Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I just enjoyed a pleasant dinner this evening at El Tapatio. This was a true Mexican dining experience. The food was pretty good and the service was better than most places in Roswell. I enjoyed plate number 38 which had a chicken quesadilla, an enchilada, and I substituted the rice with refried beans. The entire meal was pretty good. I dined on a Sunday evening and when I arrived I was surprised to see a 3 member Mexican band playing live music as they moved from table to table. This enhanced the dining experience and added to the authenticity of the dinner. According to the signs they have live music Friday - Sunday. Give this place a try and I'll bet you won't regret it. P.S. Try the sopapilla for an added delicious treat!

Staff very pleasant. Salsa good, but being from New York, entrees not what I expected in New Mexico. The meals I had in Texas were far better. Guacamole was bland. Enchilada just fair.

This could be 5 stars, handicapping for Roswell. It is a decent Mexican option in a town that doesn't want for such a thing. The Jalisco style gives this place a unique edge. The Jalisco style means this is more Mexican than New Mexican, though you'll still see chile relleno and enchiladas smothered in red or green sauce. I can see how some might think this place is bland or average, but I'm of the opinion that's more reflective of the poor ambience. If the food were served from a taco truck, it would be more in line with the general vibe. If you're wanting New Mexican, you may want to look elsewhere (Los Cerritos, Martin's Capitol, Peppers). If you're looking for old Mexican (heh), try here.

I'm not sure where to start. We went there based on the Yelp reviews and the recommendation of our hotel staff. Quite possibly the worst Mexican food we've ever tried to eat. Even the kids, who eat almost anything said, "this place isn't very good."

You get a lot of food for your money here. It's not the best I've ever had but I'm definitely satisfied and I would come here again.

We had two plates, Carnitas and Pork Adobada. We enjoyed both and would order them again. I especially liked the salsa, it was some of the best I've ever had at a Mexican joint (it's usually so runny, but this was thick and chunky). The sopapillas for desert were also quite yummy...not greasy at all, nice and fluffy/flaky.

Everything was delicious! Chips made fresh, salsa perfect balance of heat and flavor.. Carne asada was tender, great red chile.. Fried ice cream desert was very good and best horchata I've ever had!

On point, New Mexico food never disappoints but this was so good that even after we got back to the hotel it was warm. Their sauce is awesome, spicy for us but awesome. I posted their menu for them (told them I would ) super friendly staff!

Stopped in for lunch and the food was amazing! The salsa was delicious! Great service too!

This place has several positives and several negatives: The bad news first: -Waited 25 minutes for one burrito to go. -Ordered the Verde Jalisco Burrito. Good thing I already know what chile verde tastes like, because I tasted a hint of it on my burrito, but it was such a small amount that I could barely detect it, and my burrito didn't look green at all. -The burrito was not full enough. This is one of the few times I've finished the insides first and was left with a soggy tortilla at the end... -I noticed they make their margaritas with that nasty Jose Cuervo premix stuff. The positives: -One of the few places in Roswell still open at 8pm that isn't a chain fast food restaurant. -Their carne asada was really on point! Delicious! -The burrito was good and would've earned them 4 stars if they weren't so stingy on the filler (maybe try beans if you don't want to give away too much meat) and green chile on the outside (come on, I order a VERDE burrito - it had better look GREEN!!!). -Reasonably priced. Live music could be a positive or a negative, depending on who you are. I enjoyed it while waiting 25 minutes for a burrito. Service was whatever. The girl who took my order was polite, but I didn't get the vibe that anyone working there really cared about their jobs. I'd try another place first, and come back to El Tapatio if everywhere else was closed.

I had the caldo de rez. It was good, but nothing that will be memorable. El Tapatio will be one of my options to stop at next time I go through Roswell, NM

I write this $26 later ($30 with tip) and absolutely no more room in my belly! Mini tacos plate, carne al pastor plate, 2 horchatas, and sopapilla. I had to roll myself outta there. Food was hot and tasty; service was prompt but patient with my questions; generous portions for the price. Must lie down now...food coma taking over.

I've had better.

My first impression; a very laid back, classic Mexican Restaurant with good customer service. Seated right away, complimentary chips and salsa and they actually have Tapatio sauce (hence the name, they better have it.) Good food, good customer service and a decent looking joint for Roswell.

My boyfriend and I are still sitting at the table, waiting for our check. It's been 20 minutes since we could find our waitress, and the one we just flagged down didn't speak enough English to understand our request. The food was the worst I've had in any Mexican food establishment. The salsa was grossly fruity and our meals were served with crunchy rice and soupy beans. I had the #3, which was unremarkable in any way, except for its blandness. My boyfriend's chimichanga came swimming in "Kraft Mac n' Cheese powder queso" according to him. If you're looking for wonderful authentic Mexican food in Roswell go to Los Cerritos on Main. They have the best food in town. We were forced to this El Tapatio restaurant because every restaurant here closes around 5 on Sundays. I wish we had just gone to Albertsons for dinner. Update: Apparently you go up to the front for your check. It would've been nice if anyone had mentioned that before our 20 minute wait.

The food was just what you'd expect from this little dive of a place....good and simple. I'd give it more stars if they served beer! The kids plate came with a lot of fries and a tiny burrito so I wasn't impressed with that. But, I was happy to try out a local owned business and our tummies were happy in the end.

The food was really good and the service was great! The salsa is spicy and the chips were still warm when they came out. We both had combination plates and everything we had was good. They don't serve alcohol, but they have horchata! Our whole meal with drinks each game out to $22. Great price for good food!

Serve was outstanding on this visit. I tried a combo plate and my wife had alacarte items. The sopapilla was out of this world.

First time here as it's relatively new, but I will already say, i personally think this is the best Mexican restaurant in Roswell. (Although, most of my experience with Mexican food is in arizona and not Mexico). I went for the #18, el pastor plate. Very tasty. Kinda reminded me of Korean BBQ bulgogi. I'm looking forward to trying the other dishes here.

I haven't even eaten yet and I'm pissed off. After searching on Yelp and finding two places out of business I came here based on good reviews. So far the service absolutely sucks, they brought me a drink I didn't order and they don't serve breakfast after 11. So far Roswell absolutely sucks for restaurants.

I give 5 stars because of friendly staff, great location, and amazing authentic food. I got a togo order, i am not from town and the guy there was very helpful. They did not have a togo menu so the guy let me borrow a menu to take back to my hotel. It was not too long of a wait for food... if you want super fast then there is a Taco Bell across the street. But if you are in the mood for true mexocan flavor and flare, my advice is to try this place out. Im from south texas, love mexican food, i will be back.

The service was excellent. Chips and salsa arrived quickly and were refilled once with an offer for another fill. Drinks arrived promptly, we offers of refills before they were empty. The food arrived in a timely fashion, portions were more than generous for the price, and very tasty. I'm came from out of town, and was pleased to find such a good bargain and service here in Roswell.
