date? wednesday, 8/5. time? 7:30PM. intent? to get VERY loaded at a friend's goodbye party. sadly, due to the mad painkillers for a bum ankle (thanks alot, UT), i did not get sauced - sure wish i could because there were some sweet specials. however, our little rowdy group may have possibly done the following: 1) devoted an entire album of "unique" pictures with my fan on FB. 2) unloaded the contents of wednesday's lunch into the one of the two bathrooms.* 3) after trying NOT to make eye contact for 1.5 hours, ran into a guy that we dated once ... and then had an awkward conversation about why we never called on the way out. yeah, yeah, it was totally ME, not YOU ... and your boring ways. who says alkie's necessary for a good time?** * - classy. ** - tear.

This place surprised me as I was waiting for Anchor Room to open next door, I popped in for a couple pints and some tv on the tv. They do have food, there are tables alongside the left and one larger table in the back by the kitchen. The bartenders here have a lot of fun themselves, it was nice to see. The Irish lass was incredibly pretty. The crowd was basically a couple groups of girls and younger folk, mixed with the regular crowd of older sportsmen, one of whom I think was the owner, because he was drinking like no tomorrow and kept cheering on Yao Ming on the telly. "YEAH YAO, YAO MING........OH COME ON......YAO!!!!!" loved it. My biggest problem with the place however, was that the music was LAME. well maybe not lame, just a bit pedestrian, suburban, a little too suburban. Case in point, Dave Matthews Band. Do you ever hear it in bars in the city? No. What did I hear last night? "Crush". If I wanted to wear a hemp necklace with my Grateful Dead tie dye, sandals, cargo shorts, ruffled baseball cap, slightly unkempt blonde hair, etc. etc., I'd go upstate. Some more songs: Journey of course, plus Don Maclean, I mean the list of just heartbreakers just kept going. They piled on the cliches like bats pile dung in caves.

I'm reading the reviews here thinking "Did I go to the same Emerald Pub as these people?" An old friend of mine just had a birthday party here and if it wasn't for the company I would of left after my first drink. It being the weakest drink I've ever had at a bar period. $9 for a rum and coke that tasted like water with a vague hint of cola and perhaps half an eyedropper of rum. I had a second thinking it may have just been the bartender, and it was just as bad. LAME! I liked the darkness of the bar itself and it would be nice if the music wasn't blasting so loud. Everyone was putting their ears to other peoples mouths so they could hear what was being said. Not a place for catching up on old times. That and on a Friday night at 11pm is was so dead you could feel the freezing night air rolling through the place. I would never ever go back here even if someone else was buying the drinks. It's out in the middle of now where and totally lame. It gets 1 star because I can't give it less. There are a million better pubs in NYC, with cheaper prices and much better atmosphere. I will not be back.

Came here with a friend to check out places to have my birthday party. It was cool until midnight when the music got so loud I couldn't hear myself think. Decided to leave and come back later to check it out again. When I came back it was so packed I couldn't even move. And some people were dancing with extra large glow sticks and it seemed very cheezy. Decided to go to Anchor next door.
(2)Marshall H.
This place is far off the beaten path. Let me just start with that. If you can get past that, you're in good shape. Here for a birthday party a few weeks ago, I was actually somewhat impressed. I think it must have been an off-night because the place was pretty empty and from reading other reviews it sounds like it can get busy. But when we were here there was plenty of space for: - dancing - lounging / space to sit - the hot bartender to dance on top of the back bar - drinking - talking with friends Now I'm not usually one to dance, but for those of you who are rhythmically inclined, there was space for it. Most importantly I was able to chat with my friends and actually hear them. The beer selection was just alright and I ended up drinking Blue Moon all night -- not my top choice, but respectable. It's not quite a pub (case in point: dancing) but it's certainly not at the level of a lounge. A MUCH better option than Anchor, which is the overflowing sweat-lounge next door. It was not pretentious at all, there was no line, no cover, drinks weren't really overpriced and overall it was a good choice for a birthday party, as long as your friends are willing to come all the way out there -- because it is especially a hike from the east side. Unless you are already close to SoHo, you may have some convincing to do.

Emerald's... Where strange men use the "reeling you in" move to try to get you to talk to them Where you can stand in front of a fire and stare at it because you are drunk and can't really focus on anything else Where you go to watch the Obama inauguration mid-day and they hand you a hotdog...

Had my 24th birthday there- I was looking everywhere for a place that had a good crowd, but didnt pack them in, good music, and a mix between a lounge and a bar. Well, I found it at Emerald Pub. Not only was the spot exactly what I was looking for, but the service was incredible. Damian, Pat and the bartender Andy treated me like a princess. All I had to do was ask, and Damian reserved the back room for me- free of charge. Andy was more than generous with the free shots for me and my party-goers. I will definitely be back here and highly recommend it for anyone looking to plan a party.

Went to emerald pub this past weekend for my gf's birthday. We chose it based on the reviews here - mainly that people went to the Anchor, didn't like it, went to Emerald Pub and had a great time. Well, Emerald Pub lives up to what the reviews say: Crowded enough not to be lame, but not overly crowded. Music was great. Bouncers, bartenders and manager were all friendly. Prices were good, and the whole place had a good, laid-back feel to it. I'd definitely go back.
(5)Kai B.
This place is great. I was only on my second or third visit and the bartender already knew my usual order. On Thursdays during the summer they grill free burgers, wings, and hot dogs on a grill by the back door during happy hour (before 8pm). There's a good selection of draft beers, and the kitchen food is also good.
(5)Nikolai B.
Cool dive bar, perfect for those of you who go to bars to DRINK not bullshit. The bartender Christie is dope! Turned an uneventful night into something more pleasurable. I recommend heading over on a sunday to enjoy her company before some other bar snatches her up.
(5)Christina M. R.
Screw the Anchor (I used to love Anchor and then they screwed up my birthday--but you know who redeemed my birthday? Emerald! That's who!). Emerald Pub you are my hero. I drank. I danced. I sat on big cushy seats. I made out with a boy named Showtime who mows lawns for a living. (I have nothing against landscaping but with a nickname like Showtime, shouldn't you be in a rap video somewhere?) Clean bathrooms--even the men's room was clean (yes, I wound up in there when I had to pee). Fun music. Fun people. Nice bartenders who know their stuff. Nice bouncers who told me I didn't look my age and kept wishing me a happy birthday (most likely because I kept telling them it was my birthday every time I passed by them). Some locals and some passersby. Emerald rocked my birthday casbah. If I could, I'd marry it.
(5)Ken S.
One of my absolute favorite bars in the city! Always a great time. Fantastic service from some of the city's friendliest bartenders, even when the place is brimming with people. Great decor which is far more polished than an average Irish Pub. Perfect place for a drink after work or a night out with friends. Good crowds Thursday to Saturday night, but with plenty of room to move around. Best thing about the place in the spring and summer is that there's also free BBQ for everyone on Thursday nights. Be sure to check this place out.
(5)Annie T.
I was here for their NYE party. Space was pretty decent but being that it was NYE, it was definitely overcrowded. The music was decent and the staff friendly. I can see why this is a popular destination for corporate monkeys to unwind. Drinks were typically priced. I liked this place because it wasn't pretentious.
(4)Matt K.
Great Irish pub with a great happy hour and friendly bartenders. I can only speak for the weekdays (I'm sure it gets full of Anchor spill-over during the weekends, as evident by some of the other reviews), but if you're looking for a no-nonsense post-work spot to knock a few back, you can't go wrong.
(3)Demo K.
good staff, great drinks
(5)Ria S.
I researched places, asked for recommendations and searched all the review sites looking for the perfect place to have a get together with 10-12 people for my 23rd birthday, and thanks to the amazing reviews of this place across the board, I chose it, and it was such a great pick! I reserved the back room, and my friends (who had never been there either) said they all loved it as well. I might just make it my annual birthday spot! Thanks Yelpers, for such a great tip!!! Highly recommend this place for awesome service, STRONG drinks and accomodating/friendly staff!
(5)William B.
I had to put my lower east side snobbery away for this one. I'm going to be honest here. When it comes to going out, I'm lazy and condescending towards bars/lounges/clubs that aren't in my area. I was pleasantly surprised by this establishment. Would have never gone here on my own because its just far away from where I live but I'm glad I went. As a single new yorker, this place is a goldmine. So many gorgeous people here for both the men and the ladies. Mixed drinks run $7 which isn't great but they are relatively strong. It's a relatively small place so its easy to sit down and talk to people or dance to the music. If you're looking for a change check this place out.
(4)H S.
After witnessing the Emerald Pub on a Saturday night, with all of 4 chairs at the bar, no seats (??) at their cute little lounge tables, "reservation" signs at their cute little lounge tables (but only the ones with seats, of course), and of course, mediocre-bad service, I think I knew right off the bat where this Yelp review was headed. I wanted to give them another chance, but after shutting off the Celtics/Heat playoff game in the 4th quarter, I gave up on that hope.
(2)M L.
the music was good, drinks were awful, crowd was ok. The female bartender ignored me but served all of the non-colored people around me. The drink was terrible. I didn't give her a tip and charged my credit card. She added a tip herself. I looked at my credit card bill to discover her tip. Needless to say, I disputed it as I still have the receipt and the pub needs to prove that I gave a tip based on what I signed. I'd rather go to classier places closer to the nightlife and won't sneak in a tip.
(1)Becky F.
found this place totally from reviews on yelp! thank you soo much to everyone. I made a divorce party and had a great time. they gave my group the back area with its own bar. plus the bartender gave my friends like 8 shots on the house. really like the place and atmosphere but the only thing is that there is a jukebox where you have to put in money to play songs vs DJ. but otherwise a must stop by!
(4)Ari M.
when The Anchor next door got too crowded, i went inside the emerald pub, and they had surprisingly good music and a lighter atmosphere. fun for a few drinks before hitting the town hard.
(4)shilpa p.
my co-workers will probably all shoot me, but this bar just isn't my style. its pretty roomy, and while i can appreciate dive bars as much as the next person, its a little too divey for me.
(3)Lacey R.
The staff was great - funny and friendly - but I was slightly disappointed in the atmosphere. I only had one beer so I don't know how the other drinks were, and the music is definitely played too loud. It was a struggle to try and speak to anyone. It also leaned towards the empty side for a Saturday night, but at least the music that was playing to loudly was good! I would try it again.
(3)Rachel H.
this place was DEAD when i went here on a tuesday after work. that was totally cool with me because it meant my friends and i all had bar stools, and easy access to the bartender. the beers were all $4. not a huge variety on tap, but enough to get by. also, did i mention they were $4? the place did have kind of a weird layout. the bar itself was standard, but then there were lounge-y areas around the perimeter that weren't all that inviting. still at least it's fairly spacious, and definitely plenty of seating and tables to go around. good place to hit up if you're growing weary of antarctica. also they were blasting the stones.
(3)Keenan M.
Fled The Anchor and ended up here. Great prices, great service, not too loud, and not too crowded. Emerald Pub saved my night!
(5)Taylor M.
I was really looking forward to going here last night after reading the reviews, but unfortunately I can now confirm that the place is frat boy hell and filled with drunk, slutty-looking girls in too-short dresses. (Offended by that? Then you just might be one of them.) I didn't end up staying that long, which was a good thing -- I might have completely lost my hearing. People kept picking late 80's and mid-90's favorites that gave up the ghost a decade ago, yet somehow the whole bar was still scream-singing them over the insane volume of the music. Case-in-point: A friend was standing less than a foot away and she had to yell in my ear to be heard. It's that loud. Add the fact that the aforementioned girls are dancing with their drinks, and you get a mini Gin & Tonic shower just by standing near them. Fun times. Not to mention it's way the heck in Tribeca next to what looks like another bar populated by drunk, slutty girls (the Anchor, I believe). Not recommended unless you're actively looking for some bump-and-grind from the fratty types that hang out here.

I hadn't been here for awhile, and when I went back last night I was pleasantly surprised. I remembered it being somewhat crowded and cluttered the last time I went, but last night was a whole different experience! The layout here is a lot of open space in the middle, with cute tables and booths (I mean really cute) lining the entire perimeter of the space. The result is a rare balance of coziness without clutter, and since everyone has a spot of their own, the bar was never crowded. Amazing! Why can't more bars pull this off? The music also threw me for a loop -- it was an awesome mix of everything from Daft Punk to Miguel. I was there with an eclectic group last night, and i think almost everyone heard at least one song that made their eyes light up with surprise. That's always such a treat at a bar that you're not even expecting to have music at all. Drinks were cheaper than most bars I've been to in the city - my cider was only $5. Maybe it was a special, maybe Emerald Pub is that special, or maybe I'm special. Or ALL OF THOSE
(4)Victoria B.
It was ok until I checked my bank statement. I ordered five shots, so I left a five dollar tip on my check. A few days later I notice my bank statement and the tip amount was $14! They changed the tip I left. Now I can't get in touch with anyone at the bar. I call almost every day. For the record, I was not drunk. I had one shot and that was my only drink for the night. So I know what I put as the tip. Beware of this place. Use cash.

Went by here last night and it's closed down.

The Emerald Pub is a lovely Irish Pub in the area, they have good valued mixed drinks (under $18) and beers... Which is definitely a hard find in this area. This place is especially fun during the summer as somethings they have the grill going! There is also a half off happy hour- and I think that's pretty damn awesome. The music here is fun, there is a small dance floor and seating on the perimeter of the pub. If you can't find a spot at a table, squeeze in by the bar! The bartenders here are friendly and make drinks quick. It definitely isn't a super swanky or fancy place, but it's a low key, laid back place to order some drinks to throw back. The few times I've been here, it's been an overall relaxing and enjoyable night at the bar.

Cool little hang.
(4)Ted C.
I didn't know the name of the place so I followed one of my co-workers because they called it 'vinegar bar.' Basically, because of the smell. There is a pretty funky smell coming from it, probably from some of the people there. I'm not rushing to say regulars since the people were escorted from the bar about 20 minutes after I walked in. The draft selection is pretty small, but the expected number of craft/craft-y beers. My two Goose Island IPAs cost me 10 bucks with tip so I can't really knock this place too much. Vinegar bar FTW
(3)Jackson G.
Disclaimer: I've only been here during the day That's right, I drink during the day sometimes. Not because I'm an alcoholic, but because I got it like that. A quiet Irish pub with a fireplace and a friendly bartender. The place was pretty quiet, because - you know, 2pm on a wednesday. I heard this place gets pretty busy on the weekend and plays loud pop music, so I'm glad I found it during the day, when I could order a nice (perfectly pulled) pint of Guiness and relax at a table, quietly reading my book and convincing myself I am more interesting than I actually am. This is your basic, no-frills, old-school Irish pub - a good one, but nothing to write home about. Excellent Guiness, nice people. I'll be back
(3)Peter K.
Happy to have came here. A good spot kept on the DL. $4 beer until 8. Cool bartender. Definitely a good neighborhood spot to hide some famous people who just want a beer ::hint hint::
(3)Eve S.
We met here for my friends birthday-its okay they set aside an area for us and were pretty liberal with the alcohol content in drinks. I just find it hysterical that there is this dive on spring street (that in all fairness has been there way longer than that Trump monstrosity) They provided us with menus to order from somewhere-I have no idea where that was. The staff was nice enough. *shrug*
(2)Wes F.
Here's a tip: don't go to this bar. This place is where dreams go to die. I'm sitting in here now. It smells like urine, and there's a guy passed out on the bar. I've yet to determine if the two are linked.
(1)Jess L.
I was feeling pretty lukewarm about this pub to begin with. While the decor is a bit sexy-pub, the crowd is loud and drunk. There's a weird stair and lip across from the bar that I was shoved into numerous times. The line for the bathroom was forever long. It's too loud. But then walking from the back to get outside was hellish. I got slammed into numerous times, spilled on, and blocked on multiple occasions, just going a few yards. I can see why this bar is popular, I guess, but I won't be coming back. Highlight: go to the back of the bar and try to figure out what the painting across from the bar says.
(2)Mia F.
we had the misfortune of being invited here for a birthday. one must ask themselves why would you invite someone here for a bday. first of all; the guy at the door barely cards people; some yes and some no which is indicative of the management at this irish bar. thats what this is an irish bar(like in midtown) once inside you cannot help but recall fond memories of the locker room in high school when the stinky girls never showered(i'm being kind here; place smells like a open sewer in the summer) milling about you can't help but notice the immature idiots walking around with inflatable penus and such. obviously, they cannot get in anywhere and thats what brought them here. no experience is to be had here; the same songs keep getting played over and over; but i guess its all good bc most of the people here are so out of their mind drunk and drugges they don't notice. and oh; they charged me 8.00 dollars for a heineken. my boyfriend fell off the stool. bartender was ok . i wont even mention the bathrooms . that gift is for you; if your brave enough or must go. as i stated above; why would you invite someone here.
(1)Varun V.
Fun times. While all the other places on this block had a line- with horrible bouncers outside - we got right into Emerald Pub! Felt like i was back in Jersey. Ohhhhhhhhhhh yeah! *Fist pump. No no seriously - awesome music, the non-pretentious people, and the cheap drinks. Dancing too. Optional.
(4)Dan R.
Emerald Pub, as of late, has been a go-to after-work bar for my office crowd and who can complain about a full-bar half-off happy hour? I surely can't. The dim lighting and overall dark mood do a good job of masking the divey aspect of it all, the bartenders and bouncers alike are more than friendly, and the drinks are strong like bull. Naturally, this place gets a lot of leftovers from Sway and The Anchor, so it's easy to write it off as second-rate. Sure, there are no celebrity DJs spinning 'til the sun comes up, but Emerald Pub never positions itself as such and deserves to be a destination all its own, at least for a few libations after a long day at the office. A warning to the weak - it is almost effortless to get drunk here. Emerald Pub really doesn't do "buzzes". It's one of those seedy bars where even the beer magically seems to double in stiffness. Keep the expectations low, your tolerance lower, and you're good to go.
(3)Himanshu G.
I really liked this place. Has a nice feel to it, wasn't too crowded, good music playing, drinks were nicely priced and my friends told me that their drinks were all really strong so definitely worth the money. The bartenders were really nice and let me use my credit card even if I didn't fully meet the minimum requirement. I will definitely be coming back here.
(4)Andrew Christian C.
Christie, our bar tender was amazing. Some friends and I stumbled in here on a quiet Sunday night and she helped make the best of it. Turned into a mini dance party. I experienced my frist pickle back here and had a great photo shoot. Skip Greenhouse and head straight to the Emerald.

A review for people with ADD So I'm reading the Wall Street Journal last week, and they have these brief lists of recommended DVD's. (I love lists) The movie: "After Hours" (Martin Scorcese) Since this movie is filmed in NYC (which I collect) I drop the order in seconds on my iPhone Amazon app. I get the movie the next day, along with a book I'm reviewing. I read my book, while I'm watching my movie, and on comes an exterior shot of Emerald Pub (then called Terminal Bar or at least for this movie) So, of course I need to Google that, to find its location. 308 Spring Street, now called Emerald Pub. Duly noted on Yelp for this review. As I read my book, a short story essay involving Scotch, brings to mind that pub, and I think. "That would probably be a cool bar to hang out, drink Scotch, and read a book at the bar, like so many literary types I've admired in the past. (When is this guy going to get to the review?) All in all, this is a good place. I can't speak to after work crowds, or this as a "destination", since it's a little out of the way, but if you have a need to feed your obsessive compulsiveness for finding obscure movie scenes, this a good bet. Atmosphere: Cool Bartenders: Funny Scotch: Helpful The rest is mystery.

$4 drinks ALL day from noon to 8pm!!! $5 top shelf stuff all day from noon to 8pm!! During the summer. free hot dogs and burgers on Thursdays and Fridays with drinks?!?!?! BLASTING COLD AC to save you from the blistering sun?!?! Good music, jukebox, fun staff.
(5)Lizzie L.
Not enjoy the music
(2)Stephanie C.
This is the best place to go after work!! On Thursdays and Fridays 5-8pm they grill hot dogs and mini burgers, FREEE w/ your purchase of a drink!!! Can it get any better than this? Oh and drinks are only $4... =D Plus they play good music.
(5)Joanne G.
Great! Finally a place that I could actually go to the bathroom. I would have bought a drink but I didn't know when I would find another bathroom. Maybe next time. The Bartendress was awesome!
(4)justin p.
I came here to Pre-game before hitting up the pricey anchor next door. And I did a little post game after. It was good. Theres a little dancing a lot of drinking and a good amount of lounging around on nice furniture. I remember almost passing out on a couch/chair. A nice place and cheaper than the anchor and the bartenders are 10 times the friendly. Recommended
(4)Michael P.
Went here around midnight on a Saturday. We had originally went to Sway across the street. Just as they were lifting the velvet rope to let us in, we were like wait we have a fifth person coming over now! He comes over and walks over to some guy on line with a hat on and says "Im with top hat over here." So the door lady was like OK now you are not coming in. So thanks to drunk friend we were not getting in. So off to the emerald pub. Drinks were priced @ $6 for a beer, $7 for mixed drink and the mixed drinks were very strong. Music was a constant stream of cheesy crap. It was bad, even when I was trashed. Not entirely a dive bar, and not a club/lounge. Probably I would classify it as a nice bar that plays music at night. Crowd was very mixed with some older people and some younger people. Girl to guy ratio was not horrible though. As other people have said, this area is way out in the middle of nowhere, and you pretty much have 3 choices over here, so if you want to go out here, make sure you want to spend the night at 1 place.
(3)scott s.
Didn't stay here for long. Was it a bar? A Pub? A Lounge? Make up your mind!! ALSO It says food & Spirits.. They only serve tortilla chips...

BIRTHDAY PARTY REVIEW This is delayed but in Oct 2010 I had my bday party (about 15ppl) here and it was a ridiculous good time. I got super lucky stumbling upon this gem while traipsing around town. The music: amaze-a-balls. Staff: was incredibly friendly and accommodating AND we had a reserved space with no $ down. It's gonna be hard to top this year. We stayed all night - and had no intention of bar hopping. Friends still talk about what a good time it was, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
(5)Alison C.
I went to the Emerald Pub last night for the first time in about a year, and boy has it changed! What was once a grungy Irish pub with a lot of character and a bar full of space for me and my coworkers is now a trendy lounge decorated like a gothic ski lounge and packed with a classier after-work crowd. They have an amazing happy hour with 1/2 price drinks (ALL DRINKS!). I was able to get an Absolut with club soda for just $4!! They have several large tables with long, comfortable booths and tons of barstools, making it a great place for large groups. The jukebox is full of classic, sing-a-long rock tunes. The Emerald Pub is definitely worth checking out, because you WILL have a good time here!
(4)Jenna W.
Landed at the lounge next door with $10 drinks and a line. Entered, bought 2 expensive drinks and ended up leaving 10 minutes later because it was so crowded... Left and headed next door to Emerald Pub. What a gem! Good bartenders, solid drinks, cheap and an amazing bouncer name Daniel. Going through some life shit right now and he listened to me bitch and moan while drunk and totally cheered me up :) Thanks Daniel! Anyway, great spot for a more relaxed evening in the midst of lounges. I had to take one star away for the bathroom. The women's bathroom is a stall with a sink and no stall door... just pee in the open! The main door to the room itself has a lock, but when you're shitfaced and really have to go to the bathroom, you don't always look for a lock on the outside door, but a stall door. AWKWARDDDDDDDDD. :)
(3)Alex G.
Pluses: $6 for Yuengling, good liquor selection, very friendly staff, and a great space (they manage to have two bars and enough space for mingling/dancing--truly a commendable use of NYC real estate), close to the subway, and not too crowded. Minuses: Far from everything else (kind of--SoHo west of Sixth Ave is kind of a ghost town on the weekends except for the few bars in the area), awkward crowd (so many girls who couldn't handle 3" heels or guys who didn't get the memo that striped button downs over solid-colored t-shirts went out with Bush II), and the men's room was just a toilet, urinal, and sink with no lock. Maybe I'm a bit prudish, but I like more privacy than that.
(3)Robert J.
Good people. Good fun!! Good Times!! And Black irish Pat keeps everything in line!!! Fabulous Pint of Guiness and Jagermeister in the ice cold machine!!!
(4)Gerald H.
Half Priced Happy Hour, Dancing Girls From Nearby Ad Agencies, Couches and a FIREPLACE. This is a great Happy Hour bar. Drinks are a bit small but at $3 who cares, I'll take 9!!
(4)anni b.
Went here post work on a Monday night and come 9:30, our group were the only people left, which I found kind of lame and depressing. Drinks were fine, I guess, but what I had a problem with was the atmosphere. I has the feel of a dark, Irishey pub dive bar, but it feels like a total facade. Not authentic in the slightest. There is a huge shortage of bars in this area, so go here if you must. Especially when Antarctica has been closed by the health department and Sway doesn't open till ten.
