In from Arizona and needed a place to work from so decided to setup shop here at "The Bean". Had the breakfast quesadilla and a cafe mocha. Cafe Mocha was excellent. The roast was just right. Great bold flavor and not over sweetened. Didn't lose the bean flavor under the chocolate/sugar. (Like some other super popular coffee shops.) Breakfast quesadilla was great. Nice crispy tortilla and great fluffy eggs inside. It came with a side of fried potatoes that had a great peppery/spicy seasoning. Finally the atmosphere here is great. One of the girls behind the counter is fantastic with the customers and knew most of them by name as they walked in. She definitely brings a lot of life and light to the place. The other staff was friendly and efficient as well. It is a hipster / retiree hangout and the best of both worlds. Cool spot to work from even better if you are just in for coffee and chatting it up with friends. The only downside is the wifi wasn't working... So stuck using a hotspot.

So glad we came here! This place has a great atmosphere, it is welcoming and the coffee is great. The Local Art on the walls is another bonus!

Great locale for anyone stating or finishing their day in Mesilla. We love stopping here every time we are in town. Great staff but acrid coffee, muffins were bland and smoothie was too watery. It's a coffee joint but needs better coffee, disappointing

Stopped in for Breakfast. A short walk down from the Siesta RV park where we are staying. The service was friendly and very good. Really good coffee and the French toast well a picture is worth a thousand words.

Very good quality beans and expertly roasted. I've been coming here for a few years and stop by anytime i go to Mesilla by Las Cruces, MN. I live in Fort Worth, TX too, btw. Food is fantastic.

I was really looking forward to trying out the Bean of Mesilla. My BFF and I were driving through from San Diego to Dallas, and this was on our list for breakfast one morning. We each got a cappuccino and shared a breakfast taco and the whole wheat waffles. The tortilla on our taco was dry and there wasn't much flavor to it. The whole wheat waffles weren't whole wheat, and they were soggy! ... and the coffee lacked punch. I wasn't impressed. It's confusing when you walk in and when you order, and the girl at the register didn't seem to want to enlighten me, but you basically just go up to the counter and order something and they bring it out to you. At least it was better than the continental breakfast at the Days Inn :)

A little jewel in the Las Cruces area. Good food (especially the croissants!), lots of regulars, and great atmosphere. Really good coffee, too!

Very cool place with a good vibe. Staff was friendly. It was a little cold this morning, so inside was packed and the patio was empty. Seating inside is sparse, but certainly enough for the 10 warm months of the year. Coffee was very good. Got a Americano and it came quickly and excellently made. They roast their beans on site and you could tell quality was A+. The bakery case looked amazing. I was eyeing one of their gigantic blueberry muffins, but opted instead for the french toast. It was good (and I'll post a picture of it as well), but not amazing. One of the bread slices was cut pretty thick, so the inside didn't get a chance to soak in. Ended up a little dry inside. Still very good though. I'll be back.

Very LA but the coffee could be better. Like the food and the vibe. Plus every car in town drives by the place... Oh and what's with the drunk indian dude who called me "General"? Its racist people like him that make me glad I'm Diablo Blanco.

This place was great. I had the breakfast quesadilla. Excellent. The late was particularly flavorful. They have their own bean roaster! Don't miss this oasis of coffee.

Great coffee, delicious food (chicken salad w/cranberry and pecans and just enough mayo!). Plus it's in Mesilla, can't go wrong there!

I love this place. They have fresh roasted coffee and the superbowl is worth the ride from El Paso. The Bean is a fixture for anyone who rides a bike or motorcycle for a good reason.

Finally, a great cup of joe! I've recently relocated to Las Cruces and have been looking forward to an authentic coffee shop (not Starbucks!). My boyfriend have stumbled upon The Bean two weeks ago. We ordered two lattes served in a nice large mug. The expresso to milk ratio was perfect with the right amount of foam. We also shared a breakfast quesidilla. It was tasty with subtle hint of green chilies. It is served with a red salsa which is a smooth blend with a hint of spice and crispy, simple breakfast potatoes. The wait staff, Vanessa is always welcoming and seems to have remembered us.. I am happy to add this stop to my mornings!

Are kidding its freezing in there, they don't have any heat! And the baristra was, I guess having a bad day and she was very very rude. They typically run out of pastries by 10:00

Just steps away from a predominantly tourist fueled area sits The Bean. While my local friend was showing me around the area I was ecstatic to find a local coffee shop that serves up great coffee without inflated "tourist" prices. The outdoor seating area was perfect on a hot and humid summer afternoon! Easy parking: Yes Large mocha under $5: Yes Friendly staff: Yes Indoor seating: Lots of wooden chairs with plenty of space between tables. Outdoor seating: Plenty of shaded tables. Decor: Funky art on the walls, bright colors splashed throughout. People with laptops: Some Hipsters: Some Famous Faces: No Foam Art: No People watching: Decent In & out quick: Yes The challenge continues!

This is our kind of place. No chain store action here. Old but in good shape furniture. Friendly service, a wonderful menu for bacon eggs and more. The Good Morning Muffin would be a regular for me I lived in Messilla or Las Cruces. As it is we stop on our way through to this place every time we can. I want this place to be in my home town Thank you Bean of Mesilla, You are wonderful. oh yes -- and the coffee is really terrific.

In the age of corporate domination, where companies like Starbucks reign supreme; it's nice to know there's still little spots like "The Bean" that put a little extra time and attention into quality... aspects that are overlooked by 'big brother' Starbucks and the like. This was my first experience at this quaint, little cafe in old Mesilla; and I have to say, it didn't disappoint. I ordered the house coffee with breakfast sandwich; my wife ordered a vanilla latte with a cranberry muffin. First impression was from my wife: she remarked that it was one of the best vanilla lattes she's had. And this, coming from two folks who've spent years in the coffee capital of the U.S., Seattle, WA. The food: the muffin and breakfast sandwich were both fresh and tasted delicious. There was real quality ingredients and nothing tasted pre-prepared or warmed in the microwave. Seems like a given, but it's not in this day and age of fast food mentality. It's this type of food (not to mention the cute atmosphere of the establishment) that will continue to bring folks like us back again and again. Their hours are limited, so make sure and get in between the hours of 7a.m. - 1p.m. This is a business that cares about their customers and happily serves the Mesilla and Las Cruces community with delicious food and coffee. Thanks!!

I actually feel pretty horrible that I have to give The Bean a poor review, but after 5-6 times of hoping for better, I've been disappointed. I'm new to the area and found this place just a few months ago. My first visit was amazing. The coffee was excellent and though the pastries were dry, I was willing to overlook it for a place that wasn't Starbucks. In the last few visits, however, I've been let down by both the quality of the food and the coffee. Each latte I had after the first visit seemed to be worse and worse. The shots were so bitter, as if they had been left out too long, that I couldn't even imagine finishing the drinks. On my last visit I took back my drink only to be met with excuses as to why I probably didn't like it, never an apology about the quality. Very disappointing. I'm also not a fan of their pastries that always seem to be dry, especially their muffins. While I want to love their gigantic muffins, they look better than they taste. They're missing flavor and crumble apart for lack of moisture. I want to love The Bean, but they really need to work on their food quality and consistency. While Las Cruces needs more coffee shops like this, The Bean has a way to go before I'd consider coming back.

Went here for the first time today and it exceeded my expectations! Cute little cozy place staff is super nice and friendly and food is great! I got the omelet with pesto, bacon, and tomatoes and it was very tasty! I also ordered a green tea latte which I had been craving and it was awesome! The toast even looked home made and it was a yummy side to my omelet. Awesome breakfast spot!

The Bean is under new management now, but I'm not optimistic about the longterm sustainability of the operation. The espresso drinks are good, but the new owners are very young--so young that they appear to know nothing about how to operate a business. Food is just thrown together in an unappetizing way in the display case; the music when I went in there was good music, but it was blasting, more for the enjoyment of the owners than customers. Worse, I noticed people standing around waiting to be served while one of the two owners went outside and smoked a cigarette and the other sat in another room and relaxed. Six people came into the establishment, looked around, and went back out again because no one bothered to greet them or offer to get them anything. The Bean could be really good, but it needs to be run by adults.

Perfect breakfast with fresh ingredients. The coffee is the best around. If I lived here, I'd be a regular. As it is, I'll be back whenever I'm in town. Great, friendly service, as well.

I'm not a coffee drinker so this rating is on my two cafe criteria: A. Tea B. As a third place First, about the tea. 1. Do they serve pots/something larger than a cup? Not as far as I know. 2. Do they know how to brew it? Um, no. No variable temperature brewing (greens are best around 170F). 3. Do they have more than the pedestrian, bagged teas from some big manufacturer? Bagged tea from Bigelow. As a third place. Very nice third place. Seems like a genuine center of the community. Local cyclists stop in here a lot; the staff seem to know many of the patrons; people are talking and meeting here. It's an older crowd, very white. Lots of retirees. Nice outdoor seating area. Inside is all tables and chairs (no comfy chairs or sofas) but the light is very good, the decor is pleasant, and overall it is very comfortable. I didn't have breakfast but the menu offerings looked tempting. Not really worth it for the tea, but I will definitely go back to work/study.

We ordered the Belgian Waffles, Pita Chips and Hummus, and Grilled Veggie & Blackbean Quesadilla. Everything was delicious. The best was the quesadilla with the Red Sauce!

This place gets hot and cold reviews. but decided to risk it. Some of what others say is true, I ordered a cafe latte and while not piping hot, it was delicious. I got the scrambled eggs with green chiles (remember Hatch is around the corner), tomatoes and cheese. They were good. The converted gas station gives an interesting ambiance. It was pleasant sitting outside until the overwhelming, endless noise from the dentists with Harleys rode by. Sigh.

I have been coming to The Bean for a long time, mostly because it is so close to our house and it's a convenient place to stop in for some breakfast and coffee. The staff seems friendly and the atmosphere of the place is cute and I like the outdoor patio where you can drink your coffee or "italian" soda and eat some baked goods. I LIKE the idea of this place and for so many years I have wanted so bad to have LIKED it after I left... I have been giving it a second chance for years now... but it's always the same. Weak coffee and the food is just so-so. The baked goods look so good, but when I am done, I am never completely satisfied. The hot food seems to take a long time and it is always sad tasting (meaning I am sad after I eat it, from lack of goodness). So Bean, I think it is time we call it quits you and I. I know you wont be alone ...

Great little coffeehouse on the main Mesilla drag. Excellent breakfast quesadilla--nice and spicy because of the green chilies. Great coffee and chai tea latte. Friendly, good service. Cool hipster vibe--and they have their own coffee roaster--yum!

Hipster Paradise with fantastic coffee!! Nice little place on the Mesilla strip has indoor and patio seating, a great menu with just about all your coffee needs, and a pretty good breakfast and lunch menu! Had a latte that was near perfect! They apparently roast their own coffee here which the huge coffee roaster near the restrooms would suggest. The coffee certainly tasted like the fresh roast I am used too in my home state of Cali. This will definitely be my source of coffee whenever I am in town!!

I greatly enjoyed my first time at this establishment. I received excellent customer service from both Sam and Vanessa. Additionally, Sam did a wonderful job ensuring that all my items were fresh and warm. Her recommendations were 'on point' and yummy. Thanks ladies for a great Sunday morning.

Growing up near Seattle, coffee was a main part of life. I was a bit concerned about the coffee selection when moving to the middle of the desert. I was so happy to find The Bean! Their coffee is the best in town and the food is pretty great too. I had a chicken salad wrap, which was moist and delicious. I also liked that they give you veggie chips as a side, and use real plates and cups that can be washed and used again, (as opposed to just being thrown away.) I would definitely recommend this place to any coffee lovers that have not yet found it!

This place is the most oddest cutest place ever. I was visiting some friends in town who live walking distance away. I went over for some breakfast and to get some work done. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which was delicious and came with a side of potatoes which was even more delicious. Those were some yummy potatoes. They have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. It was really nice. I say this place is odd because as I was getting some work done there were tons of bikers (road bikes; not motorcycles). Later my friend told me that this is a huge biker stop. If I ever lived here and close by, I could see me becoming a regular at this place.

Being both a coffee lover (addict?) and a huge fan of boho-style coffee shops, this was an anticipated stop since my friend Melissa C took me to Mesilla the first time. This morning's visit, however wasn't about the coffee. We were starving, and wanted some gourmet-style food in this earthy-chic atmosphere. All about the food, baby! First off, "The Bean" has, for the past 10 years, been my clique's nickname for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, the Starbucks knock-off chain almost as ubiquitous in Los Angeles as Starbucks. So I couldn't help but make an association. But this is nothing like LA's "Bean"-- very hippy-dippy and laid back. I also loved the fact that it occupies a former gas station/ repair garage. For some reason I always love to dream up new uses for old gas stations every time I see one. The Bean even retained the old gas pump canopy , which now covers a fantastic stone patio. The entire atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. The lunch items we ordered (actually from their breakfast menu) arrived. I'd ordered an omelet with pesto, ham and Swiss cheese. Melissa ordered an omelet with ham, tomato, onion, and Swiss. When the food arrived, Melissa tried in vain to locate her Swiss cheese, to no avail. We surmised that the menu stated 3 items per omelet, so they probably denied her that fourth item. Just a guess. They also didn't have any ketchup for our home fries, but they did provide some salsa. The omelets were both very good, cheese omission aside. My pesto omelet was excellent, however; a nice flavor mix with the Swiss and the ham. (I was lucky enough to find Swiss cheese in my omelet.) Having drank about a pot of coffee prior to the visit to the Bean, I opted for iced tea. Melissa did try a cup of "Mississippi Malabar" or "Meringue Malabar" or "Mustachio Malabar", or something like that. It was a nice flavorful coffee, I'm imagining, before Melissa put in all that cream and sugar. Overall, I really enjoyed the food, as well as the vibe at Mesilla's "Bean". I definitely think I'll come back, and I'd recommend this place to anyone who likes a nice coffee-house atmosphere, and doesn't like ketchup.

When it comes to my coffee, I've been a Starbucks yuppy asshole. It's pathetic, really. I've grown to expect the quick, easy, no fuss deliciousness of a caramel macchiato ordered from my car while I do my makeup. When I go to The Bean, I understand that I will be served when the hippy who just put his/her cigarette out on the patio damn well feels like it. I know they're probably going to put the ice in before the espresso, causing watered down room temperature 'iced' lattes. I don't expect anyone to smile at me. But, you know what? That's okay. Nothing says New Mexico like unhurried service and lackadaisically made products. It just means that when I go to work, people are used to the day-dreaming, slow moving, easy life of Mesilla. They don't expect so much. It brings me happiness to know that even the Starbucks here are a little slower, a little more chill, and a little more down to Earth. It slows me down, too. Maybe I'm not such a yuppy after all. Oh yeah, when you go to The Bean, try a morning muffin and an iced white mocha: the home baked goods are amazing.

this isn't really a review....I am the owner of the bean, and although I didn't read your review, I want to apologize that one of my employees would respond to your's by writing a negative email. Everyone tries to be polite, and we do the best we can with product and service but being in business sort of opens you up to commentary and critique. I realize that, and I cringe when I read negative comments and feel wonderful when the comments are complimentary, and that should be the point of a review hopefully.....to help the business see what they could do better, and know what they are doing right.
