We love this place. I've never stayed in the hotel but I've had breakfast here and now lunch. It's become a usual stop in our annual/biannual trek to Red River, NM. The hotel has all of the neat antiques in the lobby/front area and towards the back is this awesome diner set up probably form the original hotel. Love it! I won't review breakfast because it's been a few trips since I have had it, but I will say the red & green chili is homemade and the breakfasts are huge and from memory oh so delicious. We had lunch this last time through. The hubby had the burrito with red & green chile and I had the cheeseburger. The burrito was HUGE. He loved it. The green was spicy and the red was not for a vegetarian. It was stuffed with delicious meat. I kept stealing bites from his plate. The burger had fresh veggies, lots of pickles, and the thin patty was nicely char-grilled. Bun was fresh. I had the fries with my burger. HUGE pile of them. The ladies who served us were super friendly, and we hit the place right after church on Sunday so the place was jumping. Even so, we didn't wait long for our food. The Brown stays on the list for a regular stop. Yum yum.

This is not your normative hotel experience... and for me that's what I want. I felt really welcomed and had fun interacting with a woman who "babysits" the hotel for the owner occasionally: Cindy. She's a hoot and incredibly likable. The hotel is quite old and served patrons of the railroad for ions. Little or no updates have been made in a hundred years as far as I can tell and I really adored that. Bathrooms are shared (many Americans really do freak out about this, my gosh)... but the bathrooms typically serve only two rooms and it seemed like Cindy made an effort to give patrons their own bathroom if possible. It was really peaceful and I slept better than I usually do. The big bonus was the claw-foot tub which really was delicious. The room was darn clean... the bathroom floor was... in between. A room for one person cost $50+tax and included whatever I wanted for breakfast the next morning... which was pretty darn good. I really felt like I was in a time machine and I LOVED it. Most fun I've had at a hotel in a long time. This alone was worth the stop in Springer, NM... if you like an authentic experience of an old town.

This hotel was a stop along our cross-country road trip. It turned out to be an oasis after a long day in the car. For the very reasonable price, you get a basic, but comfortable and clean room (many sharing a bathroom down the hall, but some with attached). The best parts were twofold: the awesome building and history itself, and the included breakfast. Most places the included breakfast is a lackluster collection of bad coffee and stale baked goods. Not here! You basically get to pick anything from their extensive menu. The huevos rancheros were a particular hit. If you are ever in eastern New Mexico and need a place to stay, we definitely recommend the Brown Hotel!

I would not recommend this place for anyone. The service is horrible and the hotel itself looks like a pack rat lives there. The food was disgusting and overpriced. The owner of this establishment has got to be one of the rudest people I have met in my life. I will never be back here or what I ever recommend this to anybody that is going to be staying in Springer New Mexico.
