This is home style cooking but not good. Had soup that was too thick. I was flavorful but too many potatoes. Pork chop was dry and over cooked . Not worth the trip.

I had pretty low expectations rolling through Farmington, but their patty melt & navajo tacos were delicious and the service was friendly. Sonya's gets the job done and us back on the road quickly and happy.

we walked into this place for dinner 8/22/12 around 6 pm. we felt a little out of place. this place is definitely a local mom/pop type of restaurant!!! there is nothing exciting about the ambiance and it pretty much describes farmington. even though the restaurant had about 12 tables occupied by locals everyone was really, really, really nice. with people waving & smiling kinda threw me off but it was a great feeling. the service was actually really good too. the server had no problem splitting our ticket 3 ways and did a good job meeting our needs. the food was the real surprised. everyone in our party was surprised too. i made the selection of the restaurant based on yelp reviews. a chicken dinner, biscuts & gravy, 1 french toast and rueben sandwich were all ordered. everyone enjoyed their meals and they gave their meals a 4 out of 5 stars. i ordered the rueben. although it was a little dry i loved the sandwich!!! if you want to experience the "farmington life" stop by sonya's and share a story or two and eat some food.

Great local flavor. Casual comfort food is what you'll find here! Staff was very responsive to my requested tweaks to my meal (slow carb - no starches, extra veggies, etc.). Friendly folks who enjoy their jobs. The food was really good. This is diner fare with HEART. If you're in Farmington, definitely give this place a try.

Good home cooking, friendly atmosphere and surprisingly reasonable prices. Mostly local friendly folks, several of whom struck up conversations with us. There aren't too many places to eat in Farmington, NM, but this is a good one.

Ate at Sonja's today for breakfast. Even though it was crowded we were served in good time. Omelets biscuits and gravy hashbrowns good. May not be best for younger customers. Seems geared towards an older crowd. But that did not affect us. Coffee was average. Service was very good and attentive.

Great homey casual atmosphere. Great breakfast food. Big portions. Family of 6 are for $33. Our waitress was incredibly attentive, courteous, and efficient!!

This place touches my love for small local family owned places. Mexican American menu, excellent value, chips and salsa, 3 of us out the door for under 30.00 on a sunday evening. Obviously a local favorite with families of all ages coming in. Easy access across from the Best Western.

This place has no RECENT reviews so I needed to fix that. We stopped for the night at the start of our third week of a 3-week road trip. Once checked in at the hotel we didn't want to move the bikes so we walked across the street to Sonya's and wow, what a treat it was. It is a nice, homey place with a friendly staff and a great menu of both American and Mexican/Southwest favorites. Their prices are not too steep, either. One good plus is that they serve all breakfast items even at dinner time. My wife and I both had huevos rancheros and they were some of the best anywhere. I wanted to stick around for an extra day to see what else they had that would be so great. It would be nice to have such a place near our home town but this will do for the road trip. Try 'em out!

It was good food, not great. Service was good. We loved nearby Anne's for breakfast though. :)

My family has been going there since they opened, I go there for "delicious" Navajo taco, not so much. Also supposed to come w chips and salsa so asked for extra salsa at $1.69 they gave me a small container and claimed it was the large one. I would hate to see the small one. NEVER AGAIN!!

We stopped here on a drive to Houston, Texas. We stopped because of the a recent review. When we walked in, the server was on a personal call and we thought that did not bode well. We were WRONG. I had the meatloaf and it was fantastic. Way better than Mimi's - if you've ever tried that - The chips and salsa good but not out of the park.
(4)Arlie B.
I was confused for a second upon entering the restaurant....but you just have to pick a table and sit... The salsa is superb: very fresh and spicy. Service was very quick and friendly. The 'Mexican Plate' did not wow me but I did enjoy the cheese and beans. Very affordable family atmosphere

There's not really any reason whatsoever to go to Farmington, NM, but if you do, you should hit up Sonya's. We randomly ended up here and didn't get settled into our hotel until almost 9pm. The hotel recommended Sonya's which was across the street and the only place in the vicinity that was still open. When we arrived they were about to close, but were really friendly and told us that they could make us anything we wanted. We said we would take it to go so that they could go home, but they assured us that it was no problem. We were the only customers in the place - I guess people eat earlier in NM than in the midwest, so we decided to take our stuff to go anyway. I ordered the fajitas, which were the special of the day. and the waiter/cashier/chef assured me that they were delicious - which they were - very fresh and tasty. If I ever end up in this town again, I'll definitely return to Sonya's.
(5)Katy W.
This is a decent true "local" place. We walked in after a business meeting and definitely realized we were the ones that were not like the others. All the local workers were there for lunch. I tried the Mexican plate that include an enchilada, tamale and taco with red and green chili sauce. It was good, not like San Diego Mexican but good New Mexican, and I really enjoyed their salsa. I was told that they are one of the few in the area that make their own. It had great flavor and a bit of spice. If you are looking for a good spot to stop while in Farmington, stop at Sonya's.
