Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

One of the last remaining early gentrification faux drives in south slope. Glad to see it surviving the second wave.

I have a love/hate relationship with this bar. The crowd can be weird, a lot of regulars and some bartenders are fun but some are just rude. Its dirty and cheap. I have friends that love it here so I have had a lot of good times there They DO have a lot of fun games - darts, pool, air hockey, arcade games, board games, etc. so if you bring your friends it can be a great place to hang out - its what you make of it!
(3)Kelsey B.
Air hockey, pool table, and cheap drinks with fast service. Perfect night cap bar.
(5)National H.
Great little corner bar for those who like bars that look and act like bars. If you're looking for a handlebar-moustache twirling mixologist to assemble an artisanal cocktail this might not be the place for you. If you're into friendly bartenders, a warm and social crowd, nice low lighting, a pool table where I've had pick-up matches with strangers, honest beers and whiskies than this is most certainly the place for you! This is a really nice spot that deserves a shot. *If you're angry or loud in a bad way steer clear! If you're nice and only get a bit loud when you're having a good time bring it on in, pull up a stool, talk to the stranger next to you, and tip your bartender. I guarantee you'll walk out of there feeling even better than when you walked in.

Decent dive-ish bar in kinda South Slope. Come with a crew or expect to feel less important than the regulars, of which there are many. There's pool, air hockey and buck hunter. Don't expect a buy-back if they don't know your name, no matter how much more you're tipping than those damn regulars. Also, someone will definitely take your spot at the bar, and while I've seen bartenders shoo off similar stool-stealers at other bars, it's not happening here. You either come all the time, or you're expendable. Prices are in line with expectations. Which means cheap enough. Years ago I had great interactions here with other drinkers, so maybe you can meet some interesting people? I dunno.

This bar is wonderful! Mel is the sweetest, most wonderful bartender to hit the scene. She was just the sweetest. If she's not there, you've been deprived of a ray of sunshine.

My girlfriend and our roommate absolutely LOVE this place. Sure, it's nothing special to look at from the outside and very easy to miss (there is no sign on the building, just a board out front of the door), but the inside is filled with a warm, welcoming experience, not to mention the adorable little mascot that greets you as soon as you enter the room! The decor screams "older crowd" but I assure, the bar always contains 20-30 somethings just looking to get some cheap drinks and have a good time. This place has easily become a go-to spot in my neighborhood, as it is just a short walk from my apartment. Highlights of the bar: Free darts, $3 happy hour from 5pm-7pm, $1 air hockey table in the back, a friendly mascot to play fetch with, and a pool table for those who are the drinking/gaming type (although the table is somewhat falling apart and needs re-leveled very badly due to a slight lean on one side, but it's the only pool table in a 6 block span, so who cares). Downsides of the bar: Not an extremely large selection of drafts. They have about 7 or 8 taps, but luckily, they are all good beers and not your typical Bud-Light dive-bar scenario drafts. Overall, it's just a great, low key, relaxed place to hang out and have drinks. I always spend less than $20 every time I go, and I'm always satisfied by the overall enjoyable quality of the experience.
(5)Justin L.
Clean Dive with Buck Hunter, Billiards and 3 Dollar drafts 5-7. Has poor draft list.
(3)Michelle S.
If you are looking for a sign, then you will walk right by this place. It's a great dive bar. Assorted furniture from all era and just a great neighborhood atmosphere. If you are looking for a place to just hang out with friends and not be worried about "the scene" then come here. Bartenders are very nice and drinks are reasonably priced.
(4)E L.
Friendly diverse crowd (small enough for open seats) on a Friday night.
(4)Benjamin B.
Cheap beer, cheap whiskey, worth every penny.
(4)Ingrid S.
When I used to live near here years ago this was the bar I would run home to after work and patiently wait for my roommate to get over. It's changed drastically over the years. It's still a watering hole but the greatest dive to have a chat with the neighbors, play a game of pool, order a pint or well drink for $3 until 9pm. They also have a decent selection for a dive: Shiner Bock, Sweet Action, Kelso, Stella, Guinness. Go crazy. Wells from what I remember were super strong but it depends on your bartender. They also used to come in much bigger glasses. A few months ago they nose-dived to a C-rating and one of my friends refused to go inside when wandering the neighborhood. But this past weekend. . . .hoo hoo hoo, someone jacked that up to an A! Its my lucky day! I went inside and noticed the ski ball was gone. Frowny face. But they still have Big Buck, Ms. PacMan, and that pool table. The jukebox has a fantastic selection. I love Buttermilk. Not just strongly like. LOVE. It's barely noticeable when walking by because they don't have a flashy sign or any decor on the outside but inside its strangely warm and welcoming. I also made friends with a very enthusiastic Corgi pup that night.
(4)Rebecca L.
A very casual laid back bar, perfect setting for if you want to have a conversation with someone over drink. On a Sunday evening, this place was very calm and easy to find a place to sit. The bartender here was really friendly and there was even a cute little Korgi dog running around. $3 draft beer specials until 9 pm. Pool table and darts.
(4)Ashraf H.
I came here with my friends again. Beer tasted ok this time around. Setting was OK. Will come again if my friends happen to be here. Still won't go out my way for this place though.
(3)Ro C.
Soooo, I came back here last night (sober) and the place has changed- the air hockey table is gone and was replaced by a skee ball machine (downgrade!). Other patrons seemed skeevier and more unpleasant (yes, woman playing darts, I'm looking at you), and the whole demeanor of the place just changed in 2 weeks. Drinks are still cheap though so I guess they still have that going for them.
(2)Mitch E.
Been here a few times. Good spot but I when the bartender is more drunk than any patron in the bar and attempts to fight some, it's never a good look. Won't hold it against the place because of one bad bartender but it's gonna lose a star. Lets go into what she did. - Came over asked us what we wanted but had to come back over about three times to ensure she had it right. - Brought us over the wrong drinks and when notified her, she threw the drinks (glasses and all) on the floor behind us. Not in rage at us but just because she was a mess. - Took a few minutes to remember she had to get us new drinks. - Poorly made drink. (Went with beer and shots the rest of the night) - She threw the Halloween candy we were eating on the floor. - Some guy called her a bitch as he left and she hopped over the bar and attempted to "fight" him. - She kept coming over and said "I'm sorry I'm so drunk, can I get you guys anything?" as if it was free. Then charged us. - Gave me a wrong beer. Then got me the correct one. (If I'm tipping you, it's close to closing time and you got me the wrong beer, let me have both)
(3)Raphael D.
Keep your taps in check yo. Got a Kelso that was flatter and skunkier than the gutter water on my roof. After that fail I got a Goose Island summertime that was only slightly less flat. Miller High Life to the rescue again! One the other hand they have a pool table and pretty decent happy hour deals. The vibe is a combination of grown-up dive and somewhere you'd tell someone to get their shinebox.
(2)Pat B.
Was here for a world cup game. The bar was very crowded, and there was only one bartender and no barback, but the bartender did a terrific job. Drink orders will filled quickly, glasses were cleared. I don't know how she did it! We even got a buy back.
(5)Tiffany D.
The ambiance if the bar was pretty cool. Full of lovely people. The DJ was good. I think his name was Rich.
(4)R T.
I dunno why, but I'm feeling me some Buttermilk love once again. I used to haunt this place 3-4 years ago when the bar options in this area were kinda slim. Things got pretty shitty though... one of the bartenders was a total d-bag, I caught strep from a dirty pint glass, and they started having way too many shows. (Live hip-hop? Umm, no thank you.) Fast forward a few years... and after some growing pains, Buttermilk actually seems half-way decent again. Gone are the annoying, sweaty crowds of meatheads which means I can sit at the bar all by my lonesome and quietly sip away at a few beers...
(4)Jonathan E.
On the one hand, this place is groovy. Cheap drinks, cool vibe, exposed brick walls, nice tunes. On the other hand, it's a dive with tiny, fall apart bathrooms and not a place to eat. If you don't mind Sharpie poetry on your toilet paper dispenser, you'll be fine. But it seems this place is more about the whims of the crowds. It can be empty and it can be full. It can be dead or hopping. There's a pool table that is either not used or is the center of attention. In other words, it's a simple place that changes wildly depending on the night/momentum. Your experience might vary between great and ho hum.
(3)Eva C.
We went looking for a cheap dive bar, and we found it. Special things about this bar: 1. Friendly bartender who made my husband a new drink after he accidentally spilled one. 2. Extra cute surprise mascot. Also very friendly. 3. My bill was much less than I expected! 4. Good music 5. Tacky stone wall with Christmas lights that looks like it belongs in a pizza place.
(5)Chris D.
super chill bar with pool table in the back. Oh yea... and they have a 5dollar shot and beer special =)
(5)Ian J.
Good atmosphere. There's a pool table and interesting classroom seats by the windows. Buttermilk has an acceptable beer list, but nothing far fetched or outstanding. It's a nice place to hang out. They do have a good happy hour special at the moment, $3 beer until 8 or 9, not sure which. Kind of hard to beat these days. Unfortunately having beer that's gone flat, or sour due to bad tap lines, is quite upsetting to beer snobs such as myself.
(3)Patrick O.
Super coolest ultra mixologist Jess is the Best!!
(4)Ted M.
The best place to get sloppy drunk, have fun and make friends in South Slope. The $6 High Life and Evan Williams shot deal has never steered me wrong.
(5)Sashi K.
I like this place! its divey and laid back and cheap and easy. also, their happy hour goes on till 9, so thats cool too.
(4)l w.
seats, a bar, beer, booze. If you are looking for anything more complicated than that just move along.
(3)Charles F.
Buttermilk have inexplicably swapped out their sewage green front for a hideous Pizza Hut / brothel look. The interior is still the same though. As much as I appreciate the cheap drinks, I think I've gotten a little bit long in the tooth for lining up at the bar with various degenerates and underage drinkers hitting on the scantily clad bartenders. I'd advise you to steer clear of anything on tap - the lines are so neglected that any draft will taste like it's directly tapped to the Gowanus canal. The girls working the bar are friendly and pour generously and pretentiousness is kept to a minimum.
(3)Darrin T.
Fun bar! Pool table, air hockey (my fav), Galaga/Ms. Pac-Man, good music, cheap drinks, and Jaime the bartender is awesome!
(4)Paul E.
Cool bar, good music and cheap beer but while the Guinness may only be $4 during happy hour it's best avoided. Perhaps the worst pint of it I've had. You can almost taste the uncleaned beer lines. No complaints about the other beers on tap.
(3)Maddie O.
Had a great time here the other night! There are plenty of tables and a good selection of board games. We ended up inventing a version of "President" that used dice instead of cards. In our excited state we broke the little cup that held the dice, but the bartender was very sweet and understanding about it. The beers were reasonably priced, the atmosphere was dark and divey. I would love to come back for their happy hour until 9pm! Such a rarity in the slope!
(4)Murph T.
some days i wanna give this bar a 1/5 others a 5/5. it's a true dive. lots of games, cheap beer, always a few drunks stumbling around hitting on girls, dark, rowdy, bar tenders that hook it up if you stay a while. its not a place to bring a date or to feel better about yourself, but quiet often i find myself there wondering where my life is going.
(3)J F.
Just a great place!

I went to Buttermilk last night with a friend of mine who I hadn't seen in several years. We caught up over beers, as people tend to do at that place. She then decides that she wants a martini. My initial thought was "this isn't really a martini bar, but hey, sometimes the booze wants you and there's not much you can do to help it." She then asks me "What kind of martinis do they have?" I pause, think for a second and reply "Uhh vodka, gin...". And she says no no, like do they have strawberry martinis or chocolate martinis? Despite her growing up in Staten Island, it became clear that her current Jersey roots were showing. I pointed towards some flavored Stoli they had, but that didn't work either, so she summoned the too cute for her own good bartender over. "What kinds of martinis do you have?" she inquired again... "We have gin, and vodka." She shakes her head and tries to describe what she wants. The bartender thinks about it, and ends up chilling a martini glass, rubbing a lemon peel on the inside, splashing some vermouth and giving her a gin martini. The result? Not favorable. Oh well. At least it was well mixed drink. I continued with my Brooklyn Lager and laughed. I guess that's kind of a long-winded way of saying this is a pretty simple bar. Get beer, get shots of Jager or vodka. Leave the cocktailcrafting to Sidecar, across the street. Oh yeah, and despite several patrons loving the Guiness on tap, I had to deduct points for them pouring a sloppy pint of it. Everything else though, spot on.
(4)Nicholas E.
I randomly popped in there one night when I was walking through the hood and it was amazing. Friendly staff great drinks fun crowd. I will definitally be back. They had kareoke. I loved it!!!!! And the bartender was super hot.
(5)Kathryn A.
Pros: Great bartenders! (sometimes overly friendly) They don'y serve food, but allow you to bring in outside food, which is awesome! Dog friendly! Good selection of beer, wine and liquor-plus drink specials Big Buck Hunter Pool Table Cons: Bathrooms can be kind of gross The booths in the back are falling apart in some places
(4)Patience H.
Fantastic bar - I'm ashamed it's taken me this long to go! The happy hour alone is worth becoming a fan. 6-9 nightly through the week sees well, bottles & tap down to only $3. Then to drive the satisfaction home the bartender was lovely and the whole atmosphere was relaxed and a little grungy. If yu live in South Slope, this is your new watering hole.
(4)anni b.
I used to frequent this place when I was in Park Slope a lot. Now that I'm not, it was nice to go back and see that it hasn't changed much. Even tho the neighborhood has cleaned up (not always in a good way), the bar retains it's homey grit. Loud punk music at 6pm, cool tattooed bartender chick, good beers on tap, good happy hour - I've missed this place. Would love any excuse to go back. Not great for business meetings though. It's a little loud for that. But appropriately loud for drinkin.' Which is normally why you would go to a bar. So - there ya go.
(4)My Pet Yeti R.
A little on the hipster side but these days... what isn't? I was there on a wednesday, I think. It wasn't too crowded. I bought some colbeers when I was there (it was a while back) and after every couple, the bar tenders would give me one on the house... maybe because I was talking to them, maybe it was to shut me up... I dunno. I'd go back and I did.
(4)Leana L.
Excellent service from the bar and cheap beer during happy hour. Love the open space although it wasn't that crowded on a Friday night. What else is there to say?
(4)Becki K.
the perfect divey neighborhood bar. lots of games, cheap drinks, friendly bartender playing great music (lots of shuggie otis and al greene and otis redding last time i was there). if you enjoy that sort of thing, this is the ideal place to hang out. draft lines are grungy sometimes--stick with bottled beer and liquor and you'll be fine. they have a $5 high life and whiskey shot (actually a pretty generous pour in a real glass) special most of the time. a couple nice single malts too. it's really nice during the week when it's quiet and you can chat with the few other patrons and play big buck hunter. my only gripe is that there's no outdoor area, which is pretty common in this neighborhood. if i lived closer, i would be here every night.
(5)Shannon L.
I'm adding a little more love to Buttermilk. Yesterday, I discovered my boyfriend has been cheating on me. Last night, my friends dragged me to Buttermilk to drown my sorrows in sweet beer. The bartender, upon hearing of my plight, not only concocted me a delicious shot (on her) but offered to have him "injured." She ROCKS. It also helped that I loved every single song that come on over the juke. For a few hours, I forgot my misery and had a blast. Then I came home and drunk dialed an ex.
(5)Andy H.
This bar was named after the Buttermilk Channel between Red Hook and Governor's Island. Ok now that that I taught you something...lets get to the good stuff... cheap booze! This dive in South Slope is perfect for the people that love a real "man's man" kind of hang out. Great music, cheap beer and the perfect atmosphere to just get messy drunk. The bar has a good selection of local beers and microbrews on tap along with a stack of board games like Life, Monopoly and Guess Who? If you like alternative country music, then stop in here on the last Thursday of the month for the CasHank Hoontenanny Jamboree! Yee haw!
(4)Doc Z.
Way not a dive bar ! This place is a shit hole! The place is dark as a cave and about as welcoming. The bathrooms look and smell like shit / piss if you can fight your way past the loud and drunk A-holes playing buck hunter. call your drink order in and hour before you want it becomes most of the staff cant take the time to give a shit about service. Do not go there alone, you will stay that way all night. There was one good thing about this place The Cash-hanks music night, but that is no more so save the your self a bad night and go across the street or down the road and get some good beer with great people in a nice spot. I here that the guy that owns this place has two others that suck just as bad. The BIZ plan here is "get place, open door, get tables and chairs from street on trash night, Hire crappy staff, sell warm beer from dirty taps, bank cash"
(1)Steph D.
Used to be my go-to neighborhood bar, great jukebox! However, its like someone flipped a switch here and now its packed with some really annoying people. Plus, someone should remind the bartenders that "working" doesn't mean hanging out with your friends. My friend had to walk to the other end of the bar after we had been sitting with empty glasses for about 15 minutes to ask the bartender for refills. She stomped over to us, grabbed my friends glass, stomped over to the taps and poured him a Guinness... my friend was not drinking Guiness. Later for Buttermilk...
(1)Kilgore T.
The happy hour kicks ass. I don't give a shit about ambience when I can get $3 drafts
(4)Andrew N.
Great chill little dive that has skee-ball and a pool table.
(4)David C.
Excellent, excellent neighborhood bar. Mellow, good music, skee ball, galaga, pool, buck hunter, great happy hour that lasts late...only suffers from spotty service and a smallish booze selection, but that's not why you're coming to a place like this anyway.
(4)Ian M.
The service is over the top, the beer is cold, buybacks to be had, no televisions, buck hunter and pool and GALAGA sit-down (what??) If they like you enough, they may let you play your own tunes. Every now and then you may experience a 'not-so-clean' tapline...but if what you are looking for is a bar with clean bathrooms, taplines and furniture--maybe you should not go into a place with rotting wood, peeling paint and no sign on the outside.
(5)Danny O.
I was more than pleased with this upscale *cough* establishment, which my roommate has nicknamed buttertits. Not entirely sure why, but it seems oddly appropriate. This total dive is a nice escape from...well...other total dives on 5th Ave. in Park Slope. My drink was strong and pretty cheap. I went with Ms. Caitlin O who seemed to have a bit of a problem ordering "fancy" drinks - like a Tom Collins. I suggest, just keep it simple - two ingredients max or just order a beer. The decor is uhhh rustic, but cute. I was also digging the vintage school desks. People seemed relatively chill and not too bro-esque, which was appreciated.
(4)Pat J.
Used to be one of the greats, especially on Halloween. It now smells like urine and has flat/undrinkable beers on tap. The crowd is really creepy too. Definitely skip Sunday night when pizza is free because the uber shady show up for the free grub. I love dive bars, including Welcome to the Johnsons and Great Lakes Bar but this place is just gross all around (at least the very expensive drafts could be good). We couldn't even finish our beers, that cost $14! Gross! I miss the former mgmt.
(2)Heather D.
I remember when Buttermilk was an awesome little bar where I could go with friends to hear some Misfits and drink reasonably priced pints. I hadn't been in a while & boy has it changed! Last time I went in some weird horrible dancy crap ala C&C Music Factory was playing, I almost choked on the heavy cologne stench in the air, multiple dudes had popped collars, and the bartenders looked like Coyote Ugly. Won't be back for a while.
(2)Vicki R.
Went here last night for a couple. The well-inked barmaid was really sweet. Two drafts 10 bucks? Meh. Though I noticed when cleaning glasses she was very thorougly checking each one, which I always appreciate in a dive. The saved napkin art on the wall is a cute touch. Good music, not crowded, chill people. My kind of place.
(4)Gina C.
This is my neighborhood bar on weekdays. I love sitting on a bar stool with a $3 Yuengling and a notebook or crossword puzzle. There's lots of seating, cheap beer, a jukebox and BUCKHUNTER which, if you've read my other reviews you know that that is pretty much all I require. Oh, big selling point, when you come here alone people are willing to talk with you, but only once or twice has someone tried to talk to me without me initiating it first. That includes the bartenders too. I'm a fan.
(4)Margarita V.
On the phone, after a few drinks with my roommate at this bar: "We went out to this really cool local place. Butter-something. Not Buttercup, not Butterfield, Butter... Butter... I don't remember, but the Stoli-Vanil-and-ginger-ales were yummy and only $6! I think I'm a little tipsy. We should go sometimes. Butter...damn, why can't I remember the name? At least I know where it is. We should go!"
(4)Carli V.
Super chill, casual bar. Great happy hour. Spent many a drunken evenings at Buttermilk. It's a win.
(4)Nicole B.
I cannot say enough good things about this bar! On a random Friday my roommate and I were walking around 5th avenue too late for happy hour looking for some drinks. Then we saw the sign "Happy Hour 6-9" this is amazing for those of us that don't get off work until 6 and usually miss happy hour. Once inside we enjoyed good music, cheap drinks, and great service. This has become our normal hang out and we have never had a bad time here. Very cool eclectic crowd and a great place to meet for a quick drink or to stay all night.
(5)scott s.
Good Rock Bar With a good staff and friendly atmosphere. I would go here anytime and I do.
(4)Peter A.
What an awesome bar that gives no shit and takes none either. Great bar, no trendy people here, but those who are true to themselves. Bartenders are friendly, but are wise to drunkards who show no respect. Give a little love and receive a lot of booze in exchange. This is my lil' watering hole, so wipe your feet upon entering.
(4)Megan P.
Cheap drinks and a quick walk to the subway made this place a great start for a friend's annual Santa-Hat Pub Crawl. I got here late and didn't get to hang out much more than the time it took me to down my first beer. Drinks were cheap and poured by a nice bartender... only downside - they had no orange for my blue moon. Bartender offered me a lemon instead, and really, it's NOT the same. Overall, nothing special, but not a bad place to grab a quick brew.
(3)Abigail S.
Love this bar. This is the place to go after a party. The drinks are strong and inexpensive and the bartenders are fast. It's loud but you can still hear people across the table from you. Yeah, there are tables. Lots of them. The lighting is dim but not too dark and there are candles everywhere. Love the music on the jukebox--it's a good mix, as others have said. The location is slightly off the beaten path, which is cool because it keeps things real and unpretentious and you're likely to get a seat. I wish Union Hall had the same crowd. Buttermilk reminds me a lot of Fresh Salt, which is my favorite neighborhood bar in Manhattan. Add this to the list of reasons to look forward to moving to Brooklyn.
(5)morecawfee M.
Buttermilk is a longtime fav. I was especially fond of their Atari nights (Journey: The Escape! Run Steve run!), though I haven't seen those nights around in a while. Big Buck Hunter always serves in a pinch, anyway. I was back here last night for CashHank. Sometimes this is a hit or miss event, but last night was great. And the duo who opened -- wish I would've gotten their names -- were all kinds of awesome.
(4)Flint W.
Buttermilk is great. I love dive bars. Buttermilk has the best juke box in the neighborhood. You can always find a place to sit down. The music is a bit too loud, but most bars have that problem.
(4)Victor L.
Cheap pints (everything here is 4 DOLLARS with the exception of maybe Guinness but don't quote me on that), great jukeboxes full of mixes which is a change of pace. Somewhat attempt at retro design, the exposed brick walls, the crowd here is incredibly relaxed, maybe too mellow for my taste sometimes, but its a great place to go and never disappoints. There's a shady back couch area which I never go to because it's well shady and dark. Oh, and before I forget, it's got an almost all mix jukebox, similar to Boat Bar. And it's dog friendly, which you'll see a couple here and there. Along the front blinded window there are old schooldesk (chair attached to desk that comes out over seat). Pretty rad.
(4)Jackie W.
I don't know what people are expecting from a dive bar?! The place is pretty much a shit hole, but that's how I like my drinking establishments. Dark. Creepy. Decent music. Off nights when it's not crowded. Dive bars are typically places of ill repute (thanks Wikipedia) and aside from the fact that there are no hookers there that I know of... the bartenders are friendly... the only thing missing is their old photo booth.
(4)Ron C.
Really good, chill mode feel. They have an awesome Arcade game where you hunt wild animals. It's really fun when you have a few beers in you. They have nice funky chairs. If you go towards the back there is a kinda "mellow" area that's a little for quiet and romantic.... I don't know if you wanna take your date there to be romantic, it's a dive bar. It's good for groups and to relax and have fun,
(3)Sam S.
I found this place by accident, and what an accident!!! If you like "dive" bars, then this place fits the bill just fine. The only sign for the bar is a strip of paper a little over waist height with Buttermilk handwritten across it. Can't go wrong there... Speaking of bills, the extended happy hour from 6-9 including three dollar drafts (including my personal favorite, Guiness!), bottles and wells is a perfect fit for anyone's budget. Though the bartenders (very cute, by the way) need to be educated on how to poor a good Guiness. It takes time people! This place serves as my first and last stop on nights out. Give it a whirl if you're in the area!
(5)Viki S.
I've always been a semi-fan of Buttermilk, especially on Wednesdays for the free pizza after 10, the stiff drink and the decent music the jukebox/bartender's iPod selects. My boyfriend informed me one night he wasn't a fan, he couldn't put his finger on why, he just said there was something that he didn't like about the place. After an experience with the bartender who was rude and condescending for no reason to me, but super nice and gave buy backs to my male friend... I have to agree with him and realized Buttermilk is just another shitty dive bar with surly bartenders. I'd rather head down the street to the Commonwealth. At least the bathrooms are clean, they serve drinks in pint glasses for the same prices and the jukebox is just as good, if not better.

I really love this bar. I always have a good time here. the bartenders are cool as hell.

My pal Nat and I were seated front and center the night Buttermilk opened -- Tony sloshing us more buy backs than buys. Back then, the neighborhood's only real bar was Timboo's, and folks of our ilk, though saving on the rent and shopping at the $.99 stores in what they called 'South Slope', were desperate for just this sort of drinker's oasis. This joint has for the most part held its promise of a decent refuge for the indie alt set to slurp cheap beers and hear rock made back in that mighty musical era just before the mad rush of the digital age. Though I've migrated north to 'the Ratner Zone' in recent years, I still manage to hit the 'Milk for the occasional blurry-eyed late night drinks with the old crew, if only to serve as a gentle reminder that gentrification may be the only force that seemingly progresses faster than time itself. That's a feeling far more priceless than a free slice. 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', indeed.

Where the hell do I get off not reviewing this place? Oh, I remember you, fine friend Buttermilk all those years ago when you opened when there was nothing else on this stretch of 5th avenue except Smolen's way up there. I remember always going to Great Lakes and then being so so happy that something was closer and I didn't have to walk what seemed like 5 miles back to my friends' apartment way up on 21st st. You have a jukebox and seats and games and lots and lots of alcohol. You are dark and dirty just like I like you. I love your booths in the back. I love that any night of the week, the hardcore kids are out partaking in your whiskeys. You always have great bartenders who are funny and find me funny ordering wine. I was once asked "you know this is a DIVE bar, yes?" as the bartender proceeded to take his dirty towel, wrap it around the bottle, and pour me a glass of crappy merlot as properly as one could on such a sticky bar. Gotta love it.

being only in brooklyn for 3 days at the time, i was invited to a party. between trying to figure out how to get there (car service) and what to wear (what i wore all day) i neglected to find the closest liquor store that sold more than 40's. the bartender at buttermilk was nice enough to sell me two bottles of wine for $20. sold. i plan on coming back when i am not in a frenzy to get someplace else.

Great music and a relaxing place to hangout. Friendly locals, decent prices and good bar service.

Waa! I realize this is a dive, but don't order a cocktail. I ordered my standard tom collins (really, i just expected some sour mix and gin) and received a completely confused look from the bartender, followed by some bullshit excuse about how they "don't have stuff for that." Super chill though. I liked the vintage school desks.

Another bar that proves that Brooklyn is where it's at. Relaxed atmosphere on weeknights with great beer prices. As others mentioned here, it does get crazy on the week-ends, but in a fun way.

I went here yesterday with a friend to fill out the middle of a long day of lazy drinking. We were the only ones in there and the bartender happily served us $3 Brooklyn lagers (cheap!) and then asked us behind the bar to help feed the tape through the cash register. It only got better when a 50 year old in a hawaiian shirt who had been "nursing a buzz since 11" and justified a $10 glass of Basil Hayden's by saying he "wasn't going to ruin it with cheap liquor now" came in and gave us babbling life advice while shooting video animals on the BIG GAME HUNTER next to the bar. Place rules.

people here seemed pretty friendly, which would have been weird otherwise, since it was almost empty on a Thursday night (there from 10-1230). $5 yuengling, comfy bar seats, $6 vespers - which I was told was only a "half" martini (gin, vodka, tonic, lemon, vermouth... real martinis are made with gin, not this vodka $h!+). That was good to hear, as the bartender was a man after my own heart. its actually quite spacious with seats in the back by the bathroom and a wide open area in front of the bar. Someone came in with their dogs and it was totally ok (brownie points to me!). Most of the light is that of the candle variety, though I would hesitate to bring a date here unless you had been going at it for awhile. Bathrooms are done up graffiti style, for better or worse. Parking is super easy around here. Not sure if I'll be back, but its a cool place to have a drink, unwind without a TV, and finish up a sudoku or what have you.

It always seems like it's happy hour here. The prices are rather low for NYC and the service is great. After a couple of drinks the bartender will buy you one. And you can bring in food from any of the local vendors (they have a folder filled with menus). If you go during the week it's relatively empty; but I've passed by on weekends and sometimes it looks completely packed.

If you love dive bars...this one is a keeper. Relaxing atmosphere, pretty good music. Cheap prices. Variety of people. I'd definitely go back.

Part of the Great Lakes/Boat group, this is a little bit more of that in the south slope but kind of has a little bit less of those places vibes. Which is a good thing. So yeah, it's got a good jukebox of well informed classic indie and new sounds, some board and social games, some cheap drinks, some expensive drinks, and a general bar vibe with a more secluded back area. I'd probably come here a lot if it had a pool table or lived on the block.

In order to decorate buttermilk, the owner must have gone to the local antique shop/junkyard and gathered all the tables/chairs/school desks (s)he could find. Then, they organized them in the bar. And it sort of works. I mean, at least there's plenty of room to sit. Apparently, (s)he couldn't find a sign that said "buttermilk" to post outside. It certainly is another "dive" bar on the 5th ave "dive" bar circuit. My favorite night at buttermilk was when we were 5th-ave bar jumping and stopped at buttermilk as our last stop. There just happened to be some crazy-ass folk band playing all sorts of music late into the night. (see picture above),. It was really special. I wish I knew when their live music was.

An outstanding beery outpost for hipsters on the fringe of Park Slope. Four distinct ambiances to suit different moods: - bar for introspection - main floor for groupings of friends - elevated seating for one-on-one conversation - back hallway for intimate arrangements Good selection of beer (with Six Points on tap they've got my business), effusive bartenders, vivacious clientele. Good jukebox and cozy decor. Killer happy hour (3 dollar pints/bottles/wells). Sure it's a cultivated "look" they've developed but it comes off as authentic and the architecture of the place instills an abiding sense of ease and comfort. They were also really cool in letting me have a 50+ guest birthday party under their roof. I supplied the food (kielbasa from the outstanding Jubilat Provisions), they supplied the booze (giving me free beer all night) and a big table to put all my fixin's. No hassles and something simple that generated a lot of good will (and a lot of future business). Thanks for being in the neighborhood, Buttermilk. I look forward to many more an evening with you.

Buttermilk. I've only been here about two or three times, but each time it was sweet. I recall a DJ one night spinning classic funk/soul 7" records. He played some great stuff and created a nice vibe for the night. I think they have an arcade game too that I couldn't stop playing. Terminator 2 maybe? I forget. This joint does get crowded on the weekends which is to be expected. Good crowd, friendly atmosphere, and cheap drinks. Definitely give this one a shot if you're hanging in Park Slope.

It's my neighborhood bar. I feel at home there. How can I not, when the bartenders know what I drink and one of them has, on occasion, had comic book TPBs behind the bar he offered up for in-bar reading? Long happy hour, usually followed up by a nightly drink specials. The atmosphere is simple without being cheap, and the music is good, both from the jukebox and the bartenders. Especially love the two tone ska that comes on the playlists frequently.

An ideal hangout bar with a comfortable, retro feel. It's a great space with a very good jukebox and lots of tables. I went here on a rainy Saturday night so it was not too crowded, but I can see how it could get mobbed. If it wasn't such a schlep from my house, I'd be here all the time.

A great place to relax with friends! This is an incredible neighborhood bar that sports a great jukebox, plenty of space, and friendly folks.

After having dinner at Babouche, we treked way south to stop by Buttermilk. My lady friend lives nearby and they have Buckhunter. Yes, Buckhunter the game where you use the red/green guns and shoot bucks. Love it. So much better when you've had a few Bud Lights. With the exception of Buckhunter, this is a no frills bar that dishes the right stuff - cheap to extremely affordable beer. Happy hour runs from 6PM to 9PM and includes $3 bottles and drafts. Plenty of Bud Lights, chilled, a good selection of drafts - Sierra, 6 Point, Guinness, etc. The bartender (w/ the tats) can make a pretty mean Black and Tan if thats your thing. Seating is plentiful, the crowd is low-key, one big dirty bathroom for all to enjoy. There is good bar seating, but the rear has a few couches to make-out in. They have a juke box but it plays low. They could stand to bump up the volume but this is your neighborhood bar and I like it just the way it is. I'd return to this bar if I was visiting my friend but because I live in the West of Chelsea, Buttermilk would not be the leading driver of a visit. I can't comment on the quality of the surrounding area, but we had great pizza afterwards and I saw a bunch of places that sold burritos. Hmmm. Not so much the hipster crowd you see in Wburg. Dude, I really dont care what crowd is like as long as a I get my Bud Lights.

The second bar opened in Park Slope by the owners of Great Lakes, Buttermilk retains the same indie rock feel as its predecessor, but adds good lighting, large windows, and good ventilation to the mix. Located a bit out of the way down 5th Ave, Buttermilk is nonetheless frequently packed with indie rock kids, glad to have a bar with a good jukebox, strong drinks, and a lot of tables to gather around. Good for large groups if you can get one of the big tables. Buttermilk also has free pizza on Wednesday nights at 10.

Oh Buttermilk...how I love thee. Weekends can get a little crazy at times its true but its great going on a weeknight early, having a few pints and ordering in from their extensive takeout menues. Good happy hour and friendly bartenders. And I don't even have to leave Brooklyn. yay :)

A good bar for a big group, but Friday and Saturday nights can be a zoo. For a mellower evening try Commonwealth up the street.
