I have been here numerous and just realized that I've never reviewed the place. I love it here, the food has almost always been great. There was only one time that the food came a bit cold, but they remedied that. There has only been one dish that I wasn't too fond of and it was one of the flavors of wings that they have. It definitely wasn't for me. The normal buffalo wings and the jalapeno won tons are amazing! I love the dipping sauce they give you with the won tons. Although, the last couple times I have gone in the skimped a little on the sauce for the wings. They were pretty dry, unfortunately. Still tasted great. Beer is wonderful as well. I'm pretty sure I've tasted them all so far (except any seasonals that might have come out in the past couple months) and I have enjoyed all but maybe 1 or 2. This isn't to say that the beer was bad, it just wasn't for me so don't let that steer you away from trying anything. I'm not fond of lighter beers and those were the ones that were not quite to my taste but wanted to try them anyway to see if I would like them. I enjoy going there during the warmer months as I love sitting outside. They have a nice little area but it can get a bit cramped. It is nice to sit out there and chill though. The reason why they are getting 4 stars over 5 though is service. Every time we've gone in there it has been hit and miss. Some days we will go in there and receive spectacular service. Other times we don't. Examples of good service we've received: Servers are on top of everything, make sure to refill waters when they notice it's low, ask us for beer refills, come out to check if everything is okay multiple times during visit, and we rarely have had to flag them down for anything unless there was something specific we remembered we wanted. They bring everything out in a timely manner. Not a long wait for anything unless they are slammed then of course service gets a tiny bit slower. Examples of Bad service: servers have forgotten to put our food orders into to the back, and end up still having to wait for over an hour (for something as simple as wings) without any discount or apology for forgetting and then still having to wait, complaints of tips on the floor where customers can hear. I always tip fairly well regardless of service, but bad service usually gets a tad less that good service. One server was standing right behind us and was bad mouthing our 25% tip for her even though she was awful. At least wait for your customer to leave. Bad mouthing customers and fellow employees within earshot of customers and not acknowledging customers are other bad sides we have experienced. I've had more good service than bad service and we love the food so we will keep playing the odds on service and hope it comes out in our favor. I wish I was better with names, there is a gentlemen server here that is always amazing. We've had him serve our table on a few occasions and he is fantastic. The next time we go back I'll have to try and grab his name.

I love this place. Excellent selecion of microbrews, good food, and Kelly is a great bartender. Ill be coming here for a long time. Especially for Tightwad Tuesdays !!!

Ok so with all the 4 and 5 stars this place had, my husband and I wanted to try their "award winning" beer and it was dinner time so why not eat there too. At first I was skeptical with all the bad service reviews, I know what it's like to have a bad day so maybe that was the case right? WRONG! This idea failed miserably. Our waitress seemed as if she was carefree, every time we needed something my husband had to get her attention. I have high expectations of waitresses because I used to be one, so therefore there is no excuse. The worst part the restaurant wasn't busy and she didn't have that many tables. Ok, the beer, well my husband and I love IPA's and the 6% something IPA was not satisfying very bland and diluted to our personal opinion. Our preference is 8% ABV+. We tried just about all the beer we could and it was just not our preference. The food was average. Lastly I wrote constructive criticism on our bill with a tip letting her know she should check on her tables more often and I left and my husband stayed behind to use the restroom and when he comes out he overhears the waitress complaining to another waitress about the note left behind. Then she realizes my husband is behind her and is silent. Very professional GBB. You should probably train your crew on restaurant ethics and courtesy because obviously there is a problem. On a good ending note the root beer was delicious.

I have been here several times and I am becoming disappointed each visit service ok beer is great and if you like appetizers they got it but the last couple times sandwiches or salads left me disappointed I am not sure if they are changing kitchen staff here but it's not the same as it used to be. That being said I will go back for the great beer love to support locals

Four of us had lunch during the week and I ordered the bratwurst sandwich, which is described as something other than what I got. Bread was dry and hard, brat was difficult to even cut with a knife, let alone bite into, and the "grilled" onions were clear and cool to the touch, with no sign of ever meeting up with a grill. Have had poor food here previously and forgot to avoid, so won't try it again. BTW, fish (as in "fish & chips") are itty bitty strips of some fish, not actually a chunk....Too many other decent places close by!

The women's restroom looked a little like a war zone....but I'll let that slide because the place is cool. I'm only giving it 3 stars tonight because my fish was a little bit cold when I got it. Flavor was great though and the garlic fries are very good. It was super busy.

I'll give it two stars for the Bruban sandwich because it truly was an awesome sandwich. I gotta say, I'm so extremely disappointed in two things: first, the garlic fries weren't great and I'd prefer fresh garlic to freeze dried. Second, and the reason I won't be back to this location, is the service at the bar. I was there two weeks ago on a Friday, sat at the bar (which was dead) during lunch 1ish, the bartender was nowhere to be seen for at least 7-10 min when she did finally come out of the kitchen she delivered insult after insult when I didn't pronounce the name of the Mayan beer correctly. Then she was complaining to another patron, how slow they were and that she would not even make enough tip money to pay for her growler she had filled.....wow! She was a horrible horrible bartender and I will not be back to this location because of the service. I do love the Sparks location, just a shame as I don't get out that way much.

This place has always been "our" place. Back when we lived in Winnemucca (aka BFE), whenever we would come to Reno we would go to one of the Great Basin locations. Huge selection of delicious beer, great food, fun atmosphere. Not a thing has changed. We still love this place. I absolutely love beer in general but Great Basin beer is especially good. I've tried many of them and dislike very few. The Icky is basically my BFF of the beer world. I tried the Whoop Ass tonight and it was also rad. The fried pickles are our usual go-to appetizer because YUM. Tonight we tried the special which was fried asparagus. Also very good! For dinner I had a brat which came on one of their buns they make there and it was perfection. And garlic fries, oh my. I love those. (So much for my diet. Tomorrow is a new day.) Husband had the tri tip sandwich and said he gives it 4 stars, due to the meat being a tad too chewy. This may come as a shocker if you've been reading my reviews but my son did not order a cheeseburger. I KNOW. I was pretty floored, myself. He remembered the Mac and cheese from a long ago visit and got that. Great Basin can make a mean Mac and cheese. I would venture to say it's the best I've ever had (of course I tried a bite!). The daughter got Mac and cheese too, they both loved it. Great Basin remains one of my favorite spots to eat in the whole world.

Obviously the beer is great. I love icky in the bottle, but on tap it tastes much better (of course). It isn't the strongest IPA out there, but the taste doesn't linger in your mouth for hours. The garlic fries are delicious and the other food I've had is normal. Next time I go, I'm getting the Cerveza Chilebeso!

Just got into Reno and we are starved and thirsty! Looking over the menu SO many things look good... I finally decide on the Grilled Chicken & Artichoke Pasta: Sliced grilled chicken breast, artichoke hearts, and diced tomato over fettuccini in our zesty garlic cream sauce, served with garlic Ichthyosaur bread. SO NOT WORTH IT!! The noodles were overcooked, the sauce had ZERO flavor with NO hint of garlic and I LOVE garlic! UGH. So totally disappointed with this entree =( Service was MEH as well. She seemed totally annoyed at times and at other times she was more helpful. All in all NOT a good dining experience!

They had really good food and drinks. But I went with my dad and went sat in "the bar area." Well come to find out that the area next to the bar (is a server area) not knowing that we sat in it anyways. None of the servers or host said anything. After sitting for 10-15 minutes of a consent flow of servers and a manager walking by I asked if I should order from the bar or wait for a server to show up. They said it's a server area and should be helped soon. The guy that originally helped us was cool, started our drink order and got us menus. However after that the server that was suppose to help us acted like we were inconvenience to her job. Overall food was really good, service need to chill out and be more helpful to the patrons, both servers and hosts. The host need to watch people walking into the bar area and sitting down. From my experience the bar area is designed to be open seating. Especially with tables of two. Overall the food was excellent the service needs to be more attentive as well as helpful.

Our daughter flew in from Ft Bragg before being deployed to the middle east. One of the hostesses helped keep her hidden so could surprise her little sisters, not only did the surprise go off do well but after our lunch we found out that the hostess had payed for our lunch to thank our daughter for her military service. Thanks Giving Dinner Special... I've always liked the Great Basin's food... I always get the same thing thought, because it's 1 of the best sandwiches I've ever known. The day before Thanksgiving I went with my lady because she wanted the Salmon dish that she usually gets when we go there... We have only sat at the bar everytime we've been. This time the bar was full (as usual, but we usually get a seat) so we had to sit at 1 of the small tables next to the bar. For some reason, with things being now different, sitting at a table and having a server instead of the bartender who now knows what we want when we sit down, I opened the menu at looked at it for the 1st time in a long time. I saw the Thanksgiving dinner special and pointed at it... my lady said "oooh U should get that!" so I went ahead and ordered it. It's true I have no familly and it's been a long time since a had a home cook thanksgiving dinner. But back in the day my mom and grannies did it up just like anyones fam did... What I received as a thanksgiving dinner from the great basin was quite possiblely the best thanksgiving dinner I have ever had. The favors, the size, the Yams and stuffing were amazing and trust me i can't believe I'm saying that because I've never cared about yams or stuffing. If my mom and grannie were still alive I would happily take them here for the Thanksgiving dinner! Big thanks to my lady for telling me what to get. The down side is it probably won't be available again until next year... which honestly there's no reason to not have it on the regular menu for people who like being thankful all year around.

I give the food 3 stars. Bread is the high point of this restaurant, very good. The beer is at the lower end of 3 stars. They need to work on getting some flavor into it. Service is usually good. I would eat there again. Not a place that I would take someone to impress them.

I met three co-workers here for a work-date on a Friday evening during happy hour. I was happy to see $1.00 pizza during happy hour, plus deals on their draft beers. We ordered a flight of six different beer tasters, three of us ordered two slices of pizza each, one ordered nachos, and we each ordered a pint of beer and the bill was only $42. Bargain! The nachos were good, could have used some salsa, but there were no shortage of toppings. The pizza was actually pretty good...I could smell it when I walked in, and knew I had to order it. It was a little on the greasy side, which doesn't bother me...but I did see one of my co-workers dabbing the grease off with a napkin! We had two different servers (shift change) and they were both funny, friendly and knew what they were talking about when it came to the menu (how refreshing!). The place was packed - obviously pretty popular. I see the Sparks location has deals on carnitas tacos instead of pizza, so I'd like to try that... But I will definitely return to this location, too!

Great beer selection! They have a variety that could please anyone from the coors drinkers to the Pliny lovers. I am a craft beer fanatic and I must say they surprised me with some of their offerings ( a kaffir lime and basil saison!) the wife had the brewben and said it was the best meal we've had on our vacations so far. The margarita pizza was delish as well. I had the salmon tacos and they were just so so. Paired them with a chilibeso beer which helped. Next time we visit I would order the Mac and cheese or one of their yummy sounding burgers. I like that they took over the old south of the boarder location. This local is nicer than the nugget location that I went to years ago.

Remember the 1990's when here was a "micro-brew" fad? Small breweries were built all over the place, then by the 2000's, they were going out of business. Now, there's the craft brew movement. In Reno, they never gave up on the micro-brewery. Witness Great Basis Brewery, in business since 1993. I can't believe I never tried this place until this year. My loss. Having stopped here, it's not a wonder that it survived. I came for the finest three words in the English language: pizza and beer (a very large glass of beer, by the way). The beer was perfect to my taste buds, a kolsch style ale. 5 stars! The pizza was very good. Not the best I've ever had (I've had pizzas from celebrity chefs), but still excellent. My wait-person was a young woman who was very attentive and very pleasant. Excellent job. I'm tempted to give the place 5 stars, but it's not quite the best there is. I'm definitely a fan. So I'm going to select 4 stars above, but it does rank a little higher than that. A great Reno option for food and beverage. I will be back.

Bad service, mediocre food with portions that are much too big, there is better food than this in Reno! Here is what bugged me most with the service. I brought in my iPad on a slow afternoon and wanted to take my time and chill out reading the news. The server rushed me. She brought my bill half way during meal; it felt like I was eating at a truck stop. She also took plate before I was done without even asking if I was finished. I had 1/3 of my meal left and was slowly munching away while reading. Look up and she was grabbing my plate. The weird thing is that she had just started her shift and the place was empty... The Food: First off the portions too large. I mean you get 3x the amount of food one should eat. This really bugs me. I guess it is good if you are sharing with people but I hate that you feel pressured to over eat and at how much food goes to waste. When you don't have a fridge at your hotel its hard to take leftovers. For a restaurant that prides themselves as environmentally friendly they need to reconsider serving that amount of food without at least warning people what they are getting. The quality of the food is pretty poor. I had two appetizers: The Zucchini sticks and the mushroom quesadilla. The Zucchini sticks were very bland; they were fresh which is good, but had no seasoning. The beer batter was also very flavorless. Next the Mushroom Quesadilla: disgusting. They took an item that is really really hard to F' up and murdered it. I'm actually slightly impressed a quesadilla could taste so bad! They sprayed the bottom of it with commercial PAM! It made it greasy and disgusting. Whats even more annoying is I didn't even get sour cream or salsa with it. It was just the quesadilla all alone on the plate. I have had a quesadilla at literally 100 different places this is the first one where I didn't get salsa with it and they added grease like that. It was horrible. On the plus side I now know how to get rid of the in-laws if they stay too long. Just spray their food in cooking spray! Lasty the only saving grace: The Beer was decent. The Menu talks of numerous awards they have received but fails to mention the names of those awards. So I'm a little skeptical that its award winning. It is fresh and made in house. So my advice: don't order any food, just drinks. Better yet go somewhere else!

The last time we were there for a special family dinner, we were seated within 15 minutes (and that was WITH a reservation) then had to repeatedly ask our server to check on the status of our food - especially when we noticed folks coming after us and getting their food. We had out-of-town family and had been looking forward to a nice dinner out; we were there for 2 hours, it was late, and the kids had school the next day. No explanation, no apology - ruined us for ever going back at night for dinner. So today my husband and several friends went to this GB for their weekly lunch get-together. The place was jam-packed, so one of the guys went to the bar to get a beer while waiting. Only one bartender, who served some folks who came to the bar after he was already standing there. He asked the bartender why she did that, and was told "they moved from another spot at the bar" - no apology for ignoring him waiting to be served. Then he gave her a $20 but only got $5 back in change. He said "Excuse me, but I gave you a $20", and she grudgingly gave him back an additional $10. Then after he returned to the waiting area with his beer, the bartender came over and said she needed his name and phone number because they were going to review the video surveillance to verify if he did indeed give her a $20. My husband said the way this whole thing was handled was very unprofessional and discourteous to his friend as a customer, not to mention the embarrassment of being accused of cheating. No one in the group ever intends to go back there again, nor will we or any of our friends that we tell about this.

Lunch at GBBC. I love the beer. I love the staff. Its not my favorite food but it is always good. The pizza is probably the best American style pizza in town. (Only available at the Reno location. Sorry Sparks.) Did I mention the BEER? My go to lunch items are the Blackened Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Fish Tacos. Happy Hour all day on Tuesday. Great for kids. Grab a Growler to take hope. Ya know what... This place is a brightly colored feather in the cap of Reno! I freaking love all the inventive brews Tom, Bonda, Doug, and the brewers put out, the killer energy I feel everytime I walk into the place, and how they are continually expanding their reach to new markets which is really putting our community on the map! Great Basin is a fantastic place to meet up with friends for happy hour, especially during Tightwad Tuesdays when most pints are $2.50 all night long! I actually bumped into Yelper Katharine S last time I was there! At the Reno brewery they typically have 10-15 of THEIR OWN BEERS on tap, so Tightwad Tuesdays is a great way to try a few and find your favorites! Along with those, they also have a nice selection of what they call "Rare Bottles", most of which are Belgian style brews in bomber bottles (22 oz.). When it comes to food, my favorites here are simple! Their pizzas are great first and foremost, the fish and chips is legendary in Reno and the cucumber salad they come with is baller, but what I love the most is just a warm loaf of their fresh Icky Bread served with a lot of butter. Honestly, there's nothing quite like carb overload on great brews, bread, and bar bites. Their making waves all over the region with their award winning beer, and pretty soon, Great Basin Brewing Co. is going to be a household name. Get in while you can, and let me know when you're going because I just may join ya!

On our way to Tahoe we decided to stop here and grab dinner and some drinks. We were STARVING and the menu looked fantastic. One of our friends in our group lives in Reno and recommended this restaurant and also told us that everything was really good so we were excited. I ordered the beef porter stew, and my friends ordered Grilled Chicken and Artichoke pasta, pizza, fish and chips, garlic fries, and a spinach salad. My stew was a very small serving in a big bread bowl, so basically most of my meal was bread. The stew itself was tasty. 2.5/5. Fish and Chips: The chips were actually garlic fries and were not very good. The fish was just okay and a bit dry. 2.5/5 Chicken & artichoke pasta: This was on the verge of disgusting. Over cooked mushy fettucini noodles, bland milky sauce and dry chicken. 0/5 Pizza: This is the only reason why this review is even getting 2 stars, because the pizza was pretty decent. 4/5 SERVICE: Our server was clueless. She had no idea if the bar had certain things, and every question we asked about the menu, she answered with "I'm not sure." It took forever for her get our drinks and our order and she didn't give us any straws. On top of that, the restaurant seemed to be out of a ton of the beers we wanted to try. All in all, this was a HUGE disappointment and I will NOT be going back nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Great Basin is a great local establishment with an excellent selection of drinks and comfort food. They have great pizza, Mac and cheese, burgers, sandwiches and more. Obviously being a brewery they have an incredible beer selection and they also have ciders, wine and a full bar. Be sure to try one of the beers they have on Nitro for the smoothest tastiest beer available. They change the beers on nitro all the time so you should be able to find something you like. You can't go wrong with the cowboy coffee stout on nitro. I recommend the garlic fries over regular or sweet potato fries if you are into that sort of thing. I had a Mouse Trap Grilled cheese with Gouda, Mozzarella, Provolone and cheddar cheese. Of course like any sane person I added bacon as well. It was the best grilled cheese I have ever had. Perfectly crunchy and cheesy. When you pull the halves apart the cheese stretches on for miles.

Love their choices of beers on tap, always a good selection. I am looking forward to their IPA April. I am a big IPA beer guy and think the Tectonic is one of the best ever. Unfortunately it is a seasonal special and not available at all times. They are trying a few versions of their Hopic Thunder. The first was my favorite and the second version was not the same as the hops used were different. For their food, I always get their Jalapeno WonTons. They are to die for. Prices are reasonable and never super crowded and we can usually find room for two at the bar.

This place is located at the end of a parking lot maze. It was crowded, so we thought this place was going to be great. We were disappointed. The food was mediocre and the portions were small. Curious about the garlic fries that everyone raves about? They're standard fries with freeze dried garlic flakes sprinkled on top. Now the beer. We tried three different ones, an ale, and two different IPA's to our surprise they all tasted the same and they did not have much taste at that.

This is a great spot to check out. It's a great option to grab lunch for if you're out and about shopping at the mall or around south Reno. They don't really have many competitors in this part of town as a microbrewery/restaurant place. Lots of good beers. I usually get the Wild Horse Ale. There are some good food options. The pizza's good. It seems like they need to add just a few more items on their sandwich menu. I usually get the trip tip sandwich, fish and sticks or share a pizza.

Very average brewery. The beer is a solid 4 star and the food is a 2. So 4+2=6 divide that by 2 and you get your 3 star. Ahhhhh yeah still go it. On to the the food and dranks. Had a beer flight to sample some of their most popular and seasonal beers. I was happy with the taste and selection. i don't remember the name of my favorites, but who cares, everyone has their own beer palate. For the food we had the fish and chips $11.95, as well as the sausage sampler $8.95. We were able to eat the food, but it could have been much better and impressive. Especially considering that these are bar favorites. The service was below average, our server was all of the place.

In contrast to the my experience at the Sparks GBBC, my experience here was one of good service but marginal food. Our server was exceedingly patient with a large, poorly-organized party with many small children. The food was pretty much meh. 2 stars food, 4.5 stars service. A few dings: The front end should improve the description of the kids meals. Beer-batter (great for fish n chips) is strange on a "chicken finger". Sugar on sweet potato fries? Totally unnecessary. It's not a dessert. Stop it. Under-ripe bland tomatoes that take up around 20% of a salad: it's July; get some ripe tomatoes! Nasty. Stop it.

I am a frequent customer at both of your Reno establishments, but tonight I visited the Virgina/McCarran location and I was extremely unimpressed by my service. I typically have nothing but positive feedback... My waitress was hardly available throughout the evening and when we had issues with our check at the end of the meal we didn't see her or get the issue resolved for over 30 minutes. She was not very accommodating nor accurate, I will not be likely to visit this location again any time in the near future.

The beer here is EXCELLENT! The little fried pickles, awe inspiring. The sweet potato waffle fries were good enough to entice many hands to steal them off my plate, the service however? Horrendous. We had to waive our waitress down who was totally slammed with way too many tables. We practically had to beg for our beverages to be re-filled. Next time, we will buy our beer at the store to enjoy it at home.

When we first walked in no one acknowledged us for approx 10 minutes. We were almost to the point of walking out when a lady asked if we had been helped. They were about 50% full so there was no reason it should have taken that long to get seated. Once seated our drink order was taken and the waitress was friendly. The food was hot and fresh. The batter on the chicken fingers I ordered was different and good. For two beers and two meals the bill was about 50 with the tip. The beer is ok I have had many breweries that taste much better. We went here because of all the good reviews but we were not impressed. I wouldn't go back.

Last night they were packed and we were told there was a 15 minute wait. We sat down and waited only 5 minutes before our table was called. The food was delicious, I ordered the Cuban, and although the waitress was clearly busy, our food was delivered quickly, we had extra napkins and I didn't need anything more to drink. She apologized for not being able to make it to our table, and my friend and I were not even upset. When we get together we tend to talk a lot, so having a waiter/waitress checking in all the time is not ideal, so this was perfect.

I almost want to give this 5 stars ..its that good. I had the bacon blue burger which was incredible. They wont cook less than medium and that is slightly overdone for me. Husband had the bbq bacon burger and his only issue was not enough bbq sauce but thats easily fixed by asking for extra. When you ask for crispy fries...you actually get crispy fries. I am stuffed full but already wanting to go back for more. Lately I've been addicted to the chicken Ceasars wrap and their onion rings. Omg the onion rings. They are the bomb!!!

I don't even know how to rate it. The food was 3.5-4 stars, typical pub fare, good french fries, good sandwich, etc. My friend had the red beer and said it was very good. However, the service was AWFUL. Never got a refill on drinks (my friend would have ordered another beer), had to ask a different waitress for our check, and not any sort of "Sorry, we're really busy" or acknowledgment at any even possible misstep in service. I will be back, but I can get better service and the same quality food elsewhere.

That being said I finally decided to write a review because it seems every time I come here my server is less than helpful. I have always enjoyed the GBBC so when I recently moved back to town I was looking forward to another visit. Come to find new locations!! This review is simple... the craft beers are second to none. There is one, or three, for everyone. However, the fish, both the cod tacos and fish and chips are second to none. Not just in this town, but second to none anywhere. Try them, love them.

My friends, husband, daughter and I went here for our Mother's day dinner. I really enjoyed it! The service was excellent, even though they were busy! Our waitress checked on us often and was polite, yet sociable. The food was good! I got the BBQ Bacon Burger with sweet potato fries. Both were delicious, but the sweet potato fries are amazing! They manage to play the sweetness and the starchiness of a sweet potato up. My husband had the Mouse Trap Grilled Cheese and added avocado. He thought it was just okay. My friends got the Sonoran Style Fish Tacos, the Loaded Nachos (She just got a half order and it was still huge!), and the Fish and Chips. They all loved their meals. Most of us wiped our plates clean. I'm not an avid beer drinker, but my husband is and he loves their beer. His favorite is the Cerveza Chili Beso. I bought him a growler, which is a great purchase, and we get it filled up as often as possible! It's such a great deal and he loves it! We will definitely return to Great Basin in the future!

Icky(their trademark beer) is an appropriate name . Table was sticky along with floor. View of brewing area included dirty buckets and rags. Flies along dirty windows and dusty blinds. Now onto the food: Bad. Ordered the salmon special. Seemed to be right out of the prepared frozen food bag folks. Soggy vegetables in a pool of water, bland, etc., need I say more. Maybe I should have just ordered a hamburger. Service: Amateurish. Had to track down waitress which took a few minutes after the food arrived to get silverware, who then looked at me in disbelief instead of just apologizing and putting utensils on the damn table. Beer: Mediocre. In a world crowded with so many good microbreweries, the "ICKY" was just OK. Perhaps in their day when the concept was new, it may have been a novelty, but this particular brew was just so-so. Overall very disappointing.

The food is good and you can never go wrong with their icky ipa. We sat at the bar and I must say I was unimpressed with the service. Service can be iffy tonight's was great. I find that it's 50 50 as well in food as sometimes it is great and others it's mediocre at best. I love the Nevada gold beer ad typically I like the Mac an cheese with barley crusted chicken, burger I ordered tonight was nothing to write home about. I like the chicken club sandwich as well.

Bad attitude and she wasn't even busy and still didn't have time to come by the table to ask us how everything was, refills on waters, stuff like that and when we were done with everything she still took her sweet time getting back to the table to see if we wanted anything else or our check. The beer brought me in. The food made me a return customer. I'll be back every time I visit Reno. I had the speciality pizza "garlic sauces with crayfish. Was outstanding. My wife had the fish and chips for her first time and loved it. If ur in the area this place is worth a visit. GET ICKY WIT IT!!

I was very disappointed with this restaurant. I called ahead to see if a reservation could be made for the following day, and I was rudely told no. Not sorry, that's not our policy. Just a flat out no and in a way that sounded like my large party was just going to inconvenience the staff. We arrived the next day and was seated, but the staff were emotionless but efficient. The food was not great either. I had the Shepard's pie, which was extremely soupy. Another person had French fries, which were soggy. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place.

"Pre-cooked Steaks" Tonight was a let down. I've heard so much about this place but I doubt I'll go back except for a beer. We ordered the tri-tip and asked for medium rare. What came out was well well done. My boyfriend complained and the waitress said it was the reddest they could go because, "The steak was pre-cooked and they just warm it up." Needless to say we were shocked and sent the food back. The waitress who was a sweetheart came back with another tri tip which was still the texture of combat boots. Basically any red meat that is "precooked" to death shouldn't be presented for human consumption. Not going back.

Great basin is sort of a Reno staple - from their beer to their lively happy hours, this is definitely a bar to be seen at. The crowd is fun - mostly a mix of young professionals and families out to dinner. The food here leaves something to be desired, but I suppose after a few rounds of beers, it's nice to have something to eat. I have tried many things here - salads, pizza, burgers, fish and chips - but nothing is overwhelmingly delicious, but more so just food. One insiders tip - their Icky Bread is AMAZING! Make sure to take home a loaf at the end of the night :)

March 23, 2012 Friday - dinner 9 PM 2 adults Atmosphere - 5 stars Food - 5 stars Service - 5 stars Background - Been to the original location many times but this was the first time here. Atmosphere - You can not tell this was an On The Boarder. They did a great job transforming this place. Love the atmosphere. Food Appetizer - none order. Main Course - The Munich style Philly. This is not a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich you would find in the city of brotherly love. The bread is house made with Icky beer, which of course is the beer I always order, it was lightly toasted. It is served open faced and it needed to be with everything that was on top of the bread. Dessert - We split a Bahama Mama Bread Pudding. I asked and this is made with their Icky beer again. It was warm heavenly bread. They say the sauce is buttery coconut pineapple rum sauce but I could not taste any coconut which was fine with me. Service - We received excellent service right from the start as we were greeted immediately when we walked through the door. I was waitress was helpful and gave us some free samples of beers to help my fiancÃ© to decide what beer she wanted to order. Future - Gotta love a great beer place with great food so I will be back.

Rudest service I've experienced in some time. Walked in and sat at bar six minutes ago. Bartender asked me what I wanted and when my first choice (Oktoberfest) wasn't available I started to ask for an opinion by saying "I'm split between your..." I never finished. The bartender cut me off and asked another customer for what he wanted. When the second patron dithered, he curtly stated "you guys find me when you decide" and disappeared. I've decided never to return. How about them apples?

I am giving a 3 based on the service. The Chilebeso, Icky IPA, and Wheeler Peak Wheat beers were all delicious and highly flavorful! Would definitely return for the beer...what wasn't great was our service in the restaurant. I opted to create my own burger, however I'm a vegetarian. They had a veggie burger option and said it would be no problem to substitute. I ordered, specifically asking for a veggie burger. The waitress confirmed this with us and that I wanted a veggie burger with no meat. My burger came out, while the toppings were correct, it was a beef burger (no biggie, this happens all the time to me), so I sent it back to be made with a veggie burger. The burger comes out the second time, no burger of any kind just a pile of jalapeÃ±o and mushrooms...what?!?! So I send it back again, the waitress played "dumb" saying she didn't understand, but confirmed I wanted a Black Bean Vegetarian Burger, not a beef burger at the time of order. Despite that, the garlic fries were dynamite awesome! And the veggie burger, when I finally got it, was delicious. Would've given higher rating if it wasn't for our service.

I was visiting some friends in Tahoe and they decided to take me to happy hour at the Great Basin Brewing Company. We made it just in time for their $1 pizza slice and a discounted beer. We sat at the little bar in front of the pizza making station. The nice guy making pizzas was fresh out, being that it was close to the end of H.H., so he made a fresh pizza and cut it into thirds. Our $1 slices were 1/3 of a pizza! A $3 pizza?!? Yes please!! The beer was tasty and pizza was good. The service was great and the atmosphere was very chill. A fun place to hang out, have a slice and throw back a few cold ones.

On a recent trip to Reno in the middle of a cold spell we decided to warm up with some micro brew while the temperatures outside were about 0 F....brrrrrr. Just walking from the parking lot to the entrance made my extremities freeze big time. Great Basin is actually a pretty nice place with full menu and a whole variety of they own brews on tap. It is located right next to huge Barnes and Nobles and some other generic restaurant that I can't recall (Macaroni Grill?) .We waited about 15 minutes for a table for 4 on a Saturday so it wasn't super busy. The service was spot-on, despite some complaints here on Yelp. As for food, we had some typical pub fare such as patty melt and garlic fries, shepherd's pie, and also teriyaki chicken. The burger and fries were really good, the rest was only Okay. However, this being a brewery I came here for the beer and Great Basin totally delivered in that aspect. You can build your own flight with 6 4oz samplers each at $1.50. Did 2 of those and tried mostly everything I wanted from the chalkboard . While most of the beers malty in opposite to the hoppy beers I enjoy at home, I liked more then a few-maybe because of the cold outside. Few of them were mediocre and few just not my style. However, I do appreciate that Great Basin lets you do this as some breweries either overcharge or don't do flights. So all in all the mission was fulfilled, we left with our stomachs full and ready for the cold. Next time in Reno I don't mind repeating this...

Been here quite a few times. Started off great but every time now seems a bit worse. Today we had a large party of 10 and it took quite a while to get our apps out and it was only 2 garlic fries and 1 onion ring. For the rest of the food it took about an hour, I kinda understand it takes longer for a big party but it was really slow tonight. Now that is not the waitresses fault but I asked her at the beginning of it wouldn't be too much trouble for my girlfriend and I to have a superstar check, only 1 split. Said not an issue but when we get it, it wasn't split. She splits it but doesn't put the right items on it, and she over charged for 1 app instead of putting it as a special and she ordered an adults fish and chips for one of the kids instead of the kids portion. We didn't want to complain since it took forever for our food. Really slow service. Brought up the app miss charge but didn't want to wait for a manager to be hunted down as they had their own tables. Hell service wasn't even worth the auto gratuity put on. I used to really enjoy this place but no more. I'll try the sparks location but I may just write this company off, which is a damn shame.

Beer is great. Cobb salad is excellent. Flaca bowl is hit-or-miss. The add-on chicken is... not so great. Tastes like it was frozen, not fresh. The pizza, on the other hand, is fantastic. Best in Reno.

This place is always busy. I ate here for dinner with my son for the first time on a Tuesday at 5 pm. My son had the fish and chips and I had the brat special and breaded and fried asparagus as an appetizer along with an Ale. My son thought the fish and chips were acceptable - nothing to rave about. The brat was good but I really liked the fried asparagus. I did not finish my beer. Service and prices were adequate. I'd return, but won't be in a rush to do so.

Tightwad Tuesdays! Which is awesome because they have a great selection of delicious beers. This was one of the first restaurants I came to when I moved to Reno, some very good friends brought me and I have been in love ever since. The beer cheese soup is addictive, the willy dillys are delicious and don't have too much batter, the mac n cheese pizza with bacon is heavenly and the sweet potato fries with Chipotle mayo is a nice change from regular fries to go with their awesome burgers. I've had their salads a couple times and the greens were fresh and add ons were a great way to spice up regular old salad. The wait staff is usually very nice, not the fastest to get your beer out but not bad, of course it's worse when they're packed but expected because the beer is so good!

OUCH. The service here needs help. It takes 10 minutes to be acknowledged for beverages, and when I get ridiculed for ordering a Smith and Wesson because it's "too out-of-the-ordinary", I almost go sassy-black-woman-mode on the server I'm sorry, if you think mixing Kahlua, creme, Pepsi, and vodka is too difficult for your bartender, I'll gladly find another. Then I order a burger with sauteed mushrooms...they give me sauteed onions. YOU FAIL, SERVERS OF GREAT BASIN. Because one of your representatives fails at life at her forte of a job, I'm pegging all of you for it. Why? I would've eaten the burger as-is, but she downright says "Nope, you ordered it with onions." Funny, I never eat burgers with onions, what makes you think I just randomly changed my mind? The correct answer is, I apologize, we'll just whip up some sauteed mushrooms on a side plate and you can add it. Is that so hard? The only reason this place gets two stars was the fact that the burger was actually pretty good. Sadly, that doesn't excuse craptastic service.

Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice Shame on me. Food is Ok, not amazing --but reasonable, and that is why they get one star, oh wait there is no zero stars. I digress.... Service sucks. PERIOD. if you want to get the bartenders attention bring an air horn or a distress flare, In Reno a few times a year, in three visits here, GBB let us down twice, the third time was just ok. This last Monday night 6-7pmish, five people at the bar, we sit down and wait at least five min to even be acknowledged by the bartender who was too busy talking to his buddy, and when he did finally start to work with us... I asked for a menu, and he gave us ONE... so we had to share a menu, ----Ok wife and I have different vision, so we couldn't even read the menu at the same time---, then we did order and asked about their Bacon beer, while the bartender started to complain about how awful it was and he can't wait to get the keg off the system. great sales tactic,,,, (any hint on how this guy keeps his job?) but the home run of home runs, two guys come in sit down eventually get a beer, and one of the guys asked Customer, "Can we get food here?" Bartender: "Sure you can,,,," Customer " You see I wouldn't know this--- because I DIDN'T GET A MENU!!!" at least the service is bad across the board with all customers. We have not had the same poor service at their Sparks location, But will give that a go in the next few days, maybe they can redeem themselves... maybe...

On a recent weekend in Reno, NV, we were looking for a place to try some local brews and get some pie - and - based on a solid recommendation from cousin Becca - The Great Basin Brewing Company did not disappoint. Great microbrews in a open and airy facility and pizza was fantastic. Service was good, and kept the water (and beer) glasses filled! For the sports fans, there are multiple flatties to allow you to keep up with your games.

Amazing burger! I always do the build-your-own with smoked gouda, jalapenos, and bacon... SO good. Beer is pretty good too and just found out on Tuesdays they offer half price pints all day. Yes I'll have another, please and thank you! They're also super accommodating with my kids, and with four boys that's not always easy. My wife loves the jalapeno dressing that comes on one of the chicken salads and they sub out the chicken for shrimp for just $1. The kids usually get fish and chips and an order of chicken strips, all done in house with their own beer batter. Delish!

We went to Great Basin Brewing Co several times during our stay in Reno (Oct - Dec 2012) Each time we went we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We always sat at the bar and the service was great, no matter how busy the place was. We ordered everything from appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas and entres and each was very good. The wait for the pizza was a bit long (over 20 mins) but understandable as they toss each to order and cook in a wood-fired oven. The wait was worth it. Also, if you're getting fries, try the sweet potato fries with smoky chipotle aioli sauce. Heaven!! I'm usually a domestic light beer kinda girl but decided to step and try the house brews. I'm glad I did! I fell in love with the Harvest Ale & Katie's Cream Ale. I liked it so much I purchased one of their aluminum growlers and took a filled one home! Looking forward to stopping in there again if we've ever back in Reno!

Decent beers but if you come in when they're somewhat busy don't expect fast or even very friendly service. One of the customers next to me asked if they had any of the lunch special pizzas left and was rudely told by the bartender, "is it after 2"? I know many places who keep serving specials until they run out but the attitude was very unprofessional. The same bartender walked away from people in the middle of orders, questions, etc. We thought about leaving because it took so long to have our order taken. May have been having a bad day but I will stick with the Sparks store.

We were pleasantly surprised by the food and service at Great Basin. We'd been to the Victorian Avenue location in Sparks, but not this one. The beer is tasty, but they were out of the Bitchin' Berry that I have just discovered. Our server was very nice and recommended a Belgian beer with black cherry notes that hit the spot. I had the tri-tip chimichurri sandwich with onions and garlic fries. The bread is homemade, and really a great base for this flavorful sandwich. I wish the garlic fries had been more garlicky, but I love my garlic. My husband had a macaroni and cheese pizza, pretty much my worst nightmare, but he enjoyed it. Service was top notch here, very friendly and prompt.

Stopped in here for lunch while shopping in Reno. What a disappointment! We ordered the tri-tip sandwich. It looked like the consistany of ground beef only pale in color and leathery. It was cold, not even the slightest bit warm. It occured to me that is is pre-cooked, processed meat that did not resemble anything that looks like tri-tip, nor did it taste like it. Seriously?? I would not recommend this place, ever. It's a brewery, you should atleast have a decent sandwich.

Solid burgers, above average beer, and a huge menu of food/alcohol means I will likely be visiting this place every time I come back to Reno. Unfortunately the service here was lacking but then again what do you expect when you are in a college town and the kids all look like they would rather be drinking as opposed to working. The "greeter" was so creepy I honestly felt like he was trying to get a 3some going with my date and I. I sadly had to decline. The BBQ Bacon Burger was tasty though. Hold the creepy service next time though!

I ate here with a friend on a whim and although I am not really a beer girl, a quick glance at the menu and it fit the bill for what we wanted at the time. The service at the bar was attentive and the place was busy for early dinner on a Sunday. My veggie burger was OK, but my main gripe was the totally unripe tomato they put on it. The sweet potato fries were OK too, but I think they put brown sugar on them, yuck, why? I don't think it said that on the menu. My friend reporter her fish tacos to be meh as well. The saving grace was actually the beer. We both had the Bitchen Berry and it was awesome! Did I mention, I don't like beer. So brew pub, do what you do best, but avoid eating if you are looking for anything special.

Customer service is usually really good but the only two things I have ever liked from this joint is The Icky and the jalpeno wontons. The fish and chips were awful. The chicken strips were not even edible. The first time I tried the Black and Bleu burger, it was wonderful. The second time I tried it, I could have got a better burger from Carl's Jr.

I do like this place although I find their menu limited. I enjoy their Shepherds Pie. The problem is that my 81 year old father has a health/heart condition that means he is a vegan who cannot eat any fat, oil, avocados, or nuts. So he can only eat the bean burger. Since March, 2014, he has been served hamburger, not the bean burger as ordered, 3 times. I will say the three different servers, at least 2 of the 3 times, misheard his order (odd since he orders it and the bun grilled dry, without oil, butter, avocado, or cheese). Strike one. He would order his fries cooked in the pizza oven so that they were not deep-fried. He didn't understand that they were still frozen and covered with oil, but that trace amount did not physically harm him. The restaurant first informed him that the fries did have fat and then, after months of serving him and other customers, they put a stop to any fries that were not fried. Any other side, which merely means a dry salad for my dad, costs him an additional $1. Strike two. They no longer have porter as part of their normal offerings. Which brings us to today: only six beers on tap; the pizza and slice today was cold, cold, cold (and kinda nasty); and, while we had a large party (13 people), it took 75 minutes to get our food. Strike three. In fairness, the manger tried to make it right. He offered to get my dad something else, but the last time this happened his meal was served well after the three other diners at the table had finished. I like the staff. I generally like the beer. But I live in Reno and there are many, many more options for beer and food. So, if you read my whole review: pretty good food, good beer, and a pretty nice wait staff. BUT there is a danger in that you may wait a long time for your food, the order may not be accurate, limited beer offerings for people who enjoy variety, and the only consideration by management was to remove from the bill the meal that was incorrectly delivered and four beers (out of 10 delivered to a party of 13).

Maybe four stars is a bit much? Maybe it isn't. But i'm rating them based on the fact that they're a brew-pub, not fine dining. So as far as brew-pubs go? I'm impressed. Being female and therefore genetically predisposed to extreme pickiness in the aesthetics department, I much prefer this location over the one on Victorian Ave. This building has had a facelift since its mediocre Mexican establishment days (thank gawd) and I like what I see. It doesn't feel as fuckin' crammed as the one in Sparks. Which I hate ("Oh shit, that's YOUR beer? Sorry. Oh crap, I just kissed YOUR boyfriend? Jesus christ. Can I get some space? I'd really like to NOT be nose-deep in your armpit, thanks.") It's a bustlin' spot, for sure, but there's at least some room to breathe. I've been here twice. The first time was a dud, but I didn't Yelp them on account of the fact that they were fresh outta the womb. My second experience was thankfully MUCH better. I had fish tacos (always a gamble in Nevada...no pun intended), but I gotta say...they. were. tasty. To top off a lovely evening, the manager off-duty (not on-duty. off. He's a dedicated chap, apparently) came up and offered my date and I a free sampler of all of their beers. Free. Cause we're "cool people" (verbatim). The bribery worked. I've been back quite a few times and have recommended the place on numerous occasions. I have my pride. But I wont say no to free beer. Hello, my name is patron.

Their pizza is the way to go. I'm not a beer drinker but the people I've been here with are and they love trying all the different brews. They make their own pizza crust and it's pretty good. I love the honey beer dipping sauce they give you with your pizza. I did the make your own and loaded it with vegetables. A 15" comes with 8 slices... definitely enough for 2 people to share.

only 3rd time here.. i usually go to their sparks location.. anyway, lookin for some time to kill, my fatherinlaw wanted some good beer while waiting for the rest of the family.. i wanted to try their bourbon barrel but they were out.. so when i asked for a tasting flight, the tender asked, "Would you like to try all 20?" about an hour and a half or so latr, we got through all 4oz pours for a dollar each... 80oz of brew at this level for 20 bucks tho? we still had an order of garlic fries and wings but total bill still felt like a steal... now i could do without all the porters and their smoke jumpers.. of the porters and stouts, i liked mollies the best.. highlights for me were the rye saison, deathwish, franktown brown, and the irish red.. of these, it looks like a growler of deathwish is in my near future...

Horrible service! Once seated we waited fifteen minutes for the waitress to come take our drink order, then twenty for the drinks to be delivered! Had to ask for water 3 times. Ordered coffee and they said they had to make a fresh pot, that would have been fine if they had remembered to bring it. Waitress forgot until she was clearing dinner dishes! We were seated for a full hour before our order was taken. If the food had been spectacular the awful service may have been somewhat forgivable, but it wasn't. Average food, nothing to write home about. Kids burger was so over cooked it was inedible. Beers were good as were the jalepeno wantons but that was it.

First off let me inform you. I am not a regular at the Sparks location, been there once or maybe twice a long while ago. Just not really on my radar. So with that in mind let me give you my spin on the new place in the south. FOOD. THE fish was excellent! I am so glad to have places that serve a good breaded fish. The wife loved it and I did too. Garlic Fries. Um...maybe I am just ignorant, but I did not like this batch of fries. I've had the Garlic Fries at the Ballpark in San Francisco. Those were just great. These we just barely edible. The garlic seemed to be baked into oblivion. But hey, maybe that is the way they are supposed to be and I just don't get it. If so, and you are reading this, let me know. Low carb option? Yes! It's not listed as such, but it was there. The Sausage Sampler from the Appetizer menu. I would go for the lame "sausage fest" joke here but really I have a bigger bone to pick. When you have a sampler.....don't bring the sampler with less variety than what the menu says....UNLESS the customer gives the OK. Not cool coming out with three of four and acting like it's no big deal. Sure you substituted for something else, but let me know so I can make that my decision. The ones that came were worth eating. When I am needing to keep the carbs to a minimum this will be a "go to meal". Here is hoping that the next time I "go to" it, they will have all four types for me to sample. Chicken strips were yum too. Not too much breading! Total plus! Service -- You would think this was the first Great Basin to be opened here. Maybe I am missing something but really they should be up to speed now. And honestly should never have been "not" up to speed anytime after a week of being open. Sure get used to the building but you really gotta do it right. Let's improve the service a little. Like the atmosphere. You wouldn't be able to tell that this was built originally as a Chain Mexican place. Looking forward to half price wings on Mondays. Would I go back? Yes, for the fish. Would I recommend to friends? Maybe, if they liked beer or fish.

I had been wanting to try this place out for some time. The food was ok. The salads were great. The shepherd's pie was a chintzy portion of lamb stew with mashed potatoes on top. Unfortunately nobody in Northern NV seems to get this right. While a crust may be optional, you're supposed to bake it with the mash on top brushed with milk or cream. Slopping a scoop of mash on top of lamb stew does not make it shepherd's pie. The bread was pretty good, I'll have to try it again and order something else.

After a long wait - the Great Basin Brewing Company has finally opened their Reno location. Some friends and I went on opening day for lunch - there wasn't much notification they were open, I was in the Sparks location and overheard the opening date. I had a pizza and the cucumber salad. The pizza has a doughy crust - so if you are into the thin crust pizza's this might not be the pizza for you. I got the all meat pizza - it was really good. I'm not a fan of sausage and just figured I would take it off once the pizza arrived. Well come to find out the sausage is thinly sliced right from a sausage link so it was not over baring flavor. As always the cucumber salad was great! Since it was lunch time and had to go back to work after wards - we could not enjoy a beer. I ordered iced tea. Once the tea got to the table all the ice was melted. I guess the server doesn't understand/know that iced tea requires ice! Asked for a glass of ice and noticed I wasn't the only one in the place who needed more ice. Also rather than putting the different sugars on the table the server just gave me the sugar I requested. I'll chalk this stuff up to being a new server. I drove by today and I take it the word is getting out about the new location - it was much busier than when we went on Monday. Def going back!

I generally like this place. There flagship beer, the icky is on par with Sierra Nevada's Pale Ale. I don't typically eat here but just spend some time at the bar trying a few suds and getting the growler filled. I did happen to eat here last night and one thing was a bit off putting. Some waitstaff were sitting out front rolling their end of shift silverwear. One girl was eating something like a plate of sausages with her hands in between using those same hands to handle future customers napkins and dinnerwear. She was nice enough to occasionaly wipe her hands on her pants first. I don't exactly blame her for this gross behavior that a normal human should know better about, but this is, in my opinion, a managment issue. It won't keep me from returning, the bartenders are usually friendly and helpful and I am a fan of most the beers that they carry (though refilling the growlers is a bit pricey). I will just think twice about eating here again in the future.

Have dined here multiple times and the food/service is generally good. However, on 1/22/2013 our experience was lackluster. Um, how do you screw up a medium-rare hamburger and fries? Simple. The Black & Bleu was definately black & blue! It was overcooked with no cajun seasoning and a BOATLOAD of cheese and the bun was dry. Trying to disguise the burn perhaps? The garlic fries were drowning in torched garlic. Our waiter was clueless, slow and unattentive. Tom Young, you're better than this. Lose the food servers with bad attitudes & hire people who have a pulse and commitment to quality.

This is a nice, clean restaurant. The service is good and the drinks are delightful. Of course, Great Basin brews can impress so if you're in the mood for a beer and some quality bar food, check it out. They even have a few vegetarian options, too! This place is an oasis amongst the asphalt-laden region of department stores and busy roads.

Tried something different almost every time and it is always soooo good. We really enjoy the fried zucchine and the Lorenzo's pizza with jolapeno cheese stuffed crust. Oh and the jolepeno beso beer goes so well with it. Also love the bitchin' berry beer. Like I said, tried lots of things here and we are never disappointed.

Ridiculous ! First of all we walk in the door and the greeter looks like her cat just died, second took forever to get asked what we wanted to drink, third it took forever to get said drink, fourth the food was below standards four out of five meals had no flavor and were so over done and chewy it just wasnt good, and for the sixth we had to flag another waitress down to get refills and napkins. We LOVE the beer here. Almost every one we try, never had a bad one yet. I can't wait for Memorial Day weekend when the chili beso will be ready...it's the best! Buy it in a growler and save $! Buying the growlers also gives me reason to stop by and refill often! The food is standard bar fare, not bad for fish-n-chips, the garlic fries are yummy (but be prepared with gum:-) and the fried pickles are fun. BEST place for local beer! Cheers!!

We have always loved Great Basin over in Sparks and have visited for years, but I have to say, I love this new location much better. It's got a great vibe, busy and bustling and fun. The beer is, of course, fantastic, and the menu, which seems nicely expanded from the Sparks location, is just wonderful. I would love to give this place five stars, but I have been to this location several times and I have to say I agree with some of the complaints about customer service. It's not always on. So minus one single star for that. When the service is good, it's very very good, but when it's bad, well, it's meh. We always sit at the bar if we can, or in the bar area, because the bartenders are ALWAYS awesome and attentive; the same cannot be said of the waitresses. We don't ever get a table because it's a very busy place and generally, once one is seated, one tends to be forgotten. So that's why we sit in / near the bar. Who cares about a waitress forgetting you when the bar is right there? It's easy to just lean over and order another one. And you will want to order another one. That's why you're there, anyway, isn't it? To drink pint after pint of GBBCs life-changing beer. Since I'm years behind in reviewing GBBC let me just give you a quick rundown of the things I enjoy. First, the beer. Any of the beer. All of the beer. It's all great. Our most favorite of what is a truly awe inspiring selection has to be The Chili Beso, The Lemon Wheat, The Jackpot Porter, The Old Fitz Stout, the Wheeler Peak Wheat, the Ichthyosaur Pale Ale, the Wild Horse Ale and, oh, heck, whatever else they are pouring that day. But our two absolute most drop dead favorites are the Rosemary Rye Patch and the Harvest Ale. It was because of the Harvest Ale we were last at GB, as you can see from the photos I uploaded. We were there to help shell pinenuts for the Harvest Ale - for every glass you filled with shelled nuts, you got a free beer. Now, if you've ever shelled a pine nut, you know how difficult it is. But let me tell you, it was worth every bit of that hour's worth of work to get a free beer. And we have been back to taste the resultant batch, and ahhh! Heaven! It tickles me a lovely amber hue to know we "helped make" that great beer, even if it was only in a teeny tiny fashion. On to the food. Just try anything. It's all great. The stand out appetizer for us is the Jalapeno Won Tons. But be warned: they are amazingly addictive. I also have a weakness for their Willy Dillys; beer battered and fried dill pickle spears, they are outstanding with any of the beer. Other menu standouts: The Sausage Platter, the Shepherds Pie, the Fish & Chips, the Bruben, the Black & Blue Burger, the Garden Burger, The Shroom Burger, and the Pizza (any pizza). Try the pizza with macaroni & cheese and bacon. (See photos) Trust me on this one. I know it sounds crazy but you'll bite into it and you'll think you hear angels weeping, it's so good, but that will just be you and your companions, sobbing with sheer delight at your great fortune to be enjoying such soul-satisfying beer and food on a Friday night. Another thing I love about Great Basin: they've got terrific community spirit. (Thus, the pinenut shelling event!) They support all local Reno events and groups and give generously back to the community that loves them. Even though I have never been a Reno local, going into either Great Basin location always makes me feel like I am. I sit there with a beer in one hand, a pickle spear in the other, and sigh happily, thinking, "Man, it sure is great to be home."

Great salads. You could just go with the salad and have nothing else. They didn't shovel a bunch of other stuff onto it so it was not a delivery system for bacon and turkey. You could actually appreciate the greens. Also hit a fish appetizer. Nice beer, obviously. It was crowded but they served and sat us quickly. Only thing amiss was trying to find the place off of S. Virginia. We kept thinking we saw it but did a lot of U-turns and round-abouts, sort of of like European Vacation. "There's Big Ben and there's Parliament!"

Good: Food. Beer. Cocktails. Bad: Service Booths Service (not a typo). Fortunately, for Great Basin, the good can override the bad enough to keep me coming back. That said, they seriously need to work on our waitress. We ordered the black and blue burger and the fish and chips along with garlic fries and shared it. We also ordered an Icky (my favorite local IPA) and a Black Rock Ice Tea. The burger was very good, cooked just right with plenty of blue cheese on top, the burger was moist and chewy but nicely cooked on the outside. The fish and chips have a nice light batter and the fish is literally cooked perfectly. The garlic fries are also quite tasty. The Black Rock Ice Tea was a good drink, stiff but not as potent as a long island. It's also a little too easy to drink so be careful how may of these you have to drink - they could really knock you on your a**. What was frustrating are the booths they have, they have got to me the most uncomfortable seats ever designed. They are basically just 2 pieces of wood at a 90 degree angle with some padding. They are awkward and hard to sit in for long periods of time. We will definitely just ask for a table next time. Lastly was our server, she was friendly but either a) didn't give a crap or b) completely forgetful. Multiple times we would ask for something and it didn't show up unless we asked again... and again. When I asked for a second beer it didn't show up - 10 minutes later she came by and said "You didn't get your beer???" She was the only one working our table, I'm not sure how she expected the beer to get to me. I actually just turned it down at that point and we got the check. I'd recommend Great Basin and I'll come back again (and give a better rating), I'll just know where to sit and who to avoid the next time.

This place is superlegit. I have had most of their beers and the only one I really can't stand is the sour belgian cherry. Icky is a great session beer, and they have several other winners on the menu. Chilebeso is the only chile beer I have tried that I would order again not just as a novelty. It is a flat out great beer. The food is what separates a great brewpub from just a place to grab a pint, and their food is very good. I took a chance and ordered the fish and chips and was not let down. I am rarely satisfied with fish and chips outside seafood restaurants, but theirs were an exception. My girlfriend got the mac and cheese pizza and it was surprisingly delicious. The wings were very good as well, and they have multiple sauce options. Reno is lucky to have a place like this. Great Basin could hold its own even in acclaimed beer cities like Seattle (my hometown).

I had been wanting to go to this place for over a year and finally made it, we had to wait 20 minutes for a table on a Friday night but, not a problem! The menu has so many amazing things I could come back every week for a long time and not get sick of it. For the first time I decided on the Munich cheesesteak and it was amazing!!! (Also very messy, I hope no one was looking at me) I also had the garlic fries with my sandwich and really they are just fries with garlic salt over them, nothing amazing although, still good. Most things on the menu are about $10 so very affordable and worth a try. If you like beer this is a wonderful place, many different drink options, I tried Nevada Gold and Wild Horse both are great! I will be returning =)

Since they opened their new location in South Reno, I've been going pretty regularly for lunch. I'm NEVER disappointed by the food! Always fresh and hearty. Today, I had the Green Chile Gobbler, which is a turkey sandwich in their Icky roll with melted cheese and...you guessed it...green chiles. It was soooo delicious. My husband had a cobb salad which even had shrimp in it! Most of the bread they serve is baked in-house using the spent grain from their brewing. They even have loaves of bread for sale at the entrance. It's the most soft, flavorful bread I've had in a long time! Any restaurant that hands me a non-styrofoam container for leftovers always scores bonus points with me!

I really hate to give this low of a rating, especially to a local area owned restaurant... I remembered the mixed reviews when the boy suggested we try it, I figured, I can always rely on the fish and chips... and I was starving. We decided on the full fish and chips platter ($11) and the sausage platter ($11) with the andoulie (spelling?) and "thirstingur" (?? started with a t) sausages, you get your choice of 2 from the 4. ). A friend got the shehards pie, as he had had it before ($12). We also wanted to try the cheese beer soup to start (Bowl is a little over $5). The cheese beer soup was good, but a bowl was too much for me, too potent maybe... the taste got old after a while for me... but I was sharing so it ended up being all eaten. The fish came out and I was surprised at the size and portions. It was probably 4 or 5 little fillets, which is fine I reasoned, b/c they batter them themselves. The first bite was actually good, I could taste the sweetness from the batter. The second and ever other bite afterwards, was like eating... air? Seriously NO flavor. The tartar sauce wasnt that great either. My fiance had to douse (spelling?) each bite of his with malt vinegar to add flavor. We were pretty dissappointed with this. I did think, I would rather have flavorless fish, than bad fish... so that is a plus. French fries or "chips" came with this, I got the garlic ones... I didnt taste any garlic... the most flavor on my plate come from the ranch that I dipped my fries in. The cucumber salad (a choice between that and a garden salad would be nicer) was also bland, I had our friend try it and he said it had no taste too... it was like water and cucumber. The sausages (which who knows which was which) were okay. One was really spicy, but juicy, the better of the two... and the other was really dry and not good. The mashed red potatoes were pretty good, and I ended up eating that all. I had a bite of the shepards pie, and realized why my friend stuck with that after we forced him to meet us here. I asked him if he had eaten here when he first got their and his answer implied he wasnt impressed before (b/c I asked if it wa good and there was a long pause) but since we chose it he would eat there... he had only eaten at the sparks location though. I just really dont want to risk coming back for such bland food. I didnt even finish my fish, I didnt see a reason why. I probably will try to try it again in the future, b/c its a local business and my fiance said that we didnt try the main attraction (the beer) yet. So who knows if it will be better on the next time. Also, the service was average. Coffee refills, one stop to check on us. Food was hot. I could tell she was busy, but we werent completely forgotton about, but we didnt really ask for much either.

Not sure about Reno, but judging on a countrywide basis, and I've been to dozens of brewery's all over the country, this place isn't all that great. I can only judge on my typical biased judging criteria, food and IPA. Food, fairly standard bar fare, and IPA's, although a good effort, not hoppy and floral, yet more malty and gimmicky ones with a jalapeÃ±o IPA that was strong in alcohol but weak flavor.

First of all, realize it's a brew pub. Then, realize it was the first in the Reno area. Now you can appreciate the history of the company. Simply put, these guys will serve you some decently tasty food and some damn fine beer with a friendly touch to the service. It's not a five star spot but it's really not designed to be either. This location added pizzas to the menu which are tasty. A nice big oven sits right in the rear of the dining room so you can watch them slinging the pies in and out. If you're not in the mood for pizza, give one of the sandwiches or burgers a try. They're all big, tasty and come with a pile of fries that are cooked and seasoned just right. I usually go for the garlic fries. Give em a shot and we can keep a local business around for us to enjoy!

Great place for a nice lunch with extraordinary beer. We've stopped by driving back to our hotel and that was a great choice. Remember: it's a brewery so you should expect typical bar food but you have some great choices. I don't like heavy burgers or sausages so I ordered tacos with grilled salmon - perfect match with my rosemary beer. Visit this place to try some outstanding beer. You will be served by very nice (always smiling) people:-)

The Cuban sandwich was a major disappointment. On the small side, with very, very dry meat. Hardly any mustard or cheese to offset the chewy dryness of the meat. Garlic fries were okay. Sampled some sausage, very tasty. Beer selection is great of course. Excellent service. I would go back and try something else, the menu is huge.

Came here on a recent stop in Reno. For a Brewing company, they have a fair share of their own beers. They only have 4-6 standard beers, but then they have a list of about 10 "seasonal" beers. If you don't want their beers, they also have a pretty impressive list of Belgian beers (about 10ish) It wasn't very busy when I went, but It was off-peak hours. However, the host gave us one menu less, and I felt I had to wait longer than necessary to see the menu (as in, they didn't bring the other one ASAP). Now, onto the food: -Garlic fries were really good. It wasn't overly oily at all, and the garlic had been fried ONTO the fries, vs added as an afterthought, which made all the difference. It didn't have a strong garlic taste thou. - Mac and Cheese Pizza: Delicious. I am not a fan of bacon thou, so I just shovolted it onto someone else's plate. The pizza crust was thin and the crust was on the dry and chewy side, but it was still pretty tasty. I do like how the crust wasn't oily at all. Pretty unique menu and good beer selection. Hey, if I'm ever in reno again, I'll stop here for sure!

They have some serious bugs to work out. Went yesterday, Firday. We had 5 adults and a child in our party. We waited about 30 minutes for a table, which we expected with a biggish party at noon on a Friday. When we got seated, we were given menus. The waiter was nice enough, but seemed very overwhelmed. We waited about 15 minutes for him to get our drink orders. My friend asked for the pear cider. OK, two ciders, the waiter asks. No, the pear cider. Oh, OK. 10 minutes later, we get our drinks, but no pear cider. My friend says, can I get my pear cider...oh, he says, I forgot the two ciders. No, a pear cider. Pear, pair? I guess that could be confusing. Anyway, about 20 minutes after we get our drinks, he hasn't come back to get our order. I had to flag him down...Oh, sorry guys, I forgot about you. At least he was honest. Anyway, we all got the fish and chips. The garlic fries were yummy. The fish was OK. I thought the breading was bland and it could have stood another minute or two in the fryer. It was pretty soggy. I might go back again after the bugs get worked out.

I always look forward to coming here! My boyfriend loves the beer, especially their Chilibeso. Their jalapeno wontons are awesome and the garlic fries are addictive. I usually get pizza and it's not the best ever but it's pretty decent. I am more of a wine drinker so I can't really say anything about the beers. Service is pretty mediocre, they always seem really busy, but it's a fun place to go with friends or on a casual date.

I haven't worked my way through ALL of the local beers yet - these guys must have a great time dreaming up names for the beers - being from Nevada, I guess I'll at least have to have an Icthyosaur India Pale Ale (an "Icky") or at least a Pogonip Pilsner. That'll just mean another trip to the beer recycling area (restrooms)! Each time I've been here the staff has been friendly and competent. They're busy, but they keep moving! The food was good, too. I loved the pizza and the Wisconsin cheese/beer/sausage soup was great.

Went to this restaurant/brewery for my birthday at the beginning of last month with a couple of friends who recommended we go to this place. At first, everything was lovely. The menu looked great, beer looked great, ordered our food, etc. we received our plates of food and the food I will give 3 stars. It was OK. Between the dry chicken and rubbery GMO bell peppers, it was OK. Then, it came time to pay. We had asked the waitress for split checks...she didn't even do that right. Then she ran both mine and my friend's credit cards for the bill. My friend's card was denied but mine was good. I receive automatic text alerts anytime my card is used so I know mine went through. The waitress came back saying she "accidentally cancelled" the charge on my card. I tried to argue a little saying no it wasn't but she insisted she charge the card again. So, my card was billed TWICE. The manager on site told me 2 business days I would be refunded. 2 biz days later...no refund. I called the restaurant, the night manager didn't know what to do so he told me to call the day manager. I called her the next morning and she said 4-10 biz days I would get my refund. Well...here it is 6 weeks or so later and still no refund. Very bad management and customer service. Will never go here ever again and do not recommend. If you do, PAY CASH AND DON'T ORDER CHICKEN!

For all my fellow Celiacs, this is NOT a fun experience. When I have any form of gluten, I break out in hives, not fun when I want to enjoy a meal. They have a gluten free pizza, but they prepared it all wrong, I started itching at the table! I know it's easier for those who can eat gluten products to simply not pay attention to it, but this is not the case for me or those with the same problem. The dining area was dirty with a previous diner's food still on the floor next to us and I saw some napkins and such still scattered on the floor. However, as bad as the cleanliness and the experience with my dish was, my boyfriend enjoyed his meal, a non-celiac one, and the beer he had was jalapeno-flavored excellence. My meal did taste good despite the fragments of gluten on my gluten-free pizza bread and my boyfriend enjoyed his fish tacos.

Enjoyed a pretty solid lunch. Just basic stuff; fish and chips, but it was well done and tasty. The fish consisted of about four or five small pieces of some kind of white fish, I didn't ask what kind. It was cooked perfectly. Fries were basic bar fries and solid. It also came with a surprising cucumber salad dressed in a vinagrette. It was enjoyable and a nice match to the fish. Service was very good and the prices were good, about $10 for what I had. If not spectaculy, it was well done and a good lunch.

Easily the best brewery in Nevada and I will put the Icky, Bitchen' Berry and the Chile Beso up against any beers in the world! The GM Paul is always treating customers with a smile and is a breath of fresh air. The menu is "bar food" but the dishes are well executed with complex flavors and there is something for everyone!

I'm writing this after having consumed the majority of the growler I got last night. :D (I may or may not have consumed the rest while writing this review) My boyfriend and I FINALLY got to go out on a "date" night sans children and I chose the newest Great Basin location (we needed to hit up the Apple Store and were in South Reno anyhow) because I really really wanted some Willy Dillys and garlic fries. There was no wait time despite the place being pretty busy for a Tuesday night. Our waitress was awesome and attentive without feeling like she was crawling up our asses every 10 seconds. She was though a master of coming by when you have food in your mouth. I think all places train people to come by and ask how everything is when you have your face full of food, but I digress. I had a Truckee River Red and enjoyed it (I've had it before, so I knew I liked it). My boyfriend had a Risky Biscuit Barley Wine, and he also enjoyed it. Our food was good, because really when you're in the mood for beer and fried food Great Basin is the only place to go in town. I might be biased though since I REALLY wanted those damn Willy Dillys. After our meal was done I was waffling over more beer, and the waitress brought me a sample of Bitchin' Berry. I loved it. I asked about some in a growler. She wasn't sure if they did growlers of Bitchin' Berry. She checked. They do. I got one, and called it my precious. I drank the whole damn thing tonight and it reminded me that I should write this review! :D

I went here last night with my boyfriend and his family. I had the ale battered fish and chips and he had the chicken parmesan. Both dishes were excellent! I wanted to give Great Basin five stars, but every time I've been here the servers have been exceptionally inattentive, and occasionally even rude. I have high hopes for this place and I really believe the establishment can be improved with more employee training.

I was really nervous about going to this place...I had read the reviews from others and expected the worst. Plus, we were walking into a brewery with 2 kids in tow! Cute drink list...so I started with a Dirty Shirley! That was a great start. And, the special app for the night was fried artichoke hearts. So far, so good. Our server was kinda slow, but the place was pretty busy, so I'll cut some slack for that. I had the Fish & Chips - they were good. Not amazing, but definitely flaky. The hubby had the Black and Blue Burger which was quite tasty - not overdone with blue cheese, either. The ceiling has some great artwork where they have customized some famous pieces...clever and entertaining. A ski movie was playing as well as a few basketball games. I'm glad we gave it a try. For not necessarily being a kid restaurant, they were great (had a kid menu and all). And, the food was good, the drinks were good, no complaints! Great neighborhood spot!

Local Nevada FTW. Yea, so my girl and i make it on over to Great Basin off of Virginia, this is after a full 5 course meal after PF Changs (DAAAMNGOOD), and the food STILL LOOKED GOOD! WTF?! Ok, the bar is the only part we went to, so i cant really give u an honest assessment of the food, but it looked SO GOOD, so there is that. The older guy at the bar, suggested a few beers for us, and when he was able to, let us sample them. Some, like the Belgian Beers, you could not sample, and i totally understand why, they come in bottles. He suggested we try the Cherry Beer (name forgotten) , and DAMN, i would have that for breakfast, im serious! Another beer we tried was the CuVee Van De Keizer Blauw (i have the bottle on my desktop now) and it was a beer worthy of being poured into the Holy Grail. Serious. Jesus himself would have ended up drinking a few more than Mary Magdalane would allow, and still would have been forgiven! Seriously, if you want a variety of Muy EXCELLENTE beers, go nowhere else. Im not saying their selection is the biggest in Nevada (that goes to the 100+ beer place near the University), but for the best, accept no substitutes. Yea, maybe there are some hipsters, but F them. Drink your pints here, and scowl at them if you must. I think they make the pizza here with crack. I cant stop thinking about it, and im bloated on Excellent Chinese food.

The location is convenient, the decor is typical of a local brewpub on the rise. Did you know they sell growler coozies? What a great addition to my collection. Thank you Great basin, thank you Icky. Chili Beso is amazing!!! We have always had great service here, it's pretty standard brewery food though. Most of the beers are good, tried the berry beer last time I was in and I found it different and refreshing. The garlic fries are probably our favorite menu item. I like their wraps, though nothing extraordinary. Husband loves the tuna melts and various burgers. Salads are great. The salmon tacos are awesome though! Both locations are on the loud side as they're both very open, however we do like the new location (S. Virginia) quite a bit better.

Beer: The beer is incredible. They're constantly brewing up new stuff, and regardless of your taste in beer, they'll have something that will appeal to you. I recommend that you visit often, because there will always be something new. Atmosphere Atmosphere is great. It's not quite the cozy vibe you get at the Sparks brewery, but it's still good. Well decorated with a friendly staff. I've talked to a few bartenders and servers there, and everyone legitimately likes their job. More than that, they are all proud of the brewery. Those sorts of happy employees can only make your experience better. Food: The food is great. The menu has a lot of winners (Shepard's pie, the burgers, the salads, and the pizza is really good.), and there's only been one dish that hasn't won me over (The Sonoran fish tacos). They're always have a "special of the day", so you're always given the option of something that isn't always on the menu.

Too pricey for a generic franchise restaurant. Food is adequate, but you feel like you bill is partially paying for the brewery's power bill. Their Kate's cream ale is pretty nice, as many of their other beers, but the food is pretty phoned in and pricey.

Great beer, great atmosphere! I love that this is a place to meet friends for happy hour or have a big family dinner. They've started making their own bread, which is really good. I like to get the nachos or a pizza and my boyfriend usually gets the beer-battered fish & chips, but I love that they have some healthier options like the hummus and veggie plate :)

Thank God for yelp. We were staying at the Grand Sierra Casino Hotel and didn't want to spend an arm and leg for crappy food, and wanted some really good beer as well. Saw GBBC while cruising back to the hotel and decided to stop after checking out the reviews. The food was great, the beer was even better, and the our server was great: Very patient, especially for a busy night, and for the fact that we had our kids with us. The fish and chips were extremely tasty and they give you a bunch. The Stouts are creamy and rich, and the macaroni and cheese, garlic fries, and cucumber salad are good as well. We left feeling more than satisfied, and compared to most brewery restaurants in California, this place was a deal. Every time we go back to Mt. Rose, we'll be giving the Great Basin a visit.

Average of 3 stars for GBBC made me very leery of coming here for our typically spendy football Sunday. They have all games. I had 2 bloody marys. Very good. I like my bloodies tart, tomato-y, and stiff. They use a mix, I'm not sure which one. I also had the bfast wrap sans pork sausage. Delicious. They make their own ranchero sauce and some chipotle cream sauce and cover the wrap. It is essentially a bfast burrito. Nicely done. The potatoes are good; garlicky and not mushy. The bartender, Dennis, was attentive and checked on us regularly. He was pretty engaging, too. He also made sure my order was correct before I inhaled a mouthful of pork! Awesome! Granted we came early for the 10am games, we were the only ones at the bar for a good hour, and we are always a bit preoccupied with football, but it was a pleasant experience! Our bill was pretty pricey, however. I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for good beer, drinks, and decent food. Nothing stand-out amazing, but a nice switch from our typical Sunday at bully's.

The prices scared me when I first walked in. I am not big on the franchise restaurants like the olive garden, and Macaroni grill, and chilies so I wanted to try a local grown restaurant. My wife looked at the bar b que bacon burger, and I noticed if you spend $2.50 more you get a double patty. The burgers are big (1/2 a pound) so I asked the waitress to split the double burger. The have samples of beers which are $1.50 each. We had four sample beers and the huge burger, the tab was under $20, the service was great I will go back.

The beers here are great! However my review is about the food. I ordered the Shepard's Pie and although they said it is their version of it. I was not expecting stew with mashed potatoes on top. As a stew it was pretty disappointing. Shepard's pie is usually made with ground meat, beef or lamb. Great basin said they use lamb and what I got was chunks of something that wasn't lamb. Tasted more like beef or could have been mutton. The sauce was flavorless and between the meat and sauce the dish was a bust. At our table we also ordered the garlic fries. What a rip off. A tiny portion with dried garlic sprinkled over the top. In summary, great beers. Food and service so-so.

I've been going to Great Basin in Sparks since it opened, and I've never had a beer there I didn't like. Most of the meals I've eaten there have likewise been delicious. So with that in mind, I was eager to try out their new location. On a Thurs night, at around 8p, the place was pretty busy. The bar was full, the front room was full, and a majority of the tables in the back room were also full. We were told the wait would be about 25 min, and we decided to tough it out, despite the fact we were starving. After 15 min or so, we got our table. Our sever, Nicole, was very friendly and attentive, and got our drink and appetizer orders in right away. Despite this, I didn't get my beer until I asked for it about 15 minutes after the rest of the drinks made it to the table. After that She made sure our drinks were not empty the rest of the night, and we had great service throughout. For our appetizers we had wings, and fried mushrooms. They mushrooms and the sauce that came with them were delicious. The wings were good too, but we had to order them plain and get hot sauce and bbq sauce, because the kitchen wouldn't give us a 1/2 order of each. I also had the Yucatan Lime Chicken Soup and it was yummy. Our mains were a Caesar Salad, a Brewery Harvest Salad, and a Mustang Ranch Pizza. The Caesar Salad was good, as was the Brewery Harvest Salad, after the one we were mistakenly brought was quickly replaced. The pizza was good. The dough was a bit thick & chewy, but I like it that way, and it was topped with tri-tip, onions, mushrooms, and cheese, and had a white garlic sauce. If your server offers to bring you "Sticky-Icky Sauce", GET IT. It's honey & Icky Pale Ale, and is great for dipping your crust and bread in. Normally I have great experience at Great Basin... the "manager on duty", Sarah, was the rudest "manager" I've ever had to deal with. When you call to confirm that they will be open and serving food until a specific time, and then show up, an hour before that time, and get treated so disrespectfully as we did.... I doubt I'll be back. Next time, I'll go out of my way to go to the one in Sparks.

We stopped here after a few days of hiking in the Tahoe Rim Trail. I had the chicken mushroom sandwich with good ol' garlic fries. It was definitely a great meal after a hike. The beer was decent, nothing refreshingly new but very similar to other local brews.

Great Basin has the best beer in town by far. The food at the old location was always just ok but the beer kept me coming back. I have been going to the new location since it opened and I am much more impressed with the food. The Pizzas are great and I love their Brunch. I miss the ambiance of the Sparks location and every now and then it can be tough to get a seat at the bar but all in all, I love this place. Chilli Beso Para Vida!!

Was here might not go back..... Ever. We sat and did not even get a greeting by a server. Decided to wait 15 min. To see if it would go that long...,. It did. Talk to manager got "let me buy you a beer and see if I can get someone to wait on you. The new location on S. Virginia is one hot hot spot. Full of life and laughter. Local brewery's are great you get to laugh at the beer names they come up with and sample all the beer. I have deep fried pickles and they were weird but really good. Some Southern thing, deep fried anything. They service was fast and friendly. The place fills up fast so get in and get a table. Nothing wrong with this great local brew spot!

Driving around on a Monday night looking for a place to eat, we decided on this place, something new for us, something other then the ordinary chain restaurants. Big mistake. We were seated quickly and with a friendly hostess. We skimmed the menu and found what we wanted. And then it was downhill from there. Waited for our waitress to finally come take our drink orders and then another wait for her to take our meal orders. Then a looooonnnnng wait for our meal. My husband and I were in a conversation when I realized we had been sitting there for almost 30 minutes for our food. I ordered their chicken wings and a small cup of soup. And my husband ordered a sausage sand-which. Finally a manger came to our table and told us that our waitress had forgot to put in our order! He apologized and said that it will be right up. Waited another 10-15 mins and finally got our food. besides the wait, the food was OK, my chicken wings and soup were fine, nothing spectacular, and my husband liked his sand-which, just that his garlic fries were kind of dry. But the real problem was our waitress never once said she was sorry or even acted like she was sorry. She barely came to our table to refill drinks, which was water and ice tea. And only asked once if we were OK and needed anything. She was more then helpful to tables around us, but didn't seem to care to help us. She was young and just seemed more occupied in chatting with other waitress's at the front by the register. Needless to say, we will not return. Nothing was really that great about that place. Like one reviewer said, its a shame because its local place. Need to really beef up the costumer service if they intended on surviving.

I decided to try this place out on a recent Whole Foods excursion to Reno. The restaurant itself has a casual and fun vibe, the menu is kind of fun and pretty large. I had the Belgian Black Cherry Beer which was dark and though I'm generally not a dark beer kind of girl - this was really good (and had something like a 7.1% alcohol content). I also ordered an order of the garlic fries, good but nothing really special. For lunch it was their version of a Reuben. Being from NY it may have been a mistake to order one here with really high expectations that were pretty unlikely to be met. That said, the pastrami was great , and the bread may have been good (since they make it in house) if it weren't soggy (gross), the sandwich came with the cucumber salad which was really simple, cucumber, carrots, red onion, and some vinegar but it was the best part of my meal. My husband on the other hand had a sausage sandwich that was great, homemade sausage done right and a homemade roll that was perfect. If we come back I definitely want to try one of the pizzas. We had some issues with the service, the employees all gathered around the front "greeting" area which may not have been so annoying had they not been so visible and loud...or audibly sighing every time a new party was seated. The employee who I assume was the manager didn't seem to mind that no one was really working. Also, I don't want to see the hostess rubbing one of the waiter's backs while I'm eating, it wasn't appetizing. The food was ok, the beer was good, but the service could use some improvement, if we go back it may be a while.

We came in here, because it was newer to the area of town. We first waited about 45min for a table. Once we got the table, we had to wait 20min for the server to arrive. We ordered, and our drinks went empty. No refills unless we asked. The salad was terrible, it had wilted slimy leaves of lettuce in it, and barely any dressings and fixin's. The rest of the food was just not that good, it seemed like they turned it into a chain style restaurant instead of the kind of restaurant that is in Sparks!

Best microbrewery + restaurant I've been to in a long time. First the beers: I've been in a "non-bitter" beer drinking mood for the past couple of years, so I started off with Nevada Gold (blond ale type thing) and then a Chilbeso, which is another very light ale with jalapeno peppers added at some point during the brewing process. Very surpising and delicious, but not overpowering. Upon hearing that I was on a non hoppy beers kick, the kindly bartender poured me samples of their IPA and their Icky, which is a fresh hopped ale of some sort. Both were delightfully balanced and easy to drink, but definitely had hops. There were many more beers that I didn't try, but from what I had, I'd basically sample anything they make! Then the food: I had I BBQ bacon cheeseburger and garlic fries. Nothing fancy but really good! BIG, quality burger patty, lots of really nice, thick cut peppery bacon and a good BBQ sauce. It appears to me that they make their own fries too. I didn't ask, but there's no way they came out of a freezer bag - perfectly seasoned and with a nice texture. Simple pub fare, but done really well! Finally, the service. The bartender and the manager were both very friendly, knowledgeable about the beers, and more then happy to give us free little taster portions of the brews. I wish this place was in Truckee, I'd be there a lot! Anyway, I'm definitely up for a repeat anytime. Winner!

The beer is great, the food and service (not so much). Greeted by a hostess after a few mins waiting and had to wait for her to check out a tab, she sat us right next to the bar, (we had a 12 yr old girl with us I felt it was inappropriate and too loud to hear my daughters conversation), I asked the hostess for a seat that would be quieter and she snipped, "there is no quiet place". Our waiter took awhile to introduce himself but was a good server. My husband had the fish and chips and said, Nothing to shake a stick at?! The steamed clams appetizer had a bizarre aftertaste, my daughter's pizza was okay but the honey was watery, and my sausage platter was overcooked and bland.

I have been to both of the locations for this restaurant on more than four occasions. Other than atmosphere they are exactly the same in beer, food and service. I'll start with what they do well. If you like fish and chips then this place can serve those up relatively quickly and of decent quality. Their beers are meh. Yes, they have an ok selection, but so do most pubs. There is nothing special about this one. The other food (especially anything they say it is a "specialty") is terrible. I'm not exaggerating when I say that, it truly is bad. I had a shepard's pie that was literally a bowl of brown gravy with some frozen vegetables and nasty left-over mashed potatoes on top. Steak that was way overcooked and charred with some kind of bland seasoning. The french fries are standard frozen, pre-packaged style so they're all right if you like that kind of thing. And I'm pretty sure that most everything is micro-waved at some point. Seriously, just order the fish and chips. The service is slow, so expect to be there for over an hour waiting on your order. If your drink gets refilled then consider yourself lucky. If you want to go to a pub then consider Oski's on Victorian square or Silver State. This place is like a bad Applebee's/brew house. Don't bother.

I would have to say 4.5 stars!! We went for my birthday last week (party of 5+1 child). I was told over the phone that they don't do reservations so we showed up, fingers crossed, that the wait wouldn't be long. It was a Friday night, around 6:00 and it was packed. We were told it would be a 25-35 minute wait. I was a little hesitant about waiting, but I had checked this place online before and picked it so everyone would be satisfied. Sure enough our blue thingy vibrated and lit up after about only 10 or so minutes. We got booth seating next to the big screen, which kept my brothers occupied. The food was good; we ordered Zucchini appetizers, burgers, pastas, pizzas, fish & chips. The high rating is largely in part to our waiter. He had a sort of nonchalance about him. His sly humor and attentiveness was great for us and my little nephew & he really had us all in a great mood. I wish I could remember his name to give him personal kudos. Overall, a great birthday experience!!

I have been going to Great Basin in Sparks since they opened and am a big fan. Last night our experience (food only), was not so great. Our server was excellent. I had a bowl of the Beer Cheese Soup, which I have had MANY times at the location in Sparks. The flavor was weird, and there was SO much sausage there was no soup. The soup was watery and oily, not creamy like I am used to. My husband had the lite portion of the fish and chips. He got TWO tiny pieces of fish. The jalapeno appetizer was decent. I hope this is just growing pains of a new location. It is closer to me and I would be more likely to go more often if the food was so sub-standard at the new location.

We liked everything about this place until... There was a large piece of glass found in my boyfriends pint glass, We ordered a pitcher of beer, drank it, and at the bottom of the glass was a large piece glass with small bits of glass sitting at the bottom. The absolute worst part of the whole ordeal is the fact that after talking to the manager he didn't offer to comp anything he just offered us another round of beers, which we obviously weren't interested in after we probably drank bits of glass in our beer. I would have forgiven them if they were more apologetic. Instead the seemed inexperienced with professionalism and obviously they are just too lazy to look at what they are serving their customers. This has ruined everything for me about this place because it makes me feel like they don't care about their customers, even in hazardous situations. I am truly upset about how the situation was handled, it ruined our evening and made us worry about our health. I am a person who has worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years and I know that this was pure laziness and I have seen the exact same situations handled more professionally by the manager. This whole thing was b.s. I just want the public to know to always check your glasses!

I'm shocked this place has had ANY good reviews. A group of us went in for lunch after knowing we all loved the Ichy IPA beer. Every entree ordered was terrible! I had a chicken ceasar wrap which was super dry and had barely any flavor, I asked for extra dressing and it didn't help at all. A friend ordered the pizza and thought it tasted like old frozen pizza. Another friend ordered a burger medium rare and it came out well as a hockey puck and he sent it back. We all work in the restaurant business so we don't complain about food or service ever, BUT this was absolutely, ridiculously bad. Lastly, Ichy is the only good beer they have and not enough of a reason to ever return.

Don't get to the Sparks location so I was thrilled when GBB Co. opened a new restaurant near me! It was busy but our party of four didn't wait too long and there were a couple of seats at the bar where we were served drinks very quickly. The fish and chips were excellent as was the service, my only concern was they were completely out of non-alcoholic beer!

What a disappointment! I suppose the lemon wheat beer was decent, though the smell was unappealing. The Desperado Burger, on the other hand, was almost inedible. The meat is so overcooked that I was wondering if mad cow disease was back. The burger was also over-seasoned with the "desperado steak seasoning"... it was way too salty, and covered up any taste of the actual meat. Perhaps this is Great Basin's way of getting customers to buy more beer. Also, the sauteed onions were dripping with oil. This, and the ketchup I added, were the only sources of moisture in the burger. The garlic fries were good, but there weren't many of them on the plate. My mother had the Sweet Italian Sausage Sandwich, which she said was basically tasteless, and the accompanying onions and peppers were too oily as well. I would have perhaps given this place a second chance (ordering different items, of course), but I spent most of that night and much of the next day ill (making me even more suspicious of the overcooked, over-seasoned burger). I would not recommend this establishment (unless you plan on spending the next 24 hours near a toilet).

New location in Reno next to the best buy and Barnes and Nobles. Same great beer and this location has pizza. It's fired in a brick oven and I believe the pizza dough has beer in it. Crust is good. Like good bread and pretty dense with a good selection of toppings. I also had the wings. I prefer slightly crunchier skin but they give carrots and celery and extra sauce was a nice touch. I've also had the stout and port at the old location. Best beer in Reno/Tahoe area by far. I'll definitely by my regular stop when in town.

I was really happy with my one visit to Great Basin Brewing Company. The computers were down the night we went there and our server handled it very professionally and they kept apologizing to us, however we didn't feel like we waited long at all for our food. The beers were good and the burgers were really fresh and good. I really enjoyed the flaky bun on my burger. The garlic fries weren't all that garlicky but overall it was a good experience! We also got this drunken clam appetizer that had jalapenos. It was so good!

We came here for lunch one day and were blow away. Shepard's pie was fantastic and my wife had macaroni with herb crusted chicken. Both were 4 out of 5 *. Returned and had the fish and chips, beyond my expectations. Met Taylor our waitress she is bubbly and friendly. Sunday brunch: where should I start, Banana pancakes are great biscuit's and gravey are home made and the gravey is great. Try the carnitas tacos and enjoy a mimosa for $3.00 All in all we have found a great spot for breakfast lunch and dinner. Thanks to every one here for making us feel right at home!

Dude! All I can say is WOW! Beer was cold and tasty. Had a pint of Peak Wheat. Food was HOT and yummy! I had the tri-tip sandwich with the garlic fries tried both the bbq sauce and chimey churry sauce on the side so I could put them both to yum factor test. I preferred the bbq sauce but they were both tasty. Wifey had fish n chips! YUM! Not greasy, real flaky, and good flavor. Kids had cheese burgers and fries. Everything was awesome. Everyone from the hostess to the servers were friendly and courteous! My last visit was 8/20/15. I have been to this location on 3 other occations and every trip has been the same. Great food. Great Beer. Good service. Great Atmosphere!

Food: 4.5 Stars Facility: 5 Stars Service: 3 Stars And unfortunately what I remember most about this visit is the service. It was not particularly busy tonight, the food seemed to come at a normal pace, but the overall attentiveness to anyone sitting outside was dismal. Not to mention they had 4 staffers sitting outside rolling silverware. All in all, the food was delicious. We had the artichoke dip appetizer, a BBQ burger, the chicken strips, and the macaroni pizza. Everyone enjoyed their dish but WOW, was the macaroni pizza the hit! Cheesy but sticky enough to stay together. The crust was a perfectly crisp, and the whole thing had some delicious bacon baked in! When we come back, we will definitely do that again. Not to say the service was unfriendly, because when we did get service they were pleasant. It just took forever even waiting to pay our bill.

Went to Great Basin for Lunch. My wife and I sat at the bar. Our bartender was very professional. Busy bar and she managed it well everything was clean and well organized. Full bar and of course the house brew. I had a pint of Nevada Gold and she had a glass of Fume Blanc which she has a slight obsession with. My beer was great, I'm a light beer guy by nature so this was right up my alley, would recommend this. To eat I had the Ruben with garlic fries. Ruben was good, ton of meat, could have used slightly more sauce. Fries were good. Good portion for me. The wife had a grilled cheese with avo. She liked hers. She couldn't finish, ton o cheese! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a local brewery with great beer and food. We will be back. Oh ya the price was right for tight wod tues. 2.50 pints. Cheers!

Some people's sense of entitlement is just plain amazing. Bashing Great Basin's amazing brunch because they only offer it on Sundays from 9:30am to noon? Yes, please go eat and demand special treatment elsewhere because I'm sure there are many other local businesses that will be willing to accommodate you ;) Now that I have that out of the way, I have to say that I am quite smitten by their no frills Sunday brunch offering. Beermosa, mimosa, and select pours for $3? Yes, please! And the entrees are no more than $10 and enough servings to cover breakfast AND lunch. I was excited to see they offer beer cheese soup and was even more excited that they let you substitute beer cheese instead of gravy. Definitely a fan! I also like how they make their own bread. While the brunch menu is limited, there's still enough great choices to make one indecisive. I just knew that I couldn't pass up on the Beernana pancakes and trying beer cheese over some brewmaster's potatoes, sausage, and bacon. More please! Brunch for two for less than $30 with some leftovers and a loaf of Icky bread? Definitely a fan!

Great Basin will always have a special place in my heart. I think the Sparks one it was one of the first restaurants I fell in love with when I moved to Reno. The Reno location has been open for a while and it's still one of our go-to spots for good food and beer. The beer cheese soup is one of my all-time favorite soups. I've tried making this at home, I've tried it at other restaurants and just nothing compares! No matter what I'm getting for an entrÃ©e, what time of day it is, or what season it is, I will ALWAYS order a cup of this soup. The Cuban sandwich is another one of our favorites. Not totally traditional, but most of the right components are there and it comes out pretty tasty. The Great Basin Harvest and Pacific Crest Cobb salads have been on their menus forever, but I still love them. Honestly, I don't think I've eaten anything terrible here. From the fish tacos, to sandwiches, to the pizzas, to their specials, I've never had a bad experience. I'm so happy that they've started bottling so many of their beers. But I also love that they rotate what they have on tap so often. Bitchin' Berry and Icky will always be some of my favorites, but I've made myself try some of their other seasonal beers and some of the beers that have on nitro. Again, I've never had a bad experience with their beers. Man, just thinking about their food and beer makes me think that a return trip is in the very near future!

Local brewery, second location. We went in a football Sunday. That's ok they were busy. The menu have the usual salads, sandwiches, burgers - the regular bar food. You go for their selection of beers. The food was ok my friend enjoyed his Mac attack pizza. The lettuce wraps looked good. My Cobb sandwich was a little dry- it needed the garlic aioli on it or more. Not a fan of the French fries. Next time just try the salad. The waitress was swamped but did find time to bring some ranch and to let her know the sandwich was eh, dry. She took care of it. My Son and I shared a nice Lunch here on the day before New Years. We were in town because the Kid wanted to visit Merwin's Game Shoppe, and I was game for a road trip. The place was packed and I found the ambiance to be a bit on the basic side. Luckily, we got a table in the room tucked off the the right when you come in. A view of the beer silos (and overflowing foam during fermentation) was a bonus, as was being in a nice warm room on a cold and snowy day. The Kid had a Burger and I had the "small" version of the fish and chips. Both were very good, as was of course the beer. I'd come back, except I'd probably want to check out other Reno area brew pubs first.

My family stopped into Great Basin Brewery for dinner and we were not disappointed. Upon entering we were greeted by a friendly hostess and promptly seated. She also asked us if we wanted a beverage, sadly when I asked about the beer specials she replied, "You're asking the wrong person about beer." And then walked off. While she may not have been 21 or perhaps doesn't drink, one would think she would still be familiar with the beer menu and seasonal specials in a brewery. After she returned with our non alcoholic beverages she walked off. Approximately 6 minutes later a waiter (Chuck) walked up and apologized for not serving us sooner. It was starting to get busy and he had a table with what appears to be a finicky family, so I could understand his slow response. We ordered the JalapeÃ±o Wontons as an appetizer. I found them to be well prepared and full of cream cheese. I would have liked a bit more diced jalapeÃ±o in them, but I really enjoy spicy. The honey jalapeÃ±o dip was simply fantastic. For our entree we had the Brueben, Salmon tacos and Shepherds pie. The Brueben was tasty although we felt it was lacking in sauerkraut and a bit light on the dressing. The corned beef was tender with a fantastic flavor. The salmon tacos were very tasty, but a bit more mango salsa would have made them perfect. The beer cheese soup was on point and the black beans were absolutely phenomenal. They had a smoky flavor with a hint of chipotle. The shepherds pie was an interesting take on the traditional dish as it was served in a bowl with the mashed potatoes and cheese in the center of the pie, like an island of deliciousness. The meat was tender and braised to perfection. The sauce had a wonderful earthy flavor and the thyme used was just the right amount, not overpowering as thyme can be if used in excess. I also tried the jalapeÃ±o beer, while the beer did not have a healthy head (often a sign of poor quality) it was not flat, nor was the quality poor. The beer had a very light flavor with a hint of jalapeÃ±o, perfect for a nice hot summer day. It complimented my meal perfectly. If I wasn't driving I would have had one more for dessert. I give four out of five stars due to the attitude of the hostess and the slight imperfections in the food quality. This will definitely be on our list of go to places when we are visiting Reno.

Always had a great experience at Great Basin brewery. Sparks and reno! When I wasn't a mother a few friends and I would come every Tuesday for tight wad Tuesday. $2 for a pint is ok in my book. Their saison is my ultimate favorite flavor of beer. They do have a darker beer that is amazing also. And gotta love that buzz. Lol Anyway. I've tried almost everything on their menu. The owner himself comes to our table and would greet us. Which is always a nice thing to do. The reno one opened and same thing I told the waiter my favorite beer is the saison and the guy that actually brews the saison came over and bought my beer. It's his fav also. The garlic fries are awesome. One time I asked them can I get the sweet potato fries in garlic and they said let me see and wah-lah now it's on their menu. They have a cucumber salad and side salads for those that are watching their waists, but ehhhh. Willy dillies are awesome. Mmm love fried pickles. They had a special of fried asparagus and yep that was amazing also. Well today I had their special pizza. Garlic cream sauce cheese, chicken, Carmelized onions and drizzled honey. Oh my yummy in my tummy. Was that an awesome combination. Oh yeah. My cousin got the fish and chips, but she wanted the willy dillies instead of fries and Bam!!! They did it for her for a small charge. Which was no biggie. They always accommodate. Which is awesome. Can't wait to drink some more beers again when I'm not pregnant. ;-) two thumbs up

We started with the Molten Cheese Lava Loaf. OMG it is a bread bowl filled with cheese! The bread - awesome! The cheese dip - awesome! It is like having your fondue pot and eating it too. 4 of us tore into this bad boy and there was still a chunk left at the end of dinner. Huge! For dinner I had the Spicy Black Bean Burger. It was a good black bean burger. The flavor was nice, just the right amount of spice. It is definitely not as bland as other black bean burgers that I have had. It is topped with the normal lettuce, tomato, onion plus avocado. I think I got half an avocado there was so much, I really liked that. All in all a good black bean burger.

I went for lunch recently and it was PACKED! Service was still pretty good and the food came out quick. We ordered "Willy Dillys" aka fried pickles to start. I could have just filled up on a couple orders of those alone. The batter is so crunchy and the pickle was firm and juicy, let alone the homemade ranch dressing. I'm a sucker for fried pickles. For an entree, I ordered fish tacos. Again that batter, heaven! And the fish though wasn't so special... Not bad but nothing to write home about. I loved the chipotle mustard. Sauce is usually my favorite part of a meal, but the sauce and the batter together was like the hallelujah chorus in my mouth. For me there was too much lettuce and tomato and eventually that made the fish and tortilla soggy. My man got the Rueben and loved it. It was juicy and cheesy and saucy. All the things the Rueben should be in his mind. His favorite were the garlic fries. The crispy garlic and crispy fries were perfect. (I even snagged some more chipotle mayo to dip... and didn't charge me extra ;)) 4 stars! :)

This place has a cool brewery vibe and good size bar. Really excited to check it out. The staff was ok, my wife and I waited 35 mins for a table that we watched them clean off when we walked in. They could have sat us 20 mins sooner then they did. This is the reason I gave it 3 stars. The food I would say is good. We had the artichoke dip to start which the dip was great but the bread with it was pretty plain. My wife had the salad which was average and I had the Mac and cheese pizza. The pizza was pretty good and fun combination. I'd say the food would be 3 and half stars. The waitress was a younger girl and really didn't provide that great of service. We gave her our drink order and tried to order appetizer but she walked away. Overall our experience was just ok.

Long gone are the days of hearing "table or booth" when your hostess takes you from the waiting area. My daughter and I were out on a girl's day this past Saturday which included haircuts, the mall and of course, lunch. We threw a few ideas out on where to eat and settled on the Great Basin because neither of us had tried it before and I relished in the idea of Yelping yet another new place. This place lacks 100% of the charm that the original Victorian location has. It spews chain restaurant from the moment you walk in and the food, as well as the customer service was just about the same. It's located in the busy shopping center that also contains Barnes & Noble, Best Buy and Macaroni Grill but we found that parking was easy enough as it was not very busy when we arrived. We did not have a wait and our hostess took us straight to the seating area and walked us over to a table. I loathe tables. I will use them if they don't have any open booths but they had tons of open booths so I asked for one. Silently she walked us to a booth, dropped our menus on the table and walked away. Nice. Our waitress, although a tad vacant, was nice enough. My daughter ordered a "make your own" pizza and I got a turkey sandwich of sort - I don't remember the name of it. We also ordered the artichoke & spinach dip - a staple wherever we go so we can compare to the ones we have had before. The Artichoke & Spinach dip was cold. It was also bland. It was also covered in Cheddar Cheese which covered up any potential taste of Artichoke. The bread that came with it was burnt. We had to send it back. Our waitress walked by us literally 5 times before she noticed we were not eating it. She asked if we would like a new one and we told her no considering it had been so long and we knew that it would end up coming out with our main courses. My daughter enjoyed her pizza very much. My sandwich was just "OK" - too much turkey and not enough of the fun cheese sauce the menu had boasted about. It was just too dry. I can't speak to the bar area since we didn't come for drinks or happy hour. (What with the minor child and all). They did credit the appetizer that we didn't eat and the whole lunch was under $30.00 with tip but between the not so nice hostess as well as our vacant but pleasant waitress I'd have to say I'll stick with the Sparks location and won't return to this one.

We tried to go to another Restaurant first and were told we had an 80 minute wait, so we decided to head to Great Basin! They take call ahead seating to put your name on the list. When we got there, our party of 5, only waited 10 minutes! We were seated in a very roomy booth! Our drink order was taken promptly! I ordered a wheeler peak wheat, which was delicious! Their brews menu is big, and there is something for everyone! We got some appetizers to start! Willy dillys (deep fried dill pickles) and artichoke dip. Both were very good! Our waitress was very busy, but was on it the whole time! We ordered food, I got the rice bowl, and some beer cheese soup! PLEASE make sure to try the soup when you go here! They make this with their homemade beer and you get some of their homemade icky beer bread with it! Amazing!!! Really a gem! You should check it out!

The boy and I drive by Great Basin all the time when getting groceries each week and we kept telling ourselves we would go, and we finally did. We opted for the one in Reno, since that's the one we drive by, and my friends, we were so disappointed. Incredibly. Ugh. And the both of us now have severe stomach-aches as well. Fantastic combination. So, obviously this isn't a healthy place, which is usually what we try to go for. But I was in the mood for a drink and some great American food. I ordered the only Cider they have, which I did actually like. It almost drank like a wine; had a nice tart taste. The boy ordered the Bitchin Berry Rita, which actually surprised me as he usually goes for a dark beer. I took one sip and my only thought was, "this tastes like it's watered down." Needless to say, he didn't even finish it. For an appetizer, we ordered the Lettuce Wraps. I'm not usually a fan of chain restaurants, but PF Chang's has the best around; we thought we would compare. PF Chang's won, no contest. These were okay but there were definitely some flaws. First of all, the lettuce cups were dark green, as opposed to the really crunchy, light green romaine lettuce cups you get at PF Chang's. They weren't crunchy at all and it was hard to hold the ingredients inside. Also, for the same price, there was definitely less food. I did, however, like the peanut sauce and Thai sauce it came with. For entrees, I ordered the Shepard's Pie with a side of the "famous, signature" cheese soup and the boy ordered fish tacos with sweet potato waffle fries. The Shepard's Pie was completely doused in what looked to be pretty cheap cheese, which I opted to take off (at least most of it). The cheese was a coverup for the not-so-present potatoes. Seriously, it's Shepard's Pie and I got jipped on potatoes, there was hardly any there. And the broth-y, meaty part? SUPER salty. I mean, shoot. I should have just dumped the salt shaker into my mouth. The meat did seem to be pretty tender and the veggies in that great in-between stage (not raw, but not mushy) but I just couldn't get over the overwhelming taste of salt. The cheese soup was nothing special and I wasn't really a fan. The boy said his fish tacos were okay and the sweet potatoes were also okay. Some were crispy, some limp. Some with okay seasoning, others with none. The aioli it came with was nice to have with the fries. I was not planning on dessert, but the waiter said bacon and chocolate and I was like seriously? Say no more. I was looking for a reason to like this place. This dessert isn't always on the menu, apparently, and is only for a limited time. It's a chocolate, nutty brownie with bacon inside with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. I was expecting a small dessert, this thing was huge (or rather just topped with mounds of whipped cream to make it appear that way). It was good, but I really wished it was 1/4 of the size because it was just way too much. Unfortunately, I probably won't be giving Great Basin another shot. Our service was meh, as was the food. Had high hopes for this place.

I'm a huge fan of breweries so I love having Great Basin available locally. I met a friend for lunch today, Sunday at around 12:30. It was slightly busy but plenty of open tables as well. I've had most of the dishes on the menu here, and I would say that most are a step above normal pub/bar food available in Reno. I'm usually there around dinnertime, but today it was lunchtime so I got a chicken caesar salad. Our waitress, Katie, asked me if I wanted barley-crusted chicken instead of grilled chicken on my salad - I'd never been asked that before, so I went with it, and it was awesome. Some of my other favorite dishes here are the shepherd's pie, fish & chips, and the mac and cheese. The reason I'm giving this place 4 stars rather than 5 is because of their lack of the Bitchin' Berry beer. This has always been my favorite beer here, but Great Basin consistently does not brew enough of it to satisfy demand. I find it a bit ridiculous that they run out of their flagship fruit beer before Spring even begins - they ran out in mid-March and were unable to tell me when it would be back. They also don't allow you to purchase growlers of the Bitchin' Berry when it is available. I say make Bitchin' Berry a permanent fixture on tap... until then, it's a 4 star max.

We just had a late lunch and I have to say, I had a GREAT MEAL! We were looking for some place kind of "kick back" and something that wasn't too expensive. We were pleased on both counts. We had the Cheese Lava Loaf for starters and "OH MY!" What a wonderful appetizer it was. We had prompt service and were visited by our waitress at various times throughout our meal to make sure we were happy, enjoying our food and had our beverages topped off. We ordered the Cobb Sandwich and Breuben Sandwich with the turkey substitution. Fantastic!!! There were several TVs on showing various games, so one would not be disappointed if a sports fan.

The only reason this place doesn't get a five star from me is because the food isn't awesome. On the other hand, it's pretty good. Most of the experiences I've had here have been at the bar, but I agree with a lot of the past reviewers that the service at the tables is sub-par. Every time I sit at them I wonder why I didn't just stick to the bar. The beer is brewed there, and it's generally great. Katie's Cream Ale is my favorite, and while it used to be a rotating beer, I think it's been converted to a permanent tap now. I love their seasonal brews (think they should do a pumpkin ale!), and really enjoy tightwad Tuesdays. The food is, like I said, decent. It's not the best food ever and it's not the worst, and if you stick to some things that they make good (their California Caesar is awesome), then you're in good shape. I did used to call the salad "salad roulette" because it would differ based on the day what I would get--sometimes chips, sometimes bread, sometimes dressing on the side, sometimes not, sometimes avocado, sometimes none. However, the bar staff is super friendly and willing to fix any issues that come up and get you whatever you need. Their mac and cheese pizza is decadent and cheesy and filling--a good choice. They have growlers and fill them for pretty inexpensively, but make sure you inquire about whether a beer is more expensive (sometimes when they have pricey ingredients they increase the cost for a growler fill, but may not mention it when you ask for the fill). One of my favorite places to grab a beer and a snack in the city--check it out if you haven't.

I am not an expert on beer but I am on soups. The cheese and beer soup at Great Basin made it to my unwritten top ten list of the best soups that I have ever had. Their cheese and beer soup is so smooth, so tasty, so perfect and with the sausage, potatoes and carrots in it it might be better called beer and cheese chowder. If I could afford it I would have a pipeline built south along US395 and pump it to San Diego. I live 1.8 miles away from Stone Brewing and their cheese and beer soup is garbage -- too strong, too overpowering. The only improvement for Great Basin's relates to looks. A dusting of paprika or chopped parsley (not both), would make it look better.

This place is just not very good unless you are in the mood to just drink beer and even then I would be cautious on what you order. My husband and I came in this evening and was ignored by the hostess until we approached her. She took our name and never told us how long of a wait time there would be until we asked. Ten minutes go by and we notice there are way more people leaving than arriving and yet we are not seated. When we finally did get seated it was at a high topped bar table that had been open and empty for our entire wait time. Our server rushed over before we could even open our menus and asked for our drink order. I don't know why servers push for this. You see, tonight was my first time ever stepping foot into this establishment, and if I would have been able to actually look at the menu I would have been able to decide on a drink. Already frustrated I ordered an ice tea. We decided on trying the artichoke cheese dip and it was disappointing. Very bland and kind of bitter. The crustini bread was well over cooked and hard. We had a BBQ burger and a pattymelt. Both very boring even when extra BBQ and ranch dressing were added. The server never returned until after we were finished eating and only then did she offer a refill to my husband who ended up having to finish my drink during dinner. I asked for the check and was ready to pay before she returned to the table. Ya see GBB, I am efficient. You're restaurant is not, and we will not be returning customers. And as a side note for your future customers, you should always ask if it is okay to seat people in the bar area. I am not a rowdy college kid on a drinking binge and did not appreciate having drunken idiots and hoes bumping into my table and screaming out obscenities during my dinner.

Bailey and Chuck are the best bartenders I've ever had! The beer is awesome and the service is great. Everyone is very educated about the beer and happy to serve. This place is great. I will be coming back here every time I'm in Reno.

We came here on the Monday after Christmas (after a very responsible 2-person, post-Christmas pub crawl from Old Granite Street to the River Room, to here)... and Christmas came twice in 2011, because Monday is half off of WINGS night!!! And we're not talkin' jankie little wings, we are talked meaty, spicy, succulent wings!! Okay, so maybe they aren't the best wings ever. But when they are half off and you get like 12 wings for 4.50 or something like that, you gotta love it. I love this place, especially its new location in my parents' neck o' the woods. The last time I went the waitress was a little sweetheart, and per usual, the beer was excellent. They have a back-ish room that looks like it would be good for larger parties, a bar, bar seating, and the main restaurant. Lots of options to choose from depending on your mood! I love to support this place! Yay GBBC!

Great basin brewery in Reno is a fantastic place to go for any occasion, with friends or with family. Their bartenders are first class, providing quick and friendly service, even during their busiest times. My family and I love coming here for the "neighborhood" feel and the great service we always receive. They also have a great assortment of liquors and and a great variety of beers that will fit your preference. I haven't had much experience in the dinning area since we usually sit at the bars closest to the TV to watch sports but the waiters and waitresses are always busy and always smiling. They also have a great assortment of food however I am a vegetarian and I wish they had more vegetarian options readily available. I usually have to customize a pizza which is fine because their pizza is FANTASTIC!! But a little more variety would be nice. Their mac and cheese minus the bacon is also extremely delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting a great place to eat, drink some good beers, and catch up on some sports!

So far, I've eaten/drank at the bar, as well as dined-in with a couple of friends. For the most part, my experiences have been positive, but there have been a few less than satisfying experiences: 1. Kelly is the bomb. As is Shanda. Kelly typically bartends during the week - is extremely welcoming, conversational, and just the perfect person to ask if you have a question about the menu, or Reno in general. She's been the bartender there during the weekends (during the day) and always seems on the ball. Shanda is super friendly, super cute, and probably the best damn waitress I've had in Reno. There, I said it. 2. Other bartenders have tended to fall short. To give you a sense of what I mean: Kelly told me her name, I didn't ask for it. Other bartenders have tended to blow me off, particularly on the post-work shift of about 6-7 PM. For instance, it's been hard to get a second look when I say I'm not there for food. And while there was one bartender who seemed like they were just having a shitty day (it happens, they were nice otherwise) no one seemed on top of it enough to cover. Frustrating. So: I like Great Basin. They have a damned good selection of beers, and they brew some awesome examples representative of styles I didn't even know exist. At $4.50 for most pints, (or $2.50 on tight-wad Tuesdays) it's not hard to feel like I'm getting my money's worth. The same goes for the food - they make their own kick-ass bread, some off beat choices like the Mel's Style Reuben stand out for being an unexpected but totally worthwhile spin on standard bar food. Their pizzas are also kick ass and damn well priced considering the other pizza in town. But ask for Kelly or Shanda.

The waiter was very helpful in finding a beer selection to fit my taste. I really like a berry beer that is half berry and usually half "other" beer so my beer still tastes like beer. The homemade mac and cheese was super yummy. You can't go wrong with Great Basin in my opinion.

The Great Basin is always our treat to ourselves. We have our standard favorites, but we love trying out the custom brews, usually released to coincide with local traditions or special events. The brewery goes to great lengths to present fresh foods, often locally grown, and often marinated or dressed up with one of their brews. Our recent favorite was the "special" appetizer of drunken jalapeÃ±o poppers - FRESH crunchy peppers with two kinds of cheese and a wonderful honey-bacon-jalapeno dipping sauce...we were considering foregoing dinner in favor of two more orders! Always a pleasure.

Couple brews stand out and worth getting a growler of. Food is bar food, so sick of all brewery's, pubs, gastro, whatever, etc.... It's beer first food second. With that said it was exactly what the menu describes no shocks suprises or disappointments! Would've got 5 stars but service lags here, be prepared to ask again for things, order drinks at the bar for faster service.

I thought it would be cool to check out the local beer scene while in Reno, so my friends and I stopped in for drinks and dinner on a Friday night. It wasn't overly crowded, but they seemed to be a bit understaffed. Our waitress was zipping around from table to table and we hardly saw here except when we ordered. I had myself a pint of their Jackpot Porter (I'm a dark beer girl) and a friend and I split a tasting flight. The porter was pretty average, nothing exceptional there. I did like their "Icky" IPA, which is one of their signature beers. It was pretty hoppy, even for an IPA, but not overwhelming. Another fairly memorable brew was their Bitchin' Berry, which reminded me a bit of a Frambozen from New Belgium. For food I ordered the Honey Jalapeno Chicken Salad. It was exactly what I wanted, nothing more. I liked the sweet taste with a little bit of a kick, emphasis on little. Overall, the experience was average. Nothing bad, but nothing great either.

Great beers! And the food was very good too. Had a wonderful dining experience here, tasted numerous beers of high quality from wheat to the high powered IPA's. Service was quick, responsive and our meals were out quick which was good as we were pretty hungry after a day of sightseeing through the area. Did I mention the beers are really good?

I went on a Monday for lunch to kill time before a flight. There were only 3 other people in the place everyone at the bar. Despite all that it still was like pulling teeth to get the bartender to serve me. Their beer is decent. Some much better than others. While I was there some of the staff had just returned from the Great American Beer Festival and came back empty handed. Better luck next time Great Basin! If you are in Reno and want a beer it is a good pick.

Tried Great Basin for the first time the other night. Our server was nice, but it took her forever to get to us, and once she realized that we were her table she forgot most of the things we asked her for. The food was just ok. We split the Garlic Fries which were pretty good, and probably the highlight of dinner. I ordered the Rice Bowl (gluten-free food option!) and my husband ordered the steak. His steak was so incredibly fatty that he probably only got to eat a quarter of it. Drinks are great - you can't really go wrong when you're at a brewery. I was adventurous and tried the Cookie Shot, which was delicious. My husband really enjoyed the Icky (who doesn't?), and happiness was had by all.

This is a great place to hang out for dinner and drinks. The food and beer are great. The staff are friendly and effecient. Atmosphere is nice. I would go there everyday if I could! Their garlic fries are the best in town.

Let me start off by saying I still have no idea what the fascination Reno/Sparks people have with great basin. The food is very average and their home brews are nothing to rave about either. The service is usually very good. The staff is always friendly and attentive and this place is typically packed, so you can expect a good social crowd. I specifically came for the mac attack (mac & cheese pizza) everyone has been raving about and saying it's life changing, let me tell you it's not. It's a good decent pizza and I enjoyed the crust significantly, but that was about it. The mac & cheese was tender and the best part was the bacon, which was thick with just the right amount of crispiness and chewiness. This pizza sorely lacked the creaminess and high gooey cheese content you would expect from a good mac & cheese. It could have just been the one I got that day, but from my experience, I probably would NOT order it again. The burgers here are probably still the best thing on the menu. You can't go wrong with their bbq burger or the black and blue. The fried pickles and garlic fries are decent appetizers as far as taste, quality and portion size for the price. Stay away from the fish & chips is my tip when eating here. Overall, I think there are still much better brew pubs in town as far as price, food quality and drink selection. Work on a better happy hour menu especially with your food and add some cheesy creaminess to that mac & cheese pizza and then I will become a true believer and supporter of the Great Basin, until then my allegiances will remain else where.

Ok. We have been there twice now. I'll give the beer 5 stars. All Delish! I'm only giving 3 stars as the service has never been good, u stand there waiting to be seated, while everyone walks by you forever before even acknowledging you there. The place was not busty and took 45 minutes to get our food. When the waiter said they hadn't even started cooking our 4th persons meal yet and would she like another bowl of soup. Then after waiting forever for our food, fries were cold and burgers looks like they'd been in the window for awhile. Skipping this place next time. Mismanaged, no one cares here. You can tell.

Yawn. Because I don't drink, I normally don't pick a restaurant based on the fact that it is a brewery too, but in this case, my friend is a beer drinker and wanted to come here to drink some Ickys. The ambiance: Pretty basic, forgettable decor. Having hordes of screaming children didn't help the atmosphere. (Parents - are you deaf and immune to the shrieking of your children in public places? Good god - despite everyone in the restaurant shooting dirty looks at this big table with two families and lots of kids pounding on the table, screaming and throwing things, the parents didn't seem to notice). I ordered salsa and chips as an appetizer. The salsa was odd tasting, didn't like it at all, and the nachos seemed stale. My friend's Manila clam appetizer took so long to get to us that the dish arrived AFTER we started eating our main dish. The best thing about that dish was the garlic bread, and those toasted slices came slightly blackened - obviously overdone. We both ordered fish and chips, which were okay. The tartar sauce was actually pretty good, but the batter on the fish was dark and slightly burned. Pretty disappointing. Not worth the $50 tab, IMO.

I like this spot, They have pizza here. Always a good selection of beer and seasonals, I never sit in the dining room but I would not come here if that was my only choice. Far too many kids. But t he bar area is far enough away to mute down all but the most poorly parented kids. I alI like sitting at the bar because usually you are constantly interacting and can just get stuff, or put an order in when you are ready. The beers are good, and Kelly the bartender is GREAT ! she is always on it, and remembers what you like. Is real good about tweaking your food order as you want it. The older tall bartender is OK, but seems to work the McGruff behavior too much, lighten up and smile more dude, it's more fun for everyone that way. Maybe I caught him on a couple off days. They have a macaroni and cheese pizza that I have yet to order, eventually I will as people say it sounds weird but it tastes great. The other pizzas are good, brick oven style. there is a little counter in front of the pizza oven if you want to watch the whole thing in process, not me I prefer to be closer to the beer. They sell their in house baked bread here, $4.00 , maybe a buck more than a store artisan loaf, but it's real good and saves me a stop. I like the food here better than Sparks, even some of the same things seem to be better prepared here. And in both locations, I like that they put the effort into having a daily special insert in the menus, who can remember what's on a chalkboard as you walk by at most places? I can't stand any of the sausage sandwiches, they are undersized and over priced, just a boring presentation. I did see a someone order some kind of sausage by the yard , some sort of crazy meat only bar dish, kinda like a cheese board, but with no cheese. (I don't think they have this in Sparks) Burgers are good, and they have pastrami in house if you want to ad stuff like that. They need to update the webpage to have the S. Virginia locations menu online. All around a good stop, parking lot sucks, there should be an exit/entrance right to McCarran.

Service was good and the beer was decent. Their Icky IPA was just that. Not a fan of overly malty IPAs with minimal hops. The Chocolate Stout was very good. McDonald's has better burgers and the fish & chips were soggy.

Stopped here on our way to Tahoe from Reno airport. Service was friendly. On a Thursday at 2:00 the place was quite busy. The beers were good and the food was too.. But the garlic fries are not. Made from dehydrated garlic flakes, not fresh garlic. Bummer.

I shouldn't have laughed. Seriously, I screwed an entire population by bragging about the amazing weather in the Bay Area and Reno. Last weekend I was in the Bay - I wore SHORTS. In Reno? I wore a hoodie and some sweats - but nothing else, really. Hell, I braved it enough to wear sandals and I didn't get frostbite! So while everyone else was getting 12 feet of snow, I laughed. And now...all of Northern California/Northern Nevada is under either a ton of snow or a ton of rain. And BLACK ICE, which apparently forms when temperatures get below freezing. I'm amazed KTVU news felt the need to explain that, so I assume their primary demographic are 5 year olds. After a late night yoga class, I was hankering for some pizza. Yoga brained and hungry for cheese, we called just about every pizza place in the area - no? You're closed at 9:30 on a Friday night? You say you haven't gotten any business in an hour and a half so you're closing early? Interesting, I'm sitting outside and your restaurant has people in it. Driving down Virginia, FH finally said, "FUCK IT. I need a beer if I'm going to drive in this weather," so we headed to Great Basin. Yes, their kitchen was closed. BUT...they had a slice of pizza and a beer special for 5.99! By the way, that wasn't a slice, you gave us a quarter of a pizza. I got sausage and mushroom goodness (poked the roof of my mouth so that hurts now) and an Icky, and then after we shared a bread pudding. nomnomnom According to Rory X. they have a mean breakfast on weekends, so maybe I should start getting my ass up at 7:30am to get to an early yoga class and try some of their real menu.
