we here for late breakfast. its pretty much what i would cook if i was home and not lazy to cook myself. ramonas IS NOT pricey - esp if you consider the ingredients were fresh, nothing was prefrozen/precooked and they dont kick you out if u sit around. i cant speak for anything other than breakfast, but i enjoyed it and so did my two friends.

Delicious, great value, cozy atmosphere, very welcoming and accommodating chef/waitress (who was quite likely the owner), eclectic and thoughtful decor. I visited while in search of breakfast with a friend on a weekday, mid-morning. We both ordered the "Lark Street Scramble", which she told us was her own creation with 3 eggs scrambled with sausage, potatoes, lots of various veggies (including broccoli, peppers, and onions), and featuring a red sauce (it was a little spicy, a little tangy, and a LOT of amazing) that she makes herself. The scrambles came with home fries which were delicious, and toast. She was happy to substitute slices of tomato for the toast when I asked, and she was also happy to add brussel sprouts to my scramble. (One of the advertised omelets is a brussel spout, ham and cheese omelet - the unusual ingredient intrigued me and was part of why we decided to try Ramona's.) We also each enjoyed a side of bacon, juice, and tea / coffee. Our total bill was just over $20, which seems like a fantastic deal for everything we ordered! Especially given how tasty everything was. The decor is very interesting and fun to look at - lots of art of various styles on the walls (and ceiling!) and there were several people gathered at a table solving crosswords together, which added to the cozy hometown feel. As another reviewer mentioned, the dining area is small, so it would be trickier with a larger group - but tables could be pushed together or you could carry out and enjoy a picnic at nearby Washington Park. Ramona's sign indicates breakfast is available anytime the place is open; there was also a lunch menu which included burgers, sandwiches, and wraps. The sign advertises they are closed on Mon and Tue; on Wed, Thur, Fri open 10-3; on Sat and Sun they open at 9 (no weekend closing time was indicated, but I forgot to ask when they close on those days - or if they're open all night on weekends like nearby Cafe 217). I didn't take any pictures because the photos already posted on yelp are a great representation of the restaurant and the food. Definitely treat yourself sometime to a delicious meal at Ramona's, and plan to linger and soak in the atmosphere!

Service wasn't bad but the overall vibe was incredibly odd. Over heard the waitress talking about hanging out with friends and locking Ramona's and getting drunk, as we were leaving gentleman walked in with alcohol. I asked for sunny side up eggs and was told "Ramona will make them how she likes" they came out over easy. Pancakes tasted like undercooked store bought box mix.

When I first walked into this tiny underground restaurants (about the size of my living room) I was frankly a bit taken aback by the decor. I initially thought that I was walking into a dark, sketchy bar, but seeing all of the tie-dye and 60's throwback memorabilia, it was clear that this was something much more. Our order was taken by a man with hair that went down past his shoulders, whose tie-dye Bufallo Bills shirt matched the ambience of the diner. It seemed like this man was the waiter, cashier, and cook! I ordered the tuna melt and my friend got eggs and toast. All of the food was fairly decent (typical diner food), but it was definitely worth the experience (and low prices). Make sure you go on a day that isn't too hot, because there didn't seem to be any AC, but if you're into a divey 60's throwback brunch, then Ramona's is definitely worth a try.

True farm to table. Owner is quirky but food is really worth it. Incredibly fresh and very worth it. Maybe best breakfast wrap of my life

In the history of my Yelping career, I have only given one other restaurant a FIVE start review. It is rare that I do because it must meet my expectation for quality of food, service and price. Here at Ramona's, all my expectations were met. This hold in the wall is quite invisible to the average person. Inside, it a very small dining space with two tables for 4, and about 5 tables for 3. It had a very relaxing, homey feeling. It was Sunday afternoon, about 1pm. I ordered the House Meat Lover's omelette with a side of corn beef hash brown, $5.50. My girlfriend had the blueberry french toasts, $5.00. Our waitress was really friendly--I believe she may have been part owner. She was generous and was very excited to tell us about ramps (you should Google it). She brought over an actual plant and gave us the Ramp 101 course. She started talking about the possible use of ramps in pharmaceuticals which was ironic because were were all pharmacy students and were currently learning about herbals and alternative medicine. Anyways, back to the food. My omelette came with extra bacon, the thick cut. It was a three egg omelette filled with sausage, bacon and ham. Unlike most places that fluff their omelette with milk or cream, my omelette didn't seem like it had the extra fluff, which I really liked. It was delicious. The corn beef hash were decent, but not something to rave about. The blueberry french toast was great. It wasn't the thick cut toast--probably about a half inch cut. Surprisingly, it had the perfect density. The two that ordered it described it as an 8/10 and was one of the better french toasts they have had. For 4 people, our bill came to $29.43. Excellent price if you asked me!

Historic Ramona's is a friendly place where everything is made to order. Eggs and omelets certainly fit the bill, but burgers and sandwiches satisfy. No fries? Have the potato salad, which is made to order, and is a textural marvel, all smooth and chunky and just right. Ramona herself still stands guard over this eclectic treasure, welcoming new guests like old friends, fetching beverages and slaving over the cooktop. Pull up a chair, set a spell and soak up the atmosphere of 60s and 70s vibe, replete with psychedelic posters and light fixtures. Very much the den of the earth mother serving up comfort food on Lark St.

On a family vacation we stopped in here for lunch one day. The step-daughter is a bit picky, so this place appealed to her for the cheeseburger option on the menu. We came into this funky, hippie cafe along Lark St. The seating is limited, but we snagged a table for 3. We decided to order lunch since it was early afternoon. I think the waitress was confused by us all ordering off their lunch menu and definitely did not seem very familiar with what they had. Their drinks are all bottled or canned. The lunches don't come with a side, you have to add those on separately. I opted for a wrap. It was decent, but nothing impressive. It tasted like fairly generic chicken slices and a bottled sauce. I ordered a buffalo chicken and I'm quite certain it was BBQ instead. The step-daughter had a cheeseburger, which was an easy please for her. Her waffle fries were ok. The husband got a Jack Daniels burger. We both expected something much different than just a bit of BBQ sauce thrown on the burger. The quality of meat was not very good and neither of us were impressed at all with the burger. The husband ordered onion rings, which they were out of since they couldn't find the freezer bag (we heard the kitchen shouting and looking for it). Overall, the service was mostly friendly, but the lunch food was extremely disappointing. Maybe the breakfast food would have gone better, since it seemed more their specialty, but I wouldn't suggest it for lunch. The vibe is cool, but doesn't make up for the lack of good food.

Bad service, not open during the times advertised. This is despite the fact that business hours are clearly posted and that their "Open" sign was proudly lit for some reason. Two other hungry gentlemen happened to show up at the same time and were just as disappointed as I was. I drove by half an hour later and they were still closed/totally dark, all except for their neon "Open" sign.

Solid divey funky subterranean breakfast joint. I wouldn't seek it out per se, but if I were in the area and looking for breakfast, it's a cozy spot to warm up from the inside out. That is, If they have an open table. And if you don't mind a little TV in the background. Just don't expect it to be too clean. It is what it is, and on some level you have to respect that.

Great little breakfast spot if you want to stay within the Lark Street area. The Lark St. Scramble looked smaller than it really was; it was actually the perfect portion. Cool artsy atmosphere. Everything was delicious. Especially the homefries. Also, breakfast wrap will HELP appease severe cravings for breakfast burritos. But I'm a Californian still looking for his breakfast burrito. Any suggestions?

Eh. Cute idea, but you absolutely feel as though you're in a sketchy basement. The food is okay if you can tolerate the atmosphere, which comes complete with the smell of a greasy spoon on your clothes for the rest of the day.

You get a pretty good helping of food for a decent price. The atmosphere is cozy with a down-home feel. The service is personal and quick. Nice lil diner.

Despite living in Center Square for the past few years, I'd never been here until today (ironically, after I moved out of the neighborhood due to high prices and lack of parking.) It was beautiful today so I decided to walk somewhere for breakfast from where I was over by the Spectrum. I picked up a newspaper and ended up here, and found a few tables open. I The good: I liked the multicolor walls and the slight hippie vibe, as well as the lack of pretension. I decided to go for the turkey and veggie omelet, just because it seemed like a combo I'd never had. With a little extra cheese (for 25 cents more,) it was pretty delicious, although a little under-seasoned. The not-so-good: It was very unclear whether you were supposed to order at the counter or not. A waiter took my order and brought my food, but then never refilled my coffee. I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to re-fill my own coffee from one of the carafes up at the counter or not. The waiter probably should have mentioned that. And the coffee was really "just water dressed in brown," to quote a song. Also, this the only place I've ever been for breakfast where they charge an extra 75 cents for a small portion of home fries with your omelet. The bottom line: My omelet was only $4.75 so I can't really complain too much about the home fries. It's a nice little neighborhood-y joint, with plenty of newspapers and a friendly staff.

Love this place for breakfast! The Lark Scrabble is always a favorite. Good coffee, great atmosphere.

Ramona's is one of the gems of Lark St. Her pancakes are dynamite. She really cares that everyone enjoys her food & it shows. That's what make a diner great in my opinion.

I am changing my review on ramanos. I have been going there on and off for not really sure how long but from what I have seen and tasted , Ramonas by far has the best tasting breakfast anywhere have eating in places in schnectady and downtown Albany and even some place in jersey. To me nothing could beat the pancakes and hash browns and sausage that I had today and the newly improved comfortable seating was and added plus. If you want the best you have to show up and experience I highly recommend this place

Even though it was sweltering inside (and outside) the afternoon we came here, and on top of that, my chili dogs were burn-your-mouth-hot when they came out... that's okay, because the food was worth it. My meal hit the spot and my two chili dogs came with a big pile of nicely seasoned, spicy potato wedges. It was a ton of food... and I ate the whole thing. It was almost empty when we came in for our late lunch at 2, but slowly the regulars started filtering in. Nice, relaxed atmosphere and I get the impression that it's a family run place. Coming back here for breakfast when it's cooler outside!

Great "homestyle" breakfast, sandwiches and wraps here - i recommend you check it out. The owner and staff if very friendly - it's like sitting in your friend's mom's kitchen

Great breakfast food and the best bang for your buck that you can get around the Lark Street area.

For all the people that are out there wishing that there could be just one restaurant that serves good food in reasonably sized portions for less money, rather than gargantuan portions for a lot of money, you need look no further than Ramona's. Appearance-wise this cafe is cute and hipster-y. They seem to hold the internet in contempt, as they have no website or profiles on any review websites. We ate brunch here on a Friday: $4.50 for three fluffy blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup, $1.75 for two slices of bacon, $1.25 for a cup of coffee with free refills, $7 for a hamburger melt with fries. The service was friendly, if a bit lackadaisical, but the food was delicious, and I would highly recommend it. The only reason I don't give it five stars is the coffee was not very strong, and we had to wait about 15 minutes for our check while the waitress helped the only other staff member, the cook (Ramona?) get the other party's meal together. But if you want great, not overwhelming portions for a reasonable price, Ramona's is perfect.

Had Ramona's breakfast for the fist time today and have to say it was a good meal for the price and would make a great hangover meal. The dinning area is rather small so you may have to wait or order to go (as I did). The atmoshere is nice and the staff is friendly so if your looking for someone to cook for you on the cheap I'd recommend it. The drawbacks are the small space, no outdoor seating and meat and veggies are cooked on the same tiny grill. There also aren't many vegetarian options for lunch or dinner.
