Great food. I was here last week with my uncle and we stopped by to get food to go. It was a delicious buffet.

Huge portions and friendly service. A definite must when passing through Gallup. Not the typical gas station restaurant, but well worth the time spent off the road. The Nan is awesome!

My husband and I drove to Gallup from LA. We were surprised to find delicious, authentic Indian food. We ordered everything spicy and they did not skimp on the spice or flavor. Everything was so good! Comparable to Indian food back home! Delicious! Service was awesome. If we're ever back to these parts we will definitely stop here again.

Fantastic authentic Indian Cuisine, very relaxed atmosphere, I've been coming here for 6 months and never been let down by the food or service

Being a guru on Indian cuisine, I'll say that Bombay pumps out some great authentic Indian food. As with any restaurant, it'd be a better idea to order from the menu rather than take from the buffet in the interest of freshness. (Common sense) The tikka masala, lamb saag, & samosas were the bomb diggity. The owner is usually kind enough to offer chai tea while you wait for your food. Also there is a big screen TV on the diner counter top showing the latest bollywood films. So it's a small dose of Indian familial experience while waiting for or eating your food.

The food is good and fresh they are helpful and courteous friendly $10.00 good buffet

A friend brought me here and I've never really tried Indian food and it was really good it was a buffet so I was able to try some of everything. The set up was a bit odd we walked in and the young guy looked at us like we had three heads we had to ask him if we sit anywhere. He dropped off water and we never saw him again until he filled up my water when we were all done ready to go. The food is fabulous and the older gentlemen that owns the plan was super sweet!!! I'll definitely return

This place was discovered purely by chance and I'm glad I ended up finding it. The food was good. Remember this restaurant is a part of a gas station and is visited by a number of truckers. The food though will beat any fine dining restaurant taste. I went with a friend and we ordered Daal fry and not makhani and Baingan Bhartha (Eggplant veggie). Service was good and the owner was friendly. The good thing was when I met a friend from New Mexico, he mentioned the same place and how good was their food.

We had a very satisfying lunch--buffet style. Curried chicken, 'butter' chicken, Beef meatballs, Garbanzo Beans, rice, and last but certainly not least, a deliciously spiced spinach dish. Each dish was authentically and individually spiced. The owner stated that the dishes came from the Punjabi Region of India. I must say that this food was very savory and satisfying. I felt filled much sooner that I expected, and I chose my servings sparingly. My husband also received fresh naan-two kinds. One was plain, the other with parsley and thinly sliced scallions, with butter. Both were served piping hot, aromatic, and delicious The restaurant is right off the highway. It was mid-afternoon when we were there. Three young men, all with East Indian accents, ate when we did. There was a wide screen TV playing a Bollywood feature (no subtitles). The environment was more than adequate, but surprisingly, had no Indian decor. Our servers were friendly, but their understanding of English was poor, and this discouraged conversation.

I make it a point to stop in here everytime I pass through the area. The food is simple but so flavorful. The service is quick and friendly. The people that work here don't speak spactacular english but they understand how to make a good meal and keep you coming back for more. On this visit I had the Lamb briyani, seasoned chunks of lamb cooked in curry mixed with basmati rice, bell pappers and onion. There was so much food I think I will have three meals just from the leftovers!!!

felt really good going to this restaurant because of all the great reviews (even though it's connected to a gas station) and because of all the pictures.. the food looked amazing... when we walk in its completely silent. no music... only 2 people talking across the room and you can hear everything they're saying. the waiter comes up to us and doesn't say anything. just looks at us like we were supposed to say something lol i just said "can we eat here..?" and he told us to sit down at the table. very authentic indian food but very steep prices. we ordered a small shrimp curry with naan and it was 18 bucks. didn't tip the waiter because he brought us veryyyyy dirty water glasses and wasn't very kind or accommodating at all. forgot about our naan, halfway into eating our meal. and just gestures at me that it will be out soon because he saw me looking around for him... it was just such a strange atmosphere and doesn't look very clean. i gave it three stars because the food is AMAZING. if you're going to eat from here, take it to go lol

Excellent food! Lunch buffet was actually cheap. The high prices must be dinner. Place is run down but good food. Very small buffet but they cover the basics of India cuisine.
(4)Matt C.
Amazing! You must eat here. Don't be afraid of the outside truck stop. This family makes the most authentic fresh delicious butter chicken I've ever had. This is one of those hole in the wall heavens that should be on Anthony bourdain or travel channel. This is way better than anything else in the area. If you aren't familiar with Indian food fare, just order "butter chicken" and you can't go wrong. Wow.

Love this food. Only $10 for buffet lunch. Not a huge selection, but food is delicious and does not give me heartburn. Butter chicken is my favorite over rice. The nam is good too. Decor needs updating, but the people are great to us. And theres a big screen with some kind of Bollywood always playing so its fun! It's across the street from the Loves Truck Stop, I-40, exit 16, Gallup, NM. :)
(5)Jonathan H.
Good food, good service. Lamb gosht is wonderful. We lived in south India for 2.5 years, this is remarkably authentic for the USA. Chicken saagwala and the masala chai are also worthwhile.
(4)Andrea M.
This place is an amazing find! The naan is perfect, we had garlic and regular. The chicken curries were awesome! If we ever come back through Gallup this is our stop!
(5)Brandon L.
We decided to fill up a gas and found this place. We had their lunch buffet for $10 Pro: Excellent food. Try their butter chicken. Service is little slow but attentive. Naan is just so good i miss it already Con: slow in refilling their food. Ask and they will refill it. You have to ask!!! I definitely want to come back.
(4)Joe A.
Hot (temperature) food always is a good place to start. This was not! The chicken was warm but the sauce was not. Basmati rice (left over from the buffet?) was cold. I requested that it be reheated and voila! It came back exactly the same. Barely warm! Geez, sixty seconds in the microwave would have done it. The Garlic naan was the only hot item , but it arrived too late as I had already eaten most of my lukewarm food. Service was scattered and not very attentive. 'Nuff said.
(1)Cringe S.
Passing through West Gallup back in October who would figure stopping for gas at a truck stop we would find the best Indian food that I can remember ever having. I hope i get to pass that way again.
(5)Chris R.
The restaurant uses lots of spices so there is a noticeable odor when u walk into the building, that being said the food was very good. The buffet is kinda spartan not much choice however its quite tasty. I mostly had the chicken curry i dare say its almost perfect very tender and just the right amount of heat. There is even fresh roti on the buffet and even rice pudding and yogurt for dessert. Now for the best part it was only 10 bucks for all you can eat
(5)Brian L.
I love the lunch buffet at this place. It's pretty much always the same selections but always really good. I have converted a few non-Indian food loving folks by taking them here. Service is ok, luckily it's a buffet.
(4)Paula D.
I haven't had Indian food this good since Los Angeles. We ordered the Makhani shrimp, chicken Biryani, and Naan. Absolutely delicious! We will be back. And yes, watch the pricing of the food when you get to the register. Other than that, the food was worth the few nickels and dimes he added on at the register. My taste buds were satisfied to the max.
(5)Marty L.
This place is an unexpected gem and a fascinating cultural experience. Did not expect to find good Indian food in Gallup, but this place beats out most Indian food in the Bay Area and LA. Yes, it's a truck stop, but looks can be deceiving. Both the food and the service were excellent.
(5)Clayton I.
First off, I gave this place 2 chances and both times went poorly. I'm in Gallup, NM for work and was thrilled to see they actually had an Indian restaurant in town. The food was bland, the meats and vegetables in the dishes are not fresh, but come from bulk frozen or canned packs. My second time there, was for the lunch buffet. It took 10 minutes to get a glass of water and some naan. There were beef meatballs on the buffet... so that's weird for an Indian place. The waitress made me uncomfortable by whispering in my ear before any other interaction, that she wants me to pay in cash because the manager keeps her tips when people pay with a card. When I told her "sorry, I don't carry cash." My service predictably vanished. Both experiences were weird and the food nowhere near justifies the price, even when the buffet is only $10.00. This is not real Indian food.
(1)Clayton C.
The food here is realllly good so why the 2 star review? They are shady with the pricing. We have eaten here many times and even though the service is not great and you don't always get exactly what you order, we still came back because the food is THAT GOOD! Well now I'm not sure I want to come back because they rip you off at the register. On a previous visit, food was more expensive than I thought it was when I ordered but didn't think much of it. This last visit, I took careful notice of the price for everything we ordered and sure enough, when we went to pay bill. Our drinks and entrees were now each $1-2 more. They just hope you don't remember the prices on the menu. Such a scam!
(2)David G.
great food. owners are nice and friendly prices are reasonable and they have a very extensive menu. what. more can you ask for?. dont let the location scare you away. I'm only in the area for a month but I'll definitely be back.
(4)James G.
I ate here late Friday night after driving cross country. I think it's worth a 5th star based on the scarcity of non-chain restaurants off I-40. As other reviewers have said, the staff is very friendly. I think this place is popular with Indian-American truckers as well as folks passing through. It looks like a small buffet is prepared for people arriving earlier in the day.

Went on Yelp recommendation. I'll talk about food at end (mostly tasty) but first I'll write of our experience. Unfortunately, we got there just minutes before the buffet was scheduled to close (4 pm on Sun). Waitress was sweet and accommodating but I definitely got the idea, from who I am guessing to be, the owner and the mgr, that they wanted to close it down. Hard to decide quickly on what you want when you don't know what's on the buffet, yet alone the menu, and the rest of your family has run off to find the rest room! So the waitress explained the buffet items and also happily showed me the menu when I asked. I had to ask price of buffet ($10 including naan). Quick survey of entrees in menu looked to be in $15 price range so we just went for the buffet. After we committed, mgr asked we how many orders of naan we wanted..."One?," he suggested. I told him all three of us were having buffet, so maybe two. Turns out the orders were big so one order of naan would have done it. Garlic naan would also have been nice but he didn't offer and I forget to ask. If he was looking to save money, though, why not start us with one and offer us more during the meal if we were running low? Also, as we served our plates and sat down, the mgr let me know that if we wanted more we should serve our 2nd plates right away. I tried to quickly sample so I could tell what I'd like seconds of. It is hard to factor in how full you'll be at end of meal and I could have really skipped seconds altogether! With the extra naan, we were uncomfortable with how much food we left behind. Didn't take it because we were just traveling thru and we wouldn't be home for hours. Last thing about the experience... we didn't get a paper bill. When it was time to pay, we were told to just tell the cashier what we ordered. It did turn out to be $30, as we expected. The food: naan, butter chicken (my favorite, white meat), chicken curry (a little runny and dark meat pieces), meat balls, veggies, spinach, rice, yogurt, chickpeas -(ran out), fresh lettuce, onions, yogurt, and sweet rice. Chicken curry was the only thing that I didn"t care for. We didn't get any condiments like chutney. I should have asked, but i was really thinking the whole restaurant was closing so we tried to wrap it up. Turns out the restaurant was not closing, as they seated several people who trickled in. The restaurant is attached to a gas station. Last place you'd expect to find any restaurat, yet alone an a Indian restaurant. The Bolly-wood movie quietly playing in background did add a little ambiance to the restaurant with such sparse decor. So, our whole meal was way too affected by the "closing of the buffet." Bottom line: the food was yummy but hospitality very lacking. There were only 7 customers there most of the time we were eating. With a little effort, we could have felt much more welcomed. Kudos to the waitress who truly tried to make us feel comfortable. However, I don't see any repeat visits in our future.

Nasty, old chicken, food is gone bad, a bad taste to it. Never will be back. Wont recommend this to anyone.

I'm not a fan of Indian food. I ate here a couple of times. I enjoyed the bread and meatballs, but I thought the price was rather high. However, I support this place because we need outsiders to come into town and open restaurants here. Not everyone lives their life around green chile.

A hidden gem in sn unepected location! I'll definitely be back when traveling through New Mexico! Best of all it was hand made to order!

Frequent visitors to or residents of Gallup, NM will know that there are plenty of places to eat in Gallup - if, of course, your idea of "places to eat" is 100 different restaurants each serving a variation of tortillas, eggs, cheese and chile. That, or the same crappy fast food joints serving up the same artery-clogging fare you can find anywhere else in the country. Don't believe me? The first eight or so pages on Yelp when you search for "Food" in Gallup are brimming with New Mexican/Mexican restaurants. One wonders how all these places are even financially viable. For a traveler sick and tired of New Mexican food, this place is like an breath of fresh air; first of all, it's the only Indian restaurant for probably 100+ miles in any direction. So you will find flavors here that simply don't exist anywhere else in that radius. The a la carte menu is a bit on the scanty side, and the lack of dal dishes surprised me - although I am sure if I asked they would serve it up. Prices are reasonable, about $15 for a large piece of garlic Naan, a huge portion of chicken masala, and basmati rice. The buffet seems like a better value. Service is a bit lacking, the proprietors and staff seem to be a bunch of older Indian guys and I was there right after they opened. They were friendly, though. The ambiance is...well, this is a shell of a restaurant in what was formerly a truck stop diner. So the decor is Indian, but not the kind of Indian that this restaurant is. It is clean but obviously not rocking the latest & greatest in interior decoration. Finally, a restaurant in Gallup where I don't have to worry about fending off drunk panhandlers in the parking lot, and shoo off people trying to sell me crappy jewelry and trinkets when all I want to do is eat (I never understood that about Earl's and that is why I no longer go there). I will be back.
(4)Sandeep Z.
Excellent food ... The place looks ok so don't assume ... probably the best food in town & better than any Los Angeles Tandoori / North Indian restaurant . Must try ... Don't miss this one"
(5)Michael P.
After not seeing food for 50 miles..... It is scary when u first walk in but after the slow service and limited choices set in .....u realize that it really is not that scary and the limited food is pretty good & I would go back
(3)Jeff C.
Whoa there, our five star review is based upon really excellent Indian (from India) food that we experienced on the night of Friday, March 1, 2013. This place is difficult to find even though my Windows phone got me to right out front. To get there go to the western-most Gallup exit and proceed west approximately 100-200 yards to the very first truck stop on the southern part of the highway. t is across the street from the thriving Love's Truck Stop. There is no signage for this restaurant and it is located in a failed truck stop restaurant with an early 1970s truck stop interior. When we went there we had to really look and there was only a vinyl sign that said now open along with a neon sign that said "open." We walked in and no one was there to greet us. Finally an older Indian gentleman came out and welcomed us. It seemed really sketchy, but we stayed, I was very skeptical. The food was wonderful. The garlic nan was perfect and comparable to any we have had in North America. The Basmati rice was cooked to perfection and we received a lot with our meal. I was unsure so I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, it was great. My girlfriend ordered a stew of eggplant, peas and onions which was exceptional. I told the guy he needs a BIG sign and he agreed. We will go back and we wish he had a franchise in Flagstaff. Did not try any alcohol, we were pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. We really enjoyed our meal. The more than ample leftovers were refrigerated and made an outstanding lunch the next day (today). Don't miss this hidden gem in Gallup. I also told the owner to put up flyers at local hospitals - they would really dig this food.

I love Indian food and this was an acceptable meal. I can't rave about it or complain about it. Only tried the chicken curry so perhaps other items on the menu are more exciting. I was impressed by the staff. Very friendly and helpful, offered to give me more rice if I needed it with no charge and they didn't charge me for my mango chutney. I left with a full belly and a nice feeling from all that worked there. They defiantly want and appreciate the business.
(3)ramesh s.
This is an amazing example of great cooking, pretty much the best food (outside of my other review of the Tamale Factor) anywhere within 100 miles. Paul the owner is a great guy too. This is some of the best Indian food I have had.
(5)Margery O.
This place was a wonderful find! My daughter and I had garlic naan, dahl makhani, masala chai--all delicious!
(5)Shane V.
I have been to many Indian restaurants over my lifetime, when I ate here I was wondering if I thought it was good because I had been away from civilization too long, or if it was actually good. Then I was off to the east coast with plenty of Indian food, and thus I had a fresh comparison. I came back to town and ate here, and realized it was very good good indeed! The establishment is new so there are some dishes you can't get yet. Other than the extremely slow service I can't complain, it's simply a great place for Indian food. I have urged the owner to move closer into town because right now it's in a truck stop with the idea of feeding the Indian truck drivers. But really they should focus on feeding the Gallupians. My friends and I have been here very often in the two months they have been open, and we have also told all the people we can about it. It's across from the TA truck stop in the old Gulf truck stop.
