This is a great place to hang out with coworkers, friends, or to even fly solo! Drinks after work here are my favorite while in BayRidge. Live bands keep the atmosphere alive while even watching some sporting event on one of their many TVs around the dining area and bar. The service here can be slow at times, but what do you expect when there's a crowd of people around every corner. However, service is always with a smile and the food comes out hot while the drinks come out cold! Great food selection, many beers and a full bar to choose from. Gotta come here to get a taste of how wicked this place can be!

I come here often and not just because I live nearby. This is a great bar and it was even before they moved to this location. I do like it even more now because they serve food and this place is much larger. I came here to watch all the games during the hockey playoffs and I had such a good time. The food is delicious. My favorite items on the menu are the mac and cheese and turkey burgers, yum! They have a good selection of beer, and if you feel like having a mixed drink, I think they make those well too. I've seen a few bands play here and they are usually pretty good. I always have a great time when I come here, glad to be a few blocks away.

Went here for an early dinner with my wife first impression very clean and pretty unique decor. I had the spring roll filled with corn beef and cheese very delicious. My wife app was crab cakes nice flavor. For our entree we ordered Shepard pie and the special sword fish both were very good. If I had anything negative to say it would be that the sauce around the sword fish was so so. Overall I highly recommend this joint.

I'd give 5 stars for the service, decor, atmosphere, and the layout to eat and watch Football. Unfortunately my brunch was awful, the Irish breakfast was weak,Nome of the meats were enjoyable, it was a sad imitation... and. a disappointment.

I stayed with a friend in Bay Ridge (Brooklyn) this weekend while visiting Manhattan. I arrived late Friday night and went to The Wicked Monk for a drink. They had a really decent draft beer selection. The pub features some really cool design elements like faux stain glass windows and dark stain woodwork that really contribute to the tavern vibe. There was also a really fun cover band playing live music! We went back late in the day Sunday before heading out of town for some grub. They have an impressive menu selection with pub-type comfort food. Delicious aromas fill the air (Fish and chips and other seafood specials I believe) and the plate presentation was fantastic (chicken pot pie and burgers I saw delivered) but that doesn't satisfy the palette. Am I right?! They have a mac and cheese section on the menu that looked tempting. Two of us got the cheesesteak mac and cheese and one of us got the primavera mac and cheese. We all agreed they were bland. We were all dousing them in malt vinegar just to add an acidic element that was clearly lacking (leftover mixed with hot sauce and worstershire they were good) I know that cuisine of the British Isles typically has fewer spices, but don't think one should have to doctor up their food that much after it comes out of the kitchen. Our server was very friendly, but other than that the service was very slow and so was the kitchen. She wrapped up our to go boxes and then waited an an appropriate, yet noticeable, amount of time for our food to settle to ask if we wanted dessert. We said no and then probably waited 15 mins to get our check and then another 10 mins to sign them. Absurd. The place was plenty busy, but there were plenty of servers. My rating: Points for atmosphere/aesthetics. Deductions for service and food. Just get a good server and don't order the mac and cheese. Honestly, I would go back to drink for sure, but also to eat. I just think you're better served ordering the burger or fish and chips (kitchen seemed to turn fried foods out quicker) and they looked/smelled delicious.

ok. I should have updated this a while ago, because since the relaunch and relocation of Wicked Monk to this location, I've found the menu to be hit or miss for my taste, but they always try to mix it up, which I admire and appreciate. (Chicken salad with apples, Reuben spring rolls, mini shepherd's pie, etc.) Today, I selected the pork chop lunch special, and frankly I was blown away! Just absolutely, the best quality cut of thick meat, (see picture) that was cooked exactly as ordered. Nice broccoli and homemade applesauce sides, and the thinly sliced baguette bread basket with butter, blew my calorie limit on this day. At 17.95 as one of the lunch specials, this is enough to share or do it as an early dinner for the day. The afternoon bartender is always so nice and friendly, and just overall very pleasant. Great Brooklyn place!

Wow, talk about an upgrade. I was at the original Wicked Monk maybe 10 years ago, which was a divey rock band bar. The new spot is bigger, nice, new clean and has a different vibe. They definitely brought the monk/medieval theme out well with gargoyles and some stained glass cathedral type décor. The bar is long, almost the length of entire place and there is a coat check and plenty of space for sitting, standing and dancing. The band I caught was playing dance music like Nelly, but at some point during the night there was more rock music like Green Day and Blink 182. The crowd was decent age range and it was pretty hopping on a Saturday night.

This time around, I went with a friend to the Monk for dinner. The waitress that we had was very nice and most accommodating when it came to making a special drink that I had requested( a Bellini). We ordered oysters as an appetizer, the fish and chips, and the lamb chops. Only gripe that I have is that all of the food came out at once. The oysters were served at the same time as our dinner entrees, so we felt a bit rushed. Seems that when we came in at 9:30 p.m., the place was gearing up for the band, and the kitchen was about to close at 10 p.m. Dinner prices were reasonable, and the portions are huge. My fish and chips were fine, though the steak fries were a bit too well done for my taste. My friend proclaimed that her oysters and lamb chops were delicious. She also enjoyed the beer that she ordered, Killian on tap. Canned music that was played throughout the bar was very loud, but, hey, it's a pub. The band seemed to take a long time to set up, and though we wanted to hear them, felt too tired to stay by the time they were ready to perform. Still, the Monk was a nice place to go to for a Saturday night out with friends.

I like the Monk. It's a solid bar with really nice people working there. I don't understand how an Irish bar can stoop to using powdered mashed potatoes though. That just seems wrong. The mac and cheese is the best thing on the menu besides that and they will often have great specials. Otherwise this is a good place to come and grab a beer. Just be warned that sometimes they charge a cover. That doesn't make a lot of sense considering that I can't think of any other bars in the area that do that as well. A couple of times I've peeked my head in here and they asked for a cover, I've just turned around and gone to Pipens or the Lock Yard.
(3)Sherwin C.
Had medium rear garlic steak with steamed broccoli and roasted potatoes. Delicious and cooked to my specifications. My friends had marinated pork chops, meshed potatoes, garden salad with walnuts, gumbo soup. Tasted theirs and found no complaints. Had a blues/country band. Other side is a bar. Somewhat crowded on a Thursday night.
(4)Nikki K.
I wanted to like this place so much, but I just can't. The crowd is awful, the place smells like a frat house, and the food is extremely overpriced. They have a decent beer selection but it all tastes stale. I wish it was better, but I have given it a couple of chances and it's just pretty bad. Although lots of people who seem to have come from Staten Island seem to like it...
(2)Jen L.
they get 3 stars Because when they dont have bacon to put in there cobb salad they put ??????? I DONT KNOW Its weird circular chunky definitely not bacon Maybe cat Did that twice to me never again If I am in the mood for a burger OR thirsty I come here otherwise go elsewhere.... The burgers have a cute onion ring on top and delicious fries also comes with complimentary bread.......
(3)Ashley A.
Its a decent place to get a drink and even a bite to eat with coworkers after a long week. Bartenders are friendly and the live music sets the place apart from other places.
(4)Jenn C.
I'm halfway between 2 and 3 stars, so I'll just go with 3 unless something tips me down to 2 for now. I came here with my boyfriend to get some dinner at about 6:15 or so, and didn't realize it was "Mardi Gras" night. The two guitarists they had were good, but I'm not really into Mardi Gras or cajun food. I ordered a caesar salad and the double-cut pork chop, which the waiter asked me how I like it cooked. I looked at him and said "Uh, pork chops need to be cooked through." He said "Well done?" I said "Well...uh...I've never had to put a doneness when it comes to pork." "Why don't we say medium well, then? Because it takes about 35 minutes for well." he finally said. Uh...ok. It came served with a side of cabbage and sweet potato mash. The cabbage was a bit too sour for me (it was in a vinegary based sauce) and I didn't touch it. The sweet potato mash was too sweet. But the pork chop was excellent. My boyfriend had the philly cheesesteak mac and cheese, and after tasting it, I can honestly say it was missing something. I'm not sure what was missing, or maybe it was the fact that it all had one texture (greasy), but neither of us enjoyed it.Perhaps a few crispy done pieces mixed in? Or breadcrumb topping? Something to crunch when you're slogging through a greasy mess. All in all, the place is beautiful, the server was friendly, and the band was good (if not loud). I would probably come back for drinks and maybe appetizers, but I think I'm going to give it a pass for dinners.

I like my bars the same way I like my men--dark, dingy, and super Irish. Alternatively, that is also how I like my coffee. The Wicked Monk is one of the most popular (aka immensely crowded) bars in Bay Ridge. It's spacious with booths, and an awesome selection of beers. However, if you're coming on a Friday or Saturday night, you may find the hoards of dark, dingy, super Irish men overwhelming. In which case, feel free to visit any of the other equally awesome bars in Bay Ridge--there are plenty. Wicked Monk is best visited on a Thursday night where you can hang out and converse with your friends over pints of beer and delicious Irish fare. Or if you don't feel like talking to your friends, they have TVs that you can use to ignore them--whichever you prefer, really.

I did not enjoy my lunch here the prices were high and the sandwich and fries were a very small portions for the price they charge .I said something to the staff and got the Brooklyn Go Fuck Yourself Look Won't be coming back Salty Dog is much better on 3 ave ..

Excellent meal in Bay Ridge. I'm on a multi-day "clean diet" (think veggies and nuts only) and my husband was craving some red meat. Thankfully this fit the bill perfectly, and in a great pub atmosphere to boot. There were multiple salads and sides for me to pick from, and hubby had a delicious-smelling pork ribs dish (he said they were excellent, I'll just have to go back soon to verify!) Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It's a great place for large parties, kids, and a great bar area separated by a half way from the seating area. Fair warning: it's a true pub, so if you're looking for a quiet meal, this one's not for you. We were walk-in's at 5 pm on Saturday night, but reservations are highly recommended. It was already quite crowded, so we were lucky a table had freed up just before we arrived.

Effective yesterday evening was my official fifth or sixth time at the now not so new location of The Wicked Monk; a bar that had been a popular Fifth Avenue staple spot for decades. The first couple of times that I visited were only to snag a quick pint and these last three I managed to sit for a proper dinner and now we Yelp! The new Wicked Monk is a spacious place without question and when the customer arrives he is greeted by a host who generally seems to direct them to the dining room area. The bar is on your right and its not truly separate from the dining room as it was when this was The Bally Bunion, but there are booths on that side of the space that tend to make it seem two distinct parts. Depending on your evening goals its the dining room or the main bar. I found it rather interesting that they seem to be gearing this a dining spot since that was not their original premise. The wait staff was charming and pleasant on each occasion and so far I have sampled the Sheperds Pie, Rueben Spring Rolls, Chicken Marsala, the burger and chicken wings, they have all been excellent. As a foodie if I caught sight of the chef I would make sure to compliment him on his skills. The drinks were standards for me and either a hard cider or light beer. I was a little annoyed at how there didn't appear to be any happy hour pricing for the diners. Not sure there is one at all here but if so they should consider allowing the whole bar to enjoy this. It makes sense for sure and almost always guarantees a diner to move over to the bar when they finish eating. Its a sure bet that I will be returning and I enjoy the vibe over here much more than the also nearby Pippin's.

Good fun for everyone, the food is a hit or miss. The live bands keep this place going. Check out the art work on the ceiling, not to bad.
(3)Nath L.
My favorite neighborhood pub. Best buffalo wings I've ever had. And I have had my share. Love the shepherd's pie as well. Good beers on tap.
(4)Chris G.
Prices are very reasonable and everything I had on the menu was absolutely fantastic! Short ribs are delicious!
(4)Jackie B.
Took the family here for dinner one evening at the recommendations of several friends. It wasn't a horrible experience. The place is nice enough, the wait staff friendly (though I think under trained.) I dunno. I can't see myself going there unless one of my friends decide to go. I just wasn't blown away or excited to come back and try something else. Like the three star reviews says, it's "A-ok"
(3)HEATHER M.
The food and service was outstanding. Will be coming back and glad to see a spot hiring normal people not pretentious.
(5)Thomas C.
I came here during bingo night and it was a fairly busy night. Even with that service was fairly prompt and food was done quite well. The decor is a hodgepodge of Irish pub with furniture taken from a church. Plenty of tv with sports on to make you throw up in a good way. Parking around the hood is god awful so just cross your fingers.
(4)Ann D.
Definitely recommend! The beer was cold, my lunch was satisfying and the decor was really great. Loved the entire theme. Worth checking out.
(5)Asha B.
I used to live in Bay Ridge but only had the chance to try the place out once for drinks so last night we decide to sit down and grab a bite to eat which was not a good idea! I must say our waiter was great! He helped us select which beer we would drink for the night by giving great suggestions and letting us sample as many as we wanted. During our meal he did check on us quite a few times which showed great customer service. Now on to the food-I ordered the Gaelic Steak and my boyfriend ordered the Fish and Chips. My steak tasted as though they opened a can of Campbells cream of mushroom soup and just poured it over the steak. My bf's fish and chips were just full of coating and totally bland. Not to mention that we waited soooo long for the food to get to our table even though it didn't seem like a busy night in the kitchen at all. I was a bit disappointed but all in all I would come back only for drinks def not for the food!
(3)Anthony H.
Great place to drink, watch the game and for a group to eat dinner. Nice staff and good atmosphere. Favorite dishes are the burger, wings, half chicken, shepherds pie, traditional Mac n cheese, Reuben rolls and, on Thursdays, the crawfish tacos. Good bands on weekends and great selection of beers plus top notch and friendly staff.

Spacious!!! I love that this place has space. You can't find that very often in Manhattan or Queens. I was involved in a show here yesterday & while Bay Ridge (where this is located) is hard to get to on public transit, this place is a very easy walk & right at the intersection of 95th Street and 3rd Avenue. You can also see the view of the bridge right outside if you look to your right as your facing away from the bar. My sex on the beach here was good & they have a great stage for performance. No problems hearing the band and it wasn't overpowering. The ladies room was small but well lighted with good mirrors (particularly pertinent to our purposes). The vibe was very chill and staff I encountered was friendly. My experience here made me consider going to Bay Ridge for events more often since I didn't feel creeped out being here around 2 a.m.; seems prices would be more fair at venues (this event had a $5 cover as opposed to the $10 one I had to pay the night before to see a band) & the crowd would be far friendlier than in Manhattan or parts of Queens.

Before St. Patrick's Day I would have recommended the Wicked Monk wholeheartedly. However, this St. Patrick's Day I had reserved a table expecting to have a wonderful evening and a great meal. I clearly have a disability and need extra space, but not only did they ignore this fact, but they placed is in the busiest location in the middle of the room. The food which is generally good was terrible. I ordered fish and chips and the fish was undercooked and the chips were soggy, When I returned the meal as inedible the manager paid lip service to my complaint. The cost of the meal was taken from my bill but when I complained that I got sick from it, I was told that food poisining wasn't that quick. Needless to say I will never go back. There are plenty of faux Irish restaurants in Brooklyn better than this one....and ones that treat regular customers with decency and respect.

Was so disappointed last time I came here. The bartender "forgot" my order and started chatting with a group of guys that just came in. Meanwhile, I've been standing for a good ten minutes waiting for him to make my drink. I stayed a few minutes longer and tried to get his attention, but I guess he was so into his conversation that he forgot he took my order. I like the set up for The Wicked Monk, a great improvement from were it used to be. But really, maybe you can work on your service a little bit.
(2)Christopher H.
Having decided that it was a wee bit chilly to venture into NYC for St Paddy's Day, my wife and I headed over to the Wicked Monk to watch it on tv. The space is a vast improvement over their old location. We were seated by the fireplace which was nice and were impressed by their beer list. The Soda Bread was a tasty start and because of the holiday we both had corned beef. We also shared some oysters which were fresh and satisfying. The chef did a good job making it edible. The service was very welcoming and friendly. I would certainly come back here to have a few more beers and oysters.
(4)Angela K.
First time, I came to Wicked Monk was years ago when it was at the old spot with the pool table in the back. This place had transformed. Now it's huge and spacious. They kept the mural on the ceiling and the stained glass. First time to the new location was for brunch with my girlfriend, the Sangria was outstanding. We had: Dublin Crab Cakes - Very Good Reuben Spring Rolls - Great creation - Very Good Other times: Shrimp Dumplings - Very Good Fish & Chips - Very Good Guinness Braised Short Ribs of Beef - Good Chicken Pot Pie - Excellent The Wicked Monk Hamburger Platter - HUGE - Excellent There are Djs on Friday evenings at 11pm and on Saturdays there are live bands starting at 11pm. Long bar - pleanty of tvs....if you sit at the beginning end of the bar there is a hand print of a frequent customer that passed away laminated on the bar.

After attending a rehearsal for a wedding the following day, we all headed a few blocks over to The Wicked Monk for dinner. I'm only semi-familiar with Bay Ridge restaurants so I didn't know what to expect as I entered the doors. Our party was large and we already had reservations so the only seating issue was "who do I want to sit next to for the next few hours?". Being as it was a Friday night, it was comfortably packed, enough room at the bar to mingle and gesticulate without hitting someone (which I have done a few times once I start story telling). We were given a fixed menu of 3 items to choose from: chicken pot pie, a primavera mac & cheese and a sirloin burger. Oh, did I mention I eat a vegan diet? Usually an Irish pub isn't my first choice for dinner but when your boyfriend's in a wedding party and his family is picking up the tab, you go to where ever they pick. These situations can be a bit awkward, as I'm sure most vegetarian/vegans can attest. However, one of the groomsmen and also my boyfriend mentioned my dietary restrictions to the waitress who was slightly confused and felt bad that she couldn't think of an alternative. "A salad would be just fine... and some french fries. Oh, and a beer". See, as long as I can get a beer or glass of wine, the venue is A-OK in my book. About 5 minutes later the manager walked over to me and told me he had a portobello mushroom burger I could have instead and if he can have the kitchen make that for me in leu of a salad, although a salad was still an option. "Wow! Yes! That would be amazing!". And it was! I'm surprised and happy with the attentiveness of The Wicked Monk's staff and management. They managed to help alleviate an awkward moment and let us all relax and have a great night!

September 8th, 2014, my fiance and I stopped by at Wicked Monk for the first time, we were starving. I kept asking him to take me there for the longest time. Great decor and very comfortable place with dimmed lights, football game on all TVs, not a football fan but it's a bar restaurant so it didn't bother me much. Waitress/server asked us what will you be drinking?" I asked for Amber/Red beer of her choice. She asked me back, "What's that, I don't know." I tried explaining but I saw the hesitstion, she said she'll ask in the back. My man ordered Sam Adams Oktoberfest which they did not have. The bartended recommended to our waitress to offer another kind of Oktoberfest beer which happaned to be really good. We made our food orders, waited for about 10 minutes, a guy came out bringing the food to our table but was another table. We ordered Spinach and beet salad to split which was perfect and amazing, ordered 2 burger combos w/monterey jack cheese, home fries, 1/2 a pickle, 2 onion rings which was desent and absolutely had no space for dessert. Our bill was $62.00 w/ tip. Decor rating:A Menu Options: B Service Rating: C Price: $$$

I just wanted to comment upon my last trip to Wicked Monk. I frequent this restaurant fairly often, and I am always satisfied with the service I receive. Everyone is always so attentive with anything and everything we may need. I particularly have really been into the Cobb Salad. There is something about it that just puts it above the rest. This last trip my friend and I shared the macaroni and cheese and had salads. The waitress was attentive, but gave us our space. It was the perfect balance of being helped, but not overwhelmed. We had a beautiful time. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Came here for Sunday Brunch. Inside has a very gothic look but the place is clean and ready to get your game on. I ordered an irish breakfast with a bloody mary. I can't complain, with the food, drink and service, it was great. I would absolutely come back.
(5)Frances C.
The food is delicious. And one thing Bayridge lacks in service is Danielle the bartender. She is very friendly and attentive, unlike other bartenders in the area. You can see she works hard always making sure everyone is takin cared of. I've been here a many times and she is outstanding but, she's only on days. The few nights I've been here the bartenders are good but slower. Still wicked monk in Bayridge is the place to go
(5)Luci B.
I love love fucking love the decor, if I could separately rate that at 5 stars I would. The stained glass, carved wood, illuminated mural on the ceiling- there's something to look at everywhere. I came in around 6:30/7 and left at 9:30 on a Saturday night and the place was nearly empty. Supposedly it gets more crowded at 10, and then really crowded at midnight, but I was just dropping in for a quick drink so I couldn't stay to see that for myself. When I first sat down a woman bartender was serving me, she had a generous pour and was charging me $5 per glass of Jameson. Then her shift was over and a male bartender took over who poured me really tiny portions and charged me $7 a glass. I don't know what was up with that, it was strange for a few reasons. But bottom line: if what you're serving me in a glass can't fill a shot, you've got it wrong. The people there enjoy classic rock which was really, really nice. For once I wasn't the only one putting it on the jukebox. They have some video games, I think one was boxing themed which looks like It'd be really fun to try drunk. Clean bathrooms. I definitely plan on coming back.
(3)Jack R.
Solid Irish Pub. I came expecting good Pub style food and was not disappointed in the least. The booths were very accommodating for my high energy kids. Decor was very cool; it gave a real Irish pub vibe. Good food, great selection of draft beer. Will be back.
(5)Jackie S.
Came here for dinner last night with my husband. We both agreed that the atmosphere and service were fine but the food was truly awful. I had the chicken special- the chicken breast was overcooked and drowning in sauce. His steak was very fatty and the mashed potatoes were cold! For the price, the food should be better. I don't think I'll go back but if I do, I'll stick with a burger.
(1)Jane J.
This place is GROSS. I went here with family for dinner and the whole experience was a joke. The food is reheated, greasy, fast food. The service is slow and incompetent. There are so many great restaurants in Brooklyn, this place doesn't even register on the food radar. It's a glorified sports bar but you'd be better off watching the game with some takeout at home. Stay away!
(1)Kaitlyn M.
Love it here! Chuck is amazing and totally listened to what we wanted and made it happen! Really appreciate their amazing customer service and attention to detail not to mention Chuck looks like a hot Prince William.
(5)Sharone N.
Mussels were the best. Ever. Love their belgian fries and portobello burger. Service is always friendly and approachable. A welcome addition to the hood.

Since my first first review I have been back three more times and all the past three times have sucked. Well the food have been consistently good but the service has gone from suck to blow! Today will be my last time going to the Wicked Monk! My friends and I were sat at the front table by the window. Sharing the table with us was the manager/owner/boss(?) either way, why were we sat there? We got there at 3:30 so they did not take our order till 4pm when the dinner menu started. That was annoying but understandable. Our FIRST, yes I said first waitress was very nice but then she disappeared. Maybe her shift was over but she never told us. Whatever! Next, I asked for vinegar for my salad from the busboy and he brought me malt vinegar, really?? And I told him it was for my salad. I had to call over another waitress to get the proper vinegar. Next issue: Not that it was inappropriate enough to sit at the same table as the owner dude but then he was humming the whole time. Annoying! Next: The owner dude decided to reprimand the busboy for not telling the chef they didn't have anymore ketchup. Yes, we heard the whole conversation as they were 3 feet away from us. Awkward! After that, the chef came out and basically had a staff meeting about ketchup. We felt like we were part of the meeting, not cool! And my last issue: $7 for a side of french fries!!! $7... get the hell out of here! It's not like you got a huge bowl of fries, it was basically on a plate that was smaller than a dinner plate but bigger than a bread plate! This is BS!!! Oh and one last thing: My friend had to ask two different people for a glass of water! Come on people... get it together! There is ZERO organization with the waitstaff! Just to mention, the last time I was there which was about 3 weeks ago, we were never told the dinner specials, had THREE different waitresses and was there for over and hour and a half! I guess I'm the idiot who thought that the past few times a fluke with the waitstaff. Today put the nail in the coffin! It's a shame because the food is good.
(1)Lola L.
Great bar. The food was good. Had a special Mac n' Cheese. Service is lacking. There seems to be a lot of staff doing nothing. They have a good beer selection. Just make sure you're gone by the time the DJ comes.

We've lived in Bay Ridge for six years, but this was our first time at the Wicked Monk. We headed there expecting basic pub food and we were very pleasantly surprised. The menu, while small, is varied, sophisticated, and delicious. I had a tuna steak special with an asian-inspired soy/wasabi/honey glaze, over asparagus. There was a side of mashed sweet potatoes with fried leeks on top. It was an outstanding dish, not typical pub fare at all. My husband had a special macaroni and cheese with scallops, mushrooms, jalapeno peppers and pepper-jack cheese. It was perfect: the scallops were tender, the macaroni was al dente, and the jalapenos did not overpower the rest of the dish. A great spin on macaroni and cheese. For dessert, I had the deep-fried banana cheesecake. It was really very tasty, reminiscent of a canoli. My husband had the apple crisp, also yummy. The waitstaff was pleasant and very attentive. My water glass was refilled promptly several times (pregnant water guzzler, here), and my husband's beers were delivered right away. The decor is really interesting and fun. It is a relaxed and casual atmosphere but really nicely done. My only very, very minor negative is that the hostess did not acknowledge us when we entered (she was on the phone), and there was nobody at the door to say goodnight when we left. We'll definitely be coming back.
(4)Lauren D.
So the re-done Wicked Monk opened around the block from me. For weeks and weeks I would pass by and see if they had a table, most times the wait was at least 45 minutes at 6pm (early)! So one night we finally find no wait and go in. Now I can tell you why there is no longer a wait, the food is just ok so no one is going to wait 45 minutes for it. I had the reuben spring rolls, beef satay, and mac and cheese. The Mac and Cheese I think was really poorly done and lacked flavor. The appetizers were ok, but would be perfect if I was at the bar drinking more. They had a decent beer selection. Now what I did like was the service, our waitress was very good and attentive. But overall I think I would go back there to just drink, not eat.

Nice place to eat...had the cheesburger with onion rings and fries..the only complaint was that an eldery person walked in who had pretty bad body odor but i was finished with the food by that time..they should turn away ppl like that so other ppl can enjoy the food

I recalled many years ago that the wicked monk was a bar on 5th ave. I heard the place had moved and reopened with some pub food. I guess I was hoping for some real gastropub food but got instead good old school brooklyn bar food. I had a nice coffee with baileys which was perfect on a cold winters day. We had burgers and chicken pot pie. My friend, while saying the size was more than generous, thought the chicken pot pie had no taste at all. She had to keep adding salt to the dish. My burger was fine/good. After dinner we were given the desert menu. Ordered the apple galette to share between the 3 of us. Told they were out. Ordered the cheesecake, told they were out. Finally got a chocolate mousse that they gave on the house. The food I'd give 2 stars to, the decor is nice- that of an inside of a chapel. It was a Thursday around 4:30pm so the crowd was good, not too loud at all. A two man band came on around 6pm and they were pleasant.

I've been here several times just for drinks and it was fun. Decided to come in earlier one Friday night for dinner with some girlfriends. We had some appetizers that were just ok, nothing noteworthy. I ordered the half grilled boneless chicken with the risotto cakes. The chicken was not entirely boneless, nor was it fully cooked. After two bites I pushed the dish aside. However, the risotto cakes were pretty good. I could have just ordered those for dinner. The waitress was nice but I had to ask for water three times, probably because I wasn't drinking alcohol. I don't know if I'd go back for dinner, but I would go back with friends just for drinks. Love the decor of the place.

Do you like Chicken Pot Pie? Then I would advise you to not to order it here. I estimate that its filled with 50% potato and the peas n' carrots in it are the frozen kind. Very little chicken but since the chicken was tasteless i figure that in this case, less is better. My Waitress seemed annoyed when i asked to exchange it for a burger. Another disappointing aspect of the night was being seated in front of a group that had 3 wild kids getting in and out of their seats and bumping into me or my chair about 20 times. In all fairness i cant blame rhe restaurant for that. Oh well- every time you eat out cant be a winning experience.

So, the unthinkable has finally happened. Wicked Monk's has moved to 3rd avenue. I have to say I am unenthusiastic about the change. Sure, it makes sense when you examine their reasons for the move--more space for bigger crowds; better stage for bands; a kitchen to start a food menu. But it just doesn't feel right to me. The old Monk's was shoe-horned into an awkward, decrepit, dusty parcel and it felt 'snug' and feisty. Pressing outward, asserting itself against the small dimensions. A feeling of 'bottled-up' energies; a tight vibe and a compression which inspired people to huddle together and start up intimate conversations. And if you wanted calm, it was so dark and heavy inside you could find a quiet corner and no one would notice you for hours. A true drinker's bar; a place for serious alcoholism. Not a 'funland' or a 'playland' for kids. The old Monk inhabited a very gritty, cramped, brooding, narrow old block of 5th Avenue; a street which looks spooky and shady even on sunny days. Thick tree-trunks and overhanging limbs; narrow sidewalks all tilted from tree-roots. No other bars around. Just sad little 99 cent stores. A block where derelicts skulked along; begging cigarettes from you. A block with no sky or sun. This gloom was perfection. The new location (former BallyBunion bar) is on a much wider, brighter, cleaner, nicer avenue. Cheery. Upbeat. Very open to the sky. Its got streetlights at night. Its never really all that 'dark'. Worse, this incarnation of the Monk is flanked by a REMAX on one side and a bank(!) on the other. A bank! Both are brightly lit at all times and present big, bright, display signs. Ugh. Looks ...suburban. Cosmetic. Tidy. Sterile. The new Monk is now not some furtive, cagey, 'hole-in-the-wall' you duck into--as it was before--now its a large, gussied-up; sort of 'theme bar'. Too many people coming in and out all the time. Its aggressively pleasant and polite; trying to lure people in; promising comfort and hospitality. Inside, the space is large. Too damn large. There's no 'edges'. Its formless. You grope around trying to find a boundary. There are none. People mill around. Its not snug. It always feels as if someone is behind you; needing to reach past you; or that you're blocking someone. A good bar is more about walls than about open space. A good bar is about leaning or propping yourself up on something solid; reassuring. No need to constantly watch your back; or use peripheral vision. When you want to drink, you don't want to stand in the middle of an open area while people collide and ricochet all around you. But that's what the problem was with the old BallyBunion and that's still the problem now with the new Wicked Monk. All my observations amount up to the following conclusion: basically, the bar owners (I think) clearly want 'turnover' type of crowds rather than 'regulars'. Telltale clue: part of the facade is done up with that cheap, smoked-glass & aluminum sill treatment which you can see on any retail store anywhere. Its a "hey come on in folks; its alright, we're all about fun here, try our kid's menu" type of aesthetic. It's careful and conscientious. I'm dismayed. This is not what I want. All my good memories are with the old Monk on 5th ave and that's where they'll stay!

As a long time Wicked fan, (used to play darts at the old one back a million years ago) have to say I love what they've done to the old Bally Bunion. Great food, generous drinks, welcoming atmosphere-- this has rapidly become my sanctuary point.

This place is great. Great drinks. Great Bartenders and service. Great place to catch up with friends. The next time I am in the area I will definitely be back.

This restaurant/bar's decent reviews must come from it's bar patrons, as we certainly didn't have a great experience with the service or food at Wicked Monk. A few of us visited the restaurant for brunch on Sunday afternoon. Not only did the order take forever, every dish had something wrong with it (side of bacon? forgot. swiss cheese in the omelet? no cheese. side of french fries? oops, forgot again! medium burger? more like well done.), and one of our party's dish was totally forgotten all together - we had to wait 15 minutes for a burger to be prepared. The bloody mary consisted of a VERY watered down mix with a boatload of below-grade vodka, simply awful. Water glasses (and carafes) were left unfilled, as were our glasses of coke and cups of coffee. Service gets zero stars. Food wasn't awful, though it certainly wasn't what I ordered and lacked flavor. We WERE waiting for half our party for some time, but this ordeal took two and a half hours -- and this was to be a quick burger. Never visiting Wicked Monk again for a meal.
(2)Jonathan R.
The service at this bar was outstanding. They managed to keep the feel of the old place on 5th ave while updating the amenities to top quality. If you enjoy a good crowd away from 18s this is it.
(4)Jaclyn L.
Pool table? Check. Live cover band that's actually decent? Check. A phone booth that looks like a confessional? Check. Whether "you call my name just like a little prayer" or you wanna "hose me down with holy water if I get to hot HOT" I'd say this place is a perfect Saturday night sinner's escape. Better cross yourself, ask Father for forgiveness, and get into that confessional before you sin and try to hook up with well, just about anyone. I saw you cougars on the prowl looking at those 20 year olds....go home please? It was apparently Christmas in July the night I went with my sisters and their awesome friends and it was really a great time with drunken singing and dancing wayyy to close that might come off as dry humping. Bartenders keep it flowing as you say stuff like using God's name in vain: "Ohhh my gawdddd! I loveeee this song!!!" or covet your neighbor's things : "Ummm you gonna drink that?" Wicked Monk, I wish you taught me those four years of high school.
(4)Michael S.
Oyster were decent and wifed loved her Double cut pork chop, Dont order the ribs they were terrible, never had a rib that bad and the BBQ sauce tasted like it was made with grape juice....

WELCOME BACK, WICKED MONK!! We are Bay Ridge residents and have been to the new MONK twice now. We love it!! Great decor, terrific food, professional and crackerjack wait-staff and all of it VERY reasonably priced. Both times the place has been pretty full but the short wait for a table enabled us to experience the bar area and it's stunning wooden, vintage bar. The noise level is a bit high but we look forward now to going when there is music.
(5)Francis D.
Seriously dislike this place, too many immature adults acting like they're in High School. Not too long ago, there was a fight right in front of the bar, got really violent. The noise level is insane. It's really, really annoying. I wouldn't visit this place if it was the last place on Earth. Cheers everyone.

This review is for the new location at 9510 3rd Ave in Bay Ridge, Bklyn. The Wicked Monk took over the old Ballybunion space and (wisely) completely redesigned the flow of the bar. I went there on 10/21/12 for the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade "Halfway to St. Patrick's Day" fundraiser, so my first view of the place was in daylight with a small crowd at the bar. It was great because I had a chance to walk around and see the details that I never really noticed at the old Monk. The same dark wood and Gothic decor that gave the old location a cave-like feel has been paired with stone walls and really meshes to give an old Irish church feel. The woodwork, the stained glass windows, the pulpit, even the neon cutout over the bar are all back. (the inside of the cutout isn't painted yet, hopefully they will do that) Once it's dark out and the lights inside are down, it's hard to see all of the detail of the bar which is a little disappointing when you know how pretty it looks in the light of day. Bonus points for owners realizing the ladies don't want to miss a play either - tv in the ladies room! From what I heard, 3 tvs in the men's room. One thing I didn't like was two sinks and one soap dispenser, all the way to the right of both sinks, so you have to reach over someone for soap if you're at the left sink. The bartenders are friendly and worked quickly, especially once the bar was about 4 people deep. I can't really comment on the type of crowd because this was a fundraiser. I'm not sure how many people who attended were regulars of the old Monk or were just there for the event. The kitchen wasn't officially open yet, but they offered passed finger foods for free. The fried calamari is de-li-cious(!), as are the chicken skewers. I didn't try the Buffalo wings or sliders, but they seemed to go quickly every time a tray was brought out, so I'm sure they were good too.
(4)Stephanie M.
A cool bar in Bk with awesome service and good music, what more can you ask for? As a non-Brooklynite, it is a trek to get there from most places, but it's a fun place to jump up and down with a beer :)
(4)Vivian D.
I have enjoyed several lunches at the Wicked Monk, and I recently had the pleasure of a family reunion dinner on Saturday. My favorites include the Reuben spring rolls and the Fish and Chips, but the Shepherd's Pie was delicious as well. The waitress was very accommodating to everyone in my party, and knowledgeable about the specials available. I look forward to my next opportunity to bring friends and family to this restaurant.
(4)Marina S.
Decent local bar. Drinks are cheap, the crowd is down to earth, and the decor is awesome. It looks like an old church. I could have lived without the $5 cover charge for a bar in Bay Ridge, but there was live music that night. A cover band name Hello Brooklyn performed and they were great!

Last night was my third time having dinner at the new location for the Wicked Monk. We went to celebrate my nephew's 21st birthday and I asked him to pick any restaurant he wanted. I expected he would pick someplace like Peter Luger's, but he picked the Wicked Monk because the last time he went he loved the food and atmosphere. All three times the food was delicious. I had the Gaelic Steak and on the other occasions their burger .... simply delish. On top of great food the service has been outstanding. The manager came over several times to make sure that he had everything we needed and the waitstaff was very attentive. One of the nights I had dinner here, they had Music Bingo and my friend and I were talking so much we missed half of the songs ... someone came over and helped us catch up on everything we missed. We still lost but it was a good time :) Everyone is very friendly and very attentive without being annoying. I expect this will be one of my new local favorites and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for good food and a relaxing atmosphere.
(5)M D.
They did a nice job with the design of the place. The waitstaff need to be better trained, and need to provide better customer service. We ordered the Monk burgers and both of ours were overcooked. I felt the menu contained prices that were too high, and I would be surprised if the cook had the expertise to prepare meals that warranted those prices. Management needs to get a clearer sense of who their target market is. Stop in and see what you think.

Wicked Monk rules, when i was younger i did not like this place as much but i like it more and more as i get older. Pool table and dart boards in the back, always have good drink specials, and live rock music from local bands! Great place to knock back a few. The thing i like about Wicked Monk the most is the decor, it's just strange! You look up and you see a painted mural on the ceiling, strange masks with beret's and some gargoyle-type structures throughout the place...kickp-ass! I like to describe it as a rocking medeival irish goth bar, awesome place!
(4)Dan C.
The food is consistently excellent, huge portions, very roomy, and inexpensive. And the blond maitre d' -- I'm in love with her.
(5)Whiz D.
Very friendly staff and decent prices. Great environment in a great area. Cool photos on the wall as we.. I had customers calling me out of the blue in the evening after 7 and I asked the bartender for a pen and she hooked me up with paper and a pen and was very friendly about it!
(4)Alexandra M.
Definately not an ideal place for a young lady with any type of class. The clientelle is a little slimey in atmosphere. One night when the place was empty, the lady bartender was unfriendly, even after she was generously tipped 2 or 3 times. Hardly a whole shot in my grey goose/cranberries. Other times the staff/bouncers were simply unwelcoming. Not my scene. Only went because of the initiative of my company at the times.

I went for the first time on Halloween and I must say I was impressed with the decor. It was a great decision for them to move from 5th avenue to 3rd avenue. The space is fantastic compared with that cess pool that is lower 5th Avenue. As a residence of upper bay ridge they are attracting a lot of new faces that don't usually venture up past 86 street and whether it's a good thing or bad is yet to be seen. But I will say that the food is good and decor is 5 star. The bar was top notch and i wouldn't change a thing , based on the bar alone I will be visiting a lot more in the near future. I sampled a few things that were great; the fried calimari with shrimp was good. We ordered the fish & chips... also good! They could have gone with haddock which is more flavorful and complex and also holds up better to a deep fry than cod but cod is universally loved so no complaints. We ordered a burger which was OK. The meat was good and of obvious quality but it's more than just the meat that makes for a perfectly constructed burger. The choice of bread was over-reaching and too much for this burger; it actually doesn't work well and distracts. The burger is the star, not the bread. The patty was designed to fit into this small odd shaped bun and not flat enough to give you a sense of a big burger; it needed to be flat enough to cover the more standard size and even spill outside the bun, but sadly it was cooked to a size to cover such small bun. Solution? Get a bigger bun and widen out the burger, it disburses the flavor more evenly on the meat. The burger patty also was too tall to add tomatoes or even bacon, but again the burger was good just poor construction. Compared to The Kettle Black or Skinflints it lacks that well-crafted and well-stacked burger, not anything that cant be changed, it was GOOD and it was only the first time. I went go on about a burger because any good pub is measured by how good its burgers are. I am hoping that the upgraded location to 3rd Avenue also upgrades the clientele or at least makes them more respectful of the surrounding area. I do remember the freaks and weirdos who scream, throw bottles and blast insane music in cars and act completely retarded along lower bay ridge, which is probably the reason the place down there is a shit hole and was partly why they moved. Lets hope this place leaves those characters behind...
(4)Irina P.
Cheap flavorless staple food, great sports bar. Chicken wings were stale and too salty, fish n chips - meh, blah, wouldn't order food again there, though will come to this place for drinks again.
(2)T B.
The food is just NOT good. menu sounds promising but just doesn't do it. other than that, place came beautiful but i think the crowd is confused.
(2)Carlos C.
I like the Wicked monk, its cool looking, is that a confessional booth? Stain glass windows?. Church bar?. Nice drinks, supernatural vibes, and cool bar tenders.I just didn't like a patron, threatening me if I spilled her martini.I was like ok, I just got here and am sober, and you're a drunk hot mess. But I like this place and the pool table is real cool. Just a chill place to enjoy a nice drink.
(3)Michael G.
What a strange place. I wasn't too excited to pay a cover for a dice bar especially when we got there the place was completely empty; except for the pool table hogs that is. My friends and I left after about 30 minutes and headed down to bull shots. After a few extremely inexpensive cocktails and pool we headed back over to the monk. This time that place was pumping! Hipsters everywhere, strange Italians, a band and some decent music in between sets. Seeing how my friend lives in Bayridge I will probably be back...hopefully I won't have to pay a cover.
(3)Lindsey S.
5 stars for apparently planning to move to the old Ballybunion space. It's about time those in the 90's were treated to something more than another gourmet market!
(5)Jacen R.
This review is for the new location. It's a combo of my review and 2 responses on a post I put on their FB page. I went to the new location and my heart sank. The laid back and rock-ish vibe I loved from it being in a deconsecrated church is gone. Now we have a restaurant loaded with posers, a jukebox with nothing but crap on it and too much noise. The only good point was a rehash of Bally Bunion's menu. It just wasn't the same. The ambiance is bleak and the spirit is gone. The bartenders were doing their jobs well and with efficiency but not with the same jovial high spirited attitudes that I've seen before. Instead of feeling comfortable and homey it felt cold and business like. This wasn't like the Monk that I remember. No smiling, no laughing, strictly business. My ex-GF/now BFF and I used to end our night at The Monk for drinks and conversation in an atmosphere that we loved. She even had a birthday 'party' there in 2011 and all of our friends commented on how much they loved the ambiance and vibe. Yes, it's true there's money to be made, so be sure your restaurant is stellar because the only draw I see now is the food. The Monk I knew is definitely long gone. They may as well have changed its name, because in my opinion, this is no longer "The Wicked Monk" I miss the old/real Wicked Monk.
(2)Samantha F.
We finally tried the food at the Monk and I wish we didn't. It's an "Irish bar" that does not know how to make fish n' chips. $17 for two small pieces of soggy, tasteless fish and 3 pieces of broccoli and fries. What a ripoff. The staff was nice but we won't be back. What a shame...
(2)Melanie R.
Second time coming here!! Wooo hooo!!! Love this bar!! Great bartenders!!! Decor is bad ass!! There Live band Are usually really good!
(5)P B.
Ok so I NEVER write reviews but I have to on this place. I was a regular when they were on fifth avenue. I made many new friends there and i really LOVED the place. If you are looking for the same gritty, sawdust on the floor bar , you wont find that at the new location. But what you will find is a very refined version of the former place. The inside is beautiful and they really mastered putting the old into the new seamlessly. The 16 or so TVs alone make up for ANY sportsfan that wants to see the game and ANYWHERE you sit you can see a TV. The food is Fantastic. Ive tried almost everything on the menu and I like most of what ive had. Some of the "old" staff is working there and as always they are wonderful. Especially Kim, Tommy, Josh and Maria to name a few. The new serving staff is awesome like Annette and Clara. Very attentive and friendly. The new Tap beer selection is amazing. they always had a huge selection but they doubled it in size. i am not a beer drinker but for the beer person this selection is heaven. If your looking for the "old" Monk you wont find it here or anywhere else. That was an era in bar history that can NEVER be duplicated. The new place after 10PM on weekends can be a bit rough and way too crowded for me. But, i am glad to see that they have been so sucessful. I will continue to go and highly recommend it.
(4)Nicole W.
came here on my 21st birthday, the day after hurricane sandy, (i was living in sheepshead bay at the time) and was just in a horrible mood with no heat/power/water or any way of getting to a friends house to celebrate (trains werent working).SO my parents took me here to get me drunk. the bartender bought me a shot, made my drinks strong and i ended up having a pretty great 21st all things considered.
(4)James L.
Bartender really chill. Very laid back environment, nice local neighborhood bar. Selection of draft beers is pretty good and cheap. Nice vibe, would definitely come back again.
(4)Katherine F.
Decided on going there once because it's the closest bar to where I live, but glad I did. It's not too big, but the atmosphere is laid back and relaxed. The live band was pretty good (rock music) and playing popular songs. Went by myself, but had fun and fully enjoyed the drinks. The bartenders were nice and always made sure I was taken care of. Good place to unwind and have a good time.
(4)Denise R.
Let me start off by saying that the only reason that I came here is because my friend's band was performing, but man, I'm glad I did. The place itself isn't very big, but it's a cozy and very chill atmosphere. You have bras of drunken girls past hanging above the bar, which is pretty funny. The bartender I met was very nice and liked to give pretty girls free drinks!! If I didn't live so far away from this place I'd be a regular.
(4)Garret C.
I've been to the Monk a few times now and plan to go more as I've recently moved much closer. It's a cool bar, with good live music and reasonably priced drinks. On a crowded night there is definitely a chance of an invasion into your "personal bubble" depending on the size of yours...mine's HUGE, but that's just par for the course for me, lol. All kidding aside this place is worth a visit, it may not be the best bar in the neighborhood but with a pool table, dart boards and a friendly crowd you're sure to have a good time.
(3)Guillermo T.
Decent bar. The beers on top are clutch. They have blue moon! The specials are also pretty decent. The bartenders are very friendly and know they're sports. Its a great place to just relax and throw down a few beers. They also have a beer pong table, pool table, and a dart board. I would definitely go there if I'm in Bay Ridge.
(4)T G.
I might upgrade after/if they get their food stuff together (since they're new at it and it's a new location but right now wait service is pretty spotty (except for the blonde bus girl)). The decor is fun if not fake looking at times though - keep it dark and the acoustics are Loud. The food is a mixed bag. The Rueben spring rolls are a great idea for an appetizer but big enough to be a meal and clearly contain sinus clearing mustard in spots. If they can break that down into 3 or 4 smaller ones and offer the hot mustard as an additional dip, I think this could be a favorite. The onion rings were crispy and greasy, just as they should be. The mashed sweet potatoes were a pile of overly processed mush and overly sweet - easy to fix. The burger looked and tasted like your standard burger but the bun was huge and looked like it was going to eat everything in site -- kudos though for using the challah roll to bring some individuality to it. The accompanying beefsteak tomatoes are a huge plus. The calamari and shrimp dish is lightly battered and fried and the black pepper really works to lift flavors. The spinach and beet salad needs a redo. Way too much moisture in this salad -- between the spinach, the watery beets and the dressing it was an uneventful salty/sweet mess. The bar offers over 20 selections of tap along with bottles -- 7 stars for the beer selection. I don't know what happened to my cocktail -- by the time I got it was pretty much a watery mess. The bar has about 20 something t.v.s evenly spaced throughout though some too high to make for comfortable viewing; unfortunately the same game on all just doesn't cut it - get the package and/or work that out before football season is over, please. All in all, a nice option for food and beer and NY football.
(3)Candice F.
typical bar stop with tvs EVERYWHERE, so it's perfect for sports lovers. good after work/night spot. good service too
(3)Joe J.
I love this place. I went to NY earlier this year for about 12 days and 8 out of those 12 days guess where i went =) . The bartenders were awesome. They also have a cool shirt you can buy which bought back with me and everyone fell in love with.
(5)Ali G.
Very nice bar with attractive people. They usually have a good band playing, and the drinks are yummy. I can't complain. It does get a little tight in there, but fun none the less.
(4)Igor M.
Great atmosphere, live music, bunch of locals at the bar and very friendly and generously pouring bartender. What not to like?
(5)Andy H.
Wide variety of tap beers which always makes me happy when I hang out at a bar. They have a great crowd on weekends with live music. It is a little tight though once the crowd starts pouring in, but it is always fun to hang out at the monk.
(3)diana m.
This is a great local bar. Who can beat pool, live bands and booze? What more do I need to say?
(4)Ahuva T.
The Wicked Monk is a guaranteed feel-good good-time hang out. It's a great place to get a great buzz on. It's got a relaxed atmosphere, live music, good beer and decent booze - what more do you need at the end of a long day?
(4)Vinny F.
Not one of my favorite places to go in Bayridge but I still like the new monk better then the old. Better location , better food , and more beers in tap. My friend had his daughters baptism there the other day and I was somewhat impressed with the food they were serving. Irish pork loin, veggie Mac and cheese, chicken Marsala and roasted potatoes. But the one thing that caught my eye was that they had Summer Shandy on tap Had that all day Lol
(3)Concetta D.
The setting is really cool, maybe a few too many TVs for my taste but the over all look of the place is great. I love love the Mac and cheese!!! But they really need to work on service. When ever I go there to wear it takes forever for our food. The last time we waited 45minutes just for the apps. I always prepared myself for the long wait so I actually go earlier than I plan. We get a table fast enough it's just that everything else is in slow motion.
(2)Amanda M.
I made my fourth trip out to the Wicked Monk this weekend, and I am definitely a fan. The decor is over-the-top. It takes the gothic cathedral theme and runs with it! I can see how people could hate it, but I thought it was fun. It was like a weird disney land attraction. Some notable pieces include the stained glass "windows" that gradually change color, painted ceiling mural of monks getting their drink on, and small busts of the seven deadly sins lining the wall. My mom loved it. I've visited twice for lunch and one time for brunch, the first time I stopped in was just for the bar. Overall the food is surprisingly good. Not: mind blowing you must try this NOW!, but definitely on my list of places to grab a bite when out running errands. The menu is varied and they pay more attention than the average bar to their food. On my last visit I had the chicken salad sandwich which had large chunks of chicken, diced apples, and cranberries on a tosted bun. Yum! Other diners had the steak sandwich and beet salad. All were happy with what they received. Stay away from the crab cakes, the one time I tried them there was nothing to them but breading. Everything else I've had has been satsifying and the portions are large enough that I normally wind up with left overs. The service is friendly if slow. If you were looking to get in and out you may become a bit frustrated. The bar does cater to crowds watching games so it can get loud. The new Wicked Monk is very different from the 5th avenue version. While the old wicked monk will have a place in a lot of Bay ridgers hearts, I think the new one is carving itself a spot as well.
(4)Lisa D.
Having never experienced the original Wicked Monk, I can't comment on the new space on 3rd Ave. vis a vis the former location on 5th Ave. However, the current space has some pretty poor acoustics. I was regretting not having ear plugs on hand during my dinner here. That being said, they do offer a unique and fresh take on mac and cheese--with mushroom, caramelized onions, and Fontina cheese with breadcrumb crust--which easily serves two and is pretty reasonably priced, as are the drinks. Old school employees who hail from the Emerald Isle provide local color.
(3)Frank D.
Good place to drink watch the game .for some reason they think its ok to charge a cover charge when they have a band playing.Really ?People aren't there for any of those bands trust me.Dont pay a cover just go to 1 of the many other bars in bayridge and put your money towards drinks and food.
(2)S A.
Lobster Mac and cheese? YES PLEASE!!!! Went for drinks after work on a Sunday and the place was amazing! I loved the ambiance and they had a live band! Our waiter was great and on his recommendation I ordered the lobster Mac and cheese. My friend had a burger and we split a plate of calamari. While we chatted the time away the manager came over-so sweet! I think his name is Billy. I inquired about the decor and he was so knowledgeable about the place! I loved it! Our food came around and the lobster Mac and cheese was oh so yummy!!! The Mac was al dente and cheese not too sharp and the lobster perfectly cooked they even sprinkled bread crumbs on top to give that extra crunch. My friends burger looked really good and I must admit I stole a lot more of the fries than I should have. The calamari had shrimp! Didn't notice the menu but it says calamari shrimp combo! Anyway golden crispy and delicious! I can't wait to go back!
