This is part review, part public apology. The review: this was my first time staying at a Bed and Breakfast, so I was an amateur with no expectations. The room - Cowgirl Suite - was perfect. The bed was comfortable. The furnishings were ornate, and authentic. The room has a steam room/shower and jacuzzi, both of which were awesome. Breakfast was awesome. The hosts made delicious fare and offered warm conversation. They introduced us to their baby, making the experience seem very intimate and special. They gave us some terrific recommendations for places to visit, and my girlfriend and I had the best hike of our lives at their advice. The garden was also very beautiful, offering a quiet place to relax for a few minutes. Overall, staying here was an awesome decision. I recommend it to anyone. Here I transition to review/apology: The hosts went above and beyond more than once. We had heard about the place while having dinner in Taos, and we needed to book a place to stay late at night. The online reservation system allowed us to book, but we arrived very late at night - around 10.00 pm. This wasn't just past check-in, it was past bedtime, and our needs were graciously met at their expense. With a baby, sleep is rare, so it was a genuine bummer that we interrupted with our arrival. Our host let us in with kindness and thoroughness, and the next morning they apologized for him being grumpy. He wasn't. In fact, he was very friendly given the circumstances. Then, in my paranoia, I asked if they would be willing to store my bicycle to protect it while we drove to the hike. They graciously agreed, securing it in a great on the property. I needed to be back by 6.00 pm to retrieve the bike - and this was after checking out. Our hike went much longer than we intended, and we ended up repeating the same mistake by arriving after bedtime. Again, the host woke from sleep to help. I could tell I was no longer welcome. But without going into detail, their going above and beyond while being essentially abused by a couple of amateur guests helped me during a difficult time of transition in my personal life. Their kindness and generosity was inspiring.

Cute place. Not the most prepared for food distribution for a wedding, needing to utilize guests room's refrigerators as storage. Could use better attention to customer service detail & courtesy.

Great place. Comfortable and spacious accommodations. Very friendly owners that are knowledgeable and make a nice breakfast. Nice quiet location with a great view of the majestic Pueblo Peak. Convenient location to very nice restaurants such as the Love Apple and El Meze.

It is pricey for what you get. The room was attractively decorated and quaint, but very small for over $250 a night. Be ready to park away from your room and drag your luggage through gravel, up the stairs yourself. No air conditioning means open windows, so our room was quite warm in the June afternoons, and we were awakened very early to a garbage truck beeping and banging under our window... not exactly a quiet mountain morning or smell... I was also turned-off by a placard solicitation in my room for additional tips to be paid for the housekeepers. Come on, I just paid over $250 to sleep in a hot little room... The fast-food restaurant next door does detract significantly from the pristine mountain atmosphere they focus their marketing on. I did not expect it to be in such a congested, busy area. It also shares a driveway with another restaurant/hotel, so its crazy narrow and perilous to turn into from the main road, dodging trees and others trying to exit from the single lane. Still, the hospitality was excellent and the breakfasts substantial. The back yard, view, and landscaping is VERY pretty. If you can schedule a cooking class through the B+B with Chris Mayer, do it!!! That was BY FAR the highlight of our stay!!! Otherwise it comes down to whether quaint adobe atmosphere is worth a whole lot of money to you...or not. It was a nice place... but I think I'd rather spend my vacation money in other ways.

We have been coming to Taos in February for 11 years. Originally Salsa del Salto stayers, which is now out of business, we have been looking for a new spot. After trying the Adobe and Stars for two years with dismal results, we gave Hacienda del Sol a whirl this year and we were not disappointed. The folks were super friendly and accomodating, the rooms and amenities are nice. A couple of cons: location is behind the LotaBurger by no fault of their own, detracts slightly but not a major minus b/c it is also next door to the Love Apple - look for my glowing review on that next. Also, not close to the ski mtn like we prefer, but again not a deal breaker, especially because of the great lift ticket deal they offer. These owners are in the hospitality biz and they know it. A tour to start makes you feel right at home. Softest sheets I've ever slept on. Very cozy hang out room. Amazing deal on lift tix. Very quaint grounds and nice secluded hot tub with sign up sheet so you get privacy. We will be back for sure.

I was reading the raving reviews about this place on Trip Advisor and Yelp and was ready to book a room. I then came across a promotion they were doing on taos.org and it was good until March 04, 2012. It stated to call the number for more info. Nowhere on the site did it mention or give instructions to call during certain hours. I called wanting to inquire about the promotion (before I book a room) and a woman answered. I explained why I was calling in a calm, gentle manner and I was shocked when she abruptly cut me off in mid-sentence and rudely yelled on the phone and told me that the number I had dialed was an after hour emergency number only and to call during a certain time. How was I suppose to know that when there was nothing mentioned about that on the site where I saw the phone number? If your going to post a telephone number on a website either you make it clear that the number is an after hour emergency number only or have a seperate voicemail number to accept messages and inquiries for after hour calls. The manner and tone in which the woman handled my call was so unprofessional. That's all it took for me to book with a different B&B and I'm glad I did. You can read more about my reviews and experiences there in a seperate post. I was really shocked and turned off by her unprofessionalism. Sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it. This woman sounded like she did not belong in the hospitality industry. Paying good money to stay at what appears to be a stunning property is meaningless if you have employees that are not properly trained to execute warmth, hospitality and exceptional customer service. People (especially in the hospitality industry) need to be aware that a guests first impression of a place is not always going to be formed when they physically set foot on the property. Sometimes (as in this case) the woman who answered the phone was the person I had my initial contact with and it left me with a very poor impression of this place. That was my first and last impression of Hacienda Del Sol Bed & Breakfast.

I came to Taos with a few girlfriends for some R&R and Hacienda del Sol was exactly what the Doctor ordered. I did a fair amount of research on the large number of B&B's in the area, and when we finally arrived I couldn't have been happier about my selection. The rooms are adorable- original adobe structure, each equipped with awesome wood burning fire places and great southwest decor. The property backs up to acres and acres of gorgeous open space and there are two large lawn areas equipped with plenty of chairs to lounge in and enjoy the absolutely gorgeous backdrop. The hostess and the innkeepers were extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The food was also fabulous! The current innkeepers used to run a restaurant down in Florida- and it definitely shows. Delicious snacks were served throughout the day (including what they called a "better than sex cake" and it was nearly comparable) as well as very tasty options for breakfast each morning. I've stayed at a number of B&B's and 5 star hotels across the US, and I can strongly say that when in Taos a B&B is the way to go, and Hacienda del Sol is the perfect choice.

What an absolutely fabulous experience! The innkeepers are delightful, the breakfasts to die for...choice of a savory egg dish [huevos rancheros, yum!], pancakes with fruit or a French toast special preparation [we had French toast stuff with cream cheese and apricots!], cookies and cold drink in the afternoon, lovely grounds, hot tub you can reserve for privacy...and did I say the innkeepers couldn't do enough to make your stay comfortable? The property is well cared for, the shady lawn with croquet set a great place to relax, and the beds comfortable. There is a living room with TV for those who must have it, books, puzzle, and plenty of private gathering spaces to sit and chat. Wonderful, wonderful would go back in a heartbeat! Just stay away from Touchstone next store. Our artists workshop was there and everyone who stayed at that Inn was miserable as the Touchstone innkeepers were.

Our stay here was alright. While we definitely felt that the owners and staff were friendly and the breakfast was quite good, I expected the room to be a bit nicer. The room we stayed in had two bedrooms, but the second bedroom was really only suitable for small children. The lighting in our room was quite poor as well. I personally did not care for the location- it is right off the main street, next to two restaurants, notably a fast food restaurant and when we got out of our car every day, we could smell hamburgers. I don't understand how this bed and breakfast continually gets 5 stars and is recommended in Fodors and Frommers. Perhaps if we would have had a different room, my review would be different. This is a nice bed and breakfast, I just don't think its as good as all the reviews I read.

Outstanding stay in a perfect/quirky part of the planet. A bit on the pricey side, but worth it. The owners make everything worthwhile. We'll be back.
