We got the best ever ever chicken enchilladas, some carne adovada dish and a green chile cheeseburger and all 3 were great. What elevated the meal to a 5-star rating was the friendliness of the owner Chris as he went around to each table and talked with us. You could tell that he was just as friendly with the "regulars" as he was with the out-of-towners. The restrooms were quite clean too. We'd come back here again if we are ever in the Santa Fe area again.

The food was decent, the diner is tiny and not very comfortable. The prices were a little high considering what you got. Neither the red or green Chile were especially impressive. I wouldn't go back considering the other options in the area. I'd much rather hit Tia Sophia's or The Pantry Restaurant.

I feel bad that my experience was so far off the rest of the yelp community - especially when it is a mom & pop shop. I will start by admitting that you get plenty of food! I got three breakfast burritos to go - and maybe the experience would have been better if I had eaten in. I had my pooch with me so it was very convenient to order inside and then wait outside on the bench while everything was prepared. Now I LUV northern new mexico style food - so I thought I was definately in the right spot when I unwrapped our items when I got back to my hotel. Unfortunately there just wasn't a lot of flavor in the burritos nor did the Chili do much - other than add a bit of warmth. My wife and kid aren't as big of fans of the NM-style, so they didn't finish half of their meals but i couldn't really argue since it was just bland. My wife and I agreed the tastiest part was the pan-fried potatoes - and I am usually not that much of a potato guy.

Great breakfast! I had the "Wayne's Special". This is a high protein entree made from 1/3 lb of a organic sirloin patty, caramelized onions, Jack cheese and topped with red, green or rainbow chili. I had an order of pinto beans on the side. Everything was excellent. I will be back!

Sometimes as an adult you make poor decisions. Mine consisted of too many brews the night before. Dreading the morning drive to Santa Fe I had to endure, I decided I needed some comforting food inside my belly. I looked on good old trustworthy Yelp and I first headed off to a different place but drove the extra 4 minutes to Chris' Cafe. A small and quaint place. With not much seating all irrelevant to me. Because I am there for grub not ambiance. I ordered the biggest breakfast on the menu. Papas, beans, fritos, cheese, chile and eggs. It also came with your choice of meats. This is were my 5 stars come into play. I opted out for no meats. Just not in the mood. Most places are happy to accommodate and leave meats out. NEVER do they offer to add something in place. My waitress asked if I wanted veggies or spinach. She said mushrooms and I was sold. The red had a nice robust earthy taste that I so love and the green was spot on. When I make it up there again I will sure be ordering the Randolph again.
(5)Chris G.
Another great meal. My wife, daughter, sister and brother-in-law dropped in for lunch. Once again a great meal. My BIL is a chef. He was impressed at how the cooks are able to turn out such good food in such a small kitchen. Great job guys!
(5)Mike N.
I give 5 stars very begrudgingly. I have no problem giving this one 5 stars at all! I had the pork chops and eggs with green and red chili on the side. It was delicious. The place was packed, & I know why. You have a very nice business, Chris.
(5)Yasmaine F.
Best green chile chicken enchiladas ever ever added over easy eggs with blue corn enchiladas was fantastic. The chile had a nice hint spice and great flavor. On top of it, I had my eggs over easy it was fabulous! My boyfriend had the special which was all natural aged new York strip with eggs and potatoes. He loved the fresh flavor of the beef. He also got two side pancakes which filled the plates. He loved it as well.
(5)Dave P.
Tried Chris' Cafe for breakfast today. I had the huevos rancheros with both red and green. Liked it. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I preferred the red chili over the green but both were tasty. The red has a bit of heat but not overwhelming. Wife had the breakfast burrito and says 4-stars also
(4)Karin F.
I just had an amazing brunch of carne adovada (pork) topped with red chile and a perfectly cooked over easy egg served with perfectly seasoned whole pinto beans and hominy. Chris, his daughter Marissa and team are friendly and serving some kick butt food, too. I ordered green chile chicken to go for dinner...just asked Marissa to hook me up. Can't wait to try that! When in Santa Fe, stop here for unassuming, delicious northern New Mexico food. I'm lucky to be staying within walking distance.
(5)Linda S.
Consistently good food. You can order eggs any time of day. I've had the breakfast quesadilla with chili on the side and the Bronco (mushrooms, jack pepper cheese, & ham). The green chili tops it terrifically!
(5)Jason B.
My wife and I really liked this place and enjoyed a leisurely brunch before hitting the road back home. Good coffee and great food. I had the huevos rancheros, which was fantastic. The owner also stopped by and was a nice guy. Although I have no shortage of places to eat back home (In Las Vegas) I wish this place was here too, lol. When I revisit Santa Fe I'll be back here the first chance I get.
(5)Christina K.
We stopped on our way out of town. Great little place, friendly good service. The hueavos ranceros I had was delicious. I recommend the red sauce. Definitely worth coming in for
(5)Diana S.
This is a place that shoulder be a poster child for how to run a restaurant. The owner.really tries, people care and its friendly. Food is excellent and everyone is happy. Just come and relax.ita.crowded but for a reason.food reflects the care
(5)Sandy F.
Very good small diner hiding away in a strip mall. We had attentive service and a good breakfast. Eggs, pancakes, crispy bacon, English muffins and strong coffee. The entire table was quiet and munching. Reasonable price. Clean place. Will return soon.
(4)Laura L.
First time at Chris' Cafe! Won't be my last! Fabulous Bronco omelette with caramelized onions and smothered in red chile! Great staff!
(5)John L.
I had the green enchiladas and they were excellent. Service was great, people were friendly, they all genually seemed to care about the food. Will definitely come back.
(5)Celina J.
Mmmm. Great service, great food! Bacon cheeseburger and the chicken tacos with blue corn tortillas delicious and filling. I've had their Eggs Benedict before too. They were AMAZING. great place for anybody, especially locals.
(5)Harry S.
Stopped in for breakfast. Best service any where on our trip. Not fancy but great food. Highly recommended.
(5)Wendy A.
I have lived in Santa Fe for 5 years and this cafe has the best breakfast in town!!! Delicious blueberry pancakes, and great eggs benedict. Family owned and operated with mom, dad, son, and daughter working together and giving fantastic service.
(5)Jon T.
We know that we can get great breakfasts at Tecolote and The Pantry but decided to try something new so found little local Chris' Café. This place is really small, probably no more than seven or eight tables and most of them are for two. We nabbed the last table and ordered. I ordered carne adovada (again) with scrambled eggs. The carne here is unlike any other I have had recently. The meat is completely shredded. It had mild heat and good red chile flavor. It was slightly tangy and went great with the eggs. The eggs were pretty plain, so I asked for and received a cup of green chile to dump over the top. The green chile was a thickened sauce style. It also came with frijoles de la olla which were cooked right and very good. My fried potatoes were good standard fare, well seasoned. I enjoyed the meal, it felt home made, but would I not call it remarkable. Ms T's and Bro J's huevos rancheros were served over blue corn tortillas. The tortilla gets soggy, it needs to be partially fried. This is a decent little place that should not be written off. The people were really nice and eager to please. I would go back any time, I like the small place feel. The menu is not elaborate but they serve good solid food. Don't let the three stars keep you away. It is A-OK
(3)Ash K.
The place is in a nondescript mini strip mall, and the decor isn't much. There's about 10 tables in the place. You won't care when you taste the chicken enchiladas with an egg on top. They are really the "best ever ever". Overall, casual and friendly, and amazing enchiladas.
(5)Diana O.
Breakfast was awesome! Had the huevos rancheros Christmas, and my husband had the carne adovada burrito Christmas! The chile sauces had a great flavor and not too spicy.
(5)Ben C.
Amazing breakfast burritos! Friendly service and everything you expect from a great restaurant! Go here for the best food in Santa fe!
(5)Lynda M.
Checked out Yelp to find the closest New Mexican cafe for breakfast Sunday am. Chris'Cafe was fairly close and the reviews sounded like what we were looking for . Was nearly full at 10:00 of mostly locals. It is a clean family owned cafe in a strip mall location. We decided on the breakfast carne asada burrito with Christmas chilies. It came with good pinto beans and breakfast potatoes . Was delicious but was so big we both had to box up about half. The guys next to us were enjoying their usual eggs Benedict. Looked great. Will have to try that next! Highly recommend this for a hearty breakfast or lunch!!!
(4)Christine R.
A little hole in the wall in a strip mall on Cerrillos Road.....step inside and you'll be wonderfully happy you did....great friendly service, very accommodating to my vegetarian tastes. My husband had their carne adovada burrito smothered in Christmas (red & green) chili which he indicated was excellent & I had a deliciously fresh veggie omelet....the side pintos were very fresh & great too! Chris came out to take our order and helped with recommendations....they seemed willing to accommodate anyone's specific cuisine preferences....we couldn't have felt more welcome....highly recommend this place and we will be back....
(5)Jessica M.
We came here for brunch while we were on vacation. It was just as great as the yelp reviews suggested. We ordered the best ever ever chicken enchiladas (and yes they were probably the best ever ever) and a breakfast burrito. Both were delicious. The red and green chiles were quite tasty--and apparently they use rice flour which gave them a nice flavor and consistency. The service was also great--it's clear they care about their customers. Awesome place overall. If we're ever back in Santa Fe, we will be sure to return!
(5)Matt L.
Slap yo' Mamma good Green chile. Small restaurant that is BIG on flavor. The Christmas chile is quite a treat.
(5)Jaquie D.
This lil place is nice, reasonable and the food was great. The staff was really friendly, they welcomed us and we felt like family
(5)Natalie G.
Pleasantly surprised when fellow yelpers delivered! It was NYE and I had one hungry and grumpy boyfriend. I found one place I thought we would enjoy but when I called, they stated it was an hour until they could seat a party of two. So I jumped on yelp, found the closest breakfast place and had the BF whip a quick right to get into the parking lot of Chris' Cafe. He claimed he didn't care if he ate gravel... He was just "starving" (but I know if he is "starving" and eats something he didn't really like... Oh heck... Now I've really woken the sleeping bear). So we walked in and I hoped for the best. It took about 30 seconds for him to see the food on the kitchen window and the stack of pancakes being enjoyed by a fellow customer until finally, a smile cracked on the BFs face. I knew he was a happy camper. Sure enough.... BETTER THAN EXPECTED. It's was close to noon so I got their famous enchiladas... I LOVED THEM... And he got a breakfast plate with an extra pancake on the side. And let me tell you.... Life went on without a grumpy BF because of Chris' Cafe. Small inside but I appreciate small town businesses... We were happy to give them business. Staff was so sweet and attentive. No complaints... Not one! Enjoy!
(5)Joel Y.
I've had several excellent breakfasts and a few lunches at Chris'. The owner is usually there and always asks how the meal came out. I've mainly had breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros with red chile. The enchiladas with beef and red or chicken and green are very good although I've only had a taste of the latter. The style of the food and restaurant is a little more Albuquerque than Santa Fe which is a plus in my book. The place is small, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is visible and everyone is friendly. I'm guessing this place may expand or move to a larger location someday soon although we've only had to wait for a table briefly.
(5)Victoria J.
I really wanted to like this place because I am sick of same breakfast places in Santa Fe. I chose this restaurant based on the reviews. Don't know what happened here for us because we had lousy service. Never refilled drinks, no silverware, slow service getting drink order. Sat there waiting for check (we finally got up and stood waiting at front to pay) Food was good but not great. The cramped seating was so uncomfortable. There's one waitress who was working very hard but she was unable to kept up with everybody. The owner seemed very friendly and concerned to keep everyone happy. He even came out to talk to a lady who sent her eggs back to make sure she was happy. I just wish this experience had been better for us.
(2)Brod K.
You need to eat here!! Great home style New Mexican kitchen and wonderful staff. Best food ever... ever!
(5)Dave S.
Great small cafe! The crowded room was covered by the owner and one very busy waitress. Our coffee cups never ran dry. Service was quick and accurate, and friendly! Yummy New Mexico fare, with fresh, lovingly prepared ingredients. Highly recommended.
(5)Deborah S.
Killer entrees, local New Mexican and creative fare- under $10 Chicken enchilada best ever... Ever!! Chris and Larry rock!
(5)Bill M.
Love the friendly atmosphere and GREAT Food. Came here the day after Christmas without seeing other positive reviews and could not have been happier. Chris really cares; everything is fresh; sauces are excellent. Clean restrooms. A little hard to find and not the cutest part of town. (Near Penske truck rental on the 'drag'.) If you want REAL good food and REAL friendliness, try Chris's.
(5)Nicola M.
While in Santa Fe, we came for lunch one day and loved it so much, we came back for breakfast the next morning. Amazing food, great people, and lovely atmosphere!!
(5)Cathy H.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. The morning we were there they were not yet overwhelmed with business. The food was exceptional served with a smile and friendly conversation from the owners daughter. We felt lucky to have found this place.
(5)Vicki L.
A hidden gem! Chris puts his heart and soul into this place and it's reflected in the food, service and staff.
(5)Meg F.
The food here is delicious, traditional New Mexican food. Easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to in Santa Fe. The service is superb and the food is perfect. Try both red and green, they do it right!
(5)Marilyn B.
Great place frequented by locals and tourists. Only seven tables, so plan to wait. Chris is out there cooking, serving, and mixing with the customers. Try the jalapeno bacon.
(3)Gloria S.
A first time visitor to Santa Fe and I had been dissatisfied with other restaurant choices. I yelped nearby restaurants snd stumbled upon Chris' s Cafe. Absolutely fantastic. I had bario omelette with green Chile. Just enough sauce to compliment the omelette rather than hide. Potatoes had enough crisp and soft. Best meal of our visit. Place is small and it got full quick. Hubs got carne adovada. He was happy! Great smoky flavor to it.
(4)Shalee S.
Got the chicken enchilada, the best ever ever. It really was wonderful. The staff was great and super friendly to me since I was eating alone. Recommend it to someone just stopping through Santa Fe
(4)John T.
The green chili cheese omelette was great.
(4)Eb D.
Stopped in on a whim while the car was in the shop. We had an excellent breakfast. All the ingredients were very fresh, and one of the better pancakes I've ever had. Great little hole in wall joint, I would definitely recommend it over the IHOP up the road.
(5)Paul S.
Impromptu breakfast after driving by it for a year and saying...I've got to try that place! Great service, diverse New Mexican menu, laid back atmosphere, clean and neat, friendly staff and got to meet and gab with Chris...very nice fellow. Wife had French toast, I had breakfast burrito, we both had coffee. Food was top notch! I'll have to Bo back and check out other stuff but based on our breakfast, I would definitely recommend it. Clearly they know what they are doing and I got a big smile from the cook with my compliment. Really nice experience. Also, good roomy parking area with easy access to Cerrillos Road. I think you'll like it, we did.
(4)J A.
Stopped by for a quick breakfast, smaller then expected and devoid of any atmosphere. Food was OK, but pricey.
(3)Robert F.
I live in Seattle, but travel back to Santa Fe at least once a year for two reasons... 1. to visit my mom, and 2. to get my chile fix. Not necessarily in that order, they're both equally important...(that's a complete lie, Mom's more important than chile)! I'm a big fan of Posa's breakfast burritos, and Chris' Cafe makes a delicious smothered alternative. Both the red and green chile were tasty and spicy, but not obnoxiously spicy. Goldilocks spicy. Just right. Service was decent, coffee was good, getting our food took a couple of minutes too long but not worth complaining about. I had my first Jalapeno Bacon experience here, and I must say, it's freaking delicious! Ambiance is a little lacking, some music or a little liberal talk radio would've been welcome, but certainly not a requirement. Small dining area, maximum 30 people. Chris makes some really tasty food, worth checking out. I shall return!
(4)Donny A.
Best food and service in the area. The chicken enchilada dish is to die for! A gem to stop at..... Behind the Penske Truck rental on Cerrillos!!
(5)Chick H.
This was the best breakfast burrito I have ever had in my life. Very good potatoes, very nice green and red chiles, fresh pillowy tortillas.
(5)Bryan B.
My colleague and I found this place using Yelp. It is very unassuming, however, it has good food and great service. the owner "Chris" worked at another local favorite before opening his own place! Give it a try and I think you will like it too!
(4)Mike B.
This place was GREAT, not only was the food good but service and flavor of the place was excellent.
(5)Liz O.
We were in from out of town and wanted to find a good local place, and did we ever! My favorite meals are breakfast and Mexican-score! The Route 66 omelette has great green chili and their carne adovado was perfectly spicy! The coffee was good too, and their flour tortillas were some of the best I've ever had! It is a smaller cafe, and you have to look for it or you might miss it.
(4)Richard R.
Great chicken burrito - get the green chile, just the right amount of heat.
(5)Allison B.
Modest furnishings but good food. The owner was very nice/friendly. We ordered the breakfast quesadilla and a blueberry pancake with a side of jalapeño bacon. Delicious!
(4)Stu T.
The coffee here is outstanding very old school, yes the coffee. The adovada is a must with everything , in fact get a sample scoop and end up with it on your main dish. Good place if your staying at the local hotels
(3)Katie L.
Without a doubt, the best omelet I've had in my life! This place is a real gem & Chris and his staff are great. When Chris wasn't in the back cooking, he's out in the seating area chatting with guests. Awesome place & real, soulful food. Will definitely be back with friends on my next trip to Santa Fe!
(5)Abby W.
Wow! The food was delicious!! Mom had the "ever, ever" chicken enchiladas! FAB!!! Fairly spicy so if you're wimp, you'd better try what I had. The oven roasted chicken salad sandwich with malt vinegar chips! OMG, the chips... Hard to describe. Not harsh and vinegary but smooth and slightly sweet. Yummo!! Must try!! Thanx, Yelpers for helping me find this place!!
(5)Val N.
My favorite new place for breakfast! Everything is good (especially the breakfast burritos) and the servers are nice!
(5)Sara D.
We were looking for a good place to get dinner in Santa Fe that wasn't too "Santa Fe" when I stumbled across the review of Chris' Cafe on Trip Advisor. We were very happy. I had the bean and potato burrito and everyone else had the "Best Chicken Enchiladas Ever...Ever". Everything was very tasty and the staff was friendly and welcoming. All in all, a good experience. The menu is limited but, it's better to make a few things well than, many things mediocre.
(4)Scott J.
What a great find for best breakfast in Santa Fe! Huevos Rancheros and California Eggs Benedict were fabulous. All the food is fresh, hand-made and cooked to perfection by a great chef. It's a down-home place where they know the guests by name and both the locals and staff are equally friendly to first time visitors. Chris himself was at the grill and has some great stories about being a chef in Santa Fe. The location is along the Cerrillos Rd strip where there are plenty of nearby hotels and national chain restaurants. Dont' pass by Chris' on your way to IHOP or some other more-of-the-same restaurant. It can be tough to see, but look for all the yellow Penske rental trucks - Chris' is right next door. Don't expect fancy up-scale decor or a lot of tables - this is a real place for real people who want real food. Will definitely come back whenever I'm in Santa Fe.
(5)Deborah L.
This is a great breakfast place. Very small only about 6 tables but clean and the service was great and the food wonderful. The omelet we shared was more than enough for 2 people. The French toast made with cinnamon swirl bread was perfect. Definitely worth stopping in.
(4)Gerald R.
We stayed in the RV Park behind Chris' Cafe. Unfortunately, we only got to eat there on our last morning in Santa Fe. From the moment we walked into the Chris' we knew we made a good decision. Chris and his daughter greeted us and made us feel right at home. For starters the coffee was excellent and my wife even found her favorite herbal tea. We both opted for Greek Omelets. While we waited for our orders we had great conversation with the owner. The omelets were delicious, cooked in olive oil and not greasy. The potatoes were also freshly cut and cooked just the way we liked them. There are many other items on the menu we plan to try on our next visit to Santa Fe.
(5)Linda M.
OMG YUMMY ! Great food !! If you are visiting Santa Fe and want REAL New Mexican food check this place out.

First breakfast visiting Santa Fe. Home run! Outstanding Heuvos Rancheros, so nice and spicy. The Eggs Benedict were prepared perfectly and very tasty. All this plus the service was top notch - all staff were super friendly. A small business doing it right and deserves to be supported. Kudos!
(5)Donny A.

This place just happened to catch my eye as it is located in an awkward kind of building. There are only about 8 tables here so we were lucky to find a seat on arrival. The staff was super friendly and very helpful toward everyone else as well. I woulda liked to have had more of a breakfast option. I ordered a hot cake ( as big as the plate ) with a side of two eggs, it was good.
(4)Vicki S.
Great little breakfast cafe. Come hungry leave stuffed. Reasonably priced, fabulous staff. The fab food makes up for the lack of decor. We had the Pork Chops and the Best Ever Chicken Enchilada with an Egg...Both excellent. Two thumbs up.
(5)Ed M.
Awesome breakfast second time here in two years traveling through definitely stop and try it out
(5)Holly D.
I like coming to Chris's cafe. He and his staff are friendly and have made a point to chat with us when we eat there. It's pleasant and relaxed. You should try the Ghetto Relleno! It's not on the menu (yet), but it's good standard NM food. However, they inserted a fluffy pancake that is subtly sweet and delightful! I've found that I much prefer coming here for breakfast & brunch, as our choices of a) reasonably priced, b) open before 11:00am and c) no waiting 45 minutes+ just to be seated are extremely limited in Santa Fe. (Seriously, waiting that long for seats/food has turned me off to breakfast most weekends so this is refreshing) Also, the food is quality and it leaves happy feelings in my tummy. The place itself is a little hidden...think between Pawn City and The Lofts on Cerrillos, situated in a parking lot usually full of yellow moving trucks. Look for it.
(5)Matt A.
Loved it. He made me 3 tacos: blue corn tortillas with beans, avocado, pico and hot sauce. That is like my dream breakfast and I love that he allowed a custom order. I was just passing through but I look forward to stopping here again.
(5)Lynn J.
Excellent breakfast/brunch! We'll be back to try the lunch menu! Great attentive service and very tasty food! Try the Eggs Benedict or CA omelet for sure!
(5)Lisa R.
Awesome breakfast. Great staff. Try the carne adovada. If you like a kick start you won't be disappointed !!!!!
(5)Andrew R.
Very good, solid breakfast, clean, fresh ingredients. The staff could not be more friendly and attentive. Tried the Chicken Enchilada (they say best ever) with egg. Not the best ever but very good. I still think Red Enchilada farther up the street wins for this dish. The wife had the carne adovada which was very good but again, not the best in town. Could use more spice and a bit more heat but very solid. Really fun mom and pop interior. Great menu with many options I'd like to go back and try. So I wasn't 'blown away' but the staff was so great and what we ate was more than good enough that I'd go back again, especially when I'm in that part of town. You should certainly give it a try.
(4)Jim J.
Green chili sauce was the best. Pancakes are huge. Good prices. Would visit again.
(4)Dawn A.
It was between Chris's and another breakfast place. The other had a 45 Minute wait. According to previous reviews Chris's would have a similar wait. Nope! We walked in and had not even gotten inside the door when the wait staff greeted us! Small place, looks like a mom and pop shop. The menu was large enough to please us and our order was taken within 8 mins of sitting and getting our diet cokes. Our food arrived literally hot off the grill and looking yummy as ever. I had the two egg breakfast my daughter had the breakfast burrito. Both we tasty and filling. The potatoes are fantastic and grilled up with a hint of garlic. The red sauce my daughter loved. The only downside and this bears nothing on Chris's cafe is that it's next to a Ryder truck rental place and the trucks take up a lot of the parking lot out by street, So follow the yelp directions and you will find this gem!
(5)Pam M.
We came in for lunch. Greeted by the owner who was friendly and chatting with another table. The waitress was the owners daughter and was friendly and quick. She has happy to share all the gluten-free & dairy-free options. I was so happy that I could safely eat both the red sauce and green chile sauce. I had some yummy chicken enchiladas with a fried egg and Christmas sauce. The food came out quickly. The sauce was flavorful but not super spicy. This was good for me since my food was generously smothered. My heat-seeking hubby was disappointed in the spice level. Good options for kids meals and they liked that they could have breakfast for lunch. My 6yo daughter loved her burrito and would've eaten more (she cleaned her plate).

Not one! Enjoy!

(4)Jim J.
Green chili sauce was the best. Pancakes are huge. Good prices. Would visit again.

(4)Abby W.
(5)Chris T.
Kudos!
(5)Dawn A.

(2)Hershel L.
(5)Pamela F.
(5)David L.
(5)Jackie D.
The food was decent, the diner is tiny and not very comfortable. The prices were a little high considering what you got. Neither the red or green Chile were especially impressive. I wouldn't go back considering the other options in the area. I'd much rather hit Tia Sophia's or The Pantry Restaurant.
(3)Dave P.
