Been coming here for years. Pretty good New Mexican fast food. Not the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. The fried tacos are a favorite. I've always felt that they're salsas are a bit subpar given that we're in the southwest. The red and the green are both underwhelming in flavor and heat. I feel they could really improve that. The burgers are surprisingly good though. I like that you can add double meat for not too much extra as I tend to eat quite a bit. There's nothing too special about the burgers, but they're well priced and they hit the spot. Give it a try. It won't be the best burritos or tacos you've ever had, but it's far from the worst.

How can you give this place anything other than 5 stars?!!! Great breakfast burritos! When you're sick the green chili posole is the absolute best and actually you don't have to be sick to eat it either Veggie tacos are highly recommended!!!

This place is a very solid choice for delicious "fast" Mexican food. I always make a point to come here at least once when I'm in town. Let me preface this by saying that I don't like chicken tacos... anywhere.... Besides here! They are absolutely incredible, and I'm salivating just thinking about them. They come with a heaping portion of guacamole too. You MUST order at least one when you come here just to witness the magic. The smothered chile relleno burrito is also very delicious but it consistently takes forever to our order to come out when I order it. It is pretty busy around lunch so I would recommend looking at the menu online and calling in the order if you choose to come around that time. Overall, this place is incredible. Seriously, get the chicken tacos.

This was a pretty good place for a breakfast burrito. We ordered 4 of them and it was about $25 which seems like a reasonable price. We also ordered a small menudo because I wanted to try it. I tried it twice and I didn't like it, although I'm sure it was very good as far as menudo goes. The breakfast burritos were excellent as well. One of ours was supposed to have sausage, though, and it didn't, and mine had a crunchy bite because there was a bit of egg shell. Not a big deal. It was pretty busy for breakfast and I would say the food took about 15-20 minutes. It has a cute little ambiance with comfortable chairs and it is very clean. I liked it.

After finding out that El Rigoberto's is closed on Sundays, I decided to try out the other main Mexican restaurant in Los Alamos, El Parasol. My first impression after walking in was that te atmosphere is quite nice - with nice decor and ample seating. I came at around 1:00, and it was quite lively inside. I decided to get a smothered chicharron (pork rinds) burrito with Christmas chile for $8.25. Upon opening the box, I found a good amount of food inside. The taste however, was pretty average. What I've discovered about New Mexican food is that most dishes are a little blander than average, which allows for the green and/or red chile flavor to shine through. As a huge chile fan, I'm perfectly OK with this but it means the chile makes or breaks the food. In this case, the chile was a little bland, so what I mostly tasted was the shredded cheese on top. The pork rinds inside were OK, but not anything to write home about. If you're looking for a quick meal, there's nothing wrong with El Parasol. But if it's before 1pm, go to Chile Works for the best burrito in town.

2 really good meals #1 Menudo with green chiles yummy #2 Breakfast burrito with sausage and green chiles, light on the sausage and great flavor. Tables are not individual but instead long banquet tables. The Horchata was excellent as well.

Tons of seating inside and quick service. You order at the counter and wait for your number to be called. I always get the ground beef tacos with shredded cheese and lettuce (~$2.50 each). Usually 3 tacos fill me up. It is much better than your typical fast food joint. The shell is crispy and the beef flavorful. I recommend trying the horchata ($2) too. It's very refreshing and sweet. Will be back here again as one of my go to lunch spots in Los Alamos.

Los Alamos may be the sleepiest town I have traveled to yet. El Parasol is the local Tex-Mex chain and was the perfect place to try green chile and eat lunch after a series of flights from Knoxville, TN. My chicken burrito was very flavorful, but you have to get it with all the stuff on top. By stuff I mean cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and of course the green chile New Mexico is known for. Apparently, everything here closes very early, so don't be alarmed if you see stacked chairs and people sweeping by 3:00. They are open until 7, but don't have the traffic. I'm glad I could stop through...

I do not understand why this restaurant is getting such good reviews. For New Mexico this food just did not make the grade in our book. We have had so many better meals, this one was really disappointing even though a local recommended it over other options in the area. I had also read about it in a couple of foodie books on Santa Fe and Albuquerque. I got the crispy chicken taco, a tamale, and a bag of chips. I do not know what they are doing to their corn tortillas back in the kitchen but both the taco shell and the chips seamed liked they had been left out in my pantry back home for a month. They were hard, overcooked or stale, but they just did not taste good. The chicken was ok but I could not taste the guacamole and all the rest was just lettuce. The tamale was better, but again I have had much better along my travels in New Mexico. I would just warn others that if you have already had some great Mexican food, you might be disappointed in what you get here. It is better than going to Taco Bell, but it has a lot of room for growth. I am surprised that it is a chain throughout Northern New Mexico.

Poor food. The $7 plus dollar tacos were no bigger than Taco Bell. The rice was soaked in brown sauce, pepper and tasted terrible. The calabicita burrito was better, but was runny with water. We do not recommend this restaurant. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

I was being shown around by my girlfriend who grew up in Los Alamos, and we went here for breakfast one cold morning. Decor/Atmosphere: 4/5 Bright, sunny decor. A large menu is clearly visible to the side of the counter so you can decide what you want as you wait in line. Long wooden tables provide most of the seating, but there are a few 4-6 person tables along the walls. Service: 4/5 Just walk up and order at the counter, then sit around and wait for your food to come out. The girl who took our order was nice and got us through the line really quickly. Food: 4.5/5 Had the chorizo breakfast burrito, with green and red chile. Really good stuff, just what I needed on a freezing cold morning before a big day of exploring LA and the surrounding area. I can only compare New Mexico breakfast burritos to another one I had from Chili Works. I'd say the biggest difference was the potatoes (better at Parasol, not as mushy and overflowing). I personally couldn't tell any other differences, which just means it was a damn good breakfast burrito. Not from around here, so I unfortunately won't be a regular. But I'd definitely come back again and again.

Came here with fellow Yelper Amanda H. after a rather wild night down at Buffalo Thunder in Santa Fe. Not having our best morning, we postponed eating lunch until about 1:00 when we got back into Los Alamos-- we came in as ravenous as a pack of starving coyotes (NM animal reference = 1 bonus point). Not used to northern NM food, I was extremely happy with my meal. It took a little while to get it, but it was WELLLL worth it! Single chicken taco ($2.30): A downright amazing deal for such a delicious taco. Plenty of chicken with a smooth guacamole lining the top. Definitely coming back for this one! Chile Relleno Burrito ($5.75 + $1.95 smothering): Made to order, the relleno was so fresh. I'm typically a green chile fiend and rarely order red, but I got Christmas per Amanda's suggestion. Three words: Nom nom nom. If I'm ever up north again, you bet I'll be here again!

Acceptable, cheap (by Los Alamos standards at least) New Mexican food. Decent breakfast burritos, some of the other stuff is OK, some is mediocre.. They have biscochitos (distinctively New Mexican cookies..) Those are a decent dessert option. Overall I prefer Chili Works for New Mexican and if you want real Mexican food go to Mi Casita. However, unlike Chili Works, this joint has a large and clean indoor seating area, with heat ( a useful feature in the sometimes 6 month long Los Alamos winters).. One orders at the counter and picks up ones food there also. Service is pretty fast. If you like New Mexican style burritos, you can probably alternate between here and Chile Works so you don't get bored.. Well, if you have recently moved to Los Alamos or you work there, you likely WILL get bored with many aspects of life..

Good, solid New Mexican food. Try the Pork and Guacamole Burrito (it's friggin' great) or the Carne Adovada burrito ( this place serves some of the best Carne Adovada in NM)! The atmosphere here is fair at best though!

Not the best New Mexican food by a long shot, but better than average for Los Alamos. The good - They're breakfast burritos are the best I've found in town. They're flavourful even with or without meat and reasonably priced. The tacos are greasy but tasty. Their burgers are also the best I've had in town, especially with green chili and cheese. When they have them (only occasionally, on special), their chicken enchiladas are good. My favorite is there vegetarian lunch burrito: Potatoes, beans, brocolli, cheese, guacamole, lettuce, tomato and your choice of chili, but it appears that they've removed it from the menu. You can probably still order it anyway. The bad- The meat burritos tend to be a mass of meat and nothing else. Not very appetizing as far as I'm concerned. The cookies at the counter are awful.

Affordable, good, simple New Mexican food. 3 1/2-inch biscochito cookies next to the cash register, buttery with a hint of anise just like Abuela makes. Fountain drinks, horchata (a traditional Mexican beverage served cold, made with rice and cinnamon), very good tacos and burritos, both vegetarian and with meat. Very good red or green chile and salsa and house-made chips. It's like fast food, only much tastier, and portions are generous. I've always experienced super-friendly and quick service here. The atmosphere is kind of divey; it's clean inside but very casual. Your food comes wrapped in foil and waxed paper even if you're dining in. There are large tables good for groups. It's a kid-friendly place, and you can order picky eaters a cheese quesadilla -- that's a flour tortilla with melted cheese. Doesn't get much simpler.

Are you freakin' kidding me? since when is it legal to put crack in tacos? I can say hands down that this place has the best tacos I have ever eaten (top 10 best things I've ever eaten)! I usually can't decide if I like the shredded beef or chicken/guacamole tacos better so I get 2 of each, with a good dose of their amazing red salsa. I've eaten at el parasol about a dozen times now, but the only other items on their menus I've tried were their great tamales (xmas please), and their chicharon buritto which I thought was pretty gross and I threw away about half of it. If only they also served thirst-quenching horchatas...

It had been 3 years since I have been back to my hometown of Los Alamos, and I was in town visiting the folks during the holiday break. Since I grew up in Los Alamos with fond memories of standing in line outside of Chili Works on freezing-ass winter mornings for a breakfast burrito, I was psyched to finally get my Chili Works breakfast burrito fix. BUT ALAS!!! Chili Works was closed for the holiday break! WTF? Luckily, El Parasol was open and serving breakfast. I ordered what I would've ordered at Chili Works: sausage, green, no cheese. While I wasn't blown away by the burrito, it was a pretty decent substitute for Chili Works. (Although, local sources say that Chili Works has been steadily going down hill since my high school days, so perhaps the comparison to Chili Works is moot.) The prices are reasonable, the portions were generous, and our orders came out promptly. All in all, I'd return to El Parasol when I'm back in town. Hey, it's Los Alamos and there isn't much to choose from!

Mexican restaurant that serves burritos and tacos at a very reasonable price compared to all the other locations around Los Alamos. Unfortunately, the Mexican food here is not the best I've tasted compared to what's available in California. Orders: 1) Carne Adovado ($5): pork with red chilli burrito 2) Chille releno burrito ($5): chilli pepper filled with meat wrapped in a flour tortilla 3) Quesadilla ($5): tastes like Del Taco

I am sorry, but not the best Mexican food by any stretch of the imagination. Also the man working up front scoffed at me when I asked if I could have my chips before the rest of the meal. I did not appreciate the attitude as I was starving and just wanted something to munch on, sheesh!

This place is as much a local phenomenon as it is a restaurant. It is absolutely packed at lunch time. The other reviewer, Jessy B, hit the nail on the head: cheap and tasty, and probably best to eat at the park since the atmosphere in here is little more than a cafeteria. But overall, I'm a fan.

If you find yourself visiting Los Alamos (probably not worth the visit), have lunch here. cheap and tasty eats - go up to the counter and order the burrito, take it over to the park across the street and enjoy the picnic bench while watching the swans and ducks.

This place has really good breakfast burritos. I'd say they're a little tamer than Chili Works, so go here if you don't like really hot chili sauce. Just beware the lunchtime crowds, as it's probably best to avoid this place during lunchtime.
