I've been going to Ellie's Diner for the past 10 years and loving it. The service is friendly, attentive and efficient and the food is good too. I used to come here every Sunday with my mom for brunch and that's definitely their rush hour. The food is definitely your run-the-mill diner food, but I've also left satisfied. The prices are also awesome and totally reasonable. If you love the family-diner vibe and a filling meal for a great price, definitely come to Ellie's Diner!

Ellie's is first and foremost a diner. Period. Once you get that, prepare to be consistently pleased. While busy on Sat/Sun mornings, Ellie's has good service with quick turnover, and is moderately full the rest of the time. The good: Friendly service, lots of different classic diner options, low price. The bad: It's true that their "grilled chicken" isn't actually grilled (cooked on griddle), and other items are not homemade (onion rings, ect.). The deal: go here if you want fast classic diner options, but don't expect a ton of stuff cooked from scratch or New American cuisine.

Its a cool Diner and really the only in Parkchester. They have their days where the food is really good and some days where its just okay. They deliver which is perfect for those days where you just want to stay in. They are usually very busy but the service is always professional and friendly.

Always friendly - and a very decent nabe diner! Not sure what people expect here at such good prices also. I've been to diner in the ritzy nabes in Manhattan that were not half as good.

If I could give zero I would.... Under new management and the food tastes awful....skimping on everything.ordered steak suppose to come with baked clams they just omit what they dont want to give you, turkey dinner with dressing(stuffing} consists of two halves of a piece of white bread under your turkey . Take out orders are a disaster ask for something like mayo you will never get it even though you request it.Panini sandwiches that use to be done properly are just thrown on a ciabbatta roll its nasty.....food is nasty ....so nasty.......service is awful

Good food, cheap prices, and efficient service. A nice neighborhood escape which proves that Bronx prices truly beats city ones - and for good value too. Here you can get $3 wine and beer, sip on a $2 cappuccino topped with whipped cream and cinnamon, and enjoy a decent bowl of $3.25 french onion soup. They have a wide selection of fries (spicy curly fries, cheese fries, chili cheese fries--you get the picture), many burgers/sandwiches for lunch/dinner and breakfast is served anytime (try their delicious belgian waffles and you won't be disappointed). One tip: if you're going to get the grilled cheese with bacon - good but ask for dill pickle on the side to balance out the cheese. ;) Also, try their buffalo wings. Next time, I am ordering their fried chicken in a basket. It sounds like it was made for me.

the food is simple but it's so good. and it's in generous portions. service is amazing. love this place and the decor. gotta be my fave restaurant in parkchester.

This place used to be good when they were on metropolitan ave years ago, now the place isn't worth the half hour wait for a bacon egg and cheese. I ordered two eggs with bacon and cheese on a roll with a side of crispy French fries and what I received after waiting over a half hour was one egg with burnt bacon and hardly any cheese on a burnt hero with a side of French fries that looked steamed instead of fried and had to pay almost ten dollars for the garbage that their cooks call food, if your in parkchester don't go to Ellie's ! Step ins by the train is the best in the neighborhood !

A gem of a place in the heart of Parkchester. Great Cheeseburger Slider Meal, breakfast, lunch & dinner always satisfactory

I can only comment about food I did have in few visits + deliveries I had @ Ellie's, and it was horrendous. I had greasiest Fettuccine Alfredo with zero flavor. It was as if the pasta was dumped in a pool of butter. Their Belgian waffles were soggy and sausages were burnt. Their breakfast combo is abundant but with no flavor. Only thing that was half decent was their oatmeal, but that really shouldn't be a highlight of a diner. Also, whoever takes their delivery order doesn't heed much attention because I got wrong orders twice in a row, and I never ordered take outs from them ever since.

One of my favorite BX - Parkchester spots to dine for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Good food, good service and generous portions! What more could a goody ask for?

I have been going here for the last 18 yrs. great diner food for sure. Staff are all very nice. It's family owned, reasonable priced. Very busy place so at times you might have a bit of a wait. But it is well worth it. The diner moved from their original location a few years back. But it did not affect their business negatively by any means. Only downside, parking is very hard in this neighborhood so walk if you can.

Ellies has been my go-to diner since I was a teen. I feel at home there. The place was run by a wonderful family, but they recently sold the restaurant. Thankfully they kept the same staff, so the food & service are as good as always. Their burgers are delicious, you can't go wrong with them. The open chicken pita is to die for- healthy & yummy. The chicken quesadillas are also a must-try.

  • M B.

Pretty good for Bronx. We had breakfast today and there was a ten minute wait. Portions are pretty good. And the pancakes bacon sausage eggs were tasty. A lot of locals come here to chill and eat their breakfast on the weekends. By noon the wait time seems to be longer

  • Joshua R.

There is nothing special about Ellies except for the food and prices lol. The food is delicious its typical diner food and the prices are so low on breakfast specials. You can eat a nice big meal for under 10 bucks. I gave Ellies a 5 because their service is excellent they are very friendly and the service is always consistent on being attentive which alot of places lack. Ellies is the popular diner in Parkchester it sometimes can be a wait to get a table but it's not that bad. Not only is Ellies breakfast delicious, their dinner platters are delicious as well. They have great specials on their dinner menu for under 15 bucks which includes a drink. If you're looking for a good meal and not come heavy out of the pockets Ellies is a great choice.

  • Mental K.

Simple good food, so not anything wild. Noticed small portions now then before. Ordering over the phone always a hassle. Two nice females answering calls taking orders then have to wait as the manager takes information. (Hassle much) That's if it's not busy, shows business maybe understaffed. They should have online delivery option.

    (4)
  • Andrea V.

Under new management now and food tastes bland and portion sizes has shrunk. It's like eating hospital food. Home fries are just boiled potatoes no seasoning. Yuck. I'm not finishing my breakfast today... Coffee sucks....

    (1)
  • Diana N.

Ellies has it all....from salmon, breakfast platters, to cuban sandwiches and everything in between. I must say their food is a bit on the bland side sometimes, but they give so much food for cheap prices. Their staff is always friendly and have good service turn around times for both delivery and in house.

Great lunch and dinner specials! See the menu on the table. Soup or salad, soda or wine, entree and dessert for less than 15.00! My favorites include split pea soup, meatball soup, chicken francese served over pasta, chopped steak with grilled onions and a sweet potato and grilled veggies served with toasted, buttered potato bread followed by jello with whipped cream. It's a diner, don't expect gourmet, but it's good food and their specials will leave with enough leftovers for lunch. Breakfast is also yummy, quick and cheap. Eggs cooked perfectly, generous portions of bacon, and I love their silver dollar pancakes! Ask them to bring butter because as consistently as the bacon is tasty, the toast is never buttered fully.

    (5)
  • Floreen W.

Again, I must reiterate, because I so do NOT want this to happen to anyone else. If you ask for a menu DEMAND that they give you one! It's illegal for them to refuse you one by saying things like ..."We don't have them to hand out, we only have them in house. " They'll be charging you anything! Look up the restaurant on grub hub if you don't want to be taken! INSIST ON A RECEIPT! And lastly, trust your own gut, don't be a FOOL! That's your HARD EARNED MONEY! That was MY HARD EARNED MONEY, that I lost to the tune of nearly $45 most of the time!

  • Ava S.

Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and vanilla shake for delivery and it was horrid. The bacon was so hard and old it mustve been left over from the week before breakfast. The cheese was melted on the bun and not the hamburger itself. Speaking of hamburger, it was so dry and bad, no straw for my milkshake, the "lettuce" was so big and bulky i had to take a knife and cut it so it can fit on my burger. So so disappointed especially at the price of $14.

As a local supporter of small business stores and restaurants, I have to remain honest and say that Ellie's Coffee Shop is not restaurant quality food! A diner is not obligated to serve microwave food..come on, you're better than that! The customer service was excellent but like every other hungry person, we don't care about that as much as what's ready to eat in front of us. In a nutshell, if don't know how to microwave food, then this place will be the right place for you to visit.

  • Melissa S.

I typically go here for breakfast and it's really good and super reasonable! One Sunday I paid $6.75 for 2 eggs, bacon, fries, toast, small oj and coffee. Not bad! Not to mention they're fast and service is good. Forget Step-Inn's. They changed their menus and only serve brunch after 11am #womp!

I have been going to Ellie's for years. There food is pretty good for the most part. The selection isn't bad either. The specials work out for a decent price and it's pretty much one of the only diners in the neighborhood. Service is subject to vary. One day you have phenomenal service and next day your waiter could seem to be lost. One thing that I can say about Ellie's is that they are pretty solid all around. Breakfast is my favorite of all times to go but brunch is always satisfying. Dinner I only eat occasionally and feel as if they miss a bit on quality.

    (4)
  • Ashley W.

Food is good, but get ready for them to mess up your order! Some of them have a shorter attention span then most. I enjoy the food here, but I only go if I have time to waste for them to fix my order or make it again!!!

    (2)
  • Adam S.

It's a decent American diner. I've only tried the pancakes, and a sausage with egg and cheese, and it was decent. It's always packed on weekends and there's no music, which seems weird. The decor could use some redecorating. But, staff are friendly and food comes quickly.

    (3)
  • Geo F.

The staff is awesome and friendly....BUT The fact that this rates 4 stars on here disturbs me. If you order the grilled chicken you can expect to have it pan-fried instead. Everything here seems to be cooked right out of the box and is over refrigerated. The hamburger meat patties come straight from a box and are the sh*ttiest quality meat you will ever taste. It wouldn't surprise me to find traces of horse in it (if its even real meat). It smells. It's owned by a Greek guy whose idea of Tzaziki is cream cheese. WTF. If you are desperately hungry, it might work. If you are looking for a family night out, you might have a better time digging in the garbage behind your favorite Chinese restaurant.

This is a go to spot in the neighborhood for cheap and quick breakfast. I usually dined at ellie's for lunch or breakfast and during the week so I can't comment on dinner or weekend brunch. Overall the service is good and the food always comes out very fast. I always go with the omelette and its always hits the spot. Its a nice size omelet and the homefries are good. The soups are ok. usually I go with the Yankee bean when its available. With the speedy service you would expect hiccups but i can honestly say i never had to send anything back. Its old school diner so you pay at the counter when you get your bill which is cool since you don't have to wait for your waiter/waitress to grab your bill. Overall a good breakfast spot in Parkchester. Only issue is that they arent open super late for a diner..

  • Gabriella K.

I find the food to range from okay to subpar. It definitely is a place I would order simple items such as grill cheese, turkey club, burger etc., Their main entree dishes are usually not tasty or don't seem fresh especially their fish dishes. Their service also is inconsistent with some servers being out right rude. I also have experienced twice where my food order was incorrect and witnessed the server and the cooks arguing about the mistake! After my last experience, of tasteless, lukewarm food I decided I would not be returning.

Ellie's is a cheap diner/breakfast spot, located in the heart of the Parkchester area. 3.5. Is it the best diner in the Bronx? Best breakfast ever? Fluffiest eggs this side of town. No lol BUT! They served up a decent side of sausage and their waffles are relatively tasty. Their scrambled eggs, though, look ... Tired lol best (and weirdest) description I can provide. The hash browns were crispy. Also, since the place gets pretty packed, it seems part of an order is often forgotten.

As a sort of warning, I'm only writing this review seeing this diner as an occasional dip in the neighborhood. And might I say that this is quite a good dip. Ever since their relocation into the Metropolitan Oval, I find it to be very convenient whenever I get too deep in the mall and decide on some quick lunch. Overall, the food is of great quality, the waiters are kind, and the decor and spacing of the place is huge and homey.

I patronize Ellie's frequently. It is one of the only diners that I know of with delivery. Big plus. Even dining in I enjoy it. I love the chicken tenders and waffles. It's a huge portion for a great price. If you are dining alone you can watch one of the two flat screen TVs. You have the option of table seating or counter seating. The wait staff is cordial and attentive.

I've eaten here before and it's been good. Decent food pretty quick service. I don't know what was different about today. But the food was plain the delivery took an hour and so far I have found 3 strands of hair in my food. Which, not even half way through has completely ruined my appetite. If my meal wasn't only 7$ I'd complain. Buy for that little its not worth it. I wont be eating there again though.

Reminded me of a simpler time when a cheeseburger with fries at a restaurant was $6.50 and not $15. It also reminded me of a time when restaurants had wood booths, tables, chairs, and pretty much everything else...one termite breakout and they're F'd! My parents owned a place like this so I'm a sucker for them every time I travel.

I love this diner so much! It has great food and reasonable prices for them too. I love coming here for my chicken in a basket for $10.25! Its DELICIOUS! I recommend everybody from Parkchester and a far to come visit this place and enjoy their scrumptious foods!

Great neighborhood diner to stop by at if you don't want to travel far. Pros -great food -cheap/ affordable great service..really great -friendly atmosphere since they relocated up the block and got larger space -take out! and the deliver Cons - might have a wait on weekends or sundays especially since folks go there for brunch after church -thats it! haha

It is a good place for takeout. I mean if you want some burgers, fries, burritos, or some chicken, this is the joint. I think the seating is alittle cramped at times. Sometimes the ac might not be on. If you want something close by that is decent when you're starving, go here.

The original Ellie's was by the train station, it was a pretty good place. The burgers were and still are awesome. I live just across the street from the place and it's a great place for lunch. Want pancakes for dinner? They do that too! My favorite is the chicken philly and a scoop of ice cream and a cup of coffee after! Come in and get it!

Consistently good food. Quality ingredients and care taken when cooking. The owner is still there overseeing the operations so service is good too. Prices are terrific. Staff is warm and wonderful. The quesedillas are not traditional but very good.

I had been to the original location years ago for and I actually didn't like it, I thought it was tiny and cramped and just average. But now, the new location has lots of space and the food was excellent. The service was great, too. The manager, I assume, saw my overpicky friend scraping cheese off of her omlette and came over to see if my friend wanted to replace it and even apologized. Very cool.

This is a great place to eat. The service is good, the food is great and prices are extremely reasonable.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
