Excellent burgers! Very flavorful and you can choose from 1/4, 1/2 or one pound patties with choice of cheese. The fixings are on the side, so you can add to your liking. The fries were crispy and quite tasty. The kids selection is good and they are more than generous with the portions. I was concerned when I saw the drinks offered only one refill (after a long drive), but they are huge and you only need a refill, if that. Staff is friendly and courteous. A nice stop if you're passing through and easy to access off the freeway. We stopped for lunch on the way and coming back from our destination. Great place for a great bite to eat.

Excellent food! It was Sunday and the place was busy, busy! I had a burger and I loved it. Service was excellent and the food came quickly. My husband had a breakfast burrito which he liked too. Will be back again when we pass through.

This is a great example of a local diner with excellent food. Don't let the overgrown shrubs and dilapidated exterior fool you. This is not fine dining but we enjoyed the menu of traditional American dishes and Mexican. The salsa was probably the best I've ever had. Even the side items of the rice and beans were different and very tasty. Interior was dated, but clean.

Stopped here after our Enchanted Forest ride. Burger is a good value, but the processed cheese is not a great add. Buffalo wings come breaded and fried with two dipping sauces. The dinner salad was a bunch of iceberg lettuce, some dried up carrots and gelatinous Italian dressing. The fries are frozen and green chile is subpar. The meat omelette and home fries were nothing to write home about, but a great value and edible. We can check this place off the list.

French toast is amazing! Also had the huevos rancheros and a smothered green chili omelette. The green chili sauce is spicy and very flavorful. Very quick and friendly service. Would stop in again next time we are in the area!

A perfect example of "don't judge a book by it's cover" restaurant. Good food. Good people. And always kept my water glass full. I had the B&O sandwich which is fried chicken breast sandwich with your choice of cheese and guacamole. To my surprise the bun was toasted in a Texas style which I love. I also had the onion rings which were beer battered style and taters. The potato salad my wife had was also good. I would go there again if I ever find my self driving through New Mexico.

Taco came with ground beef and cheese but no lettuce or tomato and tasted less than average. However, the chile relleno was one of the best we have ever had (and we eat them a lot)! The tamale was great as well but the shining star was the relleno. The prices were reasonable, service was good and restaurant was clean. I will eat here again.

I don't understand the 5 star ratings! The food is edible, especially if you like mashed potatoes from a box, and green beans from a can!

This place is a little tired and run down looking, but the food was very good. I had the huevos rancheros with the green sauce and loved it. Great little Route 66 diner to visit if you're traveling the "Mother Road"!

The Railway Cafe is a small, family owned restaurant that sits on the old Route 66 in Gallup. It's has an extensive menu and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The selections are traditional American fare with burgers (1 lb, 1/2 lb, and 1/2 lb), burritos and practically anything you want. I had the sirloin steak ($12.99) with baked potato, green beans, side salad and Texas toast. I added 4 jumbo shrimp for $2 more. The potions were large enough to where I couldn't finish. The only complaint is the meat was dry and a little over-cooked, but that is not a huge crime. I ordered cheese sticks ($6) which came with ranch. They do not have marinara sauce, which was disappointing. The restaurant seems to be popular with Native Americans in the area (you are in Navajo country). Twice people came by our table offering to sell Indian jewelry. Some might find that charming, others off-putting. All in all, a pleasant dining experience along America's old highway.

See the check in post. Amazing food, great service. Bacon is delicious. Burrito was a little spicy but that was great for me.

Tried this diner after driving by, looking for a place to grab a bite. Other restaurants had packed parking lots. So we turned around and went back. So glad we did! What a great cafe. My husband had huevos ranchos and I had a burger. They were as good as the best we have had. Ordered my burger med rare, perfect. Tasty food, great service, comfortable atmosphere, clean. Will definitely be back next time we're passing through.

I don't live in Gallup but I do spend half the year here through my work so finding satisfactory dining is sort of a quest I'm on. The Railway Cafe became my first attempt at a breakfast stop. Inside the restaurant is clean and brightly lit. My wife is highly allergic to mold so I check for this any time I enter a building for the first time and I found no reason to keep her from coming in. They have a fair selection of omelettes and I had no trouble choosing one that sounded really good - the Santa Fe. It did not disappoint. I'm now on my third visit here, having had breakfast here with my wife for visit number 2. She thought it was fine, had no adverse reactions to the building aside from them cleaning nearby tables with a diluted bleach mix. Of course, this is most restaurants but I asked our waitress to hold off until we left and she cheerfully obliged. Anyway, I've had the Santa Fe omelette twice and it was consistently good. I'm now trying "Dad's" omelette (bacon, cheese, & green chile) and the same high quality is noted. The chile heats up the back of the throat, clears the sinuses, and probably pisses off my parasite but this omelette is a true gem. Other things worth noting: while not as frequently as Earl's, you do still get the locals selling 'stuff' at your table while you are trying to eat. I, personally, do not appreciate this but if you are dining along 66 in Gallup, it is unavoidable. -Sugar shakers!! I LOVE sugar shakers! Nothing worse than ordering iced tea and then having to tear open 7 of those stupid little packets. This place rocks the shakers which, to me, is proper form in a diner. The bacon in my omelet was thick, everything reliably cooked properly, good coffee, clean house and a friendly staff. I've had breakfast at two other places as of this writing and those were just lousy by comparison. Still, the Railway Cafe is just a diner so it would be silly to drop 5 stars on it but if the Railway were competing in a class of diners only, I would do the 5.

On our way out of town, we made a stop here for lunch. Blink and you might miss it. It is located close to Papa Johns. I ordered the special of the day. The Roadrunner burger. Wow, it was delicious! The serving size was pretty decent for the price of $7.50. The green chile was yummy. Others around the table had the chicken stuff sopapilla and it was huge. It came smothered in red or green chile, cheese, and topped off with guacamole. Two sides included rice and beans. While we waited for our food, chips and salsa were brought to the table. Service was good, one waitress was extremely nice. The other however, seemed frustrated when we asked to combine two tickets and pay for it all. Normally, they get upset if you break down the bill not put them together. Our overall experience left us craving more and talking about this being our best restaurant meal through out our short visit. When we go back to visit family in the area, this is definitely a place we will eat at again!

Clean and quick. Great food, generous portions. Cute train decor to entertain the little 'uns. Down-home diner fare. Breakfast served all day, which is fortunate for vegetarians, because there aren't a ton of other menu options for us besides eggs and french toast. (Gallup in general is not the most veg-friendly town in America.) Definitely recommend, whatever your diet.

Wow. The Union Pacific burrito with green chili sauce is AMAZING. I had my reservations but am glad I made this my breakfast stop. If I am ever coming back through Gallup I will be sure to stop here.

Good meal, local diner fare. I had vegetable beef soup, and on a cold day, it was excellent.
