I was a fan of the original restaurant in Clovis, NM...and was pleased that a version of it was coming to Portales. The quality of the food is good...well seasoned, hot, and good portions. Prices are reasonable...often I get two meals from a single plate...so the food is a good deal. The issue that will determine whether Thai City makes it will be staffing. The wait staff is just average...and the last time I was in the resturant...the floors were sticky...very sticky. I want the business to succeed, but the managers MUST have quality control or folks in Portales will begin talking about the Thai place that USED to be in the old Dairy Queen.

Oh wow. Ever since I moved from a big city with a variety of ethnic foods, I have been searching for a place to fulfill my Asian-food cravings in P-town. I'd been hearing about the hype of a "new Thai restaurant" coming to town and I finally had a chance to try Thai City today for lunch. It's always a good sign when the Sunday church crowd files into a restaurant for lunch. The place was packed yet the service was pretty quick. Looking through the menu and seeing all the different options I already knew this place would be my new "go-to" restaurant. The prices are reasonable for the most part ranging from about $1-$9 for starters to about $30 for the more expensive Japanese selections. The average amount runs between $7.99-$12.00 for a majority of the entrees on the menu. Not bad. Back home, I love eating Pho (Vietnamese rice noodle soup with beef slices and beef meatballs). In fact, there are restaurants that are dedicated to making all different kinds of Pho. Nonetheless, I was pretty excited to see that Thai City had beef Pho on the menu under "chef's specials." Of course, I ordered pho and my boyfriend ordered the Pad Thai with beef. For our appetizer, we ordered the chicken satay with peanut sauce. All three items came out within 10-15 minutes and the dishes were steaming hot! The chicken satay pieces were tender and had that nice char for added flavor. The peanut sauce was sweet and I added a little Siracha hot sauce to make it spicy. Yum. The Beef Pad Thai was a portion size fit for two but of course, my boyfriend ate the whole thing. The Pho was a piping hot bowl of noodle soup and the broth was pretty savory. Add in some bean sprouts, jalapeno slices and squeeze a little lime and you'll have a delicious meal. So far so good. Thai City's wide selection of Thai, Japanese, and Chinese cuisine in one little restaurant is truly a great addition to Portales. The only con about this restaurant is that I noticed a lot of rice on the floor, under tables, on the seats of chairs... nothing that can't be remedied. I love food as much as I like to eat at clean restaurants and I'd just hate for the cleanliness of this place to be a turn-off for future customers. Perhaps cleaning up the floors after every party leaves will help keep this place a nice shiny gem in Portales. A pro about Thai City is that they offer dine-in or carry-out. Pretty convenient for those of us with on-the-go schedules. Overall, my experience was great and I'll be back very, very soon. Thanks Thai City!

Sad. Before I begin, mind you I ordered take out & they can't even get that right. Food is ok but some of their employees can't even take orders right. I ordered chicken pho & combination fried rice. I got home & discovered that they gave me beef pho & meatballs. They got the combo fried rice right but they poured chillies all over the rice. I drove back to the restaurant & explained the problem to the same employee that checked me out (probably the same one who took my order over the phone). She took the styrofoam filled food & walked away w/ it. No apologies, no nothing. I hate incompetent people. All their employees are idiots, except for one.

Service was ok, food comes out fast, the shrimp green curry that I ordered was very GREEN in color and the taste was not bad. Nice decoration, plenty of parking. TV is big but not HD, looks like old projection quality.
