Nom, Nom, NOM!!! I sure do love me some sam-miches! When you walk inside you're greeted with the funky retro atmosphere this place has going on. Get past all of that and you're right at the counter where you are once again greeted by the friendly staff. Menu is pretty clear for the most part, if you have and questions they have answers. Service was great, food was great, and I left full and happy. I ordered the footlong (I was sharing!) yellow sub and the artichoke bisque. I will be back! Subs are reasonably priced, yummy-licious, and like someone said "messy" (but hey if it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in yo face!)

I L-O-V-E this place. I heard about it from a friend and decided to try it out and it was a great decision. They have very very good sandwiches!! I always get the turkey and pickle with cheese sandwich but you can really get any one and they are all delicious - you can also add anything to it such as sprouts, peppers, all the veggies. The ambiance in there is a little corky, they have funny little figures and pictures so its always fun to look around when you get there. They have great customer service and get your food out in a timely matter and they music that is always bumpin in there is great! We come here a lot for lunch and we have not had a bad experience!

Ahh, the memories of Berkeley and all of the different stores and people. I grew up in Oakland, but spent alot of time in berkeley. The Yellow Submarine reminds me of days gone by. It is like walking into a time machine. The store is located in the scolaris center off pyramid. There is aout 5 tables inside and one outside. The sandwich shop is decorated very funky, with alot of stuff on the walls and old video games. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The girl that helped me had multiple piercings , tattoos and green hair. Reminded me so much of Berkeley. I ordered the salami and provolone on white roll. You can choose what you want on it. From tomatoes to onions, lettuce, mustard and mayo. The bread is extremely fresh and not doughy. The one thing that really separates them from other shops, they sprinkle parmasean On the roll. It gives it a nice texture along with adding a unique taste to the sandwich I will definitely be back, and km aybe wear my tie die shirt and take a trip down memory lane

In the town where I was born, lived a man who sailed to sea, and he told us of his life, in the land of submarines. Well in this case, we're not referring to the classic 1966 Beatles song, "Yellow Submarine". Nope, this is the name of a neat little hole-in-the-wall establishment in Sparks, NV that goes by the exact same name. Those of you that know me already know that I love to eat sandwiches. It provides fuel for my body to get me through the rest of the day. And as accessible most sandwich shops are (Subway, Togo's, Mr. Pickles), I love venturing out to new and exciting places that I've never stepped foot in. And when I was in the Reno-Sparks area for work on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, I arrived at "Yellow Submarine" around 1:30pm. This place is in a no-frills strip mall on Pyramid Blvd. close to a tattoo shop and grocery store. It almost looks as if you're stepping back into the early 1980's as this part of town hasn't progressed as much as trendier areas in the Reno vicinity. When I walked inside, I was impressed by the decor. There were pictures galore of funky past and present entertainers and some unknown figures. For the green thumb, I also witnessed a nice variety of plants. Some were simple but others were over the top. Additionally, I saw some old school vinyl records, some creepy looking dolls, and if you get lost, they also have a map of the world. And hence the name, "Yellow Submarine", the entire walls throughout the building were a canary-yellow color. As my stomach was growling, I knew exactly what I wanted and opted for a simple "Ham & Cheese" sandwich on sourdough bread (for $5.25). This sandwich includes all the normal toppings (mayo, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, salt, pepper, oil, and vinegar) and a unique topping, Parmesan cheese. As crazy as this sounds, I've never experimented in topping my sandwich was Parmesan cheese so we will just have to see how good this tastes. Since I asked for my sandwich to-go, I was handed my sandwich within just a few minutes. Everything was conveniently wrapped in thick brown paper as well as parchment paper to assure a tightly-packed sandwich. I grabbed a seat outside as the Nevada sun was glazing and was ready to indulge. The first bite of this deliciousness shows that Parmesan cheese was what made this taste unique. And not in a bad way at all. There were also nicely thin slices of smoked ham while the sourdough had a nice soft texture to it. Overall, "Yellow Submarine" offers a fairly decent sandwich while being generous for its size. And considering you get more food for less price than say, a Subway, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. The service was above average, the decor is eclectic, and their sandwiches got the job done. So for those of you who happen to be in the Reno-Sparks area for business or pleasure, check out the "Yellow Submarine"!

Nice little place to have a sandwich or two. Lately I only had to take their sandwitches and run but the place is nice and food is great. Always dropping by when I'm close to it.

Where are you going to go to get a solid sandwich while rocking out to Pentagram? Yellow Sub of course! It's seems to draw the alternative crowd and it's full of crazy things seemingly stacked throughout the years? Creepy baby dolls? A pic of young Selma Blair? The logo of Buena Vista the bar with the great Irish Coffee in SF? It's all here. Capocollo and provolone for the win. Oh and rock out too.

When someone who has told you that they "don't really like sandwiches" (yes, apparently these people DO exist) tells you that a sub shop is "amazing", you take notice. When you're the kind of person who LOVES a good sandwich, you take them up on the offer to grab lunch there and then drive as quickly as possible. And that's how my love story with Yellow Sub began last Spring. Upon first stepping into this place, I went into full overload. Midweek lunchtime brings a pretty good sized crowd and between the full tables, the line of people, the crazy "cover every inch of the walls" decor, and the LOUD music, my senses were in overdrive. I was pleased to see that the line moved quickly and even more pleased to have a heaping, beautiful sandwich placed in front of me in no time. And from the moment that I took that first bite, all the noise and people and "stuff" faded to a dull roar in the background while my taste buds rejoiced. Wow, wow, wow! The sandwiches at Yellow Sub are the perfect example of how the simplest of things - fresh deli meats and cheeses, a tasty bread, and basic toppings - when put together just so can the epitome of mealtime perfection. And to that a little less "basic topping" (a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, in this case) and you'll find yourself in sandwich heaven. Personally, my absolute favorite is the hot roast beef with provolone cheese....yum! A tasty selection of daily soups and fresh squeezed lemonade help to place Yellow Sub towards the top of my list of favorite eats in Reno/Sparks. I prefer to hit up this place during less busy times, a late lunch or early dinner is perfect. While the sandwiches are amazing and well worth tolerating the other stuff, it does get a little overwhelming for me when they are super busy. My son, who has a sensory processing disorder, simply cannot be in this restaurant when they are hopping. Typically, if he is with us, we head in all while knowing we may not stay. We've found that when it's not busy, and especially if we're the only diners inside, they will happily oblige if asked to turn the music down a bit. In fact, they've been quite accommodating and very sweet to my little man. Also worth noting if dining with kiddos, they do not have a kid-sized sandwich. The standard 6-inch sandwich piled with toppings is an extraordinary amount of food for a young kiddo to eat. And if they want to add a side and/or drink, it also can become a rather pricing meal for a little one. Note: While they do accept debit/credit cards, there is an additional charge to use one.

It's no wonder these guys have stellar reviews. My sandwich was amazing! The bread: sourdough. Crunchy on the outside. Soft on the inside. The vegg: shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and onions = fresh and crisp The meat was one of my favorite parts. I got capocolla. Whatever that is its freakin awesome. I can't usually finish a whole sandwich but it was delicious so I definitely stuffed my face a little. They have salt, pepper, vinegar to add and they also put parmesean cheese (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) on the sandwich. Definitely a nice touch! I also had a white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie. Amazeballs! Haha I just learned of this word today. Thought I could use it in my review ;) The inside is what makes the place honestly. I mean, sure port of subs can make good sandwiches, but what those chain restaurants lack is the spunk; The flavor. Not just flavor taste bud wise, but the flavor for life! Customer service was on point. I didn't feel like just a customer. I guess that's what you get when you shop locally so to speak.

I was craving a sandwich not too long ago and decided to head back over to Yellow Submarine. Again, it wasn't anything special but they sure charged enough. I got 6 inch roast beef with cheddar on white. Let it be known that their sandwiches don't come with cheese like they do at every other sandwich shop that serves deli-style sandwiches (they use the term "extra cheese", but they mean it as an extra item, not actually getting more cheese on top of the default amount). For an extra $1.50 you too can get super thinly sliced cheese that you can barely taste on your sandwich. There are some things you expect to be there when you put meat between two slices of bread, and cheese is one of them. If you want to charge me extra for cheese, do me the favor and don't rip me off. I understand that their costs may be different than other, larger, places/chains, but my sandwich went from $5.75 to $7.25. It would be much cheaper for me to buy a good quality cheese, slice it, and put it there myself. Overall, ignoring how irritated I was about the cheese, the sandwich was passable but like I said in my original review, it wasn't anything special. Once you add in the cost of the cheese that should be there, and the $0.50 fee for using your card it's really not worth it. I wholeheartedly believe that we owe it to the local economy to shop at, and support, locally owned business, but this is one I won't be returning to. In the end, my simple sandwich (with nothing special added) started at $5.75, and after various charges/fees/taxes/$1 tip ended at $9.32. Yes, I didn't have to tip, but in my mind I was still taken advantage of.

Spreading more love for a local business. I'm so glad I finally made a point to go here. What a great quirky place. The strip mall it's located in is nothing fancy. They've made up for that with the hodge-podge welcoming decor. I love the home-made menu, it adds to the charm. We were greeted by incredibly friendly staff, who clearly care about their work and seem genuinely happy you are there. It's nice to feel welcome. I ordered a 6 inch yellow sub on sourdough with all the standard fix'ns for $6. My husband ordered a 12 inch hot pastrami and he wanted all kinds of substitutions. They handled it like pros and got his order right. The sandwiches came quickly. The sandwiches are very generously equipped. I could only eat half. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The yellow sub comes with pastrami, ham and salami with provolone cheese. The standard toppings are mayo, lertuce/sprouts mix, tomato, onion, oil and vinegar and there is a little pages an cheese sprinkled on the top. Very fresh, very tasty, very good. I can't wait to come back and try something else.

This place is great! I love their sandwiches. I have been here many of times and ordered a few different kinds. My last sandwich I ordered was a Canadian bacon and pineapple. They put there heart and soul in perfecting the sandwiches. I love the parmesan they add on the sandwich to top it off! Their soup is also good. Their wait I the sandwiches take a bit because they hand make them fresh when ordered. The staff is very nice and polite.

    - Had the hot pastrami and the yellow sub. Liked the hot pastrami more - Service was friendly, but the decor was a little off putting - They definitely give you giant sandwiches, but overall I'm a little underwhelmed

By far this was one of the best subs I have ever had. The sub was HUGE! I was able to eat half of it and save the rest for dinner that night. I had the 6" turkey on sour dough with no mayo. It was a monster! The service was fast and the ladies behind the counter were very friendly. We will be back again and maybe try one of their other subs. The place was small and cozy inside. They have a ton of thing to see that will keep you busy the entire time you are in line. The main reason I came here was because of a RGJ article about a baby doll with a syringe and a Washoe County baby bib on. I guess someone was offended. Well because they were offended I found my new sub shop!

Just tried yellow submarine for the first time and it felt like being wrapped up an a comfy blanket at Christmas time. I ordered the 6inch egg salad sandwich on wheat with a side of jalapeños(huge sandwich, perfect egg salad!) and a cup of chicken noodle, it was fantastic. The decor is awesome some of the employees were sitting around having a beer together and enjoying their afternoon, it was nice. It didn't just feel like a corporate sandwich place it felt like I was eating in these peoples home and it tasted like it too. I could taste the herbs in the soup, super fresh. They had awesome music playing which was a bonus!! I will be back for sure if not for the awesome food then just to see the foxy lady in the red dress in the picture!

I had a veggie sub on the way to a meeting and it was the best veggie sub I have ever eaten! It was so good I made my husband go there for lunch the next day and it was just as good as the night before. We will be coming back here!

Driving from NC to CA my girlfriend and I look for local places with flare, great food and great people. We settle for one of the two and usually leave feeling pretty good about not coming back to our choices. There just are not too many places that will walk my llama if you know what I mean. Yellow submarine is the real McCoy . Great people, greater food, greatest flare. Only rival is The Friendly Toast in Portsmouth, NH.

    I. Love. This. Place. I used to live right around the corner so they would see me like every day haha. The staff is fantastic! The food. Oh goodness the food. You can tell everything is fresh. My favorite sandwich is the roast beef and turkey with Swiss and avocado and they make it perfect every time. They also have to die for broccoli cheese soup. Don't get me started on the brownies! The atmosphere is so eclectic, it's just awesome. Random newspaper clippings and funny articles everywhere. Even a shelf full of games to play while you take it all in. I definitely recommend cards against humanity. I alwaaays bring friends in here and we never leave dissatisfied, go check it out!

I just love this place. I had The Yellow Sub today and as usual it was delicious! They also have delicious soups too, but today was my lucky day! They had my all time favorite, Artichoke Bisque. When I got there a little after noon they only had 3 left so I bought all 3! Yummy for my tummy.

Very good! See you port of subs and any other shop. A little pricier than the other but much better. Had it for the first time last Saturday, went back again Sunday before work. Sometimes you go to a place because for some reason they do it just right... This is that place. Can't believe I lived here for 35+ years and just now had them. Worth the price!

Always great!! I have been coming here for almost 30 years. Super fresh ingredients and they never scimp on the meat. Took my wife for the first time on Saturday, now she's not much for subs, but she loved it. She already wants to go back.

I went here on a Friday afternoon and they weren't too busy. There was one other couple at the place. I ordered the yellow sub, and the ladies behind the counter were very friendly and talkative. It took an unusually long time to make my sub - around 5-10 minutes for one sandwich. The sub was huge! Other than the ginormous size of the sub, there was nothing particularly special about the taste. Solid 3.5.

Love me some yellow sub...I have been a steady customer for six years now trying to hit them weekly. My favorite is the Hot Pastrami, Meatball or BLT sub. The girlz there rock and are always a party, as a matter of fact too damn happy...Bring some problems to work with you sometime would you. I don't care who you are, it's a sandwich made with love. See you tomorrow, I'm hungry now. ;-)

Best subs in town and has been open for 37 years. The owner Michelle and the othe lovely ladies of the yellow sub are there 7 days a week serving up good food and lots of wise-cracking fun. The number 9 is my go to but, the ring of fire is hot roast beef with cheese, bacon, jalapeños, onions, and tomato mayo, something the man in black could be proud of. Go give the ladies a visit, you won't be disappointed.

My son and I were in the neighborhood today of Pyramid and Prater and we were suddenly STARVING. Like CRAZY STARVING. It dawned on me (hailing from Reno and not going to Sparks much) that Yellow Submarine used to be in the area - and much to my delight they still were! They've been at that located for like forever and the sandwiches are pretty good. Why no 5 stars then? They give you a TON of lettuce and it's almost unmanageable (see my pic -seriously almost a half of head of lettuce - but that's their recipe and it's always been like that) while the rest of the content of the sandwich is kinda meh. BUT - they do put Parmesan on the sandwich which is a unique addition and the atmosphere is fun hippy shabby chic burner happy fun time - very kitchy! My kid had never seen a tabletop Ms. Pacman game and I took great delight in showing him sum gaming old school! All in all, a fun experience. So glad y'all are still in business after 30+ years! GO LOCAL!

After fairly disappointing results at Subway yesterday, I decided to try the nearby Yellow Sub (located in the Scolari's shopping center, on Pyramid near Greenbrae). I'd been there a couple of times before and was pretty impressed with the quality. As a couple of other folks have noted, this is a mom-and-pop operation, and it shows inside with the funky decor, art, drawings, and funny sayings posted everywhere. You can spend an hour in there and probably not even read half the stuff on the walls. It's got a semi-hippie vibe without being overwhelming, reminds me of a lot of the Bay Area cafes/food places that have a similarly cool environment. The ladies at the counter were extremely pleasant, smiling and welcoming. I'll admit, I was a little taken aback at the price of a 12" sub ($8.75 for the combo of meats I ordered), but after paying $5 for a sub-par foot long the day before, I was willing to shell out a few extra bucks. I decided to sit outside, so the girl making the sub offered to bring it out to me. I nearly fell off my chair a few minutes later, when she emerged carrying one of the biggest sandwiches I'd ever seen in my life. I mean this sucker was HUGE. Then she says the funny line, "If you don't finish all of it, just bring the rest back inside." I felt like I was on Man vs. Food and had already lost the challenge. NO WAY can I eat that whole thing in one sitting. This thing was literally BURSTING with ingredients. I mean, lettuce, sprouts, meat, cheese, no skimping on any of the ingredients. It even required a little bit of skill to squeeze it down small enough to take a bite. The sprouts and the Parmesan cheese gave the sandwich a unique and delicious flavor. Sometimes sprouts have an overwhelming, dirt-like taste, but not these--they were mild and really added to the sandwich. Unlike the flavor-challenged Subway experience from the day before, I could taste every individual ingredient, from the tender, delicious pastrami to the hearty sourdough bread that tasted fresh baked. As expected, I fell short of total gluttony and could only finish half the sandwich. I brought the other half inside, where the server cheerfully wrapped it up. That wrapped half alone felt like it weighed two pounds. So compare the "value" of a $5 foot-long, which was enough for one meal, to $8.75 for two full meals, plus the fact that the quality was better...I think you can do the math. So unless you're hell-bent at counting fats and calories...even in that case, Yellow Sub also has salads, and with no mayo and certain ingredients you could hook up a pretty healthy sandwich here too, I would imagine. Side note: they don't take credit cards, only debit cards or cash--so come prepared.

I am truly honored to be the first the rate Yellow Sub in Sparks, NV!!! I have been coming here for seriously 20+ years. And I'm only 28 years old. I grew up around the corner from this place and it is a true taste of childhood for me. These sandwiches are AMAZING. They are full of fresh meat and vegetables. They use oil, vinegar and Parmesan cheese to help season each sandwich. They have 20+ sandwiches to choose from and you can always just create your own. I normally go with a whole #7 on white with everything. This is a true mom and pop place. Michelle the owner has been there as long as I have been going there and remembers me by name whenever I go in. This place is a must for anyone in the mood for a great, reasonable sandwich if you cruising around Sparks. Eat here once and you'll never go to a chain sandwich shop ever again.

I wasn't happy with my pressed turkey meat sub had i known in advance I was going to be served pressed turkey meat I would have ordered a veggie sub, thoughts of yellow submarine subs are no longer going through my head. The chocolate dipped rice krispie treat is another story yummy! I thought this place was pricey too, my next sub stop will be Pub and Sub..Cheers!

  • SAMANTHA D.

I am disappointed with the turkey sub. It tastes like cheap lunch meat. I could have made this sub myself and for nearly $5 this isn't worth it. Unfortunately this place has lost stars in my eyes due to the lack of quality with the turkey. I will try this place again, but will never eat their turkey again. I honestly would rather go to subway since there is a variety of sauces and bread, which makes this chain a better value for your money. This place isn't horrible, I think I made a bad selection and will probably try their pastrami next time.

Let me start off, I have been eating at Yellow Sub in Sparks since 1979-1980. Used to work a couple doors down from them and always loved the food and service. That is until the past few years. I just decided to start going back after a two year hiatus, they have not been able to get my order right the last 4 attempts, simple mod to the number 9 wrap. Now to be fair this time, today for lunch, they were fairly busy when the order was picked up so I am going to give them one more try. So give them a go if you're in Sparks, the food is great, when they get the order right. Could be the best sandwich place in town.

AHHHHHHH, wow this sandwich place was amazing let me tell you. The sourdough bread is so soft and you can tell all the meat/produce is fresh. I don't live around the area but my mom an I we're traveling around and saw this place so we had to try it and I'm so glad we did. I hope to come back to Sparks and I'll former be eating here again!!

Yummy. Tried here visiting Sparks on mini-vacation and was not disappointed. Small place this location. Staff was uber friendly and customer pleasers which was a breath of fresh air. Big sandwich and you get your money's worth. Got the turkey and provolone on white bread and it was delicious. Added avocado and pickles (up charge for both!) to it and it was just tasty. I was disappointed that you actually have to pay for pickles!?! Not so cool there...actually unheard of. All in all I would def come back when I am in town. Thumbs up!

  • Mark A.

Im not sure how they do it. How they make the sandwiches so damn tasty. Maybe it starts with not being cheap asses. When you get a sandwich at Yellow Sub it's actually filled. None of this "only a certain number of slices per sandwich size" that a certain national chain seems to think makes a sandwich. Secondly the staff is friendly and personable. Even when swamped they work efficiently. The place and get a bit crowded during busy times due to the layout, but the sandwich is worth it.

Awesome little sandwich joint tucked away in an old shopping center in Sparks. The sandwiches are delicious and huge. A 6 inch is plentiful for one hungry dude and runs around $6. Ordered the meatball sub and it was awesome. The food took awhile for my buddy and I but they actually slice the meat and make your sandwich to order so we understood. The ambiance is a little weird and creepy but it definitely adds character. It was odd eating an open faced meatball sub while looking at a framed photo of Linda Blair from The Exorcist. There was a constant flow of people streaming in and out of here so that tells you something off the bat. Great lunch spot. Highly recommended.

Good sandwiches and excellent service. I'm still a little surprised by the enthusiasm for Yellow Submarine on Yelp and foodie discussion groups. I ate at Yellow Submarine probably 10 times a year for much of the 1990s and perhaps beginning in the late 1980s. I always liked their sandwiches. That's why I was a repeat customer. Typically I'd do a load of laundry in the laundromat a few doors down and when I put the clothes in to dry I'd head down for a sandwich. I haven't been there for a decade or more. People began enthusiastically recommending Yellow Submarine on the Internet. So I decided it was worth a trip back to check it out. It has changed for the better. It used to seem a little run down. It's been brightened up and has a strong grrrl power vibe to it now. It got that with the bumper sticker on the front door handle: "Real women swallow." The menu has expanded with wraps, salads and with several kinds of soups. I recall they used to offer one or two. I got the Yellow Submarine and I liked it better than I used to. It was stuffed with alfalfa sprouts now and I don't think it used to have those, or at least not as many. The biggest improvement was the bread. They used to use run-of-the mill bread but the sourdough I got for my sandwich was excellent. They also have a much greater selection of beers. I don't remember if they had beer before but if they did it wasn't much of a selection. Still, I saw nothing I wanted to drink. The staff was a little slow to take my order but otherwise were friendly. I ordered my sandwich to eat there but when I finished half I was full. I wrapped it in the paper provided but when an employee walked by and saw it she offered to wrap it and bag it. I don't know if the owners changed but Yellow Submarine has changed for the better. It's a great place to get a sandwich. I'm still not sure I'd put it in the top three in the area, though.

Great sandwich spot!! I've been coming here since I was a kid in the 90's. And they still got the same Ms. Pacman game I used to play and be a record holder on( which has since then been beat). This is definitely a staple spot for sparks/Reno area.

Cool, Fun and Quirky place that makes delicious sandwiches. I tried this place last week for the first time and ended up going back again the very next day. Great customer service and great food!

Amazing sandwiches! Super fresh, great choices. My husband and I got the turkey, ham and provolone and we loved it! The bread was so soft, the sandwiches had lots of flavor and they had a great selection of beer. On top of that we both got soups that were to die for. I had the artichoke bisque and loved it!! The shop itself is very eclectic and different making the experience fun and unique. I highly recommend it :).

The Yellow Submarine has been serving up sizeable sandwiches with a side of sass, sense of humor, and sarcasm for almost 40 years in the Reno-Sparks area! The story is a sweet one, and one I love to hear in our community. The original owner had grown the business from one successful shop to three in about 20 years. When he decided to retire, he sold two and was approached by an employee who'd been there for almost 20 years who was interested in buying the original business. He told her to make an offer, so she did and, in response, he cut her number in HALF and said the place is yours! Rumor has it he's now off sailing the world, not in a submarine, but a photo of him on his boat sits up on a shelf watching over everything. I was told he still calls to check in and give the new owner a hard time, and I'm sure that's how this place has kept up the witty and gritty sarcastic vibe and spirit all these years. Under that tough exterior is a business run on dedication, love, and camaraderie and you feel that as soon as you walk in. I showed up a little after 7 (they close at 8), and there was one other customer there picking up, what I learned was her usual Thursday order. The nice gal behind the counter made me feel right at home, and said she'd be with me ASAP. I went ahead and explored the shop a little more, which was when I noticed the half priced beer on Thursdays ($1.50!). I grabbed one and started looking at the fun trinkets, crafts, signs and photos all over the walls, including a large collection of Wizard of Oz memorabilia, all of which really give you a sense of who runs this place. When it was my turn to order, I was excited, and asked her what's good. She said the Yellow Sub was the way to go. This thing sounded like a monster with ham, salami, and pastrami, provolone and swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, sprouts (I didn't get these), mayo, oil & vinegar, and parmesan cheese. I came in hoping for an Italian sub, so I asked to sub capicola for pastrami, which she was happy to do, and she even offered to sprinkle some oregano on for a little more Italian flair! I had seen the 12" sub go home with the other lady, and it could feed 4, so I opted for the 6" and it was massive! The bread was fresh and had that chewy texture I look for in a sub roll, the meat plentiful (at least 1/2lb!), and the veggies crisp and delicious with just the right amount of "dressing" from the oil & vinegar, parmesan, S&P and oregano. I'm amazed it took me almost 7 years to find it, but I'm so glad I took Yelper Amanda M's suggestion and went in last night. I will be back soon and I'll be bringing others to meet this institution face to face.

Theres just something about how they season there sandwiches that makes them taste delicious. This place is a real authentic sandwich shop too and they definitely dont short change you on the meat or the toppings.

Holy crap! This was the best sandwich I've ever had. No question. When you go, you MUST do the Yellow Sub with everything on it. The combination of meats and cheeses is perfect and the Parmesan lettuce is to die for!!! I've eaten at every sub shop on town and Yellow Submarine totally stole my heart. Definitely worth the drive; these chicks know what they're doing!

A great spot in Reno/Sparks area. We stayed at El Dorado and a lot of times the hotel restaurants just don't do it for us. So we Yelp everything :) This place is great for a good sub!

Best subs in town! Very tasty and you cant beat the price! Went there yesterday and ordered a 12 inch turkey on sourdough with everything on it and it came out to around $9. I split it with my dad and it was more than enough food for the both of us!

I've been here a few times now and each time I enjoy it a little more! Upon pulling into the parking lot, you have no idea you could find such absolutely scrumptious sandwich and salad combinations you would find inside! The location is misleading; it looks a little rough on the outside, but the inside haas a spunky charm you wouldn't find anywhere else. When you walk in, there is so much to look at! Your eyes can not stay in one spot! There are all kinds of "out there" and whimsical decorations every where, from strange barbies hanging to a wide assortment of Wizard of Oz scenery. It is quite a sight! I couldn't even sit down as I waited for my order, I just gazed at all the estranged decor, around the deli! The service surpassed my expectations! The two ladies, working behind the counter, were filled with just as much spunk as the restaurant, itself! They were both entertaining and efficient with their jobs! We had our sandwiches in no time and they were all made exactly to our liking! My husband had the Hot Turkey and Provolone sub and I has the Salami and Provolone! Both were absolutely tasty! I love everything about this place! Their subs are delicious, their service is exceptional and the environment is irreplaceable! Such a fun and tasty place to visit! I cannot wait until my next trip back here!

Delicious!! Best sandwich shop i have ever been to. The way they top each sandwich with parmesan just puts it over the edge. Theyre really filling and i cant even finish the 6 inch. The italian wedding soup was also topped with parmesan and really yummy. Love the funny decor too.

Best sandwich I've had in Reno/Sparks. It takes a minute for them to make your order, can be quite a few minutes if they're busy but it's well worth it. Has the kind of unique look about it you'd expect from a local institution such as this. Try the signature Yellow Sub - can't go wrong!

I grew up in Sparks and have been eating here my whole life. I have only eaten one sandwich "the veggie" each and every time I never disappointed. The sandwich has never changed and has always been perfect. We recently moved to Sacramento and are here visiting our son. We stopped in to have "the veggie" and are so happy we did. I love this place, I hope it never changes and stays as eccentric as ever.

After seeing a sub my coworker brought back from lunch i took a pic and sent it to my girlfriend. Next day we went. We love yellow sub now. Bring your appetite as they are stuffed with deliciousness. Small inside and the dolls are a little creepy but food is so good. I recommend them to everyone now.

So like... I took two different trips at two different dates and times to Scolari's to purchase some miscellaneous items. Yellow Submarine Sandwiches would be the first thing I notice as I walk into the store and I would think to myself: " Man, I bet chew this joint is good." Unfortunately those two times I didn't have an appetite for anything and perhaps one day when I'm out here I would be hungry and check this place out. One thing that this place got me brainwashed to do was sing that classic by the great ... Beatles, "Yellow Submarine" Not just Once. But they got me TWICE in the drive returning back to my hotel. Pwah This past weekend, I needed to stop by Wells to grab some cash. I had a hangover from the previous night and it was a couple hours past lunchtime where I didn't eat nathan. So this time around my appetite was there and Wells is down the street from where Yellow Submarine was at. I do recall driving past Subway sayin to myself: " No thanks. I want me a sandwich produced by a Non-Commercialized Manufacturer today." Anyways, I walk into the joint and the first thing music blastin was "If I ruled the World" by Nas Featuring Lauryn Hill. So I was like, "Hoooeee Shit. This place is jumpin. They slappin some dope Classic Hip Hop acoustics." What impressed me the most was that the Sandwich Generators were some good lookin females singing along to the song. I was like DOOOOPE. And then The next beat they dropped was BIG POPPA and once again the Female Sandwich Generators sang along, cuz you know , they Love it when you call them Big Poppa. SIIIICKKKK. There were two guys in front of me in line waiting for their order. I noticed it was a big ass order that they placed cuz I did notice like 6EA 9" SUBS being prepared. I was like..."uh oh, I don't think I'mma get served today." I didn't get the proper Immediate Customer Attention but I completely understood. I know what it's like to work for any type of Customer Service and I ain't no Entitled Prick of Royalty whoring for a drop of attention. For a good 3 Minutes and 37 Seconds (I counted) I was initially neglected. They even received a phone call order which they politely instructed the customer to come in to order because they were completely slammed and have a lot of other people waiting to order. While that Sandwich Generator was assisting with the call, another SG captured my attention and told me, "Sorry for the wait but we will be right there to take your order." And there it was. The neglected initiation was over, YEZ! Two other customers walked in and AKSED me if I was in line. I told them "Yeah" so they proceeded to wait after me. After two minutes and 37 seconds (I counted) , the two gentleman walked out perhaps because they wanted a Sandwich manufactured at a Commercialized Radio Friendly Incorporation. I didn't eat anything all day, felt slightly discombobulated from a brain overlapped slightly intoxicated (wait huh?), and it was already approaching 2pm. But I got the patience and when I set my mind to try something that my INK Stink says it WILL BE GOOD, I am 100 percent determined. (INK Stink eckwalls " instinct" by the way.) 1 minute and 37 seconds passed (I counted) and one of the Female Sandwich Generators took my order. She said, "Thank you very much for being patient Hon, sorry for the wait. I'll take your order now and have it ready for you right away." SCORE! I was ready to OAR DOOR! (that eckwalls Order). I proceeded with selecting Number 18 (If I recall correctly). Ham and Turkey with PROV. (normally I would order American Cheese but that's what the Number 18 was with PROV). Anyways, I decided to observe the place while I waited for my Order. What cracked me up was they sell T-Shirts and one of them said: "Real Men EAT OUT." PWAH. I also noticed that they served BEER there. COOL! 4 MINUTES AND 37 MINUTES had passed (I counted) and my Order was READY! That was Fast! SCORE! AND I WAS READY TO WALK OUT THA DOOR! Tips are always appreciated by them so I decided to leave them ONE Dollar and 37 cents. ( the cents part may have been EXAGGERATED because this time I didn't count and I just wanted to say 37). The wait was WELL WORTH IT. I don't know what it was that made this a PUSSY SANDWICH. Cuz you know, REAL MEN EAT OUT. I had mine on regular White Bread but it wasn't just regular to me. I do think the bread does make the sandwich and it made it taste GREAT. Maybe it was the shredded lettuce, combined with just enough red onion (not overwhelming to make your eyes bleed with tears or over-stank yo breff.). Maybe it was the oil and vinegar combined with the salt and pepper. Maybe I really JUST DON'T KNOW and MAYBE I JUST REALLY WANT another Pussy Sandwich right, NOW. Too bad I live hecklaw far away. *CRIES* I highly recommend this Place. Maybe next time I'll eat there, chug a few beers there, listen to some dope HIP HOP there, and get served by G.LO.Y.S. there. You know...get served by the GORGEOUS LADIES OF YELLOW SUBMARINE.

First time I heard of this place was a couple weeks back from an email I got from Yelp actually. I've lived in Reno all my life and I just now found out about this place. And let me tell you I can't believe what I've been missing. What a great atmosphere just waking in, the pictures and various decorations made it seem like a very open, very welcoming place. I was greeted by a very lovely lady who was nothing but nice and friendly. We chatted for a bit, I asked her what she would recommend. She told me to get the yellow submarine. So I did. I got everything on it because I wanted to know what it's supposed to taste like before I made any changes. And oh man, this thing is loaded up, big time. I got the 12" because I'm a big eater and I figured that'll be enough. Which is technically true but I couldn't even get half of it down before I was full. You get a ton of food. The best part about it? It was, by far, the absolute best sandwich I've ever had. Hands down. I fully believe the bread makes the sandwich and at the yellow submarine they bake their own bread, and it's so soft and delicious. Then they pile on the meat. seriously, they don't skimp on the meat which is great. Add a ton of fresh vegetables like onions and other toppings like Parmesan cheese (I believe). Like I said, the thing is massive and every bite is better than the one before. My head exploded from all the tastes my mouth was experiencing. I regret never hearing about this place until now, it's by far the best sandwich place I've ever been to. And I'll be a loyal customer of theirs for years to come. Thanks yelp for showing this place to me. Sandwiches made for the gods.

I tried sandwich as this is sandwich place though, the interior inside the place is little wired but sandwich is ok.i had a veggie sandwich with avacado, cucumber of 12 inch with half egg salad on the otherside the sandwitch is too salty overall taste is ok. Service is little bit slow, staff are friendly. 12 inch sandwich is pretty much sufficient quantity for two.sprouts with avacado tastes good.

The sandwich was fantastic! The last time I was here was around 10 years ago and I remembered it being good. It still is! The shop on the inside could use a little refresher with decorating a little less clutter but as far as the food... best sandwiches I've had in town!

I LOVE yellow sub, I probably eat here once a week. The sandwiches are huge, and stuffed full of scrumptious meats, cheeses, and suace. The classic Yellow Sub is always a winner, though I'm partial to the Hot Pastrami sandy. The lovely ladies working here are always generous with the portions. The interior is... whimsical? Not sure how to describe the decor, except to say there's lots of pictures of the employees, magazine and newspaper cutouts all over the walls, along with dolls and some old time pictures. Either way, it's a feast for the eyes while you wait for your order.

I was craving a sandwich after a very long 12 hour day at school, and saw reviews on Yelp and decided to check this place out. I went at like 7:30 pm (about 30 min before they close) and there was nobody in the store. The whole vibe of the place was pretty relaxed and homey with a vintage flair because all the walls were decorated and they even had some arcade games there as well, even some board games. The girl who took my order was super nice and made my sandwich right away, so I didn't have to wait long for it. I ordered the 12" Yellow Sub on white bread with no sprouts and tomatoes with pickles. I was surprised at the price of it because on another Yelpers photo of the menu it was priced at $8.75, now it is at $10, which a bit steep. I took the sandwich to go and when I went to eat it at home, noticed it was wrapped very nicely in brown paper so it wouldn't fall apart. The taste was very good, as there was parmesean cheese sprinkled on it. There were also a lot of toppings which added to its taste. There were a lot of meat on it, but the pastrami was a little on the fatty side and I had to take some off the sandwich. I was only able to eat half of the footlong, and saved the rest. The bread was very soft and tasty. It was a huge sandwich, but probably wouldn't order that one again because it was the most expensive one on the whole menu. When I asked for a to go menu, the girl said they were in the process of getting some more made because they just increased their prices. I'm thinking great....just when I find a cool place they start charging more. Just my luck. Overall great service, just a little bit too expensive for my taste especially with their price increases. I will probably try them again but order a less expensive, different one. I wanted to support a local business instead of going to Port of Subs or someplace like that. They also did charge a fee to use a debit card, which I really didn't like because I never carry cash on me, so with a tip it cost me about $15 for a 12" sub. I wouldn't pay that much again though. So plan to take cash with you here.

Really a 3.5. This place is very eclectic. A lot of character and charm, that is enhanced by their friendly and accommodating staff. Lots of cool stuff to check out on the walls and a very nice selection of microbrews to go with your sub. Tried this out with family, thought they did a good job. Staff was very good at making recommendations. The items we ordered were good, but didn't blow my doors off. They are a little over the top with the diced lettuce, it covers the sandwich. I did however, really like the fact that they add grated parmesan cheese to their subs. It definitely gave the sandwich a nice twist. I went with the hot roast beef and it was good but felt it was something I could have done at home. I am sure if I lived near by I would try more of their different choices. I will definitely stop by if I am in the area again.

We decided to come here again, and give it are 2nd review. And again, it was D-lishes as the last time. We even ordered a different sandwich to see if we could find a weakness in the food. Nope it is one of the best sub place around. I even bought one for work, I really surprised that they don't open another shop in southwest Reno. That would be the bomb, meaning good. Thanks again, Yellow Sub for being a great sandwich shop, see ya.

Everyone else has a review telling you about the women and the decor and the location and what have you, so you don't need me typing up more of the same. I'll be straight with you -- I called my order in, glared at the Christian Bookstore as I entered the lot Yellow Submarine calls home; was tempted by the Japanese Ramen Restaurant, and confounded by "The Mecca Lounge" next door. Apparently, Muslims drink Budweiser and Miller Light now. Being someone who is uncomfortable with religion in general; I wanted to get away from that section of town as fast as possible. I entered the friendly little sub shop, picked up my order, and got out with appropriate haste. I didn't look at the women, really. But that's a good thing. That means the service was fast and my order was waiting. I had ordered a 12" Number 9: "The Yellow Sub" ($8.75); I ordered it "as-is." That is: "Mayo, Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Oil, Vinegar, Salt, Pepper, and Parmesean [sic] Cheese" (Yes, even the menu misspellings are charming) on Fresh-Baked White Bread. My mother had ordered a 12" Number 14: "Turkey, Salami, Cheddar, and Dill" ($8.25) -- hold the salt -- with all the same things on it, plus sprouts (no additional charge) on Fresh-Baked Sourdough Bread. I had additionally instructed the shop to cut each of the sandwiches into thirds and individually wrap each section for the sake of our convenience. The sandwiches looked small in the bag, but were quite heavy. My pet wolf attempted to eat them several times on the way home. When we arrived and I unwrapped my first 33.3333% of a sandwich; I discovered that it had been heavy because it was condensed into a uniform sub shape by strong deli paper and masking tape. The wrapping job was serious business! When I beheld the thoughtful and considerate work that was put into maintaining the quality of my sandwich, I fell in love with Yellow Submarine a little bit. Both sandwiches looked incredible, thought my Number 9 had sprouts on it for some reason. It wasn't a bad thing, but it wasn't exactly accurate to my order. In fairness though, it ended up being better with the sprouts than it would have been without. The "Yellow Sub" is a great choice for a house specialty. I'm not sure what meats are on it; but they are perfect for the submarine sandwich. They blend together with the cheese in one's mouth to contrast the crunch of Yellow Submarine's fresh vegetables in a way that compliments the pillowy wonder that is their Fresh-Baked bread. Eating this sandwich was pure, unadulterated joy. The "Turkey, Salami, Cheddar, and Dill" was delicious and well-made, but a little weird in some ways. The dill pickles are either made at the restaurant or purchased from a local supplier, because they're the sort of pickles you'd find in a 16th century farmhouse's cellar. They're fantastic; soft in the center and crunchy around the outside, and just reeking of dill. But if you aren't expecting that texture, you could wind up scratching your head more than tasting. It's as good a sandwich as the "Yellow Sub," but more advanced eating; but the flavor combination in this sandwich will light up more sections of your brain than others you can order, that's for sure. Additional no-charge toppings are offered including: "Mustard, Pickles, Peppers, Olives, Jalepenos [sic], Cuccumber [sic], and Pineapple." Between white, wheat, and sourdough bread; I'd say it's a draw. Being a most-of-the-time Paleo eater, I tend to shy away from whole wheat bread; but if it's anything like the white and sourdough breads here, the difference in deliciousness will be negligible. I think when it comes to bread, meat, cheese, and veggies -- Yellow Submarine can do no wrong. Don't order the chips though, I think they're like $3 a bag or something. Score: 4.5 / 5.0

OMG the salad!! Best way to describe this place = eclectic! The decor is funky and welcoming and the staff are punchy and abrupt, in a fun way! But of course, you are coming here for the gigantic sandwiches (and salads). These babies are HUGE! Piled high with good quality meats and cheese and all the toppings you could imagine including avocado, sprouts, jalepenos, etc. When we arrived at noon on a Saturday the line was almost out the door - we came back an hour later and had no wait, so I recommend going at off-peak hours because they are popular! Can't believe I have been missing out on this awesome sub shop for so many years. My salad provided me THREE meals! All for less than $10. What are you waiting for?

in a world full corporate cookie cutter sameness, there are those who stand out. chances are, they have been around awhile and they might remind you of your smelly old eccentric uncle, not likely to change much and that's a good thing. every city has at least one. sparks has one too. that is of course, the yellow submarine, the venerable sub shop in a slumming old strip mall on pyramid highway. i finally found the confluence of hunger, money and location and stopped in. now if order and symmetry make you happy, this is not your place. for there is memorabilia to ponder and enjoy in every square inch of the place, running the gamut of 20th century pop culture. its a wonderful way to spend a few minutes waiting for your food. and the food? i had a tuna sub and it was quite good. the meatball sandwich being prepared looked amazing. the smells and smiles and friendly customer service all contributed to an overall festive vibe, which i suspect is part of yellow submarines charm and appeal. my only complaint was the choice of bread used. franco, while local, is mass produced. i know this is sparks and not incline village, but for a 6$ 6" sub i would expect something a little more gourmet and substantial. i guess i could paraphrase and old saying and quote "i have incline village tastes on a sparks budget!". but this is only a momentary nitpick. i love places like this and will always try to support them. you should too

HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE SANDWICH PLACE .. EVER ! Every time I come to Reno I absolutely make it a must to go to Yellow Sub. I order the turkey with american cheese and it is freckin delicious. I didn't ever think a deli sandwich could be delicious lol. The meat and cheese taste so fresh. I don't know what it is that they do so differently but whatever it is, don't stop! I usually get the 6 inch and can never finish it. The meat and lettuce are always falling off the whole time too because it is so stuffed with food. The girls are always super friendly too. We usually go in a large group and it never takes more than 5 minutes for us to get our food. Can't wait to go back :)
