I think this place is pretty good. Not the best pizza I have ever had, but the crust is crispy and substantial without being thick, and the toppings are plentiful. I'd really love some fresh toppings though- canned mushrooms? Ick.

Plain and simple, PIZZA. The slices are very good. The Lasagna slices are excellent! Almost no seating.

Their cheese slice makes for a passable pre-imbibing stomach coating device. Slight hints of oregano every now and then please the palate. Otherwise... Meh. I've experienced better.

just ordered two slices and the cashier went back to handling food after handling cash, not washing hands... Not good.

Somehow I remember eating better pizza when I was in middle school. I've eaten a couple of slices recently and its not terrible, but its doesn't really stand out. Just like most other reviews say, the cheese is just about tasteless and the sauce is watery. I do like that the crust is crunchy. Oh and its just a peeve of mine, but sometimes the person that is preparing (barehanded) the pizza also handles the money... don't really like that. If you are looking for a regular slice I might look elsewhere. Haven't tried any of the other menu items, but I'll probably update the review if I do.

I guess if this was on a strip with a plethora of pizza options, it'd be more like a 2-star joint but given the sheer lack of pizza spots around this frat-land of Amsterdam (aw yeah), it's a fairly solid 3-star joint. First, it's the normal $2.25 price tag for a regular cheese slice. Second, it comes out nice and piping hot. Third, it's not too greasy and the sauce actually tastes like something. Nothing special, but you're in the wrong neighborhood if you were expecting something different.

We stopped in here to have a quick bite after our visit to the American Museum of Natural History. I have to say that the pizza was pleasantly wonderful. For me great pizza is about the sauce. I prefer my pizza sauce on the sweet side, as opposed to the acidic/ tart side, and this place has that. The crust is decent , not like paper, and crisp. You could tell that it was freshly made too and was not laying around all day. My husband had the cicilian with pepperoni and olives ( see my pics ), he commented that they were the biggest cicilian slices he ever ordered, made him very happy. Ever since my favorite pizza shop , Supreme pizza on E86 and Lex, closed it's doors , I have not tasted a pizza that I love. Not even from famous Ray's ( which is ok) . Now I have! The place is small though , but the service was fast, the pizza was great, what more can one ask for from a pizza shop?

Two plain slices & a medium soda $7.50. Slices overcooked & dry, I mean really this is NYC the things that business' get away with. This is the last time I'll go it's just like so many pizza places in NYC these days, guys making pizza don't know about making pizza and there is never a boss around, just mediocre pizza at high price, I'll stick with Cesars up in 84th.

Underrated as far as pizza goes. They take credit cards, and the pizza guys are pretty nice. We added to our order after they had already swiped our card. Turns out there's a $5 minimum and what we wanted to add was 50 cents. No scene, no anger, no looks. Just free, it's okay for now. Very cool.

Nothing like a pizza after having plenty of drinks. This place was definitely average. The slices weren't small like a $1 slice but there's nothing special about this place either. The best thing here was that I could sit down at a table to eat.

I've come here many times over the past few years. The last few deliveries they've forgot to add the marinara sauce to my order. I called and they gave me a hard time over the phone. I showed up to get my marinara and then they wanted to charge me extra... They wanted to charge me extra for an item THEY forgot to deliver! After they argued with me over a small side of marinara I've decided to take my business elsewhere. I will be going to Pizza La Grolla, Famous Ray's or Ceasar's Palace Pizza from now on.

Good pizza. Got two cheese slices for $5 and I was very satisfied.

Relatively cheap pizza place on the UWS - decent selection of different slices, but certainly not anything to write home about. Also tried one of their calzones and it was pretty good (meatball). Three doors down (no, not the band), is Pizza by la Grolla, and overall, I think they have superior pizza (one of my favorite in the UWS area). T&R is on seamless / grubhub - $5 minimum order so it is good if you are feeling particularly lazy!

I used to love this place growing up and would stop in every few years and it was always stellar. On my last visit, it was disappointing. Pizza was bland and tasteless. Im giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was a one tome offense but I'm nervous this place has started downhill. Also it has looked the same since 1997. That's fun on the now snooty uws.

I haven't tried their pizza which seems to get ok reviews, but I did order a meatball parm hero. It arrived promptly, but the hero was burned. The meatballs were tasteless as was the cheese and sauce. It was as if it had freezer burn then put in an oven to make it hot. Meh. Not good at all.

Worst service EVER ! Used to like the pizza & the guys working. However, Just ordered a pepperoni pizza for take out, brought it home... There was dismal pepperoni & cheese. I called to voice dismay... And got hung up on. My boyfriend called back... He, too, got hung up on. For a 'regular' pizza place, there are much better places around...

Don't believe the naysayers. I have a slice of pizza for lunch 4 times a week, at various places around Manhattan, including the wonderful Joe's of Bleecker. I go to T&R more than any other place because it's near where I shop and near the gym I go to - and because it's always good. As far as a regular slice goes, T&R is not quite at the same sublime level as Joe's, but it is consistently very, very good. It is exactly what one hopes for in NYC street pizza.

Sadly I must confirm that this place is no longer the fabulous hole in the wall pizza joint it was in days gone by. The tomato sauce and cheese are each sub par, the crust too thick and a tad dry, also not very flavorful. It's sad that such a neighborhood mainstay should deteriorate to the point where it's only got nostalgia going for it. You want hole in the wall, maybe try Sal's @ 103rd and Broadway.

Pizza is usually good, but, when you order for delivery, I hate it......... Always get an over cooked pizza because it was reheated......... They really think people are stupid..... Looking for another pizza place in the area..... Tired of getting re heated pizza.

I CHOOSE T AND R ABOVE LA GROLLA. Typical NYC Pizza. Nothing fancy but execellent sauce and cheese. They offer speedy, friendly delivery. Prices cannot be beat. I have been eatin here for about 30 years. Love it. La Grolla still has that attitude that made it not succeed as a real Italian Restaurant. Plus the Pizza just is dry and not good.

Always excellent classic New York style pizza. We order from here about 3 times a week.

Mediocre Pizza and staff that will try their best to "accidentally" make you pay more.

I am a huge pizza fan (especially when drunk at 2am). Turns out, so is just about every patron of the rowdy bars on Amsterdam Ave., who make up the clientele. Sadly, this joint just doesn't cut it. The sauce is unremarkable, making the regular slices on the lame side of average. There isn't much seating (3 tables? 4?), so be prepared to eat on the go. Their only saving grace is their white pizza, which is a delicious combo of mozzarella and ricotta cheese. If you want a good slice of NYC pizza that really represents, don't bother with T&R.

If you look up T and R Pizza, Amsterdam Ave, New York, on the New York City Department of Health web site, you will see that it's one of the dirtiest and most disgusting places to eat in NYC: "evidence of mice or live mice present in facility's food and non-food areas, personal cleanliness inadequate, facility not vermin proof," and much more. I happened to look it up because my boyfriend/life partner, age 67, got ill after eating there. I printed out the health report so he will never eat there again. If you eat there, you take a huge risk. And why would you? The neighborhood is full of much cleaner places. But check them out first, because it also has lots of dirty places.

My regular pizza place was a bit hurricaned and I decided to jump on T&R since it was open. Not a bad slice of pizza. I ended up getting what one would basically call a meat pizza. I could certainly eat here again. Not too greasy and good ingredients. Also, they have some pretty tasty pepperoni rolls.

This slice was good. Took it to go and walked with a friend over to McDonald's to pick up a meal for another friend. Glad I chose T & R over Macky D's. Their plain slice has pretty standard cheese and sauce, but the crust was a standout. Very thin, which made the slice floppy and foldable, and browned perfectly on the bottom. Well made overall. I think I would still choose Pizza By La Grolla over half the time, I like the cornmeal on their crust and their sauce is better, but this is a fair substitute, right down the street. Also, the slice was $2.50, so, along with Primo Pizza 84, this is one of the best $2.50 slices on the Upper West Side.

Greasy, salty, great crust, cheesy cheap goodness. right across from the bars and lounges in that area, so it's the best meal of your life after you've been drinking all night!

I've ordered for delivery a few times now, have always been pleased. Regular cheese pizza like the kind when you were a kid. Nothing fancy. Just good. Recommended in NYMag ( nymag.com/guides/everyth… ).

My favorite slice on the UWS. Generally a nice, crisp, non-greasy crust.

Ay, no me gusta! Now that I've been a NYer for a few months, I'm a spoiled pizza brat. Pizza like this would be considered wonderful in cities like Orlando, but for New York, it just won't cut it. You have New Pizza Town, Caesar's Palace, and Famous Original Ray's not far from this place and all at the same price, so why would you go to the runt of the litter? The slice they serve is the standard Uptown $2.50, but it's noticeably smaller and usually has been sitting around in the window for a LONG time. Every time I've come in here for a slice, the pizzas on the window look ancient, like as if they've been sitting there since New York was a Dutch colony or something. The slice is unusually small, over-cooked, and there is no distinguishable sauce taste whatsoever. No thanks! If you're one of those annoying post-frat people drinking on Amsterdam and looking for a late night slice, then I recommend using the small traces of brain cells you have remaining to find your way over to Caesar's Palace on 84th and Amsterdam instead of this place. The only positive aspects about this place are that they stay open late at night and the employees are cool people.

I have no beef with this place, but this was honestly the worst slice I've had in NYC. Flavorless cheese, watery sauce & soggy crust.

A good neighborhood slice. The mini bite size pepperoni roll for 25 cents are a nice treat you don't see at any pizzeria anymore. Cheers! N.

No one is taking away from the fact that this place is close and fast, but the pizza is borderline gross. The "basil and mozzarella" aka margherita in any other place, has NO SAUCE. It's just dry bread with patches of cheese... EW. I made the mistake of ordering that and asked them to send me a new pie, and the regular cheese was mediocre at best.

Made the mistake of ordering a Meatball Parm. Hero, but the length of time it took them to prepare it made me wish that I had just ordered a slice. The sandwich was NOT worth the wait...the roll was overcooked and barely edible. I give 2 stars because the sandwich didn't have negative side affects...it filled my belly and served its purpose well.

Unassuming pizza joint that makes an unappetizing slice. Can't taste the tomato sauce and needs more spices . Not awful I guess but there's no reason to eat this slice when you can walk to New Town ( yelp.com/biz/YMzLtct7OAE… ) or Caesar's ( yelp.com/biz/u9V6V3y06eY… ). Two things I like about this place: 1) They have these little pepperoni rolls for $.25. Pretty tasty. Reminds me of the pepperoni bread my friend's mom made when we were growing up. I'd get 4 of these before getting a slice. 2) It's the only restaurant I can think of with better branding when you walk out than when you walk in. They're on one of those blocks where I think the building owner forces generic storefronts and all you really see from the outside is a neon Pizza sign. When you look up at the menu above the counter, no sign of the name. But when you turn around to leave, BAM! it's T&R Pizza.

This is the place. Tell them you like it crisp, and they will put your slice back in the oven for a minute or two. After a slice, I go into a trance, with semi-paralysis, for 15 minutes. There is no point in arguing about it. This is Oblivion Pizza. The pepperoni rolls are delicious. 25 cents. They have A&W root beer.
