BRUNCH. The food is amazing. The service is even more amazing. Great energy. Everyone is so friendly and attentive.

EMILINES ON RALH AVENUE IN BED STYE BROOKLYN-Sophiticated food for sophisticated people not downhome like T-Rock on Ralph-not soulful-reviews lousy
(1)Alesia J.
My food was great once I finally got it. However, waiting 45 minutes to get turkey sausage, eggs and grits is ridiculous. Especially since the place wasn't crowded. I blame the kitchen because the server was very friendly and quite apologetic. I will give them one more chance.
(3)Tiera C.
I ordered from grub hub. The food is Amazing, Fresh and Delivery fast. But I gave 3 stars instead of 5 Because , twice they forgot something on my order in the same day.. And instead of sending it I was told to have my money refunded. Not even an option to send the item that was paid for.. That I don't like.. I'll think about ordering again. Food 5 star. Customer service 2-3.
(3)Derrek C.
This place is GREAT! We enjoyed the waffles, grits, hash, turkey sausage, home fries, and service. We're looking forward to our next visit for sure!
(4)Theresa B.
Emeline's is a nice quiet atmosphere and in a great location. Everything on the menu is delicious and affordable. The customer/hospitality is very warm and pleasant. Everytime my friend and I dine in at Emeline's we just can't seem to get enough. This is an excellent place to go with friends and family to have a good bite to eat. The owner should think about expanding Emeline's and open up other locations. I am definitely looking forward to dinning here again this Sunday with family.
(5)Angela R.
Nice neighborhood spot! And much needed. Black owned and of the community. Try the chicken and waffles and the crab cakes. They're delicious
(5)William W.
I live less than a block away. I eat there all the time. Food is great and the portions are good. The service is good and everyone who works there is very nice. I definitely would suggest this place for breakfast if you are in the area.
(5)Darrel E.
I thought this was a very cozy place to eat. I had the Turkey Burger with seasoned fries and I was so full. That was the richest flavoring burger I've ever had. And the fries were nice and crispy. I would have preferred a soft drink as a beverage instead of Hot Tea but nonetheless it was quite cute and comfortable. The lady behind the Barista was a cutie and made the place very charming.
(4)Damon B.
Delicious spin on comfort food. You definitely get your money's worth and more - great food at a great price!
(5)J S.
I really want to love this place but it's quite hard to do. Ultra small portions, lame interior, no character, and no music. I catch myself walking over to peaches instead.
(3)Matt L.
Had a great brunch. Chicken and waffles are delicious. Everyone is really nice and welcoming. Place gets great light so it's very cheery and open. Prices are a little up there but the food is worth it in my opinion.
(5)BklynMama K.
Friendly neighborhood joint with pleasant but unassuming decor. The food was excellent but the service was slow.
(4)Ted C.
The food in this place is very good, you will not be disappointed. But, only go if you have a lot of time and your not in a hurry.
(3)Jeri L.
I finally ate at Emiline's for the first time this afternoon, and I must say the food is really yummy! The crab cakes and biscuits were a stand out, but everything was tasty. The service was prompt, and everyone was friendly. My one big complaint with this place is the hours. They are only open from 9-4, which is why it's taken me months to go. I have a job! I worry for this place. I don't know how they are going to stay open, cutting out their potential customers who have the most disposable income. They should really be open for dinner, and if you're going to count on the brunch crowd, have a liquor license, because a lot of customer want those mimosa's and bloody mary's. Plus liquor is such a HUGE mark up for a restaurant, it's a great way to make extra money.
(4)Don R.
We had brunch on Sunday at this new restaurant on Lewis Avenue in Bed-Stuy -- Peaches, the well known neighbor a block away, was opening an hour later than usual. It was great. Terrific open, clean atmosphere; friendly and prompt service and terrific food. I had crispy spicy chicken and Belgian waffles with a citrus vanilla syrup. My wife had an omelet with cheese and grilled vegetables that she said was delicious. This is a welcome addition to a nifty neighborhood.
(5)Erica S.
Love this place! I have been living in the neighborhood for a while and I have been craving a local owned mom and pop diner. Emeline's story is rich with the history of a family who have been in BedStuy for generations. Great service, Great atmosphere and delicious home style food. They will welcome you like you are a part of their family.
(4)K M.
My first time here and they just gained a new customer.... I ordered the salmon croquettes with a side of homefries, biscuits and a fresh garden salad infused with kale. OMG best choice everrrrrrr. But, before I rant about the food let me discuss the ambiance and staff. Absolutely clean and great smelling restaurant. I am always skeptical about a place that isn't kept well and in here, I had no issues here. This place was sparkling clean. Next, the very pleasant and well groomed staff members added a great touch to the place so I was automatically sold. I placed my order over the phone so I came to pick it up and head back to work. Upon arrival it was well packaged and waiting at the counter. With a smooth transition, I paid and headed out. Now for the taste....the salmon croquette was DELICIOUS and so tasty. A true southern cuisine in Brooklyn....Well cooked to perfection and placed next to a fresh garden salad with a surprise serving of kale yummmy. I'm not sure what the sauce was on the side but it added an additional flavor to the dish. The homefries were wonderful and the biscuits were buttery and soft. I'm so ready to return here again and try something else
(5)Holly S.
Great Service THEY HAVE TURKEY BACON pancakes yummy Fried chicken and waffles (yummy) I honestly like them waaaaay better than the last 4 visits to Peaches down the block. Walked by a few times ... Finally decided to try it. Well worth it!
(5)Laura E.
Wait was suuuuper long (and the place was dead). Food was okay, but definitely not worth the wait.
(2)Jamilah J.
This place is absolutely amazing!!!! Went here for brunch on Saturday with my best friend and her daughter and it's the most pleasant atmosphere ever. The staff is wonderful and the food is absolutely amazing!!! I had the coconut French toast with sausage and it was to die for!!! Going back again soon!
(5)Natasha J.
I really enjoyed my meal. I had the Buttermilk pancakes with Pork Bacon. It was great. My only problem was the service. It took the waitress ten mins for us to get menus. Then I asked for hot syrup and butter. That took another five mins. The waitress was very kind, but also slow. I excited to learn that it is a family owned restaurant. You don't find many of those in Brooklyn any more. Also they are African American. They crowd was mixed which I also liked. I would go back again and again. They also have live music.....
(4)Aricleiny C.
I really liked Emilines especially how I get to draw on the tables. We ordered chicken and waffles and turkey burger. The burger was seasoned and delicious the chicken from the chicken and waffles wasn't all the rave but the waffles were amazing. I'd definitely return in the near future but my only reason for not giving them 5 stars were those little cups of juice. I'm not a child I need more juice!
(4)K G.
The only thing that is good about this place is the food. Nothing else is good. The service is HORRIBLE, the wait staff are not insightful people we waited forever to get our meals.
(2)Monique B.
Went here on my birthday for breakfast with the man 5/14/2015, we usually go to Tom's that's our tradition every birthday, but I decided I would go somewhere different, what a mistake that was, when we got here their was a B ratings on the window, I usually don't eat out of B ratings places, but I looked up why some places get b's and realize they can get B ratings for the smallest things so I had him drive back to emeline's, I ordered the crab cake with home fries and kale salad, he had french toast eggs and a turkey sausage, I always complain about places who make homefries, because it's always so bland, my home fries was so peppery, I know that's not a word but, I'm just saying it had to much pepper in it, the crab cake was alright, it was huge, didn't have much of a taste to it, but I ate it, my boyfriend, enjoyed his food, until he looked in his water and it had a bug in it, we told the waiter and he just looked in the cup took it away and brought him back more water, in a different cup of course, but he never said I'm sorry about the bug or anything he just looked in the glass like oh ok as if a bug in your cup was normal, that just disgust me, I would never go here again
(1)Noah K.
Pros: Delicious breakfast food, very affordable, excellent customer service. So sweet to have a family-run restaurant in the neighborhood. Cons The plates are way too small (literally the plates- portions are fine). Plastic water glasses- I might suggest glass to bump it up a bit. Also a huge TV looms over the restaurant- this feels like a trashy distraction in a pretty place- seems out of place. Overall, it's a great addition to the neighborhood.
(4)Jerome J.
The food here was amazing!!!! I ordered the Emeline's Breakfast with waffles, eggs and turkey bacon. The eggs were seasoned perfectly like they came from home. The waffles were nice and fluffy. The vanilla syrup and fruit compote were great with the waffles. The turkey bacon was cooked well. The folks who worked here were very nice and held great conversation. I really felt at home. I cannot attest to the other reviews that said they service was lackluster because I was one of only two customers at the time.
(4)nicola b.
Had breakfast here today I would definitely go back if I'm in the mood for some chicken and waffles. ..the coffee selection was pretty bland and I see what the mean about slow service as I was done for a while and didn't get check or offered a coffee refill other then that a pretty decent spot
(3)Michelle B.
When you come here don't expect quick service. It took over an HOUR today for lunch- for simple grits and a BLT. Come-on. Then there was hair in my food so I reluctantly had to send it back after waiting so long already. There was hardly anyone in the place so there is no reason it should be such a wait. The food was fairly good although the sandwich was so greasy that I didn't leave feeling like a ate a nice $10 lunch. I must say the side salad was very good and the dressing had a nice flavor/kick to it. I really want to like this place but the decor is lacking and the atmosphere just isn't comparable to what you can get somewhere else in the neighborhood. It has a very stale, sterile feeling inside. The service is friendly which I do appreciate. They have made great coffee and maybe calling ahead for pickup is the way to go.
(3)Melissa K.
Wowowowowow, I'm gushing over here. This place is on point every step of the way. It's a family run business, complete with the family tree painted on the wall to the pictures of days past. I felt like a tiny part of the family while I was there. My bro and I split lots of delicious goodies: Blueberry pancakes with apple compote Spinach & mushroom omelet (with yummy peppers onions and cheese that were a pleasant surprise) Sides of bacon, sausage, home fries and biscuits I can't believe how perfect the flavors and textures were. The bacon had a perfect crisp without being overcooked, the omelet was fluffy, even the side green salad had fresh, shredded purple cabbage that had its own original flavor that came through. The waitstaff, (T.T.) was friendly, smiley and delivered just the right amount of attention. (Thank you for boxing up our food for us!) I felt so at home. Thanks for a great breakfast, Emeline's!
(5)Jeanene B.
I've been wanting to visit Emeline's for some time now and I'm glad I did. Overall, the experience was a good 4. However, I was not happy with my salmon croquette. Now let me clarify. For someone else they would think it was delicious, I on the other hand will not order it again. I'm from Chicago and most people in Chicago cook like they're from the south......with pure soul. Not to say that my croquette lacked soul but it was very low on the soul list. I prefer a croquette that is shaped like a patty, rolled in cornmeal and fried hard - DELISH!!! Instead it was beautifully presented, the shape of a molten cake and unfortunately rolled in bread crumbs. Not the type of salmon croquette I'm used to. It kind of reminds me of the difference between 'stuffing' and 'dressing'; from where I'm from we do cornbread dressing. With that being said many people might enjoy it. Overall, a great experience and I will totally return, especially if they do BYOB for brunch. I just won't have the croquette .

Really lovely family-owned restaurant that's great for brunch! One star off only because the menu is rather small and vegetarian options are limited. It's a somewhat small place and despite being almost a full house, we were seated immediately. Servers were super friendly and showed great hospitality. We loved the crayons and butcher paper on the table, and made use of them in the short wait for our plates. The french toast is made with baguette bread, which was a different but delicious take. Would love to see this neighborhood spot blossom and grow.

Food would definitely get 5 stars but the customer service drops it to 2. We went for brunch and when seated we weren't offered coffee. We were given menus and when we finally placed our order we stressed the need and desire for coffee. Instead of getting coffee, our inattentive waitress decided to dwaddle. We finally had to flag down another waitress to get us coffee. When we got our food, we were told they were out of biscuits--this was before noon--and that they were being made fresh. The restaurant wasn't overly crowded so not sure how that happened. When the fresh, hot biscuits finally arrived--they were great--our meal had been completed and plates cleared away. As I said, the food is great. If you don't care about customer service, take a shot.

Here's 1 star because the waitress was very nice and helpful. Otherwise, would be 0. for the rest, pass your way. We ordered scrambled eggs without sausage or ham, eggs weren't scrambled, were oily as hell, and tasted as sausages... Ordered a oatmeal, got something sticky and looking like glue... Ate 1 spoon of it, didn't took it away obviously, been charged $9. The coffee was so "good" that I asked for milk twice and emptied 3 sugar packs in it to give it the taste of something I could drink. Pancakes? Dripping oil, overcooked and yellow/greenish colored (was expecting golden pancakes). Tasted like fried churros. Let's say that it was bad luck, but honestly we ordered like 4 or 5 dishes as a big brunch, everything was awful (eggs, grits, oatmeal, pancakes...). We tipped the charming waitress, and walked away forever.

I was going to wait until my second visit to Emeline's before my review of the place. But I can't wait. I can't wait to go back and I can't wait to tell you about the delicious chicken and waffles dish I devoured there. That's right...devoured! It was amazing to say the least. I'm not even a waffle person, but these I can eat again and again and again! They were served with a vanilla citrus syrup of some sort. Mind you I asked the waitress to hold that and give me regular syrup. Apparently, she forgot. But I was not mad at her, because the citrusy stuff went superbly with the whole dish. Who knew?... I guess they do! Uhm...now the chicken... was everything! It was well seasoned, crispy outside, tender and juicy inside and had a nice little spicy bite to it. Even the coffee was a winner... steaming hot and nice & strong. Just like I like it, and in a big ol' mug to boot! Not those little tiny diner cups that helps your coffee get cold real fast. The service was good. The waitress was friendly and tentative. Loved the decor, the whole place was open spacious and bright. Will I go back? Yaasss!!!! Over and over again! I hope my next visit proves to be as delicious as my first. Kudos to you Emeline...my new neighborhood breakfast spot!

This is a mixed review.... 4 stars for the food which was delicious (though not a huge selection if you are vegetarian) however, the wait was unacceptable. While we were seated pretty quickly, no one came to ask us if we wanted coffee or drinks for at least 15 minutes or so. After eventually getting coffee we ended up waiting over an hour and a half (closer to two hours) for it to arrive while watching others be served before us (even though they all arrived after us) and leave before our food even arrived. When it did arrive it came staggered and some side dishes didn't arrive at all, despite asking the waitress. The excuse for the 'delay' was that the restaurant is home style, which is nice but no excuse for such a ridiculous wait time. In reality it was probably due to Super Bowl Sunday deliveries they were making (deliveries which we watched time and time again be prepared and leave the restaurant as we waited). The waitstaff was pleasant, the place is clean and seems to be quite rooted in Bedstuy. Despite living two blocks away, we won't be back. I don't mind waiting a little bit longer than usual for great food but Emeline's does not make the cut.
