A find that is off the beaten track. La Ventana is a welcome dinner destination in a small town. The fillet was cooked to perfection in the bank potato was hot and steamy and loaded with everything. The steam broccoli, which I added, was wonderful as well. I sat at the bar and carried a wonderful conversation on with Terry the bartender who was exceptional and giving spot on service. Whenever you're in New Mexico due West from Albuquerque stop in and enjoy a wonderful steak and the scenery as well as the hiking here in grants New Mexico.

Based on Yelp reviews, La Ventana Steakhouse was one of the better places to eat in Grants, NM. My husband and I went there at 4:00 on Friday. The atmosphere was darkish, had nice table linens, was dated but clean. The waitstaff were friendly and made us feel welcome. Our drinks were served immediately along with warmed tortilla chips (hot, crisp, and light) along with some of the best salsa I've ever had. My husband and I decided to split an order of fajitas. We couldn't make up our minds about chicken or beef so the waitress said we could have both. Our food came in good time. The flour tortillas were perfect. The fajitas were served with sour cream, guacamole, salsa, and pinto beans. I used all the sides on my beef fajita. It...was...so...good! The chicken was almost as good, but the beef was so flavorful and tender - I think it was actually tenderized or cube steak. I liked La Ventana so well that I wanted to try it again the next day. By the time we were finished with our meal, the restaurant was almost filled by what looked like mostly locals - it must be a Grants favorite. Our time in Grants was short and I didn't have the opportunity to go back the next day, We don't get to Grants often, I hope it's still there if we ever make it back.

This was a nice find. Obviously popular with locals, although it was a little pricey, the food and service was excellent. Trying to eat healthy, I had the soft grilled chicken tacos, and they were delicious. The chicken was moist and tender, and everything was flavorful. My spouse had a club sandwich, which he described as very well made. The servers were very professional and attentive.

Super nice people, great service and one of the best filet mignon I've had in a long time... perfectly cooked. I'm guessing the atmosphere for Grants is upscale. Oh and they have a New Mexico beer on tap called Alien Ale that is really tasty.

Dark, dimly lit, almost a 60s feel if it were not for the 4 flat screen TVs, Rib eye was good, French fries soggy ( even though I asked for them to be crispy), dinner rolls light and crisp, salad seemed to be out of a bag . But it IS Grants NM, so all in all it's not bad. Just not great. Except the beer . The 23 oz glass of Beer is fantastic after a long day. Service is excellent. Nice mix of locals and travelers. Apple crunch dessert was underwhelming. Flat, undercooked, and overshadowed by the scoop of vanilla ice cream. For $5 I would have been better off stopping at Dairy Queen on the way back to the hotel. 2 beers, ribeye, and dessert for $40 without tip. I think that I will go somewhere else next time.

In any other town, I don't think I'd give this place 4 stars but for Grants.... it's not bad. Like the other review said it's about as classy as it gets. It was a little more expensive than I would have thought. Growing up in Southern California, I've eaten at my fair share of nice restaurants so for my Chicken Piccata to be $15, I thought it was a bit on the pricey side. The meal included a salad, which was a thin bed of lettuce with one slice bell pepper-- no frills. The have a full bar which is a plus. My husband had the spicy shrimp pasta dish, he said he liked it. All in all, this is the best you'll get in Grants so I would recommend it.

I ordered the steak and enchiladas. The steak was cooked perfectly. Well seasoned and juicy. The enchiladas were good, but not as good as I was expecting. Didn't taste much different than a generic one back home in NY. I will definitely come back here for more steak, but I will go with a different side. The prices are very reasonable ($40 for two, no drinks, before tip). P.s. Be sure to try the chips and salsa. Excellent salsa.

I worked in Grants for one month recently and this ended up being the only place we ate, as everywhere else in town was just terrible. The food is great, has a couple of vegetarian dishes, a variety of beer and friendly service. The place was always full, which I think shows what the locals think of it, as every other restaurant we tried was empty and for good reason.

Traveling from Florida to San Diego this was our favorite stop so far. The food was absolutely amazing for both a Tennessee and Navy boy we also got to sit at the bar and talk with the owner who was a really nice man. We wish we could go back

I know this restaurant very well. I've had just about everything more than once. Recommend: Soups Their steak and cheese enchiladas are awesome and well priced. Fillet Mignon is excellent. If you're eating for lunch get the Southwest Turkey sandwich. It's got green chile and Avocado, awesome. Well priced. Apple crisp for desert. Never had the lobster but heard it's amazing. Heard the Lamb is good too, but that's for the heartless.

Surprisingly good food, considering it's in Grants. I'll admit I don't know too much about Grants, but after driving around town a little and seeing the large amounts of closed businesses and abandoned stores, I was thinking it might be KFC, pizza, or Denny's tonight. La Ventana was refreshingly good and nourishing, especially after a day walking around the Acoma Pueblo. The meats were tasty and even the rolls were a bit different. La Ventana is set back a little from the main road. There is an O'Reilly Auto Parts and Beall's which are easier to spot. Turn into their parking and lot and go back.

Very nice "steakhouse" that is relatively upscale for Grants. Friendly service and a full bar including some local beers. The menu is pretty varied with both traditional dishes and NM specialties. I had the steak with cheese enchiladas which was just fine. The green and red chile on the enchiladas was tasty but not particularly hot. OTOH the salsa served with chips at the beginning of the meal was pretty hot.

Atmosphere was very pleasant. We ordered a cheeseburger and Salmon....both were cooked well and the patty seemed made from scratch. The service was very professional and if we ever go back to Grants we will visit this place again!

Great atmosphere! I was part of a large party that dined here after a wedding rehearsal. Dinner was prix fixe, so we did not get to see nor order from the regular menu. The chicken I ordered was cooked perfectly and was very juicy. The salmon and steak the others ordered at my table also looked very appetizing. I would definitely eat here again next time I am in Grants.

Raquel runs an tight, professional and welcoming lunchtime operation. She is a true gem. Food is very good. Soups are excellent.

Pretty good beer selection except that they are always out of IPAs. Service isn't fantastic and sometimes servers and hosts are downright rude. It's a good restaurant compared to everything else in Grants.

I wrote a review after stopping there on 4/19/11. My review is listed under La Ventana Steakhouse (one word). Please check out my review under that name. This place is awesome!!

Very, very good (especially for what there is in Grants). Their homemade guac was fantastic! Awesome enchiladas! Chips and salsa was great too! The service was good and the prices were very reasonable. Would have gone back if we had stayed longer!

At the recommendation of the hotel desk clerk we tried La Ventana. Earlier in the day I had scoped out the town and to be honest it was looking like KFC or MCD was our only viable choices. Regardless, we tried La Ventana. What a delight! Because we didn't have reservations we had to sit at the bar which is always my first choice anyway. The service was wonderful as was the food. We both chose Tex-Mex but the steaks were wonderful as well. The bar was very well stocked with my wife's favorite wine at the lowest price I'd ever seen. We both ate, had two glasses of wine and two beers and spent only $50, including tax! This is a must stop for anyone spending the night in Grants or perhaps even passing through.

Ordered ground sirloin. First, under done then there was so much grissle in it, didn't even eat half. The other person ordered BBQ shrimp with veggies on pene in white wine sauce. No flavor whatsoever. Know Grants is very small, however for $18..00 for the shrimp dish, even in a small town is quite pricey. Wait staff was nice.

This is as close to classy as you get in Grants. Pros: good service, decent selection for carnivores, excellent chips and salsa. Cons: I wanted my prime rib to be... better for $19 in a small town. There was a microwave in its recent past. I know, I know, but still. The food (also fries, salad, mushrooms, horseradish) was fresh. It arrived in decent time and the staff was professionally pleasant, but unobtrusive - a combination I had not been experiencing in NM to this point (or much afterward). I will definitely eat here again the next time I find myself in Grants - I just might not get prime rib.
