I stopped by here twice for breakfast while in the area. I had an omelet the first time, and a cream cheese and lox on bagel the second trip. Both were good, although I would prefer a little bit less cream cheese next time. I had fresh squeezed orange juice that was excellent. I also took some fresh-baked croissants(both almond and chocolate) and a donut to a cousin that I had coffee with, and she said those were good as well. This place will be a regular stop when I visit the area.

Went for brunch and nothing went well. After saying they had iced coffee, server brought plastic take out cups filled with watered down coffee and nearly no ice due to melting. Cream was in little packets at the table and no milk was offered. I ordered an omelet which was not cooked all the way and toast came with a packet of butter. But the waitress didn't bring any silverware! Did she expect me to use the plastic fork that was on the table? The bites I did manage to get down were bland, oily and not good quality. Given the price tags I was expecting much better food quality, proper preparation and professional service.

We arrived and my mom commented on the wonderful smell of bacon. She was promptly rewarded with a slice while we reviewed the lunch menu. Our sandwiches were delicious, the atmosphere is charming, and the proprietor made us feel like we were old friends. I could not more highly recommend th is place when in Sharon Springs!

I came to Black Cat for breakfast today and enjoyed my experience. I got Connie's Egg scramble with tomatoes and cheese with toast for $7 with a side of bacon for $3. Coffee was $2.50. The service was prompt and very helpful. I just think the cost was too high for what I received.

We visited on Sun 7/12/15 - we stopped for a lite lunch - we were seated right away - we waited 20 minutes ( we were going to leave at tge 25 minute mark) before a server came and asked us what we would like - we both ordered iced teas and the macc and blakk - the iced teas came about 10 minutes later and the young lady apologized for the delay- the table next to us served part if their order and the mac and cheese looked amazing ( that us what we ordered) nice and browned the top - baked nice and hot so we were so looking forward to ours - we waited yet another 15 minutes and finally got ours- yikes ! No golden crusty cheesey top ! Mine was at best was luke warm ! My sister's was alittle hotter- nothing of what was served to the next table- we were never offered refills on our teas as the other table - service was awful- food was okay - would never stop here again nor will recommend it either. We saw our server twice - when the drinks came and when the mac n cheese arrived and that is when I asked for the check ! Overall not a pleasant experience !

We came here on a recent trip because our hosts suggested it. Sure, it was a pretty busy day however, we waited 15 minutes for drinks and over an hour for our food. Portion sizes are incredibly small and the food is just ok. For what we received, the cost was far too high. Would not go back!

Super cute and very fresh food. They bake their own bread for sandwiches and the soup was also excellent. I highly recommend it!

Tony has never disappointed me when I stop in. I had a BLT with avocado and tea on New Years Eve. Good food and if you get a chance try his potato salad.

Moderately priced, buzzing atmosphere and tasty classics with a twist. Black Cat Cafe was a perfect stop during the Victorian Holiday Celebration. Even though it was busy, the service was fast and waitstaff were very accommodating. The food was prepared simply; I ordered the Connie (scrambled eggs with cheddar and tomatoes) and my friend had the curried chicken salad. Both of us were satiated with the meal, which was a shame because the baked goods looked amazing!

We happened upon the Black Cat during our search for the Beekman Boys, and we're glad we stopped in. The carrot and ginger soup was excellent, the fresh hummus delightful, and plentiful. I had the bacon, fried egg on ciabatta...a nice little sandwich. Highlight for me was the bold coffee and an out of this world walnut, apple and raisin muffin...over the top. Tony, the owner and host was most accommodating. Eclectic decor was a nice touch too!

Stopped at the black cat for lunch on a sunday afternoon last fall and only had good things to say. We ordered the chicken curry sandwich which was served on their home baked cinnamon raisen and walnut artisan bread. Highly recommended. We also had a wild julia which is a grilled cheese with cheddar, applewood bacon, hot sauce, awesome. Salmon, cream cheese, chivers, capers with lemon juice was tasty! Get an apple cider doughnut if they have them, it was so good we went back for another but they were sold out. The owner was super friendly and helpful.

9/29/12 - I've been to the Black Cat 4-5 times in the past 2 years. It's so hard to choose. Everything is very good - excellent. I had the Rubin today and on a previous visit. I also love the Wild Julia. Had it twice excellent! Wild Julia - grilled extra sharp NY cheese, bacon, tomato, pepita seeds, Frank's Red Hot, on white, 8.95 Home-made Corned Beef / Reuben on rye with Swiss cheese & sauerkraut, 10.95 Also very good choices. Lebanese Potato Salad, potatoes, parsley, dressed with olive oil, garlic, salt & lemon, 4.50 Hummus, made fresh here daily, Lebanese-style with olive oil & paprika, & pita triangles, 4.50 Next time -Thanksgiving Everyday, house roasted warm turkey breast, mayo, stuffing, cranberry sauce on toasted white, 9.95 I hope I can resist my other 2 favorites! The service is good to excellent. Sometime it gets really busy but the servers are always friendly and helpful. Unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive but there other shops in the area.

Excellent little place for lunch. Not very big on the inside, maybe 8 tables inside with assorted options for outdoor patio seating as well. Tables and chairs are all mismatched, very intimate and homey feeling. had the Cobble Gobble turkey sandwich and it was excellent. Fresh sliced turkey on homemade raisin bread with green apple slices, Mayo and lettuce...was delicious.

Tony prepared awesome lunches for the two of us. First were marinaded butter beans and carrot ginger soup... Both excellent. Our entrees were the Gobbler turkey sandwich and the gorgo Gorgonzola salad, which were like Thanksgiving précis and all the good things one wants in an entree salad, including the remarkable balsamic fig drizzle dressing. Dessert was a lumberjack size piece of the house carrot cake, and a white chocolate chip/cranberry cookie. Both desserts exceeded expectations. We should have walked back to Albany! We'll be back...

Left with very mixed feelings...mark and I went for the priciest breakfast dish: egg white omelet with goat cheese and tarragon: they left out the tarragon...how does that happen when there are only three ingredients in the entire preparation? My main issue was once the food was delivered, no one did the customary check back to make sure all was well...never got a chance to bring the missing ingredient to anyone's attention until the end of the meal...sure we could have gotten up to locate someone, but should we have to? The staff did take off the cost off a doughnut for our troubles...hmmm. This dish, for what it was, was WAY overpriced: $9.95 for a 2 (possibly 3) egg white omelet with a dash of goat cheese, most likely a sprinkling of tarragon (when used it should be done so sparingly anyway) and one piece of buttered toast...seriously? Not even a fruit garnish??? Mango smoothie that my son ordered at first glance looked to be a pleasant surprise...until I determined that it was most likely made up of ice and mango syrup...I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything natural about it, especially as it separated... They did put out some nice looking pastries (of which we sampled the doughnut mentioned earlier: good but still a doughnut...). Final blow, however, were the multiple hanging fly traps that were in the first line of sight into the kitchen...each adorned with multiple, quite sizable catches...ugh...pretty sure fly traps shouldn't be in a kitchen. The place could be super cute, but it needs a good scrubbing, fewer hanging fly traps (at least put them put of customer sight) and some quality assurance oversight.

This is a cute little spot for breakfast and I wish that we lived closer to enjoy the large-format cooking classes that they offer upstairs. The breakfast menu has something for everyone. When we arrived their were good looking donuts and pastries out on a table cooling. We promptly ordered a donut each which was worth the calories. My meal was the cornflake encrusted french toast which was just okay. it was slightly charred which gave it an odd taste. Our other meal was the bagelwich which was standard fare. All in all - this seems to be the only game in town and they do a good job.

I dream about lunch here mmm All the way from brooklyn, friend the black cat on facebook, i like to hear about whats going on All year long in Sharon springs

Never disappointed here. Tony, the owner, is so nice and always able to make a spot on recommendation. His twist on the classic blt is joy to the taste buds, the soups are fantastic and the desserts and pastries right out of the oven will make you crave one even before you order your entree. Can't go wrong with Black Cat when you're in the area.

Next time I would go to the American across the street. Me and 3 friends were up here for some adventures in upstate NY, and this was apparently the only game in town. We popped in for breakfast, options were pretty limited. We ended up getting the James Beard french toast, an omelette, some oatmeal, and granola. I got the omelette, which was pretty rubbery and nothing special, not including of any sides (sans toast), service was a bit slow, as it all took awhile to come out to us and took a fair bit longer for us to get our check (in spite of there not being many others there). The french toast was actually pretty amazing, and I would recommend it, but all in all nothing else was too impressive. Would definitely try the American, across the street, for brunch next time I was there. The menu seemed a little more exciting and brunch-oriented.

We were in Sharon Springs for the Spring Garden Party and stopped in the Black Cat three times during our weekend visit. We highly recommend the Thanksgiving Everyday sandwich! So delicious and piled high with thick slices of roasted turkey, delicious stuffing and tangy cranberry sauce on a great bread. Had to eat it with a knife and fork since I couldn't quite get my mouth around it otherwise. We also had the Blaak Mac n cheese that was made with the fabulous goat cheese made for the Beekman Farm. Very good, creamy, slightly tangy. Share the sandwich since it is huge! The next day I had the Wild Julia-cooked like a panini, with cheese, bacon, tomato, hot sauce and pepitas. My sister had the curried chicken on raisin bread. All really yummy! Finally, we stopped to get a box of their great baked goods to bring back to Ohio. Tony was warm, friendly and welcoming....and really liked people who treated others nicely! Even on a hot, very busy weekend, he came to our table to check on us and told us to enjoy ourselves and take our time. A must if you spend time in Sharon Springs. Even bought a tshirt!

Definitely the best cafe on our 45 days road-trip across the US! We had the fantastic reuben and an unforgettable carrot cake, among other things. We sat outside in the pleasant sun and listened to amazing stories from the owner. Would love to go again, if it wasn't so far from California...

Stopped here because it was about half way of a long day of driving. Wanted a good lunch and a walk to break up the drive. Great spot, had the curry chicken salad sandwich and the gorgonzola salad sandwich with ice tea with a cookie to go. Cute town took a short walk around before heading out. It was about 8 miles off the highway so if you are in a hurry might not work. We felt is was well worth the drive into town. If we are in the area we will definitely stop again. Not far from Cooperstown, NY if you are headed there.

We stopped in for lunch during the Harvest Festival last weekend as it was the only place to get a sit down lunch at the festival. The staff was the most inefficient bunch of people with a lot of the young girls standing around looking at the customers and the host turning people away without taking their names. The food was gross--the ingredients in our sandwiches were not evenly distributed within the bread and mostly out of jars (not even cut). The Arnold Palmers were mostly ice, with really low quality products served in tiny disposable cups. We left most of the food on our plates and paid $44 for lunch for 3 people. We were severely disappointed.

We're not sure where else you're gonna grab breakfast around here, so luckily this place is really good! A few outdoor tables are especially nice in the summer time, after strolling through the interior, where stacks of fresh-baked goodies are cunningly displayed. Toasted bagel with cheese, egg and bacon was quite tasty and cornflake-crusted French toast is a treat. Friendly locals will gladly guide you to nearby sites.

The Black Cat is pretty much the only place in the heart of Sharon Springs to get a good breakfast, but I'd still go here even if it wasn't! You absolutely must try the James Beard French Toast...It has cornflakes in the batter, which sounds strange but gives it the perfect amount of crunchiness. You can get coffee and various baked goods here too. I've never tried lunch here but it looks good. This place is family owned and barely has any employees on the weekdays, so service can be a little slow, but it's worth it.

Gotta say, I'm not a fan, which definitely puts me in the minority here on Yelp. Maybe everyone else is right and I was having an off day, but here's how it went down for me: Saturday is my "cheat day" for carbs, so I ordered mac & cheese (tiny and bland) and a slice of chocolate cake (enormous and slightly less bland). My friend had the curried chicken salad sandwich and a small piece of cheesecake, which were both pronounced excellent. We each had a soda. With tax + tip, it came out to $40. Middle of nowhere, eating diner food with a plastic fork and drinking Pepsi straight from the can? That doesn't feel like a $40 lunch to me. On the plus side, the owner was super friendly, the menu was clever, and the place had a fun vibe. But high price, meh food and hapless service are enough to drag the overall rating into negative territory. Might give Black Cat another shot eventually ... but not until I'd tried every other place in town.

We had a delicious meal and wonderful experience at the Black Cat Cafe. The food (BLAKK macaroni and cheese, Thanksgiving sandwich and Oops soup) was delicious, of the highest quality. The owner, Tony, was personable and gracious, and obviously took great pride in the food. That pride and care was showcased in each dish, and we raved about them all. In response to some of the other reviews, if you're looking for the typical American diner-style huge portions with cheap prices, this isn't for you... However, if you want high quality dishes prepared with attention to flavor and fresh ingredients, I definitely recommend this cafe. I only wish we lived closer so I could come all the time!

Sharon Springs is a little off the grid but this is a great place to stop if you are driving through or vacationing. The owner Tony is super friendly and makes a point to chat with you. We were on a road trip when we came and needed quick service and he made sure it happened for us - I had the gobbler, turkey with green apples on homemade raisin bread - unique and really tasty!
