My friends and I were in the mood for some delicious food on a Friday night after a long tiring week at school. After going through our usual list of cuisines, we ended up at Greek food. Ugh, not again, we all thought. Why, you ask, did a cloud of sorrow drift over our heads? Because it's hard to find good Greek food, goshdammit! Aren't you tired of eating a boring plate of dry gyros and stale pita bread? Let's give it one last chance, I said. And so I found Akropolis. We arrived at 8 for our dinner reservation, which really wasn't necessary. There were a handful of free tables. We walked into what looked like a nice mid-sized restaurant you'd find in the middle of Europe. The ambience was nice, not too quiet, not too loud. I'd say the place was 70-80% packed on this Friday night. The friendly hostess seated us at nice, large round table despite the fact there was only 4 of us. So kind! And then the complimentary appetizers arrived. Here came some WARM, delicious pita bread. I am not kidding, this was one of the best pita bread I have ever eaten at a Greek restaurant, slightly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Oh and did I mention - they was still WARM. And you might be wondering - okay and how was the rinky dinky hummus that came with it? Oh no. Akropolis is too good for that. They brought us a delicious chickpea salad made with olive oil, vinegar, and a few Greek garnishes. Needless to say, it was DELICIOUS, if not even better when eaten with the pita bread. My rule of thumb - if the complimentary dishes at a restaurant are a success, then things are looking pretty damn good. On to the main entrees. I ordered the moussaka, a sort of Greek lasagna but not really. It's layered potatoes and ground meat, topped with a thick creamy sauce (or I should say creamy layer?). It's like a lasagna but with potatoes instead of pasta, and creamy white sauce instead of tomato sauce. Mmmm delicious! So damn good! My friend ordered his typical gyro plate. Yeah he definitely looked happy. Finally... no more dry boring gyros. Might I add his plate came with a side of home-made yogurt with cucumbers? We also ordered the mediterranean chicken plate. A delicious dish with seared chicken and a thick creamy tomato and feta cheese sauce and rice. The church bells were ringing. We are smiling and laughing. We did it! We finally found a good Greek place out here in the boonies of Long Island. Now onto the cons which are minor. The wait for the entrees took quite a while. We arrived at 8pm, ordered at maybe 8:10, and got our plates at 8:45/8:50. As I said, the place wasn't packed, so I'm not sure why it took almost 35 minutes when other comparable restaurants can bring out food much quicker. I think it was due to the fact that they get a ton of carry-out orders. No wonder - the food here is so damn good. Also the waiter took a while to get the check to us, but hey it was manageable. So if you're planning to eat here, make sure you're 1) not impatient and 2) not in a rush to eat because it'll take some time for the magic to happen. For this reason, I took off a star. Overall, highly recommended! It's now the official Greek spot for my group of friends and may be yours too.

Been eating here for probably over 2 decades. One of the few places I visit when in NY (live in California now). Their gyros are awesome, and chickpeas are the best I've ever had! I usually order Greek Salad with Chicken Souvlaki. Dressing is good, salad ingredients have always been fresh, and it's huge! Only complaint is sometimes the chicken is a little overcooked (dry and tough). And guess what, when I can't finish, the salad is even better the second day! The dressing marinates the tomatoes, lettuce, etc... and it's great! My other favorite dish is Chicken ala Patti (chunks of chicken and broccoli florets sautéed with olive oil and garlic, served over rice). Flavorful entrée with lots of garlic, but so good! Takeout is also great - same as eating in-house. Seating is comfortable, and I've always had excellent service.
(5)Robert E.
Good food and very reasonably priced. Solid service.. Only issue its a very greasy grill place which probably made the food taste even better but wreaked havoc on both of our stomachs all night.
(4)Mauricio H.
The food was OK. I ordered some Greek restaurant staples such as gyro and grilled octopus. The gyro was a generous portion, the meat was tender and flavorful, the pita bread was light and flaky, and the lettuce, tomato, onions were thinly sliced. The grilled octopus was good. It could have used a little more olive oil, but besides that, it was perfectly grilled and it had that nice charred flavor. I would have given this 2.5 stars because of the service. It was a Saturday afternoon, there were only 6 other people in the restaurant, and the service was incredibly slow. There is no reason why we have to wait 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order. I had to flag down the bus boy for a soda refill.
(3)Jackie R.
Their egg lemon soup takes me to a happy place! The grilled chicken is stellar on top of the greek salad made with happy veggies! FYI they always put the dressing on the salad if you do take out. I'm a SOS kinda girl
(5)V M.
Food is really good! Been here a dozen times. But the service is horrible. No managers around either. Wait staff runs the place however they feel that day.
(2)Marty J.
The gyros are very good, cooked perfectly. The calamari is done extremely well, probably the best of the other local restaurants. We frequent them twice a month and its always perfect.
(5)Francesca D.
Worst gyro I have ever had. Meat was dry and overlooked. It was our first time eating here so we ordered something simple. We waited over a half hour before we were served. Only two waiters for the entire dining room which was full to capacity.
(1)Sunnie B.
Our family has been coming here for years and years. Hands down the best gyros we've had on Long Island Love their tzatiki sauce and the chick peas & pita are wonderful. Service is outstanding. Wine is reasonably priced. Always ample seating Even our take out orders are always top notch. If I was to complain about something...they are closed Sundays & somehow that's the day we all crave gyros - but I guess everyone needs a day off.
(5)Tina T.
Our local Greek place, so happy with them since I moved to the area that I haven't bothered to even try other spots. Excellent hummus full of veggies, great salads ( although heavy on cheese/dressing but that's easily ordered without and they've never gotten it wrong when ordered on the side), you really can't go wrong here.
(5)Erica M.
Tasty, fresh reasonably priced and great service. Their greek salad with grilled chicken is delicious and filling. They also serve complimentary chickpeas w pita bread which I can't eat fast enough-so good! Hubby loves their falafel dinner. Portions for the dinners are LARGE, so you'll get your money's worth. Traditional greek decoration, nice and clean restaurant. Must try.
(5)Diane R.
Absolutely fantastic food. Moussaka was enough for two people. Fresh pita and chickpeas are free with dinners. Definitely recommend to a business traveler.
(5)Jane H.
Oh my goodness! At first I was sad to have to go this far out into Long Island to meet friends for dinner, but afterwards, I was pleased. A lot of Yelper's say it's the best Greek food in Long Island, and I'm pretty sure that must be true. Everything was delicious! Their pita was so fresh, and their chickpea salad that came with it was tasty. The salads have a bit too much cheese for me to enjoy, but the rest of the food was phenomenal. I had the spinach pie, which was PERFECT! Lots of spinach, cheese amount was perfect, and the dough was beautiful. The moussaka looked delicious, but I didn't get a taste of that. They cook their rice perfectly, and the falafel was loved by all at the table. Service is wonderful, and the owners were so sweet. They noticed it was the 30th birthday for one of us and gave her a rice pudding to go, on the house! That was so nice! While it's a little far for me to come out here, I would definitely come here again if I find myself out here!
(5)Christina V.
My favorite Greek food. Talk about a place that cooks with love.
(5)Pinky C.
DELICIOUS GREEK FOOD. PORTIONS ARE HUGE. Gyro was as big as my face. I wish they gave us more yogurt sauce when I had to pack it back home though... The ATHENIAN MUSHROOMS were my favorite because I LOVE spinach so much. Mushrooms had a really special taste. A bit sour/salty. Interesting. Decor was unique. Felt like I was sitting in someone's real home. BUT service was kinda slow. Even though there weren't that many customers on a quiet Tuesday night the waitress was day dreaming a lot... Complimentary pita and chickpeas! yummmy
(4)Liz K.
Food is fantastic! Prices are good. Service is a little slow but it seems that the servers also have to handle the take out counter as well. They try to hit the tables as often as possible but sometimes there are too many people coming in for take out at the same time.
(4)Marisa D.
Akropolis you somehow someway still remain to be amazing. I'm giving you a 4.5 just because I gave myself heartburn after last night's dinner. Last night I got the Chicken Souvlaki sandwich with the pita on the side and a small order of chick peas. I know I know I'm weird but I wanted to eat more chicken than pita. Plus sometimes I feel like when you order souvlaki or a gyro somewhere and it's take out its overstuffed and the pita by the time you get home it's soggy. So this was technically my first time doing this special order from Akropolis. I'm not going to lie I was a little concerned after I hung up the phone because the person who took my order seemed a little confused. I arrived at Akropolis and paid and headed home. The ride home all I was saying to myself was "this better be good... Oh I hope it's good.. PLEASE be good". I get home and I open up the bag. Alright so far so good.. it appears my yogurt sauce is on the side, pita on the side, chick peas are there, and my food is in a tin. OK here goes nothing I'm opening the tin. At this point I'm thinking I was going to open the tin seeing a mish mosh of chicken, lettuce, onion, and tomato and let me just tell you.. I WAS DEAD WRONG! Akropolis you delivered me the most beautiful surprise. Everything was in its corner respectively and neat like you wouldn't believe. One thing about me is I always eat with my eyes first before I go take my first bite. So Akropolis thank you for satisfying my craving last night. You always make such great stuff and when I mean great neat presentation I mean it! My recommendations are: - Chickpeas with Pita (usually that's like their bread basket when you eat in) - Cheese pie (Tiropita) - Spinach pie (Spanakopita) - Skordalia (make sure you share it cause your breath will be garlicky) - Greek Salad (so good) - Chicken Souvlaki - Shrimp Scampi I would love to try their Baklava and Falafel one day. One day.. when I stray away from my normal orders.

This place has been around for years. Food always consistently good. Usually a busy local spot for lunch and dinner. Wait staff very nice and attentive. Will be going here for years to come.
(4)Adina R.
My family has been coming here for years. We always order gyros and greek salad from this restaurant! The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. I LOVE their salad. I could live on Akropolis salad for forever. The gyros are large and satisfying. I usually get the Spinach Pie combo: spinach pie (generous size!), small salad, and I get the 16 ounce Lemon Egg drop soup (I love this soup, as well as the chicken orzo and beef barley soup). To be quite honest, I don't order much else on the menu. I suppose I like sticking to the basics, which are done quite well at this restaurant. I cannot speak for anything else other than what I've mentioned above. Great for takeout! If you dine in, there is complimentary pita bread and chick peas.
(5)Rick J.
The best greek food you can find. Highly recommend large potions sizes with excellent fresh quality food. Can't say enough nice things about the place. Nice atmosphere and ambiance large seating area with plenty of tables. A must visit place to eat at if you looking for quality and freshness. The best...!
(5)Kelli C.
Love this place! We probably pass 2 or 3 other Greek places on our way here, but this is our "go to" Greek place! The chick pea appetizer with hot pita bread they give you for free is so delicious. We usually get Greek Salads topped with gyro meat and it's perfect every time. We will keep coming back here for sure! Wait staff is always pleasant & accommodating.
(5)Taylor K.
I love this place! I have to say I do not usually get anything other than the gyros and greek salad, but they are SOOO GOOD. The pitas are amazing whenever I get a salad I have to order extra. French fries are great and so it the rice pudding. The staff is always so nice and quick. Great place for greek!!
(5)Donald M.
I've had takeout from here twice. Had lamb souvlaki and a salad. Good generous portions. Reasonable prices. Quick service. I liked it a lot. No complaints. Definitely ordering from them again. Give it a try. You'll like it.
(4)Linda M.
I just called and spoke with a very nice gentleman who advised me the Akropolis Greek Restaurant does not deliver.
(4)Ang A.
WHEN IT COMES TO THE BEST, COME TO THIS PLACE. DAMN!! A GREEK RESTAURANT that's an academy award winner in food, service and taste. Everything is positively drenched with cool: the OWNER, the DECOR & the SERVICE His name is LOUCAS. (the OWNER) That guy is the James Bond of customer service! He was cool, precise and spot on with answers to every detailed question to every request I had. I loved being treated as if I were a celebrity waiting to be seated! AS FOR THE JOINT: AKROPOLIS is the upper class place to dine in the Suffolk area. Some of the other restaurants are seedy, dirty glasses and pretty gross. I went to one where they served me an unwashed glass with nasty ass lipstick stains on it. If you want to know where the cool, hip, upper crust fellas go to eat: book at your reservation here at the Akropolis. One great thing besides the killer gyros, chicken soulvaki and shrimp ala Patti you can see the entire staff truly helping one another and when they approach your table there is always a smile and EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. (cap locks for emphasis) 5 STARS AND AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR ALL AROUND DINING EXCELLENCE!!
(5)JJ G.
Excellent! This is some of the best Greek food I have ever eaten. I've been coming here for years, and have never had a bad meal. Hummus is yummy. I've tried the spanakopita, gyro, moussaka, pastichio, and the lamb and all have been excellent. The stewed green beans are amazing! The only thing I find is they put a little too much dressing on the salad for my liking. This will always be my go to spot for greek food. I always find the restaurant has many greek diners in it as well, which says something about the quality of food.
(5)Jen P.
One of the most solid Greek places on the Island. EVERYTHING on the menu is great. Outstanding moussaka.
(5)Anna B.
Been here twice. First time the food was great. Second time we waited 15 mins before leaving and after not one person came to our table to serve us. And the place was empty.
(3)Jeff L.
When a Southern boy finds himself stuck on Long Island for work in the middle of winter, you're open to trying someting new. Glad I did, this place was awesome. I had the Babaknoush and Lamb Shanks dinner, and it was all wonderful. Highly recommend!
(5)Rebecca A.
Love this place, comfortable restauarant. If you come for dinner, you get pita and chickpeas as a complimentary appetizer which is delicious. Salads are a nice size and tasty. Their gyro pitzas are very good, and their falafels is one of the best I have tasted. Their soups are all also good. My only complaint is the service. Sometimes I feel like we wait forever for a menu, food, etc even when it is not crowded. Reasonably priced.
(4)Bill S.
This is the best Greek Food on Long Island. It is no nonsense and special. You get great service, fast, and authentic Greek Food. Over the last three years I have worked my way through the menu, and there is no way to say what is the best. The souvlakis are all AWESOME. Gyro meat is PERFECT. LAMB SHANKS! Get them at least once before you die! All the seafood is excellent, especially the scallops and salmon. Salad dressing is AWESOME....Feta is the REAL DEAL. BEST HUMMUS BAR NONE......The green beans side is consistently good, as is the rest of the food, always the same week in and out..... The prices, quality of the ingredients makes for the best value on Long Island. If you are a true Long Islander, do yourself a favor, skip the diner next time and go here, the value and quality of the food is twice that of any diner, make that three times the value. Expect a busy store in the peak hours, and people will be waiting for seats and Take Out orders will be streaming out the door the entire time.
(5)Andrew S.
Best Greek Restaurant around town. Food is always delicious, correct and portions are very generous. Restaurant or take-out you will not be disappointed.
(5)Doug K.
While visiting Long Island for the holidays, I was tasked with picking my mother up from the airport. On our way back from the airport, she suggested we have dinner at the Akropolis restaurant in Nesconset. I haven't found much for Greek food since moving Upstate, so I agreed to this suggestion. This certainly was one of the better ideas that my mother has had in quite some time. I had ordered a salad and a souvlaki for my dinner. The cooks certainly provided a generous serving of the souvlaki, with heaping portions of pork, peppers and onions, which was tasty indeed. The attitude of the waitstaff was helpful, even though it was getting close to closing time. I look forward to dining here again.
(4)Mike B.
I came around closing time the other night so I imagine it wasn't their top tier performance, so take my review w a grain of salt. The pita appetizer dip was really great, unfortunately that's all I can really say that was positive about my experience. The wait for our menus was about 10 minutes, 15 more for drinks and 25 more for food. I didn't get a single refill on my drink. The spinach pie was ok, the scoildaya(forgive my spelling) was not good. My chicken gyro was rubbery and luke warm(not to mention it just wasn't great quality). The person I was with was quite intoxicated, but they enjoyed their lamb gyro. Hopefully this was just an off time for them.
(2)Gary B.
I love the food here, the gyro platters (and everything else for that matter) are always piled sky high and amazingly delicious. As far as food is concerned, I love it all and have no complaints. The service always seems to be a bit on the slow side and one or two of the staff are extremely forgetful which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I eat here at least twice a month and highly recommed it.
(4)Diana H.
I am impressed. When a co-worker mentioned going to a Greek restaurant in Nesconset I automatically thought, mediocre Greek food is better then other types of mediocre food. Well that was a silly thought because this place was very good. I enjoyed the chicken souvlaki on top of the Greek salad, it was a large portion for lunch and the chicken was seasoned very well. I tried my friends gyro meat and that was also very tasty. The waiter was nice and prompt. All and all a very good experience, looking forward to going back and trying more from the menu.
(4)Sydney C.
Best yogurt sauce I've had in a long time but the gyros are just good. They could be really good but not enough lettuce, tomato, onion, and bread for the amount of meat. The meat itself has good flavor but their quality control is a little off as I have had gyros from them in the same week look and taste drastically different...
(3)Matt M.
I feel bad giving it only three stars, but I made a bad selection on my dinner choice. I regretfully ordered the Greek sausage platter. Please do not ask me what the dish is actually called, but it was so bad. The reason for the high rating is the great spread of chickpeas/onions/oil dish they brought out with pita bread. i wouldn't get the pizza here, its made on a pita and the mozzarella was so thick. The rice pudding was really good. Litle pricey, but I would come again and I do have a feeling that my next visit will be a lot more enjoyable, as long as it doesn't include Greek sausages
(3)Diana B.
Best Greek food we've had in a while. Food came super fast and was a hefty portion despite only getting the gyro sandwich versus gyro dinner. Waiter forgot our soda, but other than that we were left very satisfied and plan to return!
(4)Lynne P.
Have I mentioned yet that I love it when someone else cooks for me? I've spent a lot of my younger years living in Huntington, home to--hands down--the best Greek food ever, definitely made by gods. Since living "out east" on this island of long, I have to say, Huntington has met its match with Nesconset's Akropolis. It is just excellent Greek food. We have only had take-out, but it's so fresh and delicious it would be hard to imagine it could taste even better dining in. The yogurt sauce is top-notch, the greek salad is super fresh and chock-full of veggies and amazing feta, the gyro meat is heaven, and...wait for it...the pita bread here beats out any other bread from any other culture. It just does. I don't know why. Even the best loaf of Italian has nothing on the pita bread specifically from this restaurant. It's soft and thick and chewy and melty and almost buttery or something... And---the portions are huge. An appetizer of fresh hummus with tahini comes in a big, foil take-out tin, twice as much as the grocery store containers, and costs under $6. Treat yourself like a Greek God for a day and eat here. You can thank me later.
(5)Michele L.
Granted I have not yet eaten AT the place- I have only taken out so I am going to tell you what I think about the food, and the owner. This greek food is BY FAR, the best I have ever had. Ironically I have lived around the corner and never even noticed it in the corner of that shopping center.**kicks self**** The portions are HUGE. really though.. If you have read my reviews of other greek restaurants you know that I am a freak over Tziki sauce (yogurt sauce). It makes or breaks my loyalty to a place. You have bad yogurt sauce, Im gone. So when I asked for my usual "extra yogurt sauce on the side" it was because I am used to having too do that because that little plastic mini condiment cup that restaurants give, is never enough yogurt sauce to douse everything in...not for my taste anyway. Well- let me tell you; I was shocked. They give you a small sized styrofoam COFFEE CUP FULL of the BEST Tiziki sauce for each gyro. I am in complete shock. Not kidding when I said huge portions. Need I describe the food portions after you just were made to understand the condiment portion size? Nope. I ate what was left over for breakfast and am embarrassed to admit that I am eating it again now. The place was bustling last night on my first visit to pick up dinner (Saturday night of course).. From what I can see its a very happy family run place and the owner knows everybody and goes above and beyond. I appreciated the warm smile and courteous service. We ordered: Calamari, a cheeseburger and fries, a gyro sandwich and an appetizer slice of spanakopita. The check was $38- there was enough food to feed 5 people not 2.5. Not half bad. (Especially that the food was Frikken amazing and caused me to eat more than I could handle and suffer from a big "food baby" In my tummy for hours afterward) There is a ton of parking outside- The place itself looked super cozy and nice inside, but not large. I will have to go eat in house on a quiet night to get the full experience but I cant say I am disappointed AT ALL. The place is great- thumbs way up.
(5)Dominick S.
Solid Greek food. Gyro huge and excellent..the real thing, not reheated meat. Mousaka (sp) very good, salads and soup excellent. We order takeout, so can't really comment on service. Seems like a there is a lot of family working here, lots of kids. Decor looks like it hasn't been updated in 40 years. Overall recommended.
(4)Greg A.
A hidden gem in Nesconset. From the athenian mushroom appetizers to the gyros, moussaka and choices of Greek and Cypriot beer, its' quiet environment is very relaxing. A great place to get a meal.
(4)Craig K.
My review for this is only for take out, I have not eaten in the restaurant portion. So now that that's out of the way, let's get to it! I've gotten gyros here many times and they're consistently good. A lot of places I've gone to leave a bad taste in my mouth...literally. The meat in those other places is really bitter and there's only so much I can take of it. Then I have to keep drinking water all day for some reason - I'm constantly thirsty. But not this place, the meat is tasty and not dry...which also seems to be a staple of other Greek places. Two thumbs up for the gyros...or if you ate yours like a sandwich (with your hands), two thumbs up that now smell like armpits. I've also gotten the Greek Salad. You can't really get a bad Greek Salad. Anything with Feta Cheese is OK in my book, The stuffed spinach leaf thing can go to Hell, so leave it out. Yuk. But other than that, keep it comin'. So that's the story. Can't say how the service or restaurant portion is, but the take out is recommended. The end. EDIT: Sundays are hit or miss as far as it being open. One Sunday it's open, the next it's not. So it's a gamble if you want to use gas to drive there on that day. 50/50 chances or going home hungry. EDIT 2012: It still seems they pick random days to close at will. Kind of annoying to go there and find they decided to close that day. The hours are listed, but nope, not open. This happens fairly often and is just plain bad business. There are other Gyro places near me that actually follow their own business hours and won't waste my gas and time, so looks like no more Akropolis for me. A shame.
(3)Gabrielle S.
Consistently delicious!!! The food is amazing, and I am a tough critic. Try the pickled octopus, spinach pie, chickpeas, shrimp casserole, spinach casserole, tzatziki......the list goes on. Everything I've tasted here is just delicious. The pikilia platter appetizer and a medium greek salad is enough to feed a family of four for around $20. Great prices, ample portions, always fresh and YUMMMYYYYYY! One critique: if you are in a rush, you may want to try Akropolis at another time. The service can be a bit on the slow side on some nights. If you are not in a rush, the food is certainly worth the wait. ETA: I am pregnant, and this place has fulfilled my every craving!!!! I can't get enough. I would eat here every single day if I could. The feta is pasteurized and delicious - a prego's dream. I love this place.
(5)Glen R.
I've yet to come across better greek food and I've tried many times. Someone else mentioned how good the chickpeas and pita are that they serve when you sit down. It's true and I have no idea why their pitas are sooooo much better than other places. (I kinda figured they all bought them from the same place!) Same with the gyro meat. Their's is head and shoulders above others and the meat is tender, flavorful and not too salty. My favorite dish, however, are the lamb shanks. The meat just falls off the bone and the roasted potatoes are just wonderful. Naturally, they make a killer greek salad and, once again, their feta cheese is so much better than other places. I think it al comes down to one thing...the quality of the ingredients and Akropolis clearly uses high quality. Go here...you will not be disappointed with anything you order.
(5)Rob H.
Love this place. Plenty of food and its pretty good. Can get crowded at times and dining area could use a sprucing up.
(4)Larry K.
This is one of the best, if not the best, Greek restaurants in Suffolk County. Family owned and run with huge portions. The food is exceptional. They do an insane amount of take out as well.
(4)Alyssa S.
I've been eating here for years, since I was a little kid and we'd get take-out gyros. I have never found another Greek restaurant that is quite so delicious, with such nice people running it. Now I live across the country but every time I come home I make a point of eating at the Akropolis at least once. Their gyro meat is everything gyro meat is supposed to be - well-spiced, moist, and delicious. Their egg lemon soup is amazing and will cure any ailment you have- the perfect consistency and flavor, and full of big moist chunks of pulled chicken and rice. The mediterranean chicken and the spanakopita with their melty feta are just to die for. And the chickpea appetizer with fresh, warm pita bread that they bring out when you order? Pure perfection. I've tried to duplicate it at home but it's never as good as what you get here. If you live nearby and you haven't eaten here, you're really missing out.
(5)Samantha S.
By far the best and most authentic Greek food I've had. The chickpeas and warm pita they put on the table is a great start to a great meal! The service is amazing, we have to come to love all the workers! Good prices, good food, good service... No reason not to try!
(5)Matt T.
Excellent Greek food hidden on the North Shore. My wife and I used to eat at Skorpio's in Huntington all the time. Then we moved further east. We tried a local greek spot and were sorely disappointed. Then Yelp led us here. The Akropolis is the best Mediterranean in the area!
(4)Carl N.
Went for lunch and had a very nice meal. Food was very good except the small Greek salad. It had to much dressing on it or it was sitting in it to long and made the lettuce mushy. Service was fine.
(3)Matt K.
Awesome greek restaurant... very fresh gyros, awesome service and all around solid
(4)Tina A.
This is probably the best Greek food in the area. I always enjoy the complimentary chickpeas served with pitas. The souvalki and gyro sandwiches are always large portions and they never skimp out on the tazatki that comes with it. The moussaka here is layered nicely and holds well, it is not watery and stands up as a nice thick slice. The spinach pie here is huge and delicious as well, the filo is never burnt. Their seafood always seems fresh, too. You need to check out this place if you're looking for some good Greek food. The service is okay, they can be friendlier, but the tasty food makes up for the lack of hospitality.
(5)Paul M.
If your going here for a gyro and some fries its ok The gyro is a nice portion but the platters are garbage the rice is blah and the green beans they served w/ it tasted like it came right out of a can. Why open a restaurant if you can't even make fresh green beans
(2)Kate S.
I've been living down the street for the past year and finally made it into Akropolis...and I'm so happy I did! A few friends had recommended the place to me when I moved, but I'm actually not a huge fan of greek food so I didn't make it a priority, until yesterday when the craving for a chicken gyro struck. I went with my husband and the place is cute, mediterranean themed sort of, but I was so hungry I didn't really take in much of the decor. The menu is pretty big, so even though I wanted a gyro I just had to check my options. Since I hadn't been here before I decided to stick with my original choice as a gauge of the restaurant (I figure if they don't do that right, then that's bad news). So we ordered some stuffed baked clams to start and I got my chicken gyro and my hubby ordered the lamb gyro dinner (which he thought was going to be a sandwich...he doesn't read carefully). They bring warm pita and some kind of chick peas with onions and olive oil, maybe lemon...to the table and it was so good! The pita were fluffy, warm and fresh tasting and the chick peas were creamy and flavorful. If I wasn't a baked clam addict I would have been satisfied with the pita as an app. But my gluttony requires me to order baked clams pretty much any time they're on a menu, and again, I'm glad I did! They were really awesome, chopped stuffed clams that were super tender and perfect with a squirt of lemon...and not to mention they were enormous. My chicken gyro was great, super flavorful and full of meat, lettuce, and nice ripe tomatoes...and the yogurt sauce...awesome!! I also ordered a side of fries (definitely didn't need them) but they were also really well done, hot and crispy. My husband said his dinner was very tasty although he would have rather had the sandwich...oh well there's always next time because we'll definitely be back! The best part was when we went to pay at the counter and I told them it was our first time here and that we had recommendations and lived in the area and how much we loved it and the (I guess owner?) comped our clams! Definitely a nice gesture considering we'll be repeat customers and spread the word! I guess I do like greek food!

I have tried many Greek places and this one is one of the best for this area. Whenever I'm in the mood for Greek, I call Akropolis. I can't review on the service as I have only had take out from here each time I ordered. I have tried many different menu items such as the lamb Gyro, chicken gyro, souvlaki, several different spinach dishes, and each one of them was excellent. Each time I pick up my order it is correct, never a wait for take out, and the prices are reasonable. Def worth a try if you like Greek, or even if you don't like Greek, this place might just change your mind. Happy Greeking!!!

OMG thank you Akropolis....b/c of you I'm actually looking forward to moving to Long Island (pronounce the G). My dad and I were looking for a Chinese place and found this restaurant by accident! But I'm so happy we did! You have NO IDEA how much food we got for $34. Both of us had avgo-lemono soup (pretty good, but my mom's is better). Then they brought out my dad's salad and some chick peas with onions and lemon with pita (for both of us). Then our meals came out. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken souvlaki. It was a massive salad with like 2lbs of chicken on it. They gave me a soup cup full of tzaziki to dip....mmmm. Mine had a good amount of feta, olives, tomatoes, and dressing. The dressing, by the way, was awesome. Perfect. My dad ordered the loukaniko (Greek sausage) which they served over rice. He didn't finish his meal. I repeat: He didn't finish his meal. Ok I guess you need to know my dad to understand the significance of this fact, but let me tell you, it's something for the record books. We both had lunch for the next day though. His meal came with dessert and they only had one Greek dessert (Kataifi) which neither of us is crazy about, but we got it anyways. It was as big as my head, but not that good (sorry Akropolis). The service was warm and friendly. There's no surprise why it was so packed.
