What a diamond in the rough. The truckee river bar and grille is located off california near reno high school. It is most definitely a locals restaurant. They have been there for over 30 years. If you did not know they were there, you would probably pass them by. I happened to just to the sign while cruising through the parking lot. I would guess the majority of there business is from the bar side, which is open from when the restaurant opens in the morning till 12 midnight. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only, except on Wednesdays when they have italian night. I ordered off the early bird menu, and ordered a egg tostada. It came with beans, a corn crunchy tortilla, a egg shapped like a taco that was filled with onions, ground beef ,scallions and spices. Served with the tostada is a generous helping of fresh fruit. This breakfast was not by any means exceptional, but it was very good. The price was also awesome, out the door for 10 bucks. I will definitely be back.

I took my assistant here to give her some old school Reno flavor. And boy the TRB&G did not disappoint! We were greeted and seated in a hurry by one of the nicest women in the state. We both ordered soup and salad - both prepared just like I remember it 15 plus years ago. It wasn't expensive and the service was fast - my type of joint. This isn't some new fangled joint that specializes in organic food or locally grown produce. It's a locally owned place that has been around forever that you can get a good meal at a good price. I've never been here for anything but lunch, but I can imagine it has a nice regular crowd in the evenings for a cold brew or a pop as well.

Carlena is the bomb!! Best bartender in all of Reno!!! TRB&G has great food and prices are very reasonable. What more could one ask?

Do you ever eat at a place and not go back for a couple of years, and then stop by again and realize why you originally quit going there. I used to frequent Truckee Bar and Grill on California and Booth streets in Reno, but quit going due to the lack of service once you were seated. Today I decided to give them another try. The service continues to suck. Once you place your order and receive it you are placed in no man's land. Forever to get drink refills, and forever to receive the bill so that you can finally end the nightmare. The food is mediocre at best, the prices are a little high, and the place is in desperate need of a good cleaning and update. Don't eat at Truckee Bar and Grill, go somewhere else.

Well I was skeptical to come Into this place due to the reviews but I decided to take a chance since it's down the street from my new place, has football ,and I heard cheap drinks. This place screams local bar like a crazy football fan screaming at the TV. Everyone knows each others name, knows the bartenders by name and shift and the bartender will take time to learn your name and what you want to be your regular drink. The drinks are cheap, the food isn't beyond amazing but it's good old pub food. Try the wings and potato skins! Draft beer selection isn't big but they have Stella and that's good enough for me. Good size amount of bottled beer though. All in all, wasn't as bad as I had feared. If you expect filet mingon and Wolfgang puck you'll be disappointed but if you want affordable drinks and some good wings definitely check this place out. The only downside is sometimes they have a appetizer menu and not the full menu.

One of my favorite neighborhood bars and a go to place when you want great food and good drinks. Tuesdays are pizza night. Wednesday is Italian. Thursdays is tacos that rival jimboys. Only been coming here a few months and already am treated like I've been here twenty years.

I'm bumping them up a star because their bartender Andy makes the best Cadillac margarita hands down. Holy smokes, 2 of them and I need a DD.

We come here on random afternoons for brunchy lunch. Food's good, love the 2 side options coz I can either carb load or go light w/ salad and soup. I always have something to take home - Half of the Lakeside generally... Portions are big, the ambience is great for a no frills want to go read the paper atmosphere. I hear the thing about the servers - sometimes I have to wave like I'm drowning (jk) but i like not to be bothered too so I get what I wish for. Fri Night & Sat Night they have "Bar Food" which severely limits the menu - FYI. Plus its 18+ weekend evenings in our experience. Used to have Pasta Wednesdays - 3 meals in one... NOT AFFILIATED with the HORRIFic other Truckkee Barr & Grill II down on Moana-ish.

I've been here for a lunch a few times and I think the trick is to stick with what you like. I tried to branch out today and go with the roast beef dip. It was pretty dry and the au jus was bland. I'll be sticking with my grilled ham and cheese in the future. I like that they offer two sides, but wish they were better across the board. The fries are good, but the coleslaw is terrible. I've had the potato salad in the past and it's passable at best. I might do a soup or salad next time instead of continuing to play roulette with the other side options. I like that they have different daily specials here. In addition to a burger or sandwich type special, they also offer a mexican food special. I haven't ever tried it, but I like that the specials aren't limited to one item. They also rotate their soup daily. Service here is just fine. They're attentive and quick to refill your glass, but not constantly dropping by asking how your meal is. If you have a problem here, you'll have to speak up. Which is fine by me. Overall, Truckee River Bar and Grill is a nice place to stop in for a decent hot lunch outside of the downtown corridor. It's never too busy and the food is just fine once you figure out what you like.

Dear Truckee River Bar and Grill, You lost a customer last night. In fact, you may have lost potential customers for the future. I entered and stood at the door. I waited while several customers were served at the bar, a waitress refilled water glasses and chatted with customers at a table where a group of girls were seated. I waited as a young man came out, glanced my way, and returned to the kitchen. I waited. There were customers at the bar and in the restaurant, but there were a number of empty tables; it was not extraordinarily busy. Eventually, I turned around, went out, and made my way to another restaurant. I'm gray-haired, neither sexy nor rich. But I live in the neighborhood, I have family and friends, and I've been to TRB&G before. That means that if I were to return -- which won't happen soon -- it would be with other diners. It also means that every customer has the potential to compliment the restaurant or sling arrows at it. Last night, you lost just one sale by ignoring me. Who knows how many you lost for the future, or how many others have turned away in the past? The attitudes of the wait staff often reflect the attitudes of the owners. Remember: every customer is important,. and each one represents the potential for return business. I am not a non-person because I was alone. The next time a customer walks in the door, pay attention.

Personally I give the TRB&G hands down five stars. Their food has always been great and just enough to fill a hungery stomach. But the real reason they excel in customer service is behind the bar. Kenna and Andy are two of my favorite bartenders in reno, they truely bring life to the establishment and always put a lot of care into their work. If you ever are around you should stop by to get a drink from one of these two and have your day lightened with their charming personalities.

Horrible service. They take the customer for granted. Management should remodel their staff.

I go to lunch with some friends once a month and we try different spots. This time we tried Truckee River Bar and Grill. We had all been there in the past, but not lately. We got there for lunch, were seated immediately. The place seemed kind of dark and lifeless. But the waitress was nice. Se got us drinks quickly, and took our order. We could tell the waitress was coming near because her perfume got there 10 seconds before she did. The food was just ok. I had a turkey sandwich, a side of coleslaw, a side of cottage cheese, and it all as overwhelmed by the waitress's perfume. My friends both had the roast beef sandwiches, and commented that they were dry. I am only writing because I think if he owner read this and the other yelp entries, he might want to change a few things and make the place more likeable. Too often in this town business owners think their businesses are perfect and never need to change. This one needs a little more life, a little less perfume, and a little more moisture in the sandwiches.

Perfectly located in my neighborhood stomping ground, the TRB&G has been here forever. They are open for lunch daily -- which suits me fine as I've never eaten dinner here. Provided a restaurant has a couple of items I like, they've got me for life. Here it's the chicken salad sandwich and the vegetarian sandwich. Their hamburgers aren't bad either. I'd give these items 4 stars if it weren't for their crappy sides. Skip the coleslaw and potato salad -- both are YUCKY. Ask for a small salad or cottage cheese instead, or have fries. Even canned peaches are an improvement. Overall the food is about the same as standard coffee shop fare, but the prices are about 25% more than you'll pay at Denny's. The interior is very '70s in a kinda cheap, but nonoffensive way. Waitresses tend to be a cut above average. Mostly not too young, not too old, they are pleasant women trying to make a few bucks working part time. The servers here get 4 stars because they listen carefully when you have special requests and are great about refilling your beverage. Wayne D. and those of his plain old coffee ilk, will appreciate their regular boy's coffee. The bar is located inside the restaurant and gets fairly busy in the evening. If you like going where there's a neighborhood atmosphere in a nice neighborhood, but somewhere that is unsnooty and unassuming, TRB&G suits the bill to a T.
