Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I live outside of Gallup (Yay) about 15 miles, and always stop here to eat when I can. Carne Adovada is the best I've had in any local restaurant! Even though spicy food does not treat me well, the taste of the Carne is so good, I can't deny myself! Highly recommended!

I should have been worried when we walked in to a place with decor reminiscent of a Chinese restaurant and a menu that served a "specialty" from about every continent but China. Upon perusing the menu, one would believe that the cook decided sesame chicken wasn't going to take in Gallup so he would start serving a "Ching's chimichanga." Me and my friend ordered carne Adovada. The red chili was nice and thick with some bold heat and flavor. That's about where the Mexican bandwagon wheels fell off. My friends first words about the dish was something along the lines of "bleeeeeehhhhh" with a wrinkled nose. I think we each got 10 nibletts of some boiled - not even close to simmered - rubbery pork. No flavor. Garnished with the typical iceberg lettuce and mediocre tomatoes. Chips and salsa served with the meal, but the chips were from a bag. Salsa was fresco style with good heat. My other partner ordered a tuna melt. He said it should be hard to mess up a tuna melt, but he was glad he didn't bother to take a picture for his own review. Next time I am dining on this part of town, I think I will move on to something else.

I'm not quite sure how this restaurant is able to be labeled as 'Mexican'; the menu had food from every continent, very little of which was anything remotely similar to mexican or new mexican style. I ordered a margarita (which was a shade of yellow-green that may have glowed in the dark), the nachos were cold, and the red chili sauce was bland and tasted like it was just poured out of a can. I was expecting a home cooked flavor and was very disappointed. I feel bad leaving a 2 star rating because the service was great, but the food was terrible.

The food here isn't that cheap........but my impression is food in the Southwest generally isn't that cheap. I ordered the Reuben with fries b/c it was cheaper than the Mexican food. It was quite good. Not all time or mind-blowing, but hot & tasty and the price was very fair. What stands out about Cocina De Dominguez is the service. I could just tell they take pride in their restaurant which is great. I really got a feel for life in Gallup. You won't find many tourists here I believe, since this is a little off the main highway. Mostly friendly locals who come in for good food and familiar faces. Nice restaurant and gives you a real feel for life in Gallup. Complimentary wi-fi access. Big bonus for single diners.

My family and I were heading back home from Oklahoma to California and found great reviews for Cocina De Dominguez in New Mexico. We were SOOOO pleased with their hospitality, the quality of food, the service; EVERYTHING was exceptional. There were 8 of us and we all rolled out of there completely stuffed and satisfied - even our younger kids (who can sometimes be finicky). The food is all fresh and "home made". One of my daughters said the fajitas were the BEST she has ever had. My other daughter was astonished at the size of the chicken breast in her sandwich and said it was delicious. All agreed it was in their top list of restaurants and all gave major thumbs up. It wasn't too salty either which is so rare in restaurants these days. The owners came up to us after we ordered and introduced themselves to our family and even brought over some fresh made guacamole. They made us feel so at home!

We often visit Cocina de Dominguez when in town on holiday. We usually hit up other establishments for stuffed sopapillas but after this visit I don't know if I'll find another stuffed sopapilla to beat the one here. The service was outstanding!!! Julie and the crew took excellent care of all 9 of us and we waited minimal time. The salsa was excellent! I ordered a mini stuffed sopapilla and it was perfect. The sopapilla was fluffy and filling. The meat was flavored to perfection along with the red chile it was smothered in. Others in our group had the Navajo taco, enchiladas, tacos, a steak smothered in chile, shrimp, quesadillas and the pork chop. Not a single plate was left unfinished! Thank you to Brian and his staff for making our dinner so perfect.

Have to say the food is truly the New Mexican food that us who grew up here appreciate. Red chile and carne are probably best in state!! For those passing through it would be worth the stop to get the most authentic, delicious experience that you can get in the state!!

Yelp? Am I at the wrong place? Based on reviews, we expected good food. What we got made me sad I stopped here. Waitress was friendly and the place is clean, but man, the food makes me wish I had eaten just about anywhere else. Seemed like store-bought and restaurant-warmed. Really disappointing.

Traveled here with girls Arizona Arsenal soccer team and loved it. Navajo tacos are a hit and had to take a pint of homemade salsa and guacamole to go. Very friendly service. Will definitely be back.

Very clean -Nice Dining area. Pricey. Meals starting at $12 Came on a Tuesday. Toastido Tuesday -99 cents for beans. Add meat for $1. Very good. Beans tasty. Red sauce on tamales was awful. Taste like it had soap in sauce

My boyfriend and I were craving Mexican and this got great reviews online so we decided to try it. We are food enthusiasts so I think we've become snobs or somewhat spoiled in the process. I only say this because we were disappointed with our dining experience. It wasn't so much the atmosphere because it seems people frequent the restaurant for the staff, but it was the food that was not that good. I went with the steak fajitas & my boyfriend chose the chicken burrito. His burrito looked gross but the chicken tasted ok. My steak was really chewy and was full of tendon. The rice wasn't awful but it wasn't great either. The tortillas are from a package so they were just ok too. I did however, like that they had a friendly staff, had the football games on the t.v.'s, and had cold beer. I don't think I would go again but I wish they would cut down their Italian/American/Mexican menu to focus on a few items. If you end up going, you should try a burger & fries, hopefully you have a better shot than we did.

We found this restaurant on Yelp and were so glad we did. We walked into an extremely clean nice restaurant, were greeted by a friendly staff, and received wonderful service from our waitress, Julie, as well as others. The owner Brian Dominguez introduced himself, and we could see how proud he was of his restaurant and the staff he had hired. Our dinner was delicious and was definitely a highlight of our 1800 mile journey across the Southwest.

This place is amazing. Great service. Best ground beef ever. One of the few Mexican places nearby with tecate. I got the combo platter with a beef taco and a tostado. Both were delish. Nice vibe inside.

I had a tamale drenched in New Mexico red chile and it was really good. They don't have a/c but when my dad commented about it the owner/manager? immediately brought a big fan and aimed it at our table. That was really nice. I enjoyed the chips and salsa as well. spicy and yummy. My aunt ordered sopapillas but she said they were not as she expected. I think she thought they would be fluffier, so she was a bit disappointed. My dad was also disappointed because there was not enough red chile on his enchilada so he didn't really get the flavor of it. The chile was pretty thick, which I like, and I just barely had enough on my last couple bites. We like to have enough to sop up with tortillas after. Nice place and nice workers, though our waitress was only okay. Not overly friendly, seemed really busy.

A life long gallup resident took me here. From the outside, looks humble, uninspired. The food is phenomenal! I got the Navajo taco. All the ingredients are fresh and the chile is hot, super clean, and full flavored. If you need a really good meal while driving through gallup, go here. Inexpensive, genuine, satisfying classic NM food.

Stopped in after reading other yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint! Red chili, salsa and guac were great and everything was very fresh. Friendly, fast service. Definitely recommend!

A couple of our favorite Gallup eateries have unfortunately gone downhill recently, so we've been looking out for alternatives for casual dining. On the recommendation of a friend, we decided to check out Cocina de Dominguez. It sits in a nondescript strip mall on the south end of town and is somewhat off the beaten path, occupying the space of the former Pal Joey's restaurant. The menu caters to a variety of tastes with traditional American fare (salads and sandwiches) offered alongside local New Mexican and Italian choices. There are nightly specials available (tacos on Monday, tostadas on Tuesday) and there is also a bar serving beer and wine on premises. The taco salad I had was generously portioned and served with fresh guacamole. I also enjoyed a rib eye and enchilada special. The 8 oz rib eye was a thin cut but flavorfully seasoned and nicely cooked, tender and just a little rare on the inside. The cheese enchiladas were tasty and accompanied with a delicious rendition of green chile that had a decent kick to it. Chile rellenos, a cheese stuffed Poblano pepper battered and deep-fried, is homemade and excellent. Many local restaurants don't make their own rellenos and buy them from a food service vendor or elsewhere so it's nice to get rellenos made by the chef. My dining companion had a very large stuffed sopapilla and he said it is the best in Gallup. Service is friendly and attentive. We recognized our waitress as having worked at the well-known El Rancho Hotel's dining room for many years but now she is here taking good care of the patrons. The food has been excellent on all of our visits and I'm looking forward to checking out the Friday prime rib special. If you're looking for a good solid meal, I think Cocina de Dominguez is worth a try.

We thought we'd try this based on Yelp reviews and we were glad we did! The prices were good and the food was delicious. We met the woner while we were there and he said it's all home made...including chili rellenos! The beans and rice are normally not that great in a Mexican restaurant, but we ate every morsel here! The restaurant is located in a strip mall so it's easy to miss...keep an eye out for it. Beers were a few dollars...good deal!

In spite of a huge party the waitresses got my food out quickly I had the stuffed sopapillas it was awesome Even the rice was more than just standard Spanish rice. It had its own flavor which stood on its own. I wish this place was in my neighborhood.

The only edible guacamole in Gallup. Vegetarian red and green. Our go-to when we want Mexican, not New Mexican. Good rice. Good service. Not perfect, but never bad.

This is my friend's establishment, the carne adovada is so darn good! It comes from his mother's recipe if I'm remembering correctly, and the establishment is hugely popular on taco day, to the point where they sometimes close early because they ran out (or so I am told). Every Mexican dish I have had here is very good, however that being said, I think I got addicted to one dish from early on, so I don't really venture too much outside that one dish. It is off the beaten tourist track (nowhere near route 66) and so for those passing through it could be a stretch to find.
