If you love coffee, this place is a must! Friendly waitstaff, knowledgeable barista's relaxing atmosphere during the day and good open mic nights on Friday nights.

First of all, this place is nestled in a little shopping center. The entrance driveway is almost across from Burro Lane. I missed it the first time I drove past because I was on a scooter and trying not to get runover by traffic. It's very nice inside. There's a fireplace in the room. Not sure if it works. If it does, this would be a GREAT place to keep warm during the colder months. Everyone is very friendly. They also show movies in one of the rooms. Nice outdoor patio area too. Bonus for the guys: lots of hottie girls seem to frequent this place. 'Cause that's important for us guys when getting wired on caffeine. Speaking of wired...they have a desktop computer that's available to rent. They also have free wi-fi with a very strong signal. They coffee is as you would expect and the cookies are deee-licious. I didn't try any of the sandwiches and other menu items. I would definitely come back to this place!

This is what I look for in a coffee shop! I ordered a caramel macchiato and chocolate chip cookie and both were super delicious! Friendly service. Comfy chairs. Eclectic decor, local art (I LOVE when a restaurant/shop has good local art) and a fire place (gas) makes it more unique than your average coffee shop. My husband and I sat and played chess for about an hour. Parking was kind of a pain though, due to sharing the lot with other businesses. My only complaint...if I had to complain.

I had been there a couple of weeks ago n had lunch which was wonderful. With my lunch I had an oatmeal cranberry cookie which is possibly the best oatmeal cookie I'd ever had so on our way out we stopped and purchased several for later on. This past Saturday I had been telling my family how yummy these cookies were n stopped n as we were heading home to have for the next day. When I told the clerk I wanted six (there were about a dozen n the case) of each of the four kinds she had she informed me that she couldn't sell me the oatmeal cookies. I asked her why n she said that her "movie group" was coming n and that was their favorite n it wouldn't leAve enough for them! I was floored n said so I can't have the oatmeal but I can have the rest n she said yes. So I told her no thank u n left! What a shame to loose a $20 sale n customer simply because I wasn't a regular. So a little heads up if your not a "regular" don't expect to buy any oatmeal cranberry cookies if it's Saturday night n there are only a dozen in the case! I would think being n the service business you'd want to serve your customers that r there right now n not the ones that might b coming n later!

This is a nice alternative to being told by your dumpy motel that you missed breakfast. I had creme brûlée French toast. 'twas yummy!

Very relaxing atmosphere it's beautiful that you can sit there and read a book with warm coffee overlooking the creek. I only ordered coffee and a pastry for my family since we had just ate but it was surprisingly cheap and their house blends were very good. Staff really friendly. I intend to stop by here for some food or a beer in the future

Great place to hang out, eat, and have a conversation with friends. This place is huge and relatively new. Great coffee and selection of bakery items.

The new location is awesome! I think they have 4 decks, but there may be another hidden somewhere, who knows? And the decks face the river- just gorgeous! Now about the food, which has always been great. It's even better than before. They have new menu items in addition to the staples they had before (i.e., quiche). It seems you get more for your money now, but that could be my imagination... Anyway, great place for coffee, tea, wine, food, hanging out, wi-fi, you name it. And now, plenty of space to do it.

This is a cute, but large coffee house that also serves beer, wine, home made sorbet, and home made pastries. It's charm is that they built this to overlook the Rio Ruidoso river. There is quite a bit of indoor seating, as well as a covered patio, and 2 levels of open air seating which look over the River. Therebis no table service, so everything has to be ordered at the counter, which results in long lines. We came in with 6 people, which took a bit of time. They have 2 registers, but for some reason, only had one open. They need to have more people working the registers so that the lines can move a bit more quickly.

The patio here is pure bliss with the river running the business. Take the patio stairs down for more seating. We had the breve and macchiato and they were great. I haven't eaten here but my family said their food was great. The soup of the day-loaded potato looked amazing.

This is a great coffee house, the food is fresh and delicious. We tried five dishes and all were great tasting. The place is cozy, trendy, a bit hip and absolutely clean. Vegan, gluten free, almond n soy milk options!! This saved my day as a vegetarian. Couldn't find anything good anywhere else in Ruidoso. This is definitely someplace u must try especially for breakfast.

Sacred Grounds is the best coffee in Ruidoso. Not only do they take great pride in the quality of their beans (which they roast in house) but they have excellent customer service, and incredible food :-). The new location is much bigger, with lots of places to sit, plenty of outlets for computers, and a nice environment to visit or study. The three outdoor patios over look the river and give you the allusion you've just stepped out of town. It's wonderful :-).

We loved this placed. My family and I were in town for a week. We found this place on the second to the last day. Great place to eat, drink, hangout. My wife, kids, and I had dinner and played a board game that we brought with us. Plenty of seating so we did not feel rushed to move along. They have a great selection of loose leaf teas that they brew to order. They were happy to split an Italian soda into two glasses for my kids and provided plenty of whip cream for each. We loved this place so much we went back for breakfast the next morning before leaving town. Everything was delicious and the service was great. My only constructive criticism would be that I wish they had put my Lox & Bagel together for me. The little pre-sealed container of cream cheese made it all seem cheap, and by the time I got the cream cheese spread on and everything else on my bagel the bagel was cold.

Just a quick stop on on the way out of town. Can only leave a review for our coffee. The atmosphere was great while we waited, but the "iced americano's" we ordered tasted like water with a tiny bit of coffee. We went back and they added more coffee to it, but it didn't really change it. Also they forgot to punch our number in when our order was up because they sat at the counter before we knew they were ready for a good 10 minutes. Think we will stick to Starbucks after all. The menu did look appealing food wise. May need to try some quiche next time we're in town.

This place has some beautiful patio. I had the tomato basil soup and some tea. Unfortunately, my phone's battery ran out so I was unable to take some photos of the beautiful patios. The tomato soup was so good, this place will be a stop I have to every time I am here at Ruidoso. The vibe, decor and the view here are all outstanding. What would have made this a 5 star is attentive customer service from the ladies at the counter.

  • Wendy M.

Had heard great things from coworkers about the food, but went so hubby could get a white mocha. Looks like a cool place... Had live music tonight, so was more than a little loud... Which is fine, however, they call themselves a coffee shop and the lady posting as a barista had no idea how many shots of espresso was in their large lattes until reminded... Then when we got the $6.40 latte, it was 50% foam (a dry cappuccino, not a latte) and the shots weren't pulled right. The vibe isn't coffee, it's beer, wine, bar. Obviously that's where their focus is, so if you want cafe vibe, not this place. The baked goods looked interesting and varied, but the coffee to go with it, nope. I hear Cornerstone Bakery rocks. That will be next trip.

If you're just stopping by in town, or staying for a couple of days then you should definently stop by. The atmosphere is wonderful. If you plan on going I recommend that you go early in the morning. The weather is great, you can sit outside on a back porch enjoying the creek running threw the backyard. It's tranquil. The food is a bit pricey for what you get but its fresh, and delicious!

Great coffee house, one of the best I have been in world wide. Staff is pleasant and the new location fantastic. We enjoy the fresh baked goods, the steel grind oatmeal and other options. Their house coffee (free refills) is quite good and I love the vanilla sugar. Their other coffee drinks are more tasty although similarly priced as that global Seattle chain. Nothing better than a hot coffee, checking email whilst sitting on a desk listening to the gurgling sound of the rio ruidoso....

  • Rick G.

wonderful place, helpful staff and a light but unique menu. WIfe had the fruit parfait and I had veg. quiche. The house coffees are great and you do serve your self. THere is a nice dining area in the back but we were around the front. It should be mentioned that the internet was outstanding for a public building.

  • Ronald W.

Great independent coffeehouse. Can't beat $1 in house coffee with unlimited refills! The other coffee and tea drinks are priced about the same as Starbucks down the block, but support these local folks who are invested in the community! The views from any level of the deck are beautiful with Rio Ruidoso running below. So peaceful. Amazing place to unwind. Only caution I have to offer is with the freshly prepared food (not the bakery items). They're hit and miss.

Love this place. Staff is typically very friendly, and a nice, typical coffee house atmosphere. The food and drinks are also very good. I love going on Friday evenings to listen to the open mic with my friends. It starts at 6 o'clock pm and many talented artist come and jam a while. :)

  • Amanda D.

My husband and I went here for breakfast on our mini vacation last week, they have a great selection of coffee and tea, as well as a tasty breakfast selection. My only complaint would be that it took quite a long time to get our food, I only ordered a muffin and my husband ordered something that needed to be warmed up (I think they must use the oven to warm things up rather than a microwave). Overall, great atmosphere and on a cool, beautiful morning, their outdoor patio is the perfect place to be!

Latte and side spinach salad. See pic of the colorful salad. Colorful and delishious. Ideal coffee shop with perfect food choices. Homemade quiches wraps salads as well as expected cookies and sweets. Beats Starbucks hands down!

Loved the gluten-free sandwich options; the veggie version with the feta spread is excellent. And I love that the business is so successful it's opening in a new, expanded location nearby - later this summer, we hope.

Had the worst service I have ever encountered in Ruidoso. Been coming here 25 years and to Sacred Grounds since they opened in old location. Joelee was making the coffee this day and it took her 30 minutes to make two drinks. I asked her after 20 minutes and she was frustrated with me. When they were finally done at 30 I told her that was a long time to wait for coffee. We had already eaten our meal and were just standing at the machine with many other folks waiting on the specialty coffees. Not one person working there cared that the wait was so long. Joelee was so mad that I said that she told me to go to Starbucks next time. She said she could only make one coffee at at time. This place is a joke if they cannot keep up with the cappucinos on a busy weekend morning. They are in serious trouble if she continues at the machine. She was distracted and VERY slow. Also, it was Sunday which means a lot of people are leaving town and catching flights. We were on a bit of a time schedule. I don't appreciate being talked to so nasty from one of their employees. Every time we are in Ruidoso (every year) we frequent this place a number of times. This was our 4th time this week. Honestly though I have never been treated so poorly. I will not come back. I will in fact go to Starbucks just down the street.

My family and I come every summer to RUIDOSO and have made it to sacred grounds multiply times throughout our two week trips! Even to their old location, but the new location is BEAUTIFUL, I'm giving it only three stars because the food is AMAZING everything I got was delicious, BUT the first day we came we ordered a plain bagel and plain cream cheese, a blueberry sour cream muffin, and a cranberry muffin, our buzzer FINALLY went off and all there was, was the bagel, I told them were missing three things, they said ok umm sorry we'll get that and bring it to you! So then we went to the next day and wanted appetizers so we asked the cashier what was in the cowboy cavier and he said "I'm not the person to ask that question, I don't know" my mom and I looked at each other like hmm well let's try it! Then our buzzer goes off to get our food and I said were missing the cowboy cavier and she goes, "we're actually out of that!" Well maybe your cashier should know that? Lol then there was a hair in our food! I only keep going back because I love the food! But the third day I went my husband and daughter went, we ordered a chicken caesar wrap and White cheddar pablano soup, and cookies we waited about 15 min and I said I'm going to go check on our food, it was sitting on the counter, my buzzer NEVER went off and my soup was cold so she warmed it up again in the microwave and they forgot the cookies no one apologized but she did help me bring out food down and was nice! Like I said the food was AMAZING so that's what keeps me coming back AND the new building is beautiful, sitting outside by the river makes me wanna go rafting! I'll still go back but hopefully one day the customer service well be back to the same as the old building!

Absolutely gorgeous new building. I was a little disappointed in the creme brûlée French toast. Just seemed like French toast to me and was a little dry. I guess my expectations got the better of me with such a decadent name. I love their mug selection and always look forward to checking out the new merchandise. Have gotten several cute favorites here. I would love it if they were open later in the evening. I do appreciate their suggestion box at the new location and that it is always immaculately clean. Their cinnamon rolls are not particularly amazing, but the cranberry orange walnut bread makes up for it. Oh, and the new parking lot is a bit of a nightmare if you have a low car!

Sacred Grounds has finally moved to its new location right at the edge of midtown. It's an enormous place--thankfully, since often it was hard to find a place to sit at their old location. There is outdoor seating, multiple rooms filled with tables and bartables, and a great view of the pines. I've never had a complaint about the food, but I could take it or leave it. It is all nice and clean and prepared fresh. Their desserts are often outstanding. They have a huge selection of tea and good coffee. Not a fan of their chai. If you were looking for a place to just hang out close to midtown, get some work done, read, or visit with friends it was between them and Starbucks--both of which were often packed at peak hours. With their new location and great seating options, this is now the only place I want to go to spend time. It's just too bad they aren't open later. It's also good to note that on multiple occasions the wifi has been intolerably slow. Both when the place is packed and when there's nobody there, it is almost impossible to get any work done on my laptop. I took off one star for that.

Friendly staff, great coffee, and comfortable ambience - lots of locals hang out here and they also sell local art work. Prices are reasonable too. I've been here three times this week and hope to be back soon.

Before heading out if town I had to stop at the most highly touted coffee shop in Ruidoso. ( according to Yelp) I will admit that the caramel latte was very nice way to start my day and I also ordered 2 homemade muffins... The pecan cinnamon muffin and the cranberry walnut muffin. Now to me a muffin has never blown me away, but they were of very good quality. The muffins are more on the dry end than on the moist end if that's your cup of tea ( no pun intended). I may go back one of these days if I find myself in Ruidoso again. The barista says he is the best in the city so put him to the test, and to all the other barista's in Ruidoso the bar is now set.

Beautiful building with various indoor/outdoor seating areas each with fantastic views. The ambiance was welcoming and relaxing. We ordered coffee, monk's blend tea and shared a green chile chicken scone. The tea selection was pretty good, the coffee was smooth and delicious, the scone was tasty and moist, Service was great and staff members were friendly. Highly recommended!

I LOVE sacred grounds!! This place is awesome, they have the best baked goods in town, and I love that they are baked right there in the restaurant. (LOVE the blueberry muffins... and they're HUGE!) The staff is all very friendly and cool, no one is ever rude. They have excellent wraps and sandwiches, as well as great quiches!! And I think it's really wonderful that they have open mic night on Friday's, it really brings some culture to Ruidoso. Keep it up!!

Awesome coffee and even better tea! Although I didn't care for the bread on my roast beef sandwich, as it was too hard, the experience was lovely and we will be back again soon! Ditch the corporate crap that invaded ruidoso and check out this locally owned cafe. They roast their coffee in house, and I noticed a nice array of burlap accessories, I assume from the raw coffee beans they bring in. Either way. Pretty cool!

What an adorable coffee shop! Such a nice chill spot to enjoy a delicious drink with friends. The atmosphere is great, and so is the coffee. I went with 2 friends, and we each got something different and loved it (hot chai latte, chai latte frappe, and iced coffee). They also have lots of cute bags, ceramic coffee mugs, travel mugs, etc... Definitely would recommend stopping in!

Awesome, cozy coffee shop / restaurant - with full menu and a great atmosphere. I had a caramel macchiato (best I've ever had), and my hubby had a latte and muffin and both were scrumptious! Lots of indoor seating, quiet nooks, outdoor seating, free wi-fi, and sweet staff. If you're ever in Ruidoso, this is a must, and you may just end up spending your entire vacation here :)!!

What a gem in Ruidoso, New Mexico!!! The owners are super people! Having opened only a short two months ago, this place is the bomb!!! Really good coffee, nice local hangout, terrific quality food like turkey wraps, salads, fresh cinnamon rolls, homemade cookies, etc. On Thursday nights, this place turns into a jazz joint. Regular Kevin Gallaugher is an excellent blues guitarist. On this particular night, we were treated to Nicki Parrott, jazz bassist, who would be the headliner at the Roswell Jazz Festival! What an ensemble of fine musicians!!!!!!!!! Thanks Sacred Grounds for one of the most memorable evenings of my vacation. :-) Yelp 365 Challenge: 58/365

This was a great find! The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere is cozy, the sandwiches are tasty, and the bakery items are wonderful. Add to that excellent and fast service and this place is almost perfect. The one thing that I didn't like was that a couple times, two of the counter help turned their backs to the dining area, sang something, and banged on something with sticks of some sort. (Since their backs were towards us, we couldn't see what they were doing - just heard it. It was really annoying and I'd really like to give the place 4.5 because of this.

Went here with my grandson for coffee due to the reviews I read on yelp. I was not lead astray. I ended up having the spinach and Parmesan quiche. It was absolutely fabulous.....rich, buttery, velvety smooth and delicious. The salad and house made dressing was very good as well. Peanut butter cookie was as good as any I have ever had. I will be returning every day that I am here.

loved this little coffee shop. It had everything I wanted out of a place I chose to sit and study on a beautiful Saturday afternoon: very friendly staff, delicious lattes, quiche, pastries, free wifi, and a liquor license (though I did not partake). The service was definitely a stand-out. The three ladies who handled my multiple orders during the course of my 3 hour study session were extremely personable. Both the quality of the food and the drinks were also excellent; I could have stayed there all day!

Great Coffee House! Sacred Grounds is Awesome! I love this place. Nestled in beautiful small town Ruidoso...the place has it all. Wi-Fi, great coffee, absolute fabulous quiche, tasty homemade soup, wonderful muffins, Sugar in the Raw, and the Owner Kirsten is absolutely Outstanding! She takes pride in her craft as an owner/operator, with homemade creations, family recipes, and her own unique twist. She is warm, funny, sarcastic, and a local favorite. Stop in and say hello. My favorite Fist Stop while in Ruidoso!

Best place ever. Coffee was excellent. The cookies are to die for and the staff was the best. They remembered me after only twice being there. Can't wait to try a meal there. Will definitely visit when we are in town next.

A group of about ten of us trooped in last Tuesday morning, eager to grab some coffee (on our boss, heh heh) and plan out the future of the community garden at the USFS Ranger Station. We unfortunately took up the entirety of the front of the restaurant (and at one point a certain male took a business call in the woman's bathroom, much to the chagrin of the owner/barista) but the staff was super patient with everyone. They use Lavazza coffee and I can't express how happy this made me. The food sounded good as well, but I wasn't devious enough to grab some on the boss's bill. I watched one of the ladies making cookies (as I could not pay attention to what was going on), and I am intent on visiting Sacred Grounds again based on how moist and grandmotherly they looked.

As I think about what I would like to say, it sounds just like all the rest. Greats in the areas of coffee, quiche, sandwiches, wine, staff, owners, wifi, and..., and.....! I was there for breakfast one morning. Had to deal with a business matter so I took my hearing aid out and plugged in my phone earbuds. Went on to work, realized that my hearing aid was missing. When I told the counter crew of my problem, everyone left their station to search. While my hearing aid was not in Sacred Grounds, the episode had a happy ending. But I will always be grateful to everyone there for their genuine concern.

Fantastic, charming little coffee shop! As a coffee aficionado, it's important to me that a coffee shop has delicious coffee, pastries, and nice employees. On my way from Lubbock to El Paso I stopped in Ruidoso and tried Sacred Grounds as I had read rave reviews. The reviews, completely true. The two guys working were also as nice and as helpful as possible. Didn't have any of the menu items but people around me did, and it looked heavenly. The ambiance and decor is also relaxing//trendy. Being from El Paso I can tell you that we are lacking great coffee shops and so it's nice to know there is one worth driving to a couple of hours up the road!

I moved here from San Diego and we have a restaurant called Naked Cafe. This is the closest to my favorite restaurant that I have found since moving here. I love the oatmeal and fresh fruit. The counter staff is great and the atmosphere is fantastic!!! love it.

Outstanding setting with 2 decks overlooking a stream. Very relaxing sitting outside and listening to the babbling brook. Sacred Grounds has delicious food as well as yummy coffee drinks and bakery items. We had chicken wings that were not dry at all with yummy green goodness dressing. Also had white cheddar poblano soup, also delicious, along with very fresh Greek salad and stuffed portabello mushroom. Amy, the manager was terrific and very helpful as we were quite tired after a busy day sightseeing.

Disappointed to say the least. First off, this coffee & tea house doesn't brew their own ice tea, it's from a machine by the coke machine. I ordered the blintz & my husband ordered oatmeal, my food came out long beg his, in fact I was finished before his came out & I don't think they even started his until I asked about it. I guess if you come for the coffee it's probably good but we came for the food based on reviews & were very disappointed, we won't be back.

We thought we would try it based on rave reviews. Got here at 8:45 on a Sunday and the parking lot was quite empty. We had to hunt down a menu, they didn't have our first two choices, and when we went to get coffee, all the machines were empty except for decaf! Don't plan on coming back!

Delicious food and awesome prices!! Hubby says it's the best caramel macchiato he has ever had. Now I don't want to leave Ruidoso. Will definitely stop by again before heading back home. Next time we come back, I'll be dinning here every day.
