Our 8 year old picked where we went for dinner tonight. She enjoyed the Chinese red paper lantern decor and the Buddha statues up front (a big gold laughing Buddha to left of cash register and an Indonesian Buddha tucked away in another corner) She enjoyed the experience. Now about the food... I am sad to say that I agree with the other reviews about the food quality. So, the takeaway here... you go here for the kiddos, not so much for mom and dad that have very modest expectations. We ordered: Shrimp lo mein, Mongolian beef, Steamed vegetables, Poo poo plater. The steamed vegetables and poo poo platter were more than adequate. The shrimp lo mein, not so much. The shrimp seemed a bit old and rubbery. The Mongolian beef had fantastic green bell peppers and onions. But the beef, I can't exactly put my finger on it, but the meat seemed a bit odd? It was just okay. I would not order the Shrimp lo mein, nor the Mongolian Beef again. Definitely skip those dishes and try something else if you end up eating here. The steamed vegetables (small "side dish" of broccoli, cabbage and thinly sliced carrot) were almost lukewarm, but free of any sauce or seasoning, not even salt or pepper, perfectly plain. If you are a plant strong Nutritarian, order a double side order! The salt & pepper and condiments are on the table.

Buffet weak. Veges good but low quality meats and poor quality sauces. Egge drop soup no flavor.

My husband and I stayed at the Econolodge for the night and wanted food from a place which delivered. Although this restaurant did deliver the prices were a bit expensive, the delivery was very slow, and it was the worst Chinese food I think I've ever had.

We're driving across country and stopped overnight in Tucumcari. I honestly didn't expect much in the way of Chinese food, but I really had a craving so I gave it a shot. Delicious!!!!! The fried dumplings were light and crisp, and the dipping sauce was scrumptious. Both the egg drop and wonton soups were very good - not greasy like I find so many to be. For entrees I had General Tso's tofu and my husband had General Tso's chicken. I was so pleasantly surprised. The sauce was flavorful but not so hot that it obscured the taste. There was none of the heavy breading you find so often with this dish - the ingredients stood on their own. I was raised in NYC and I freely admit I am finicky about my Chinese food, but I would eat here again in a heartbeat. I even got some extra food to go and plan on having it for breakfast. The menu said the restaurant has been here for over 21 years. I can understand why - all the food we ordered was not only amazingly tasty but the grand total, including take out, was under $40. And we are stuffed. Thanks for a memorable meal in a very unexpected place!

If you are feeling like Chinese food when you are in Tucumcari, you must do yourself a favor and do NOT stop here. I was not expecting much but yet I was still grossly disappointed. In fact, my dinner ended up in the garbage can. I ordered Pork egg foo young. I asked specifically about it if they made it or was it pre made. Sadly they made it without egg. Mow do you do that? Everything was burned, floured and fried. All without egg. It was not an omelet like I have had everywhere but absolute garbage. My buddy ordered chicken on a stick and could barely eat it. He called it jerky. Truth be told, they should just close down. Please, enjoy McDonalds or something a step up from this horrible excuse of a restaurant.

Is there not a health department in Tucumcari? Restaurant is filthy, carpet is being held together with duct tape and is so dirty I don't think they could ever get it clean. When handed the menus it felt like they had never been wiped off, plus they are very shabby. That should have given us the idea to get out right away. But we each ordered an entrée and a cup of egg drop soup. My husband and I each had one tiny sip of the soup from our spoons and then asked the waitress to take it away stating "It has a musty moldy taste to it". Waitress never said anything other than "O really"? When we got our entree's they were so bad that we just picked thru them and left. Meat in both dishes are was not fresh. I can just imagine what the kitchen looked like. Maybe the owner should sell Mercedes and use the money on some soap and water. DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!!!!

Meh. Dumplings and egg rolls were probably frozen and fried. General Tso's was dry on top and good on the bottom. Sauces were terrible. Skip this restaurant.

The food is OK,given the constraint that this is a pretty small town.. it is what I would call "Ameri-Chin" food, basically the sauces are watered down to American tastes (not nearly as spicy as they should be, flavorings modified by adding sugar or other stuff Americans tend to like) and there is more sweet and fried stuff.. The owners/staff are pretty friendly. If you are cruising along I-40, you will find better in Albuquerque if you are going west and can wait and well, if you are going east, you better eat here if you want Chinese food because you are headed to the Texas Panhandle which is a whole lotta nothing except for Amarillo, which is not exactly known for Chinese food, so really nothing too promising for a Chinese food fan until Oklahoma City's Asian District I think..

Good Chinese food for a little town. Generals tso's and sweet and sour are favorites. Good friendly service. If you go in for the buffet late, it can get a little bad.

Golden Dragon is the best Chinese food in this little town in the high desert. I've eaten here no less than a dozen times over the past two decades. It has always been a decent meal. An old route 66 building mid-century architecture with street front parking. In the doors to the hostess station and down into the dining areas. This family run restaurant is nothing fancy but it is clean, fresh and always made to order. I often plan my long distance trips around staying in Tucumcari for the night just to have to opportunity to eat here again. The noodles are the best. Vegetables and Spring rolls are always fresh and prepared well, even for in the middle of nowhere. I do not do the buffet. Always order from the menu. The service has always been kind, friendly and accommodating. The owner takes great pride in his food and always comes to see if everything is satisfactory. Golden Dragon is a fair value for the amount and quality of food prepared, with very good service. My meals have always been hot, fresh, clean and to order, every time. There are not a lot of options for good food in this high desert town, this is one of them. A solid 4 star eatery, and my choice for a evening meal in Tucumcari when I there. 00223

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
