This is the best place to eat in New Mexico. I had the chicken salad sandwich and the chile con queso. Great ambiance. If you're ever in this area it's worth going out of your way for.

Ohhh, echanté! Peppers on the Plaza is simply enchanting. Well worth the drive for any El Pasoan and a must when passing through the Las Cruces/Mesilla area. Prior to eating at POTP I wasn't envious of anyone who lived in Las Cruces, but all that has changed now. After spending a few minutes at the newly opened New Mexico Pecan Co., we marched across the street in search of an ATM at Double Eagle. Upon approach I noticed two signs, "Double Eagle" and "Peppers on the Plaza". DE/POTP is one of the few places with a ATM at the plaza so they came through for us on that. During the money grab I got a quick look around and I would definitely describe it as classy. The bar felt 20's inspired to me, but I'm no architect. I love the detail they put into everything, they even went as far as detailing the ceiling with "tiles" (I put tiles in quotations because they appear to be made from a thinner, hollow material like...plastic, but again I'm no architect and it added to the charm). We returned after we paid for our bags of delicious pecans and pistachio brittle. Two hostess greeted us with a very warm smile and asked which restaurant we'd like to be seated at. From what I understand, DE is more about steaks and fine dining inside and POTP is more about New Mexico flare and casual dining on the patio. I was wearing a Deter shirt that said something along the lines of "I just want to LOVE you" and jeans so casual dining it is! Our hostess led us to a wood table in the atrium as I stared in wonder. Enchanting. A fountain sits in the middle that has strings of lights outstretched to each side. The lights wrap around each post with ferns and palm trees strategically placed throughout the atrium. The windows, wood and most of the siding appears to be original...although we had a debate about how original the atrium ceiling was (or the fact that it was an atrium originally at all). At minimum I think the atrium was done prior to it becoming a restaurant. A rather friendly busser came over and let us know our server would be there shortly and filled our glasses with water, letting us know if we needed anything we could also call on him. From that moment on I knew that the experience would be nothing less than exceptional. Our server, Santiago (I believe), arrived only moments later and was about to take our drink orders when Margaritas were mentioned. Apparently they have over 40 different Margaritas. He gave us a few minutes with the drink menu and on return I settled on the Prickly Pear. I still needed some time with the actual menu so he left to place our drink orders and bring us the seasoned chips and salsa. I like the idea of seasoned chips, I'm guessing it was a steak seasoning. My foodie PIC wasn't fond of the thick tomato based salsa, but I didn't mind it and actually kind of liked it (but then again I really, really like tomatoes). Our drinks arrived and the Prickly Pear is now my absolute favorite margarita. I didn't specify frozen or on the rocks so it came out on the rocks, but that didn't take away from the deliciousness at all. My dining PIC felt as though the glass served with his Corona was not chilled, but I will tell you without a doubt that thing had spent some time in a freezer (just not to the degree he would've liked). The menu is very unique. It wasn't just composed of New Mexico faves, but was also sprinkled with a few European dishes. The Beer Braised Beef Carbonnade caught my eye immediately. Thin steak cuts braised in beer, topped with mushrooms, laying on a piece of sourdough bread toasted with Parmesan, all surrounded in a rich stew. Perfection. Pure perfection. The steak was cooked to about medium and perfectly juicy and flavorful. The mushrooms and stew were phenomenal, both dark and delicious. And the sourdough bread...gaaaaaaaawd! This came with a side and from the recommendation of Santiago I chose the battered fries...top notch! And dipping them in the left over stew was amazing! The chile rellenos my PIC ordered appeared to be breaded in tempura which I thought was rather inventive and looked phenom (and I've never thought chile rellenos looked phenomenal). The only reason I'm docking a star is because of dessert. There's two desserts I can never pass on, Tiramisu and Creme Brulee. POTP serves an Espresso Creme Brulee and unfortunately it was rather disappointing. I suspect they do not use a kitchen torch, but the broiler...it could've used a little bit more time in the broiler to evenly caramelize. And I wasn't particularly fond of the custard. The custard didn't have any hint of Espresso and was simply a vanilla custard, but it wasn't fully set. The top half was, but the bottom was liquified. Since it was served cold, I'm assuming water got into the ramekin when the custard was being set. Dessert disaster aside, I am absolutely obsessed with Peppers on the Plaza. Great place for phenomenal food. And honestly, I'd give the Creme Brulee another shot since it could've been a fluk

We enjoyed the atmosphere in Peppers for lunch and enjoyed being able to peak in on Double Eagle's space before dinner seating. The green chile Bloody Mary was hands down a winner, so smooth and flavorful. Marble IPA is a spot on west style IPA, can't wait to get to ABQ to check them out. New Mexican style red pozole was delicious. It was a bit thicker then I normally prefer but was delicious with tender pork and hominy that clearly indicated its made with care. Green chile relleno was really tasty even thou Im a non-battered type of guy, but it's green chile so I'm not complaining. Green chile sauce smothered cheese enchilada and red brisket crispy taco were both quality and finished the Mexican Plate off just nicely (with rice and beans of course).

WHHHHHHYYYYY DID THEY CHANGE THE MENU?!?!? They used to have shrimp stuffed chile rellenos. They used to have this divine chocolate cake. Both gone off the menu. The service and ambiance is superb. The food now is passable, however unimaginative. For Mexican food, you can go anywhere. But we used to come here for the delicious food. Now - meh :-/

This restaurant includes many of the same great dishes as the Double Eagle. Location is the atrium center of the house that has Double Eagle. Very good food and great location. If I was back in Las Cruces for a long weekend, I would go here or to Double Eagle for a meal.

On tuesday July 16th, I went here with a group of 13. We go to various restaurants around the area every other week. BOTTOM LINE: Food is slightly above average and service is terrible. Not likely to go here again. SERVICE: teamwork and leadership is non-existent! (waitstaff and management fairly indifferent and disinterested) -We were there 50 minutes before our order was taken! (there were only 3 other tables with people at them and our wait staff was not serving them) -When one of our group sent her fajita meal back due to cold-hard tortillas, the manager admitted she did not bother to check the quality of the returned meal. (How as a manager is she going to ensure this doesn't happen again?) She was clearly disinterested in the meal quality but, did offer to bring out something else. -We waited 25 minutes for our checks. To which they had the nerve to add an 18% gratuity for themselves. Then tried to tell me I couldn't have that charge removed. (Yes, when serving large groups gratuity is often add to a check. But, by law you can have it removed. Essentially it is a suggested tip and a way to ensure large groups do leave a tip. I was a waitress many years ago and usually tip 20%. But I never reward poor service.) FOOD: Arrived tepid on a cold plate. I had the Chili Rellenos. The concept of tempura batter for crunchy rellenos seemed like a good idea. But, when smothered in sauce it is no longer crunchy. Not the best in town by any stretch. The rice and beans were both nearly cold. I think it may have been better if it were hot. I also had the Green Chile Wontons. They tasted freshly made and were some of the best I've had. Most of my friends meals were tepid in temperature. The one who ordered the salmon really liked hers, the temperature and flavor was perfect. Several in our group ordered fajitas. Most of the tortillas were cold; one woman's was also rock hard and permanently folded. She sent her meal back and given the general quality all around refused anything else. Back to the SERVICE: We arrived at 5:30pm, it was nearly 6pm before they took our drink orders. I noticed happy hour ended at 6pm and wondered if there was a coincidence. We had a 'team' of wait staff for our table. 2 women and 1 man. I ordered Iced Tea, but when it arrived it was terrible. I told the waiter and he replied it was because I hadn't ordered one of the flavored teas. "No," I said, "it doesn't taste right, like maybe it has gone bad." "Oh," he says, "I don't know what's wrong then." So, I try again. "This tea is bad and I'm not going to drink it, please take it back." He finally took it back. I ordered another drink from the waitress, as the waiter moved on quickly. One of the waitresses tried very hard, the other never spoke, and the waiter was routinely indifferent and did not seem to work as team with the waitresses. The beer arrived in a bottle along with what in most restaurants is a frosty glass from the freezer. Except, this glass had a hand print and looked as though it had been in someone's warm hand quite a while before reaching the table. As our drink orders arrived they took ONLY our appetizer orders and only a few of us ordered them. When they arrived the waiter served the first one to the man sitting at one end of the table. He then asked the man, "are you sharing your appetizer with the rest of the table?" My friend replied yes. (meaning his appetizer he would be offering around). So the waiter proceeded to randomly distribute the apps in the center of the table. The lady to my left's app wound up well down to my right. We were a split check table and the staff knew this. So this was both odd and rude. One of the women's meals had come with a soup but it did not arrive with the apps. It finally arrive with her meal. After we had been there about 45min we started asking each other, "did we order and I just don't remember?" The wait staff was never in the dining room between delivery and orders to be flagged down. There were only 3 other tables with 3 or 4 people at each and they were served by other waitstaff, so they were not busy. The waitress finally showed up to fill waters and take drink refills. One of my friends asked her, "are we ever going to be able to place our order?" The waitress rudely snapped, "of course!" Then disappeared for another five minutes. We waited 50 minutes to place our meal orders!! Completely unacceptable service! The meals came out in 20min, reasonable but, most were tepid in temperature. So there are kitchen coordination problems perhaps as well as wait staff coordination problems. Unacceptable!! Give it a go if you wish, but I'll take my money and valuable time elsewhere.

I strongly encourage those in El Paso to make the 45 minute drive to The Plaza in Historic Old Mesilla, New Mexico to try this place out. My girlfriend recommended it as a last minute option for dinner and I was totally pleased. We were dressed very casual but it was ok. It is also a place that you can dress nice as well. I had a Ribeye (aged 26-34 days) and it was properly prepared and very tasty. I was most impressed with the decor and service. Both were excellent! We even received a private tour after dinner when the waiter was able to share the stories of every room, painting and history associated with this beautiful place. I will definitely return in the near future. double-eagle-mesilla.com Hope your experiance is as good as ours!

Whenever I am in Las Cruces I love making stops at Peppers. The location in Mesilla within the Double Eagle makes for a unique area. You can go dressier or casual. Either is norm. The eclectic decor of Peppers is just perfect. Once seated you are greeted and given some warm chips and tasty salsa. Do not skip an appetizer here. I skip them at most restaurants, but not here. They are so good! Sometimes I order them as my main course! This doesn't mean their main courses aren't good! Their steaks are prepared to perfection and their Mexican food offers something for everyone to choose from! Oh and dessert? Bananas Foster is my fave. Drinks?! Really good. They come from the Double Eagle bar and those guys know what is up!

Interesting location within another restaurant. Came on a Tuesday night in September, and my 20 minute wait for 1 took 40 minutes. Didn't really seem that busy? Once I was seated the service was fast and friendly. The chips were warm and the salsa spicy. I chose the Mexican platter to sample a few items. I'm not a taco fan, and these didn't change my mind, but the Chile Relleno was very good, as was the Green Chile. Interesting atmosphere and pretty good food means I would recommend it, but reservations might be needed on a weekend.

I had a really great experience here. I came with a party of 10 adults and 4 kids the total cost came out to $150 and everyone loved their food. Our food was ready fast (granted we were pretty much the only ones there), the scenery was great, and for the price we paid I can't complain about anything. The place seemed to come off as more of a fine dinning type of restaurant but had amateur servers. The two guys who waited on us divided the table in half and only refilled half the tables drinks at different times. They had good intentions just not properly trained. That's my only point of criticism. I would definitely recommend this place to a friend.

Our first time here was about 8 months ago, and it was pleasant, but this time fell below our expectations. My water glass had lipstick on the rim. The lime that came with my Bloody Mary only produced two drops of juice when squeezed. I asked for more lime wedges, and all four of the replacement wedges were dry as well, so they brought me a rocks glass full of lime juice. Even still, the Bloody Mary was bland and lacking in garnish. My chili cheeseburger was cooked well done if not overly done (I wasn't asked how I wanted my burger, so I expected it mid-well). The burnt burger tasted like propane. The fries were very good though: very crispy and well seasoned. The salsa that came with our chips pre-entree had a very strong onion flavor and was a very watery consistency. Pleasant atmosphere and service was good.

Tried this focus place three times and was disappointed each time. I won't go back even though I live only 2 blocks away! Better to go to las mariachis on motel blvd or Habaneros.

It's cute, hidden, and comfortable. The menu is interesting but not challenging. The flavor of the tortilla soup is surprisingly complex, and full bodied. The service is attentive, polite and friendly. I had a very satisfying meal.

After recently moving to the area I am pleased to have found this establishment. We tend to go to Double-Eagle about once a week but this review is for Pepper's which we have dined at on the few occasions when we haven't eaten at the bar. We received an e-mail about a special - prime rib sandwiches. The e-mail set off our taste buds so we went to try them. The restaurant was quite packed but we were seated promptly. Our waiter greeted us and brought out homemade chips and salsa. The chips were hot and crisp and the salsa has just enough spice from the jalapeños. We had to stop ourselves from eating them all. The prime rib sandwiches were hot, with nicely shaved prime rib. We added cheese to ours which was melted and topped with coleslaw. They were served with a red pepper au jus which had a hint of spice and was a nice addition to tie all the favors together. My only complaint are the French fries, although they were hot and crisp they leave you wanting a little something more be it garlic or an aioli. All in all it was another great experience and I look forward to coming back next week.

So, let's say you want a delicious margarita with your New Mexican food and don't want to go to La Posta. Lots of options, right? NOPE. This may be New Mexico, but part of our "charm" is a fixed number of liquor licenses. Peppers is pretty much your only choice, and it fits the bill. The food isn't the best in town, but it IS good, and they have some unique choices you won't find other places. They won't look at you like you're crazy if you're a vegetarian. The chile rellenos are pretty consistently good, though the cheese of choice is rather processed... same goes for the chile con queso. Velveeta city. The chips are a bit heavy on the seasoning, but they come out warm and pair well with the unique and slightly chunky salsa. I'll take it. The margaritas are, simply put, worth it. The "award winning" is my go-to, but they have enough variations I'm sure you could find several favorites. And the atmosphere is awesome: they have a lovely sun-lit interior courtyard with a fountain and everything. They can accommodate large groups in side rooms if you call ahead. Sometimes the service is slow, but you don't come here to eat and run. In case you missed it up above, you come here to **drink delicious margaritas**... and oh yeah, have some New Mexican food too. Done and done.

We live in Las Cruces and were looking for a change of pace for dinner last night. we had been to Peppers years before (did not like it then) and decided to give it another try. I wish we hadn't. Peppers is the "down-line" "Casual dining " partner to Double Eagle. The menu is totally uninspired and almost seems random. Everything from $30-$40 steaks to burgers. The main options are Mexican food. With out a doubt, it is the worst Mexican food in Las Cruces. We had a good inkling of that when the chips and salsa came out. The salsa is abysmal and seems like they went to a great deal of effort to replicate Pace picante sauce. If you are visiting from another state and don't know much about authentic Mexican food, you might actually think this is good. Its not. The meal was mush with blended bland flavors. My mate ordered the soup and salad. The beef chili stew appeared to be the same salty base that we get at another place in town so I doubt it is home made. Shame on them. They did add leftover beef and some green chilis. The half salad was a small portion of nearly wilted lettuce with ugly shredded chicken on top. Not worth the money. do yourself a favor and go somewhere else that comes a little closer to authentic food for less than half the cost.

How can a restaurant located in the heart of historic Mesilla serve cheese enchiladas where the filling is lukewarm and the cheese is barely melted? The other disappointment was the green chili sauce. This café' prides themselves on their version of this sauce and I don't know what the hype is about. The chili was flavorless: bland, bland, and bland. Even the plated refried beans tasted like they were out of a can and weren't even adorned with any cheese. Again, blah. The only saving grace for this meal, and why it got two stars, was their green chili rellenos and the excellent service. Special note: This café is embedded in the larger more expensive restaurant Double Eagle. Perhaps the more expensive big brother's food maybe better, but if they can't get the small entrees' right who would want to spend a great deal more money to be disappointed. Not me.

The patio was pleasant though the fountain needs a good cleaning. Ordered the hamburger specialties and my friends med rare came out as a cinder. Second one was barely better. The manager, though pleasant, was totally ineffective. Stay to the bar and I am sure you will fare better.

Woah. That was fantastic! My father had the seafood enchiladas and he still talks about them weeks later. I wasn't too hungry but I had the ceviche and loved it. We arrived about 30 min till closing time and they promptly sat us down and we had the sweetest waitress. The atmosphere and friendliness was so refreshing after a long day of traveling. Such a wonderful place to stumble upon. Oh and absolutely amazing avocados. Haven't tasted such a good one in years!

Every year my husband and I come down to White Sands to do the Bataan Death March and meet up with the WWII vets like my fav, Harold. Love you Harold! Anyway I secretly harbor one other crush and that crush is on the Chili Relenos from Peppers on the Plaza. Don'tt get me wrong. The ambience is nice. The atrium and mariachi, yup, nice, but the peppers. Gid and I come here every day, even after we come in from our marathon run and when I hop on the plane to go home I get sad at the thought that I have to wait another year for those awesome made to order perfectly crispy chili relenos and the flan pie too. Missing you :( Tears... See you next year.

I would not recommend going there! Went there a few weeks ago and received poor service. Waited for over an hour to get our food. Waiter kept spilling tea on us. Never apologized. When I complained to manager she said she would talk to our waiter to see what they could do. Waiter finally brought out our food but one of our plates was missing the green chile. ( we had ordered the green chile Mesilla burger) when we told our waiter he went back to the kitchen and five minutes later came out with a green chile on a small plate. He just put the chile on the table and walked away. No apologies. The manager never followed up on us to see if we were satisfied. Nothing was done. Wrote a complaint on their rating card. Was contacted next day via e mail by general manager. I explained our experience to him he apologized and asked for our address said he was sending a coupon us a voucher for a meal but instead I was put on their "VIP " email and get info on their daily specials. Still waiting for voucher.

We were introduced to Peppers on the Plaza with a gift certificate from our daughter. The certificate was good for Peppers (patio area) or the Double Eagle (restaurant area). The atmosphere and the historic significance of this location makes either dining experience a real treat. The food is good, which is must for a good rating.

So, you're wondering around the plaza shopping and taking in the history (right) and thinking about getting the best meal available in Las Cruces. Las Cruces is not known for the best food, but there are some places that are good. Peppers is good. In Hatch territory green chiles should be king and Peppers understands this. The chile rellenos were worth getting. I had the enchiladas with green sauce and taco beef. I would get them again. everyone at the table of 5 were happy. For dessert, the enchilada banana was acceptable, but it was closer to a crepe.

This place was beautifully decorated and featured excellent service. As for the food, here are my notes. They don't serve chimichangas, my favorite "Mexican" food item that seems easier to find in the northern U.S. away from the border. The chile con queso appetizer is quite nice with chips and I'd recommend it. I got the Plato San Juan, which included a beef enchilada, a chicken flauta, and a relleno. Rellenos are these green pepper things that have been stuffed with cheese and fried. If you love cheese, you'll love them, but it was just way too much cheese for me; I couldn't finish it. The enchilada was one of the best I've had, and I normally don't like restaurant enchiladas much. If I could go back in time, I'd get a full plate of just enchiladas here. The chicken flauta was not bad at all, but it didn't shine like the enchilada did.

Amateur night. Wow, I don't think one thing went right. Except the wine; more on that below. Our (large-ish) family came here two nights before Christmas. My dad had reserved one of the private rooms. They sat us at a table in the middle of the place. When he inquired, both the host and server managed an, "um..... (shrug)?" Fine. We're hungry. This will do. The smell of burnt garlic coming from the kitchen is ominous. The food: terrible. All around. That is, once we got it! About an hour and a half after we ordered, with nary an acknowledgement, unceremoniously, the comically overcooked, flavorless, low-quality stuff began hitting the table. One of the signature dishes was a shoe-leather, dried out chicken breast smothered in some heartburn-inducing sauce, topped with a glop of cheese that tasted like oil. The salmon had every molecule of moisture cooked out of it: like wood. The beef Wellington was tough and chewy in greasy, soggy puff-pastry. In addition to being overcooked, my brother's steak something-or-other arrived stone cold. Here's the kicker. When he mentioned it to the server she argued with him! "Well, that was the last thing cooked!" Perhaps. Then left to sit out on the back porch (in the 30 degree chill) for half an hour or so? In summary: Our reservation: ignored The service: slooooooow (never once mentioned, much less apologized for it) and surly. The food: cooked by amateurs from recipes devised by amateurs using government-surplus ingredients. Topped with an argument from the server. No acknowledgement that the food took an hour and a half, that some was cold, some overcooked. No offer to compensate for any of it. Oh, my brother ordered a couple bottles of Caymus. That part was good. And probably the only thing that kept us all from tearing the chandeliers out of the ceiling. I really don't know why anyone would go here. Ever.

Some plusses for this restaurant, but some negatives, also. My companion had the Chili Rellenos, and I had the Beef tips with mushrooms. The Chili Relleno was about 3 bites, and no chili flavor. Her rice and the beans were good. My beef was good. Service was not good. Placed our order, waiter left, we decided we wanted to share a beer, didn't see the waiter until he brought out our food about 15 minutes later. We ordered the beer, took another 10 minutes, then never saw our waiter again. We sat for about 10 minutes, got up and asked the hostess to notify our waiter that we wanted our check. After another 5 minutes, he came out and asked were we ready for dessert. We said no, just the check. Maybe this waiter was new and didn't have all the training he should have had. Better places in Las Cruces/Mesilla.

This place seriously lacks in leadership. It is very rare that I give a place a ONE star and I will justify this rating. We walked in and were greeted immediately by a very friendly hostess, so the experience started out well. She helped us decide between the two restaurants they have there. We were seated and the waiter came over. He seemed very nice but very inexperienced. (Again I will explain). He introduced himself and took our drink orders. He came back to the table with the drinks and asked about appetizers. One person with us clearly stated right up front that she is ALLERGIC to Shrimp and RAW Tomatoes. There were 3 of us at the table so you know how many. We did order the Ceviche and coconut shrimp. He brought the appetizers to the table: my wife tried the ceviche and immediately stated that it had vinegar in it. We called the waiter over and my wife asked if there was vinegar. His first response was NO, when she asked if he was sure after a few minutes he finally stated he was not sure but would ask. My wife stated that there should be no reason other then to save money on using Lemon Juice for a place to use vinegar. He finally came back and said yes there was vinegar in it. She stated that she could not eat it and he hemmed and hawed for a few minutes, walked away and then came back and asked if he should take it away to which we said yes that it would not be eaten. He did take it away. We ordered food and again he was told about the allergies the one person in our party had. He later came back with the food and there was guacamole on her plate to which she asked, "is there tomatoes in the guacamole?" He stated yes and she again told him I cannot have tomatoes touching anything on my plate, I will get very sick. He looked very confused and she finally said, just give me a plate and I will get it off myself. There was NEVER an apology. The next issue, we had to ask for refills as they did not come automatic and our drinks sat empty for a long time. I do have to say the food was tasty and prepared as requested. The biggest issue as to why this place is getting the ONE STAR, is because at NO TIME did we ever see a Manager, at NO time was an apology ever given about any issue we had nor was there anyone seen in a leadership position. Like I said, our waiter was very nice, but seemed very confused and a little inexperienced. You would think that a place which charges over $30 for ages steaks would at least run like a place with a staff that strives to be the best. We did not expect anything for free and did not desire anything for free, however, we did expect someone in charge to take FOOD ALLERGIES seriously and show a little compassion and caring to the customer. None was shown here and it could be a communication issue between the staff and the leadership, however, that is not the staffs fault, its the leaderships fault for not setting the standards. This is not a place we will be giving a second chance to as there are several other choices in Las Cruces, NM to try before we run out of nice places to try.

We first had a hair in our appetizer. After some discussion with my husband, we decided that mistakes are human and went ahead and ordered entrees. Before digging in, we took a look over our meals, and my husband found a hair (appearing to be from a different head) in his refried beans. The manager seemed neither bothered nor surprised.

Peppers has a great location, although a little difficult to locate since there are signs that lead you to Double Eagle as well as Peppers. Turns out they share the same space. Or maybe they are the same restaurant with 2 menus. I don't know. But I was looking for Peppers and that's where I went. Even though I was also in the Double Eagle. So at Peppers I ordered peppers. Peppers filled with seafood and cheese and covered in a green chili sauce (which is technically a type of pepper as well). The seafood filling was cheesy, a bit spicy and peppered plentifully with chopped bits of shrimp and scallops. As you can see I had quite the Peppery dinner with my pepper sauce covered stuffed peppers at Peppers. The actual entree was seafood green chili rellenos but that doesn't sound as redundant does it? That doesn't sound as redundant does it?

Legitimately terrible. Granted, the ambiance and location are great. The hostess was really sweet. Too bad the food redefines "mediocre." Way way overpriced. The tortilla chips taste like they came out of a bag at the gas station; there's some weird flavored salt of some sort on them, almost like Fritos. Avoid the salmon dish like the plague. The fish isn't all that bad, but the chipotle sauce tastes, suspiciously, EXACTLY like Hunts canned tomato sauce. Rellenos were FINE, not great. Finally, the guacamole is TASTELESS. Overall one big expensive experience of BLAH.

The sign at the door claims, "The World's Largest Green Chile Cheeseburger". Weighing in at 1.25 lbs, plus a really, really big, dense bun, queso, green chiles, and pico de gallo, the claim may be accurate. For $22, its a toss up between splitting this with a friend or ordering two of the 1/2 lb "mini" green chile cheeseburgers ($10). Either way you go, you will be impressed with the quality of the beef. It's pure perfection and it alone is well worth the trip. In my view, it about quality, not quantity--but there's plenty of both in this, the BEST green chile burger! Served with onion, tomato, and pickle on the side. A cold Miller Lite and a Double Eagle green chile burger on a Sunday afternoon...doesn't get better than this.

This restaurant is a hidden gem in old town Mesilla, NM. Great food and atmosphere with authentic new-mex flavor! NM is known for their green chili - so i was bound to try everything that had green chili in it! Appetizers - MUST ORDER the green chili cheese wantons served with Pineapple-Jalapeno Salsa!! amazing! the cheese inside the wantons are melted perfectly and the combination with the salsa is a sensational pairing! Also a great appetizer was calamari - the Lightly crisped in seasoned masa, sprinkled with Chef's own Mesilla Blend spice mix. Main Entree - You must order the Mesilla's "Green Chile Cheeseburger" - 1/2 Pound Burger with Roasted Green Chile & Cheese. NM is known for their green chili so you cannot go through NM w/o trying this! the burger was cooked perfectly and you can taste the good quality meat. Also a great pick was the Seafood Stuffed Chile Rellenos stuffed with chopped shrimp, scallops and white fish, with Mesilla Valley's Hatch Green Chile sauce drizzled on top. This dish was a bit spicy but i loved it! To top off the amazing food and ambiance - this place accepts restaurant.com gc! I applied a $25gc (which i got for $2) to the bill and this dinner (2 appetizers + 2 entrees) came out to just under $25 including a 18% tip!! Be sure to catch an authentic new mexican dinner here!

This restaurant is a bit hard to find. But I finally realized it shares the same building as the Double Eagle in Mesilla. Peppers is the less- formal area. I had the seafood rellenos, and my wife had their traditional rellenos. They were full of flavor, and the green chiles were outstanding. This was some of the best New Mexican food I've had in a long time. Also, the service was quite good, and their wine list is great.

This is the only restaurant my wife has eaten at three days in a row. We both love the wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and delicious food. I would have given it a 5 star rating except that I was mildly disappointed in my dinner the last time we stopped there. It might be a case of too much anticipation as we actually plan our trips to the Southwest so that we can stop at Peppers at some point.

Tasty Mexican food a little different from what you might find elsewhere. I had the fish rellenos and they were very good with a nice level of spiciness. The restaurant has great ambience. It's kind of like a greenhouse as it has a glass roof, lots of plants and a fountain. Service was friendly and efficient--I would definitely go back to try some more of their dishes.

It is rather unfortunate that a historical site like the double eagle (peppers) has such poor management. The restaurant is an ideal location to go about seeing the culture of the area. However, the management is lacking to say the least. We have had many engagements at this location and it unfortunately has lost every and any value that it once had. Jerry E. the manager is draining the value of the company with the poor capacity and management style he is currently instituting. My biggest complaint of the manager is the use of pejoratives and ad hominem fallacies I am a Hispanic individual and am quite upset at the use of language and tone of voice. Please do not support the poor management he blames his employees for all that he does wrong.

Three of us had dinner there to celebrate my wife's birthday. The service was fantastic (Thanks Bryant...!), but the food was a somewhat disappointing. Maybe our expectations were too high. I had the veggie enchiladas, and they were decent, but they were uninspired, AND they weren't rolled (am I picky? Yes, a bit). The other two had the burgers. They both said the green chile was flavorless and had NO bite (these guys are green chile savvy...). They did give my wife a free desert for her birthday, but it and the Caramel Apple pie were just barely better than "average"...

Great atmosphere. Beautiful bar. Food was very good, no complaints, with the exception of the nachos being on the weak side. Service was outstanding and our large party all enjoyed their meal.

Mom had the burger, which she said was seasoned to perfection. The burger patty itself looked great and it was huge; hanging over the bun. The fries were shoestring, and were just okay. I had the pecan pineapple chicken salad. This had a nice presentation with chicken salad sitting atop a carved out half pineapple and served on a bed of greens with fruit-cantalope, watermelon, honeydew, & pineapple. Also crackers. The chicken salad was good snacking atop a cracker. The salad was mixed with greens and iceberg, which was okay but a bit wilted. There was no dressing served with it. Overall it was tasty but not memorable. The decor was great and I recommend sitting by the fountain. The wait staff was very friendly. So all and all go here for the burgers.

This is a wonderful restaurant! Hard to classify it, calling it a Mexican food place does not do it justice as they have several varieties, I had a burger that was largely based on gyro/lamb meat with a lot of Mediterranean flavors, but we also had chips & salsa with it. We are occasional repeat customers, we get there every couple of months or so and try to take out of town visitors to it. It's easy to overlook at the sign hangs at the edge of the plaza, and it looks like you're entering the Double Nickle(?) restaurant, which is a VERY expensive steak house. Tell them you're there for Pepper's and you'll get into the much more affordable section.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
