Had the Big-O-Breakfast....amazing! Scrambled eggs, chorizo and chiles topped with cheese. I couldn't eat it all but I'm taking it with me.

We came to Ruidoso after being in Santa Fe. I love red chile enchiladas and Santa Fe has some of the best. Coming to Chef Lupe after that could only be a let down. It was. First, be prepared that they only serve beer and wine - no margaritas. The kids tacos are weird for a kid - served on a soft corn tortilla and has pork rather than ground beef. My 8 yr old was less than impressed. For the adult food, my red chile enchiladas were overcooked and the seasoning was subpar. The green chile enchiladas that my wife ordered were weird. The sauce was more neon green than you would expect and had a strange consistency We had gone there on the recommendation of a local, but many other locals afterward said no - don't go there. On a positive note, our waitress was very helpful and attentive. She is the reason for 2 stars instead on 1. For our next night, we ate at Casa Blanca on Mechem and it was delicious. I would recommend skip Chef Lupe and go straight to Casa Blanca

I've had about few meals at Chef Lupe's. Their menudo is very good - I always order it. I tried the enchiladas the last time I was there and wouldn't recommend them. According to one of their servers they use tomatio in the enchilada sauce, which makes it taste acidy and bitter. My wife tried the fish and shrimp soup and didn't finish it. The taste was not good and wouldn't recommend it. The service is good except when when they're busy.

Excellent meal! We tried the chili rellanos, tacos, bacon cheeseburger and fries. Homemade goodness! Salsa and chips were very good with the right amount of kick!

Lupe's aint all bad. I found the service to be very attentive, and I really liked my chilaquiles. Their bacon burritos are also pretty swell. With all that being said, I can't give this place 4 stars. There's just something missing ... The decor is pretty blah, but I think you're not here for ambiance, really. They must have got a good deal on miniature bamboo, because they've got it all over the place.

We are here because it was open on Christmas Day. We thought it was nice of them to open on Christmas, and it was really crowded because of this. It's a small, seat yourself kind of place. The staff was nice, but young and frazzled. I ordered the tacos, which were good, but my husband ordered pork chops and they were not good. He did like the grilled veggies they came with. I have a feeling if we came on a quieter day this experience may have been better, but I do appreciate not having to cook on Christmas! I would go back and give them another chance.

Better than a 3, not as good as a 4. We both had Enchiladas and Chili Rellenos, both very good, prepared simply, nothing exotic.

If you like a ton of good food and cheap prices you need to go here! I would feel guilty eating so much food normally but we had a long, active day ahead of us and we needed the fuel. The place was nearly packed, with the exception of a two booths towards the back it was chucked full. The crowd did not stop the staff from getting to us and making sure we did NOT have to wait an eternity for our food. We asked for Migas before even looking at the menu thinking they would know what we wanted. Not so, (Andrew we are not in Texas anymore) based on her look and the fact that she said, what are those, I knew we better take a look at the menu. We found a close cousin to Migas. It was their version of scrambled eggs with onions, veggies, cheese and fresh jalapenos. The only thing missing were the tortilla strips. We also ordered two pecan pancakes and one pistachio pancake. Everything came hot and delicious, they kept our hot drinks as well as water full. These women were working their butts off taking care of customers so I can only imagine how busy they were in the back!. This is a great little family run business, well worth the visit.

Dont be surprised with the 80s design...I kinda loved that :) Be patient because they are serving lots of customers with their hearts so they will take time to come you then would make you happy. Chef Lupes still making the food himself for more than 20 years, he make it with love to his customers not for their money....so its delicious, plenty, and worths the price. I traveled 200mi to Ruidoso and i m happy after that so will definitely go again, for the beautiful city and the Chef Lupes ;)

Fresh margs, very good food, thick chips and friendly service. Clean restaurant. My only complaint was that there was no soap dispenser in the men's restroom. I am sure the kitchen staff used their own washing station. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I can't rate Lupe's more than OK. My wife went with a burger which she rated as good. I had a sampler plate consisting of a beef taco, beef enchilada, and a chili relleno, all with red sauce. The flavor of the taco and enchilada were pretty good, but the chili relleno had a problem that I really hated: they did not de-seed the chili. The flavor was adequate, but it didn't seem to be breaded/fried like I normally like them to be. Also, I have an inherent dislike of plates where everything is covered in sauce and cheese and then put under a salamander. I have a double-aversion to the serving method of having these plastic rectangular trays with a steel tray insert, my previous encounters with such serving methods have always resulted in poor food quality, and that's the method that Chef Lupe's uses. Will I return to Lupe's? Well, probably not. There's lots of restaurants in Ruidoso to explore, and I would hope that I can find better food. The problem is that restaurants in Ruidoso seem to come and go at a fairly brisk pace, so it seems to be a crap shoot if you find a good place whether or not it will be there next year. Another problem with Ruidoso is that off-season, a lot of restaurants either are not open for dinner or are closed Monday/Tuesday.

2 stars bc it's open on New Years Eve. Food ok. Family friendly. Accommodated our substitutions to the menu.

There is honestly not a better Mexican restaurant on the planet. I compare every single green-sauce smothered steak burrito I get to the one at Chef Lupe's, and nothing has ever compared. I MIGHT be biased since I've been coming here for years--starting when they were still in the smaller location, but the quality hasn't changed at all. If you're in the area, GO.

We had a late lunch after a morning on the slopes. The kids had pancakes and they were good. My wife had the cheese enchiladas and they were flavorless. Even the kids wouldn't eat them. I had the #1 with green sauce and it was fine, not exactly what I was expecting after reading other reviews. I would get breakfast if I eat here again.

Would have been 5 stars , for the menudo alone but everything else is okay. The waitresses are busy and ours forgot our tortillas , tamales and sweet n low.

Must try the Huevos Rancheros with green sauce. Excellent!!!!

In my 24 years of existence, I've only had Mexican food worse than this one time. It was cooked with poor ingredients and covered in grease so much that our quesadillas were soggy. Also, the staff wasn't well trained at all.

Great food - wonderful breakfast place, or ???...Service can be slow as they are busy - need a bit o' work on the service side. But the food is great. Huevos Rancheros is the best around that I've found so far although, alas - NOTHING has ever come close to Huevos Rancheros at the House of Blues in Las Vegas...but that's Vegas :-). All said, Chef Lupe's is by far the best mexican restaurant around.

Good authentic Mexican breakfast, a bit too spicy for my boyfriends Scandinavians tongue.

Don't like to adversely affect the rating for bad service so gave two stars but can't really rate the food because WE NEVER GOT ANY!! They were full but not totally overflowing. Seated in about 5 minutes; ordered in 10 minutes and received coffee; 40 minutes later - NO FOOD! We left. Several others left as well. Too bad.

Fabulous breakfast. Hard to choose between the Mexican dshes and the tasty pistachio pancakes. So we had both!!

All I can say is blueberry pancakes wrapped around breakfast sausage. Hell Yeah!!!!!! The only place to eat breakfast.

Since you may not read this whole review, I will start by telling you that the breakfast food we had was outstanding and based on the food alone, it deserves five stars. I had the pistachio pancakes, which were superb! Everyone at the table tried them and wished they'd ordered them too. My daughter ordered her own made up breakfast of a scrambled egg, a biscuit (which was soft, buttery, and HUGE!), and a side of refried beans (which were smooth with great flavor). Our waitress was extremely sweet and very accommodating with her "made up" menu. My husband ordered the avocado, bacon, and cheddar omelet. It rivaled one of our favorite omelets in San Antonio (at The Magnolia Pancake Haus). It contained good ingredients, was served with fresh salsa, hashbrowns, and one of those giant biscuits. Yum. The only negatives, and the reason for four stars instead of five, is that two pieces of our silverware were dirty, the coffee was watery, and the atmosphere is lacking, but I will not let those be deal breakers because the food was *that* good. I definitely recommend going here! I look forward to returning next time I'm in town.

saw the reviews, but this place wasn't as good as they said. One waitress for 6 tables for dinner. Our food ( beef fajita and chimichunga) was good, but I found a chunk of grizzle in mine. Just OK...not outstanding.

Overpriced & food underwhelming. Being from San Antonio, I was surprised how tasteless all plates were on our 1 visit. I hate to write such a negative review, but just my "2 cents"...

We enjoy Chef Lupes each time we go to Ruidoso. Its a dive, plain and simple, could use a good scrubbing and some updating, but the food is great. I almost always get the chalupa plate with shredded beef, its very good and my husband gets a lot of different plates and has never been disappointed. He sticks with the green chili stuff and its spicy (to much for me) but he loves it. VERY fresh and simple and good. Waitstaff doesnt speak much english for the most part, but they get what you want and do a good job. NO liquer here.... Give it a chance, esp if you need a late night meal...as Ruidoso rolls up and shuts down at 8pm, this place is open up to 24 hours (on weekends) and i think midnight on weeknights, nice added bonus!

Well worn around the edges and kind of loud, but the food is great! Service is good and the locals pack this place. Price is reasonable, servings are large and business is brisk. Don't miss the green sauce... the pork tamales were just right.

Good hole in the wall, non touristy joint with friendly service and good cheap food. not gourmet, but neither are the prices. Great chips and salsa, and filling fare after hitting the slopes. Beer also.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
